0:20Romesh Ranganathan:Sorry, sorry, have we started? Yeah, yeah we have started. And this guy, Romesh Ranganathan, aka The Owl. Yes, hello, welcome to the Wolf and Owl email special. This is where we just do emails. Yeah, if you're a fan of the Wolf and Owl, why don't you subscribe at YouTube and Spotify and all other platforms. All the platforms. That you get your podcasts and your vidcasts. If you want to send in an email, Wolf... What? Vidcasts. Yeah, if you want to send an email, wolfowlpod.gmail.com. I'm slightly on the back foot here because I was looking at my phone. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And you just went straight in, so.
0:52Romesh Ranganathan:I mean, that is what we're supposed to do. That's what we do. Should we do the first one? I think you should read, yeah. Dear Wolf and Al, I'm originally from the UK, but spent over 10 years living in Beijing, China. I'm going to China next week. Oh, I'm going to Hong Kong. Yeah. I don't get back home very often, so listening to you both helps me feel connected, like two brilliantly chaotic mates. Keeping me company at the gym or while I'm cooking. Anyway, on Conan's podcast, don't panic, yours is better. What a load of bollocks. The idea that our podcast is better than Conan's. By the way, I'm just reading this.
1:19I fucking love where it's going.
1:21Romesh Ranganathan:He chats with fans and even travels out to meet them. It got me thinking. if the Wolf and Al did a show where you travelled the world meeting listeners which country or city would you most hope had a fan waiting for you keep doing what you're doing the openness honest honesty oh fuck my life and general nonsense is exactly why you're the best yours the Komodo dragon oh my god thank you Komodo dragon can I just say this might be my favourite email ever how many emails do you reckon you've said that about since we started doing this 75 % yeah okay yeah but this is that's actually genuine I didn't know that Conan did this but this would be a cool thing to do I actually had an idea a while ago go on for a chat show yeah but you didn't chat to celebrities you just chatted to members of the public I'd love to do that that'd be a fun thing do you want to do that I think that would be that would be my forte we should do on the next live show of the Wolf and Al you know where we get a guest on we should just get a member of the audience can I just say I was saying I think just chatting to people is more like celebrities are somewhat guarded yeah when you just chat to I had such an amazing conversation this weekend with someone it was beautiful sounds like an anecdote no no play some anecdote music on the office no it was just you just bump into someone you start having a chat what happened though they were just a thoroughly just they worked within the pharmaceuticals and met like they so you're describing a rash no they'd studied into quite a lot of sort of like drugs that you know have had a massive impact in helping people I genuinely at first thought at this person you know I just started chatting on the train by the end of it I was like I could stay on here to Glasgow.
2:52And I don't think that would be long enough to just really delve into this human being and what they're about.
2:56Romesh Ranganathan:You didn't say that to them, did you? No, no, no. I just said, it's been an honour chatting to you. Oh, that's sweet. Gave them a sort of handshake that sort of, I almost went for a hug. They were a bit... Did you exchange numbers? No, because it's weird. No one does that anymore. I just said, look, you know, I'm on Instagram. This is where I'm at if you want to chat. Have they followed you? I don't know. I've not seen them. Speaking of pharmaceuticals, have you heard the latest about the GLP-1 drugs. What's the GLP-1 ones? Is it GLP? What are they? Oh, Zempic and all that. Oh, fuck off, yeah.
3:26What do you mean fuck off? No, just honestly, everyone just assumes that I've been doing those. Do they? Yeah. I walked past the fucking truck the other day full of fucking builders and I went, Oi, Oi, Oi, Oi, you been on the jabs, big boy? Fucking looking great, you been on the jabs? I was like, no, I haven't. No. You've not been on Zempic.
3:42Romesh Ranganathan:No. No, Manjaro. Same jabs. That's what you've been using. But anyway, go on. Apparently they weaken your bones. Really? Yeah. Oh, my God. That's what the latest is. There's a lot of, I think they're going to be a bit like vaping. I think it's dangerous. Yeah, but vaping, I think that and vaping. I think it's dangerous. That's why I stick to vaping. Yeah, yeah. You know? We know what's going to happen with that. It's fine. Yeah, bubble lung. Yeah. I'm looking forward to some bubble lung. Do you know, in India, I've sort of slightly got this attitude. In India, a lot of times I don't wear motorbike helmets because I think if it's your time to die, it's your time to die.
4:15Romesh Ranganathan:Wow. That's how I feel about vaping. it's genuine that why they don't wear them in India. Correct. I don't think that's how everybody believes, but it's like it's your destiny to die at a certain point. That's a fucking mad thing. That's the attitude. Fuck, wow. Anyway, back to the commander jagged. Anyway, that's why I like triple mango. Because when I go is when I go. Although I've got a bit of a cough or something to worry about. I've got a cough. I think my cough is vape related. Yeah, mine isn't vape related. Mind is change of seasons. Happens every time. Every time the seasons change, it really hits big T.
