1:19What is up, people of the internet? Welcome back to another episode of the Waveform Podcast, We're your hosts. I'm Marquez. I'm Andrew. And I'm David. And this has been a, I don't want to say strangely quiet news week because you've heard about the quiet before the storm, but it is, it has been a pretty quiet news week, but we do kind of have like a grab bag of random topics that we do want to talk about that are all kind of related or somewhat in tech. I just hit the mic, but that's okay. So we're going to talk about our favorite RCS messages. We have TikTok getting into the podcast world, which is actually maybe not as crazy as it sounds.

1:51Two new foldables. And we also have a fun new game we're going to try to play, which involves budgeting for your tech. It'll make sense when we get there. But first, we have huge breaking Apple Vision Pro news. It's something that they didn't say in the keynote, but we've learned something factual, potentially about Apple Vision Pro. Are you ready for this? I'm ready. The previously named MagSafe battery pack is now actually going to be called the Magic Battery. If this battery was actually magic, two hours, it would last longer than two hours. And would it need to be another battery pack strapped into it to last longer?

2:31You wouldn't have to plug it in to watch a full movie. I think it's funny because they said it was like MagSafe or whatever on stage and then I think everyone assumed it would just like slap onto the side with a magnet because that's what MagSafe usually is. Yeah. But I don't think that's exactly what's happening. And I think they saw all the reviews and impressions videos and realized, oh, that's confusing. And then they took the MagSafe name out and they just said, what do we call it? Magic. Magic. but it's still a two hour battery what else does has apple called magic besides the mouse a lot magic trackpad magic keyboard keyboard magic i feel like there's software accessories the disk drive is the magic drive is it really yeah they like that word is no they still sell it for 79 in the store i've had to buy it because when i got an x-ray they give you it on a disc and i had to figure out how to buy a cd drive for my mac and that was rough you might be the only person who's bought an$80 disk drive to look at your x-ray i wanted to look at my x-ray i was like is my hand broken or not i guess i have to spend this money and figure this out yeah that's amazing wow yeah they had the it's literally on a disc was it broken it was broken yeah that's i remember probably worth the$80 exactly uh so yeah that apple also loves using the word magic on stage to describe how things work they're not the only company though i feel like google did that a lot with like the magic eraser and they'll say things are just like magic it works just like magic yeah well there is that quote any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic and i agree with that quote yeah i agree with it in the apple vision pro also it is a battery a magical thing the least magical thing about it is the two hour battery life yeah so honestly the headset itself like doing that demo everything kind of felt like magic the battery is just a battery.

4:14The headset is more magical than the battery. But would you have bought Apple Magic Headset? Magic Leap was the name of a real thing. Magic Leap was a real thing. Yeah, Magic Headset would be a terrible name. Yeah, that's true. But I wouldn't have counted out. Anyway, okay, so we have Google Messages turning on RCS by default, and group end-to-end encryption is now launched. I noticed this because I was texting from a review phone to another phone that I had and it was immediately RCS by default on and I was very happy about that and I was like I don't think I'd turn that on though that was cool cool to see um the iPhone is still no longer involved in this whole RCS thing yeah that's pretty much it yeah yeah I mean Google kind of was pushing this ad campaign for the last year or so called get the message or they've been trying to get Apple to adopt RCS or at least allow RCS in the Apple messages app yep not gonna happen um but i think you know when google first launched this i was like uh it feels like they're just being really like weirdly aggressive and like it's not really gonna do anything but i do think that it has helped the general public consciousness kind of like be more on google's side and i think that's the intention yeah i think that's a marketing campaign like i don't think they expect apple to change at all but it's a sweet marketing campaign to be like hey look apple's not changing this but we have yeah i i noticed like it's been a very uh well-received topic by people who find out it's kind of interesting like i don't think this ad campaign is designed to sell android phones no or to to get apple to actually change anything but i think because google knows that there's no shot they ever change it that they can just push on as hard as they want with this and if they do actually change they win but also if they don't change everyone just gets to see apple painted as kind of the bad guy in this one feature war yeah uh we did a video or a short on rcs and this whole part of the battle that they've been waging for a while and a lot of people in the comments are like whoa yeah i didn't know about this and this is actually crazy i didn't realize that yeah i remember hassan minaj was here we were talking um on the daily show and the same thing happened like he was asking me why are like the messages like there are so many different messaging platforms and like every time i try to message someone the android phones don't work with the iphones and i actually explained i think for the first time he's ever heard that i was like you know that's actually by design right like tim cook literally he'd never heard that yeah he was like yeah uh buy an iphone like get your mom an iphone he's like oh really that's actually fascinating we live in such a bubble yeah that's crazy so they're getting it out the bubble they're like spending money to tell people about this i think that them turning it on both by default for new and existing users is like really important and really good it's very rare that a company will auto flip on a switch that you have to opt out of yeah that has already been off because generally when you would start using google messages and rcs became available to your carrier there would be a pop-up that was like do you want to turn on rcs messaging but like what regular people that don't know what are like they have no idea what that means exactly when it first came out i like had my specific friends i turned it on i was like i know who has this on right now i texted like three people and then immediately saw like them typing back to me and all the things and we were all like oh my god this is so sick and i was like no one cares well yeah i mean google is changing like a lot of the verbiage in the messages app too because they now instead of like start a new message it says start a new chat and i think they understand that the word chat to people feels more like a free-flowing like live thing whereas messaging is more of like a like an email it's like a little old schooler yeah for sure yeah yeah um but yeah it's crazy that they turned it on my default for everybody i think that's really good they had 800 million people using rcs as of io uh and they said by the end of the year they'll have over a billion i'm pretty sure this just pushed them over like multiple billion the easiest way to get to a big number is force it yeah but i think it's going to be great overall for a lot of people who now just start texting each other and all of a sudden they have like you know rich messaging features i was gonna say it feels like there's no downside yeah just in the way i'm looking at it i think if you asked apple or if you asked other companies they'd be like well this is the google rcs or there are certain things that they don't want to to like jump in with google on but generally if i'm a user it's like oh you just turned on encryption for me you just added features for me and you just gave me like typing indicators and reactions, I feel like that's a win.

