In short
Christmas/party banter and two “helpful-ish advice” dilemmas: (1) a book club mutiny over sharing cabins with an exhausting woman (“Maud”) who insists on the main cabin; (2) an affair with a married man (“James”) who stopped contacting her after his wife hacked their emails.
Guests
No named guests appear; it’s hosted by Graham Norton and Maria McCurlin, who read letters and react to advice from listeners (“Wangers”).
Key claims
For the cabin problem, use straws/drawing lots or other “devious” logistics to force Maud into the smaller cabin while preserving group peace. For the affair, the hosts argue a married man won’t leave; James should move on, delete/block, and seek someone available and respectful.
Notable examples
“Bear will get her” jokes; hiding the party computer/music; listener suggestions like “move on” and “delete his number.”

1:00Maria McErlane:This episode of Wanging On is brought to you by Drambui. Drambui Ice Espresso, the unexpected crowd-pleaser. Please enjoy and share Drambui responsibly. Visit drinkaware.co.uk for more information. Why don't you push more doubt in the middle of the night and a bear will get tough. I'm really glad we're going to be alone together in the small cabin. If you go into an affair thinking you're going to get anything long-term or meaningful out of it, you're an idiot.
1:30Why, hello there and welcome to Wanging On with myself, Graham Norton and Maria McCurlin, where we offer helpful-ish advice. How are you, my dear?
1:40Maria McErlane:I'm good. I'm wondering about the helpful-ish advice. Well, do you think it is properly helpful? Yeah. Okay. No. It is December, Maria. I know. How did that happen? It's only just been December. It just rolls around. Are you organised? I mean, organized for what? I feel I have eliminated enough friends so that I don't have to be organized. I do that. I do a cull around October and then come Christmas. It's just me getting a present for me and the dog. Yeah. And then New Year's, you make some new friends and get on with it till next October. Yeah. That's my New Year's resolution. Make new friends.
2:20Maria McErlane:My old ones bore me, frankly. Yes. But cull them just before their birthday as well. Find out when their birthdays are and edit around that. Yeah, that sounds good. What about you? What's happening? I don't know. I mean, every year, I hate to be screwed, you know, because you feel like... No, you don't. You love it. No, well, apparently I do. But no, you want to embrace it. You want to kind of go, oh, let's have a party. Let's do this. This is bad. We, for the first time ever... I like that, yeah. We're going artificial tree. I feel bad. I'm so disappointed. I'm disappointed in myself, and yet thrilled that I don't know if the ball ache of a real tree.
3:02Maria McErlane:Yeah. I mean, I would actually say no tree better than artificial tree. Really? There, I've said it out loud. Okay, what I'll do is I'll make a sculpture out of wire coat hangers. If you could, with egg boxes on each corner. Do you know, people think I've paid good money for that. Yeah, it's an art installation now. Who did that for you? Tracy Emmon? so after she got out of that filthy bed yeah so you're not looking for I mean it's not for us it's for people with children Christmas is for children well no except I do love I like I love London when all the decorations go up the lights are there and the twinkly thing and I love when you squish your eyes and it all looks blurry and lovely I like all that but I just want to do I don't have to squish my eyes anymore things look blurry anyway I want it to happen I just don't want to be involved in making it happen.
3:56That's where I am.
3:57Maria McErlane:Do you buy yourself a present? No. Oh, I tend to sort of like treat myself to something. Well, what I find is when I go out to buy presents for other people, all I see are things I want. Well, that's okay. Should I tell people? Is anyone shopping for me? Well, people used to do Christmas lists in the olden days, didn't they? What? Maybe just as a child, you'd send a letter to Santa. Yes, people stop doing that quite young, normally. I still do it. He never brings me the things that I want. You pop it in the fireplace for some reason. Dear Santa, a new boyfriend, someone to spend my life with. Love, Maria, this is the fourth time I've written to you.
4:41There's that weird moment where you're driving along, you're in your house, and suddenly the Christmas music starts. Ay, ay, ay. But I don't, again, I don't mind it. I quite like Christmas music. It's Christmas.
