In short

Fashion industry talk spanning Coachella celebrity styling (Dior/Loewe), Met Gala tech sponsor tables and red-carpet culture, the Devil Wears Prada 2 rollout, LVMH fashion/brand performance (Dior vs Louis Vuitton), and Hong Kong retail trends (Chanel dominating streets/malls; Dior less visible). Also includes commentary on AI editing, TikTok avoidance, and secondhand/Phoebe Philo resale.

Guests

Brenda Hashtag, a writer/influencer/editor. She previously worked at i-D? (O/32C mentioned) as fashion editor for about three years, then freelanced (including Vogue Germany) and now covers fashion via influencer/editorial work.

Key claims

Coachella has become a fashion-brand stage (Dior onstage; Bieber in Loewe). Met Gala tech tables reflect money/power and contractual constraints; red-carpet reporting is often sexist and stressful. LVMH earnings imply Dior is outperforming last year, while Louis Vuitton likely underperformed. In Hong Kong, Chanel looks more in-demand than Dior; Dior’s newness may take months to hit stores.

Notable examples

Sabrina Carpenter in Dior; Hailey Bieber in Dior vintage; Justin Bieber wearing Loewe; YSL “color is violence” quote; Saint Laurent as Met Gala underwriter/co-chair; bow bag hype at Dior; Phoebe Philo resale finds; McDonald’s “Saja boys” meal promo.

31Hello and welcome to Fashion People. I'm Loni Sherman, writer of Puck's fashion and beauty memo line sheet. And today with me on the show is writer, influencer, editor, Brenda Hashtag. We're talking Coachella fashion, the Met Gala's tech bros, the Devil Wears Prada 2, Salone, what people are shopping for in Hong Kong, and so much more. happy tuesday everyone hope you're having a great week i am prepping for caring's annual investor meeting they invite a lot of journalists i got a preview of the list of journalists and there are many people going i'm calling it fat de la caring you know about fat daily music i think that's what it's called anyway i'll be at this investor meeting on thursday so i will report back on fashion people on Friday morning and then in line sheet on Monday I'll have a big kind of deep dive report with original reporting and some good nuggets that you can't get anywhere else.

30Right now on line sheet you'll find Intel and what's going down at LVMH. The earnings were Monday night and reading between the lines. It seems super pumped on Dior. Sales in the fashion group were down I think nine percent on a reported basis, two percent on organic. That's quarterly, first quarter 2026 year over year change they seem super pumped on Dior they said like the bag is doing exceptionally well and they would the thing about these earnings reports is they don't share the actual numbers of the individual brands but they don't lie about how they're doing so they're saying Dior is doing well that means it is doing better than last year uh they didn't say anything about Louis Vuitton in terms of performance, which means probably not great.

15Obviously, that's relative. They're still selling a gazillion billion dollars worth of stuff, but I think there's some work to be done there, and I talk about that online sheet. I also share more on the fate of Nina Ricci, a little Aliyah Jeans review, and there's lots going on, but let's get going with Brenda. Brenda hashtag welcome to fashion people I'm so excited to be here I am so happy to be here I think that I sent you some notes of what I maybe wanted to discuss today and I think you might be the first person who's responded with like really intelligent feedback or any feedback at all I appreciated it someone did this to me recently where they just replied to my bullet points within the email so that this is my new vibe i loved it i was like oh great she actually like wants to do this and is excited it made me so happy um i'm super excited i i should have i should have maybe sent talking points before so lauren emailed me like a five bullet point list one of these was dolce and gabbana and i as an influencer have no opinion on that whatsoever I saw that was like blank.

29Dolce & Gabbana biz potential, blank. Everything else, boop, boop, boop. And you're reporting them very much interested. So I'm following that. But this is kind of a brand where as a journalist, you would report on everything. But as an influencer, from my perspective, this is a brand where you would want to be paid to be there. You know, I agree. Well, you know, it's funny. They are known as for banning journalists from their shows. I have not been banned but I haven't requested it in like two seasons because I just it got to the point where I was like I don't think I can write about this anymore and so I assume that maybe I would be I don't know if I would be banned at this point but um it's just interesting because I'm like would would I still be banned or not I I do I'm a real big fan and when when I used to be a blog when I ran a blog called Fashionista in 2010, Dolce & Gabbana had like a TV show that they used to do on YouTube, which I forget what the name of it was, but I was interviewed for it.

31It was really fun. And like they had everybody backstage and they were so nice and there's so much food and they interviewed all the quote unquote bloggers for it. And it was really fun. And I have good memories. Well, I think because there's not many people that I follow that would still go there. It also means you're kind of missing out on the fun reporting. The highly generous backstage and everyone thought the show was late because of her, but it actually was. Like all of these things, I don't hear about the real facts because no one that I follow goes. So I'd be interested in like a scene report.