8:46Totally. Yeah. Yeah. And I think that over the next few years, like the sooner they were going to get this out the door, the better. Because over the next few years, it'll become less and less of a meme that Google doesn't have a competitor to iMessage, which I think is really good. Because like throughout most of the world, Android phones are way more popular than the iPhone. Yeah. So just being able to have something that can be with that is good. The group and to end encryption finally being live, also very important because when you would talk about rcs to people a lot of people who were sort of in the know would be like rcs is still a joke because it doesn't have group end-to-end encryption they mentioned that they were going to do this like over two years ago um single user-to-user end-to-end encryption through rcs launched over two years ago in a while yeah and they've said we're working on group messaging end-to-end encryption forever and they just launched it so very glad it's finally here do we know what happens yet if one person in the group chat doesn't have it does it just become the new i don't know like the whole thing breaks i would like to test this um because it's either the whole thing breaks but at uh wwdc this year one of the updates that they didn't actually talk about on stage but was an update to imessage was that if you have an android user in a group chat but there are also other iphone users in the group chat the iphone users can continue to use a lot of the iMessage features with each other and the Android users just won't really see those and it won't really work for them.

10:14But, that is sort of a two-sided, like, double-sided coin, right? Like, you could, that could be good or that could be bad, depending on how you look at it. So, they could either do that, Google could either do that, or they could just make it totally break. So, it's kind of up to them. Might have to try it. Might have to try it and find out. I think we have to test it, yeah. Mess around and find out. Dieter is very happy. Shout out Dieter. Dieter is somewhere in the basement of a Google office. Having a pizza party right now. RCS, baby. All right. What is this headline about TikTok hosting full podcasts?

10:50I'm not really sure. I see this headline and I'm like, all right, TikTok was short videos. And then it was 60 second videos. And then it was 10 minute videos. And then now suddenly they're like continuing to expand into like full on YouTube competitor. And then they're hosting podcasts. Is that what's happening? It's I read it this morning and I thought it was kind of interesting and I was confused like you were at first because when I see the people who watch TikToks, what is the most polar opposite form of content they would ever do? And it's hour plus long audio podcasts. Yeah. Feel just like polar opposites.

11:22But I actually do think it looks kind of neat. And I think in there is so at first I thought like and it's something we do on Waveform is we post short form content vertically on reels, on shorts, on TikTok. And sometimes they do pop off. But the reason shorts is the best for all of those is because immediately they can go to something in the same player to get to our actual podcast. And that's the video podcast. And this, what they're doing is they're letting you link your RSS feed into a podcast profile, I guess. I haven't figured this out. They said they started to roll it out to some users, but we haven't gotten it yet.

11:58But essentially you can upload that podcast episode from the RSS feed to link to any clips that you make into TikTok. So if you watch a 60 second long clip or whatever on TikTok of a podcast that seems interesting through that, you can click to it and it'll link to that audio episode. What I don't know about this yet is, is it going to pop up and say, like, listen to this in Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts? Or is TikTok going to have some weird audio player that it'll play in just pulling from the RSS feed that I don't know? We don't know. You could see either one happening. I would like it to pull you to something else, but I would assume they would want you on TikTok as long as possible.

12:40Yeah. So I could see a weird TikTok. That's the assumption. It would make sense if they kicked you out to just whatever your phone's default podcast player is. But also, if you're TikTok, you would rather not just kick people out to another app. So they're probably going to have some sort of embedded TikTok UI, maybe, for playing back audio files. Yeah, the person that wrote this up has a quote that says that it will allow users to listen to the audio of a video on the new podcast page while the app is in the background. Yeah, so you won't be leaving the TikTok. Yeah. makes sense that makes kind of like an in-app player i guess that's gotta be i feel like but when you open a link in twitter it has like the built-in browser inside of twitter instead of kicking you out to your browser but the problem with that is that you have to stay in that browser if you don't want to cut out so that does seem kind of weird because if you're on tiktok and you're just scrolling through tiktoks and you see a clip and you like it and then you hit the button are you going to just like be in that player for an hour and i think you can i think what adam said is that player can be in the background and play just like Spotify.

13:42It doesn't have to be the - Separate from the TikTok app, though? I don't think it's separate from the TikTok. I don't think you can scroll on TikTok anymore. Yeah. But if you were to turn it on, you can then still go on any other app on your phone, just like a regular media player. That would be ideal. Is my guess. I can't picture someone being like, TikTok, scroll. TikTok, scroll. TikTok, scroll. Oh, new podcast clip. And then just leave the scroll. Most people are in the scroll for a while, and they weren't just about to leave. They're like, I want to save this for later. I want to listen to this tomorrow.

14:10But just like leaving the feed immediately and listening to an hour audio episode seems insane. I see like definitely the pro of this, which is TikTok like wants you to be putting stuff like that up there. And then this is a way that potentially you can link to it faster. So for a creator, it's better. And if it does somehow leave you on that page playing for TikTok, it still counts as like people staying in the app, which I'm sure is great to boost numbers. but also like like i said before who on tiktok wants to go listen to an audio podcast when you're in like tiktok's low attention span scrolling mode this is interesting it feels like it would be a better feature for google because they have the google podcast app they have youtube music and they have youtube yep and if you and then you have youtube shorts so if you see a podcast on youtube shorts maybe you want to go to that clip on youtube or maybe you want to go to the google podcast app is it um youtube music or it was one feature that allows you to watch the podcast and then switch between the audio and video version yeah it's so confusing that they have a podcast app and they also have youtube music which plays podcasts yeah that's so and they also have the clip feature where you can like link someone to a clip of a video and it'll look like just a short video but you're actually watching part of a longer video that you can expand that It stems from streaming because Twitch has it.

15:31It's called Twitch because like if you're doing an eight hour thing and you want to just like show a really quick part of that. And then when YouTube started going harder into the streaming platform, they added that. Can you do that on regular videos? Yeah. Oh, really? Yeah. So you can link any long video like a section. So instead of just timestamp linking, you can just like basically shorten it for them to just a clip. I've never put it together that it's the same player for live streaming and regular so you can clip regular videos. Do you still get a view for that? Does it screw your view duration?

