In short

Nikki LaRose guest-edits a “Buy vs Skip” summer 2026 makeup guide focused on humidity-proof, smudge-proof, long-wear makeup—especially foundation, blush, eyes, eyeliner, mascara, and long-wear lips.

Guest background

Nikki LaRose is a professional makeup artist and “internet’s favorite professional makeup tester,” known for her YouTube buy-or-skip series (including ranking top Ulta/Sephora bestsellers) and for product testing plus application tips. She collaborated with BK Beauty on the Massive Volume 2 Pro Artist brush sets.

Key claims

  • For longevity in hot, humid weather, avoid thick layers; build makeup in lots of thin layers.
  • Press/stipple foundation into skin (don’t swipe) to improve adherence and reduce sliding.
  • No eyeshadow is truly foolproof without proper eye primer.
  • Cream/liquid blush can slide unless you press it in and lock it with powder.
  • For oily eyelids, tubing mascara and proper priming help; eyeliner may still need powder setting.

Notable examples/products mentioned

  • Dior Forever Skin matte (favorite for oily skin); Estee Lauder Stay-in-Place (liked by host, but Nikki disliked the reformulation for oil/separation); Chanel La Tint Eau de Tint; Estee Lauder Double Wear.
  • Bronzer: CL Sculpt and Protect (SPF 30); Rare Beauty sculptor/bronzer discussion; Makeup by Mario enhancer (powdering tip).
  • Blush: Westman Atelier cream blush; YSL Make Me Blush Bold Blurring Blush (24-hour claim); Rare Beauty liquid blush; Rare Beauty blush praised for pigmentation/blendability.
  • Eyes: MAC Paint Pots; Makeup by Mario liquid eyeshadows; NYX Epic Ink liner; Sephora retractable liners; Hourglass tubing mascara; L’Oréal Lash Paradise (gold tube).
  • Lips: Kofi lip oil stain; Dior liquid lipstick; Sephora Collection liquid lipsticks; Maybelline SuperStay tint (Teddy shade).
  • Urban Decay All Nighter reformulation: Nikki says skip.

0:21Nikki La Rose:Hello and welcome back to Breaking Beauty podcast and we're back in your feeds. That's right. And this is Carlene Higgins and I'm Jill Dunn and we are the co-hosts of Breaking Beauty. We've been in your feeds for nine years now talking about the breakthrough people, products and moments in beauty every single Wednesday. We've got an episode in store that is like the handshake emoji between your makeup and the hot summer heat. By popular demand, an incredible makeup artist joining us, Nikki LaRose. I'm so happy to be here. And by the way, Nikki, we have to let you know that you were put on our radar from our audience.

0:56Because people watched our episodes on YouTube and they said, you have to have Nikki LaRose on your podcast. She's amazing at reviewing products. And we were like, we're on it. So here we are sitting together in this room. I had no idea. Thank you for joining us.

1:11Nikki La Rose:No, I'm so excited. I had no idea. I have to thank my community. So everyone needs to follow Nikki LaRose on YouTube. And if you're not familiar, since launching our YouTube channel just five years ago, which is honestly such an achievement, Nikki has become the internet's favorite professional makeup tester. Whether she's ranking the top 50 bestsellers at Ulta or Sephora, her buy or skip series that I think have become really popular as well, breaking down common makeup mistakes, she is the ultimate no-gatekeeping internet friend to have. Nikki's expertise is so sought after that her collaborations with BK Beauty, specifically the Massive Volume 2 Pro Artist Series, This is an eight-piece professional brush set, everybody.

1:55They're holy grails amongst the YouTube girlies out there. She's not just talking about products. She's actually showing tips and tricks on how to use the products as well. So we love that.

2:05Nikki La Rose:So really, she's the perfect guest editor to join us in this very special, damn good summer makeup guide. We're going to be talking about her favorites for humidity-proof makeup, smudge-proof, and long wear foundations. That's right. If it's your first time joining us because you found out about us through Nikki, we have a catalog of more than 450 episodes. We are two longtime magazine beauty editors, turned beauty podcasters who had people like Hailey Bieber on the show, Makeup by Mario, Bobby Brown, the list goes on. Yes. And as usual, we're going to list every single product that we mentioned over on our website at BreakingBeautyPodcast.com.

2:41Nikki La Rose:Welcome to the chat, Nikki LaRose. Thank you so much for having me. I got to tell you, I am so excited. This is going to be so fun. So let's get into it. When we're talking about summer makeup, let's start with foundation. I mean, this is probably everybody's biggest challenge. And I noticed that now when it comes to long wear, the claims have gone over the top. Like there's eight hour, there's 12 hour, there's 24, 30 hour. It's kind of crazy. So tell us from your point of view, like what starts happening to makeup throughout the day when it's dealing with humidity? And then what are like, what's the go-to for you in terms of a summer foundation?

3:20So I think that with summer makeup and with like heat, humidity specifically, you have to go into it and decide, do I want to feel like more fresh and more radiant? Do I not want to feel like the weight and the impact of makeup on my skin as I'm wearing it in like 90 degree hot, humid weather? Like if that's the goal, then there's like a different route to take. But if the goal is to have the utmost longevity, then it's a whole separate set of rules. And it's a completely different mindset going into that. So I think that the most helpful thing to establish is figuring out which lane are you going to be in.

3:57Nikki La Rose:Today, let's pretend we're in the longevity because we're really looking at what makeup is going to take you like from dusk to dawn. Right. That is not going to. Jill always says that her makeup, her skin eats her makeup. It's the worst. Yeah. So what would be good for that, that longevity? So longevity, you know, it's not going to be one particular product that is going to solve everything. And I think that that's like the number one question I get asked on a regular basis is like, what's the best for this? What's the best for that? And I wish it was that simple. It was like, oh, I could tell you for a certain like this is the best powder that's not going to move that every skin age and skin type and aesthetic is going to love.