07Well, you know, it's funny. I did go to that show and I wrote about it. And afterwards, I got an email from someone being like, it wasn't because of her. I was like, sure. Now we care. We have too much airtime already. Yes. Yes. Let's move. Let's move on to Coachella. So last week, Steph Jatka was on and she mentioned she's like, I want to talk about Coachella. And I thought, why? And she explained that like the stage, the Coachella stage has become this big opportunity for fashion brands. And lo and behold, she was correct. Like there was a ton of Dior on the stage. There was also Bieber was wearing Loewe.

47Do you follow Coachella? And what do you think about the actual performers like really going hard on the high end fashion, capital F fashion? okay i have only kind of been aware of this because i listened to yours and steph's episode on the plane yesterday and a pacific kase airways actually has really good wi-fi so then i watched the live stream of justin bieber's performance but kind of only because you two got me in the mood i am because i'm also kind of sometimes counted as press i get all the press release emails so i thought you know the i don't know the blah blah blah wore chanel on the red carpet i didn't get any emails about coachella so far neither from dior nor from anybody else so i don't think that what's the brand's reporting on that did you get interesting no i actually let's see okay because i checked my inbox this morning because i get all of these yeah the bulgare the whatever the red carpet but then i have not received any coachella no loeve definitely Haley noted that Bieber was wearing Loewe.

56Yeah. Let me look. Okay, because I didn't get anything. This is something that Sarah Shapiro from my team. Clocks everything. Yeah, and she was like, Sabrina Carpenter in Dior and Haley Bieber in Dior Vintage. Okay, so the Dior Vintage would not, yes. Tab Vintage is confirming, but that was 98 Christian Dior Silk Mini purchased from Tab Vintage. And then, let's see, I guess the Hailey Bieber, so that was not Runway. And then the other bit was Sabrina Carpenter in Dior. Let's look it up. Yeah, so the Hailey Bieber thing, obviously that means she's not in like an exclusive YSL contract. I know that Kylie Jenner wore, because I follow her stylists, wore some vintage Chanel, but she also is not an ambassador.

54So I think whatever the vintage is, is never really affiliated with the brands. It does look like Sabrina wore Dior, and I believe she does, yes, to Coachella. I don't, honestly, I might not be, I am on a few Dior press lists, but I may not be on their, like, wore celebrity list. I'm on like enough red carpet outfit reporting. I think I just might have been not on that list for a while. I'm definitely on their like makeup list. Right. Of like when there is the look that someone, let's see, Dior, Sabrina Carvinder. Yeah. So the only performance I really watched was Justin Bieber. And I watched the entire thing before I landed in Germany yesterday.

42and yeah I actually started crying so I don't know it was good yes I'm I'm not the biggest believer I'm also in this weird age group where I was a bit too young for the Backstreet Boys and like the same as Justin Bieber so you know your crush is like a bit like when you're 13 or 12 like a bit older so I didn't have the huge obsession with any kind of and too old for One direction so I didn't really have the super obsession with anyone there but I thought him singing to his younger version on set I thought that was beautiful yeah I didn't watch it but maybe I should I did clock the the images though I find him a very compelling figure I also have that I was very into new kids on the block but I found Backstreet Boys and NSYNC to be a little bit too well I think they're probably a couple years older than me but like it felt too Too close to home.

36Yes. It's like very into the new kids as a seven-year-old. I think there's so many people who have these weird ages where just you're a bit too old for these or a bit too young. So I never had this super obsession. I like these Loewe boots, but I'm also not, I don't know. Yeah, it's fine. I'm also interested in how his brand continues to develop because it's doing very well. It feels like a little bit of Yeezy light, but I wonder if he'll be able to make something of it. Me and everybody who's ever in the last 15 years purchased anything from Yeezy are getting text messages and emails like five times a day.

12And you can't really unsubscribe because he's trying to push some kind of product again right now. Oh, my God. Did you hear about this April Fool's joke that he was going back to Adidas? No. Yeah. So there was Adidas. Sorry. There was a April Fool's joke. But then it proliferated because one of the biggest shareholders in Adidas owns an album. Wherever his album is the music guy who owns the company that's going to produce his album. I know. Look it up, people. A major shareholder in Adidas, or Adidas if you live anywhere other than the U.S., is the person who's producing or distributing Kanye's new album.

08And so a friend of mine heard this from someone in the music industry. And then I asked some Yeezy adjacent people, and they were like, that was an April Fool's joke. And then I had Malik Morris. I was like, why don't you just look too? I think it's not real, but I think it was an April Fool's joke because obviously like he cost them so much money and yet they could both use each other's help right now i feel like but he will not he will not back down he's not going away that's i need to keep up with any good um april fool's day i'm not a fan of april fool's day i hate it never hate it it's one of the dumbest things in the world thank you it's so stupid please stop people like it's not funny yeah you can't really do it right it always has a bit of duolingo marketing energy.

