56Hello and welcome to Fashion People. I'm Lauren Sherman, writer of Puck's Fashion and Beauty Memo Line Sheet. And today with me on the show is who what wears Hillary Kerr, the ringers Amanda Dobbins, and stylist Jamie Mizrahi. We are talking Oscars fashion.
16Happy Tuesday, everyone. Hope you had a great weekend. And I will be brief or I'll try to be brief because we have a whole fashion police style panel here to discuss the Oscars and I want to get right to it. But I did want to give you a little retail report from Berlin where I spent a couple of days. I realized I had not been to Berlin in 18 years. We hilariously ate at the same restaurant for lunch one day. It was still pretty good. It's olive or olives or something like that. It was cute. Anyway, I had a lot of good wine and good food. um, on this trip. And I went to many different stores cause I was on vacation.
54I didn't buy anything for myself, just clothes at Arket for my kid, which anytime there's an Arket with kids clothes, I buy some stuff. Uh, but I will say that it was fun to be in a city where people can still afford to live in terms of shopping. I went to Andreas Mercutis, Mercutis, Andreas Mercutis. that's what I'm gonna go with for the first time and I just was taken aback by how influential that store has obviously been on other concept shops around the world like Totokayo RIP it really reminded me of that I also was thinking a lot about how the stores like that don't really have that many options of what to sell these days like they're not gonna sell even the big brands that do wholesale they're not gonna like go for them like Maxfield can sell Miu Miu this this store is not like that they had a lot of Dries, Barena, a lot of Yoji which I'm paying close attention to because I'm really looking for a Yoji jacket right now.
57Blazer. Younger brands like Hoda Kova but the options are kind of dwindling. I mean it's the reality of the industry anyway. I mostly went to vintage shops which is another reality of the industry. There was a fun one called Yummy that was like run by an Italian person and mostly sold Italian brands. And they had Versace jeans, yellow jeans. And I texted Becky Malinsky about them. And she was like, you have to buy. I didn't buy them because I'm not really buying anything right now unless it's the perfect Yoji jacket. I didn't buy them. They were like Dario Vitale style. They were like 100 euros.
35If you if you can go to Berlin and buy these jeans, you should buy them. And there was also a pair of Armani men's chinos that I almost bought for myself and I tried to get other people to buy them they were also like 120 euros they were perfect they had uh tags on really gorgeous and I'm just realizing being in Paris now that like a lot of the vintage shops in Paris are really expensive you know we're not in Los Angeles anymore with Scout anyway there's another store in Berlin I really loved was Hart, H-A-R-D-T, where I tried two Yoji Blazers. I tried a bunch of Jill Sanders stuff. I'm really on the hunt for a Yoji Blazer right now.
15And there was one, the one of them I almost bought, but it wasn't exactly right. If you know of a black Yoji Blazer, I would like to spend less than 300 euros on it. Hit me up. I want black for sure. And I want it to be, I don't care of when it's from as long as it fits me well. Anyway, thanks to the guys at A Kind of Guys for making a shopping list for me. I also went to Our Legacy, which is a great store, really nice menswear, and they had a lot of other cute things including their own wine and their own jams and stuff. It was really nice to be there. I also went to Our Legacy, which, you know, I think it's really nicely done.
54It's not for me. I don't know if it was ever for me, but I'm definitely too old for it now. Anyway, Berlin's a really interesting city. You should check it out if you can get over there. And now let's get going with the fashion police.
09Amanda, Hillary and Jamie, welcome to Fashion People. Thanks for having us. So before we get started, I wanted to preface this with the idea for this came from a conversation that Jamie and I had when Jamie was on the podcast last fall, where she was like, why don't you have like a Joan Rivers style panel of people after the Oscars. And at that moment, I basically forced her to say yes to do it. And then was thinking about like, who else would be good? And Hillary, you're so good at red carpet commentary. I always love having you on. And Amanda, obviously, you and I converse about this kind of stuff daily.
49And you are a super podcaster. So I thought the three of you would be great. It would be nice to have some male energy in here, but it didn't happen this time. Mel Ahlberg is too busy. He would have been a good ad. He would be. Maybe next time we'll do it. I don't know Mel, but he was so great in the moment, the Charlie X, the X film. So I was looking forward to just being able to tell him that via Zoom. But next time. Well, now he knows. He's definitely listening. so okay ladies before we talk about our favorites i would love to hear each of your takes on like how you thought the carpet was because i went on cbs news like the 24 hour thing not not like the proper live or anything but um and i was pretty positive about the red carpet but then i was like was i too nice about what happened last night but i'm curious what you all think you have such different perspectives of how like from the maybe the whole weekend like there were so many events the night before there was the Chanel thing there was the Dior thing there was there were luncheons all these things that and then all the way up to the Vanity Fair which is almost as big of a red carpet moment as the Oscars itself but I'm curious what you all took away from the evening.
