0:07Welcome to Breaking Beauty, the podcast all about the breakthrough people, products, and moments in beauty. We're your hosts, Jill Dunn and Carleen Higgins.
0:20Welcome back to Breaking Beauty, the podcast about the breakthrough people, products, and moments in beauty. I'm Carleen Higgins. I'm here with my divine co-host, Jill Dunn. Hey, Carleen and hey, PobFam and happy fall, I guess. A lot of people think that after Labor Day, we're in fall. But in fact, the first day of fall is September 22nd. So well, in my heart and probably in my mind, it feels like fall. But anyway, we are happy to be back on the mic together. And we have a really fun episode. You know, Carleen, we're going to have to get a recap of your whole Italy adventure. I believe we're going to do that in mid-September coming up soon.
1:01So everybody will have to stay tuned for that. So today we are jumping into a fall topic. This is your guide to the five hair looks defining fall 2025 with the wonderful, very Hollywood-esque Dimitri Giannettos. You've definitely seen Dimitri's work on red carpets and on the covers of magazines. he's the hairstylist behind some of the most talked about celebrity transformations of the past decade for big names like Gigi Hadid, Megan Fox, Kourtney Kardashian, Amal Clooney. His work is all over the Met Gala. He is just living on a plane and doing some of the most creative looks out there and setting trends.
1:42Dimitri is originally from Greece. Now he calls LA home. I really enjoy his Instagram as a beauty editor because he likes to coin these clever terms that make for the perfect headline, like the Valentine Bob, the glow out instead of the blow out, silver tequila for a hair color. It's like he just gets it. These are the things that are going to go viral. And what's next in beauty? Yeah. So it's kind of apropos. I feel like in the fall, people are looking to make a change with their hair. So whether that's haircuts, hair colors, updo is Demetri, he really does it all. And in this episode, you know, he's going to be talking about recession proof hair hacks and hair secrets behind celebrity transformations.
2:25And you're going to want to take notes and be texting your stylist afterwards. Yes. And we had the great honor of joining Demetri in LA earlier this year to celebrate his win as hairstylist of the year at the Daily Front Row Fashion Los Angeles Awards. So well deserved. And we had so much fun. Yeah, it was celeb watching a go-go. My head was on a swivel. Hayley Bieber showed up. Chapel Roan, Tyra Banks. We were like poking each other. We're like, oh my God, look, look, look. Jen Atkin was there. And I really love that they do these awards each and every year and take the time to celebrate glam teams because they are not often recognized.
3:06And I think it's wonderful that they are because they're such a huge part of the image making that is in Hollywood and on red carpets. And what's cool about that event is it's only really the winners who are these glam teams. And then they are presented the award by typically one of their clients. That's why you have all these celebrities in one room. But what you don't have is like a ton of other people, outsiders. So it just felt like it was so intimate and special to be in that small room. So a big thank you to the Moroccan oil team for flying us all the way to LA for that stargazing experience.
3:47And Dimitri received his award from Dixie D 'Amelio, who looks like a mermaid. She was so stunning. Yeah. I'm excited to try the new Moroccan oil treatment mist that just launched at Sephora as well. By the way, earlier this year, Moroccan oil launched a fine fragrance of their hair products, which I thought was a fascinating move because so many of my girlfriends, one of the major reasons they love Moroccan oil is because of the scent. Of course. So they bottled it up and they're selling it as a fine fragrance. So just a little FYI, everyone. Well, they're probably seeing all of these fragrance brands in Sephora who are launching hair mists and they're like, excuse me.
4:25This is our lane. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. So that's a great one for Argan oil if you do have fine hair like me. And with that said, just ahead, you're going to hear all about the it haircut of the season, including Dimitri's dream Vogue cover concept and what he dubbed the next viral bob. We're also delivering your fall hair color forecast from whiskey blonde to silver tequila. And the new rules of volume, including his three-step root lift hack and why Veronica Lake waves are making a major comeback, according to Dimitri, along with flipped bobs, modern finger waves, and retro styles that Dimitri is making cool and fun and young on people like Gigi Hadid.
