Did you see any of this? None of this. Yeah, and now Ireland are into the World Cup playoffs. I don't know what that means, to be honest, but I think they have a good chance of getting into the World Cup. Playoffs, different qualifiers. It's the same thing. It is different. There's a whole bunch of stuff going on. Everyone's pretending that they know what's happening, but either way, it's brilliant. Imagine, like, did you ever dream when you were younger, like, oh, you know, you're out in the backyard and it's just you and you've got a football and you're kind of mumbling to yourself and you're going oh he's coming up and he's going to score a goal and oh he's won it for Ireland he did it last night wow three goals right at the dead end of the game Troy Parrott Troy Parrott yeah I saw on Instagram that there's a parrot in Dublin Zoo yeah that they've now named Troy oh really would that be relevant did they do it today I think so yeah it's very relevant great alright we'll leave it there have you ever heard the news that our podcast name is now lame no you haven't heard about this have you heard that the term boyfriend is now lame okay yeah um it's uh been discussed and it's been written about that the term boyfriend is um lame and that um girls are shying away from it it was an article by shantae joseph right if i'm pronouncing their name correctly um but it was basically looking at a lot of um women online who center their lives around their boyfriends a little bit on Instagram.
2:01This was what they were proposing or what they were saying. And now people are going back from that because it's not cool anymore. And so instead of seeing the boyfriend or like, you know, the engagement or all that, you just see a hand. Oh. Or you just see a foot. Yes. Or, you know, he's kind of, he's kind of helping, but he's not there. So you keep yourself center. But do you, what do you go for? Do you normally, and then like people are talking about like boyfriend as a term and stuff. But obviously you're going to be using boyfriend twice right so do you say do you say a partner the gang um i would say more so now we say partner partner feels like i don't know like a life long locked in kind of it feels more serious and it's not just even romantic it's like it's your part it's your number two like you're the person that looks after if you end up in hospital who's going to help?
3:02You mean your partner would help but you'll be waiting on your boyfriend to come along? Well it's not as guaranteed it's not as committed I don't know So when do you turn when does a boyfriend evolve into a partner? I don't know I think it's like partner feels a bit more your lives are a bit more intertwined that you're I don't know you share rent or you have bills together you have like life things intertwined your families are linked up and you're committed like going along together in life together as partners as a little duo boyfriend girlfriend is a bit feels a bit maybe softer it's fun and light but it's not maybe as locked in.
3:47But I quite like being a boyfriend. It makes me be giddy, you know? I know, it is fun. Do you know what I mean? But would it make sense after five years? Six years, here's my boyfriend. It's a bit light, no? No, can't we just have fun? No. No. To lock it in. You know what I mean? Like, can't it just be nice? I know. I think it feels a bit gentle, a bit light. Unserious. For some people, yeah. A partner is a bit more locked in. But partner then a little bit to me feels a little bit like, you know, sleeping at either edge of the bed. Oh, yeah. Like her. Do you know what I mean? You've been going for too long.
4:25Yeah, yeah. I know. Like business partner. Like it's a little bit newspaper-ish, isn't it? Yeah. It's not as silly and fun. One I can't go for. I don't like life partner. Yeah. That's like, that's business. Yeah. Life partner sounds like we've entered into an agreement. They love in England saying my other half. Mother half. Oh, God. Do you know what I don't like either? I don't like my better half. Oh. Oh, my better half. Because you're actually suggesting that they're not better. No, no, no. Somehow. Like as in it's a big joke. They couldn't possibly be better than you. Oh, God. There's a lot in my, one of my jobs, in my like more serious like office-y job, there's a lot of people there I can't tell if they're LGBT.
5:11My judgment has been all over the place. I can't tell who's who and everyone says partner and I'm like tell me a bit more about this partner and it's all vague and I can't tell who's Do you have any kind of go-tos? I've been so wrong I've been full out talking to a few people 100 % convinced homosexual and then it comes out about the wife or the girlfriend I'm thrown around In comes Elaine I have no idea But have you do you have some go-tos to try and fish? No No, but like, no. All right, well, let's do a little thing, right? I work with you. You're convinced. Ask me some questions. I would just say something like, I would drop in like, oh, I was at the Divine at the weekend.