59Yeah. It can be kind of cruel and it's not helpful. Like this wasn't helpful. I spent probably 10 minutes of my life that should have been spent doing something else, trying to figure out if it was real. And I shouldn't have had to. I had to bother someone who I don't want to bother a lot about it. It just is, it's just rude. So everyone needs to stop. It needs to end. What else did you observe looking around? Yeah. I mean I think at this point on my explore page you you can never ignore Hayley Bieber so I I saw a lot she looks so gorgeous she is so gorgeous and then the pimple patches but I don't know is it a collab between her and Justin or Justin's brand and her brand I'm not fully aware but that's something you can't ignore I'm always I always get the yeah all the various vintage shops who credit their whoever stylist bought a dress for whoever but yeah that's about it for Coachella for me on hailey bieber the new salon rock campaign just came out and anthony vaccarello just posted it and she is the star and it is really good she looks hot i mean i think it's one of the best ambassador she's been with him for four years five years for a long time right yeah and i think nadia lee cohen shot it maybe is that possible yeah i mean it makes sense nobody had to leave LA probably yes yeah it was shot by Nadia Lee Cohen and she's wearing blue and someone I haven't looked at I haven't read this but there's something where Anthony Baccarello apparently says that color is violence which I think is so funny because he does color when he does color he does it so well like a couple of seasons ago it was so colorful and I felt like commercially it really worked but she's wearing blue in both shots and she looks amazing she's wearing a bathing suit in one of them and she's wearing and they're in some yeah they're definitely in LA in some like chic house but it is she her hair color is perfect like I would like this hair color maybe I should take this to my hairdresser and say this is what we're gonna try to do for summer it's like slightly lighter than mine okay I'm gonna screenshot it right now I think it's a perfect it's a perfect ambassadorship I also love that they're always whenever you speak to anyone YSL for any credits that they're forcing you to use YSL by Anthony Baccarello.

22I don't know what's the point of that. It's interesting. They used to do this at Valentino too, when they would talk about shoes and bags, it would say Valentino Garavani for the shoes and bags only. There must be some, like either when the person, because Givenchy was the same way with Riccardo Tisci, they must like write it into the contract or there must be something with the brand itself like the valentino garavani was only used for shoes shoes and bags right so why there's there must be some sort of like either someone's writing that into a contract or there's some brand differentiator or something but yes it's very interesting is ysl beauty license yeah okay so maybe yeah I don't know I just I requested something for O32C and they just they're so specific about the and you have to say bye Anthony yeah I mean this is rigor this is rigor how long have you been doing the stuff for O32C I was the fashion editor I was there for three years and became the fashion editor after maybe a year before that I don't know if I had any title and then I left a year and a half ago to go freelance and was writing for a bunch of Vogue Germany I did a Vogue Italia cover story but you as an external person you don't really learn anything if you're just pitching stuff or I don't know I also maybe this is a confidence thing but whenever I would send a text to someone and then the editor of whatever magazine wanted to cross something out I didn't argue back and forth because I'm I'm an external person I don't want to I don't know and I just realized I'm not a I missed O32C but I just didn't learn anything because you you know you just submit your text and then there's two three edits and there's a bunch of changes at O32C there's about to be a new art director and there's a bunch of stuff happening and I fit in talks with them to go back maybe since December and then yeah so it's only been a month actually and i've been traveling yeah i'm very excited i think i'm yeah like 70 an influencer but even there the more successful you get you have a management everybody is taking care of you you don't really get a lot of pushback from clients or at least i'm not being delivered the pushback from clients and i think when it comes to personal development you have to really go out there and seek it and i'm i just miss being part of a team to be honest yeah yeah i understand that i think that the more successful you get the less people say no to you and that in every field and so the the only way to get better at stuff is to like be challenged and so it's i understand i understand that i don't know where desire you talked about maybe it was on the cutting room floor but you were you were also talking about editing a few weeks ago and i had submitted a little text for system magazine for the subsec and this was two months ago and it came out in the same week where and they were asked i think subsec sponsored every like this newsletter of system magazine or something and they were asking me about to talk about how great subsec is and why i love the platform but i went into this kind of rant that everybody's writing is getting worse and so is mine you know because nobody I'm not writing with an AI tool so nobody is sending my text back to me like you're whatever you're saying is not clear here or you make your point more and yeah so I really missed having someone even though I hate feedback but I missed someone to yeah the nice thing about the way we edit at puck is that there is no feedback they just edit it and if I don't like it I just go back in the history and re-put my thing in it's like a really passive aggressive process but it's my favorite because there's not really we don't have time because we put we publish so much there's not a ton of back and forth and they're great editors and so you get the benefit of seeing how the changes they made but you also don't have to like do it's it's an interesting it's it's very luxurious for a writer because you get the benefit of editing but not the like, can you change that?