4:39But there isn't a one size fits all answer. And like the hard truth and some people don't want to accept this the hard truth if you want your makeup to last from 6 a.m to 10 p.m and you're out in the hot heat and humidity you have to be incorporating lots of thin layers yeah so it's not about slapping on the thickest full coverage 24 hour 36 hour wear foundation and like packing it on that the more you pack on a thick layer of one product the more it's going to slide off your face yeah so when you're working with thin layers And if you want longevity, you have to, first of all, you got to take into consideration how much patience you have for your makeup, how much time you have, because longer makeup and long lasting makeup, whether it's hot or humid outside, it takes more time and it takes more patience and it takes a lot of thin layers built up gradually.

5:30And so longevity and makeup, you're not just going to be able to slap on one foundation, grab a primer, grab a setting spray, and it's going to make your makeup last all day. Like you need to be using those products, like the right products for the occasion and the right products for that temperature. Yeah. But in lots of thin built up layers. What's the biggest mistake people make with skin prep when they're trying to get their foundation in thin layers to last? Not actually using thin layers, but also blending techniques come into play. And I think that that's an overlooked thing that could keep your makeup.

6:04it could be the difference between your makeup lasting again like three hours and looking great or lasting 12 hours yeah great so for example when you want your makeup to stick to your skin and like you said your makeup your skin eats your makeup you need to be pressing it onto your skin so not just swiping not just sweeping down your face i always say to people you're not painting a wall you're not priming a wall you need to stipple it to your skin you need to actually like push it into your skin and actually push it into your pores and that might sound scary yeah like oh my out. What's going to cause breakouts?

6:34I'm going to be, I have clogged pores after that. It's not that serious. It's not that deep. You're going to wash your face. You're going to double cleanse. You're going to get off. You're going to be doing a liquid exfoliator. You'll be fine. Yeah. But like you need to actually push the products to your skin. What's the brush for that? Funny enough, I, you would think I'd recommend one of my brushes. I have two sets of brushes that I got to design with BKB. I'm so grateful for those brushes. They're like, they're my right hand in my makeup artistry like on myself and on my clients, but a really great brush that I had, they not had this on the market and in existence already, I would have fully, it would have been the top of my list to develop with them.

7:10They have a brush that's the 106 and then they also have like the smaller sister brush to it, which is the 115, no 116, excuse me. But those are a little bit rounder. They almost look like a kabuki size brush, but they have a rounder tip to them. So they're not like that flat. For example, I'm just going to show you this because we have a Makeup Forever brush. This is their foundation brush. It's a foundation brush and it has that sharp edge. Yes. So the BKB ones I'm talking about, they have rounded edges. So what that does is it minimizes the streaks that are left behind. And it helps to kind of melt the outer edges in while you're buffing it in.

7:48So stamping, pressing, pushing. Okay, great. I really like the Hourglass Foundation Brush for that. I don't know if you've tried that, but I've probably seen it. It's like short and stubby. And I just, yeah. Same idea. Go to town, pressing it in, guys. I always say tap, tap, tap. Like you never want to swipe, swipe, swipe. When you swipe, swipe, swipe, you're swiping off your coverage. Yeah. You're not pushing it and adhering it to your skin.

8:11Nikki La Rose:Yeah, for sure. If you were going to, and I'm going to ask you about you personally, because you are a professional makeup artist. So you're thinking about lots of different skin types. What kind of skin type do you have? And if you were going to a wedding, let's say in the middle of the summer, you're getting ready in the morning and you know it's a wedding outside, you're going to use your method. What's going to be the makeup, the foundation that you're going to reach for? If you ask me right now, I am really in love and so relieved to say this, but I'm really in love with the new reformulated Dior Forever Skin, the matte one.

8:46Okay. That's what I'm wearing today. Are you wearing the matte one? Yes, girl. That's the glow one. No, this is not. No, this is the. Oh, this is the glow. Yeah. I brought the wrong one, but I put it on. The Matt one's amazing. Yes, in my hotel room. Yeah. I apologize. No, it looks beautiful. But of all the reformulations, because we just did a whole episode about this, I just need to get it on the record. That one was my favorite. Okay. Because people were like, what was your favorite? Yeah. Yeah.

9:09Nikki La Rose:She's like, I think I found my new Holy Grail. And everyone's like, what was it? She's like, damn it. I wasn't clear enough. Now you know. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. And I could not agree with you more. And I was so relieved because the original one was one of my favorite ones. I used that in my kit for years and years and years. And it was like one of those no fail. OK, I need a lot of coverage. I need to stick. I need to stay put. I need to look flawless. I need to read flawless on camera. Yeah. And so what is your skin type so people know when they're listening? I am very oily. OK, so you and Jill are going to have a lot in common.

9:41Nikki La Rose:OK, I'm going to share my favorite of the reformulations that I would use on a hot summer day. I think I would use that Estee Lauder one. Really? The new one. I mean, then I have a question for you. Again, it depends on what I'm going for that day because I like the Estee Lauder stay in place makeup where I felt like it stayed in place all day because it was used on me by a makeup artist for an event that we did. And I thought my skin looked really good at the end of the day as it did in the morning. But now that I'm saying it out loud, I realized that I do prefer probably to your earlier point, like my go to in the summer is so I go with the moisture and my skin's normal, by the way, like I say normal.

10:27Nikki La Rose:I'm not oily. I'm not dry. Yeah. I'm probably dehydrated, if anything. But I use Chanel La Tint, Eau de Tint, religiously. So very light coverage and it's very sheer, very kind of like juicy. But then I'll use a concealer on top. So I like to do that in my T-zone where I have a lot of redness. That's what I truly like. Yeah. I feel like I don't get the breaking up around my nose in my the crevice, like in my lines. That is what I usually have to deal with. So that's what I prefer. I really like the Prada concealer right now. Oh, I need to try that. It is. I find it's really nice. But yeah, if I was going for something more full coverage and I needed to like look really good in pictures where I wasn't afraid to have redness and stuff show through.

11:12Nikki La Rose:I do like the double wear. What's your thoughts on the double, the reformulation, the new one? Oh my gosh. Okay, so. Real talking. Yeah, real talking. And I honestly, I cannot be anything but very, very, very honest. Recently, I finally gave it like a really good try. And I've been sitting on it for a while because I was, I just couldn't commit to testing it. And because I found the Dior and the Dior was great. and I had so many things like socially and so many like events to go to. And I just didn't have the right time to try it. I'm testing makeup today. So the new Estee Lauder, to make a long story short, I looked in the mirror and I thought, oh, I look horrible.