5:59Oh, yeah. What do you think about that? And if there's complete silence, they don't know what that is. Maybe they're going like, you know, they might not be, you know, broadcasting it. And they might be like, I don't know what that is. Maybe. in 2025. How would you go a bit stronger than that? I don't know. I would drop in. I might mention my, I would say boyfriend then, maybe. Or I would say he, I would often say like, he works here or something and see. What do you think about that? I like that your face is doing like, he works somewhere. How do you feel about that? How do you feel about that?
6:37But yeah, I've been wrong lately. There's a lot, I think that's just my kind of stupid perception of people. What do you think that your perception is kind of? I think out and about as well. I meet so many people in the public and I'm getting it quite wrong because there's a lot of variety now that wasn't there before. It's not so clear. Do you know what scares me? Which is great, actually. Do you know what really scares me? It's misgendering pets. Oh. That is actually terrifying. And I don't really know what you can... It's very hard to... It's actually quite simple, right? Like with people, you're just going...
7:13you go you go like you just go for a day and you know like and then if they want to clear up after that fantastic right but like with a dog yes the people want you to know what gender it is yeah like you can't say they for the labrador like they're like it's a shame oh but if you go oh he's lovely it's a shame do you think you can tell i'm not very good at recognizing the parts could you tell from my face imagine that go on just meeting someone in the park oh one second there he is lovely but they get put out am I wrong is there more male dogs than girl dogs I feel like most dogs are male is that awful to say most dogs are male do you think there's more why do you say that do you see more I feel like I meet more male dogs do you know I think there's something Do you think there's more male dogs born?
8:10Can the listeners tell us? Isn't it that the majority of ginger cats are male? Are they all male or something? George is male. Yeah, I think they're all... I'm looking after George this week. You are. My friend's cat. In the most Mark Teacocks way ever, on your calendar, full of stuff, your reminder for looking after the cat is the cat emoji. That's it. Yeah. I actually thought it was a secret code when I saw it first. I was like what the hell is that for I was like it's morning and night what is that kept that up yes yeah every morning every evening I'm going to see George and having a little play time and he has a little fish on a string you wave that around he's lonely he's there in the house his dad has gone away you're warming to George me and George bonded there a few days ago he came in for a cuddle and he sat and this has been coming at me on TikTok all the time but he sat with his face away from me which means he's like trusting you and he's comfortable with you I can let the guard down a bit he's not looking at you waiting to be attacked I told my cat 3 o 'clock in the morning last night to shut the fuck up yes I woke up telling him that it was just out before and the cat the cat was mid meow and was like like sit and I want to peep off him he knows what's going on he knows what's going on you gotta keep an eye on him I've still never slept over in that house with George does he sleep in the bed?
9:43he licks the face in the night sniffing the lip as well I can't stand it so what part of your face would he lick? oh into the mouth he would yeah he licks your mouth he'd lick everything how did he start doing that not me his owner his dad he'll definitely lick you in the mouth I think he would yeah so no quick visit and then lock the door my biggest worry is I'm going to open the door he's going to run out the door yeah and is the house in a busy place like if you ran out is George gone um he'd be gone yeah he'd be gone so I'm walking in you know when you're like putting the foot in and you're oh maybe slithering in the door twisting around the fucking stressful and if you opened the door and wanted him to go he wouldn't go out he's not an outside cat right he doesn't go out at all no no no he stays in so that's quite a lot of stress which is very good don't you have to go over minding his cat well you have to do these things for your friends for your friends now would that oh you have another question would that be a boyfriend or a partner I don't know a cat good friend now you're fixing the fringe sorry what's happening there's a huge grey hair there's a huge one Mark is just picking a mass of grey hair we've had an awful exciting week we have we had our celebrity guest last week Juno Birch she's a proper celeb though isn't she she's a celeb and we talked so much she's going to be talking again at the end of this episode or after the break because we were yamming her on their phone.