4:55Maria McErlane:I mean, how much money did Slade make out of that? I wish it could be Christmas every day. Oh, yeah. That is one of those earworms. It just makes me go, oh, please kill me now. I wish it could be Christmas every day was Roy Wood and Wizard, wasn't it? Oh, my God, was it? Yeah. So who, didn't Slade have? Slade is the one that starts where, it's good. I just did that. Yeah, that one, yeah. They do do that one. And then I went into another song, didn't I? But I wish it could be Christmas every day. is my favorite, actually. Who even are you? Well, when I was a child and then I didn't bother picking another favorite.
5:24Maria McErlane:Yeah, but the problem is you get it all like Muzak type things and it's on in every shop as if playing that is going to somehow make you less hot and furious and flustered and irritated by having to spend thousands of pounds on things that nobody wants. And when we were on the radio, as we came close to Christmas, they would just put bells on every song you played. It did become infuriating. You felt like you had an artificial hip going up and down stairs. It was just, yeah. Well, you have an artificial shoulder now. Yes, my own built-in jingle bells. So I'm at your Christmas party and I can expect to hear lots of Wizard and Slade.
6:00Well, you won't be able to hear it because you can never hear the music.
6:03Maria McErlane:At parties. Yeah, because you spend so much time thinking about what Christmas songs I'm going to play. And I've got some Kelly Clarks and I love Wrapped in Red. It's a great Christmas album. Oh, yeah, good, good, good. Cher's Christmas album is Chef's Kiss. DJ play a Christmas song Yeah, we like that It's called outside Good, so I guess it's true actually You never hear it And especially in your house That noise builds Yeah, it's cacophonous And we've only got one tiny speaker You invite a lot of very shouty people It's funny that, isn't it? And then people get shoutier as they get drunker Yeah, it's like I Drunker or more drunk?
6:39Drunk Just drunk They arrive sober and become drunk Do they though? Yes
6:45Maria McErlane:I wonder Maria, time is marching on. It is. There are dilemmas and very shortly I will ask you to read one aloud.

9:55This problem could be anything. Shut up.
10:01Maria McErlane:See, you liked the before time. I did. Dear Graham and Maria, I'm in a book club with five other women.
10:12Maria McErlane:We've been meeting up for over 15 years and occasionally go on trips together. Wow. One member of our group, let's call her Maud. It's called Maud, nobody. Well, that's a pretend name. Pretend, okay. Let's call her Maud is exhausting. She's kind-hearted but very opinionated, a non-stop talker and drinks all the expensive wine. We're going away for a weekend and the accommodation includes a main cabin for four and a smaller adjacent cabin for two. Both accommodations are equally nice. We've stayed there in the past. One member of the group has once again put up her hand to volunteer to share with Maud in the smaller cabin.
10:51Maria McErlane:God love her. However, Maud insists she wants to stay in the main cabin this time. There will be a mutiny and the rest of the group will refuse to go if they have to share space with Maud for 72 hours straight. What can I do? And that is from Julia in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Oh, I'd like to go to your cabin in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Because I was thinking, why would you have to spend so much time in the cabin? Because it's Nova Scotia. It's freezing. Freezing. You can't go outside. I mean, I just, I mean, if there's going to be mutiny, if the people have to share time with Maud for 72 hours, why is Maud going?
11:28Maria McErlane:Why is anybody going with Maud? Why hasn't she been buried under some snow? I guess maybe in Nova Scotia there are fewer people to be friends with. And so, you know, Maud makes the cut. But I must say, the mystery in this for me, Julia, is that your book club has weekends away. That is not a thing in this country. No, but in Nova Scotia, it's different. I guess. Nothing to do. No discos. And maybe very long books. Very, very long. But I think the way you do this, even though, look, Maud has been in the tiny cabin before. It's just as nice as the foursome. And she doesn't want to be there again.
12:04Maria McErlane:But you can say, look, as a way of making it fair for everybody, and then the naysayers that don't want to spend 72 hours, well, they'll have to suck it up. You draw straws. Yes. And if you really want to be devious, you can fix it. Well, here's the thing. So that Maud gets the cabin. Again, what are the chances, Maud? Oh, very high, given that I just... Cheated. But also, Julia, I would say, so here's the odds. So Maud wants to be in the big cabin. Someone's already volunteered to be in the big cabin with her. God love her. God love her. So that's two beds gone in the big cabin. So you only need two more people to volunteer to be, and then two other people will now be delighted to be in the small cabin.
12:43And if, Julia, if you, you know, you're trying to solve this problem, so you volunteer to be the third person in the big cabin. And put up with Maud. And put up with Maud. Then you only need one more volunteer. and then it's done.
