0:07Welcome to Breaking Beauty, the podcast all about the breakthrough people, products, and moments in beauty. We're your hosts, Jill Dunn and Carlene Higgins.
0:20Hello, everyone, and welcome back to another Wednesday edition of Breaking Beauty podcast. I'm one of your co-hosts, Jill Dunn, and I'm here alongside my trusty co-host, Carlene Higgins. Well, hello there. Hi. Hi. So we were just trying to figure it out off mic. We've been doing the podcast for seven years. Have we done seven gift guides for the holidays? I think maybe six. Okay. It took us about a year to start doing our damn goods. So yeah. But one of our damn good holiday gift guides was in our top 10 for a long time, like for years. I feel like people really do appreciate those. Absolutely.
0:56So I'm excited to be doing it again. Yes. So if you are new here, of course, we're Jill and Carleen. We're two longtime magazine beauty editors turned beauty podcasters. And every month we bring you a hashtag damn good episode. So this is basically our review and edit of what's sort of trending at the moment. And of course, this month, November, it's officially November. Everyone's talking about holiday. It is everywhere. And I just find that every single year it gets earlier and earlier that we do this episode. I know it's so true because we're trying to line it up with different sales that are going on.
1:31We now know that people really like to stock up on holiday shopping and let's be honest, shopping for themselves before everything sells out around the time of the Sephora sale kind of kicks it off. So we do have a lot of Sephora goodies. What's in our cart right now because we're having the sale right now. Right. That's right. And I'm sure our beauty lovers are already well aware because you probably get all the emails and all of the social media notifications. But the Sephora holiday savings event, they don't even call it a sale. They call it the savings event. It's on right now from November 1st until November 11th.
2:09And it's structured a little bit like the people who have the most status get the first access and the best deals for the longest period of time. Now, this is reminding me, Carlene, of earlier this year, I believe it was in April, we did an entire episode about loyalty programs. Oh, yeah. I really made Carlene do her homework on that. It was really fun and just like understanding what is actually good value and how they all work. Yeah. And still Sephora often was coming out on top, you know, even from like people love it, you know. The birth, the little birthday gift and all that. Yes. So powerful.
2:43But Alta was coming in hot, too. I agree. In Dermstore, they had a ton of good skincare, like premium, premium skincare. Right. That you wouldn't necessarily find at a Sephora. So go back and listen. It was pretty eye-opening. And now for the savings event, Rouge members from November 1st to November 11th, they get 20 % off the whole time. They get the best access. VIB members, they get 15 % off from November 5th to November 11th. Okay. And insiders get 10 % off from November 5th to November 11th. Okay. All right. Well, on that note, this is why we've corralled kind of the best deals, what we're excited about, what's in our cart at Sephora.
3:25However, you know, there's more retailers than just Sephora. So after that, we're going to get into other stuff like indie brands that we're shopping. what we really would want to be gifted ourselves. I'm going to front load this and just say, all I want is Taylor Swift tickets. And I'm getting to the point now where I'm going to have to beg if there's any beauty brand listening, you have a box. I will tap dance in there. I will sing show tunes. I'm a great time. Just invite me. I can influence all the 20-somethings. Please, there's six nights in Toronto. Just bring me to one. I'll actually stand on the floor.
4:02I don't even need a seat. I'm going to dance the whole time. Which date is this happening? There's six nights. Okay. So it's after this episode comes out. Yes. So this episode is coming out. So you're tap dancing for your life right now. Oh, look at all this wheeling and dealing and dancing she's doing right now. It just reeks of desperation in here. Subtle foreshadowing is happening. But honestly, it's just, it's just, there's so many Delulu Swifties among us. Yes. And if you're not DeLulu until the very end that you're getting tickets in your selected city, you're just not a true Swifty. It's part of the clowning.
4:38It's part of the part of being part of the army is that you think you're going to get tickets. And I'm putting it out there right now. OK. Well, I am wishing this will come true for you, Jill. So today we're going to be talking about, like you mentioned, some of the very best deals that we found when we went to the Sephora preview. We went to the dinner earlier this month to get a lay of the land. And we are also going to be talking about an advent calendar that caught my eye. I've been a little bit bored with advent calendars. I'm not going to lie, but this one I think is actually worth it. I'm excited by this advent calendar too.
5:11I'm with you on this one. I have a skincare set from Sephora that is going to make you the coolest on the block for sure. What about you? I have some skincare news and a skincare item that I tried during a facial recently that I think is just highly giftable. I have like the really chic grown-up-y stuff. Yes. The stylish stuff that's going to impress. But I have a few like good auntie type gifts as well. That's right. And also a fragrance charm that I think is really fun. Like just a way to switch it up. You know, these are the damn good holiday gifts we really want for ourselves. Plus what we're buying at the Sephora sale just ahead.
5:50Cue the jingle bells.