11:28Duh. We couldn't fit it all in one episode. You were blushing. I was, yeah. She has a presence, doesn't she? She's very lovely. She's very captivating. Very, very stylish, glamorous. Like, everything is just gore the coat. But you know what I like about her? She's a big deal, right? She's a big deal. But she kind of just makes you feel very at ease. Like, it's all a bit of a laugh. Yeah. You know? She's very... I think if I was as, you know, as busy and as... as big as she is I'd probably be a bit more of a monster I think she has reached a level where she is she's done everything like she knows everyone and she's around all these huge stars she's gone over that and she's come back around and she's just so down to earth and she's just out there and working and yeah she was so nice very good yeah you were blushing you were I saw you very glamorous woman she is um i loved her shoes oh my god i loved everything and the amount of people who've like messaged and stuff and like the love because she kind of she's across she's across like a video game world youtube world and then drag drag world she's one of the only drag queens i would say who is in that huge global drag world without having been on drag race yeah but it doesn't matter.
12:56Like she's, I think she's more well known than many, many people that's been on Drag Race. She's kind of come through on a different path. So yeah, she's a lot of fans, a lot of love. But you know, she's our guest. And it's all about me again. Must have been hard for you, was it? Oh, spot. I actually liked the crew we had in as well, behind the camera. Oh yes. I did like the crew that we had in. That added a little bit of, you know, Saturday morning TV to it, didn't it? Oh the giggles I think those people Giggling on TV I think they're told To do that They are Yeah But our ones were genuine But the ones And I specifically think We should be referencing Could you give an example Of that scenario A scenario On a TV show Oh yeah 100 % A guy is preparing A turkey for Christmas Yeah And he said I can barely get my fingers in there And the whole place collapses And there's one Particular Probably director laughs so hard and then they try and reset and stuff and they know that's going to be a clip and they go oh I've never got the giblets out before some of this stuff doesn't even make any sense and they start laughing our ones though our people they were laughing because it was genuine yeah which I was she's very funny she could say anything anything she's funny anything the yeah a few things we had to cut out yeah a few things were edited out one thing was edited out but in a bonus episode I enjoyed it what about me what about you Mark did you feel a little do you know when I was 20 I think I was 22 when my nephew was born and I was holding the baby and my mother said behind me to a neighbour he's been very put out you were I was 22 yeah 22 no fuss about you anymore no I had been replaced and my mother said I wasn't coping and I was 22 years of age hungover with a baby.
14:57But yeah there we have it. I feel like we've we've kind of who can we have next? We do actually have someone already booked in. We do have someone booked in. Oh a homosexual. We do have someone booked in. A homosexual is coming through the door in about a month's time. Bursting through the door. Or sooner. Give me a little taster on this person. Oh very sexy. Very sexy. Often takes his top off for no reason. to promote comedy gigs. Lovely. Which we like. Okay. Very funny. Has been around for a good while, but looks 20 years old somehow. Love it. Like yourselves. Someone who I used to be very jealous of and realised there's no need.
15:33Because now you're so famous. There's plenty room for everybody. And our podcast is huge. Yeah. It's easier to be humble when you're famous, isn't it? He might cancel now, so we won't. Yeah, we won't be. Say too much. I have to get someone else to fit that match. I have to tell you about my movie. Go on. last week I'm sorry can I just say are you on a bit of a movie buzz well I'm having cozy dates you're a cinephile I'm having cozy dates cozy dates and you know what we might cozy dates yeah same yeah same person mostly yeah interesting cozy dates interesting sometimes cozy dates in the cinema we've been going to the everyman cinemas how much would a cinema ticket cost yet oh 500 pounds I'd say 30 pounds Oh the panic Something stupid The panic of myself And Lisa go And she's going Will we get a combo Yeah A combo 25 pounds Fucking hell But in the every man You don't do anything You sit down On a couch Do they have beds in there They have big couches You could call it a bed Yeah And They bring all the stuff down So you can have pizzas And you can have And they'll give you like sweets But They'll be in like a little glass dish seven pounds a ramekin popcorn and yeah food like food coffee I had a coffee in the cinema the other night coffee would be nice ten o 'clock did I tell you about did you ever see the George Clooney is it Nespresso I think it might be Nespresso is it Nespresso the Nespresso ad before a movie no and he's just drinking it and like this this sound of it but there was a cinema in Mallow and it was broken so every time george clooney would come on it was this screaming noise would come on for an espresso so instead of it being like boom it would be like people braced themselves for george clooney to come up like people are malo have a completely different relationship with george clooney because of this because it was so terrifying but this sounds like a lovely experience oh it's very nice they bring down all the only thing i'd be scared of right because there is a cinema in london somewhere that has beds in it yeah and i'd be afraid that a couple of lads start throwing m &ms this year or something, you know?
