In short

The episode argues that the DOJ/FBI under Donald Trump is downplaying an attempted assassination of Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton. It claims law enforcement should investigate threats, including digital evidence, but instead MAGA figures are calling it a “hoax” or “staged.” The alleged incident: at the Canfield Fair, a man with two firearms and a taser approached Acton at a Democratic Party tent, knocking over fairgoers before being apprehended; the sheriff, Jerry Green (supporting Vivek Ramaswamy), called it a “security incident” and said the man was “insistent” about asking questions. The host criticizes Laura Loomer’s “hoax” claims and compares the rhetoric to prior political-violence cases. Notable example: the episode references JFK and attempted assassinations of Trump.

0:00Michael Popok:The FBI, the Department of Justice under Donald Trump, they're hiding behind right wing MAGA influencer Laura Loomer, self-proclaimed enabler of Donald Trump, who is running interference for them so that they don't lift a finger to investigate what appears to be the attempted assassination of a Democrat running for Ohio governor in Amy Acton. What do they think just happened at the Ohio fair that Amy Acton was attending when she was in a party, a Democratic party tent at the Canfield fair and a guy with two firearms and a taser approached her with menacing intent, knocking over fair goers to get to her before he was apprehended.

0:48And you have the sheriff of the county who's supporting Vivek Ramaswamy, her Republican candidate, who says, well, it was a security incident. He just wanted to ask her a couple of questions. Really? That's not what the Ohio State Troopers think. And I don't know. I've asked a lot of questions of a lot of people in politics. I've never done it with two pistols in my pocket and a taser. That was an attempted assassination that was stopped and thwarted, probably by accident, given the response of the sheriff's department. And where is the Department of Justice and the FBI? Sure, she's not a federal candidate for office, but her civil rights were almost violated.

1:28Who's going back and seeing what's on his computer? What's on his social media? What's in his diary? What other threats are there? Is there a long list of people that he has grievances against in Republican circles and Democrat circles? And what we hear is absolutely nothing. All I hear is Vivek Ramaswamy calling it a security incident. Right. Just like the assassination of JFK or the attempted assassinations of Donald Trump were just security incidents. And Laura Loomer allowed and basically, I am sure, pushed into the story by the rapid response team in the White House.

2:08Michael Popok:I'm Michael Popak. I'm fired up. I'm in the Midwest. I'm in Detroit for the Democratic Attorney General's conference, doing some interviewing with them about voter intimidation, about armed forces at the polls and what the Democratic Attorneys General are doing about it. But the story about Amy Acton can't be left alone. It has to be further explored. You can't gaslight us and say that when a guy asks a question, has two guns in his pocket, he was just very, or as the sheriff said, who supports Ramaswamy, he was just very insistent. This is the sheriff, Jerry Green. He was just very insistent about asking his questions.

2:53First of all, the spectators, the fair goers, nobody heard the guy say a word. He wasn't trying to ask a question. And even if he was asking a question, Who knows what would have happened next? This is a party, the Republican Party, that just lost one of their own and Charlie Kirk were coming up on the anniversary of the murder, right, as he was answering questions. And then a shot rang out. What needs to happen before the Department of Justice, the Civil Rights Division led by Harmeet Dillon, the Department of Justice led by Stan Woodward and Todd Blanch and Donald Trump, start protecting Democrats the way they protect Republicans.

3:35I mean, it still galls me that Donald Trump never made a public statement after elected officials were killed in Minnesota, including their family pet. Nothing. As if it didn't happen. Well, it did happen. we just you know we have a senator in uh arizona uh who mark kelly whose wife gabby giffords was running for the senate by all rights should be a senator she was a very popular congresswoman and she was shot and killed during a campaign stop we just avoided that with amy acton and i don't want to hear from vivek ramaswamy and his coming out and saying well it was just a security incident. Then when they asked him about, well, what about Laura Luber saying it was a hoax?

4:24It was staged. It was planned, that there was no attack. What do you say about that?

4:30Michael Popok:Oh, I don't know anything about that. Play the Vivek Ramaswamy clip. The first and most important thing is I am very grateful that Dr. Acton and her family are doing well. That's the most important thing. And we're truly happy and relieved to hear that. The second thing I want to say is I'm really grateful to the law enforcement in this state. that includes the Ohio State Highway Patrol, who do an outstanding job of both protecting our family and Dr. Acton's family, as well as the local sheriffs and law enforcement. That's a big deal and important part of this as well. And then the most important thing I want to say is that political violence has no place in America, period, full stop.