5:56today's episode is brought to you in part by first aid beauty so today's episode is all about our holiday gift guide favorites i want to tell you about a stocking stuffer that would be great for anyone on your list it's first aid beauties ultra repair cream this stuff really works like it is a staple on my winter top shelf and that's because it's a barrier building colloidal oatmeal formula. So it really helps to transform like dry damaged skin to stronger and healthier within just seven days. It's got this luxurious whipped texture to it, but it does kind of dry down where it doesn't leave skin greasy at all.
6:35And it won't clog pores either. It's non-comedogenic. So this is perfect for anyone who's like a skier. I've used it before, before I go out, because I find with my rosacea, when the wind hits my face and it's really cold, My barrier is thrown off for the rest of the winter, basically. So you can use it like in advance as a barrier that way, or you can use it after to help repair. That's why it's called the repair cream. So it's got that collodial oatmeal. It also has shea butter and a lantoin, which is like a buzzy ingredient right now that helps to calm sensitive skin as well. Now it does come in a huge tub, so you can use it on your face.
7:14You can also use it on your body. And that's why I say it's great for anyone on the list. I've gifted this to my dad before, but yeah, you can use it on heels, ankles, knees, everything. It's kind of almost like a, well, it's called first aid. It's almost like something you want in your first aid kit, really. So the dry skin cycle ends here and now. Demand more from your moisturizer. Order First Aid Beauty's Ultra Repair Cream today. And we're excited to share a special offer available right now just for our listeners. get 20 % off when you visit our exclusive URL, firstaidbeauty.com slash beauty and use our promo code beauty.

8:34We have them up on youtube.com slash at sign unhinged. Okay, I'm going to let you get back to the episode that you actually wanted to listen to.
8:49So it was interesting to me, Carleen, when we were at the Sephora holiday dinner a few weeks ago, and they had all of the stuff out for us to look at as far as the eye could see. And one trend that I really noticed, and I've been noticing it all year is proliferation of minis and the proliferation of jumbos. Right. And I think that that is such an interesting sign of our times. And I did a little bit of research on this and it turns out that it's not just Sephora who is onto this. Target told Vogue Business that sales of travel size products have more than doubled in the past three years. Wow.
9:26And Ulta even went so far as to launch toy. you heard me right, toy versions of their best selling products. So they were replicas of more than 68 products by e.l.f. Like they had a little naked eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay, like key chain size. Wow. And they were so cute. Yeah. But it's like that appeal of the minis. Yes, it's really cute. But then on top of that, the sampling aspect of it. And when you go into Sephora now, it used to only be, you know, there'd be like face wipes in the takeaway section. Now it's like every Charlotte Tilbury product has a mini. Okay. Like that mascara that you talked about that's$40.
10:04You can buy the mini for 20. Right. You can buy a flawless filter for 20. Right. And then on top of that, I find at the holidays, it's when it's a good time to stock up on jumbos. Like something that stood out to me was the Paula's Choice. They had a skincare set. It's their iconic 2 % BHA liquid exfoliant, you know, the gray and the white, everybody knows it. And they have a 236 ml version. Yeah. Amazing. More than double of the original size. and they have a mini in the same pack. And so this kit is$78 Canadian. It's worth over, it's worth$97. So this is a good time to get that. And I noticed a lot of brands were doing that, a jumbo and a mini and the same gift set.
10:43Genius. Yeah, that's so smart because this is where you're re-upping on something or you're gifting something that you know the person already likes. Right. You got that jumbo size. They don't have to buy it for a while, but then they also have a travel size because they can't live without it. Yeah. So I think that's great. I also think that minis have taken off because there's so much digital shopping in this day and age. And we've talked about over and over, like how do people try these products before they buy? So yes, they're still paying, but at least they're not investing the full amount to give something a try before they fully, fully invest.
11:15So I think that makes a whole lot of sense. So in that department, Jill, the Makeup Forever Mini Artist Color Pencil Lip Liner and eyeliner kit was one of my selections that I'd have in my cart. It's$39 with a$60 value. In Canada, it's$53 with a$83 value. Oh, I love that. And so this is a collection of five of, I wouldn't say like they're not that many, but they are five of mini Makeup Forever pencils, mini artist pencils. And so it does include both shades that you've talked about before that went viral. When the Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee, she did a video on TikTok where she talked about what she was using in her lip routine.
12:03And she shared that she was contouring with these two pencils that has since had like millions of views and people are kind of all over it. These products have gone viral. So the five shades that are in here in this limited edition has the Wherever Walnut. That's one of the shades that she wore. It's a warm rose nude. It also has Anywhere Caffeine, which was the other product she used to contour. That's a warm caramel nude. Plus it has Limitless Brown. That's a rich chocolate brown, whatever black and all around white. So one of the things that I didn't know that confused me about this product is that you can actually use it on eyes and lips, which I didn't know because everything's in such tiny, fine print.