4:52Yeah, okay. I've got seasonal change disorder. SED? Yeah. Probably one of those two. Yeah. Very good. That was very quick. So, yeah, but you know what? There's a side of me that would love to go to Beijing and just meet the Komodo Dragon and hang out. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I think we should probably trial it first somewhere in Europe. first of all I don't want to do a show
5:16Romesh Ranganathan:where I travel the world you've done it I've never done it you're so travelled I've done nothing I think I wouldn't mind like doing a day trip somewhere I'm not going to do a day trip to Beijing but you know if we went to like Milton Keynes to meet somebody I'm not going to have to Milton Keynes to fuck it why I just think let's go somewhere a little bit more like you know Lisbon we could go there back in a day yeah okay we'll go to Lisbon but I don't think we've got any fans in this. Right. Can we just, if you're listening in Europe. Okay, look, right. Stockholm. We're actually going to make a commitment that we're going to stick to now.
5:51Romesh Ranganathan:That we're going to stick to. Yeah. That's a wolf in our handshake. Okay, fine. I'm on this. If you're in a European city that is within a, what? If we can fly there, Amsterdam, Stockholm. Somewhere like that. You know what we're talking about. If you're a fan there, we'll come and meet you. We'll do a special letter where we come and meet you. Yeah. But don't be a weirdo. How do they know that? By the way, can I just say, we use the word weirdo and the term weirdo sometimes weirdos are the greatest people you're ever going to meet I mean mentalist yeah like don't be a pervert yeah don't be a pervert or a nonce or whatever fucking hell well actually it doesn't matter it'd be awful if we travelled all the way out to fucking we travelled out to Marbella to meet a paedophile that's fucking terrible if you are a nonce the fucking they've been under fucking surveillance as we land they're arrested if you are a nonce inadvertently turns that is inviting us over because you want to fill us up.
6:44Romesh Ranganathan:I've got some good news. You're probably not a nun. Get to catch a predator. I'm knocking on the door. Who are you going to meet? Yeah, I like me. You've been texting to middle-aged podcasters, haven't you, dirty fuck? You give him little slack. We're going to let you tell your wife. Do you want us to come in and talk to your wife? No, no, no, because I'm going to lose my job. No. No, fucking. What's going on? Nothing. Nothing, Sarah. Just stay back there. Stay back there. Please don't. Please don't say anything to her. Please. You're a pair there, aren't you? No, no. I just really like them. Emailing your concerns and your worries.
7:27No, but I did have worries.
7:28Romesh Ranganathan:I was just saying, I'm just a massive Wolf and Al fan. You're going to lose your job and insurance now, mate. No, no. Rob Beckett didn't mind. I sucked him off.
7:44Romesh Ranganathan:just the idea fucking Rob Beckett going as a peanut butter and fucking millennium so I can get sucked off in an alley afterwards alright you know fuck it nah fuck it it's my beer innit fuck it well guys on tour stays on tour ok in all seriousness yeah get in touch worldfapod.com European cities come in somewhere lovely you know Malta maybe Malta's good yeah Great place. Yeah? Yeah. Cool. Yeah, all right, it's done. Well, it's not done. Somebody needs to get in touch. Okay, do you want to do the next one? Hi, Wolf and Al. Big fan of the show. And you guys. Not sure if you're aware of the Masters dinner tradition where the previous champion hosts a dinner at the tournament and chooses a menu.
8:32My question to you guys, if you were to host a dinner, what five people, dead or alive, would you invite?
8:37Romesh Ranganathan:This is quite difficult. And two, what would you serve for starter, main, and dessert beverage also let's assume that you'll you will be cooked it will be cooked for you thanks guys i look forward to hearing your answer signing out the starving squid well this is a good way of ripping off the off menu podcast without really yeah looking like we are uh they don't do guests today on there no they don't do guests they do start a main again this is another good idea for another podcast poppin arms or bread they do that as well yeah yeah i said bread and i'd still regret it yeah um okay should we do the thing on there where everything you had was fried food Yeah.
9:12Yeah. It was accidental. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Everything like that. Okay. Okay. Should we go, I say, five people, dead or alive. You say one, I say one.
9:22Romesh Ranganathan:Okay. We're not including each other in this, are we? Well, I'm just going to say. We're hosting together. Yeah, we're hosting together. Oh, so we have five people together? Yeah. Okay. Oh, do you want to do five each? I think five each would be all day. That's ten people. Yeah, yeah. No, you're right. Well done, quick maths. Yeah. Okay, so should we do five between us? I love it. Yeah, five between us. But then one of us gets an extra person. Yeah, fine. You can have the extra person. Well, let's just say Santa Claus. That's the extra person. Okay. What? Okay. Santa Claus is... I did not expect that.