15:59Probably. Typical Google, like, have this fun new feature and watch your video algorithm get destroyed. Wasn't that a premier Stadia? That you can jump into a game at any point in the game? It was a feature they wanted to bring, but they never actually did. What if they did that for podcasts? That Stadia feature was really funny because it got announced and it was just like the erasing the fence feature. It never actually happened, but the whole time you're like, wouldn't it be cool if i was watching someone live stream a game and then they failed at a level and then i just double clicked the game and i was in that level yeah it was that exactly at their stage they never never that was way too good to be true yeah that was such a cool idea that we'll never see i don't think yeah look what's funny this actually would make a lot of sense for spotify only because that's what i was thinking the way that they reason they recently like reorganized spotify to feel more like tiktok because you know how now on spotify they have like a discover thing where it plays the like most fun 10 seconds of a song to see if you want to listen to the song i remember that changing but now i'm realizing i don't know if mine ever fully changed mine updated temporarily and then went away it's like just enough stuff come out that people like hated it because mine is definitely back to like the old goods i think that it's like hidden in there like it shows up sometimes on your home feed now okay but what they could do is they could have if you have a video podcast it could show you like a clip of the podcast and then if you tap on it because the benefit of spotify video is that you can like transition between audio and video all the time yeah so being able to do that through there makes sense because they already have a tiktok-esque feature um and surprisingly a ton of people use spotify for podcasts oh yeah i do on they've been pushing it yeah they've been pushing it for a while i mean i don't i use it yeah do you use it for video podcasts too no all right so i have absolutely no i i've started listening to some podcasts in spotify but i haven't actually pulled up a video podcast in spotify i guess there's still a lot of them on youtube quick question why don't you guys use it it's just my like what i listen to all my music on so it just feels like the audio platform for me yeah it's been like forcing its way like one or two podcasts i listened to got removed because they bought it like spotify bought it and made it spotify exclusive so like okay now i have like two podcasts i'm subscribed to in spotify so i'll listen to those over there but everything else is in pocketcast and like organized and i have my system for it yeah so like it kind of bounced back and forth i guess yeah i don't for a few reasons like one i like my apps to be consolidated into the specific things they're for yeah and i've used pocketcast since like it was born in like 2010 it's like a really old app that is now amazing um and it auto downloads podcasts all these things and then also uh i have listened to a couple episodes through spotify whether because they were like spotify exclusive or someone sent me a link to like a show that i'm never gonna listen to again but only wanted to hear that episode yeah and spend it to send it through spotify the problem is that once you listen to a podcast episode in spotify it starts recommending podcasts with the music it recommends you.

19:11It just starts popping up podcast recommendations. And it's like, I don't want that. I listen to specific podcasts that I want. I don't really do a discovery thing that often. I do wonder, and to slightly go back to TikTok here, is the reason I won't say this is bad at all is any discoverability in podcasts feels good because of how bad it is. That's true. The podcast world has no discoverability. I think every podcast should be on YouTube just for the discoverability part, even if you have no video. It's hard to make a podcast discoverable because it's not a quick consumption thing. And it's not like a, it's not all in one place.

19:49Like an RSS feed means you can, we're all listening on different apps. Like there's so many other places you can have it. So they'll all have potentially their own discoverability. But I also agree with you on Spotify. Like when I get into a podcast listening mode, then I'm mad that none of my music is showing up as like the recent or recommended, or then I'm listening to music They kind of listen to one podcast and then like it's all podcasts again. And so like that split would be nice. I like to have them segmented. That's why it's interesting to me that in other countries like China where you have WeChat that has everything in it, people are like OK with that there.

20:20But I feel like in a lot of more Western countries, people like people like to have separate apps for everything, which is like I'm not sure that this X app thing. Yeah, that's the only reason it's not going to work. I don't know. Who knows? It could. I'm interested to see what kind of conversions this TikTok thing makes in the end well if we get the opportunity to try it we'll try it because we make the clips anyways then all we have to do is link each episode but I'm very interested to see who's like I want to watch 30 seconds of mind numbing video clips and then listen to a one hour tech podcast after audio only I'm sure it's a non-zero number but we'll find out exactly how low that number is eventually yeah yeah alright well we should take a quick break but we also need to talk about this one plus foldable leak and some other things after the break so before we get there let's do some trivia trivia so we just spent the past 10 ish minutes talking about podcasts and rss feeds and all that fun stuff oh boy what does rss stand for i know it i don't i don't i'm glad i know it yes that's a point for me yes we'll be right back we'll do the answers at the end like we usually do but I know the answer we'll be right back jealous

24:17Visit T-Mobile.com. All right. Welcome back. We have foldables. A lot of foldables. hot foldable summer hot foldable it's kind of popping it is as but no I just like that I like that a lot that's the summer of foldables that's 2020 I think we have the title for this episode hot foldable summer it's like Wawa's hoagie fest but it's foldy fest oh that's a title that's a title hold that title back pocket foldy fest just keep that one there's no SEO on that one No, yeah, there's none. But we have a OnePlus foldable and a Xiaomi foldable. Xiaomi. We might as well talk about them. At the end of the Xiaomi.

25:01You should explain why. People are like, why did he just say it like that? At the end of the Xiaomi ad, they just have this like chime. You know how everyone has a chime? Like Samsung has like, wait, hold on. Yeah. It's the same chime every time. Like Xiaomi has a chime. but then after the chime it's just a generic voice saying it's a very powerful male narrator and it just goes show me yeah and it's every it's every time it's every time just so you know that's why i said it like that we should start ending mkbhd videos like that just do mkbhd it's like a weird like audio sample dj show me uh what's up guys mkbhd here where were we okay so they're making a foldable adam can play it they're making a foldable so the the xiaomi one is just like a little bit of a i guess it's a teaser of like what it'll look like it's the mix three and i think the most interesting part about all these is how each of these form factors is looking slightly different like prioritizing different things yeah because at this point we kind of have a whole new landscape of foldable devices we have rumors about this oneplus foldable being more like passport shaped but squared up if it is i will be so happy then we have i'm gonna pull out the pixel fold yeah which is like passport shaped but more rounded on the sides yeah we also have the tall skinny candy bar that unfolds like the samsung fold so there's a there's a bunch of yeah this is becoming like we're realizing we need foldable tier lists soon honestly i feel like candy bar whack if i was working at samsung right now i'd be thinking really hard about uh adjusting the shape or making a new phone with a like a passport yeah i agree because that seems to be i mean i just way prefer using that shape of a foldable if there was any company to make like two foldables not including the flip but you know two hot dog yeah samsung would do it easy but the xiaomi one their thing is like it's going to be super thin yeah and you open that phone and you're like dang each half of this is like way thinner than a normal phone but you put it together and use it and it feels like the thickness of one normal phone the last foldable they made was like that it was super thin yep uh almost no crease on there's another one too which uh a lot of them are doing way better with the crease basically and they flatten it out so it's like the the xiaomi one has quad cameras on the back it seems like it's going to be an ultra high-end flagship the one plus one there's some leaked specs potentially it's got flagship specs as well 4 ,800 million power battery, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, strong rear cameras, whatever that means.

27:39I love that. That was my favorite Leak spec. Strong rear cameras. Strong. Nice. Does the Leak have the Hasselblad logo? Yeah, it does. Yeah. Oh, they still gotta get their money's worth out of that. Why add another camera when you can put a Hasselblad logo there instead? The Flash is literally, in this render from OnLeaks, is literally off the camera bump so they can put a Hasselblad logo where the Flash probably should be. Can I ask you something? Yeah. Sure. Can I ask you a question? Was the water brown? Do you use a flash ever on your phone when taking pictures? No, but I use the flashlight.