45Can you move that around? Can you say this in a different way? Very rarely. So it's a fun way to operate. But yeah, the editing, I mean, maybe AI will change that. My husband uses AI to edit all the time. I don't use it for anything. I just want to throw my phone out of the window if I have to ask Chetubuti, can you check that again? And it's like, oh I'm sorry here's the I hate it I hate it I can't I can't do it yeah it doesn't I'm not bothered by it but I'm also like my whole thing with it is if I need it for something I'll use it I'm not gonna like become an expert on how to use it because I think like you learn how to use it as you go along and I'm not afraid of it I understand why people bristle at it and and are But my my bigger thing is I'm not going to like spend a bunch of it's not like I learned how to send emails.

43Right. You know what I mean? Like it's just if it's going to be a part of our life, it's going to be a part of our life. And on the other hand, I have I haven't resisted TikTok, but I just don't engage with it. And I think that that's actually a failing on my part. Like as a reporter, it would be helpful for me to be on there a bit. but I just don't have, like I can't click my brain onto it for some reason. Right. I don't know why. Yeah, I'm kind of flopping on TikTok. I'm posting through the pain, but also I feel like the app knows that I'm not passionate about it and that I don't spend any time there myself, so it punishes you.

20Fascinating. Fascinating. K-pop demon hunters, Haja Boy's Breakfast Meal and Huntrix Meal have just dropped at McDonald's. They're calling this a battle for the fans. What do you say to that, Rumi? It's not a battle. So glad the Saja boys could take breakfast and give our meal the rest of the day. It is an honor to share. No, it's our honor. It is our larger honor. No, really. Stop. You can really feel the respect in this battle. Pick a meal to pick a side. Ba-da-ba-ba-ba. And participate in McDonald's while supplies last. When beloved family patriarch Gary Ferris went missing, his family looked everywhere on their property until they came across something horrifying.

04It's a homicide. Absolutely. The blame game in this family went round and round. This is Blood is Thicker, the Ferris wheel. I don't see how anyone can look at this story and think they were happy. Follow and listen to Blood is Thicker, the Ferris wheel on the free Odyssey app or wherever you get your podcasts.

27speaking of punishment oh god how do you feel about do you feel bad for the people that have to sit with the met gala are you going to the met gala are you part of one of the tech tables no i mean i'm really fortunate enough that the team of the costume institute likes me so i'm I'm usually invited to the morning of the Met and I love to attend that. Same. I agree. I do as well. Please invite me again this year. So I think this is like such a fabulous morning to go at 10 a.m. or 9.30 of the day of the Met and to see the exhibit before anybody else. And I think they always make a huge distinction between this is the Kostum Institute and this is the Met Gala.

10Met Gala itself. I also don't do red carpet reporting. I think there is space for that online, but it's also not something that I find particularly interesting, whether or not a commentator liked someone's dress. I also think there often is such sexism involved. And I don't know, it just triggers me in a way of, remember just reading InStyle 15 years ago, like who wore it better? I don't know. I think if there is a backstory of a designer and a stylist collaborating on something or having a reference, that interests me. But anything else, not really. Yeah, I like writing about the red carpet and talking about the dynamic between the brands and the celebrities and the ones that have personal style and the ones that don't and who's paying, who's not, all of that stuff.

06I would not go to the red carpet. Years ago, I covered the cocktails a couple times, which was interesting. But I think it's fascinating that they have all these tech sponsors. Personally, I understand the logic in it. These are the companies with a ton of money. Oh, absolutely. And Anna Wintour raises an insane amount of money for the Costume Institute that no one else in the world could ever do. And if these are the people who are going to pay. It is interesting, though, to think about the tables. They don't invite a lot of people who would be categorized as creators. So who sits at the OpenAI table?

47I have no idea. And that also is like, Instagram meta, is that a political statement? I don't know. Everybody uses it. I think OpenAI, that's like a little bit more of a political statement. I personally would want to sit with ShopMai. Shout out to them. They are the best. But it'll be interesting to see who sits with them. Like, it's not a place where there are tons of shopping influencers invited. Like, Emma Chamberlain will be invited. Like, that type of creator. Is she at the dinner or is she on the red carpet? I don't know. I assume that she's been invited to the dinner before. Really? Yeah, I think so.