07Hillary, what was your big idea from this Oscars 2026? No shade to the Oscars, but I actually think the Vanity Fair red carpet is the more important carpet because it's more diverse. It has more risk taking going on. I just think it's more interesting in general. Oftentimes, I prefer the Vanity Fair look to the Oscars look. So that's my hot take not to be like pro media, but I am. So that's how I feel about things. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised to see so much color. I always love color. That makes me really happy. I thought that there's, you know, it's the Oscars, so it's never going to be the most amazing moment on the red carpet, in my opinion.
48I think people tend to play it safe, but I love seeing, I mean, this was a great moment for Dior, great moment for Chanel, great moment for Vuitton. There was a lot of great stuff going on. So I overall was pleased. I was not, it was, was it the best look of all time? No. Were there lots of amazing looks? Yes. But part of that has to do with who was nominated, you know? That's true. And everybody, everybody's looking real tight lately. So all the dresses were like really good. Jamie, what did you think? You, you styled some people for these events and, and so you have an interesting point of view, but what did you think overall?
29well my issue is i'm working until the show starts so i'm not sitting there watching it in real time so i'm kind of like looking at the photos after the fact or when they're at the show is kind of the first time i'm seeing the dresses and the looks like it was only until this morning that i saw tiana taylor chanel look i i just i just miss things because it's such a busy day to work. But I actually thought a lot of the Oscars dresses, I kind of disagree with you, Hillary, because I thought they were fashion. But like I was I thought Renata felt not like a typical Oscar dress. I thought Emma felt a little more like conservative and simple and and 90s and But Gwyneth, like it kind of gave me certain people gave me this old school thing that I've been wanting from the Oscars where it's not these like strapless ball gowns that are are very what the Oscars have become in the last 10 years, which I appreciate.
36Yeah, we didn't see a ton of mermaids and that and in that sense, I think that's great. There is more than there used to be. But still, like it's there are fashion moments, but it's not it's not the Met Gala. I guess that's what I'm always comparing it to in my head, you know? Yeah. Amanda, what say you? Well, I see her face and I'm excited for one. No, I think, you know, I think Hillary and Jamie both spotlighted some of my favorite looks of the night, which I won't spoil because we were asked to prepare three. But I would say my favorite looks were sort of an exception. I, because I cover the movies and watch the show, I'm probably more focused on the Oscars carpet and show looks than Vanity Fair, but I found it to be a dearth of color.
21And I find myself increasingly like Dame Anna in my dotage. It's too much black. Black doesn't work. Who was wearing black and white but Anna? I know. So I found that I responded to the moments of color at the show as well. You guys are both right that there were fewer prom dresses, for lack of a better word. And I think that's always a good thing, I guess, in that sense. It was fashion forward because of my friendship with Lauren. I think I'm more immersed in fashion week and runway stuff than I used to be. And so it was interesting to, you know, it was Chanel versus Dior to some extent on the on the on the stage or among the nominees.
08And it was fun to see who was wearing what and who was interpreting them. And, you know, like a mini version of what what seemed to be the runway wars that are happening in Europe now that I enjoy. But yeah, I just I would like more color. I think it's it's the Oscars. And I you know, it's not the Met Gala. But for actors and actresses, it is kind of the Met Gala. And or it is it's it's Hollywood's biggest night, as they say. And everyone just kind of looked a little sludgy together. You know, it's funny. I also I was just looking at line sheet for Monday, the lineup of the photos that I chose for the looks, and it was all black and white.
53There was not one color. I thought red and green were pretty prominent, especially at Vanity Fair there's tons of red and I think that has to do with speaking of the the runway Matu Blasi's the the red and green being a thing that he kind of has made at Chanel and I noticed that more especially red and also just like a lot of embellishment because that is something that's happening on the runway a lot as well but I also Hannah Goldfield the writer at the New Yorker DM me and said, why was there so much black and white? And I said, I honestly think it was just, there's a lot of black on the runway right now.
34Like people are just wearing a lot of black right now in their own wardrobes. And so it felt to me like a little reflective of that, but that's interesting that Hillary, that you saw the more color and yeah, I also wonder, there was more white than black. Like, do you not agree? Yeah. So much white. Yes. There was a lot There was so much white, which I always like. Which is a color to me also. True, true. And also, I mean, the one thing that I talked about, and we don't have to get super into this on this episode because we have a lot of ground to cover, but someone mentioned to me just the corporatization of this process.