17:43Yeah. I think you were probably going somewhere else there. A lot of wanking. A lot of wanking, yeah. The beds. But this was at home and we watched The Irish Wish. An Irish Wish. Do you know about this? No. This is Lindsay Lohan. I do know about this. Is American. I do know about this. And she works for what I would describe as an awful man who is an author and his name is Paul Kennedy. a lovely Irish we know about 20 don't they look like little bumholes the little crisp that you're about to enjoy if you're on the YouTube you can see a little crisp and it looks really like a little bumhole and they are quite they're actually I would say quite sphinctry you know what I mean and it's kind of a very in there a fairly
18:30go on it's a bumhole that's had a great time yeah and it's salty sometimes salty you enjoy that Lindsay Lohan she works for this man and he writes books but the secret is she's actually writing the books for him and then she fancies him and he doesn't fancy her blah blah blah and then they go to Ireland because he's getting married and she sits on a fairy chair on a magical chair a wishing chair and she makes a wish to St Bridget and can I cut in? Yeah and then a woman from Fair City pops up there is a man from Fair City Pavel or whatever his name was in Fair City works in a bookshop he gets a three minute little is there a witch in this?
19:10am I thinking of the right one? There's a St. Bridget. I don't think she was in Fair City. Is there another one with Lindsay Lohan? So Lindsay Lohan, every movie Lindsay Lohan is in, she falls down, she hits her head, she has amnesia, or she gets pushed into someone else's body. There's always a twist, and she ends up in a situation, and she's like, I don't know what's going on. Yeah, it's like Robert De Niro in gangster movies. Every time. So this one, she makes a wish, and she wakes up. Her wish was that she could get married to Paul Kennedy. and her wish comes through and she wakes up and she's getting married to Paul Kennedy.
19:43But there's always a twist because the St. Bridget is like, you can wish for what you ask. You can get what you ask to wish. The wish mightn't be, but you know all that. Is St. Bridget wearing a green dress? She has a nice dress and she has a little granny kind of headscarf over her head and she's always looking over her shoulder like this. And the devil are the dancing around the... Because there's an Irish witch or St. Bridget that appears, but... she is in fact wearing traditional Indian dress. No, not this one. What movie? Are you sure? This is recent now. This is like a couple of years ago.
20:18What's the other Irish movie that came out? What's the other one? I don't know. Oh, it's like the wispy wispy something or whatever. No. Ah, crap. But anyway, she gets married to him but then she realises she thought she wanted to get married to him but she doesn't actually like him. But the whole thing is filmed in Westport, County Mayo. And they're... Great And they're walking around the town And it's like Proper On the streets of Westport I don't know how I didn't know this Must be an absolute commotion Commotion When she was up there And all the neighbours And all the locals And you can really tell The actors Who were brought in from America And then there's a couple of locals Working in the shop And something Yeah They're pawing the camera Big old male Breathing onto the camera Like Looking over Going How are you?