11:54I look greasy. And I don't experience that many issues other than just pure grease. Yeah. Like I am so oily. And on top of it, too, I'm also very stubborn. I like my skincare. I want my hydrators. I want. And if you don't hydrate, too, by the way, that actually produces more oil. So it works against you for you. I love loads of sunscreen and I'm a big sunscreen person. Yeah. And I was so oily and so separating. Yeah. And more more so than I ever have been in a while. So it was like a noticeable change. And I thought to myself, oh, my gosh, this is the Estee Lauder.

12:31Nikki La Rose:This is what's happening right now. It's not good. We're going to ask you about another reformulation later that I hated, but maybe other people with oily skin would like. So we're going to move on.

12:54Today's episode is brought to you in part by Momentus. All right. Where are my perimenopausal girlies at? But if you're like me, you definitely know this feeling of just a slowing down in your system, a slowing down when it comes to gut motility. Does that sound familiar? I just find there's certain times of the month where if I'm not supplementing with something, I am not going. And it's honestly, it can be painful as well. So I have started trying and loving Momentous Fiber Plus. This is a triple action formula that combines soluble and insoluble fiber with prebiotic resistant starch to support gut health and digestion.

13:34And that helps your body absorb nutrients better too. I really like that it helps to stabilize blood sugar. This is an issue I've noticed as well. Increasingly, I get knockout tired by three o 'clock in the afternoon, like I need a nap. So I love that this Fiber Plus formula helps with that, helps to improve recovery too. if you're going to the gym regularly, like I'm trying to do. And the reality is whether you're in perimenopause or not, nearly 95 % of people aren't getting enough fiber. It's just the way of modern diets, busy lifestyles, the type of bread we buy in the grocery store. And I mean, when I travel, don't even get me started.

14:11And I love that Momentus holds a higher standard. They use clean, minimal ingredients. There's no unnecessary fillers and they're NSF certified for sport, which means it's been third party tested for purity and label accuracy. So if you want to try it for yourself, support your gut health and overall performance with Momentous Fiber Plus and get up to 35 % off your entire first order at livemomentous.com. 17:34Nikki La Rose:What about like bronzers and contour products? What do you find stands the test of time during the day and doesn't like fade away or slide off? Cream bronzer wise, the CL Sculpt and Protect is so good. It has SPF 30 in it. Yes. Which is nice. You know, I mean, it's always nice to like layer a little bit more sunscreen on throughout the day or like just on top of your existing sunscreen you have on before the makeup. But that one I noticed and anytime I need my bronzer to stay put, I need it to not go patchy. I need it to stay pigmented throughout the day and not slide down my oily skin. That's the one that I'll grab.

18:15Okay. It's amazing. It doesn't fade. It doesn't interact weird with any other formulas. It lays perfectly. It doesn't get patchy. Like I said, it's just a really good no-fail option for me. Yeah. And then I'll set it with a powder bronzer if I want like that long, which I recommend. I feel like Seal, how do you say it? Seal is low key becoming a makeup artist staple. Yeah, I agree. Well, created by a makeup artist, Nikki Duos, who I've been such a fan of that brand because every formula that they launch is like, oh, wow. Yeah. This is different. It's impressive. It's high performance. But it also is like a lot of it's natural.

18:53Yeah. And I love a little bit of both. I like a love a mix of both. I love a natural makeup day and I love a full glam. Yeah. I love it all. And you really can do both with that brand. You can either do a really soft, natural, everyday, quick makeup look, or you can build it up to be a full glam moment. It's a bronzer? It's a sculptor. And so when you say sculpt too, you get the best of both worlds. I'm the biggest fan. And this is why I love the brand too. And I love the branding of that product because she's not telling you it's a contour. She's not telling you this is going to chisel your cheeks.

19:24Right. She's not telling you this is going to minimize wherever you put it. It's a sculptor. So you get this perfect balance of in-between where you can use it in those areas to sculpt. And it's going to give you a sculpted effect because of the depth of it and the placement. But it's also warm enough that you can warm up your skin and bronze with it. So ultimately, I will choose a bronzer over a contour any day of the week. It's more flattering, it's more forgiving, it's more foolproof for everyday wear. But when you get something that's more sculpt-like, that product then it's like the biggest win yeah okay I'm gonna give it another try I really hope you do and I want you to tell me what you think because I use it I have to stop myself from using that product that's how much I love it yeah I have products like that too yeah well I love the makeup by Mario uh sculpt or the one is it the the tube no the other one the compact the compact what's it called oh yeah enhancer the enhancer I have a hot tip for you okay let me let me hear I have a hot tip for you I love that product but I stop using myself because it's I'm just pure grease and it just slides off my face.

20:25Yeah. But it's in my cart at Sephora right now because hot tip, I saw a video of Makeup by Mario doing his quick makeup, right? His quick everyday, fast makeup routine. And what he did was such an obvious thing for like artists because we have all these tips and tricks, right? But it's something I forgot to do is he basically powdered his whole face. Yes. He puts it on at the end. Yes. You know what I'm talking about? He told us that. Oh, no way. So then I started using it like that. Yeah. I am obsessed with him. Yeah. Really bad. Now they got the other way. Everyone knows and they laugh at me for it.