28:16I use the flashlight. Okay, that's different. So there is, number one, do you use a flash for the camera? No. Number two, do you use the flashlight for anything? Yes. The flashlight, yes. And then number three, do you think most other people actually do use the flash for photos? When people use the flash for photos, it's because they have auto flash on. But they just leave it. It's because they're morons. Well, also now, the default now is to have, everyone has a night mode now. Right. And night mode with that kind of HDR generally doesn't use the flash at all. So it has to be a very intentional decision for you to turn flash on now.

28:53Let's hear from Ellis. He said he does use the flash. I do use the flash. For what? I do not enjoy the look of photographs on my iPhone 12's long exposure night mode. Yeah. Just don't look. Well, in a lot of situations, yeah. And I'm willing to trade off kind of spotty lighting. But also, in my home studio, I have a big rack of gear against a wall. And it's really annoying to get behind it. and so I very often have to take my phone and reach over it and take a picture of the back of the rack. I do that a lot. And the flash really comes in handy there. So in photos that you consider like taking to show other people or like because that's a photo you're just taking for the information at that point right but like if you're going to post something on Instagram or Twitter probably never flash.

29:45No I did use a flash for that like a week ago. I'm trying to remember the i reported it i will say that um a lot of the younger generation right now that like 90s party flash camera look is becoming really popular again i was just i was gonna say the same thing like yeah people like the look of less polished maybe it's just because like disposable cameras had a moment and like that look had a moment but also i had a conversation i overheard a conversation recently that it's like sometimes you just hear a normal conversation and you're like ah that's the way people think about it yeah and you know how when you have most night mode if you're like in a dark enough situation you hit night mode you have to hold it still for like three seconds i think they said something like oh yeah i just i'll turn the flash on because otherwise it takes too long like yeah that's exactly why people use the flash yeah it takes three seconds to not have a flash i gotta tell you a story okay i was i was outside um this is when i was in the pacific northwest a couple weeks ago and i was outside by a lake in the evenings in the evening and there was this person who like also pulled up near us to do this like landscape thing but they went to take a photo like of the stars like oh wow the stars are so beautiful and they turn their flash on and hit the shutter button yeah so you could see the stars better that's what they that's what they said they're like oh i gotta turn the flash on and i was like oh my sweet summer child i don't think that light is going to illuminate the stars i've used the flash for like food photography Like if you're trying to get like a close picture of like a plate.

31:18It can be an aesthetic sometimes. Yeah, it can be an aesthetic. For sure. Choice. But that's it. I feel like every time I've taken a picture of food with the flash, it turns it into like a lemony Snicket. Get that nowhere near me. If your plate is reflective enough, you'll have an orb glowing back at you. If you're in a dark room or a darker room like a restaurant and you have the flash on, now all of a sudden your food is casting shadows on itself. True. Yeah. It's terrifying. It's a vibe. If you're in a darker room like a restaurant, my favorite is the people who don't realize the flash is on in a dark space, and they take it, and you see them just hide their camera immediately.

31:52Like, I wasn't made it. Okay, sorry. I have another story. Andrew. Oh, my God. See how long it takes, though? Wait, the light just is on, though. That was a focus flash. Oh, it had to focus first. There's a focus flash, and then the photo flash right after. David just flashed me for audio listening. Oh, my God. And it took it like three seconds later. I'm not even in the photo. I've literally backed off from the flash at that point. That's rough. Anyway, all of this is to say, when I see the flash up in the corner of this OnePlus phone, I think, personally, who cares? It's a flash. I'm never going to use it.

32:24But I also remember that there was a brief age where we went from single LED flash to dual LED flash, and then dual tone for two different temperatures of LED flash, so we could match the temperature of the flash to the color temperature of the room. and there was this whole then there was a moto phone with a ring light around the camera like there was a like a three-year period where we really seemed to care about flash well the manufacturers did at least yeah they cared about flash and i think it kind of like 3d tvs we all just kind of went never mind yeah it's fine so i have a story okay so this oppo find n that i've been using from around the office also has a flash on it and it's a foldable yeah which is how this conversation started can we get back to foldables oh yeah thanks yeah thank you wait i actually do have something so like in these oneplus renders we're talking about it being squared off and that looks very squared off yeah but is the flash big enough have you ever i have a story about flashes they put the hassle plan logo where the flash should have been yeah they should have called it hassle flash oh my god wait but in the me mix 3 teaser continue they're definitely doing the like kind of bezeled edges to make it feel thinner right yeah yeah yeah the thing is it's bezeled on both sides would it be weird to have it only bezel on the outside portions of it and then flat on the middle so then when it's folded like you're holding a normal phone it's only like the exterior is bezel and you don't feel the i agree with you bevel it bevel it on the outsides because the the inside i've i've held that before what phone was like that that was like beveled on the inside and outside and it just felt weird right because you feel that there's a split in the middle so you're holding it like that it's just weird to have it curved on both sides but i get it because the old OnePluses were beveled on the outsides and the phones felt so thin despite not actually being that much thinner.

34:12So if you have a thicker phone, make it feel thinner, but then also don't make it feel like a huge crack down the middle. Something they changed from the Oppo Find N1 to the Find N2 was that the Find N1 was rounded and beveled on both sides and then the Find N2, they flattened the sides. And the Find N2 feels a lot better in my opinion. There's a Xiaomi that I'm forgetting the name of that had the right side thicker than the left side. Do you remember this? They made a foldable where one. Oh, no, no, no. The foldable? It was the outside fold, I think. It was a normal fold. But yeah, it was a wedge shape.

34:46So the entire thing open was a wedge shape. And when you folded it shut, it was a rectangle. And because you had more weight in the right hand, it would feel like the center of gravity was more in your hand. Because now when you hold a foldable wide open, it's like, it's kind of big. I remember what you're talking about now. Yeah. Wasn't it the Huawei, the first Huawei? Yeah, I think it was Huawei. It was a Huawei. It was the first Mate X. It was a Huawei phone. Because it had that hand grip on the right side. Whatever happened to that idea? No, no. That's kind of cool. That was the one that folded outside, and that's because it had the cameras on it, and it had to fold into the cameras.

