2:12And I was shocked. I knew the show had a following, but the fans came out. And sure enough, They came out again at 92nd Street Y in a very large venue. You're going to feel the electricity in the room. And it's such a fun bunch. I love this cast. I've done a lot with them. Some of them I go way back with. Some are newer friends. 3:23It was only about a year ago that this show kind of came out of nowhere and now here we are. Emmy nominations, Golden Globe nominations, Critics' Choice Awards, endless memes, hot priest, hot rabbi, I got it wrong, hot rabbi Halloween costumes. I mean this show really penetrated the zeitgeist like few shows have And I'm so excited that we're gonna be talking about some new episodes with these guys We have a lot of seats to fill tonight guys. Are you ready for this? Should I introduce them? Okay, please make them feel welcome. We have with us executive producer and co-showrunner. It's Bruce Eric Kaplan.
4:03Come on out, Bruce Please give a warm welcome to executive producer and co-showrunner Jenny Connor is here Jenny The creator of the show and executive producer, it's Erin Foster, of course.
4:21Jackie Tone, you know her, you love her. Jackie, come on out.
4:29That tall drink of water, that is Timothy Simons. Make him feel welcome, everybody.
4:38Justine Loop, come on out. Come on.
4:46We have this guy that goes by the name of Adam Brody? Adam Brody is here. Brody? Right. And she is, of course, Joanne, executive producer. It is the one and only Kristen Bell, everybody. Give it up.
5:08Should we start chanting fashion hat? Fashion hat. Fashion hat. You always know Tim's going to be down for the bit. I didn't think anyone would notice. 800 people noticed, Kristen. Welcome, guys. Congratulations. We're hours away as we tape this from the launch of season two. How are you feeling? Feeling the energy? Feeling the love? We're a go for launch. We feel good. You feel good. Feeling confident? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Too confident. Too confident. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, talk to me a little bit about... Okay, let's look back at season one for a second first. When did you guys know this was going to be something a little special?
5:49You had the experience of making the show. That's lovely, but you never know. When did you feel like, oh, this is actually hitting in an insane way? I can start. I never know how any project I'm going to do will land, because I think you can do the best job possible, assemble working alongside great people and then ultimately it comes down to like the public's temperature like what kind of a mood earth is in and if they want to see it um and so you just really never know but when I started getting calls from the publicity team at Netflix about that they had given the first two screeners to all the publicists in July or to all the critics in July and our show came out in October and the critics were coming out of their skin they were coming unglued.
6:35They were like, well, we need 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10. We need to see more. And we need to have more interviews with these people. There was a frantic nature to them beginning to put the press tour together. And I was like, oh, I don't know if I've ever been a part of something that people were this hungry to get more of. And I guess that was a decent litmus test. I was like, this show might be really big. I can personally attest to this. My wife is in the audience. We had the screeners for the first few episodes. and she was like, get on this. This is, get me more and you have to cover this in a big way.
7:09So yeah, people saw it. But I mean, you feel the reaction of this. I mean, I've covered a lot of films and TV shows. Like I've covered Twilight and Harry Potter. That's what this feels like, that kind of fandom. No, it really does. Like 30 minute comedies don't necessarily elicit that kind of scream, Erin. I mean, this must be beyond the dream come true of the creator. I thought you told them to do that or something when we came out. Very nice. I mean, there's no way to really know. I think everyone of us has worked on something that you think is really good and that you think people are going to love and they really don't.
7:50And so you kind of lose your sort of trust of your own instincts and you're not making something. It's like getting married. You don't think you're going to get divorced. You think it's going to be forever and then all of a sudden it's not. So, I mean, I'm married and I'm staying married, but... It's gonna be a rough season four. Gotta take a turn. You go into everything thinking this could be it. And then when it isn't so many times, you just sort of stop thinking about that for myself, Elise. Truly every other time. Yeah. Like it's not even, I think that's what maybe like the public, people don't understand.
8:28Like I'm absolutely assuming that most things are like either never going to come out or nobody's going to watch it. Or if it comes out, then it gets canceled. It's like it's rough out there. But also to give you something specific from season one that was a moment where I felt like there was something very special happening was when Joanne and Noah walked to the car after the dinner party. and that was a scene that we had used as an audition for guys for the role of sorry adam we auditioned other guys he is furious i can see him seething over here yeah i didn't audition just saying yes it's true it's true he didn't offer only brody that's what they call him yeah but when we saw the um that scene in the auditions uh i started doubting that it was a good scene because it wasn't landing right.
9:22And I kept wondering, like, ooh, I think that this scene needs to be cut or needs to be rewritten because it's just not landing. And then it just wasn't the right combination of people. When I watched them doing it that day, a light bulb went off of this feels special. It's nice. When I was doing that, I was like, this might suck. But then I saw it shortly thereafter, the rough cut, and I was like, this is amazing. I mean, everybody here has had successes in their career. Is there a different look in the eye of a nobody wants this fan that approaches you, Adam, compared to somebody that comes up back in the day that was talking to the OC or something else?
10:00Grind, growing up radio, a lot of hits.