21:00Nikki La Rose:We're in love with him like everybody else in the world. He's one of a kind. But I'm glad you brought that tip up again because it bears repeating. Yeah. And it is a good summer tip. Misunderstood product. 100%. Now, I need to ask you. I don't have it. We don't have it here. But the Hung Van Gogh Tan Sculpt. Have you tried that? I need to know what the differences are between those two products. the hung bang go is way more pigmented yeah so the makeup by mario is really great for natural makeup wearers but it's also great on top of a full beat so if you have a full beat you're fully powdered you're fully everything right you want to bring some skin like glow back to that more flat canvas of like a lot of powdered complexion products you put that on top like just the way he did yeah um just like with any product that's cream based like i used to do this with the tom Ford sculpt and highlight duo like after I would do an onset makeup look it would be completely powder it's very flat and then to bring the dimension the skin yeah look back in right so it's not so powdery you put that product strategically on top of certain areas to highlight so great for both scenarios but that product is a lot more natural yeah it's a lot more sheer and it looks more like your skin like you'll see your skin through that product whereas the Hong Van Gogh is very pigmented a little bit goes a long way and the texture of that one is an oily person's dream because it goes on cream and it dries down to a powder so it's this the texture is like when I touched it I was sitting across from him too when I touched it and I swatched it on my hand I was like oh this is it's like an instant I knew I was gonna love that texture based on how it like it went on creamy, dried down almost instantly, but not in a cakey way.

22:43Nikki La Rose:So blush, we're going to talk about blush now because cream blush, a lot of times it slides off. There's really, really sheer ones that I cannot stand. Same. Oh, they hurt me. And then there's also powder blushes, of course. So what would be, again, your go to for like a bride? It's her wedding day. It's happening outside. What would you recommend your go to? Well, I don't take brides anymore, but I do. Pretending you did. But I do a lot of bridal tutorials because I am so passionate about that industry. If I was teleporting back to that situation, I would do the Westminster Cream Blushes. They're very pigmented.

23:19They're long lasting. They do not slide off your skin unless like there's always going to be an exception to this, right? Like, you know, I could say this to somebody and say it's never going to slide off your face, but depending on your skin prep and what's underneath. If you have an oil underneath, it's probably going to slide off your face. But I would do the West Montelier. I would push it in. I would tap it in. And then I would lock it in with more of a matte blush on top. Right. Are you going tone on tone? Yeah, I would do tone on tone. Yeah. But you can always do like a peach with a pink.

23:47Yeah. It's very pretty. It's very flattering. It's very dimensional. Yeah. It's not so flat. Or you could do a deeper, vice versa, right? You could do like a lighter cream blush and then deepen it with a slightly deeper powder blush.

23:59Nikki La Rose:Okay. Okay. Sorry, what were you going to say? Was the powder you'd do on top? I love the YSL Make Me Blush, the Make Me Blush formula, the powder ones. I love that formula. I think it's so well done. Yeah, the Make Me Blush Bold Blurring Blush. That's the one, right? Yes. Yeah. You know what else is a great one? Yeah. So that one is, see, that one actually has a claim around it of being a long wear, which I had just really clocked. What does it say there, Jill? It was 24-hour all-day long alter. It's absurd. I know the name. Okay, it's 24 hour all day long, ultra buildable powder, blush, waterproof and sweat proof.

24:36Nikki La Rose:I just hadn't seen that around a powder blush before. I have not heard that claim before either. Okay, so you're saying it lives up to the claim. I wouldn't say that it doesn't. Okay. And I would say that. I like that. I wouldn't say that it doesn't. But again, going back to like makeup is so nuanced and it's all dependent on like everything that's underneath and it all has to come together. Yeah. But I do find it to be very long lasting. It's like one of the powder blushes that I can put on my skin without a cream underneath. Yeah. And it won't lose its intensity and fade throughout the day. Or at least I have not experienced that.

25:07And I have oily skin and things tend to fade quickly on oily skin.

25:11Nikki La Rose:Right. It's interesting to me that you mentioned Atelier Westman versus the Rare Pinch Me Blush. So we're talking cream. Which I find is so pink. Oh. But you said cream. You got me. You didn't say liquid. I love the liquid 100%. That is such a great, it's almost how I would describe like a melting blush. Like it's going to melt into the rest of your complexion product. So for me, I love using that blush prior, after post cream bronzer for sculptor and then before concealer. Okay. So with that blush, it's so pigmented and it's also fluid. It's a liquid. So there's not as much control. So I always recommend.

25:52And it runs away from it. It does. Like very quickly. I'm like, oh, shit.

25:55Nikki La Rose:And then it's like I've got big triangles. Yeah. And before you know, you're just only blush. Yeah. And there's nothing else going on. It's taking over your eyes, everything. So a great way to apply that product, a safe, the safe bet way to apply is to put that on first. And then the idea is after you're done blending and it's inevitably spread to areas you didn't anticipate, you can then go in with your concealer and clean up and refine and kind of push it back in. Right. That one is just a great product, again, for the kit and for like artistry. So when I'm using that product on clients, never directly applied to their skin, it's going to, it's a hard pan product.

26:28It's a hard, it's not a pan product, but it's like a hard product. So you need to break that top layer and you shouldn't be breaking that top layer where it's dry down on your skin. Right. It's going to rip up, it's going to dig up all your foundation. Yeah. And your sculpting products and all that. So what I do is I warm it up on the top of my hand. I get, I'll cover the entire top of my hand. Wow. And then I'll take, for example, like my N17 brush. it's a double-sided brush you can use it for foundation powder cream products liquid products all that and so i'll use the lighter fiber side to tap on and i'll pre-blend it and load up my brush in that way and then tap it on my client skin okay because it is really pigmented especially

27:05Nikki La Rose:depending on what color you pick up yeah and that's the same brand bk beauty bk beauty okay great great tip i have got to send you guys yeah i need to try that do you have a favorite blush The one I use, like it's a little bit embarrassing because I was like, I'm verging on a bit basic, but the Rare Beauty. Yeah. No. It's so good. Well, it's so pigment. It's not good. And it's just so blendable. I'm impressed, actually. I don't think you're basic at all. I think I'm impressed because a lot of people are intimidated by that liquid formula and how pigmented it is. But it's just so blendable and it really lasts.

27:39It is. It's like I'm trying to finish it. I can't. I know.

27:43Nikki La Rose:It must be a dream for dark skin tones, I would imagine. There's a red one. Because you're just getting that instant punch. And it is so gorgeous. They really did the thing with Rare Beauty with the formulations. There's so many good ones.