21:03How are you? It's actually not that bad it's not that bad it is it's not the worst I thought it would be worse like the it's probably better when you're getting a handjob excuse me
21:18like I missed 20 minutes that's you know this Lindsay Lohan she hit her head again after improving something fierce but then she wished for something else oh I don't know I can't remember she married someone else anyway but yeah Westport County Mayor looks lovely in the alright I pop up as a genie right in Westport County Mail yes two wishes you're not getting three you're getting two no trickery two wishes to Mark T. Cox what are they? a bit of peace a bit of peace okay granted and
21:54another handjob I've loads of handjobs okay like it's very it's very boring but I'd love just money in the bank that constantly tops up without me having to do anything for it. A nice bit of money. How much in the money, how much in the bank at the end of the week do you want in there when you check the ATM? I want£500 ,000. No, that's not that much. Every week. No, just always there. Oh, it stays there. It never gets lower than£500 ,000. So the day that I think, I wish I'm going to go on a holiday, £10 ,000, and it's not a big dent. Yeah, yeah. Do you know? Yeah, no, I get you. Steady 500 My friend won the lottery How much?
22:3980 ,000 That's nothing though Yeah well But it's It's not too bad You go through it No no yeah He did He did He spent a whole lot Yeah Taxis and Taxis and Chinese takeaways Jade Palace Jade Palace won the lottery in Cork 80 ,000 How much is the How much is the dinner From Jade Palace? Well you see he used to get rice And noodles Because he lost his mind 30 quid 30 quid We worked it out someone didn't believe me and I'll do the maths for you if you want. Over two years getting taxis into town and Chinese takeaways 80 grand gone. But he said one of the strangest experiences for him was like they just lodged it into your bank account.
23:17Yeah. You went into the ATM? Sure I got my money for my shoulder. You never mentioned that. I got a bit of money for that because I broke someone crashed into me. I was ploughed into against my will. I've been using that joke on stage for many months now. You never mention this. When I tell it again I got ploughed into against my will which normally I wouldn't mind I won't tell you how much but it felt like a loss and it really wasn't because I had a few bills and debt and a tax bill to pay and it's gone gone disgusting but I've for the first time in my life not owed money to the UK government that's lovely until January coming around again yeah probably wouldn't mention too much take a little break we will we're going to hear more from Juno in a minute The thing is I don't do as much blue alien drag nowadays.
24:10I'm just doing this myself. Because you're a comedy star. Doing stand-up. So it's so much easier now to get ready. There's no stress of I need two hours to paint myself. When did you do your first comedy gig, not blue? Bristol. Yeah. And it was on tour. I was supposed to be in drag. Yeah. And I got to the venue and there was a heat wave and there was a thermometer on the wall. And I said, oh, please have AC. And I got in and it was over 40 degrees inside the venue. And I said to the tour manager, there is no way that I'm getting in drag for this. And it was really nervous because people paid for a ticket to see me like that.
24:55And I was like, but this is a hazard. I'm going to keel over during the show. um so i just did it in my caftan with a bird's nest on my head and i was and i loved it it was so liberating and it was i find it a lot easier to write comedy as me like this because i felt like when i was writing stand-up comedy as an alien i kind of felt like i had to tap into that all the time but i did um i was the reason it happened in my head was because i've started doing more like straight comedy clubs not just like queer venues so when i do it i'd rock up in in in full blue alien with like all of the like really normal looking comedians i'd be like oh god no i'm gonna frighten everyone i'd have to walk on stage and be like right i know what you're all thinking what the fuck is that and i'd have to constantly explain the concept in a way and i and i kind of feel a bit like i've done that for so many years now that blue alien i'm not quitting it that face will always be there yeah and like in my sculptures and stuff but i just really love just being myself at the moment it's funny though with audiences unless you address it they won't really listen to you you know like if you're going up there as blue they're going oh it's blue yeah that's blue alien and then you say i'm a blue alien they're like you know it's because we go up with irish accents like especially in england and we'll go up and Whatever it is, yeah, get it out.