5:12And you can watch this episode on YouTube as well. So don't forget to subscribe at Breaking Beauty podcast. That's right. 5:54Medicaid is one of our show partners this week. So Medicaid is a clinically proven British skincare brand known for age defying results. I've talked about them many times on the show before, and I really appreciate that all Medicaid's products undergo clinical testing and they really have impressive before and afters on their website. Everything is dermatologist recommended. and like me, you may have been hearing all about growth factors as the must-have anti-aging ingredient, but I just discovered the next big thing in skincare. And according to Medicaid, growth factors are naturally occurring proteins in the skin that support overall skin health and can help promote younger, healthier looking skin.
6:36However, growth factors applied topically are less likely to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin until now. And that's because Medicaid, they have just launched the Medicaid Liquid Peptides Advanced MP Face Serum, and it's powered by Growth Factor Mini Protein, which mimics the function of natural growth factors, but unlike traditional growth factors, is able to penetrate deep into the skin to visibly improve the appearance of skin structure over time, meaning a visible reduction on deep set wrinkles. And according to Medicaid, Medicaid's liquid peptide advanced MP face serum is clinically proven to diminish the appearance of expression lines in just 10 minutes and deep set wrinkles in eight weeks.
7:22So if you'd like to try this for yourself, we have a very special promo code. Medicaid's liquid peptides advanced MP phase serum is available online at Medicaid.us. That's M-E-D-I-K and then number eight.us. Use code BREAKING20 for 20 % off your order. Once again, that's M-E-D-I-K and the number eight.us and use code BREAKING20 for 20 % off your order. We'll link to this offer in our show notes and on our website. Now back to the show. I used to care so much about portraying a perfect life and acting like everything was okay when really things were far from it. I was secretly struggling with my mental health and wondering if other people were too.

8:37Hello, Dimitri, and welcome to Breaking Beauty Podcast. We're so thrilled that you're here. Thank you so much. I'm so, so happy. So honored to be here with you guys. Congratulations on your nomination and win for best hairstyle of the year at the Daily Front Row Fashion Los Angeles Awards. We were there last night. We were cheering in the back for you. So well-deserved. So tell us all about where your talent comes from and how you ended up on stage accepting an award from Dixie. From Dixie. From Dixie D 'Amelio. Like I'm in an O. I'm speechless of all hard work led to receiving an award and an honor award daily from Rome.
9:16If someone told me 13 years ago moving from Greece, I would have this moment. I'm like, someone pins me. But as I said yesterday, it wasn't that I wasn't expecting it. Like I always manifest. I always dream big. And moving in LA from Greece, I always saw it is coming. I always dream of it. I always saw myself thanking my mom and my dad and I have a speech. I didn't know it's going to be the daily front row, but like I couldn't be better. You said something about Oprah, didn't you? In your speech. What was that nugget that you were channeling? because I see, for example, my sister, she's kind of struggling to find her path, her way.
9:56And always I'm trying to advise her. So Oprah, on an interview, said they asked her, why do you think people don't succeed or they don't? What's the mistake? And she said that people don't know where they want to go. People, they don't have clear vision of where they want to go. And it's so true because only you can have the vision, only you can have the goal. So no matter what, what path you're going to take, if you have a clear vision, you're going to get there. If you don't have very strong personality, you can easily get lost. Someone is going to come to your life, is going to be, ah, why you don't try this?
10:36And then all of a sudden you want to be a hairstylist and someone is going to tell you, I love to do nails. It's in the same industry maybe. So I always had such a strong vision. Since I'm a little kid. So I've been doing hair now for 26 years. I'm 41. So I started in such a young age. Wow. Yes. I always dream big. So even there are going to come difficult times in life or what you want to achieve. If you stay strong and you're dedicated and work hard. Let's be honest. Like if you don't work hard, if you don't put all the work down. Yeah. Yeah. And how would you describe like your aesthetic or what you're known for in hair?
11:21And where does that inspiration come from for you? My aesthetic is I want to see people look beautiful, look themselves in the mirror, feel good, feel confident, no matter what it is. It can be like a bob, like very severe, like a Vidal Sassoon school, like geometrical. or it can be castle undone like the Kate Moss rock and roll cool texture so it's every person is different and here you have to highlight the personality of every person that's the most important I feel for me hair is art hair is like to talk with your client and figure out their personality and then the hair has to come and complete their personality make them feel confident make them feel pretty you cannot be in a box.