20Pretty much now, it's all big brands. And I thought that Monse, Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim's brand that, you know, they just left Oscar de la Renta. They had two really nice looks, including Jennifer Goodwin at the Oscars. And she looked great. And then also, you know, I can't remember anyone's names. Kristen. She's a wig. Kristen Wig at the Vanity Fair. And I thought it was a really cool dress. but generally I think that it's not it's this is not new it's not easy for these younger designers to get placement at the Oscars especially because like it's not even about having a contract you to be able to make a dress that looks is gonna look good and have an atelier that can like help a stylist and their tailors make it work is just really hard for a young designer and the amount of work that that is put into it.
20That kind of goes back to what I was saying. If you look at the Oscars in the 90s, right? Yeah. People were wearing slick dresses and things that you could tell that they procured on their own. Like it wasn't this thing that I'm like, will we ever go back to that? Yeah. Yeah. I think that it's like the question now is, well, this is a business and we are all participants in this business and you can't really extract yourself from the fact that these actors need to get contracts because the movies they make don't pay them what they used to pay and it is just this is the reality of it so can we make the red carpet interesting in that framework is I think the question I'm asking myself I think the answer is yes like we'll get into it but kirsten dunst in selene is a great example of i thought she looked awesome and it was she was just it was a great example of like she looked amazing she has amazing personal style everything michael rider's doing it selene is about personal style and so that was like the perfect red carpet moment to me but i think it's harder to pull that off when when it is so much about the business side of it.
42So we'll see, but I have hope. Also, don't you think that, I think part of what made it perfect as well is because she wasn't there for her own project. She was there supporting her husband. So it should be a little bit of a subtler moment than if it was for her, in my opinion. Yeah. Yes. Yes. She did the right thing in that scenario. Yeah. It is a choice. Yes. And I guarantee if she was nominated, she wouldn't have worn a black, You know, she wouldn't have learned that. Yeah, it's true.
18Hey, Sal. Hank, what's going on? We haven't worked a case in years. I just bought my car at Carvana, and it was so easy. Too easy. Think something's up? You tell me. They got thousands of options. Found a great car at a great price. And it got delivered the next day. It sounds like Carvana just makes it easy to buy your car, Hank. Yeah, you're right. Case closed. Buy your car today on Carvana. Delivery fees may apply. Hey there, Poodle and Maddie here from Reality Gaze. Do you love reality shows about a bunch of women with matching hair extensions trying to fight against the patriarchy of the Mormon church?
56Who doesn't? The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is back on Hulu. And Taylor Frankie Paul has returned with her Mormon minions. And we are recapping all the drama on Reality Gaze. This show has us fully overstimulated. It's messy. It's Mormon. It's everything. Follow and listen to Reality Gaze wherever you get your podcast.
19So let's get into our favorite looks. Amanda, do you want to start? I feel like Kirsten Dunst might have been on your list. So you, well, you texted me about it this morning. So I assume she's going to be on your list. And I think what Hillary and Jamie were saying about context and that she's there. listen I will never call my beloved Kirsten Kiki Dunst who I do not know but worship a plus one but she was there as she was not there for her own film she was there um you know to have fun to add some glamour to the festivities that said I didn't love the black I think and she's been wearing black for the most part all all season long because she's been at a lot of these um and I even find that the the black with that what were the big sleeves Lauren who the pink sleeves don't remember oh it was valentino yeah the valentino i find that even i like responded to the the little bit of zhuzh that she gave her her black look over the season but yeah listen she looks amazing i didn't go with her though uh my first was already mentioned um and is also i i think one of the um the contract players but i thought it really worked out which was renata Rensby in Louis Vuitton, who I thought that it fit her, the actress, the personality, as I understand it, and also her vibe as the cool Norwegian actress in the Best International Feature win and fits the character, if you've seen the movie, who is at a remove throughout.
59and she looked really hot and I liked the design. And again, color. There just, there wasn't that much of it. So I thought she looked great. And I actually, she also looked very hot at the Vanity Fair party, but I am of course talking about her actual Oscar ceremony look. I'm with you. It also didn't feel like an Oscar, like it didn't feel like this overwhelming Oscar. Like there is something really simple and chic about it. She's on my list too. But I think Mikkel is really great at seeing the films and really like getting into that character and being like, okay, how should this connect on the carpet?