26:23Yeah, yeah. And then move on. I did this, when I was doing the Dublin show in the Sugar Club, so many people were just shouting out all the time. But I couldn't understand anybody's accent. But I felt really bad because at one point I just went, right, I can't understand a word. All I can hear is, herdy, herdy. And I just went, I just went, I feel like I'm watching The Muppets. To be honest, you know, we've been here a few times and I have seen when I've said something and you're very politely looking back at me going, no idea what he's just said. not a clue oh yes oh lovely yes what's your um i would say like if you go to a regular old straight comedy club you're already five times more glamorous and exciting as you are so like i think you have the upper hand immediately but like what's your what what do you say what's your first line on stage do you have like a i think when i did the stand i just walked on and people started laughing straight away because i think i was wearing i had like a chicken handbag and i had like crocs on and some kind of supermarket sheet wrapped around me and i just walked on in my sunglasses and people were already giggling i just went i know what you're all thinking you're thinking what the fuck is that and i just opened with that yeah because i just wanted them to feel comfortable because i think sometimes in straight comedy clubs when they see a drag queen get on stage some people go like that yeah because they think i'm gonna come after them straight away yeah i did a bit of a weird gig when i was on tour we toured europe for the first time and i was really worried about some countries and the sense of humor luckily it was like paris was really good i was expecting that to be quiet yeah but one of the places that was really really quiet was oslo and it was just it was like at one point I just stopped and just went is everyone okay?
28:14It was so awkward but I think it was because it was such a small audience. And you had Dublin the week before screaming. It was a bit weird. But the people in Oslo do you think they had a great time? Just weren't expressing it. It was weird because I knew they were enjoying the show but instead of laughing they were clapping and going woo like this and it was just strange because I'd just come off of doing the whole American tour and Americans, I love doing shows in front of Americans. So it's just a bizarre juxtaposition. I was like, oh. Where are you going next? Oh. I'm going to Koh Lipe. What's that?
28:55Not for work. Where's that? I'm going to have a holiday. It's an island near Malaysia. Oh. It's owned by Thailand. Oh. And they've never been along. Have you been there? Oh, wow. Have you been to Kulipay? Oh, we need to get all your advice and everything. Give me the vision. Floaty, floaty dresses. Lots of caftans. Yeah. I'm going to get one of those scooters and go through the market. Yeah. Now, is it like bougie resorts or like Humble Town? Well, we booked two different places. Yes. We booked the first one, which is like, I say shack, but don't be alarmed. It's not like a shat. It's like a hut.
29:35Beach hut. On the beach. And then the second, and we booked one that's high up in case there's a tsunami. Yeah. And then the second one, we booked the mountain resort, which was also high up in case there's a tsunami, but that's more bougie. Oh my God. Lovely. I'm so, the first time we'd been on holiday without it being. Work. About me. Yeah. In like eight years. Wow. And now would you switch off? would you just turn off the phone and the camera and just yeah yeah well i do that quite a lot really i disappear from social media quite a lot yeah and i need to stop doing that because what happens is things build up and messages get build up and everything but sometimes i just i don't feel like going online yeah because if you go somewhere like that it's so tempting to start doing the photo shoots i start can you imagine me in a private pool you'd never stop i'd never stop Never stop.
30:31And you're like, this is exhausting. Remember when you went to Portal? What should I do in Portal? Non-stop. Yeah. Well, I just wanted to show it off. Inside in the hotel room, remember? Oh, I do like a little photo shoot in a hotel room. I do. There is going to be photos. With the fans. We want to go to Monkey Beach. Have you been to that? They're probably still there. You better remember because I need to ask you many questions. But I want to go see the Monkey Beach. but I'm scared because I don't go anywhere without wearing my bird's nest. I feel like the monkey's going to start pulling on it.
31:06It's fun to play with. What are the monkeys like? They'd go for a grab. If you get your mobile phone out, apparently they will nab it. Oh, they've been taught to rob phones, haven't they? No. Have they? Yeah. They have? Sounds like something you saw. on GB News.
31:32Oh, you can't even watch GB News. No, I think that's true. It is true. No, and then bring them back. I'm telling you right now, right? They tell him to rob people's handbags. I am telling you, and they ring people on it in charge. Oh, wait, now you're thinking of this. No, yeah, I am. But if I had a monkey, I could definitely teach it to rob a phone. Do you think so? 100%. Oh, my God. No, they do. They rob the phones, bring them back to the person, and then they give them a chance. Not all monkeys. Can we... What is it? Okay, look, I'm not saying all monkeys do it, all right? Blankers. I know, yeah, yeah, I know.