12:55Maria McErlane:Well, that's kind of good, but I like my cheating straws as well. Give Maud the wrong dates. That's, I mean, why Maud is going in the first place? Why is anyone going? Because there's nothing to do in Nova Scotia. Nothing's better than this. Why don't you push Maud out in the middle of the night and a bear will get her? They have bears in Nova Scotia? I'm sure they do. They will if there's fresh meat outside. Yeah. Leave her by the bins. And Maud will be very drunk because she likes the expensive wine. So she'll stagger about. She'll be chatting away. The bear will go, there she is. Shut up, Maud.
13:34Maria McErlane:Why do you ever shut up? I'm trying to eat. Why do you keep following me? I haven't read that book, Maud. I'm a bear. Oh, Julia, I just feel like this is one of those things. You've been friends with Maud for 15 years. I know, it's a long time. It's a lot of wine, it's a lot of books, it's a lot of chat, it's a lot of irritation. And also, I always feel in any group, there's got to be a victim of the group. Yeah. Just be thankful it's not you. Yes, because five of you really get on because Maud's in that group. Yeah, because she's taken that heat off. Yeah. But also, you've known each other for so long, surely by now you can tease Maud about her never stopping talking and about the fact that she's drunk all the expensive wine before the rest of you have arrived.
14:22Maria McErlane:you know it's a teasy situation and when you tease enough and if people back you up I'm not talking about bullying here Graham I'm talking about just kind of pointing out in a humorous way then hopefully she'll get the message and if not then it's the bear I like you've got a plan B B for bear B for bear exactly put her out in the snow should we see if anybody ooh shall we should we get to wangers this is Julia and her book club friends, what do they have to say? Tillman and Derek in Berlin. I like the fact that people are writing together. Yeah. And from abroad. Abroad, Berlin. From Nova Scotia to Berlin.
15:02Maria McErlane:Should we think of some sort of cliché things to say about Berlin now? Like we did about Nova Scotia. Yes, I suppose you could see in your basement. Okay. There is a simple, exciting solution, says Tillman and Derek from Berlin. Decide to draw lots for the cabin beds and make sure Maud ends up in the smaller cabin. It spares her pride and your sanity. However, you choose to do the devious business. Tillman and Derek, you are boys after my own heart. Be sure to destroy the evidence of the crooked straw, crooked draw, quickly while someone distracts Maud. Look over there. Perhaps with a nice bottle of Chateau Neuf de Pat.
15:40She'd love that. Here's my thing.
15:43Maria McErlane:Here is. Why are you drawing lots? To see who gets which bed. No, no, but you're only drawing lots to see who has to share with Maud. Otherwise, both accommodations are perfectly nice. Yeah. So everything was fine. But Maud has asked specifically that she doesn't stay in the tiny cabin anymore. So if you're drawing straws... You're drawing straws to make her stay in the tiny cabin. But how do you explain the straw drawing to Maud? Because Maud's going, well, hang on, we never drew straws before. Yeah, but you didn't want to stay in the big cabin before. But no one had to share with you before.
16:18Maria McErlane:I mean, you're saying we're doing it this way because you don't want to stay in a tiny cabin. Oh, but look, what are the chances? You're staying in the tiny cabin anyway. Yes. I mean, unless Maud has had a lot of the Chateauneuf to pop. She will have. She will see through this. Anyway, who else has wanged on? Hilary says, Maud sounds an absolute pain in the behind. But the great thing is that she loves drinking the very expensive wine. just make sure she drinks a lot of it and hopefully she'll pass out cold and give the rest of you some peace. The following day, she'll have the hangover from hell and will just stay in bed dosing herself with Nurofin.
16:54Yeah, I mean, I'm surprised that doesn't happen anyway. I don't, you know, that doesn't sound like a plan. That just sounds like reality. Yeah. But Maud is probably made of tougher stuff than you think, Hilary.
17:04Maria McErlane:I think Maud can really take her drink. She can handle her Chateauneuf. She can handle it and she starts talking at half past seven in the morning in a very loud voice about nothing. Up with the lark. Nina says... Well, bear ball prints again. If the cabin you've booked is in the woods, why not go for a bonding group walk? Enjoy the sounds of birds, admire the flowers in bloom. It's Nova Scotia. And marvel at how many small clearings off the beaten track there are. Why not bring a spade in case you feel like doing some spontaneous digging? I'm sure you'll come back feeling refreshed and confident that you'll enjoy future trips together.