10:06A difference? I think the wide-ranging demographic. You know, it's like before even the OC, I'd be like, okay, that's an OC crowd over there. This, I was in Scotland right after it came out, and some field hockey Scottish girls came up to me. And then we sat down at a bar right after, and some 70-something Scottish people drinking whiskey, all men, said the same thing. And I was like, okay, wow. In Scotland, this works. As Scotland goes, so goes the world. That's the saying, right? Do rabbis resent you or love you? Because you've set the bar unrealistically high for rabbis around the world now.
10:45You realize that? I don't know, but I assume it's mostly positive. There was a girl who came up to my sister Sarah in Miami, and she's like, I just need to tell you that my dad is a rabbi, and I grew up kind of embarrassed that my dad was a rabbi because it wasn't cool. And now he is like, I'm a fucking rabbi.
11:09And also, just so you know, there's like at least three rabbis walking around the world thinking this is based on them. And like one of them, you probably go to their synagogue because it's in New York City. What's really funny is I know Big Jew and I know a lot of... Really? Yeah, yeah, all right. I was telling Adam before we came out, there's not a lot of people that make me seem Protestant, but Josh somehow does. You're even Jewier than me. Anyway, I was just going to say... I was never bar mitzvahed, so we can end. Still. I know. I can do that for you. Tonight? Right now? I have that authority.
11:46I think I have that authority. It's a kishkes thing, Josh. Anyway, I was just going to quickly say that I can't tell you how many Jewish friends in L.A. are like, oh, my rabbi consulted on that show. And then another person would say it, and I'd be like, oh, this guy? And they were like, no. I feel like rabbis were going around L.A. just saying they consulted on Nobody Wants Us. Dead serious. So is it better to be the unexpected surprise season one or to have the expectations going into season two? Erin, I mean this is a different experience. The first season, wonderful surprise for the world.
12:19Now, people are ready. People are watching. You know they're gonna be watching. I'm very, um, I'm really excited for season two because you know how invested people are and how much people care about these people and the stories. I feel really really good about what we were able to accomplish season two. and season one you have no idea if anyone's watching or if it's gonna flop and it's scary but it's so great to see how many people are paying attention so there's a combination of a lot of pressure you know but I feel really confident about it paying off for people so it's almost more exciting this time.
13:03If you're a fan of Happy Second Fused, a fan of mine, you probably love Outer Banks. I've loved talking to this cast over the years, and I'm so thrilled to say there's a really cool new podcast out there if you're an OBX fan. It's Outer Banks, the official podcast. This show is fantastic because it goes into not only the fan favorite moments over the years, looking back at the special relationships, the special storylines. Yes, it looks at this new final season, but it really captures, I think, the magic that made Outer Banks so special. The cast talks about their experience bringing these roles to life. 16:23Let's talk season two, guys. We can talk season. They've seen the first two episodes. Welcome to the world of Nobody Wants This, guys. Bruce Jenny, talk to me a little bit about the challenge, excitement, of taking a hit and making an excellent season two, you know, like growing out the storyline. What are the challenges of approaching season two? I'm going to be completely honest with you. Wasn't that much of a challenge. I know it should be. And I guess in a way it is when something's a success, you want to equal that success. but what Aaron created what these guys did in terms of the first season that's the dream like you want to go on a show where you're like okay I know what these characters talk like I know their points of view I know who these actors I know they can do anything so in that sense it's like I mean honestly it is a dream also you know we got to just walk onto a huge hit show so that doesn't hurt like that that worked out pretty great so uh and we came to it as super fans you know so it was really easy to but they're making it sound easier than it was no no obviously we work really hard but we and honestly we did it was literally i've said this to people in some ways it was the hardest job i've ever had but because for a variety of reasons but what are some of those reasons you're like let's make this panel juicy problematic cast members uh there were a lot of people involved before we showed up and so and all those people are important to this show and we incorporated their voices and it was sort of you know it was it was it's challenging when you're coming in and you're replacing some people and some people are not invited back or some people are asked to be quiet and there's new people here who are sort of going to be in charge and they both handled it very well because they're not egocentric people and it's a job that you can really insert your vision but they came on to a show with a creator who had a strong vision and I was really nervous and they handled it so well because they weren't trying to make my vision their vision.
18:45They were trying to help support my vision and teach me how to do a better job. Is it helpful or not to see how the fans reacted to season one and how they reacted to these relationships and what they were saying about what they wanted to see perhaps in the future? Or is that kind of where madness lies? You have to kind of follow your own creative instincts. I mean, I will say for Bruce and I, or you can argue with me, but We like to argue. We're nickels and meh. No, but I would say that, you know, we learned on girls to not listen to a lot of the noise or just read the good reviews. I mean, for me personally, I really feel with all my jobs, I work for the show.
19:29I work for the characters. I work for the stories. And so that's what I'm focused on, honestly. So let's talk about some of the status of these relationships. some folks watching this or listening to the podcast won't have seen the episode, some will but give us a sense, how are you guys doing this season, at the start of the season what are the challenges how are we looking still got the Judaism question that's still there? maybe we tabled it I felt like we took it off the table that's lingering I guess, but as far as being emotionally connected, we're like, A, sing that still in the beginning, yeah Very much.