12:13You cannot just be like, oh, let's do this hair. It's not just hair. It's not, the hair has to completely, it's a continuity of someone's person's life. Yeah. So you're having it meet the moment too, right? Okay. So today we're going to talk about fall trends. What do you think the mood is for the upcoming season? Is there like a theme you think that, or a vibe that's kind of in the air for fall? A little more warm tones on color. Ooh, okay. Yeah, I would go and a little more volume. Yeah. Because we were in an era like everything had to be like very polished, very non-volume. Yeah. Clean girl aesthetic.
12:52Clean girl aesthetic. Stick it to your head. Stick it to your head, which was great. But literally, you have to have like the perfect features. Base card must be on 100. On 1 million. Let me tell you. Being a hairstylist for 26 years, ask me, everybody wants a little volume. Everybody wants a little lift on the bangs. 100%. And now, and here's the thing, like with all this, like stick to your head, all this very severe, strict, polished hair, like everybody has layers. Nobody has a hairstylist following them. Like make sure like one hair has not gone out of the way. It's good. It's going to look great on a picture.
13:32Yeah. But you want more convenient hair also. So, yeah, a little volume, a little more, a nice blowout. Like old school blowout. You cannot go wrong. And I have Moroccan oil with the Root Boost. You can have the amazing blowout. Because you need the volume. You need like also your hair to last. Yeah. Yeah. Now, let's pretend that you're doing the cover of September Vogue. You know, the big issue. I know, I know. My dreams. Right? So let's say that it's going to be a beauty shot and they've given you carte blanche to do whatever hairstyle for the September issue, something really directional that feels right.
14:13What would you do? Of course, I would go through the outfits to see like what's the mood board there, usually how we start. Yeah. We get the inspiration from the clothes. But yeah, I see for this whole winter a nice low-out volume Bob. Because with Bob, you can never go wrong. We want to follow the trend, but sometimes the trend can last one season. And then you see yourself, not even in 10 years, you see yourself in two years and you're like, what I was thinking. Like you see all, even to these days, like this ombre hair we had at an end. and you're like, oh my gosh, why I have black roots and blitz blonde?
14:56Not even the roots, like half your head. Yeah. So you won't always, the hair you're going to choose, obviously you're going to have a trend element, but be timeless. Yeah. Yeah, that's hard to pull off though, Dimitri. Like that's why it's like very evident to someone like you with your eye. Right. But yeah. Sorry to interrupt you. No. I think the volume, if you do a severe bob, it's hard to pull. Yeah. If it has a little movement, if you have a little volume, if you can flip your hair right and left. Because to be honest, it's so hard not to keep your hands in your hair. From all, all, all my clients.
15:35And I don't know, I admire her so much. Kim Kardashian, if you have to, if you're going to set the hair and it has to be there, she's not going to move it. Yeah. She moves her head instead. She goes like this. Yeah. She doesn't touch it. And I admire that so much. If I have a hair in my face, I'm going to go crazy. The other day, we did a look. It was like a bang in her eyelash, poking her eyelash. She's like, do you mind if we move that a bit? Or if it has to stay there, I'll handle it. Oh, wow. I'm like, oh my gosh, I would go crazy if I have it on my eyelash hair. That's discipline. Yeah. She's committed to the glam.
16:15Yeah. She's the best. Yeah, that's awesome. I adore her. That's so great. One of the things that I really like about your Instagram, I love how you with all of your looks, you have a little moniker that you give it like the Valentine Bob or the glow out. And it's so catchy. So I want to ask you for this like look you're envisioning for September, this blown out Bob. What what do you what are we calling it? What are we calling it? Oh, oh, oh, oh, that's hard. I know. Or like, yeah, because you've also like I've been again, I've been looking, but I've been creeping your Instagram and you did the Prada Bob.
16:51That was very sleek and minimalist. That was last year on Joey King. You did the French or the French Bob has been kind of trending. There's also the heartthrob Bob where it's like a bit shaved at the back. So, yeah, I'm wondering what's what's the haircut for all 2025? It's the Barbie Bob. The Barbie Bob. Yes, because everybody wants to look pretty, but the bob comes and gives a little more like elegance. Yeah. Yeah. It's a Barbie book because we talk about volume. So definitely a Barbie inspiration has the volume, but you keep it in a bob. So it's like a twist. Yeah. So the roots are voluminous, but the ends are more polished.