17:44Maria McErlane:What she's saying there, what Nina is saying, if you can't read between the lines, Graham, is they're going to kill Maud and bury her. I'm not sure that's good advice. Also, the ground is very hard at this time of year. Permafrost. Yep. Yeah. And I've seen a lot of crime dramas set in Nova Scotia. They will catch you. Yeah. Yeah, they will catch you. Because there's nothing else to do but catch criminals. Yeah, because a bear will run off with one of her shoes. DNA. Oh, covered in it. Covered in it. Nina, I have to tell you that what you are suggesting is illegal. I'm very wrong. Alistair from Kilbachen.
18:16Maria McErlane:Kilbachen. It frankly sounds like you're mean girls. Maud is going away on a girl's trip, being herself and completely unaware. The plotting has been happening behind her back. And writing to us. Even a pity party for the brave person who has volunteered to sleep in the smaller cabin with her. I think you should all bunk in the one cabin so you can face your penance together and realise you're all quite horrid. It sounds like Maud and the expensive wine might be better off without you. Oh, shut up, Alistair. No, here's the thing. I feel like they've been friends 15 years. So again, we know they're of a certain age.
18:50You're too old to be bunking up. Just get a nicer cabin. There must be nicer cabins in Nova Scotia.

18:57Maria McErlane:I think cabins are perfectly well. Nice. I mean, the tour is just as nice as the four-er, as we've been told. But I think the problem is Maud. But you're still sharing a bathroom. At least in the small one, you're only sharing a bathroom with Maud. In the big one, you're sharing a bathroom with four people, or three other people. It's a lot. I think you're adding problems where you don't need to, Graham. Can I just say, shall we see what David has to say? Oh, yes. The lady who is bravely volunteering to room with Maud should approach her privately and detail how much she's looking forward to rooming with her, as it'll make her feel more comfortable in the group dynamic.
19:32Maria McErlane:Isn't she suffering enough? Make Maud think she's doing this lady an epic favour and being a good Samaritan. That way Maud is in this small cabin, but she thinks it was her idea and will be very pleased with herself. I think Maud will just think the other woman's a lesbian who's coming on to her. I'm really glad we're going to be alone together in the small cabin. What do you mean? Yeah, don't drink too much tonight. Maudie. I don't want you falling asleep on me. Well Julia Bon voyage Have a splendid time Driving each other Round the bed In your holiday cabins Don't forget Our email address For your Nagging dilemmas You can reach us At wangingon At listen.co.uk And maybe We can dispense Some non-expert advice In your direction There'll be more Of that kind of thing Next This episode of Wangingon Is brought to you By Drambui Which means we get to answer a bonus problem sent in by the Wangers.
20:32Maria, you've already opened your envelope. You're so keen.
20:35Maria McErlane:I was very eager, Graham. Dear Graham and Maria, at a party earlier this year, one of my invited guests kept taking charge of my computer and changing the music. It drove me mad. But nothing I said or did stopped him. I shall never invite him again, which is a shame, as I used to be friends with his wife. What would you both do in this situation, please? And that is from Catherine. I cannot have hidden my computer. Can you do that? Eh. I mean, you can hide a computer. It's a great parlor game. Kids love it. It's connected to the internet, so you can hide it so he doesn't know where it is. Okay, that's interesting, yeah.
21:13Maria McErlane:Why are you looking at me like that? Well, because we know it's connected to the internet. So it's somewhere in the World Wide Web. What I'm saying is, if he doesn't know where the computer is, he can't change it. But he can get out his phone and log on to your Wi-Fi or something. I don't know. Look, I think Catherine did the right thing. You say something to them and say, please stop doing that. It's my party, my music. Thank you very much. I think it is the act of someone who has got nothing to offer in terms of conversation and feels sort of socially anxious. and they think the only thing they can provide is the music.
21:55Wow. That's what I think.