35:20Yeah. So I guess technically that was weighted differently, but it wasn't wedged. It was a different Huawei phone. There was a Mate X. So if you look up Mate X2, see this? Yeah. It looks so weird. It looks like you sharpened a stick at the campfire. but it did have a really interesting good feel in the hand so there's there's a whole bunch of new folding ideas happening they're kind of floating out there we're trying to figure out what works in folding phones what people actually buy the thing is they're all still so expensive it's not like we're getting like a 700 folding phone unless maybe the razor comes out and it's 700 bucks because the razor plus is still a thousand oh right there's the cheaper one coming out yeah but as of as of right now it's still in early adopter phase but we have just way more options to early adopt.

36:02It's hot foldable summer, my guys. Yeah, gotta vote with our wallets. Can I end this on a question? Sure. Do you think we'll have a foldable category in the smartphone awards this year? I think we should. If there's ever a year to do it, we're, I mean, obviously every year is going to have more and more, but this feels like legitimately a dozen choices. Yeah. I am willing to commit to that. Okay. Wow. On this podcast. Just like every year we've gotten closer and closer and i think this past year the best compact phone category i i had a moment where i was like i i think i have to pick a non-folding phone because when i open the folding phone it's not as compact as the zen phone yeah but it is technically more compact yeah and these folding phones kind of deserve their own recognition and i feel like this year there's just so many ideas yeah worthy of being recognized that we should have a for the first time a new category in the smartphone awards probably since its inception i think we've only added one category ever so yeah folding phone is getting an award that's another trophy it's another trophy it's coming out of somebody's paycheck and i did not suggest this it's a 200 trophy no yeah i think we should do that and i'm not gonna give any teasers but i've been daily driving you guys already know i've been daily pixel fold for a while it's my favorite foldable to come out this year but there's still more coming you heard it the winner already maybe maybe maybe the oneplus will be good when you guys see the video you can comment i knew about this because i watched the podcast six months ago in december you'll be like i found out in august what it's rigged i watched if you comment that in december that and also comment microfiber then i'll pin it i'll pin it i'll at least heart it all right that's it um we're gonna go to an ad break and next up we have a fun game that Adam kind of created last night.

37:53I don't think you really know about it. David kind of knows about it. I kind of know about it. Sort of. It's going to be fun. You won't want to miss it. Trivia question. And there's those trivia questions right now that you don't have to miss. You never have to miss anything if you always listen to the Waveform podcast hosted by Andrew Manganielli and Marcus Rantley and David Amell. And all the way through 100 % every time. Do you guys want to hear a joke? No. Whoa! Didn't you say you were going to make this joke as soon as Yeah, but the vibe wasn't there. I can make the joke now. All right. Do you know the one about the ancient Greek tailor?

38:27No. A guy walks into an ancient Greek tailor, and the tailor looks at him and says, Ah, Euripides? Ah. Okay. Now for the trivia question. Nice. According to Hong Kong-based industry analysis firm Counterpoint, what is the most expensive part of the iPhone 14 Pro Max? A, the display. B, it's processor C, it's cellular components so like antenna, 5G modem stuff like that or D, it's camera system I didn't know that CounterPoint was based in Hong Kong yeah I guess that's the next trivia question and with that we'll think about it and we'll be right back

41:38Terms and conditions apply. All right, we are back. and first we are going to play a game that i thought of a couple days ago and i told andrew yesterday and he seemed about it i'm calling it uh break the budget we have music for it already always have music i love you guys so much so in this game what you're going to do is pick a number out of the hat which was andrew's idea this morning great idea just throw a variable in there yeah i i wrote down a bunch of prices is there an x in there or a y oh i should have i wrote down a bunch of prices put it in a hat on a piece of paper you have to pick the piece of paper and you will get a budget so let's say i don't know fifteen thousand dollars okay that would be great because none of those are i would also i would love 15 but so what you have to do is pick three devices three three devices you can't go over that budget that you would use for the rest of the year in your everyday life and they're they're your only tech pieces only tech pieces yeah so like your phone your laptop headphones like anything that's tech wow that's rough and it's the only stuff you can use right like we were trying to figure this out like you can't say like oh work has this nice laptop i can just take home for this weekend it's like your personal use tech stuff do we have the same jobs in this hypothetical we're all like i literally can't do a lot of my job with that budget well no so we were saying like work has computers that we use for work but like when you leave and you have your computer personal personal personal stuff personal stuff okay let me go hogar you can still have your red camera at the office okay but if you're shooting a family video with it you have to use whatever you got and it has to stay under the budget and you have to pick three you can't be like i'm only picking one and screw the other two like you have to go watch this tesla's ai robot cost and is it msrp uh yes great i disagree i think we should be able to do used stuff if you can find it and prove it right now during okay okay i'll agree if you can look it up and it's used for a certain price right now i'll accept that yeah i think you have to find it live though if you'd be cool with using it then that's yes i I love you stuff.

43:54Do you think this is easiest if we all pick and all start thinking at the same time, and then we all just one by one go through, or do you think one person should do all three? One person should go at a time. At a time? Top of the dome. Top of the dome. I do like top of the dome. Okay. That's what I was going to say. Sounds like you're going first, then. Sounds like I'm going first. All right. I'm picking out of the hat. I hope you get tree-fitty. The number. All right. I have a piece of paper in my hands. I'm opening it. the number i have one thousand five hundred dollars u.s wow that's really good three quarters of a fold i guess i'm not using the pixel fold you can't buy a pixel fold with that okay so i'm gonna start i think my daily tech is gonna be a phone a computer and headphones yeah i think i don't really think i need a camera if i didn't a phone okay i think i'm gonna go shoot zen phone 10 I could go Zenfone 9 actually let me look up the Zenfone so Marquez what did you find with the Zenfone 9?

44:57I'm good yeah I'm good so Zenfone 9 new$600 so you've got$900 left yes headphones ATH-M50s wired plugs right into the Zenfone that's pretty balling of course you could be this smart those are about$130 about 130 and then i'm trying to figure out if i want to do laptop or ipad i'm genuinely torn because an ipad i think puts me i can't do the pro because that's over budget i'm at i'm at seven i'm at 7 30 right now you say zen phone 10 right you might be able to have one pro he wants to go back oh i could probably get an m1 ipad pro let's see i'm the one i'm actually using in real life m1 ipad pro so you're okay with no wireless charging yeah that's fine um because i have to buy a wireless charger you know that's expensive good point if you spend 100 more you could get a zen phone 10 100 more that's huge the zen phone 9 is amazing yeah i could and it's basically the same that's true just i could live without wireless charging yeah and let me get an m1 ipad pro 12.9 inch for 850 bucks whoa that puts me right really right at the yep is that used or is that just that's refurbished on amazon you have 50 that's a great price no keyboard wait 150 that's fine that's fine 50 you're fine expensive your personal wait wait wait marquez you're 80 dollars over budget oh you're at 1580 okay i'm gonna go to 128 gig then you're buying an ipad instead of a laptop i think i've no keyboard makes that much tougher i feel like well at home i'm not like doing create i'm like watching videos and like emailing and not i'm not going too crazy yeah um if if i get it for 800 does that put me under budget i think i'm 30 over you're 30 over but yeah i'll let it slide out no no no no no no sliding if you guys could get closer to the actual number why he's figuring that out can i ask a question go for it does it have to just be like at least three or only three no i would say only three only three what if i need more than three no accessories so no pencil no pencil wait no i don't need the pencil we don't get accessories no no if it comes with the phone you're buying sure or the computer you're buying or whatever but That was my question.