12:47So just a heads up, everybody. Now, I will also just as an addendum to that, I use these products. They came out with an extreme version of this pencil that is waterproof. Let me tell you, lasts forever. And I think it's genius because there's not a lot of waterproof lip pencils out there. Right. That's true. That's a good point. And I think that Makeup Forever has finally clued into the fact that they've been discovered on TikTok. So they actually just in September opened a TikTok shop. Brilliant. So they're now, you know, they're now catering to this, the SUNY generation. Yes. I love that. It's called true.
13:28everybody. Like that's what I like about this kit. And guys, you can't see it unless you're watching us on YouTube, but it's in a cute little orange cylindrical package. Like it looks super giftable as well. Okay. What else? What else is in your cart? Okay. In my cart is a really fun, I think Sephora actually completely nailed it with this. And it is the Sephora collection, And holy sheet mask set. Yeah. 50 bucks for 20 sheet masks. Okay. I love a sheet mask. Listen, I know they're not the greatest in terms of the environment, but like I've said before, I love bringing these to like a girl's night, a sleepover situation.
14:10Everyone's always happy. We even have like the guys and the dads and the kids on it. It's great. Yeah. And it's just so much fun. It's in a great, very festive package. It doesn't look too Christmassy either. It's like very holiday. So these are face and body must have masks in this very generous kit. So they have under eye masks. They have hand masks. They have masks for dry skin, plumping masks. So to your point, it's kind of just like endless fun. And I think they are also very Instagrammable as well. So if you are having that sleep overnight or the girls night or whatever, you can all kind of like take a picture of the package and then like put them on.
14:48And it's just like a really, really fun moment. And there's even a hair sleeping mask. Wow. That comes with like a little shower cap esque idea. You're supposed to leave it on overnight. Yeah. I have not tried that. No, I haven't either. Sounds a bit messy, but we have those hair towels now that you can wear to bed. Yeah, exactly. $50, like I mentioned, in the U.S., it's slightly more in Canada. It's$68 in Canada. So I think for the value and it's a fun thing maybe to do on Christmas morning or everybody together. And I just love it. It's a good one. I'm going to talk now about the brand that's everywhere this year.
15:25And that's Solde Gennaro. I mentioned off the hop that I want to talk about a couple of things that just win you the cool aunt award. I'm at the stage in my life where I don't have kids, obviously, but my nieces are older. But then I've all of a sudden become very cool with all of my friends' daughters who are teenagers now. And without a doubt, if I gave them this, they would lose their minds. So I need to share it with everybody. If you're looking for a gift for someone who's like Gen Alpha, Gen Z, this is the one to get. Ding, ding. So this is the Sol de Janeiro Chirosa Perfume Mist Set. Body mist, they are back, baby.
16:04If anyone was around in the 90s and you're a mall girl, you know about the body mist. They're back with a vengeance. This one is 34 US dollars with a$40 value, 46 in Canada with a$54 value. And they are minis of their best selling body mists that are all very gourmand in nature. They smell like dessert. And it's a really amazing, fun package illustrated in these bright, fun colors. And they actually tag the artist on the box, which I really appreciate. It's our Jonah underscore Gortati. It's a Brazilian artist. Nice. What a great price to have four different fragrances. Each one is one fluid ounce.
16:46So that's perfect for traveling. This brand, apparently everyone, I've heard it on good authority. It's the number one brand at Sephora right now in all the brands, which just blows me away. Yeah. And I agree with you. Like my daughter would be happy with that all of her friends. It's kind of the hot ticket right now. It might even sell out. Yeah. No. Yeah. Yeah. Good one. So this I think is going to be like a sleeper hit at Sephora. This is the Pro Brush set. So this is the Sephora Collection eight piece Pro Brush Face and Eye set. It's$95 US with a$220 value. I love that kind of girl math. Yes.
17:28It's$128 in Canada with a$300 value. So like I said, it's eight pieces. With this one, you're getting the Pro Foundation brush, which apparently is a bestseller. You're getting a concealer, a powder, highlighter, blush, shadow, crease brush, and a brow. So those are four and it comes in a vegan leather pouch that kind of like folds nicely so you can have them standing up. Now, in this scenario, the word pro is everything. Yeah. I went down a rabbit hole to find out how people are liking Sephora collection brushes. And what people are primarily saying, including somebody who used to work there, is that when you see the pro collection brushes, typically they're on par with like real techniques in terms of the quality.
18:20But when you see the individual pro brushes, those are on par with like Mac quality. Yes, they are. So in this scenario, we have those individual brushes in a brush set in a pro brush kit. I feel like this is a good level up for anyone who you might already have brushes, but they're kind of mangy. Maybe they were a starter. Yeah. Not matching. Yeah. And they're just, you know, you just want to get level up to a higher quality. I think that this is such a great buy. And also if you're gifting someone again, people don't want to buy their own brushes. This is the kind of thing you want to get as a gift.