32:06Not all monkeys. Oh my God, be careful. Just... Watch, you'll see a video on him scramming me running down the beach with all my birds. And I'm like, ah! Monkey on a phone next year. On the kayak, like, walking. Do you have anything you want to tease them with? Any treats? Treats? I don't think I'm going to be at all next year. Good. But what I am going to do is I'm going to go and live in LA next year for about a month. Wow. And I just want to do like comedy clubs and get into comedy clubs and stuff like that. It almost feels like starting again. Yeah, that's great. So I'm going to do that next year.
32:46And to be able to do some random thing on a midweek, there's not such pressure to make everything really, really important and valuable you could just turn up to any old thing and see how it feels because you're not there come do my comedy night I would love to he's a great show we have a really cool comedy night I would love to it's under a bridge it's glamorous it is it's a sellout it's better than that it's under a bridge come do my comedy night it's under a bridge it's in Brixton it's very good it is very good yeah there's monkeys there that steal your phone so you gotta watch out LA do you know I've never been to I love LA.
33:23Go to Jones on 3rd. Have you been there? I worked. Sorry. I just had a clue. A word you said. Let me just crank up my THs. Go to Jones on what? 3rd. The street. 3rd. 3rd. Jones on 3rd. Do you know what? Go wherever you want. Go to everyone. Fuck off. Go to Jones. Does anyone know where Jones on 3rd is? 3rd. Well, it's on 3rd and it's called Jones. It's lovely. Breakfast place. Ah, right. Okay. Really, really nice. Nice. We did some advertising for them at one point. They gave us a free jumper. I need to do that more, you know. Oh, you do. I need to push more. Like, does anyone want to give me free this?
34:02And you just wave it around for a minute. What's your absolute favourite place to go in LA? If you want to have a little coffee. Oh, like a night out? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Have a little sit down. Or it can be a night out. There's a place in WeHo that's really, really nice. and I don't know the name of it, but it's like a little courtyard thing and they have the misters. Oh, yeah. And how's the LGBT in LA? What's the scene? Oh, it's chaos. It's raving. It's fabulous. I haven't explored, like I haven't had many nights out in LA when I've been there. Yeah. But I've been to Mickey's quite a few times and been on a random nights out round WeHo.
34:46Yeah. And it's fabulous. And are you performing in the queer places Or are you going to slip into the I have no idea Not even booked it yet Not even sorted anything out I'm just going to go I'm just going to see what happens But I find that when I'm there Or when I'm on the west coast of America I'm really productive But when I come back to the UK It's just sun though isn't it It's so grey It has to be Half of me today is dead like honestly it is like I woke up this morning and I was just like I can't we need to shake ourselves but it's just so awful yeah and then they do the thing with the clocks oh it's and just end us all together like but I feel like you know like everyone is trying to make us and well yeah but even if even if you're faking that behaviour it still lifts other people up like in the UK where I was like oh god like everyone's moaning but I think that's the thing though British people we we communicate through moaning so when you're in America and you're British they're like is she okay I'm just you know I'm not actually complaining it's just can I say something controversial please sometimes I think people who do drag love complaining don't look at me oh yeah when you see them when they're like when they've got one gig one gig and they're like oh god I've got to get in drag again and it's do you mean like that?