36And I love the storytelling. I've been watching what Carla has done with her for this whole season. And it's all been this like minimalist, interesting, but still thoughtful futurism. A lot of it obviously is with Gascar, but a lot of it is not. And all of it has had that sort of cool girl through line, minimal with some sheer detailing. And so I thought this was like the perfect culmination of it. My favorite iteration of that was the Simone Rocha at the event over the weekend. I just loved it. Yes. I thought it was so, it also was very Scandi of like what is popular in those cultures. Like you could almost see her putting a pair of sneakers on with it.
18Yeah. Am I allowed to wear those Asics from sentimental value? I keep meaning to ask you this. Yeah, of course. like but you know am i is it is it too much are they too big or can i a lay mom wear those lauren doesn't she doesn't she doesn't think you should is okay yeah that's why i'm asking this is i need to see them i don't remember feedback okay you moved to paris i can't ask you in person so okay i don't remember them i'm gonna look them up but i do remember thinking that i thought it was interesting that elle fanning was her wardrobe was provided by saint Laurent. And I, and my joke, our joke was Renata Rensby's wardrobe was provided by Arkit.
01Yeah, which is the H &M owned Uniqlo thing that I'm obsessed with. It just I was like, she's just wearing Arkit. It's so funny. I'm obsessed with Arkit. We know. It's the best place to buy kids clothes in the whole world. I've gone in two countries already in actually three countries in Europe since I've arrived here on February 21st. I'll look up the sneakers and I'll let you know. But that's interesting. I liked it. Amanda, maybe, you know what, let's move on. Hillary, let's hopscotch around. Hillary, you had Renata on your list. Who else was on your list? So I am a romantic and also I love black and white, even though I just said I like color.
45So for me, it was actually Rose Byrne in Dior and Tayana Taylor in Chanel. So I love those two. I just thought beautifully executed. I love the craftsmanship. I love the texture and the detail. Those were my two. I loved Rose Byrne and Chanel. I mean, sorry, I loved Rose Byrne in Dior. I thought it was great. I thought it was the best. I thought Mia Goff looked really good in Dior too. And I'm not just saying that because you're here, Jamie. I thought that dress was so lovely. It was my favorite of the white looks for real. You would just skirt over it. And I loved, I actually loved the Vanity Fair one because it was a little weirder.
26Because she has like a kind of a like weird girl vibe. And I mean that as a compliment. And I thought that the Dior, the like bustle on the black dress was really, really fun. um but i love to me to me she's a fashion girl to me she can she can play with things and i also think there's like kind of this frankenstein through line of like trying to be romantic and a bit gothic but ethereal that was the goal through the whole thing she looked fab uh but Back to Rose for a minute. And that necklace. Oh, my God. That necklace. Taffin. It was a beautiful Taffin piece. But I thought that was such a chic.
10Like, I noticed. When she came out, I was like, very cool to wear a Taffin. Yeah. Totally. I was like, respect. Unexpected. Beautiful. Among the Cartier Tiffany, all this. It's like, it was like, I see you. And I appreciate this. Agreed. And I just thought it was like the best example of, you know, Dior, the first couple months of the red carpet were really tough. And I think like if you asked Jonathan Anderson about it, he probably would say, acknowledge that it was like a slow start. but I think that they really nailed it with fit last night with all the dresses and also the obviously the men's stuff was was good too but I just thought like that was a great example of couture being reinterpreted for the runway and then shout out to Kate Young who I don't Rose Byrne is seems lovely and Amanda I know she was your pick for best actress I think she doesn't seem like a person who she's not she's not as Jamie as you said she's she doesn't seem like a fashion girl and I think Kate has done a really good job of just making her look really good in beautiful dresses that like a person who saw if I had legs and kick you whatever if I had legs I'd kick you yeah I'm never seeing this movie because it's I think I'd be depressed but um this movie about like 40 something moms who have a tough time.
41I think all the people who relate to that movie would love what she's been wearing. And I just think Kate's done a really good job dressing her. I loved it. And I also love Tiana Taylor. And I just, she has so much personal style. And I think she really took advantage of the sort of technique stuff that Mattou Blasi is doing at Chanel, but like made it her own. And I really appreciated that too. You always loved Tiana. you have like a real she's like you're one she just always looks good no matter how she just is beautiful and cool and she's incredible I also want a special shout out to Pedro Pascal because that was the that was my favorite men's look that's one of my three it was awesome did you see the change into the scarf after or did no one see it because we got in a fight about it I was like, I was like, can you do one on the carpet and one when you present?