19:01Absolutely. It's one of the best things that Sephora does, in my opinion. Okay. What else is in your Sephora cart? Anything else? I have something that's more like stocking stuffer ass. Okay. Bring it. And it's just so damn cute. I couldn't not talk about it. Okay. Talking about something that you always need and never want to buy for yourself, I have here the Slip Silk Skinny Scrunchy Holiday Pack. Guys, it looks like one of those Christmas cracker play settings that you would have at Christmas time. It's like red and pink tartan and gold accents in the little ribbon. This packaging alone is just adorable.
19:38I am weak. I am weak to this type of product. Yeah. I'm so obsessed with it. Yeah, it's cute. What color are the little slip ties? There's like red, pink, and cream. Yes. I'm never without one of these around my wrist, I have to say. I love the skinny scrunchies. Yeah. I really do. Yeah, I love them. And actually, there's two different ones. There's ones that's just the skinny scrunchie, which I mentioned, off the hop. And then this one actually has five scrunchies in there. There's three little guys. Yeah. And then two of the larger ones. Okay, got it. So this is an amazing gift. And it's already packaged, ready to go.
20:16this is going to sell out for sure. And that's a great office one as well. If you're doing the Kris Kringle or whatever they call it these days. Yeah, that's that's a great one. People would be trying to get their hands all over that.
20:35This episode is brought to you in part by Nutrafol. So Nutrafol is a longtime sponsor of our show. And I'm such a fan of Nutrafol because I've noticed I take it regularly, but life gets busy. You know, sometimes I do get off track and I've noticed if I do get off track for an extended period of time, I can see a lot more shedding in the shower. And that's how from my personal experience, I've noticed that Nutrafol does work. It gets me on track so fast. I just start reaching for it every day. Again, I take four of the supplements every morning and I definitely notice an improvement. Nutrafol is the number one dermatologist recommended hair growth supplement brand trusted by over 1 million people.
21:17You can see thicker, stronger, and faster growing hair with less shedding in just three to six months when you use Nutrafol regularly. And everybody's root causes of hair thinning is different. So it could be that you're perimenopausal like I am, or maybe you've just had a baby, you're going through a lot of stress, you've had changes in your nutrition or your lifestyle, And that's why I appreciate that Nutrafol has multiple formulas that are tailored to give your hair what it needs throughout whatever you're going through in your life. And their physician formulated, they use 100 % drug-free ingredients.
21:54They help to support healthy hair growth from within by targeting those root causes of thinning. And while some supplements out there rely solely on ingredient studies, Nutrafol clinically tests the final formulations to ensure efficacy. So in one clinical study, 86 % of women reported improved hair growth after taking Nutrafol women hair growth supplement for six months. So that's pretty impressive. So get results you can run your fingers through for a limited time. Nutrafol is offering our listeners$10 off your first month subscription and free shipping when you go to Nutrafol.com and enter the promo code BREAKING.
22:32So find out why over 4 ,500 healthcare professionals and stylists recommend Nutrafol for healthier hair. Nutrafol.com spelled N-U-T-R-A-F-O-L.com. Promo code BREAKING. That's Nutrafol.com. Promo code BREAKING. We're really spicing things up with this next show partner, and that's Woo More Play. So I feel like with women, we overshare with a lot of stuff, including skincare products, wellness routines, fitness, diet, all of this stuff. But often we're not talking about pleasure and sexual wellness. And that's why I'm really excited to introduce you all to Woo More Play, because I feel like Woo is really an all natural sexual wellness brand that's really focusing on women's intimacy and women's pleasure.
23:18And the most iconic Woo product, in my opinion, is the Coconut Love Oil Lube. It's organic, it's natural. And I'll never forget when Lauren Bostick was on our show and she talked about how the lube tasted like a vanilla cupcake, something you never forget. Plus, you can use it as a massage oil. And Woo actually just launched in Canada. You can now find Woo products at your neighborhood Chatters salons. And great news, Canadian babes, Woo and Chatters are partnering to offer you 20 % off your purchase of all Woo More Play products. So simply use code WU20, both in stores and online. 24:28Now, I think we've covered off what's in our Sephora cart. It's time to move on to what else is out there in the world that we really want for ourselves for the holidays. Yeah. Who's going to start? I want to hear your top, top pick. Let's see it. Oh, sure. I'm going to start with Mae Lindstrom. Okay. Love it. Now, Mae Lindstrom, she's been on our show. That's another one to go and listen to in our archives. Or watch it on our YouTube. Yeah, she's got such a unique story going from hardship to success and just the amount of craftsmanship and thought that go into her products. It really feels probably the most like farm to face, if you will, in terms of freshness.