47:13You might get a really big budget anyway. All right, I'm going to switch to the 11-inch iPad Pro in order to get on budget, which means I can get a Wi-Fi plus cellular 128 gig for$670. But how much is that plan? Refurbed. He just doesn't use it? There's my$670. $670 refurbished? So instead of a laptop? Yep, at home. and you'd be willing to use Final Cut on that for the rest of it. I'm not on Final Cut at home. So you're at$1 ,400. That's right under budget. Yeah, I feel good about that. At home, Zenfone, nice headphones, plug them into the Zenfone. And if I ever want to watch a YouTube video or like email some people or like do some casual work.

47:55How do you listen to music on the iPad? Yeah, or watch a movie. Or listen to audio on the iPad. I just play it out. Just on the subway, full speakers, on the plane, full speakers. I'm going Zenfone, yeah. I'll watch a movie or I'll... That's a big difference. Yeah, I'll put a movie on the Zenfone. All right. It's fine. You have$100. You could go for the Bluetooth ATH M50s as well. How much? Exactly$100? You have exactly$100 to meet the budget. I'll get a pair of AirPods. Well, you can only get three things. Oh, never mind. So I'm good. Okay. I'm good. $1 ,500, I feel like that's solid. We're going versatile here.

48:26Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm good with that. All right. Do you want to go next? You go next. Can I change the music to something a little more dramatic? Sure. Is this AI-generated music? No, no, no. Bummer. Should I use AI-generated music? Yeah. type in podcast game based on budgeting tech i'll do that for the next one um yeah it takes a little bit so this is just ai generated music that was uh i made yesterday and i have no i they're all you make it or today i make yeah i made it depends you know it depends how you look at it i i hate this no i knew i would get this i got 500 i think our average view duration just plummeted it's gonna be rough 500 500 all right listen that is obviously a lot of money but the main thing i wanted to talk about was a gaming pc and i think that's just kind of out the window it looks like it's pub g mobile for me but um yeah okay five hundred dollars you have to buy three things i have to buy three things okay holy crap i'm just the first thing i'm gonna look for is like a samsung s20 or 21 okay actually yeah s21 ultra is ultra not even ultra i think i'm just gonna go ultra you can get for 350 this is gonna take me a little longer than i thought i I was really hoping I would get the bigger one.

49:53I wanted to buy a gaming PC, but that's definitely not happening. We can go through again. Check Timu. Check Timu. Oh, my God. Just throw$500 away, pretty much. Light it on fire. That's not an endorsement. Don't buy anything on Timu. Okay, no. Okay, look. You can get a brand new Pixel 4a for$160. What about, is there like a Pixel 5a for cheap? The 4a is so good. It is really. It's like one of my favorite phones. Oh, wait, no, Pixel 5a. Yeah, 4A. 4A rocks. Brand new for$160. On what? On eBay. On eBay. Okay. No, I like that. Trust that. Pixel 4A. Bro, he's got 199 reviews. Five stars. Like you can buy it now.

50:35Pixel 4A for$115. 128 gig. Pixel 4A, 128 gig. $115. Okay, cool. Sorry, my calculations are bad, so I'm going to do this. What is that? Oh, refurbished. $115. Okay. so i guess what i need to figure out what i do want here so i want a pair of headphones i'd really like wire bluetooth ones with some sort of noise canceling for when i mow the lawn wow my lawnmower costs way much than my whole budget here is supposed to be silent because it's electric can't use that anymore true um gotta use scissors man i really want the link bud's s this is on amazon link buds s for 148 that sounds legit so you're at minus 262 238 dollars what do i want though there's nothing i'm buying that's gaming so you have a pixel what what is the switch i have a pixel 4a i think switch light 199 so then i think i can just get the non you're gonna switch i think so i want to play some sort of game the problem is is the link buds s all of it is 199 except for the uh one random amazon seller which kind of feels like a scam that it's 26 off is it oh is it just because they're white on oh yeah there's the white okay i'm just taking that the white's cheaper there's 150 pair of link buds s sony or a pixel 4a a pixel 4a 128 gig for 115 and a switch light pixel 4a 128 gig link buds s and a Switch Lite.

52:09Very nice. So you're closer to the budget than Marques was. Yeah, but percentage-wise. That's actually a pretty good... How much are Switch Lite? $199. Wow. That's good. That's a gaming-prioritized setup. Yeah, I was hoping to get the $10 ,000 budget. I don't know if there is. Let's see what you get. Wait, let's use more AI-generated music. This prompt is is... Podcast. Music that would play as a stinger during a Price is Right style game show should build suspense. Super suspenseful when he already has it in his hand.

52:54I don't know about this one. I don't know about this one. Alright. I got$2 ,000. Nice. $2 ,000. Yeah. this is a big baller budget over here all right let's see what are you what are your three things are you gonna prioritize a certain thing or just go like computer yeah okay you should go smart watch pencil and gaming pc just kidding pencil just get yeah the fold five and then have a hundred dollars left and use decks actually yeah reasonable you need a monitor for it though i guess yeah I think that so in my backpack I always carry a laptop with me because I always randomly need it for like photo editing or writing or whatever.