39And he was like, I just love this so much. I just want to wear it on the carpet in the present. And I was like, OK, you have to do it. I was like, you're either going to Vanity Fair or you have to change after you present. And so he changed after he presented. Well, he just threw on a vest and a jacket. And, you know, my Jack Nicholson reference of the scarf, that like purple scarf. Yeah, of course. Like the most perfect. and Chanel like made the most beautiful brocade, like lilac colored scarf. And when I saw him sitting in the stands, I was like, no one's going to see this, but I see it and I appreciate you.
16No, Jamie, what I liked about it was of all of the Chanel looks, it most replicated the feeling that I've had looking at the Chanel runway of being like, no, no, no, I want to wear that. And I don't think I could wear most of the Chanel things that were shown last night and certainly not at the Chanel dinner, which maybe we can talk about at some point. But some of the fits, I guess we ran out of time. But it worked. I understood it. I had a yearning to wear it. He looked so comfortable. And it also, I recognized it instantly. I was like, oh, he's doing Chanel. It's very fun. So I thought it was a great interpretation.
55I feel like Jamie you kicked off so much of men and brooches as the trend has been and now everyone is doing it so I also love the fact that it felt like the next iteration of like you are brooch here we go I'm trying to go in I'm trying to go into flowers I'm trying to go into real flowers and that's what felt great for me I noticed that I was like okay she's gone from one to the next thing because now everyone's doing the thing and by the way funny I got in a I got in like a little tiff with Jeremy last night as he was leaving. And I was like, you're wearing, you're wearing this Boucheron vintage brooch.
27And he was like, everyone wears a brooch. I was like, I, I started everyone wearing, you're wearing a fucking brooch. Here I am. I'm giving you credit. I'm calling you out for that. Um, but I think the next, we need, we need other options, which I think are, are like Eric Budabao will like wrap a flower in silk and make a little boutonniere. And I'm like, this is really nice. And last night I saw Dan Constable and I was like, I see you. Yeah. Did you see him? I don't know if he posted anything for himself. By the way, I just want to say I also love man jewelry. So I want men to wear brooches. I want them to have more flair.
03I want it to be interesting. I am not mad at this trend that you have started. Can I say I thought Michael B. Jordan's I thought Michael B. Jordan was fantastic. And I thought his coat was really interesting and I really appreciated his outfit. I thought he and Ryan Kukor both looked really good. Yeah. He was one of my tops. Who else, Jamie? It's very me, but Gwyneth and Emma. It's just very... You know? They both look great. Tiana, I would say as well. Especially after. I just appreciated the simplicity of Gwyneth and the hair and the strapless and the side. And I just thought it was nice. I loved it.
54Yeah. That shoulder and the back. And it was so good. But yeah, Michael B., there was someone, there was someone, hold on, I got to look through my, I don't know. I have like an appreciation for the men too. I always love Jacob. He's just like tall and handsome. I love him in a like vest with that. It's just it's just cool to me. The mustache was last night on a Lordy. And did you see the meme of where it was like Pedro gave his facial hair to Leo? Yeah, like really got me. I loved it. I like a mustache to be honest. I do, too. I guess it's like a Tom Selleck thing, I guess. I was very into it.

42Yeah. From both of them last night. I've got one more. Yes, please, Amanda. So this is in the, you're going to go and let's have, let's really go for it. So Miyako Belizzi, who is the costume designer of Marty Supreme, which by the way, should have won in a vintage Dior dress. It just, listen, she's there for costume designing and can wear vintage Dior by Galliano and she looks awesome. And it has a little bit of that. I mean, it's it's a beautifully cut, not quite slip dress. And I don't think that I mean, maybe she did do this by herself since this is her job. But it has that feel of people used to show up not in ball gowns.
30People just used to show up in really, really cool stuff. yeah this is obviously yeah and this is obviously more designed but she just looks fashiony and incredibly beautiful and not like anyone else there and I think she deserves an Oscar so guys I'm so happy to report that Miyako is the Friday guest on fashion people oh my god I'm so jealous yeah it was fun she wants to come no I just know I just want to listen to it you know that's what I If I'm on the podcast, I can't listen. Okay. Also, Paul, Paul Mezcal and Gracie Abrams are cool to me. They're such a cute couple. I'm obsessed with them.