25:10And one of the things that we learned in that episode is that May actually pulled all of her products from retailers because she has an expiry date on the bottom of her products. That's how fresh they are. Yeah. If they don't sell by a certain date, they have to come off the shelf. Now, the big news is, as of this fall, is that May Lindstrom is carefully tiptoeing back into retail with the detox market. And so I had the privilege, you know, I had the privilege of going to the detox market and catching up with May and also experiencing a wonderful, wonderful facial. So when I was there, I discovered a product that I hadn't really tried before that I fell in love with.
25:53It's the May Lindstrom, the honey mud. It's$95 US and$130 in Canada. And this whole line is so highly giftable. You know, it is a luxury price point, but this is a case where you are getting what you pay for. This is not just all fancy packaging with run-of-the-mill formulas. This is like, I believe she had said, she said to me privately, she's like, I can never reduce the price of these products. I can't because that's simply what it costs. And I just have so much respect for that. So the honey mud is just a beautiful kind of caramely color, almost like a pudding. OK, so if that isn't luxurious enough to put on your face, it's a natural exfoliating and natural exfoliating enzyme and acid facial mask.
26:46And it has that signature intoxicating like aroma to it. Yeah. Smells very foodie. What's in it is raw honey. It also has colloidal silver. It also has clay. So that's going to really help to detoxify and the pure plant oils that she always has. So it's just this cushy, luxurious feeling. You're going to have it on in the bath or whoever you're gifted to. And I think one of the things that she reminded me of as we were talking through each and every product is that even though she's using plant-based products that she learned from, you know, as a hippie when she was a child, they do actually do something.
27:28Like, what she's using in this product is a very special form of natural salicylic acid. It's extracted from wintergreen leaves. So that really helps, too, with dislodging those dead skin cells and turning them over. So you're getting that enzymatic action. Yeah. So your face afterwards, you really get this like glowy feeling to it, but it's not stripping. Like everything in her line is designed for sensitive skin. People who even have like eczema. And people, she's honestly worked a lot with people going through chemotherapy. Yeah. People whose skin literally is like, it hurts to touch it. Exactly.
28:10And she's just so inspirational. You want to support her when you meet her. And like, I was telling my friend after I like linked up with her again, I was like, May just has this energy that like, if she asked me to run away and join a cult with her, I probably would. Yeah, exactly. Like caring to it's like she cares so much. It's back to Mother Earth. Yeah. Yeah. It's very grounding her presence and her products. And I and what I predict is that they may start doing these facials at Detox Market because they do have a treatment room, which I think would just be so wonderful because you have to experience it to fall in love with it.
28:49So great gift here, guys. What else do we have, Jill? Oh, OK. So I wanted to talk about something again that earns me the cool anti-award. And that is something that I hope isn't sold out by the time this episode comes out. But it is the Elf Cosmetics and Stanley Cup collaboration. Oh, my gosh. Didn't know that was happening. OK. You're such a Stanley Cup girl. This is hilarious. I have to stop myself from buying colors. Like if I only have one, everyone, I'm not that wild, but I want this. I only have one and it's a knockoff that my daughter stole, even though it has my name engraved on it. So I would also like one.
29:29She just took a sip from her Stanley everyone. My cream colored one. So of course I'm not talking about the hockey Stanley Cup. Let's see, let's see. This one is from Elf Cosmetics and Stanley Cup and they came out with an accessory where you can clip onto the handle a holder for your lip oil. Oh my. And it comes with stickers. So there's exclusive colors that are developed from e.l.f. So they're way cooler than the ones that Stanley normally has. They're like a metallic kind of vibe to them. This one's like a red delicious hint of not sparkle, but you know when paints sort of almost have like a reflective finish to them.
30:13Yes. Kind of. Yeah. And so it comes with all of these stickers that you can decorate. And then it has it clips on to the side, a lip gloss holder. And I predicted that it just dropped the day that we're recording this. So I hope there's some left because I'm going to a Target soon. They see me coming. What can I say? I predict this will be this will be a sell out at many locations. I didn't say it off the hop, but the three limited edition colors, they are 45 US dollars for the 40 ounce tumbler. And then the tumbler lip holder, the accessory is $6 and that comes with the stickers. And then if you want to buy the lip oil that's sold separately, it's$8.
30:54It's so fun because this is the genius of e.l.f. People have been putting accessories on their Stanley cups on TikTok for a year now. Oh, really? Like what? People have like gotten those like bungee cord type of coil elastics and made it into a key ring and like slid it up the bottom. Like they're leaving their house and the Stanley Cup has like a belt strapped to it. It's like the new purse. Literally, it's the new purse. I'm not kidding. So they've just officially made people were fashioning their own lip gloss holders. Yeah. We've got the elf lip bomb holder. OK. And the comments are hilarious.
31:32People are like, I'm going to put my vape in that. Oh, my gosh. Using it for like they're like tampon. Like a couple of people have said, how are you going to hold it? Because the lip gloss holder goes on the handle on the handle. They've made a video about that already and tackle that all the different ways you can hold it. It's just fun. And again, I don't know why I want it, but I do. That's good. Good fun. Well, I feel like you've you've jacked up the stakes. OK, so I'm going to come back with something that is like the bougie version of that. OK. Okay. So this is the Chanel No. 5 Low Eau de Toilette Purse Spray.