28:05Today's episode is brought to you in part by Medicaid. Okay. If you are a skincare aficionado, a regular listener of our show, I've got a skill testing question. What is the skincare ingredient of 2026? you're right if you guess pdrn that's right salmon sperm as it's become known has risen to popularity every dermatologist and esthetician is talking about it because it's not just a trend it's actually quite legit it started in korean skincare clinics they would use it as an injectable following professional skincare treatments so it's really there for tissue regeneration rejuvenation, and healing the skin, basically.

28:48So now we're seeing it in a plethora of skincare serums. And the one that I really like is actually from Medicaid. If you're not familiar with Medicaid, they are the clinically proven British skincare brand known for age defying results. I love that everything is dermatologist recommended. And they recently launched the EXO PDRN Prismatic Plus Serum. It unlocks the power of a non-invasive vegan PDRN through advanced biotechnology. So no salmon used in this formula. It's proven to boost skin's natural rejuvenation by over 50%. And I've been loving that it helps to calm my visible redness. It helps with my skin barrier.

31:57Nikki La Rose:So we're going to start rolling along a little bit quicker. The eyeshadow that will not move. We know you need an eyeshadow primer. But aside from that, what is the eyeshadow that is like going to stick with you, you know, all summer? Okay, well, I'm going to go back to how you, you know, you're baking a cake, right? It's like it's all dependent on like the layers that are underneath. So there is no singular powder eyeshadow that's like foolproof, going to stay put, going to be jumping a pool, long lasting. Nothing, no eyeshadow is going to stay put unless you prime your eyes properly. One of my favorite primers for especially oily eyelids or just hot summer weather is the OG MAC Paint Pots.

32:43So good. They're so good. Yes, they're so good. And they're very forgotten about. But more recently, I think the Makeup by Mario liquid eyeshadows are... I haven't tried those. They're amazing. And a lot of people are like scared to use them if they have dry eyelids. But you just need to hydrate your eyelids first. Yeah. Get them a little more plumped up. Get like that skin nice and hydrated. And then they'll be able to take a more matte product like that much better. But for oily eyelids, they're a dream. Yeah.

33:10Nikki La Rose:What do you think of the Grip Eye Primer? I didn't think it did anything. Really? No, I didn't. And Elf came out with one too. I wouldn't even try it. Oh, interesting. Sorry. I mean, I need to be honest. Do it. I love it. I wouldn't even try it. I really wouldn't. Okay. So I think that that, because here's the thing. Anytime I've ever tried that type of texture, that texture is like a gel, right? It's not conducive to mattifying your eyelids. And then summer, you need your eyelids to start out matte. If they're not starting out completely matte, then you're already, it's downhill. You're already sliding down the hill like fast.

33:44Yeah. so that gel is just not it doesn't dry down fully matte so yeah you're just never going to get that

33:49Nikki La Rose:longevity out of that yeah for sure i also like the violette fr those are so good she's amazing i'm such a fan show the camera yeah like the color on that is so insane the violette fr and i love this product because i like how you can put it on just like that it looks like a lip gloss guys for those people who are listening and you and it's so it's got like that little doe foot applicator and I just like how you can put it on your eye and then like blend it out a bit more but you can also use the sharp edge which I'll sometimes do and do like a bit of a liner on my lash line and I find this lasts pretty well I agree in the summer don't you I do like I was using this all last summer in different shades yeah they're amazing that they have mad as well she's she's fantastic although she did say by her own admission on our show that they don't have enough play time that she's working on yeah because it's like getting them on your lid and getting it blended is it takes a minute right you know well do one eye at a time for sure same with the makeup by mario don't apply it okay both eyes and then expect to be able to like once you're done blending one side yeah don't expect to be able to blend out that other side because it's long gone it's dried right it the the ship sailed and you're off of it okay then you're starting over yes what about eyeliner guys i feel like this is one that's so important because it It can just destroy your look when things start to smudge and smear around.

35:14Nikki La Rose:So I know there's different types of eyeliners. What about a liquid liner? What would be your go-to? I don't use liquids much. I do on occasion on myself, never in my kit. It's really rare unless it's like, because it's not sanitary. I have a lot of favorites. Actually, the NYX, is it called? Epic. Epic Ink. Thank you. That's the one I use. That's amazing. The NYX Epic Ink. That's my go-to. I use the brown. The brown is beautiful. You know what's a beautiful brown liquid liner is the Fenty, what's it called? In Big Truffle is the shade. Okay. Yeah. Wait, where's the rest? Really, really pretty.

35:50And I find that one lasts a really long time too. Great. Otherwise, I, especially in summer, I'm going to rely on gel pencils that have a long lasting. Have you tried these? The Sephora. Yeah. I have a swatch. So, yeah. So these are actually my mom's favorite. Okay. These are my mom's favorite because she doesn't ever have a sharpener handy. So she likes me to buy her the twist up. So I'm my mom's makeup buyer and my sisters and my best friends and their mothers and everyone else. But this is my mom's hair. This is a great, affordable eyeliner. Very long lasting. But I'm going to say this, too, like in terms of if we're talking strictly longevity and hot, humid weather.

36:27Yeah. Regardless of what formula you're putting on, regardless of its claims of how long it's going to last, you still want to be on the safe side and you want to still set it with powder. Okay. Because you really don't want it to transfer, especially if you have hooded eyes or deep set eyes and your eyelid is encroaching on your lash line. Yeah. No gel eyeliner or liquid, in my opinion, is going to be resistant to the oils in your eyelids breaking it down. Yeah. That's just reality. What's the powder that you use? Any powder, eyeshadow. So let's say you're using a dark brown eyeliner. Just take a dark brown like-minded color and a matte shadow and just press it and stamp it on top.

37:10And go right over top. So it's the same idea as like you put your cream blush on and you set it with a powder blush for longevity. It's the exact same idea. Okay, got it. And anyone that knows me and knows my channel knows I don't want to use Too Faced often. Yeah. So it feels very much like my dirty secret. Anyway, yeah, that eyeliner, the killer eyeliner, I think it's called. Something like that.