17:30What do you think? Not too straight. Okay. Like a round brass blowout, like a cool 90s blowout. Okay. And the color is very, very important. Color. The color. Yes. Talk to me. It's the combination. You have to find the right team. Because some people, the hair color is with a hair cutter or the hairstylist. They're going to compete. And let's say the color is going to give you the perfect highlights, the perfect balias. And then you're going to go to your hair cutter and they're going to chop it all. And they're like, where is his work? So you have to find, have the right team. it's a collaborative thing.
18:10So I like the bobs with nice contrast, but not to highlight. You need to have some face framing, a little lighter tones, but in the warm tones, a little more fall winter. Yeah. I've been loving the bobs on Khloe Kardashian, but also Gigi Hadid that you've been, like the flipped up bob. Yeah. And to your point about color, I think we're going to talk about this a little bit later, But because it's such like a retro looking Bob on Gigi Hadid. But then you've done like pink. You've done platinum. So it's silver tequila. Silver tequila. How good was this name? Oh, my gosh. My brainstorm. Like, literally, I'm going to go when it has to do with color because people love a nice name.
18:58Yes. Like, and I learned that from my mom. Like, I'm going to. I used to. expect to cut your hair. Like, can you give me a trim? I was like, mom, when? So, I remember from my mom since I grew up and I was, I had just started at the beauty school and she would be like, what is called this haircut? I was like, layered haircut and then I realized every person wants a name, wants to have a reference in their head. Like, ah, have the English toffee highlights. Yes. The iconic ones I did to Amal Clooney was so beautiful. Yes, that's why I came with the idea. And then I see all the beauty editors. Everybody loves to have a nice catchy name.
19:40Yes, we love it in a headline. It's so smart. You're a headline maker for sure. Thank you. So looking at the fall 2025 runway hair looks from Fashion Month, what are a couple of the looks that are inspiring you? What did you love about them? I love fashion. I love all the runaways. It's where the hair trends start. because if you see the designers, the people that design the clothes, they design also the hair. It's something I didn't know and I learned while I was doing in the fashion week, I was part of Guido Palot's team. Guido is the visionary. He is the person that taught me actual hair because coming from Greece, it's such a different aesthetic, it's such a different way you approach hair.
20:24And being next to Guido, it taught me the whole world. He's incredible. Incredible, incredible. So yeah, like something I learned there is when the designer is going to design clothes, they're going to design the hair, how they vision the hair for the next season. And it's incredible. Always depends on the collection. Yeah. And for this season, so many different ways you can go. Obviously, I like, we mentioned before about the Barbie bob, but also you can go on the other hand, like don't put too much effort. Make sure you have a nice haircut. And because everyday woman who has every morning time to go get a blowout to make sure your hair is perfect.
21:13No, like everybody wants something more convenient. So I feel the haircut is very important and the products. Yeah. It's interesting because we have come such a long way with like hair tools where, you know, with the Dyson Airwrap and everything where you can. And it is becoming a bit easier to achieve some of these looks that used to be like, you need rollers, you need hot rollers. It was a very intense process. And I read a Harper's Bazaar article titled, The Best Fall 2025 Hair Trends Our Editors Are Eyeing. And they said retro volume was one of them. And I noticed on your Instagram that you did like a three-step tutorial on how to get root volume.
21:55So maybe you could talk to us, like give us a little. Yeah, it's easy. My favorite is the Root Boost. We love Moroccan oil because you just in a towel dry hair, spray your hair with the Root Boost. It's like a more liquid form of mousse. Classic, the OG mousse is just like the new version. They update it. You put just on the roots. My secret is if the hair is very fine, I'm going to brush my fingers through the hair and I'm going to go a little lower. Just give this hold you on. Because back in the day, usually you would tease back on the hair and you don't want to have this weird texture. With the Root Boost, you have literally teasing without having the teasing.