30Okay. I mean, from my friends who've ever been invited, this is all designers, they never got to choose which table to sit on, you know? So each person or each company that buys a table, I think Anna Wintour gets maybe one seat there for a young designer and they would just allocate it. And also those young designers who then get to go and bring one celebrity, that celebrity is allocated to them as well. So they don't get to choose that either. yeah it's interesting and i wonder um yeah i don't know i i think it's when you when you look at you the power of the met you can't deny it like there's it's culturally significant a lot of times the red carpet is seen more than the oscars red carpet like it depends on the year sometimes oscars are bigger but on the other hand you know when i talk to industry people a lot of them are kind of like, what does this mean anymore?

27It's complicated. It's a powerful tool and it's, you know, they raise a lot of money, but it also brings up like a lot of questions about our society and that, the mix. And coincidentally, speaking of Anthony Vaccarello, Saint Laurent, I think he's a co-chair and Saint Laurent is one of the underwriters this season. So, and it's all about the body so I think that we're going to see a lot of Saint Laurent I bet there will be a lot of vintage Saint Laurent too but it'll be fun to see how people use it and what they end up wearing and all of that right wait do you think that's going to be vintage if they're yeah usually like when Chanel did it it'll be a mix because not everybody they're not going to dress everyone they'll only dress a select amount of people and then usually when it was chanel and carl it was like chloe chanel chloe chanel carl lagerfeld i i think we'll see some vintage saint laurent as well um mixed in by people who probably like would not get loaned or or custom dresses maybe some of the like few billionaires left to go who aren't buying tables or whatever they do exist i mean i think it's always difficult for other brands to be i don't know i remember when it was yeah chanel theme it's difficult for other brands to then want to be involved i know from the celebrity side sometimes it is so worth it all of that exposure but i also know a few people who I've talked to that found this kind of red carpet way too stressful because it's not a step and repeat it's a step and repeat from all kinds of sides you know your film the the minute you you step in there there's 300 reporters waiting it's live streamed I think even as a celebrity who are who celebrities who are experts in this I think it's a nerve-wracking thing to do that may be a kind of scrutiny that you don't want to put yourself through it's true I feel like at this point you have to have someone there there are these um movement trainers or movement specialists who think part of their job now is to help people on the red carpet like not look awkward which i need i think it's also such a fascinating job because now there's movement directors even for a magazine cover you know which is still like a lot of yeah yeah don't know how to move every runway has a movement director now yeah like a really fascinating job uh what did you think speaking of red carpets what did you think about the beginning of the devil wears prada rollout that started last week i have not been paying so much attention yet i mean i obviously saw the one look from the chanel metier dart show they yes it was good she looked amazing well i already wore that to the last show right or to the last couture show i felt like that was i have no it's possible but i thought meryl streep looked amazing and i thought it was really cool and did you did you do you write reviews on a vote cover do you write about that i did write about it i wrote you know if i and maybe i talked about this with phil picardi on friday a bit but i was challenged by it.

53I understand why they did it and I think again, this is another example of Anna Wintour understanding like this is what the culture is now and she is a caricature of herself and she's sort of leaning into that. Give the people what they want? Yeah, but on the other hand, is this like inspiring? No. Like, I'm sorry. It's not. I don't, and also I don't care about this movie. Like It was never of interest for me. I was talking to Phil about this on Friday. Again, I don't want to repeat for anyone who listens to both. But the movie is fine. I was never that engaged with the movie in the first place.

33It didn't make me, I don't know. I'm going to go see it with my friends. We were all fashion writers together like 15 years ago. But maybe I relate too much to that girl. I don't know. I just, I was never, but I was never an assistant. So that is also, I just can't relate. I'm a September issue person, not a Devil Wears Prada person. So September issue is something I can rewatch every few months. The Devil Wears Prada. Yeah. I think I'll go see it, but it's not really. Yeah. But the, the numbers, even on Instagram, on that Vogue cover, it was, I don't follow any Vogue accounts. You know, I'm just, it's not my, I don't care really what the posts are about, but it has a million likes.

23So I'm wondering where this to me that that is astounding. Yeah. And it's so there clearly is a value in it. Do I like it? No. Like, that's what I think. I think that's the there's a good piece by the cultural critic James Wolcott in airmail this past week where he's basically just like it's appalling that Anna did this. And I don't feel that strongly. Like, I understand why I just and I also understand that Vogue is a really big brand and she needs to figure out how to monetize it in this era. It's just not what I want from a publisher, a media, a piece of media. I want something that feels like it's new and inspiring and is going to get me excited about in the way the new Chanel has.

12Like that that is broad reaching and and attractive to a lot of different people. But it is also it is also feels new. And this just didn't feel new to me. So we'll see. Best of best of luck to them at all. Or not even kitchen up. Like it was just blah. Spring Black Friday is on at the Home Depot. Save on grills and patio sets that will be sure to bring your hosting game up a notch. Fire up your feasts with help from the Home Depot and save on grills. Like the next grill four-burner propane gas grill was$249, now in special buy for$199. Or give everyone the best seat in the yard with the Hampton Bay Mayfield Park four-piece conversation set for only$399.