37:28Nikki La Rose:One of those cheese ball names. Yes. And it doesn't smell like chocolate. which is great. That's a win. But there's a really dark brown and a jet black. And those two are so good for tight lining and the waterline or just for like hot, humid weather. Yeah. I would say get those two. Also, the Makeup Forever Aqua Resist. Yes, those do not move. Or whatever it is. Yeah, they do not move. And by the way, everybody, the Sephora collection ones that we were just talking about, they're 12 hour colorful, waterproof, retractable liner. What's great about them is there's a lot of very fun colors. Yeah.

38:02Yeah. But you know what I like more is the ones you actually sharpen. Yes, you do. That's my favorite one. Tiramisu is one of my favorites. Coconut in terms of like the shades. Yeah. Coconut is like a soft beige. It's really flattering for opening up the blonde lash line. Is this the Makeup Forever ones? This is the Sephora collection. Okay. Every time there's a sale, they're 3 % off and I stock up. They're so good.

38:23Nikki La Rose:Okay, great. Okay, mascara. Yes. We can't, you know, we can't leave everyone hanging. No. Everyone wants to know. there's the world of tubing versus waterproof. What is your go-to tubing, right? Yeah, tubing all the way. It's just, it's less damaging on your lashes. Of course, again, going back to like professional makeup or so, I always use a waterproof. My clients hate me for it. Yeah. I mean, they're probably absolutely cussing me out when they're washing their face at night. One of them will send me videos like, it took me 55 cute tips to get this eye makeup off. And 50 lashes. But did it run when we were shooting?

38:57No, it didn't. Yeah, exactly. Take me all you want. But yeah, no tubing all the way, especially for daily use. You wouldn't want to use a waterproof for everyday life. That's just not realistic. It's not, it's not, you know, it's just too much, right? It's just too hard to get off. Even with a good oil cleanser, it's going to be hard. Lashes are coming out. That's a given. Oh, yeah. Always, every time, right? But I mean, if you were specifically going, you know you're going to jump in a pool. Yeah. You know you're going to be in the ocean and you want your mascara. I don't judge you. I would put mascara on too if I'm jumping in the ocean.

39:28I want to still look pretty and feel pretty. But then waterproof is great for that. Waterproof is obviously great for moments of, you know, big celebrations. If you're going to cry or be emotional, then they're great for that. But for hot, humid days, just get a good 2B mascara. I love the Persona one. Oh, I haven't heard of that. Oh my gosh, you got to try it. There's a brown one that's beautiful. Okay. The black one is amazing. Very lengthening, very great separation. it builds quick it doesn't clump easily unless you like really pack on too much yeah but it's a really awesome tube mascara that comes off very easy you're an hourglass yes the hourglass unlocked the tubing mascara i know i really love that yeah it's good not good but good not cheap yeah i think it might be 45 bucks or something that's the only thing yeah it's yeah it's a lot but then at the drugstore the lash paradise l 'oreal in the gold tube that one's like pretty good as well for 10 bucks you know i'm always going to choose like a drugstore formula over high end i know if i have the choice yeah loyal extensionist the telescopic one the new one that's in the silver tube that one is really amazing okay see i didn't have a good experience with that but really yeah it went oh i love everywhere on really yeah it did i don't know maybe my eye prep was off guys i don't know but your eyelids greasy yeah very possible with my with my skin type.

40:52Yeah, I've done that too, where I've just thrown on like tinted moisturizer to walk my dogs and then put that on. I'm like, oh, this just completely transferred everywhere. Yeah, exactly.

41:11Narwhal is supporting our show this week. I need to tell everybody about something that's made my adulting easier. And that is the Narwhal Flow 2. Everybody, this is a robot vacuum and mop in one, and it has changed my life, I swear. So I first learned about the Narwhal brand from a salon owner who told me that it's the best robot vacuum that doesn't tangle when it's sweeping hair up off the floor. And as somebody who has long hair, I'm constantly shedding. I was like, tell me more. And I was like, okay, if it can stand up to a salon environment, I need it in my house. So what really sets it apart is the Narwhal.

41:49It's a vacuum that actually thinks. It's highly intelligent. It uses cloud-based AI cameras and an autonomous level chip. It learns your home or your condo's layout. It adapts to complex environments in real time. It doesn't bump around. It's constantly learning. So you don't have to pre-clean your house before it runs. And you just kind of organize everything from an app on your phone. So even when I'm out of town, I just set the automated cleaning and it takes care of any dust bunnies while I'm not here. So the Narwhal Flow 2, it solves that dirty mop problem. So instead of dragging a soiled pad across your house, the exclusive Flow Wash mopping system, it continuously washes the track mop with 140 degree Fahrenheit water throughout the entire cleaning cycle.

42:36So floors are sanitized with a fresh hot mop from start to finish. And honestly, you guys, I dropped some body lotion on my bathroom floor while I was heading out the door. And all I had to do was summon the robot vacuum with my app on my phone and it cleaned it up. Like I didn't need to like waste time cleaning it up when I had to be somewhere. It was honestly amazing. So it has a hybrid AI system that further empowers scenario-based cleaning modes tailored to your life. So they have a pet care mode. If you have pets, they also have a baby care mode that runs really quietly near cribs and sends notification when toys are left on the floor.

43:14So if you want to learn more, you can stop babysitting your vacuum and let AI do the work. Hallelujah. Head to narwal.com today to check out the new Narwal Flow 2. That's N-A-R-W-A-L.com to check out the new Narwal Flow 2 today. We'll link to this in our show notes and our website. Now back to the show.

43:45Nikki La Rose:Okay, longwear lip products. There have been so many that have come out that are like that smushy formula that's a stain. That seems to be what's popular right now. But then the texture becomes, it's just like, it's atrocious. So I'm just curious, like, what is your longwear go-to for lips? What are you wearing right now on yourself? it's beautiful i have probably 15 layers of it's so nice i was at a traffic light just going what is she not i was just i was gooping it on okay so maybe don't look at my lips right now you know okay so the stains i'm gonna say i wouldn't suggest something like that because again there is so much room for air yeah right i mean it could go with the liner stain or yeah with the lip liner stain lip liner stain yeah because if you don't have a steady hand like right as tricky as it is Yeah.