22:41And then, yeah, you can just use a round brush. You can blow out your hair and you have this amazing, and you're going to flip the hair on the side. They're going to stick there without falling in your face. Yeah. And you were spraying quite close to the root, I noticed. Exactly. You can brush it through so the product goes everywhere. And then you're going to start doing a blowout. You can set the hair. If the hair is very fine, you can set it with clips and like old school rollers. But the product is so good, you don't even have to do that. Yes. What kind of brush? What's your favorite brush?
23:14Mason person. Yes. You cannot go wrong. For a blowout? A Mason person in general, for a blowout, I like the Moroccan oil has this metallic, which is easy, it's fast, and yeah, people are in their ass these days. Yeah, it heats up, right? So the metal. Exactly. The metal helps and smooths it up. Besides, it heats up and you have a faster blowout. Right. The metal literally protects the hair. And it holds the style. Exactly. So Lindsay Lohan is having a moment. You work with her and you did a cover of Vogue, I guess it's the Czech Republic. And it was kind of like Veronica Lake-esque. It was like, did you not name it the Upper East Blowout?
23:57The Upper East Blowout. Amazing. So what's the difference between this kind of waves versus like beachy waves or boho waves or that kind of thing? I'll start from there. It's so hard to do this hair. Like I was sweating. And for me, it's so easy to do hair, but this is literally, you have to have the skills. Not to brag, but you have to have the skills. No, brag, brag. Yeah, it's very editorially. It's not like if you're Kim and you don't touch your hair, you can maintain it. But yeah, it's more like an editorial look. It's more, if someone takes the risk and do it at an event, again, don't touch the hair.
24:40And it's a lot of preparation is the key. The way you're going to set the hair, definitely we're going to use the clips or the rollers there and the right products. Yeah. Yeah. What are you doing? Is it like finger waves or how did you actually make the waves? So I start, I give a round brush blowout with a very, very thin round brush. Okay. And then when I finish the round brush with blowing out the hair, I'm going to use an iron, one inch iron. And then I'm going to set every section, kind of pin curls, but with a curling iron. and when the hair are set, I'm going to let them cool down. I'm going to take my brush, the mason person, I'm going to brush all the way through and then it's how you sculpture the hair with your fingers, with your hands.
25:25You create the shape. Right. So you're kind of doing that at not the end, but it's like a finishing wave. It's the finishing. Yeah. Exactly. And you can set the hair when you brush it down with some clips until you get dressed, until you do, before you go on set. the pictures. Yeah. Yeah. It's very editorial and that's not something people can do at home, but there probably is some takeaway here where it's like inspired shape of it is about curling under now, as opposed to like when I was doing kind of boho waves, I, I always would remember this tip that I had, which was not to curl the bottom three inches of my hair, right?
26:02Because otherwise it would look too done kind of polished. So that's how I curled my hair for such a long is I left out the top three inches and the bottom three inches. Exactly, yeah. But now it just seems like with this trend and where we're going, it's really about curling under, right? Yeah. And so I wonder if you have some tips on like the size of the curling iron or is it a Velcro roller? No, I wouldn't suggest Velcro roller because always the hair gets so staticky. And if also I have another tip afterwards, but I would use just a silver clip to set the hair because the rollers can create some...

26:39Dents? Yeah, and between every roller, the hair is not even. You're going to have some bends on your hair, random bends, and you don't want them on the root. Right. So I just like to use the clips. And as I said, for the static, the secret is, you know these wipes they use for, they put in the laundry? Oh, yes. Dryer wipes. In the dryer? Yeah. Dry sheets, yes. Yes, the dry sheets. Dryer sheets, like bounce. Mm-hmm. If we want to give them a plug. Yeah. Use code beauty. No, I'm sorry. Exactly. Actually, you named it. Someone is competing here. Amazing. You just take it through the hair. Yeah. It keeps the hair so shiny and no stuff.
27:22Yeah. Perfect. Perfect. What's your favorite curling iron? I really like babyliss. Oh, yeah? Yeah, because you can adjust the temperature the way you want. And if you're in a crazy rush, you can just tap it in and it goes so fast. Yeah. It keeps up quickly. It's ceramic, so it's amazing. It protects the hair. You have, like, no issues. Yeah, okay. And do you, like, if you were in a pinch, have you ever used, like, a drugstore curling iron? Oh, let me tell you. Like, with all these flights every day, you're going to arrive in Paris. I remember I was planning to do Gigi. And literally from Chande Gaulle, I was going straight to her hotel.