20:10But I think there's probably a lot of, you meet us with a lot of the anticipation of first-timing something, right? Like our first dinner party, the first time I go to Shabbat, the first time you decide how much of the closet you can share. All those baby firsts where you have to realize that, oh, this isn't going to be a compromise because we're a we now. Is Erin still a model for the character as much in the second season as in the first season? or do you now have license to kind of, is she off on her own? You know, you've created this character. Tell me which one is Erin again. Third from the left.
20:46Third from the left. Nope, nope. This one? Hand down. In the bargain day. No, Erin is and will always be Joanne. Her voice is so specific and I definitely feel like I'm trying to keep her as Joanne. I think the way I approach personally any character is that I make it 50 % myself and 50 % the characteristics I'm trying to play. And it was an incredibly easy job because I had Erin right in front of me. So I was able to watch how she walked through the world, how she spoke to people, the way she did her hair. I had like a file on my phone of her hairstyles. Yeah, I found that late in the season.
21:22It was really creepy. Yeah. But it was also really fun to be creepy. Also, there was like one day where I said to Jenny, I was like, oh my God, I love her. outfit right now she looks so cute I love her hair like that and she was like you're such a narcissist she looks like you I was like oh I do wear my hair like that but it's like tiny things right and there were definitely times on uh in the first season or even the second season where like Aaron would write an interaction and maybe it was a joke and maybe it wasn't and I couldn't hear it like when I was like trying to memorize it and I'd go up to Aaron I'd be like wait can you just say just like say this out loud whisper it in my ear just like say it in my ear I need to hear where your pitch is, where your tone is, what you're influencing.
22:06And she would, thank God. And then I'd be like, oh, that's it. Okay. Because her writing is incredibly creative and it doesn't always read on the page. It reads in real life. It reads when you watch these people interact. So she will always be my North Star. 800 people. Adam, what do you know about Noah in the second season you didn't know? About Simon, Aaron's husband? What do I know about Noah in the second season? What have you come to understand now? He's going through the repercussions of his choice to be with Joanne at work, which are ricocheting back home. Because it created quite a lot of upheaval.
22:47And then also, regardless of that, I think they are two different personalities. And occasionally, I think he questions her commitment and ability to commit. And she questions his. and so there's, you know, lingering insecurity, but at the same time, the guy's also very much in love. He's had over heels in love and having a great time. Does Adam have control over his own facial hair? If he showed up to set clean shaven, would he be fired or does he have to talk to you? Yes, he would be fired. I've said this many times before, I would freak the fuck out if he shaved the beard. Like, I love Adam in a beard.
23:26I've been very vocal about this to Adam. Why is this so important to you, Tim? What's it just you like? Says the guy who dyes his hair like fucking Eminem without warning anyone. No, let's not. Oh, hi. I'm Marilyn Monroe. Okay. I don't know. I did just show up at a party with it. That is true. But I don't know. I think, like, Adam, I... Say it to my beard. It's beautiful. You're beautiful. Go ahead. I love it on you. I have never noticed if Adam had... I literally did her, Dax's podcast with her after the first season. And she's like, you had a beard on this show? It doesn't, I don't know why I don't see it.
24:10Is it, do you have it right now? No, no, I don't have it right now. You're fine. You don't see his beard, but you have a file of her looks.

24:21Coming soon, more facial hair, future seasons. Just keep growing it. Just keep going, man. I would not hate that. I would go full. I'm down. Yeah, yeah. Are you? I'm down to go that way. The bear way. The what? I'm down for more than less. Yeah, yeah. Okay, let's go on. Wait, you just go full rabbits. You have a deal. I know my crap. Great. It's a twist. He becomes Santa Claus in season five. You never saw it coming. Crazy. Justine, how's Morgan doing? Season two. Status report. Sorry, just to jump back to the beard real fast. You know that it comes from my neck. I'll never be able to have it fully in my cheeks if that's what you're hoping for.
25:00Okay, well, we're going to have to see the shape, and then we'll decide. Okay, fine, go ahead. Sorry, Justine. I think that's part of the charm of the beard, though, is because it doesn't come in in the cheeks. And I do want to let Justine talk. I think you have to talk. I'm sorry. I have seven more pages of beard questions. We can do this if you really want to do this. I'm okay with going there. Did you have a beard in the first season, Justine? What? Did you have a beard in the first season, too? Yeah. She was pregnant. Um. Status report on Morgan. How's she doing? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Morgan's struggling, you know?
25:31Aww. I think Morgan just surrendered to acknowledging that she's losing some iteration of her soulmate in this romantic relationship. And it leaves her kind of in the dust going, well, where is my life? And what am I doing? And where is my guy? And how am I? Am I okay? And this season, I guess, is her way of manically and frantically coping and finding her way through that. We can tease that among the guest stars is Arian. Yeah. As Dr. Andy. Yeah. Do we ever trust a doctor with a first name just going by the first name? I feel like that's a real red flag, right, Erin? I wouldn't trust him. I don't love it.