44:34And it's like applying an eyeliner, a liquid eyeliner to your lips. Yes. The same idea. So you get one chance. Yeah. If you mess up, there's no wiping it. I mean, you could wipe off some of it. Right. But yeah, depend on the formula. They sting quick. So it's like unless you're really skilled, I would say skip it. I think it's too intimidating.

44:53Nikki La Rose:The Kofi ones are far better. So I was going to say I got those recently. Yeah. I have La La La and I have another color, too. Yeah. They're so good. They are so good. And they do last long. They last and they stain your lips, but I will say they don't stain them in a way where like, it's like you just have a red rim. Yeah. Which is what happens with the liquid ones. Yes, I know. And it looks like a sunburn. It turns reddy orange. Like, at first I was into them and then I was like, ugh. My lips look chapped after it. And also just the color is awful. No, I'm so happy you brought the Kofi. The Kofi ones are amazing.

45:27They did such a great job. And that's actually probably the only lip oil stain that I think is the best on the market. Oh, interesting. Oh, if you haven't tried it, Rose would be so pretty on you. The color Rose. Okay. So pretty. Get La La La and Rose. Okay. And that would be, I think that would be your summer jam. Okay. So it's a lip oil stain. Yes.

45:47Nikki La Rose:That is comfortable. Very moisturizing. And I have plenty of matte lipsticks too that I recommend that I love. Like if you want to spend a little extra money, the Dior ones, the Dior Forever something. It's always Forever something with Dior, right? right yes you are forever that's forever that so it's like the liquid lipstick they're thin in texture so they don't feel like weighty yeah and they don't leave you with like that you know that kind of like that play-dohy feeling on your lips right they don't bunch up because they're so thin so i love accurate play-dohy play-doh yeah exactly i know it starts to crumble up and you're like very embarrassed yes but even more affordable don't sleep on the sephora collection liquid lipsticks.

46:25They're thicker. So like less is way more. But those are amazing too. Charlotte Parler was on our show. Or Palermina also said that. I love her. She also said that those were really her favorites. Yeah. For lip, for lip colors. So the only red lipsticks I have really that I use in my kit are two reds from the support collection.

46:42Nikki La Rose:Yeah. Because if you're going to do red, I'm sorry. You can't. I'm sorry. This is maybe not a popular popular opinion. But like if someone pulls out a satiny or creamy red lipstick. Yeah. It's like, bless your heart, but that's going to look so horrible in about 20 minutes. Yeah. I mean, it's going to be feathering to every crevice. I can't stand it. I can't. It's going to be all your teeth. I cannot stand like a satin, creamy, glossy red. But that's just me. That's just me too. I know. Yeah. Yeah. Like give it. It's got to be matte. Yeah. I don't know. Which other ones have you tried? Well, there's the Maybelline one.

47:15Nikki La Rose:I have it in my bag. The smushy, what's it called? Teddy. The Maybelline Teddy. or no it was the super state tint super state tint but teddy is the color yeah that is like it just starts to feel the colors are so beautiful i know that got me too but then it just does exactly like you said it's like it crumbles on your lips and you're like yeah i know you wait speaking of maybelline have you tried the what are they called lip vinyl maybe the ink ones or oh vinyl ink yeah yeah we have to shake them but they're very wet they're very like quite literally they're like a liquid yeah they dry down those are the best the ones the last like three days yeah the little ink ones yeah they are yeah those are the ones to get really yes i find that they're a little bit like these where the shade starts going wonky no are you shaking them really well something else i might be thinking of a different i haven't been shaking them either.

48:14Every time I forgot to shake mine, I'm like, oops.

48:18Nikki La Rose:Okay. This doesn't look the way it normally does. This is going to take us right into the buyer's skip. Are you okay? We just need to, I need to ask you before we move on. We're talking about long wear makeup. We have not had a chance yet to talk about the new formulation of the Urban Decay All Nighter. I feel like you're the girl to ask about this. Tell me what is good or bad or hurt. I won't do it. I won't do it. not the new form the new formulation is a skip yes yeah i'm gonna say it's a skip i have i okay she looks like she's gonna cry everybody what's going on i listen i'm gonna be very honest because again i can't help myself but i have a slight i have a hint of a bad taste in my mouth from the way they parted with right indianavia yeah because that's the original formula that is that was what made the all-nighter great because that is an amazing thing right it's like an industry standard saying spray so i don't like the way they went about their marketing right it was like they're new and improved or like now it's not going to do this or that like it felt a little gaslighting and i i'm very hyper aware of that so i'm not going to try it yeah yeah i'm going to go for the charlotte tilbury's yeah that's what i have my girl yeah i i like this one it's good have you tried the matte one since you're more oily no but i should try it yeah i was a little little worried if it would be like literal hairspray for my face.

49:43No, it's not. But just want to tell you though, shake it really well.

49:47Nikki La Rose:Like the say setting spray. Okay. And I can't really tell the difference between setting sprays if I'm being really honest. That one, you don't think it said anything? It doesn't say anything. I'm so sorry. This tells me that you really are oily, but this tells me that you might be more drying. Really? Yeah. Because I heard that one's really hydrating. It is hydrating. I've heard that things about it. I want to try it. I have dehydrated skin. Okay, so that's probably it feels really hydrating and fresh, right? Yeah, maybe that's why I like it so much. Maybe you guys are the opposite because I agree.

50:15Nikki La Rose:Exactly. We can cover more ground here.

50:20Nikki La Rose:We are going to do the buzziest longwear makeup of 2026 so far, buyer skip edition with Nikki LaRose right now. It's going to be a bit of a rapid fire. the one size by Patrick Star oil sucker liquid blotting paper spray. Okay. This is meant to give you a soft focus mat without disturbing your makeup. Buy or skip. Just tried it recently. Amazing. Okay. I mean Patrick Star does a really great job of his primers and like anything that has to do with like longevity. That's a great brand for that. Okay. Okay. Love it. Good to know. Hot off the press, the brand new Makeup Forever Balancing and Perfecting Natural Finish Long Wear Foundation.

51:08Have you tried this yet? I haven't. Okay. I'm sorry.