28:01It never arrived. Oh, boy. You do what you've got to do. I was like, what's right across your hotel? Like this drugstore, let's get it all. Yeah. But again, if you have the experience, it's not the ideal to do, but if you have the experience, you will manage. Yeah. Yeah. Straight into Monoprix. Yeah. Get the Monoprix. Exactly. Yeah. Get the curling iron. Get the L-Net. Get the bucket with the ham and cheese. I was hungry after this flight. Let me tell you. Now, another look that you've kind of coined the name Bob, which I love, the flipped up bob, which is like I was inspired last night to do the flipped up bob.
28:39It's sort of come out now. But thanks to Moroccan oil, they did that for me. And I don't have a bob, but it was I still love the look. It's good to have an inspiration. You don't have to recreate exactly. It's just to get inspired and do it your own way. Yeah. I love the flipped up ends, though. I think it's so cute. Like Khloe Kardashian's little half up. Yes. And I love what you're doing with Gigi Hadid. So what's the trick for getting this look right? Like getting, you know, it consistent all around your head, the flipped up and making it stay. What kind of tips can you give us? Yeah. If it is a bob, the mistake people do, curl it outside.
29:18Okay. That's the wrong thing they do. You have to curl it inside, let it sit. And when you're going to brush it through, it's just ultimately going to flip. Oh, you brush it out and then it just flips? Just flips. So you curl it under and then you use your brush and then. Yeah. And it goes ultimately out. Okay. And then you hairspray it. And then if I want to, some people just want it to be like easy breezy. But always I like when I do a flip because it can go so big and out of control. And I like it to be in place. So I'm going to go saturate all the roots with hairspray. Not extra hold, like super strong.
29:57Like you're going to find a medium hold. Yeah. So I'm going to spray all the roots and then with my brush, I'm going to just brush it like I stick it close to your roots, but just on the back. In the front, you can have a little more volume and let it be a little more free. Yeah. Okay. That's very fun. I feel like I can do that. Curl under and then brush. I mean, I'm in. So we're kind of seeing a return to these tighter curls, like Marc Jacobs had them on the runway. Did you see that? Did you see? Yes, I saw. But I'm not the biggest fan. Let me tell you. You're not a fan? Tell us more. Yeah. Explain.
30:35This is a don't. Yeah. It can be. Like, I did it on, speaking of the Memoir, for the Vanity Fair after Oscar's party. But she was wearing this beautiful Gucci gold dress. It was like, and when I saw it, I was like, okay, Studio 54, girls. Yeah. Yeah. When is the theme? Okay. I'm all about it. But just see a girl on the street or a boy with a super ringlitty hair and an outfit like these days outfit, just not the look for me. If it's your natural texture, I'm all about is your natural hair curly and you just define that. Right. That's amazing. Yeah. But if you have straight hair or like a more chill texture and then you have the ringlets, it's not the look.
31:24Yeah. Okay. So we're not going out and getting tight perms. No, no, please do not. Okay. How low would you go in terms of the size of the curling iron in your kit? Like, what's the smallest? I have all of them. You do? Because, again, like I have people with texture hair. So I need to use, like, literally it's like a toothpick. Right. Not that small, but like a very small. If someone has like a 4C curly hair, you need that. Yeah, you need to touch up. To define, exactly. Yes, yes. Because the hair can get very freezy. So for this reason, but my go-to is one inch and one quarter. Yeah. That's like always.
32:00Sweet spot. Yeah. If I be on an island without anything, I'm going to get with me one inch and one quarter. And when it comes to updos, we were talking about this earlier, how, you know, maybe that clean girl aesthetic is kind of starting to be on its way out. But if you do want to do it and you have thin hair like mine, how do you like make it work for thin hair without having this gappiness along the scalp? Or do you have a hack for making like a ponytail or a bun look bigger? Here, I feel people have in mind, it's a ponytail. It's easy. Let me tell you, it's the hardest thing in the world to achieve.