21:56Maria McErlane:Yeah. That's them finished. Yes. Destroyed. You ripped them a new one. Well, Catherine doesn't even like them. She used to be friends with the wife. She likes the wife. So this is just one of those kind of weirdo guys that your friends end up with and now he's messing around with your computer. And you say, please don't. You say, please don't. They ignore you and then you never invite them again. I think what you've done, Catherine, is what we would all do in that situation. Yes, I think saying it once or twice to somebody, don't change the music again, otherwise I will, you know, have you removed.
22:30Yeah, or you go to the wife and go, control that moron. Yeah.
22:34Maria McErlane:But I think hiding the computer, but I think you're right, people can now log into your thing, can't they, and change things? I think can they. Do you see how many parties I have? With your sound system. I have to change my computer. I've still got those two little portable things that you take on holiday with you. Great though, aren't they? Yeah. Oh, I know. And people get to talk about how great the sound is, given how small they are. We love that chat. And you say, sorry, I can't hear you for the woofers. They're really strong. A company that's all built into that, the size of a box. Well, that's a difficult one, Catherine.
23:09Well, I think Catherine's lost a friend, essentially. Well, not even a friend, just some annoying guy who was messing with the computer.
23:14Maria McErlane:And also, you don't, whatever about... Men do. Men do. Men come in and do whatever they want in your house like it's theirs. I'm telling you that. Does that make me sound like a man-hater? No. It makes you sound like men have come into your house and done what they liked. Those are burglars. That man in the Balclava is being very reckless with my computer. He's changed my music and everything. And I have no idea who he is. I was watching that television. Bring it back. Catherine, those are our thoughts. Next time, before they even get to your laptop, why not surprise them with a glass of Drambui?
23:54Maria McErlane:It's the perfect accompaniment for every party, especially the way it's prepared here, Graham, which is a Drambui iced espresso. Do you know what gives Drambui its unique flavour, Maria? No, but I think you're going to tell me. It's Scottish honey made from the heather, do you see? Honey? Honey from the heather, I like that face. Well, that's why Scottish bees love Heather. I think the sweetness really complements the bitterness of the coffee, don't you? I do, Maria. Shall we toast to another problem solved? Let's do that. Chinky chink. I love the clink of ice. Drambui Ice Espresso, the unexpected crowd pleaser.

25:41Maria McErlane:We have got. Dear Graham and Maria, I've been having an affair with a married man for the past year. Things were going really well with him professing his love for me and vice versa. However, it has been revealed that his wife had somehow hacked into his email account and saw all of our email exchanges for a full month. Despite telling his wife that all is over between us, he messaged once more telling me that he'd love to see me again and would be in touch in the coming weeks. Four months have passed and I'm now starting to think that I will never hear from him again. Am I a fool for thinking a married man would value and respect me if he doesn't respect his own wife?
26:23Maria McErlane:Or should I make contact one last time, letting him know how I feel so I can get a proper sense of closure as I do feel mistreated by him. And that is from James, not my real name. Oh. So wait, so he's married? Yes. Yes, Maria. I think you've done the math. Yes. It's a very different problem when you get to the name at the end. Yeah, yeah, because I was expecting, you know. Melissa. Well, James, I mean, look, there's something very appealing about a gay man, I think, having sex with a straight man or seemingly straight men. No, but, you know, thinking you're turning them, et cetera, et cetera.
27:04Maria McErlane:But the writing was on the wall before you even started on this. And him saying the wife, he left his email for the wife to find, you know what I mean? People want to be found out. And he didn't know how to end it because he's a coward. A coward who's living probably a double life, which is somehow worse, but do we forgive him a bit for that element? but him saying I'd love to be in touch with you again, that's just blah, blah, blah. So when you say it's been four months, James, and you haven't heard from him again, that's it, mate. But the problem is, and here's the thing, James, you should be glad you haven't heard of him in four months because you will hear from him again.
27:48He'll, you know, six months down the line, he'll go, hmm.
27:51Maria McErlane:But don't... A bit itchy now, I might... Well, he can go and scratch it with somebody else, not you, James. I think if I were you, James... James is easy because James is just waiting. Well, you're hanging on, waiting for... I think have a bit more self-respect, James, if I can be so bold, because you're on a hiding to nothing here. And when, you know, if it's a man and a woman or a woman and a woman or whatever, people rarely leave their partners in these situations. What they want is a bit of excitement, and yours was especially exciting if he's married to a woman and he wanted to, you know, have a fun time with you.