51:11Nikki La Rose:Would you want to? Would you buy it to try it? Absolutely. Or would it be a skip? No, I would definitely buy it to try it. Because? Makeup Forever I used to use a long time ago on my kit, and it's a really, I mean, it's a pretty trusted brand for complexion products and for longevity. So I'm interested. Definitely interested. Okay. And by the way, everybody who's listening, this is going to be on my face as soon as possible. I am so excited for this. And the other one that a lot of people like is going to be phased out. Just letting you know. Oh, good to know. So if you need to stock up, I'm telling you.

51:42Nikki La Rose:Okay. I did not know that. That's good to know. Yeah. And also, everybody, because people can't see at home, there is a embossed set of lips with a line through it, through this bottle. So they've clearly done some like a rebrand. Refresh, I would say. a refresh. It looks kind of cool, but it's a little Pat McGrath Labs lipstick vibes for me. Oh, interesting. I think maybe they could have found another design to emboss, but the box is cute. I think they've done well. And they did an inverted updated logo. Yeah. Makeup forever. Yeah, there's definitely a refresh, but the lips is a bit spot on. Interesting.

52:19Nikki La Rose:The House Labs Atomic Shake Lip Lacquers, kind of like what you were saying about the Maybelline one. These originally launched in 2023. They are now back with more shades. I haven't tried this. So they're saying it's a long wear glossy lip lacquer. It's meant to give you eight hours of mirror like shine. How is that even possible? And as you said, you shake it and you apply a thin layer to parted lips, let them keep them apart for 15 to 30 seconds to allow the glossy finish to set. And you have to use an oil-based makeup remover to get rid of it. Buy or skip? I'd say buy. I say buy, but I'm saying buy because I've heard so many good things about it.

53:04Okay. And from people that I trust and like value their opinion, like makeup bars have definitely given it the stamp of approval. So I'm going to go with buy. Okay. The Charlotte Tilbury Exaggerize Easy Eyeshadow Stakes. I guess these are new. No, I have not tried them. Have you tried them yet either? They look beautiful. I want to try them. Okay. I'm hoping that they are the new revamped 2026 version of their pencils that they had, like those larger pencils. I remember, yes. Because those were one of my favorite products that Charlotte ever had.

53:35Nikki La Rose:They were so beautiful. I wish to God they had a twist, turny thing so I didn't have to find the sharpener. Or buy the expensive big sharpener too, because that's the only one that worked on those two. I would try the cheap ones from drugstore and it would rip apart the pencils. So sneaky. Yeah, I know. Okay. I got to go all in with Charlotte. So we're thinking this could be a new and improved version. I'm hoping. Okay. I cannot say for sure, but I'm very intrigued and I know I'm going to try it. So yeah, they're said to be self-priming and crease proof, transfer proof and waterproof. I would still though throw in this tip of, yes, it says that.

54:12Set it. You know your eyelids more. So for people like us to have really oily skin, oily eyelids, you're going to want to put some kind of base layer to you need a barrier of separation between any makeup product and the grease that your eyelids produce. Yeah. So I would still prime my eyes to some degree. Okay. Any favorite primers under? For eyes specifically? Or foundation. We didn't talk about that. You know, people that watch my videos like know that I have my take on primers and that's pretty unpopular. I have a very unpopular opinion about them. I'm a very heavily reliant on skincare and skin prep.

54:48And I will take skin prep over putting a bandaid on certain things. And primer can be so amazing used in small doses and using the right one for your skin needs and what you need it to do for you. So and for special occasions, I don't think primer has a place in every single day. Okay. Personally. That's fair. I think that if you get a really great sunscreen that has a great dry down. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I want to try that. The Smashbox Invisible SPF Primer, guys. That looks good. Kill two birds, one stone. Not bad. Or have you tried the Unseen from Supergoop? No. Because that, so products like that.

55:24Yeah. I'll use products that are not actual primers. The prime skin. I see. Got it. So either it's a Supergoop glowy SPF sunscreen, let that dry down. Once that dries down, that gives a really great base for makeup to sit on top. but as far as like actual primers go i'm not the biggest user of them yeah there's a great time and a place for them i have a favorite primer right now and this is a big statement for me because again i don't i don't use a ton of primers actually i have a okay no let me back it up i just got excited the cl uh primer protects the original one that has no color is really great for oil control i think you should try it but they came out with ones that are like radiating so they have this beautiful hint of glow to them.

56:06Those make such great primers. They don't pill. They interact beautifully with so many different foundation formulas. I have yet to find a foundation formula that doesn't sit well on top of the CL. They're just so well done. And it has SPF? SPF 30, I think. Sounds like a dream. Yeah, 30. Yeah, right? Why not?

56:22Nikki La Rose:Okay, we're going to be calling Nikki after this. But I will say too, just to go back to primers, if when in doubt, one brand that is a surefire hit for primers is Danessa Myers. Okay. So if you're going to buy it, primer go to danessa first and if you if you need to seek something else go to seal yeah i'm noticing a pattern in a lot of your recommendations makeup makeup brands and that's that makes all kinds of sense yeah and it's not because i'm biased i swear it's just like they well their name is on it yeah i want to do so much about the best makeup artist led brands a damn goods yeah top 10 products That would be a great one.

56:59Nikki La Rose:We'll have to have you back. I have so many thoughts. I would love to come back. Our last question in the buyer's skip. Is the YSL Latex Mascara, which is priced at like$40, the mascara of the season? Because again, it's one of these that promises like 24-hour wear, even though it's not waterproof and it's not tubing either. Buy or skip? I must say false. buy if you don't mind a higher price point. And if you like a luxury mascara, then I'd say that one is worth buying. That one is really impressive. I actually stole that one from my sister because she was like, I'm not sure, but I'm like, give it to me.

57:38I need to review it. Like I want to try it. I didn't want to buy it because I'm a drugstore diehard. Yeah. But if you don't want to spend the money on a high end mascara, there's a ton of great ones at the drugstore that will perform just as well. They won't smudge. They won't run. Yeah, absolutely. Agree. Yeah, but I think it's good. Yeah.