08Like, they can do no wrong in their street style, their carpet style. I'm a fan. My top three, I really had five. But one of them was Gracie Abrams both nights. the only people that we haven't talked about that that I mentioned is I think Elle Fanning and Timmy and Givenchy were both great like I think that Givenchy red carpet is so good and it's the best thing that's happening in Givenchy right now a lot of people really love Sarah Burton's latest collection that's for another podcast but um but I think that their red carpet is fantastic and I think again I'm obsessed with this idea of these brands that aren't like the big three and how do you engage with celebrity in a meaningful way and I just think that like the relationship between Elle and Givenchy has been developing yeah yeah and I think Elle I just think she she has an amazing body she like wears stuff that you can tell she really loves the clothes she wears and I think she always just I like when she she was wearing Gucci a lot recently I like that too but I thought they both looked really really good and um shout out to the team that works on the Givenchy red carpet stuff including Sarah Burton but also everybody around her because I think they're doing an excellent job with it and um Jamie I don't know if you like have any thoughts on working with them in particular but it from from my perspective it's like super professional great we didn't just back to brooches for one second i'd like to talk about adrian brody's brooch and and that is when you i have to say not even like negging anything but like that's when you take a too far there were a lot of things that he took too far last night and last year so yeah it's the it's a bit that didn't really land i didn't notice because i just saw georgina and i was like oh my god that lady owes so many so many people money according to the lawsuits i you know just according to lawsuits that's what it says is that her company owes people money and they're still on the red carpet that's all i could think about so i didn't see his brooch so i need to look at it right now wow yeah and it's also the bleached blonde hair combined no it's just the brooch for me i didn't even see the hair and then he came on the tv and i was like whoa yeah he did a whole thing in the ceremony where he was like getting some papers out of that pocket, that breast pocket.
46So the brooch was like moving back and forth. Also, it was really center stage. Highly animated. Lauren, I also loved Elle's Givenchy. I mean, the dress that I would be most likely to buy out of pocket is her Vanity Fair black dress, which I know black, but like, I thought that was phenomenal. Also, I just want to say I loved her vintage wisteria diamond Cartier necklace that she wore on the red carpet. I love diamonds. I love giant diamonds. I love big sparkle. I just want everyone to wear as much jewelry as possible. It is the magpie in me. And so I always get excited when I see big diamonds on a red carpet.
28You know who no one really talked about or is talking about was Nicole Kidman. Like, I feel like. Yeah, I liked her Vanity Fair look better than the. I didn't even see it. I'm going to. Oh, it's good. I'm reverse. Oh, interesting. Yeah. I liked the ceremony look. It's from certain angles. I'm with Amanda. I am team. From certain angles, the Vanity Fair looked sort of like a schmata, you know, um it's it's just and and that's nicole kenman one of the most beautiful women in the world so yeah uh yeah i just like that gold texture fritz is here guys fritz i'm doing work look it's amanda hi fritzy okay we're now doing a vanity fair like quick deep dive tiana yeah you know what i loved at vanity fair was um uh kate hudson in gucci she looked fucking awesome you i love i love her and everything because i just love her so much so i she can do no wrong in my i'm so you know when you're jet you know someone's like deserves this is enjoying it is grateful for it has worked her out like I'm just like I have no I have no notes on just her her the way she goes about her life and does things and I think it's really cool you know I like her because she's one of those celebrities who doesn't have to have a publicist on when you talk to her you interview her for something because you know what she doesn't need anyone she's the best she's a pro She's the best.
05Just a real down gal. Oh, I didn't see Rose burn at Vanity Fair. I like that. I like it as well. Black, but still, I like it. When there's embellishment, it's a pass. Yeah. Listen, I had to get dressed last night, and I also wore navy blue so dark red as black. So, like, who am I to judge? But I get it. But you're nominated for an Oscar. 38:36What else were you all excited about or were you, I don't know, thinking about this weekend? Hillary, I know you all have like a war room where you're combing through all this stuff. Yes, we do. There is a Slack channel going. There are text messages going. There are DMs going. I'm harassing stylist friends and PR friends. And unfortunately, my incredible team probably wishes I was out of Slack, but I'm not. I'm like in there making sure that all of the details are correct. I feel it is definitely something I should not be doing at this point in my career or life, but I just love the details of it so much.
21And I care about us getting it right so much. So I am that person who's like sitting on my couch frantically with multiple screens going, watching, texting, slacking, looking up, doing all of the research like an absolute fiend. It's so fun. Well, what did you like that? What was the thing that kind of poked out the most this time for you? Honestly, like. To be for me, Teyana's whole run has been the thing. Like I have just enjoyed every moment of it. I love her. I love her energy. I love how playful she is on the red carpet. I love that she can wear the most extravagant thing and she's still wearing it.
05It's not wearing her. She seems like she's having a great time. Like everything that she's doing is fun and fresh and vibrant and alive. So she's been she's been it for me. Her and her and Chase, just like the the the attitudes and the personality, it's very refreshing. And I and I and it's fun. And you can tell they're having fun in everything they wear and they're enjoying being there. That's what I felt a lot from these these the people nominated. Right. Like like they're happy to be there. Yeah, I agree that both Tiana and Chase, who I wanted to talk about from last night, have also they have embraced the opportunity all season long to wear great clothes and to look great in them.