53:40So I need to get a laptop. Okay. And the cool thing about the like M1 series like MacBook Airs and stuff is that they're so powerful for being so thin. They're still a little bit expensive. M2 MacBook Air? Is that what you're thinking? M1 13-inch MacBook Air$999. no yeah m1 m1 the old design but the new one is so much better the new design the better one 1099 1100 1299 for the m2 that's barely over half your budget i mean that's the most important but that's easily the most important by a long shot to me i think that my laptop is more important than my phone so i'm going to how much is it 1099 yeah for wait how much storage um yeah 256 sorry oh man eight core cpu gpu you want to do a little memory upgrade for all of the rest of your seriously look at this look how much more it is it's 300 for double the storage that's crazy yeah how many that's the question how many years am i living with this setup only the rest of the we said rest of the year okay which i guess august is could do 128 gigs you should imagine you're living with this for a year yeah for the m1 chip with more storage how is how much is that let's see so the m1 chip starts at$9.99 if you want to go to 512 it is$11.99 i'm gonna do m2 because the experience overall is better and i can live with the 256 gigs of storage i don't know how i can live with the 256 gigs of storage because like well you're not paying for cloud i already have i already have some like hard drives so i can do that right you can't that's tech how am i supposed to make videos yeah that's the challenge what did you do for your last one do you count as work i had an 11 inch ipad air he's counting videos as work so are you doing videos as personal or i'm gonna i think we can count your channel as work we can yeah this is just leisure okay we'll mean we'll say we'll okay i think we'll say work okay cool cool okay m2 macbook air 256 giga storage so that's 1099 1099 okay so i have 900 left all right 901 901 oh thanks math genius over here um okay i want headphones and a phone which i know is boring 900 bucks what's it gonna be i feel like you could get a lot yeah yeah that's a good point yeah okay um i'm going to get maybe a zenphone 10 750 no it's not that much 700 bucks it's 700 yeah 699 699 right yeah so i have 301 left yep for headphones not quite enough for the like flagship headphones unless you get them used i mean you can get some nice ass headphones i could They have$202 left.

56:44Wait, really? Yeah. It was$1099 for the MacBook Air. And$699 for the Zen phone. Oh, you're right. I have$202. I can still get nice headphones for$202. Are you an earbuds person or an over-ear headphones person? Earbuds. You can get the LinkBuds S. I know you liked them also. Or how much are the Bose ones? I was literally just about to ask that because I use those every day. I think they're$300 though. I thought they were$250. Would you ever buy used earbuds no i think i would buy used headphones i don't think i'd buy used earbuds especially if they're leather cups on the headphones you wipe that off a lot easier or buy new cuffs but yeah they were on sale the other day they're 250 and that's on sale that means i could get the zenphone 9 in these which i would i really like where i was talking zenphone 9 was only 50 bucks less than zenphone 10 you could also get like an but that would be exactly the price oh really yeah because i'm only i'm only 47 over budget oh okay yeah sorry about wireless charging but i think i could get a pixel 7 is 599 right yeah i could get a pixel 7 this is 549 on the google so okay sweet so macbook air m2 uh uh, picks Bose QC earbuds to wait.

58:06Pixel seven right now for me is saying four 49. Oh, even better, even better. I mean, let's just do that. So 10 90, that's 1100 plus four 49 is 1550. Oh yeah. So that means that gives me$450 for headphones. What can I ball the hell out with? Told you. Or you could just get a two 56 gig version of the pixel seven for five 49. i guess or you could get 400 wait does that give me the money to get the extra storage on the macbook air yes oh 200 right it was 300 it was 200 i think it was 300 oh yeah macbook air yeah so how much would that make it sorry 100 bucks left for that long no way really 100 okay i'm getting a little the minimum storage so i'm just gonna go under budget i'm doing pixel 7 m2 macbook air and bose qc earbuds too okay solid lineup although i don't know if i can i should run with these because the sweat would probably be bad for them just don't run with those headphones yeah i should get gotta think about what you're gonna do like i could run with more for that price yeah i mean there's a lot of jaybirds that sound good for that price there's a lot of i'll just run with them because they probably won't die by the end of the year sure alright alright cool does out do I just said Alice how much under budget am I Adam you have 202 dollars remaining wow nicely done falling on a budget yeah closer to my number than your own dang alright should we go one more time around or do you wanna or do you give them to these two do you two wanna play this game I know it so if Ellis wants to do it what do you mean you know it you don't have a number yet I did the numbers so so it doesn't matter pick one you think you're better than us I know I want them to do it.

59:54I am better than you. I'm interested in Ellis' choices here. Yeah. Ellis is like a Handycam from 1967. Kid pics. Nintendo 3DS. Don't say that. The game or software. So Ellis can confirm$20 ,000. Damn! Ultra baller budget. I'll take a private jet. $20 ,000. The HD 880s. 880s. It's hard to spend 20 grand with three. You have to. No, it's not. Three. No, it's not. Yeah, but the problem is things are either extremely expensive or not 20 ,000 expensive. Yeah, half an Intel Mac Pro. No, no, no. Do it. Just thinking out loud, fully specced out laptop. That's six and a half right there. Okay. Right? Fully specced out 12-inch iPad Pro.

1:00:44That's another 17, 18 right there, if not another 2 ,000. Okay. Now you're it. You still got$12 ,000. left. What are you buying for 12 grand? Then get a Mac Pro. Two. No, well, if you have to have three. Four headphones. You have to have three. Yeah. Because if you get the Mac Pro, you don't have a mouse and keyboard monitor and all that. Does it not come with the... The Mac Pro comes with the mouse and keyboard. You're right. It does come with those things. It doesn't come with the monitor. I could go Mac Pro Pro Display XDR and like a pretty nice phone. Alright. No headphones? Nah. For the rest of the year, no headphones?

1:01:18The Mac Pro speakers only. Built-in Protosplay. The Protosplay doesn't even have speakers. No, it doesn't. It has something out of the tower. $6 ,000 tower,$6 ,000 monitor. All audio playing from under your desk. Foot-level audio. Really terrible mix. That would be rough, but you could spend it. I'm getting these same headphones. M50X? Or what is that? Or you have$20 ,000. Yeah, Sony MDR 7506s. How much are those? like 100 bucks 150 bucks doesn't even matter i got 20 g's i can start again airpods pro bugatti scooter and a maxed out iphone pro that's so under budget airpads pro hold on airpods pro is 550 550 and maxed out iphone 14 pro max and you're just pocketing about 18 000 absolutely no that's not part of the game no 14 no you have to spend it you barely spend you have to spend budget even if i pimp out another computer for six and a half thousand dollars get the mavic the dji mavic 3 why would he do that the rest of the year inspire spend six thousand bucks on a mavic okay what's the most expensive drone the dji drone inspire 2 what is that at let me give you a good price instead of a phone you can just fly messages to people yeah well i'm thinking phone drone pj headphones the advanced kit that shoots cinema dng is 9400 yeah give me one of those so i'm halfway there not the inspire 2 oh the kit yeah the fully advanced kit the full kit plus iphone plus headphones that's still like 1200 yeah but like what is it what is gonna get 10 000 that's what i'm saying the thing is i want i want headphones and i want a phone so then what is that third thing 20 000 that's gonna go through like a used model three why don't you just what are the sennheiser what are those sennheiser ones headphones yeah with the crazy deck ht 800 so those are two true but that's also why i got the airpods by the diamond iphone yeah the caviar iphone there we go how much was that 60 000 i think oh wait never mind you can't buy last year's caviar having more money is kind of hard that's not telling you no I could have got a sick gaming computer for that yeah I gotta get a macbook though they can game now yeah but it's only like$6 ,500 okay pimp out a macbook not if it's alienware then it's like three times the price um yeah what's a maxed out iPhone like the terabyte version pro $1 ,800 oh my god that gives me still 12 G's $14 pro max is$1 ,800 maxed out Why don't you think about one thing that's crazy expensive while Ellis goes on his budget.