32:42It's actually, speaking of we're transitioning from the super slick hair to more voluminous, ponytail, I like it to be slick. But it's very tricky how to achieve it. So I'm always going to do it on sections. Because there is no way in one go you're going to pull your hair up and you're not going to have any bumps. Everywhere is going to be slick. There's no way. So the secret is the way you're going to brush your hair, you need because we all need a lift on our face. We need like kind of our eyebrows to have the lift instead of like you brush the hair downwards. So usually I'm going to choose like the angle of my eyebrow with the end of my eye this direction and I'm gonna go all the way back kind of my ponytail is gonna be right above above the ears yeah this line and I'm gonna start in sections I'm gonna do it the tiniest ponytail in the middle of the crown of the hair and then I'm gonna start taking other sections and I'm gonna attach in my first small ponytail so you have control in this a way to manage any bumps, any like, be very slick.
33:47And I'm going to saturate the roots with the hairspray. I love the Moroccan oil hairspray because it's strong, but when you're going to brush it afterwards, it's going to go away. Your hair is not going to be like a helmet. So it's the way. And this day, the only trendy thing would be like a mid part, which I'm going to do like half part on the ponytail. I'm not going to go all the way back. And my other secret is if you have these little gaps on the hairline, I'm just taking an eyebrow pen and I'm just drawing some hairs. Oh, nice. Because all the powders that are out there or all the sprays are so thick.
34:29So it becomes like a wig. Yeah. And we all, even the wigs, we want them to look natural. We want, we're going to plug the hairline. So it's the same with your actual hair. You want the hairline to be a little more transparent, but not, Yeah, that's smart because you can like sketch in little hairs like you do with your brows. Which one do you use? I like the Anastasia Beverly Hills. The queen of... The pomade? Yes, yes. Like I love all of them because they have different colors. And again, let's say if you have black hair, I'm never going to use a black pen. I'm going to go on more espresso because on the hairline, it's always our hairline lighter.
35:07Right. So you're going to go lighter. Yeah, that makes sense. I love that. Okay, we need to talk about this silver tequila hair for G.J. Hadid and whiskey blonde for Joey King. Because this is, we talk to a lot of hair, talented hair people on our show, but not a lot they're doing color and that are styling. You're doing color as well. I'm Greek. Yes. To survive, we need to do all. Yes, yes. Extensions, color, haircut, hairstyle. So it's what I learned my whole career, my whole life. And before I moved here, I was working for 12 years. Yeah. And makeup. I was the ambassador for a big company doing hair and makeup.
35:46Oh, wow. Yes. So we learned, which I kind of like it because you have like a whole picture of what you want to create. Yes. Again, as I said before, some people get very comparative. Yeah, it's so crazy. Yeah, which I find is so silly. Like a makeup artist is going to have this vision to do a bold makeup. The hair has to be a little more, keep it down, like more simple. You don't need to have like all the hair, like the crazy updo and like the most bold makeup. Yeah. So for me, when I do both, I just have the vision. I know what I'm going to, what I want to do more strong and then have a balance.
36:22Yes. Back to the color, the same as I said before, like you don't want to do like the most beautiful highlights and someone chop it off. So I know where I'm going to go with when I combine and do all. And what are you using on Gigi when you're doing like the silver tequila or that pink? Like, is there a product that is your go-to? Is it just temporary? It's temporary. Yeah, it's temporary. Because I like when they're more faded. I don't like the colors to be very bold because to me it can become very custom-y. So I always like the pastels. I like the silver tequila. It's still faded. I wanted to match her dress.
37:02She was wearing the Louvre Gala in Paris. So it's so stunning, everyone. It's like very, very cool. And again, trying to combine as well. Because she likes the, we like the retro vibe on the hair, but with silver color or a pink color. Just becomes cool, becomes more modern. Yeah, it's a moment. Is there a brand you're using for that to get those temporary colors? I like the Joico a lot for the more transparent. and L 'Oreal Paris has these amazing pastel colors and you can easily do at home by yourself and has so much variety. Also, the colors we did with Megan Fox, the sky blue or the pink one I did.
37:45I do have a question for you just because we're talking briefly about hair color. You know, people are looking to save money. Like, I mean, I spent a fortune doing my stupid roots. And what's your best tip for doing your own hair color at home as a set of a box? Actually, L 'Oreal Paris launched the Color Sonic. Like it's a very like, oh, yeah, yeah. It's a futuristic device. It's amazing because usually when you want to do the color and you don't want to do the whole thing. You just want to do a touch up. Like some people have so many grays and they want to touch it up every week. Yeah. The hairline or like in your part.