51And I really liked the Chase Infinity look last night because, you know, she's obviously very young and a young star of the Best Picture winner, one battle after another. But she plays a teenager in that film. She's a bit older in real life. But that can be kind of like the age appropriate on the younger thing can be a tricky line. And it looked like elevated prom gown in the right way, if that makes any sense. There was a tiny bit of youthfulness to it. But still fashion forward. I liked, obviously, the color once again. Color. Say it with me. and I mean she looked beautiful but it just it felt she also looked like comfortable and she was having fun in it yeah and that can be a really really hard thing to do especially with young young winners who just often wind up in ball gowns so I but all season long she's been wearing great clothes and looking amazing wait for why haven't we talked about Jesse Buckley because that's some color by the way red and pink is yes I feel like has now been this this is the second time that we've seen that for an Oscar winner isn't that what Emma Stone was wearing when she wore an Oscar maybe for a different award season maybe in the first one yes she was wearing that um like mint green green but it was really pretty and I was like who cares that it broke it was really pretty it was it was perfect it was perfectly part of her speech yeah I liked the Jessie Buckley.
23I didn't. It's not on my top three, but I appreciated the color. And she has been wearing color all season. I struggled with it. Silence. Yeah. I didn't put it on my top three. I was glad that she was wearing color. I also, you know, it's on a sliding scale of Jessie Buckley for the season. True. I would say it fitter, which is the first thing that is important, because not everything she's worn has. Two, I love red and pink color combo. I thought the balance of the red and pink weren't correct. There was something incorrect. And this is like, I know I'm being extremely, maybe I'm being pedantic here, but as like Daniel Goldberg's number one super fan, you're harshest on the people that you love the most.
15Jamie knows this also. but um like I just in the photos that Chanel published the colors looked right and it looked really good I think on the red carpet there was a there was an imbalance with I don't know it was like these two this pink and red aren't meant to be together I really liked her jewelry and I thought her afterwards dress was very pretty but I was um I was a little disappointed by it I thought honestly even though that blue dior someone someone today was like you really you really defended that blue dior dress the thing about that blue dior dress was that like i didn't think that the fit was great but i thought the color and the fabric the material was really beautiful and i mean the chanel do you mean the velvet no i mean the dior dress that she wore maybe to the golden globes the one that someone oh oh the brocade yeah someone who was like was the one that like poking me about it because because funnily because i i said you know this wasn't my favorite the chanel wasn't my favorite and they were like you defended the dior and i was like well i think from wait from hillary okay thank you so much for saying this i'm sorry lauren i just interrupted you hear it she said the one that wrinkled about five different times and i have the gorgor i have No, no, no.
38Now I have fashion's best and brightest right in front of me. And so I would like to ask you all, how do you do? What are we doing about the wrinkles? You don't wear, you don't, you consider fabrics. Okay, so the people who show up on the red carpet or who are photographed with wrinkles have made a poor decision in fabric. Well, it's fabric for sure, but it's also stand in a sprinter and get to the carpet and do your photos. But if you are nominated and there's a potential of you having to stand up in the middle or the end of the show, fabric is a very, very important consideration. Yeah. Okay.
18And like Mikey Madison last year when she won, we did like a satin, but it had to be thick. Do you know what I mean? Like it had to be right to get up there and be able to take a picture. Yeah, it has. There's like fabric tests. You got to do some fabric tests. Okay. Thank you. so that's why I'm being such a Virgo about the wrinkles I was like no I don't like I it's human but I I'm mad all I'm saying is from the chest up I thought that that blue was I think like color on her was beautiful yes I would have loved to see her in the couture version of that blue dress that can I say my favorite thing she wore this whole press run was that I think it was margela oh yes was it margela the the like that to me i want to see her body i want i want her body to she deserves that she's a great body and i and i actually think more of that for for me is is i thought that was great interestingly that was for a different movie that was for the bride uh Which is the recent, which, you know, didn't fare that well critically or commercially.
29Can I say I loved it? That's great. You know what? We all go to the cinema to experience this. I loved the first half, especially. I don't think that Jessie Buckley was the problem in it. Okay. And I agree that she looked beautiful. But I just, in terms of that, even that look. I'm not a film connoisseur like you. It does seem like she was conceptualizing differently, like for different press tours, right? And that what she was wearing for The Bride was different than what she was wearing for. Well, then maybe I'm a bigger fan of The Bride press tour. I guess so. Yeah. I'm not going to be seeing that movie because Amanda said not to.