26:15I have the same feeling about Dr. Andy as I have about teachers who make you call them like Mr. Tom. Mr. and then their first name. Or Miss Cindy or something. I'm like, I don't know. It feels wrong. And I feel the same way about the therapist thing. Yeah. All right. Stay tuned. Just watch that guy. Some epic dancing to look forward to from Mr. Timothy Simons, everybody. Was that in your rider? Did you demand the dancing? Did you guys say you looked at Tim and said, we need to make this man dance this season? How did this happen? I'll let you answer that one. He wants to take the blame credits.
26:52I will tell you this. We thought he wasn't going to be great at it. And there was some comedy to me, mine there. And also, but in a great way, like in the way that was like, he's really trying hard. Like he's making a commitment. And then we were like, Tim's got moves. And it kind of made it even better. I definitely it did help that the target was guy trying really hard and not professional dancer Because I felt like that was a target that I could hit But like anything more than that I think they would have been like alright They're probably fine like a six foot five body double and we'll just shoot it really wide But I think they gave me a target I could hit I have to say it's a very sexy dance and I was with Tim when he was on set and he had his two teenage 13 year olds there and they were like obsessed with this video, but they were also repulsed by it So this was like this really weird like give and take of being like, show me the video, show me the video.
27:47Ew, dad, gross. I'm running away from the video. It was so cute. In the weeks after, I would just be in my house and Seven Rings by Ariana Grande would start playing. And I'd be like, I'm being pimped into this dance in my own house with nobody asking. I would just start playing. Who's the best dancer in real life among the cast? I don't know. I don't either. I've only seen Tim dance. I've only seen two Jackie I have a feeling You're a really good dancer You're not a dancer At a wedding Kristen You don't get up I'll get up and get down But it's going to be All over the place Okay Huh How are you I think it's Bruce I bet There's only one way To find out Dance off Here we go guys Jackie would you rather Be two feet taller Or Tim two feet shorter None Pass Yeah none of that Oh I have to You have to?
28:42I'm horrible at these. Would you rather freeze to death or heat to death? Heat? Freeze. Okay.
28:52Would I rather be two feet? Definitely Tim two feet shorter. Because what do I give a shit if he has to walk around life as a four-foot man? But do I want to be a giant woman? No. That was an easy one. I didn't even realize how easy. Yeah. You didn't want to answer it. Now you came up with gold. Congratulations to all of us. Tim could be weird, yeah. It's like that question of, like, if you press this button somewhere in the world, one person with eye jack, he's just hammering the button. Like, what do I give a shit? Yeah, are you kidding? I have this monkey's paw that you can make a wish on. Yeah, exactly.
29:27You asked. You just move right. Nothing about the show. You move on to Jenny. Oh, so short Tim. All right. Thankfully, Esther has a juicy season. We can say that. You're happy with... Yeah. So do you put your two cents in before season two, or do you just let them surprise you with what... No, America did. America spoke, and they said more. Yeah. I think everybody had something to say there. Which, listen, of course the Jews had to say something. We're Jews. That's the whole point. I love that all the, like, angry, very opinionated, strong women Jews were like, we're not like that. That's a stereotype.
30:08It's like, I'm being you. Miriam, you're seeing yourself and it's upsetting you.
30:19I loved it. But I think she has a journey season two and it's so fun because I love to play her. I love her so much. And I didn't want to be like defensive of her, but I just am. I think that she's a real person and she's a fully formed person. and she's loyal and she loves her husband and she's pissed that these people came along and like ruined their family. It was her and her brother-in-law and her husband and her best friend Rebecca and now it's like this. Like it wasn't great. So it's like that to me, it made sense to me. And then in season two I think she's realizing that everybody else was having a good time and she's sort of a self-imposed stick in the mud.
31:02It's not like anyone's making her sort of be that way and she's asking herself life's questions. And without spoiling, that's the journey she's on for season two. One thing I do love about the writing, she's trying to have fun. And people keep asking me, they're like, so she's fun this season. I'm like, is she? She'll tell you she is.

33:53What is the most common question, comment that you guys get related to nobody wants this? I think it's like, would you want Tim to be two feet shorter? Or you to be, I think for all of us, I think for all of us we can say. Get the backup moderator here. Part of the job is looking at the interviews that have come before this one so you don't ask the questions that everybody's had. Right, sorry.
34:20I'm sorry I'm sorry We're a fucking nightmare up here That was my personal favorite question On all these cards guys So you are really making me feel Five feet shorter in fact That's how I feel right now Is there a common A real question that people ask you Or want to say to you about your characters Do they want to engage about the dynamics of the characters or just say, your show rocks? People want to know if Adam is as hot in person as he's on the show. It's a lot of pressure. And what do you say? What do you say? I've said yes. And I say without the beard, no. But I also say, like, part of what makes him so hot is he has some of the similar attributes.
35:05He's incredibly kind, and he's wise, and he's thoughtful. And he's incredibly romantic about his partner, which is sexy as fuck. You know, like, that's hot. She's a lucky girl. Yeah, Adam, what? One night, I'll tell you one. This is random, and I don't know. It's probably just anecdote. It is literally an anecdote. But a lot of people have come up to me. A lot of people said they love the show. And a lot of people, I think because of the show is kind of so joyful, a lot of people have said, oh, I was going through a hard moment. And this really was a ray of sunshine for that. And I take it you've had the same.