36:20I can't well I just said it but I shouldn't say it because I don't do it but the way you came in so excited you're so full of like let's go I'm so happy. What me? Yeah you're great some people are just and I think in comedy as well there's like and I feel like in LA people would be like let's go let's have a great time. I think I think I find that especially in LA people will say things that's necessary only when it's necessary whereas in the UK I think we just small talk a lot so I feel like in in the US it is yeah people do stay quiet I think do you think we small talk ourselves around to complain then like we talk so much we're like I've nothing left I'm gonna start I think I think British people are just more anxious yeah we're just naturally but in it and when I was in LA it was fun because like somebody walking their dog and you might be talking and then they go where's that accent from oh and you're like oh hello you know it's like really chirpy and nice and whatever but like if you hear that over here where's that accent from you're you're dead like you know like you know they want you out like you know it's they want you out yeah it's not gonna go well like yeah well let's let's try and be the ones to change this we're gonna be sometimes especially in comedy you go into a green room and it can be a lot of men and they're oh my god it's cool to be it's like but you come but also you come in I think especially I think it's more of a London thing as well though you'll come in and you say how are you and they'll say I'm good how are you and I'm like oh like how was your day oh it was good how was yours like done but up north it's like oh god I've just stood in dog shit I'm just telling like there's a story always yeah but I love that I can get in on that but I had to learn over here to like not actually tell like in London keep it up yeah Not actually say how you are Yeah Oh I do People are I drive people up the wall Because I don't show up That's what we like But people then here Think you're a little deranged Yeah Because you come in You go oh it was your day And go it's completely shit Like I'm having the worst day I've ever had And they're like oh okay And then they start moving towards the door And they're done Yeah Like bring the mood down Right before a comedy show Where I don't Yeah But I find that Doing drag shows The green room is very different Than the green room At a stand up show Yeah Because I did the stand and everyone was like ordering food and sitting down and having like cups of teas in the drag room in the drag shows it's like shots shots yeah is it more performative still like do people switch off you know when they're in the green room like or it depends I think if it's a nightclub people people are usually just keep the energy it really depends I think I think in like drag and cabaret and stuff you're you have to you have to lift yourself up like you have to be on a bit of a buzz because it's probably very late at night and you need to try and get up to the energy of the crowd but in comedy it's probably 8 o 'clock and maybe you're kind of coming in after work and you do your 10 minutes and you're gone you don't have you ever done drag?

39:28no but like I'm in I'm adjacent I'm around the side of it like sometimes aside I'm just playing piano I know, for someone who is like standing in front of me. But I think in comedy, you kind of don't mingle as well. There's not really any sense of meeting the people. I don't think they can mingle. Yeah, it's kind of get on stage, be really funny for 10 minutes and then gone. And then run off. But in drag and clubs and stuff, you're a bit more inclined to be maybe outside having a smoke and kind of mixing with people. So you have to bring yourself up to be. And be on. To be on, yeah, to be fun.
40:01When I did The Stand, the host of that show was cracking me up so much. It was like this older gay guy. And he was just, when other people were on the stage, he would whisper things into my ear while I was on the stage and I'd just be like trying not to laugh. Because there was this woman that kept walking through the audience in high heels and it was really loud in the comedy club. And she just walked in front of me and sat down and he just leant over, didn't he? And went, fucking whore. Okay, that's the end of that now. Thanks for listening to Your Internet Boyfriends. Denis and Mark are celebrating the return of the iconic Juno Birch to the podcast, catching up on her latest adventures and the wild world of monkeys stealing phones.
This week, Denis tries to explain Ireland’s sudden football glory to Mark including Troy Parrott’s hat-trick and a parrot in Dublin Zoo who’s now somehow part of the story. We also unpack whether “boyfriend” is officially lame, when someone becomes a “partner,” and why office small talk has turned into a full-time sexuality guessing game.
Meanwhile, George the cat is testing everyone’s patience with attempted mouth-licking and the constant risk of escape. Denis shares the terror of misgendering pets (“owners get very offended”) and Mark reveals his cat-sitting technique that basically involves slithering through a doorway like a break-in.
We also cover:
- Wish the Lindsay Lohan box office smash
- misjudging in the office
- subtle (and not subtle) ways to “fish” for information
- pet gender etiquette and why dogs are apparently all male
- George’s lonely boy era and his fish-on-a-string routine
- the stress of cat-sitting in a busy London neighbourhood
- Denis blushing
- Saturday-morning-TV crew giggles
- cinema dates, £30 tickets, and bougie popcorn
- Everyman cinema beds, pizzas and £7 sweets
- George Clooney ruining movie intros with his broken Nespresso ad