54Save on grills and patio sets with low prices guaranteed during Spring Black Friday, only at the Home Depot. Now through April 22nd, while supplies last. Exclusion supplies to Home Depot dot com slash price match for details. In a classroom of sodas, most stay quiet. Then there's Mr. Pibb, sweet cherry, bold outbursts, the kind of flavor that gets attention. Bold kick of cherry. And you're Mr. Pibb. So speaking of new, you were in Hong Kong last week. Yes. And you said you saw everyone in New Chanel, but not in New Dior. But I'm curious, like, what are people buying there? What were people interested in?

37Do you go there frequently? Like, what were your observations? I was kind of just there for Art Basel. But a few of my friends are with Landmark, which is a big landowner in Hong Kong. But they do these. Yeah, every big brand kind of goes through a mall. So it's not a shop and shop, but you even an Hermes is kind of with with a gigantic mall and has its own building there. So I was asking my friends, like, what's selling and what's not selling? Because when you travel in this moment, most of the big advertisements I see is a Margot Robbie for Chanel Beauty. But it's a lot of Dior in all of the airports.

12It's like six billboards at the same time with the Dior girls on the sofa and it looks beautiful. But on the streets and in the malls, I see women really head to toe in Chanel. the blazers there the full runway look and i mean i've been traveling so much the last few months but even just all of us being in paris and the chanel store being just packed and i still see that weeks after and i don't see anybody with a new dior bag yet and you know the things launched at the same time i think his big push at the beginning of the year was this bow bag I've never seen it in real life. So I'm wondering.

53Yeah, I was talking with my friends if maybe he because I still don't fully understand the choice of starting with menswear, starting the big debut with a menswear collection. I also think there was actually a bigger hype than I thought for menswear Dior Kim Jones. And it was especially big in Asia. You know, there was always a logo. There was a lot of glitter. Kim Jones is very big in Asia. Very big in Asia. And I think when I don't, you probably also sometimes went to the Reese's for the men's and it was on the same day that the clients did their buying. So you saw the kind of, yeah, the kind of man that was buying Kim Jones Dior.

30And I think for those clients to get attracted to Jonathan Anderson, which is very for a skinny, mostly white like man, I'm not sure what kind of products they would be into at Dior in this moment. So, yeah, I'm not really seeing a lot on the streets yet. And of course, the collection that we all love just now obviously will take another five months to hit the stores. Yeah, I think, look, the LVMH earnings are going to be published within the next hour. So at the top of this episode, I will do a little summary of them for the listeners. But I think from what I've heard from people in the market, it's selling pretty well.

18It was also the brand was did not sell well last year. It was down a lot. So like, of course, it's coming up because there's newness and there is some excitement around it. I think the big difference between something like a Chanel and a Dior and I again, I have a piece that is potentially going to come out on yesterday. so on Monday but it might not if there's breaking news so I might hold it basically about like I don't think it's really about Dior versus Chanel I actually think it's Louis Vuitton versus Chanel and I can go into that but I think the thing is the customer has just he basically had to start from scratch he wasn't going to be able to the old client was not going to stay and I mean that's not necessarily true but it was if the old client was staying it was he he or she was going to come for a different reason than they came for kim jones and maria grazia so i think that's the first thing second it was way overexposed prior to jonathan getting there so like there was too much product in the market and both of those designers despite the fact that like their time at the at dior had run its course had really loyal followings.

37So all of that together of him having to essentially rebuild it, it's going to take a while. Like I think you mentioned this last collection and that we all really loved it. And I did think the last two women's collections were like, finally, it was like super clear what the clothing was going to look like. I think the marketing and imagery and stuff has been really, really good. But I think it's going to take even more time. He's already changing sort of like the set displays in the store, but there's going to be probably more changes to the store design. There are so many things that he still is not touching or only is semi-touching.

17And I think it's going to take at least a year, if not two or three, for it to really develop into something. And he needs to have a hit product. So the shoes and bags are good. I think the bow bag is cute. And I know people who are interested in it. And And in L.A., you see that kind of stuff more. And I saw a lot of the book bags when I was still in L.A. But I do think that the Chanel phenomenon is so unique to this market that it is making everything else look like, wow, we're in trouble. Whereas I think that's actually an anomaly, and the rest of it is the reality of how the world works now.