35:46And that's been very nice and sort of unexpected. Yeah, people saying that it's my feel-good show has meant so much to me because I'm like, oh, yeah, that's all I want. Like, I want to be a part of projects that bring people joy. And to have it be someone's feel-good show is really special. Was it more a lot of cool guest stars in this season we should say as well More difficult to get Seth Rogen or Leiden Meester involved in the show guys who had a tougher negotiation? I wasn't involved in the seth of it, so I don't know It was very easy. I've known him since he was 18. I was a writer on undeclared and he is love that show started as and continues to be like the menchiest guy in the world and he loved the show and his wife Lauren loved the show and And he said yes in a second, and we were really lucky.
36:35And Adam and Seth were really funny together. I loved it. It felt like he was having fun that day. Very fun to meet him and watch him work and just share the space. Layton was really hard to get ahold of. She's elusive, that one. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, is that a no-brainer to, like, this will be fun? Is there a conversation? Yeah. Yeah. In fact, early on in the writers' room, they asked, would she want to do it? I'm like, yeah, write her something fun. and then they did and she did and I think, you know, good times by all. She is so funny. Yeah, amazing. So funny. Like, we were in the back going, who can we fire so we can make her, like, one of the leads of the show?
37:11This is crazy. You guys are all on the chopping block. Oh, thank God she doesn't play Jewish. I'm safe.
37:27Sorry. Oh, go. I'm really too much tonight. Is Dax just seething, ready for his part? Is he just like, when do I get in on this or what? No, he does not like acting. This just makes me want him more. That may be the long game, but he's just like, no, I'm over it. I like podcasting. I like talking to people. And I'm like, okay. I mean, of course I would love... And we did have some significant other action this season because Layton was on and Jackie's boyfriend, Joe Gillette, was on. And weirdly, those two played a couple, which was bizarre. And then, can I say that there was a drawing? That's all I can say.
38:16And Justine's husband, Tyson, is an artist and he drew the drawing. So it was very fun and familial. And Jenny's husband directed the last two episodes. What? Jenny's husband directed the last two episodes and Aaron's husband did the soundtrack yeah guys literally everyone's sleeping with everyone it's crazy and we put Bruce's wife and girls well she can come on our show too that's why I'm mentioning it here takeaway here is that nepotism is alive and well you had any doubts Jax comes for lunch a lot but I don't free crafty he wants that yes he wants the free food but I think he's not I mean I believe if I asked him to do it he would do it but I know that he loves his job and I don't want him to do anything that he's not like gunning to do I hesitate to ask this but I want to ask this tell me about the urine prank Justine I want to know about no I almost brought that up when you said what is everyone asking you in interviews people keep being like what is this urine prank okay so the urine prank is I know that Kristen's obsessed with pranks.
39:24Between takes, she'll come up to me and show me 16-minute Jimmy Fallon pranks that literally go on forever. She'll be like, keep on paying attention. It's just about to get good. She also is obsessed with biohacking. She does peptides. She has a glucose monitor on. She wears a weighted vest in between scenes and does squats. I'm not exaggerating. That is something that she does. Gotta get it in. I have videos. I was like, okay, how can we marry these two things together, the biohacking and the prank, and how can we do it in a way that's like pretty far out, but not so far out that she'll like do something entirely disgusting.
40:01And we settled on let's convince her that I'm drinking my own pee. And so for two months, basically two months. And also I want to let you know, Justin keeps using words like we and looking over here. And And from the beginning, I was like, I am not signing on to this. KB will fucking destroy us. This is a you thing. Yeah. So I did all kinds of things. I was pretty supportive of the endeavor. Yeah, you did. I made fake AI articles about how it was good for you and that it remineralizes your body. You really looked this up? Send it to me. I steeped chamomile tea and I would tell the base camp guy to come bring it to me in the middle of set.
40:46and I would have a phone call with him where I'd be like, hey, Rustin, is there any way that you could bring my thermos? And I don't know, I should probably tell you there is pee in it. Just as an HR protocol, I should probably let you know there's pee in that. She knew I was eavesdropping because I'm always eavesdropping. And then she'd get on set and we weren't even in the same area, but I was looking over and here's what I'd watch.
41:24And I was like... I just want to make sure you were busy. She called a doctor on set. I was like, is this okay? Dr. Mark. Dr. Mark from YouTube. I called Dr. Mike. Can't trust him. You can't trust him. He said, it's not going to kill her, but she could also just take a multivitamin. But the grand finale of the prank was that I steeped chamomile tea at different gradients and put them in a mason jar. Print gradients. Yes. A different, you know, peas comes in different colors. Oh, cool. So basically, I put them all in a cooler, and I brought them to set. On April 4th. And I brought them to her, and I said, Kristen, I brought you some of my best pea.
42:12and I ate all the good minerals so that it's like the best quality pee you could ever have and here you go and she looked at it and she goes I don't want this at this point my codependency is I'm jumping out of my skin and I'm just going like how do I tell this girl that I love so much that I think this is unsafe and also I do not want this urine I'm not going to take it home and I want to tell her to stop doing this but I don't want to tell her what to do, but I want to make sure she's being safe. Oh my God, this is so much pressure. And I just said, I don't want this. And then she said, April fools, and it was April 1st.