38:18I read that Kris Jenner gets her hair done every second Friday, 5 a.m. It's like that's the dedication it takes if you do not want to see a gray. Exactly. Yeah. Because then when you use the temporary, the powder stuff becomes so stiffy and like the texture, nobody wants to put your fingers through your hair and like the fingers get the color. Yeah. But this Colorsonic device is you pop the color in and it mixes while you go. It doesn't get oxidized. Exactly. Looking for my English words. And you can reuse it like multiple times to touch up your hair and it does it all itself. Yeah. It's like it's got a little brush on the end, right?
38:54Exactly. And it's like you just put it on the roots and it kind of like vibrates or something. Yeah. Yeah. It's incredible. I haven't heard of this. Yeah. It was like a big thing came out at the Consumer Electronics Show maybe last year or the year before or something like that. It's genius. It is genius. It really is. It was 10 years from the development. Yeah, I need to try it though. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm always like, oh, my hairstyle is going to kill me. I do this at home. But sometimes it's a necessity. Yeah. And go one tone lighter. Yeah. Maybe two. Yeah. Because make sure like the grays are covered.
39:24It can be a little more pigmented. Yeah. If you go one shade lighter or two, it's going to be perfect. Yeah. And it's just a touch-up between the color appointments. Yeah. And I want to ask you what those fun hair colors, like the sky blue you did on Megan Fox and the pink and the silver tequila. Are they like sprays or are they wash-ins? They're wash-ins. Yeah. Colorista. Is that the name of it? Colorista. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. And it has to be in a blonde base. That's the only way it's going to look like soft. Yeah. That's what I was going to ask about, Megan. box. How did you get that to show up on her dark hair?
39:59Oh my gosh, it was a challenge, but we did it. Yeah. We started like not just all the way from black go to blonde and the sky blue because in the meantime, we went to red and from red, we went to blonde and she didn't stay with the blonde. It was just the foundation to do the pastels. Oh, wow. Yeah. Okay. And the last question, we talked a little bit about bedhead hair. What did you make of the Prada hair this season? It's kind of like recession hair for the rich. It was so messy. Very woke up like this. A bit undone. Yeah, like fuzzy. Like that. It's like you did a... That was total bad head.
40:37I like the little freeze, whatever we do. Because I worked, when I first time I worked with a big, big hairstylist, Stéphane Lancier from Paris, he told me something has to be out of place. When the hair is so perfect, it's boring. Yeah. the hair needs to have life. And I feel like as we saw on Prada runway, they have this freeze. The hair is alive. There's not like a helmet. Yeah. So whatever you're going to choose to do in your hair, at the end, just mess it up. Just get your hands in there. Put your hands like to do a mistake, like something is out of place, look more interesting. That's true.
41:21And always a freeze to me gives something, not crazy. you look electrocuted but like like if you brush the hair whatever hairstyle you do at the end gets this little freeze and I like it yeah amazing I loved what you said earlier too about thinking about the outfit and that kind of like the contrast the push and pull the push and pull because that's that's very that's a very editorial point of view and I don't know that people think about that much but like Prada the way we're talking about I mean if anybody wants to look it up it literally looks like they have bed head at the back. Yeah. But they're wearing very, you know, classic kind of 50s silhouettes that Prada would do.
42:03You need the contrast. So you need that contrast. Otherwise, you're just going to look kind of, you know, too literal. It becomes costuming. Exactly. Whenever you're trying to match everything, that's why I said before, I want to see the outfit. I'm not going to do a retro look with a retro outfit. Exactly. Never. Exactly. It becomes Halloween costume. Yeah. It's incredible. Nothing wrong about. And there are people like there are people of peanut or 50s. Yeah. Again, as we said at the beginning, it's hair, the continuity of your personality. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. But from my experience, always there need to be a contrast.
42:40If you have like a very severe outfit, keep the hair a little loose. Yeah. Yeah. If so much going on in your outfit, like that's why do a snuts ponytail. Keep it simple. Yeah. Yeah.