9:53Romesh Ranganathan:I did not expect that. So we get two each and Santa Claus is definitely there. Fine, okay. So we get two each. Who's your first? Oh, wow. That's tricky. I'm trying to think. Dead or alive? Dead or alive. I'm trying to think of someone who's really going to get the tone and the vibe of the evening. You know what seems like quite a laugh? I met Rita Ora.
10:21Like she sings, she has a bit of a laugh.
10:25Romesh Ranganathan:I've got nothing against Rita Ora. I just was not expecting that name to come out of your mouth.
10:32Romesh Ranganathan:I wouldn't have expected that name to come out of your mouth if we're inviting only pop stars. This name begins with R. yeah I'm not going to go back on it because I've written the as soon as you say it you've written the invite you can't go back on it alright so far we've got Santa Claus Rita Ora I'm going to go Thierry Henry oh wow just because yeah yeah also by the way massive Rita Ora fan yeah but two really cool hot people who Santa Claus and Thierry Henry no but that's yeah yeah so now you know Santa Claus is at one head. Santa Claus, Rita Ora, Thierry and Ray. But two of them in red and white.
11:12Whoa, my guy. Okay. Good energy in. Good energy out.
11:26Storm. Zero sugar, 200 milligrams of caffeine, and immunity support. Storm. Energy for life. It's tough because I'm thinking... But we've got a really cool sports person there, in Thierry Henry. Santa Claus is going to be full of anecdotes. Rita Ora is great for an anecdote and a song.
11:44Romesh Ranganathan:All of Santa's anecdotes are going to be fairly similar, though, aren't they? No, they won't. The delivery issue. We hardly know anything about him, apart from fucking... Oh, come on. We don't know hardly anything about what he does for the rest of the year. Yeah, we do. One night of the year, he's delivering presents. The rest of the night, he's fucking as many elves as he possibly can.
12:04Did I tell you, Natalia, I queued for four hours to sleep with Bonnie Blue?
12:12I thought I saw those big black well-eat and boats. I should kind of...
12:17Romesh Ranganathan:They didn't realise I was the real centre. I told them I was from Debenhams. I said I was a gardener from Middleton Keynes. I gave it to her good. I was going to be so gross then, but I won't. I think that ship sailed. Santa's fucking Bonnie Blue. I think you kind of need someone sort of learned. Steve Hawkins? Yeah, I don't know. I've never heard him say, call me Steve.
12:56Romesh Ranganathan:You've got to meet him. You've got to meet him. Ray, have you met Steve? you gotta meet a really clever mate of mine Steve Steve Steve fucking Steve Hawkins Siri Rita have you met Steve
13:11um come on oh gosh
13:19uh
13:21Romesh Ranganathan:for my final one I'd probably say uh Richard Pryor oh wow greatest to ever do it oh by the way Yeah. By the way, what? Oh, the rest of the party. Yeah. Everyone else is obsolete now. He's the greatest show person. No, but that's a good combination, isn't it? It's a great combination, yeah, but it's also... Thierry Henry, Richard Pryor, Santa Claus, Rita Ora, Steve Hawkins. We've just become the waiters for the evening. I know. We are the least entertaining. But that was always going to happen. Yeah. I can imagine Richard Pryor's cracking a joke. Everyone's like them. Rita bursts into song. And Thierry says something cool and sexy and just does some kick-ups with a chicken bowl.
14:02Yeah. Just people telling Santa to shut the fuck up.
14:04Romesh Ranganathan:There we go. You couldn't get down the chimney. Yeah, it's a really busy night.
14:15Romesh Ranganathan:Yes, use magic. Okay, start a main and dessert. It's going to be slightly tricky. Well, yeah, but you know what we should do is... Because I'm plant-based and you're not. Yeah, I think we have a plant-based option. Okay, fine. So start a... I'm going to go I think a nice soup like a nice minestrone soup okay yeah yeah good yeah I'm going to go little mini soft shell jackfruit tacos what's wrong with that no no no it's actually to be fair sorry I'm not getting my eyes rolled out by somebody who said minestrone soup that's to be Heinz okay what are you doing for main main court it's hard because there's a side of me like a big spaghetti bolognese because I know that everyone would like that.
15:01Would be quite kind of nice. But then there's a pot also I know that like someone like I don't know. Minestrone soup and then spaghetti bolognese.