42:49And I got to tell you, I have never felt more loved. If I was going to predict the monster on this panel in for the long con, I was not going to point to Justine, but here we are. But it very much is. We all know. That I'm the monster. You would do that again before anyone would attempt it once. Yeah. I can only imagine what's cooking for season three. Already thinking? You know, I'm kind of waiting for Kristen to slap back. Balls in your court. Wouldn't you like to know? Are you proud of the environment you create on set that allows for this, guys? We didn't even know what was happening. I feel like we should have written more lines for them wait wait wait yes you did I told you guys I said you guys you are going to hear that I'm drinking my own pee and I need you to know that that's not actually happening at the very end you told us we were not on board earlier at all and it does not demand retaliation for us because we were not here's the thing is that when somebody tells you you're going to hear that I'm drinking my own pee and it's not true the only thing you can think is that's 100 % true.
44:04So in your defense, I think it's okay that you put that out of your minds. And what's funny about it is for two months I had to be okay with Dax thinking that I was drinking my own piss. Of course, I immediately went home and told him. I was like, honey, Justine told me she's drinking her own urine. And I just, I don't know, is that, should I be worried about her? I mean, I know she's kind of crunchy, but like, is it safe? And he was like, I don't know, look it up. I mean, it does sound kind of weird, but she did do my astrology chart the day that I met her. And I was like, oh, cool. So I don't know.
44:34I just chalked it up to like maybe keeping an eye on her. And like, does she, is she going to get sick? And I was watching her very closely, just like a mom does. And she never got sick because it wasn't real urine. What? Okay. I can't get this back on track. It's my own fault. So they've seen the first two. What's your favorite episode of this season? Nominate. Nominate one. What can they look forward to? I'm definitely not picking one. They're all like children. I mean, I love them all, so I'm not going to pick a favorite. I love some more than others. Like my children. What was yours? I don't know.
45:12I know I said it, but I'm not sure. I like the one. I think that's my favorite. I like the Valentine's Day episode. And Adam reminded me of it during this press tour and how good it was because there are so many incremental beats that are so real and form such great friction. And every single person in this audience will have felt one or the other of these sides. If you got the ick the first season. Oh, man. I like the ninth episode. That's very vague, but I like the ninth episode. Episode nine. The ones that are coming to mind are like one and I think five and nine. And I think I said this like when we were here for like the 92nd Street Y thing last year.
45:55of like what are we looking forward to and like the thing that I was looking forward to the most was like being back on set with the group and those I think have an aspect of everybody being around a table or being at a big party together and I just always love it I mean it's like a great day on set just selfishly it's a very fun day on set but I always like it I always like probably a very wonderful comment to all of you you're very wonderful to work with and it's it's really fun when you have a big group of people that can work really well together like that so those are the ones in my mind.
46:25I also love Purim. I was going to say, that's a fun one, and these guys don some iconic costumes, I will say. Did you have any choice on your respective outfits for that one? No. I didn't. Do we want to say? Can we say? Is that a spoiler? Well, it's kind of documented online, so it's not really secretive. I was Cinderella. I was a vampire. I had fangs in, which I loved, but it is funny because I'm talking with a lisp the whole episode. As I'm doing in like dramatic scenes. I was Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. I'm like a 30s style gangster, like the Tommy gun. And I am a sexy cat. She's fun, I told you, she's fun.
47:13She's into that stuff now. Everybody on brand, I feel like, in a way, yes? Also, Lynn as Madonna is chef's kit. Phenomenal. the um living up to the now iconic kiss in the first season i mean how do you you can't like orchestrate that right you can't be like okay next iconic kiss coming right up yes you can yes you can i mean once you see these guys in season one you're like just do that again is that the direction no but i think there's the kiss is so special because it's a first kiss and in real life that first kiss takes your breath away. But then there are things that that person can do that feel exceptionally romantic and unexpected in that first year of a relationship that no longer is the first kiss but is sort of that first gesture you didn't expect them to make.
48:10The thing that makes, you know, I mean you guys just watched the first episode so the bedside table to us was such a unique way to be romantic and sexy and grown up and feel seen. And so it was on us to find ways for him to show up for her like that romantically. Here's an either or. Would you rather shoot a falling in love scene or a breakup scene as an actor? What's more generally artistically rewarding? Falling in love is easier, I think. Maybe just, and I'm solely, having not read the scenes, I'm just basing it on the fact that that's happier and I'm more comfortable in happy emotions because they take a little less work to manufacture on camera.
48:57Yeah, I think so. I mean, I think a breakup, you certainly can get a little more heated and might have to dig a little deeper. But yeah, it's fun to kind of tap dance through a falling in love scene, I think, too. Hysterically laughing through a scene or hysterically crying, which would you rather do on set for a day? In the scene? Like crying? Laughing? Yeah, fake laughing, fake crying. What's harder? I think freeze to death.
49:27Always option C. Yeah. Tim is two feet shorter. That's always the answer.