1:04:11You gotta find that real flex. Bro, isn't there like a Louis Vuitton smartwatch that's like $12 ,000? Terabyte iPhone Pro Max. Is there a gold Apple Watch Ultra? Terabyte iPhone Pro Max is$1 ,600. What did you get, Ellis? I got $4 ,000. Why did you guys get all the high amounts and we didn't really get that much? I was kind of hoping to get something really low and make it work. $4 ,000 is good because you can get a pretty good laptop yeah I can get a crazy laptop and you can get a foldable if you wanted that's the crazy thing is headphones don't get that expensive until you just go into the like ultra elite ones that like come with it's own like yeah like plug into the wall the French ones your lights dim when you start listening to music yeah and it gives you a massage at the same time let me look up some prices here I got a lot of wiggle room you know four grand yeah but you can only do three things no I know my budget don't wiggle wiggle it folds my phone don't wiggle wiggle it folds 20 grand i'm gonna get a a tycan with a hundred thousand miles on it for 20 grand no way the fully specced 12 inch ipad pro that's 2200 i would i really don't want a phone you know but you kind of what if an ipad had a phone how would you get around dollar ipad doesn't have cell i assume that would be part of the accessories uh but we're all we're all getting phones and not counting the planet so then it is cellular it's like insane how important maps are 2400 okay i think i would also get an original sony a7 because i can get that for around a thousand with a lens yeah with a lens okay like the series one you probably have a cheaper i can probably hmm could i get it at fujifilm x100v for around a thousand two thousand yeah i don't think it matters what price you have for that thousand is how much the action oh no that's fine i'll do that because you're already over there no i'm not that i'm it's four thousand yeah i'm at four thousand so 20 it was 24 plus two is 44 oh no it is that's way over all right now i'll do the sony just because it's in front of me so then i have a camera the a7 ii is 450 by it now but you'd have to have a lens though yeah and i would assume the lens would be way more expensive so yeah this is a 28 to 70 fine and then i have 400 600 left wait how much is the 28 to 70 i have it listed here b and h used for a thousand that's a lot of money well it comes with the camera oh it's in a box never mind the lens comes with it and then with my last how it is with my last six hundred dollars i think i'd buy my exact phone.

1:06:54I thought you were going to get rid of it soon. Well, I can't get rid of it before September. That's true. So for now, we're bonded. But till the end of the year, you have to use this tech. So the phone else is holding is the... Oh yeah, sorry. This is an iPhone 12 mini in the beautiful purple finish. It is at 80 % battery health. I have to charge it like four times a day. Also, 64 gigabytes of memory. just in the slums with this phone and I love it. Okay, I got my answer. The Leica Q3. Oh, yeah. And there we go. Those are my three. How much is the Leica? Six grand. Six grand. I get an X2D. It's 10 grand though.

1:07:37No lenses. With no lenses? No lenses? Christ on a cross. Yeah, I don't know, man. Hasselblad doesn't have a kit lens? Nope. Nope. Anyway, well, we should get to the end which is the trivia answers and then wrap it up. So let's do that. All right. Trivia answers. So the score, Marquez with two, Andrew with one, David with five. Let's go. Question number one. What does RSS stand for? As you can see, I'm not writing anything down, which is because I wrote the answer down earlier. And I wanted you guys to know that I really did know the answer. I literally have no idea. Service, maybe.

1:08:30All right. Flip them and read. What do you got?

1:08:36I wrote watch podcasts on YouTube. But also, yes. I wrote really slow service. You got the first word right. I wrote really simple syndication. Correct. Why would you ever make the S means syndication? It's just like the way RSS works is you're just plugging into a syndicated feed that anything can look at. Not a lot of people know what syndicated means, though. At the time this was created, though, it was a pretty common thing. Early days. I'm looking up Google Trends. I got one. Syndicated. Yay, Mark has got a point. All right. Question number two. You don't seem excited. Why would I be? I'm competitive, dude.

1:09:20All right. All right. So what is the most expensive part of the iPhone 14 Pro Max? A, its display. B, its processor. C, its cellular components. Or D, its camera system. Also to everyone watching on YouTube, I don't know why the lights weren't working for that last round. They worked fine. to audio listeners they were yeah for audio listeners you just watched a flawless photo you imagined it perfectly for video listeners you know the truth video listeners for those listening with your eyeballs technically you can do that now yeah okay i wrote a display that's correct i hate this i also wrote the display that's correct i wrote the mobile network thing modem i'm sorry fun fact though yeah both the display and the processor are almost exactly the same price so i would have accepted both answers did you have to say that and you had a 50 chance of getting it right i was going purely based off of repair prices but i don't know what the repair price is for the chip because i don't think you can do that i i was hoping david could help me understand this more so when i was looking at all the like data analysis things for iphone cost of parts they list the processor and the cellular components as separate components yeah but for samsung phones they list them as the same component like it's cellular and here's i think it's because they get both of those chips from qualcomm so it's like one package deal so apple makes their own processors right right but they still use qualcomm modems yeah so they have to buy the modems from qualcomm but samsung makes their own modems uh well they used to when they had like qualcomm processors but now they also buy from qualcomm but qualcomm processors have the modem built into the processor yeah like a snap Dragon, whatever, has it built in.

Some of them are even the same instances. It just says work, work, Twitter. I have seven Arc windows. Wait, those aren't just tabs? These aren't just tabs, they're windows. Okay, here's my reasoning. Okay, just so, because I know that the ARC people watch this podcast, that's not what you're supposed to do, right? Right? Support for this show comes from Nordstrom. Oh, what fun. This was a slow week for news, but that doesn't mean we didn't have a lot to talk about. Marques, Andrew, and David kick it off talking about the Apple Vision Pro before pivoting into Google turning on RCS by default on Android. After that, they discuss two new foldables that might be coming soon and talk about the state of the foldable market in general. Then, we end it with a fun new game we're calling "Break the Budget" where the hosts need to pick three tech items without going over a given budget. It's chaotic but a ton of fun! Make sure you stick around to the end for the trivia answers as always. Enjoy!