5:09Vigorous debate, yes, that's important. And I think we do need to have vigorous debate in a civil way. that's the way we demonstrate who we are as leaders. And it's up to us to set that example for the rest of the state. And I hope the rest of the country to follow. I think it would be constructive if Dr. Acton and I were both able to be on that debate stage, demonstrate what an actual contest of ideas and a contest of vision, and even defending our respective records, even vigorously, even disagreeing with one another. We cannot and will not and must not ever even normalize the thought or threat of political violence.

5:45And that's been a core theme of mine for the last several years. And I'm going to be as vocal on that as I've ever been.

5:50Michael Popok:Look, if Ohio wants a failed presidential candidate running for Ohio governor on the Republican side, so be it. Amy Acton was the former chief health official, got that, navigated that state through COVID, given the guidelines and directions from the federal government and did and did well. And now she's running for Ohio governor. Putting aside the politics for a minute, she shouldn't have to worry about being at the Canfield Fair and having a person coming up with menacing intent and two weapons try to blow her head off or anybody else around. Apparently, he didn't care about this guy that's now been charged, Patrick Haver or Havas, sorry.

6:31He doesn't seem to care about anybody around him. He knocked over fairgoers. He could have pulled a gun started killing everybody.

6:37Michael Popok:That it was averted doesn't mean it didn't happen. Doesn't mean that it was a hoax or it was staged. Who staged it, Laura Loomer? You know, it's easy, it's cheap to sit behind a keyboard, to sit behind a microphone and say made up shit that you have no basis in, right? We have a word for that. It's called defamation. It's called libel. I know you don't think you're a journalist. I know you don't think you're subject to defamation laws, but you are. And so when you say something like, it's a hoax, it's staged, yeah? Show me. Show me one document, one witness, one piece of evidence, one video clip that proves your assertion that a person who's running for office to be the governor of Ohio wasn't subjected to an attempted assassination.

7:28And this shouldn't be a state issue only. They just charged him with disorderly conduct and assault under state law. Disorderly conduct and assault? How about attempted

7:40Michael Popok:assassination of a potential elected official who's running for office? And where is the Ohio attorney general because they should be opening an investigation. This is not okay. And it's not going to be diminished because of the vocabulary used by the Republicans and their enablers. I'm not going to let it. This audience isn't going to let it. We know what just happened. If a guy with a gun four holes ahead of Donald Trump sticking out of a bush was an assassination attempt, if a guy a floor below the White House Correspondents Dinner who's apprehended is an assassination attempt, if all of that is an assassination attempt, then what just happened to Amy Acton is an assassination attempt.

8:33Michael Popok:And he should be so investigated and this guy should be so charged. And that's what Vivek Ramaswamy should be calling out, that we should get to the bottom of it. What do you think is on this guy's laptop? Poetry? Does anybody put it in comments? Does anybody think if you opened up his laptop and this guy's social media accounts and his dark web accounts and maybe his handwritten Unabomber-like diary, you're not going to find comments about Amy Acton or other Democrats or maybe even Republicans? You're not going to find other... What about his house? Are they searching his house? What else is in there?

9:13This guy's going to be out on a$50 bailout on disorderly conduct and assault. He's probably out right now. Back to his house. Back to his cache of weapons. Back to his ammunition. Maybe back to his bombs. Just in time for the Republican midterm convention. Hooray! Hooray! We live in the Trump era where he blows his dog whistle

9:40Michael Popok:and he leads his followers, many of them unstable, many of them destabilized, many of them mentally impaired with mental health problems or abuse problems, leads them to these bad places. And we're going to cover it. I'm on the road. You'll be seeing my reporting from the Democratic Attorney General's Association Conference in Detroit. I've got some fantastic panels coming up. Let me just give you an idea. I've got Rob Bonta, Attorney General of California. A.G. Dana Nessel of Michigan. A.G. Nick Brown of the state of Washington. A.G. Jay Jones of Virginia. A.G. one after another, Lopez of Hawaii.

10:32Michael Popok:And you're going to be watching them with me talking about voter intimidation, protection of the mail-in ballots, protection of voters' rights at polling places, protection of voter data. It's going to be an all-voter, hands-on deck. We're 50-something days left to the midterms, and we're fighting all the way with your help. Now's the time. Popok calls out the Trump DOJ and FBI for ignoring the attempted attack, with 2 firearms, on Democratic Ohio Governor Candidate Amy Acton at a local state fair, as Trump hides behind a right-wing podcaster's unsubstantiated claims that it was all a "hoax", and her opponent Vivek Ramaswamy follows suit.