49:38You guys have a hell of a soundtrack always for this show. What's the process? I mean, you get major artists. Is it always a yes? Is it always a negotiation? What's the process in kind of finding the right songs for the show? Well, season one, we had great music, but it was all music that was already out in the world. So, you know, you're paying to license the song. And then season two, because of the success of season one, our music supervisors, Aperture Music, thought that it would be a good idea to do a proper soundtrack, which means that the songs are unreleased and they're only released through the show.
50:16so that's where you would find it online. I didn't know that. Yeah, we have a soundtrack season too. So then when Aperture thought that would be a good idea, my husband Simon is in the music business and he sort of does that and so we figured it out and made a deal and it was honestly very cool to work together and watch him. The guy's obsessed with follow through. He's like, you know, I asked you to do that thing and I'm like, you gotta ask me three times. and we got amazing artists. We have an original Casey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, Teddy Swim, Selena Gomez, Toa Bird. We have, I mean, there's really, really amazing artists.
50:59Tim looks like he's in shock. Tim, have you not? What? I mean, that's cool. I didn't know that, but I'm like, I am personally not cool, so I don't like know a lot of musicians. That's fucking rad. But it is hard to get them, even though the show's successful, because what happens is that they, it means that sometimes they have to take that song off the album that they were working on, or they can't release it when they wanted to release it, and then they can only release it through the show, so there's a lot of, like, fighting for it. Is there a dream guest star next season, the season after that?
51:36Who's on the list? Anybody want to nominate someone they've worked with? Jenny had a great idea. It's like, on the count of three, are we all just going to sing? Adam Sandler. Yeah. we're all manifesting it together right now okay guys put it into the universe we're manifesting i was gonna say one two three barbara but adam sandler got me really excited and gollium all right i um so lynn's best friend is named goldie and i just always imagine it being goldie hahn so i just love the idea of goldie hahn showing up as by the way she's Jewish I feel like she's half, is she half Jewish from the Adam Sandler song?
52:15Goldie Hawn's half Jewish. Goldie Hawn's half too. Yeah, put them together. That's a fine looking Jew. Yeah.
52:28Bar mitzvah or wedding? What do you prefer? Bar mitzvahs are so fun. Yeah, I think it's a mitz for me. Then you don't have to like wait for them to take pictures and all that. There's a lot of waiting at weddings. Is there such a thing as a nobody wants this themed bar mitzvah or bat mitzvah yet? Has that existed in the universe? And what would that be? You mean is the theme Judaism? What's that? You go. Oh, no, I don't. That was the only joke I missed. I missed it. I missed it. Is the theme Judaism? Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's always funny when you have to say a joke a second time. And then Justine really just looked away.
53:04She had no reaction to it. She's like, should we get lunch?
53:12Have you guys started to, I mean, are you guys talking to these guys about what you want to see in season three? Or is that, are you in the waiting game right now? It doesn't need to happen. No? No. I mean, from my perspective, that does not need to happen. I remember going into the writer's room at the beginning of season two, and I felt, and I was like, okay, let's see what we got going on. And Erin, the first thing she said to me was, okay, we're going to give the audience what they want. That's what people are here for. We're going to give them what they want. And I was like, I didn't even know I needed to hear that, but it was so refreshing to be like, oh, yeah, because as I referenced before, I love when people have this as their feel-good show.
53:50And she's like, yeah, we're going to do more of that. Okay? That is a good Aaron. I'm not joking. That was very Aaron. That was like embodying the neck and the face, didn't you even think? Thank you very much, Jackie. And that comes along with a lot of details, But what that means is there's not going to be an earthquake this season. And we're not going to break them up every other episode. And we're not going to, you know, like, there's not going to be any crazy thing happening. This is going to be a love story about hyper-realistic, intimate moments that anyone could picture themselves in. And it's going to be very real.
54:21And I was so happy with the way season two's turned out. And so I don't feel like they need any advice from me about season three. I'm happy to say whatever they want me to say. But we do like to get feedback. Like, I mean, we do. We, you know, they come in. We talk to them about it. They have ideas. They have questions. That's really nice for us, too. Like, we're a very collaborative team, and it helps us. So when this drops in literally a few hours, who's going to be, like, online and who's going to turn their phones off? Well, it's going to be at 3 in the morning for us. Yeah, yeah. We're all going to be drunk.
55:01In a day. In a day. Like who actually wants to engage and who is going to run away? Yeah. Oh, do you normally? Or are you just for the sake of this? You're like not even online. You don't even have social media. I'll read reviews. Yeah, you'll read reviews. But are you going to like watch TikToks and stuff? I don't know how. I mean, I guess I would. You know how. I could figure it out, but the answer is no. The answer is no. But send me good stuff. Okay. You've never worked on the tick or the talk, Adam? Neither one. No. Yeah. Yeah. But, you know. For the best. All the best to it. TikTok as a sentient human.
55:39Good luck, TikTok. I wish you well. I think what's more important is feeling the groundswell emotion, which is what we felt the second season. At least that's what I feel like I can collectively plug into you guys and say, like, that feels wildly more important than, like, reading one person's opinion about it. But, like, when you see on the street and, like, you're at the grocery store and people are like, I loved it. And then you're just like, oh, my gosh, I'm starting to feel it. It's making people happy. I'm glad they're watching it. I care about your guys' opinion a lot more. I'm sure you're also going to have people just come up to you with, like, jars of urine saying, you know, give it a shot.