32:10Love it. It's$195 US,$254 in Canada. And so these are minis and it comes with two 7 mil refills. Okay. So that's pretty small. So this is the adorable little box that it comes in. And so it is a limited edition for holidays. So it's got like, it's very gold and it's got little snowflakes and everything on it. But Jill, when you look at this purse spray, it has attached to it a chain with the number five on it. Okay. And then the actual purse spray, the atomizer, the atomizer is it looks like it's in a lipstick almost like it's white. It's just a little bit larger than the size of a lipstick. And what you do is you twist it and then you spray.
32:57So what the brand has said is that you can wear this around your wrist. I don't think anyone would do that. But what I do think is really happening right now are the bag charms. The bag charms. Definitely. Bag charms. Or your Stanley Cup charms. Yeah, exactly. Should I put that purse right on my Stanley? Exactly. So the bag charms have popped off and I actually have a silver Chanel one right here, which I wore in LA when we were there last week. And I think you can fit AirPods. I've been putting my AirPods in here because it's quite small. Now, full disclosure, I was gifted this from Chanel last year.
33:31These things are very expensive. Like I was looking up the Prada bag charms and the Miu Miu ones and they're like eight hundred dollars. Oh, yeah. Right. So I did wear my Silver Star one with my Chanel bag and I was like, this is adorable. Yeah. And then I saw this perfume charm and I was like, I would add this because of course the style right now, the trend is to like layer your bag charms. Lots and lots of bag charms. So I was like, this is super cute and fun to wear this on the outside of your purse, especially it's Chanel, everyone. Yeah, I have gorgeous. I have. Why hide it away? The purse spray.
34:08Right. And so it's in this black little holder. It's almost like a little cage. It's like a wire cage, but it's all magnetized. So there's no lid that's going to flop off. It's like it would be pretty hard to get it out. Yeah. because of the magnet. So I just feel like this is so cute. And it also so this one is low, the Chanel No. 5 low, which is the lighter, more citrusy version. I'm wearing it right now. I really like this one. It also comes in the classic Chanel No. 5, which is black with a gold chain, which would also look fantastic as a little bag charm or a Stanley charm. if chanel does a collaboration with stanley cup i will not recover like please that would be like i'm so basic in so many ways but like i love a chanel moment like i know it's just i know wouldn't that be crazy i know well i had i had to come back to you with something that's just like gonna like popping off right i was like oh yeah this is the moment these gifts are the moment yes
35:27grateful that allies of skin is supporting our show this week so i discovered allies of skin about three or four years ago it stood out to me right away because it has first of all this very sleek sexy packaging but the formulas are so cutting edge and so innovative and it just really felt very fresh and new. I fell in love with the cleanser right away. You have to try it. It's called the Molecular Silk Amino Hydrating Cleanser. It's just chef's kiss. It does not strip your skin at all. Your skin feels soft after using it. I absolutely love it. And then I fell in love with some of their other best-selling products, including the peptides and antioxidants, advanced firming daily treatment.
36:08It's kind of like a daily moisturizer and it has five benefits in one. And then one of their newest bestsellers that I really enjoyed is the Multi-Peptides and Growth Factor Advanced Lifting Serum. And it visibly reduces fine lines by 20 % in eight weeks. All of that and Allies of Skin, it's got a lot of A-list fans. Kaya Gerber loves it, January Jones. So it's celebrity approved as well. And we have a very special offer just for Breaking Beauty listeners. You can save 30 % on everything at allysofskin.com during the Black Friday event happening now. So use promo code BREAKINGBEAUTY to save 30 % and get your free, that's right, free, peptide and ceramide repair lip balm.
36:57You can also receive a free makeup melting cleansing balm with any order over$130. So don't wait, secure your favorites and get your glow up before they sell out at alliesofskin.com and use our promo code breakingbeauty to save 30%. That's spelled A-L-L-I-E-S-O-F-S-K-I-N.com and use our promo code breakingbeauty to save 30%. We'll link to this offer in our show notes.
37:37I want to talk about the advent calendar. Oh, yeah. That has so cool. That has impressed me. I'll be very honest with you. I saw a lot of stuff for this holiday season. The advent calendars to me at this point, I'm a little bored. I'm a little bored. I'm not going to lie. So this one is from Kitsch. it's 99 US dollars and its value is 140 US dollars. In Canada, it's a little bit more. It's 189 and the value is$267. So as you can see, Carlene. What is in there? That's what I want to know. It is large, you guys. First of all, the box is really impressive. Like if you open this, it's about this. What would you say this is the size of?