02Anyways. I was irritated. That was my experience of watching the film. I'm a really good audience. I'll tell you that. um okay let's I need to bring some energy back well the energy is good but I need a good segue because I think we should wrap up oh great when you're not scanning scripts Jamie and watching screeners what what do you think was like the big takeaway for you for this for this red carpet season as as an active participant and also as an observer an observer I think that it was I think it was fun and it was kind of all over the place to me I think it was I think it was dare I say manic like it just there was no consistency with with with characters like I like I don't think that in the people nominated per se that if you lined everything each of them wore up that there was a real story told per se um but I enjoyed it I enjoyed that like every moment you're like oh she's wearing that oh she's wearing that who's wearing Chanel to the what's Rose Byrne gonna do what's Renata well we know Renata was doing Louis baton it's like there were a few up in the air people like jesse buckley and rose and people who weren't signed to houses officially where you were like oh okay it's exciting she's gonna do dior she's gonna do chanel for this like i enjoyed that and i i just thought it was there were a lot of new actresses introduced to us this season that that weren't necessarily fashion players before like Rose, like Jesse, people you started like Teyana, like people you started to pay attention to.
04And I thought that was fun and new and interesting. Yeah. And I think the other thing is like, it was sort of, it was the season of debuts in September. So all these designers are sort of getting their footing, new red carpet strategies because they're new designers. And And then in the middle of all this, we have this big Chanel, Chanel, new Chanel drops. And there's lines out the door at Chanel on Rodeo and everybody's shopping. And there's all these there's the Dior party on Thursday with W. Then there was the Chanel Charles Finch party on Saturday. And, you know, it felt like these worlds have been merging for some time.
49And it really felt that like the first time to me that you could really see the like business of fashion playing out against the business of entertainment, which are there in different places. But yeah, Amanda, I'm curious. I also think I also I also think just just not to just last thing. I think it was kind of difficult in the beginning of all this to get into. You got to get a flow with people, you know, like I can work with Nicola all day long because he's been at Louis Vuitton. for so long and we get it and it's just you know it's consistent I think with the new team at Dior and the new team at Chanel it's like everyone's great but it takes a minute to get in the flow and build relationships in a different way with clients and I just think it was it was tricky in the beginning because it wasn't as everyone wasn't in the same place you know it's like when if a studio boss leaves the studio, you have to deal with the new head of a studio and how they do things.
50And it was just it was just getting I think everyone slowly towards the end started getting in the groove. And that's a very astute observation. Okay, Amanda, sorry. Yeah. Oh, no, no. I mean, I was just gonna say, you know, as a as a devoted listener of fashion people and reader of line sheet, but not a fashion person, just a fashion watcher. It was exciting for me to see these, you know, I understand that they are business trends, but also what has felt like a pretty seismic shift in the last year in the world of fashion kind of make its way into a segment of pop culture where I could interact with it more.
30Not that I'm not looking at all the runway shows and, you know, applauding Lauren on the purchase of her Chanel jacket. But to see to see it crossover and honestly to jump break containment of the fashion world and become a little bit more mainstream and to be like, oh, OK, so that was the Chanel and that's the Dior. And this does feel like it's the Oscars put it in front of more more people and make it a little bit more accessible than maybe a Paris Fashion Week is. So which is, I guess, the point of dressing all these people and spending all this money on this stuff. But, you know, for me, for me, it was exciting to see and exciting to follow throughout the season.
17And I think I'm pro. I'd like a flower brooch. so you know Jamie's Jamie's done her work and um I it was fine it was a good season it is what it is yeah yeah um I think we all need a flat or brooch sex in the city style but I like the reason I like Pedro's was because it was white on white okay you did it Jamie there were feathers there were feathers it was like feathers wow you got up close and a little CC on it. I got to keep that brooch. Too good. You got to keep it. Ladies, this was so fun. Maybe we'll do this every season. That sounds great. Maybe we do it a little later in the day, you know?
04Yeah. Or I could just like... Maybe someone could move back to our time zone. Lauren texted me. Well, I guess you're in Paris, so it's different. I thought you were in New York. And I was like, okay, 7 a.m. She's awake, but it's Paris. So it was different. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, maybe next time I'll be in L.A. no matter what, because I don't want to miss carbs before the carpet, Hillary. Yeah. It looked very fun. Thank you. It was a delight. Dan's a genius. Much love to Dan Constable at UTA, who I'm sure looked great at all the parties last night. He always had the time. OK, ladies, this was fun.