15:09Romesh Ranganathan:What the fucking hell's going on? With garlic bread. No, a nice big lasagna actually. Okay, fine. A nice lasagna. Yeah. Deep dish lasagna. I do one of those for Maine like a veg you know the Dalis where they've got the little silver dishes of each. Oh wow. Yeah, they're amazing. yeah weirdly I'm eating everything off your menu uh dessert um uh I would do um uh floating island where you've got the meringue for the floating custard lovely yeah that'd be nice meringue and custard yeah like yeah like the Italian meringue custard is beautiful I think the best dessert ever that's the best dessert ever I'd probably go for a vegan tiramisu okay good so there you go and then beverages oh uh drinking wise apple tizer pepsi probably for me yeah pepsi max coke zero not coke zero pepsi max why not coke zero just pepsi max is better i think it depends on your mood

16:13just pepsi max is better
16:15Romesh Ranganathan:i know that for a fact that steve prefers coke zero um you'd probably have to have something alcoholic so i probably would just sort of have like I'd probably ask David Beckham for some of his sort of wine. Do you know what we get? I'll tell you what we could get. A little margarita. Yeah, that'd be nice. A little margarita trolley. Yeah. Yeah, that'd be nice. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. And then we could invent some drinks for each guest. The margarita aura. Oh, wow. Okay, okay. Yeah, I forgot you love puns. Yeah. Who'd you get to DJ? Jaguar Skills. Oh, wow. Martin Too Smooth. Yeah. Yoda. Rod Percy would be great.
16:51Rod Percy would be great. I'd love Rod. I think, actually, you know what? I'd probably almost say Rob Percy may be in Santa Claus would be the way.
16:58Romesh Ranganathan:I would say of the full Rob Percy's the only one that you could book. Rob Percy and Santa Claus together would be such a dream. Good afternoon. Is it you or me? Good afternoon, Shaggers. Shaggers, by the way, why has that become a thing? I don't know. I love Stan. First of all, can I just say from good afternoon, Shaggers, it's a bit of a red flag for me. I love Stan. up and have noticed many acts, including yourselves on a Cine Live, introduce yourselves before going on stage. You do put your hands together on stage. We're just wondering why that's the case. Is this weird announcing yourselves in the third person and then walking out on stage?
17:34Romesh Ranganathan:Cheers, your girthy pal in body mass and not in todger size. That's Patrick's definitely below average in many ways. Tom. So why have you emailed in?
17:46Romesh Ranganathan:Okay, first thing, this person wants to be a stand-up, don't they? Yeah, of course. Of course they do. They've opened with a joke, closed with a joke. Yeah, yeah, yeah. why do we do that I mean you're very good at it because you've got that trailer voice yeah I did Rob Beckett's you did do Rob Beckett's and you did mine and yours yeah I did yours and Rob Beckett's yeah I quite enjoy it I think it sets you I think for me anyway it feels like you're set in the mood before you go on yeah and you can yeah you can have some fun with it I know it's weird but I so you're not going to have somebody that's going to come around with you to do just do the announcement bit and Graz, who's both our tour managers, both of our tour manager, is not going to do it.
18:28Romesh Ranganathan:No. So you're doing it. Basically, what you don't want is a recording because I think they know it's a recording. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so you want to just go, you know, good evening, Northampton. Are you ready for a show or whatever? Maybe. And then that's your first opportunity to get them geared up, right? Because, you know, you always do that stereotypical thing of like, I can't hear you are you ready for a good time you know whatever and then that's your first interaction with him so I think that's it's a good opportunity to get them riled up a bit I mean for me now Martin Too Smooth does it he introduces me on yeah I mean but he's so cool and he's crazy yeah like it's too much can I say something Martin Too Smooth is like are you fucking ready are you ready he's in he's literally said by the side of stage get your dicks in the air get your tits out it's Romesh Ranganathan do you know what I mean it's too much.
19:21I remember actually one of my happiest memories is of watching you standing with my tits and my dick out just waiting for you to come onto stage.
19:30It's better if you don't laugh as you're doing it just so you know. This is the difference between me and you. I don't have that ability and I know myself that it must wind people up. It doesn't wind me up. No, no, no but it winds people up I think. If I think of something funny Yeah, I know you get really excited. Yeah, but it makes me not because in the moment You start laughing before you've even said it. That's why I'd be awful on that laugh one laughing last one laughing yeah because even if I laugh at people because I find people funny right yeah I love that's not a quirk exclusive no no no but also laugh at things that I'm thinking of yeah I'm a laughing sort of chap yeah I will say that sometimes I realise that the bigness that I do like intros for people onto stage is sometimes off putting for the person who's going I just had a guy who's brilliant Lemaire Germain coming up great comedian brilliant up and coming brilliant and I was introducing him onto stage and I've done it when I've introduced you onto stage I go so big I then realise actually it must be a will juxtaposition when you come on and it's like oh shit it's such a ridiculously sized intro that's funny though
20:36Romesh Ranganathan:the mismatching energy yeah anyway hope that answers your question Shagga thank you so much for sending those emails in if you want to get in touch you can email wolfowpod at gmail.com you're a bloke you're an accountant who's just had a couple of beers with some builders that are doing work at his house.