38:17This is the size of a steering wheel. It looks like a steering wheel is inside, you know? Maybe you can do the honors of opening it while I talk about it? Sure. But I think what I like about it is like, it's not chintzy. Every single thing, first of all, there's 12 little doors. Every single thing inside is full size. And what I think Kitsch has done or what they do so well. And when we talked to Cassandra Thursewell, who's been on our show, she's wonderful. She's so lovely. They talked about how they want Kitsch to be touching your beauty routine at multiple stages throughout the day. It's just like a part of your life and their products are just so functional as well.
38:54And so many of them are viral, like the heatless rollers, the satin pillowcases. And then, of course, they do all kinds of like collaborations with everyone from Hello Kitty to Harry Potter. But in this kit, it's like pastel, gorgeous, eco-friendly packaging. It's not a lot of plastic. It's actually cardboard. But it's got this beautiful ribbon on the front and you open it up and it's just like, oh, so feel free to open some of the drawers. Carlene, I know there's everything in there from hair, hair clips, hair ties, face roller. I have to put it down to open it. Okay. Yes. I'm so excited. What I really need to know, Jill, is does it have one of those eye patches that I adore?
39:41That we will have to discover upon. Everything is real. Do you want me to open it? Everything's like really wrapped up. Well, we don't have to, but you can if you want. I know that there's satin pillowcases in there. There's a full size face roller, like an ice roller. Everything's individually wrapped in like a little bit of paper. So it really is. It feels like you're opening a gift every day. Okay. This is a gorgeous claw clip. Yes. Full size. Beautiful color. It's kind of like a beige with a bit of rose to it. Yeah. Very on trend. Very on trend. I was just going to say. Yeah. This is number 11.
40:15Yeah. Okay. Go for number four. Open door number four. Okay. Behind door number four. This is kind of a large-ish one. So this one is called. Live unboxing of an advent calendar. Ooh, it's one of the cool rollers. Like metal. Yes. I love that. This is, I hope, this is a run, don't walk. I think this would be one of those things that absolutely sells out. Okay. So tell us what else is in it without having to open them all. So there's hair clips, like the ones that you use to like clip, separate your hair when you're blow drying. Oh, yeah. There's satin pillowcases. Love it. There's hair ties. There's scrunchies.
40:50And it is, like I mentioned, all full size, which is hard to find these days. I imagine their solid shampoos are in there because those are like the number one bestseller on Amazon. They have a hair wax stick that I hope is in there. They also have my favorite. They're stuck in here. I forgot to mention. The heatless rollers would be amazing. Okay. Well, that's a winner. I agree with you. That was the advent calendar that caught my eye the most this year. So I agree. It's got the BBP like seal of approval. I agree. Now, I want to tell you about something else that I think is hot, hot, hot this season and a little bit sold out, but not we can still get our hands on it.
41:33It's the Jerf Avenue Breezy Weightless Hair Mask. It's$30 US and$40 in Canada. Matilda Jerf? Yes. So we are fans of Matilda Jurff around here, as are about three million other people. And of course, we had one of the first interviews with her. It's on our YouTube. If you want to go back and listen. That's right. And she has the most perfect like 2024 version of the Farrah Fawcett hairdo. If you know, you know. So it's that very like voluminous look. And it looks a bit in the in the 80s, you would have called it feathered. But it's got that really like brushed out look to it. but with big curls kind of thing, like big.
42:14Bombshell blowout. Bombshell blowout. Thank you. The words I was looking for. And so we know that last year she launched her hair care line. It was actually just in the spring. Oh, just in the spring. It was just in April. All right. With a few styling products. This fall, she launched the shampoo and conditioner and kind of surprised it wasn't the other way around, but whatever. The shampoo and conditioner, which she did in one that's called Weightless One Range, which is for volume. And the other one that's called, I think it's called Essentials. And that's for if you need more moisture. So what she kind of uses like for that signature look would be the breezy and that's the voluminous one.
42:56So the shampoo and conditioner are sold out. But what I don't think a lot of people have found because it's under hair treatments is the breezy hair mask and the Essentials hair mask. Those are still in stock. And I tried the shampoo and conditioner and it's great. Like everything she curates is great. They have this Lelabo-esque type of scent that we found in the styling products as well. And I just found that it did a great job of detangling, making my hair feel soft, super, super clean, not weighed down at all. I'm on my third day today and I don't feel like it looks greasy at the roots at all.
43:33So these are really like the foundation products to get the Matilda Girf look. What I think is unique about this mask in particular, though, is that it's a lightweight hair mask, which we don't often see. A mask typically can weigh your hair down. You can go overboard with it. This one does have panthenol for smoothing, shea butter for moisture and peptides to help repair damage. But it's going to it is lightweight, so it's not going to wear your hair down. For a mask, I think that's pretty unique. Yeah, it's in one of those glorious metal tubes as well. Very chic. Yeah, it's like the very chic kind of French style metallic tube.