28:27Maria McErlane:But I want you, James, to go and find someone who wants you for you. And is available. And is available. And also ready for a gay relationship, all those things. I think... Not in the closet, exactly. If you want to... I mean, having an affair is so... I mean, I get it, these things happen. But I think if you go into an affair thinking you're going to get anything long-term or meaningful out of it, you're an idiot. Because you've got to get a bit of excitement, a bit of sex, and that's it. Because if he does end up with a man, it won't be you, James. No. It'll be after he's left his wife, you know, being honest with himself, being honest with his wife, and then he's out in the world and he'll meet people.
29:17You're just...
29:19Maria McErlane:shrapnel I'm afraid James that's all you are and I want to kind of ask you James whether or not you have done kind of this on purpose to go for somebody who isn't available I mean there's a lot of that that goes on because then you can blame something that isn't you because it's more it's scary to go to be open and vulnerable and then somebody you know let you down whereas you kind of always knew James that you were getting let down here Because the minute you find out someone's married, you just say, get out of Dodge. What is the point of this? There's no point. What is the point of this? Yeah.
29:54Maria McErlane:And, you know, for all of those things, I will, everybody says this, I will change them. I will turn them into what I want them to be. No, no, you won't. And you won't do anything in this situation other than get on with your life and have some self-respect and have some confidence that you're enough. Yeah. And to find somebody, as Graham says, who's out and proud and not apologizing and not, you know, behind the bike sheds type of approach. There's a weird thing, too. You sometimes encounter with gay men who have sex with a man like this. Kind of go, oh, he'd never been with a man before. As if, you know, I'm so attractive.
30:31He was straight till he met me. And you think, well, that's what he's telling you. But that's probably not true. And I just, I wonder if James has got a bit hooked into that. that he feels really special.
30:42Maria McErlane:I do know a lot of my gay friends who do like the notion of a straight man. But I think that basically the difference between a straight man and a gay man is about eight pints of lager. Yeah. I mean, you know, if it feels good, do it. And after eight pints of lager, you don't care where the pleasure is coming from. Yeah, and then after a few months of that, you realize they've got really fat. Because there's so much lager. They're drinking so much lager. And then you don't want to sleep with them anymore. I think of times. QED, perfect ending. But James, I feel for James. I do too. Because he's foolishly got involved in this situation, which he should have got out of the minute he was in it.
31:21But that is easier said than done. And now you've allowed your feelings to get involved in this thing. And you're looking for closure. I mean, there was no opening. So how can there be closure? You know, you were never promised anything. You know, because I think you need closure at the end of a relationship if you walked into that relationship thinking, this is the rest of my life, and now look, we're not together anymore. You walked into this knowing he has a life. I'm just a funny little footnote in that life.
31:52Maria McErlane:So when he said to you, James, that he messaged you to say he'd love to see you again and would be in touch in the coming weeks, didn't any part of you think to yourself, no, he won't? And also, I feel like after four months, you should just be counting your lucky stars that this guy isn't in your life anymore. Be happy he's gone. That's your closure. Your closure is you've stopped hearing from him and rejoice and get out there and meet someone who is available, who isn't a proven liar. I mean, you know what I mean? Like in terms of personality traits, right off the bat, you know he's a bit of a wrong one.
32:31because he's betraying people. Your love is based on someone else's pain. Yeah. And that's a horrible feeling to have, I think. Should we find out? I think there's going to be some home truths from our wangers on. What have they got to say to James?
32:47Maria McErlane:We've got Heidi in Atlantic, Canada. Two words, move on. It seems he doesn't have the decency or courage to let you go cleanly with proper explanation. An apology and a goodbye. He's shown you who he is. Believe it and don't waste any more time on cheating married men. You deserve better and so do their wives. I wish you well. Heidi is, she speaks truth, Graham. She does. She speaks utter truth. But the trouble is he's not going to, yes, he's not going to get any of the stuff that, you know, he's not going to get the explanation, apology, goodbye. No, no, no, no, no. Lucy says, you should delete his number from your phone, all social media contacts and burn the bridges that tie you to this philandra.
33:29Maria McErlane:You deserve better. So does his wife. If it makes you feel better, write a letter to him describing how he made you feel. Then burn it with any mementos, gifts, and photos associated with him. You can then have the closure you need and find someone who is faithful. This is all very, very good advice, frankly. I mean, the other thing is what's really so kind of painful here is that you know that the wife has seen all your emails and she's gone, no, I'm going to stay with this guy. I mean, that's... Well, because we're all a bit codependent and broken. It's so painful. But I think she's seen this before.