56:14Don't send me. Shots. Shots. Shots. Shots. Shots. You're all inside the podcast now, and we end the podcast with a profoundly random question. You guys ready for this? Here we go. Dogs or cats? Are we going down the line? We can. Yeah, yeah. You can jump in. Anybody? Dogs. Woof. Yeah. Dogs. Dogs. Dogs. Not a pet person.
56:41Dogs. But I'm saying cats. One defender of four cats. I see that for you. You all don't need to answer. You can jump in if you feel like it. Does anybody collect anything in the group? Miniatures. DVDs. I have so... Oh, my God. Tim. Does anybody love anything as much as Tim likes his physical media collection? Thank you very much for bringing that up, and I hope you guys have quite a bit of time. The thing about physical media is that the picture quality is a lot better. The sound quality, low-key, is a lot better. And yes, your house looks like a GameStop, but you always have access to movies that you want to see.
57:21That's maybe the first memory I have of Tim, is on our group text, the first photo that he put on the chain was him like in front of like a huge backdrop of like, I don't know, hundreds, thousands? Almost 1 ,000. I had just gotten like a really good, they remastered The Keep, which was a very early Michael Mann TV movie. It hadn't existed in a format in the United States. And they had a, there was a German, like there was like a German release. The Keep. It's like a bootleg. Guys, look, settle in. It's not a good movie. It's not a good movie for the rest. So anyway, I was really proud of that one.
57:56I feel like that was featured in the photo. You obviously have then all the Veronica Mars seasons and the OC seasons in the physical media collection, yes? The quality is better. The quality and the sound is better. Can I, I think Adam knows this. I've never seen the OC. I've never seen it. I don't think my wife has. I haven't. I haven't either. What? Good. He's never seen Veronica Mars. Not good. It's bad. As far as I knew, this guy was hitting hard in his first job. Last year, I was like, wow, this Adam kid's going places. This bearded late bloomer is amazing.
58:35This is the Dakota Johnson Memorial question. She asked me this. I ask everybody, would you rather have a mouthful of bees or one bee in your butt? I'll take it up the butt. Up the butt for sure. Up your butt for sure. Wait, beads or beans? Beans. Neither. Bees. Like bumblebees. Honey. Honey, honey. No, bumblebees. Bees. Oh, bees. What? You really said a lot about yourself. Let's do bees. Oh my God, just let me eat the beans, man. Uh, yeah, I suppose up the butt. Yeah, girls get our assholes waxed. Like, we're used to that kind of pain. I'm sorry. It's something - Bruce, what about you? Bruce?
59:13Bruce? The three of us are very confused right now. We don't know what's going on. The last actor anybody was mistaken for was? Well, I'm just, because you're kind of worse. I wasn't, was in real life. My real life one was that actually it used to be Zooey Deschanel. I had like big thick bangs and I don't know if I can say that. It's a little bit of a spoiler. They saw it. Oh my God, you said it. I saw it. I saw it and you said it. You are. Anyways, that's a real story. and when I told them, they were like, obviously say that. So then I said it as Esther and it was, when that happened to me, I thought my shit did not sink.
59:57I was like, yeah, so everyone thinks I'm her. So, cool. At the SAG Awards for this show last year, I was in a conversation with a woman at the after party and she told me how much she enjoyed the show and how much it meant to her and she really hoped good things for me and 30 seconds in, it became clear she thought I was the guy from Baby Reindeer. And we were so far down this path, including selfies, that I just was like, I felt like it would hurt her too much. So for like three minutes, I just pretended I was the guy from Baby Reindeer. And I was like, yeah, I got a couple things that I've been developing that I'm really excited about.
1:00:43I'm trying to remember any detail of his life. Did you speak in a British accent? No, I didn't go into the accent. Did you ever tell her? No. This is a hell of a way to find out for her. Yeah, she's going to show a picture. Like, I met the guy from Baby Reindeer, and it's going to be me. Good. Anybody else? Anybody ever mistaken? No? I get called Adrian Brody more than my real name, but I don't think people think I'm him. They just, the names are close. Anybody have a worst note a director has ever given them? Go to that deep, dark place. Yeah? I don't know if this is a note, but I had a great college acting coach who would stop scenes by yelling, Boring!
1:01:35And then she'd be like, You're going to be a nothing burger from bumfuck nowhere! Boring! that's like the one that's she was great we loved her nothing burger is mine now
1:01:55we want to end on that one that pearl of wisdom yeah I mean no one's going to beat it guys I love this cast I love this gang congratulations on season 2 nobody wants this spread the good word look at this audience thank you guys for that time Thank you.
1:02:42The war is over and both sides lost. Kingdoms were reduced to cinders and armies scattered like bones in the dust. Now the survivors claw to what's left of a broken world, praying the darkness chooses someone else tonight. But in the shadow dark, the darkness always wins. This is old school adventuring at its most cruel. Your torch ticks down in real time, and when that flame dies, something else rises to finish the job. This is a brutal rules-light nightmare with a story that emerges organically based on the decisions that the characters make. This is what it felt like to play RPGs in the 80s, and man, it is so good to be back.