44:12So again, I think this is a great gift, especially there are so many Matilda Ger fans out there. This would be such a great thing to find under the tree. This is another cool auntie approved gift. Yeah, and reasonable price. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, well, she does have the hair that everybody wants. So that makes a lot of sense. Carlene, what else is on your list? Okay, well, I can't close it out without talking about what I get asked about a lot. And what I also get feedback from people kind of the most I get a lot of feedback on this brand when I gift it to other people, how much they love it and go out and buy it.
44:47So this is the You Beauty, the plasma set is$78 US with$120 value. And it's$104 in Canada. So this one very simply contains, rather than their skincare products, three of the cult favorite lip plumping. The lip gloss. Yeah, the plasma lip compound. So they have the universal, which is sort of clear. That one comes in a full size. And then they have two of the tinted ones, the rose and the fawn, which is like a light brown. And those are minis, though. Those little guys. But you get a full version of the original. I was going to say those are$90 Canadian each. Yeah, exactly. So that's why I think for 104, you're getting these in Canadian dollars, you're getting these extra two ones like for really almost not for free, but for really cheap.
45:40Yeah. The tinted ones. So I do think it's a good value. And again, this is just the kind of product that I gift it to people and they go out and buy. They spend the$90 or the$70 US and they buy it for themselves. That's a crazy amount of money to pay for a lip balm. But the whole idea behind it is that it's plumping. It has plumping ingredients, but again, with no stingers and zingers in it. Yeah. So people really like that. I don't know. There's just something about it. It's got that cool tip. People love it. But I have to say, even the skincare products, whenever I've gifted it to people, they always come back and say they love it as well.
46:17Anything else? I'm going to cap it off with something I think is like the Rolls Royce of lipsticks for real. and I would actually really, I'm dying to try this. And it is the brand new Lisa Eldridge Rouge Experience Refillable Lipstick. Have you seen this on the internet? I have not. I've heard people talking about it, but I have not seen it. Okay. So what she has done, and she said it, this was meant to come out last Christmas, but she had to hold it for a whole year because it wasn't meeting her standards. So this is what it looks like, Carlene. Okay. lovely the entire entire unit it's all aluminum there's not a single piece of plastic okay in this lipstick tube yeah sounds not that earth-shattering trust me it is okay and the outside of it it's gold everybody it's like an objet d 'art or however you say that and it has like um lines etched into it it looks like a lipstick tube from a different time and era yeah Like vintage Estée Lauder, I think, used to have that fine kind of like the lines in it.
47:26But this one is kind of rounded off on the corners. So it's a little bit more capsule-ish. Yes. And there's eight shades. It's 59 US dollars, 52 pounds like in the UK. And it's 93 Canadian dollars. And then, of course, the refills are additional if you want to get one of the different hues. And you can get your initials etched onto the top of it. It's very luxe. And the classic shade is Pillar Box Red. Of course, that's like the post office box shades in the UK. But what I loved about this was the backstory. Carlene, Lisa Eldridge is so known for her collectibles, her beauty collectibles. Right.
48:04So she went to the Christie's auction to try her hand at getting Audrey Hepburn's beloved gold and sapphire Cartier lipstick holder. It was true one of a kind made exclusively for Audrey in 1954. and she went to Christie's and she got it in 2017. And she said, I walked away the proud owner of a piece of beauty history. When I collected it from the auction house, I was shocked to see that it still contained a small amount of Audrey's lipstick. The shade was a beautiful true salmon pink and has inspired the creation of my own version of this shade for my Rouge Experience collection. It's called Audrey.
48:43My vintage makeup collection has always informed both my creative work and my own brand and the story of Audrey's Cartier lipstick holder is one that's close to my heart. So it only felt right for me in turn to recognize that it was close to Audrey's heart. And she has a whole, there's a whole backstory there too, where I think she's donating some of the proceeds. Don't quote me on that. But as you can see, it really is revolutionizing the game of lipstick. So this is the first true refillable lipstick on the market that has no component of plastic in it whatsoever. But really it's just taking a nod from the past before we had plastics, how do we make lipstick tubes?
49:20And that was her inspiration. I think it makes a lot of sense. And I find it interesting. The color that's sold out right now is what I was talking about when we were in Los Angeles. We were guests on the Bright Side podcast. I was talking about 90s makeup, vampy lips. Well, her shade called Bohemian Cherry, a very, very dark Bordeaux plum is the one that's sold out. Oh, wow. Very perfect for holiday. Yeah. Okay. So this is on my list. I can't wait. I need to try this. Yes. And everybody go back and listen to our episode on the bright side too. That was a lot of fun. Yes. It aired on Friday, October 25th.
49:58It's a daily show. So that's why I'm giving you that very specific date. And we talked about everything from low contrast makeup to Beyonce's fragrance drop. We talked about some pop culture news items, like whether we would use AI to win an argument, things like that. That was great with Danielle and Simone. So thank you for hosting us.