59But, yeah, it's interesting. I mean, it really is. It's not like Brian Boy and I were talking about this. Like, it's not like when Alessandro did Gucci and the whole market just blew up. And like, if you didn't like Gucci, you were wearing Balenciaga or Virgil at Vuitton or Phoebe at Celine. Now there's just like Chanel and a little Phoebe. and that's all anybody is wearing and that just reflects our culture right now and it's complicated and I think it's crazy for someone like Jonathan Anderson to have to do this all in the public eye like all those collections all this work all this different imagery and look I'm sure he's getting paid very well and he accepted the job and they believe in him they will stand behind behind him and they will make sure he's successful but um it's not from from a like you go to the mall and you see people everybody's wearing chanel right now i mean i don't think i expected this big of another wave especially within because it's not so often that industry people and clients are aligned also the clients don't really care what the industry people wear you know we're kind of a lot of us are just talking to ourselves and the client looks somebody completely else so i think that is really i even i went into the chanel store but then i didn't buy the kind of bambi looking ballet flats anyways oh they're cute only i think the only retail price product i bought last year was actually a phoebe one of the gig bags that everybody has it's fabulous it's so good and i'm a second hand only person or at least like a friends and family discount person and that's straight off the website it's good it's good she's it's Her stuff is, who was I talking about this with the other day?

53They were like, well, what are you buying? And I said, well, I'm not buying anything right now because I bought something from the Chanel. I got that Chanel jacket. But when I was still shopping, I mean, mostly vintage. And then I have like, I bought two Phoebe belts in January. When I am looking at stuff, I am looking at Phoebe as the thing that I would maybe buy. I have a couple pairs of pants from last year. Like it does feel, she's just really good at making stuff that feels, and I still have so much. My trench coat is Celine. I have trousers from Celine era. I have my one chunky big sweater is Celine.

33These are all things that like I've owned for over 10 years now. And I still wear every season that they're appropriate. So there is something about the way she designs that makes it easy. And also the price, like that gig bag's not cheap, but compared to a lot of the other bags on the market, it's like - It's fine. I mean, yeah, compared to everything else and it's pretty recognizable. Can I show you a product I just received this morning? So I have my search notifications for old Selena on the RealReal, on this tier, on anything. And I finally have these toe heels. Oh my God, they're so good.

10New, unworn. I still can't believe, this is 10 years old. Sometimes I buy shoes. and they haven't been won. So I'm just like, is it an old employee that just like finally is getting rid of whatever they had from their discount? I'm so excited to wear these. So good. I'm really happy for you. I also, it is the amazing thing about secondhand is it really can make your dreams come true. If there's something that you want on the market, someday you will be able to find it. And I've been slow on, but finally now there's some Phoebe Philo trick, like from her own brand trickling in. because now, I mean, the brand started with, we're never going to be wholesaling and now they're everywhere and huge collection of My Teresa.

51So I feel like in the next few months, I'm finally getting them on the secondary market. I agree. I am looking for the Phoebe Philo stirrup pants. If anyone finds them in a size, like I think I would probably be a size 40, I'm available for them. So if anyone sees them. I'll provide social notifications. Okay. Yes. Thank you. Brenda, this was so fun. Thank you for being here. where are you where are you going next what's your next adventure I have my first week at home in Berlin since like five six weeks which is really exciting I am going to Salone next week because I have a big job me too and very excited I always think as a fashion person these things are kind of humbling the things that aren't fashion week and I think that's good for us you know so I'm doing Salone and two weeks after I'm also doing Venice Biennale I think we fine we need you know We need non-fashion things.

44Yeah, I have an Audi Zaha Hadid job next week at Salona. Yeah. And RIP. So I'm excited for that. RIP for real. She was a great dresser. Ah, amazing. I feel like I'm going to wear some Malaya or something. I don't know what she would... Have you been to Salona before? Yes. What do you wear? Because I'm like, I'm not a pleats please person. Yeah, it's a lot of pleats please. I think it's kind of similar to an at Basel where you want to disguise yourself as not a fashion person. Yeah, I don't know what I'm going to do. Art people and the design people look down on the fashion people. So you don't want to be...

23What do I wear? Well, let's check the weather. Usually it's pretty warm already. So I might have my toes out in my new Phoebe old Celine heels. Obviously, Milan is a lot of cobblestones. So I feel like the new Chanel shoes would be perfect. yeah I don't have any new Chanel shoes but I am a pretty modest shoe wearer I'm more concerned about I just like I was like can I wear jeans to stuff I just don't understand what the kind of vibe of it is but we're having a dinner and cocktail on Tuesday so you should come to the cocktail if you can I'll send you the info you're like cocktail but no dinner no you're you can come to the dinner I just feel like everybody has so much shit that like you do a lot of you do a lot of these right the the private dinner yeah yes this one is really fun this one is with our friends at shop my so it'll be fun it'll be fun and they're very chill partners like they just want to meet people and you know they're very nice and cool great you can talk to them about it well i was a ltk girly and now i'm a shop my girly but do you see the sales in real time or do they come like weeks after you know I don't pay attention very closely to ours because we don't for a while we were doing tons of it and then we just sort of I was like this doesn't feel I occasionally like I mentioned the alaya jeans that I tried them on and I linked to a pair and we'll use and when we use like books or if there is something like today I mentioned when I wrote about Dolce & Gabbana on Monday I linked to three dresses on the real real and we'll use a link an affiliate marketing link for that but i don't pay super close attention because i just don't think we can sell like if i mentioned high sport pants they can sell a bunch of them but because it's not our like main i don't monitor it as closely as i do say like how many people signed up for line sheet this product okay that type of thing but um but i do think from covering LTK and before that, whatever it was called before that, I forget.