34:08Maria McErlane:I don't think this is her first rodeo as far as it's concerned. And I do think Graeme is right when you say that he will get back in touch with you at some point because you're... Easy. Easy. And then, you know, revenge is a dish, best served cold, James. Then you can say no. I hope James can. Oh, I hope you can too. Darren Brighton sent us a voice note. He's had his cake and he's eaten it. And bless you, you're not a fool. I think he probably preyed on you in a vulnerable situation that you're in right now. Do not give him the satisfaction of reaching out to him. Leave him in his mess because that's what he's in.
34:42Maria McErlane:Good. Good advice, Darren. Well said. Sounding a bit like Ryland there. Was he? I thought so. Reg says, Dear Graham and the ever insightful Maria. I should read that again. And the ever insightful Maria. Stupid. Four months have gone by and he's starting to think he'll never hear from you again. You reckon, hello, wake up and move on. There are plenty more marriages to destroy. Yes, because actually we are letting James off the hook here. We're putting all the blame on other man. And it is true that he was the one cheating on his wife. But, you know, James was complicit in... Yeah, but I think Darren in Brighton was right because I think maybe he did prey upon James slightly because he knows what he's doing.
35:25Maria McErlane:He, you know, give the gifts or whatever, talk the talk, but never going to leave the wife. Yeah. So I think he knew. Hairy Fairy Tracy. Do you know who that is? Yes. Good. Hairy Fairy Tracy says, Never mind a married man not valuing or respecting you. What about respecting yourself and realizing you are worth more than being someone's bit on the side? Value yourself. Get yourself out and about, start a new interest, and you'll soon make a new circle of friends. and who knows, maybe a new love. She said new, an awful lot there, Hairy Fairy Tracy. Wangers, if we haven't managed to get to your message, do pop your advice in the comment section below this video.
36:05Does anyone out there think that James, not his real name, should get in touch with the guy? Lobby in your two cents too. And of course, thanks to James, not his real name, for being in touch. That was our final dilemma in this episode, but always room for an am I weird? I turn to you, Maria.
36:23Maria McErlane:Today's is from Katie. She says, Hi, Grandma Maria. Am I weird? I can't wink to save my life. I've never... Sorry? I knew you were going to do that. How did I know you were going to do that? Dear Grandma Maria, I cannot wink to save my life. Wink. I've never been able to. It's incredibly inconvenient for flirting. I've never met anyone else who can't. But it can't be just me. Oh, Katie. There are lots of people who can't wink. And also, Katie, you shouldn't be winking at people in order to flirt. I mean, I know what she means, but there are other ways to flirt. I mean, get yourself a fan, Katie, like they did in the olden days.
37:08Yeah, just lift up your top.
37:13Maria McErlane:No, don't do that, Katie. You know, you can't wink. It's a kind of physiological thing. It's not weird. It's just your face isn't built that way. Some people can wink with one eye, but not the other. See, I can't do that. Can you wink with both eyes? Yeah. Yeah. But I want to know what happens when Katie tries to wink. Do both her eyes shut or, you know, do her ears? What happens? To some extent, oh, you're so funny. That whole face collapsing in an attempt to wink. So you're probably only weird when you try to wink. So don't do it. Yeah, so don't do it. I would say just don't do it. I mean, you know, there probably is a school or a course that you can go on that will teach you how to wink.
37:56Maria McErlane:But I think there's more interesting things to do. There's probably a YouTube video. Oh, my goodness. There's a YouTube video for most things. Yeah. Yeah, a YouTube tutorial. Yeah. You know, if you really care, Katie. But be sure to put in wink, though, Katie. I think YouTube filters out those videos. Does it? Yes. Does it? I think it does. I don't think YouTube filters out anything, frankly. Pretty sure it does. So I don't think you're weird. It's just a physiological thing and you'll have to try harder on the flirting front. Be witty. Be coquettish. Oh, that was the word I was going to say. Where are you?
38:29Maria McErlane:Coquettish. And, um... Potato croquette. Be unavailable. And do a tinkling laughter like this. Hehehehe. Ugh. No. Maria, look at that. Wanging on is over for this week. Hooray!