32And also Shopmai. I just think it's smart the way that they've managed it, which is that pretty much anyone can get one of these because everyone's an influencer in a certain way. And they are driving a lot of value for brands and also for creators. So I think that they are smart. But I'm excited that you'll be at Salone and we can it's a super fun week it's really it's a super fun week I think it's very busy and people put too much stuff on their calendars so I wouldn't do more than like five things a day is already like a real commitment okay and there's a bunch of fashion stuff going on Gucci Jill Zander is doing I mean I think everybody's doing yeah I feel like I need to go to all the fashion stuff and write about that specifically and then I don't really understand outside of the fashion stuff what I should go to.

24But maybe the universe will just present itself. I don't know. I'm a little overwhelmed by it, though. So I thought, oh, this will be so fun to do a dinner there. And I won't have to be stressed. It won't be like Fashion Week. And I feel more stressed about it for some reason. Yeah, I mean, that's people's Fashion Week. I think people really bitch about it that it's become too crowded and too this. I'm sure you've seen the hotel prices. So it is a little intense, but it's I mean, it's a very, very fun week. I think what's annoying about all of these things, same with I go to most of the ad basils is now you have to kind of prove that you leave before the crowds are coming.

00Like, oh, no, it's the pre, pre, pre, pre days, you know. So whenever even for my followers, I always say when it's Venice Biennale, whatever dates you're Googling, it's three days earlier. Yeah. Yeah. I am. That's funny. I'm getting there early and leaving early. early yeah i think this is the flex for everybody that at basel like i we you have to meet before wednesday now you know um one final thing you mentioned that you're based in berlin i was just in berlin for the first time in i want to say almost 20 years a couple of weekends ago a friend of mine had an art opening at um max hetzler um hetzler okay yeah i saw that you posted from Andreas Mokodes.

45Yes, I did. I popped by. I ran in an Uber and my family waited. I was like, I just need to see it. But it's an amazing store. It's incredible. I had not been there, I think 20 years. And so it was interesting to be there. Have you always been based there? I moved kind of, I mean, I'm German, but I moved straight after high school because it was the only cool thing to do but I'm yeah I've been there like on on and off but I bought an apartment three years ago just before I met my boyfriend who's in New York because I thought I was settling down in Berlin now I'm yeah kind of not really but I still love it here you know I went to a couple really amazing vintage shops including one that had like a bunch of old Yoji and Jill and I forget the name of it.

37Was it Pineapple Factory? No. I forget what it was called. It had like a heart maybe with a D or something. I don't know. I also don't really leave my house here. Okay, I was going to say, do you have any favorite shops or anything? I mean, I love Andreas Mokodes just because it's a beautiful, beautiful store. It's incredible. And then that's a new location or is it felt new? No, it's been there for a little bit. But yeah, people in Berlin don't really shop in this. They're very like vintage eBay kind of people here. Vintage, I need to like really get more into and start covering more because...

20I don't want to talk to people. It's a grail where people can message you, so I don't want to talk to anybody. I don't want to, you know, like Vestia, you can send an offer and then the client, but there's no communication involved. I don't want to have a discussion about five euro discount with anybody. I'm looking for a pair of boots by that brand Freelance. And I bought a pair on Vestair and then the person like reneged and was like, no, you can't have them. So that's what I'm looking for. Oh, but you always get a 15 euro voucher when someone cancels your order. Oh, really? I didn't even know that.

54Yeah, I was very excited. Oh, that's so funny. I wasn't aware of that. I need to go back on and try to find them. It'll be in your emails. There's a code. But if I find myself vintage shopping in Berlin again, I'll look you up. Maybe you'll be there. Or I'll see you in New York, I'm sure, in May, hopefully at the Costume Institute preview. I'm, like, announcing that I'm on the open AI table. I hope so. You said it on the snow cover. I hope so. I hope so. That would be amazing. You know, you're a journalist. That's all you're doing. Exactly. Brenda, this was so fun. Thanks for being here. Thank you for having me.
