In short

The hosts riff on leap years and time changes, then share personal stories about meeting media hero Sir Trevor McDonald and “future-pacing” social media posts for when someone dies. They also discuss Lu’s “bank account shame” after discovering large credit-card and subscription charges, especially Apple/Adobe-related costs, and the need to overhaul subscriptions. The episode then shifts to “Reco Seco” recommendations (hair extensions, shower oil, a towel/pyjama warming routine, and a book on AI and sexism). Finally, they read listener updates and advice requests: one about inviting an abusive/toxic ex to a wedding, and another about step-parenting boundaries and blending two families.

Guests

No named guests appear; it’s a solo-host/panel-style episode with listener messages.

Key claims

Sir Trevor McDonald is portrayed as inspiring and “a pleasure,” and Lu’s spending is framed as overwhelming but fixable via partner-led audits. For the wedding update, the “shark in the water” reframing is offered. For step-parenting, the hosts argue blended families must operate as “one united front.”

Notable examples

Lu “papped” Sir Trevor and saved Instagram stories; the Amex fraud scare turned into her own purchases plus an Adobe subscription cancellation fee; the stepmom story includes a 10-year-old who only eats pasta/chicken nuggets and teaches “tea bagging.”

0:59Anna Williamson:This is a Global Player original podcast. Be warned, it's Luanna and this podcast contains honest, upfront opinions, rants, fans, general explicit content, but you know you love it. Hello. It's the start of a fresh new week in Luannaland. It's the final countdown to Luannaland. But what to? I don't know. Of the month. Well, what date are we on today? Last week of the month. Last week of the month. 23rd of February. Is it a leap year this year? No. No. Oh, gutted. My friend, her little boy, was born on the 29th. Yeah, so he's not even one yet, but he's actually four, about three, whatever that is.

1:37Yeah.

1:38Anna Williamson:I was like, that's unfortunate. Oh, because he's only had one birth. Yeah. Yeah, has to have the birth in 28th. Did they celebrate on the 28th? 28th. Or on the 1st. 28th, I think. They've gone for the earlier option. Yeah. What is that elite? What's it for? I don't really know. Who decided that? What kind of cosmic? planet stuff. Yeah, it's like the moon and circadian rhythms and sunshine around the earth. Maybe we'll just get rid of it though. Well, as in why does the leap year happen? Well, just get rid of it. Well, I think it goes back down to like medieval. Doesn't it go back to like, you know, whole Stonehenge bollocks?

2:14But why do we change our clocks and then sometimes other countries don't?

2:18Anna Williamson:Does Dubai change clocks? No. Because... Interesting. Well, we do British summertime, don't we? Yeah, and America does. Whatever they do. What's that called again? No, yeah, when you get it on the GMT. No, we're GMTV. We're Greenwich Mean Time. GMTV. GMTV. No, we're Greenwich Mean Time. What's America? I'm always doing like webinars. America time. Yeah, America time. They've got multiple. CMT. They've got multiple. Do they? Yeah, because if you think California. They've got Eastern Standard. They've got Mountain. Yeah, Eastern Standard. That's what I was thinking of. Right. Right. Right, come on, let's get some in there.

2:53Anyway, should we crack on with our podcast? If you're not following us, please follow us on your favourite podcast platform. And do subscribe on YouTube. Manana YouTube. Manana? Manana? Yeah, manana. Manana means... Tomorrow. Do you know what it means? Tomorrow. Well, manana.

3:08Anna Williamson:It also means morning, so... Exactly. Can I just say, guys, I mean, we are an award-winning podcast and God knows why. I forgot my daffodils. Oh, you were going to put daffodils in. Well, do you know what? Don't worry. I'll do it next. Yeah, we're getting into spring now. One second. I'll just have a quick Did You Know With MA. Oh. Bringing that back. There we are. Hello, 25. Bring it back. Guess who introduced the first leap year system in 46 BC? Jesus. BC, you dicks.

3:42Why is that funny? Because we're in sick. And it amused us, okay? And that is why we are friends.

3:52Anna Williamson:Yeah, why are we, Luanna? Before Christ. Okay, before Christ. God. Julius Caesar. Oh. Makes so much sense. No, it doesn't. He had a lot to answer for, didn't he, old JC? He did. JC, before JC. Before JC, yeah. Go on, what did old Caesar do then? And Julius Caesar invented, well, he didn't invent it, but that's where the name Caesarian comes from. Did you know that? Lovely. Caesar, Caesarian. What, because cutting out? I think they must have, I don't know, but it comes from there. He introduced it to align the calendar with the Earth's solar cycle. How did he know that, though? He didn't have a telescope, did he, back then?

4:30Anna Williamson:He was probably advised by some people. Moon people. He was advised by an astronomer called Sausagenes. Good name. I'm not sure about Sausage Man. I think we can probably then get rid of it. It's been a while. It's been a while. It's run its course, the old leap, yeah. Quite a long time, hasn't it? Yeah, well, that's it. It's about time we sacked that off. I think it's about time too. Right, we have officially sacked off the leap year. Boom, boom, shakalaka. Now listen, something we haven't sacked off is, I might have to rephrase that because that could be very, very dodgy. My obsession with Sir Trevor MacDonald.

5:08Anna Williamson:Oh yes. Sir Trevor. You're Nelson Mandela. And guess who he famously interviewed? Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela. I love Nelson Mandela. When Nelson Mandela was freed, it was Sir Trev. yeah I met Sir Trevor not that long ago did you ask him about Nelson Mundell? yes and he told me the most amazing stuff like can I just I mean I just wanted to just so this man I think I've got like some issue around like losing my grandparents because whenever I see an old person I didn't see your nan Imo when we met her at the Luanna road trip I like get tearful and I want to like adopt a grandparent and I don't know why because I've got very nice parents but grandparents seem to do it to me well I met Sir Trevor I was doing this job and they were like Sir Trevor's the guest speaker but Sir Trevor's 86 so we need someone would you be happy to interview Sir Trevor I was like god would I he's in my top 3 of dinner party guests yes I would anyway because I was doing this job obviously Sir Trevor arrives and then we're sort of in the green room for ages and I was like this is amazing you tickled his balls no I didn't I've got to be respectful I did have to ask him can I tickle your balls No.

6:20Anna Williamson:Consent. You know what, let me tell you. Very handsome man, Sir Trevor. 86 years old. So you did want to tickle his balls. Well, let's just say Sir Trevor is a very distinguished man. And he looked very smart in his suit. But I did completely fawn all over him. He's got a bit of a cheeky side to him. A bit of a cheeky side. A little bit of a, you know, a little bit of a minx in him, I think, old Sir Trevor. Did he leave you throbbing? Very much so. And I said, I... I can't remember what I say now. Oh, you just throw me in there. I keep thinking about Sir Trevor. Yeah, no, stop it. That's really inappropriate.

6:54Anna Williamson:You said to him. You said to him. No, I did say, again, why do I have this? I have this weird mentionitis about you. And I'm like, because then he started talking about, like I said, you know, the stories we want to talk about, you know, what are the most standout ones in your life? And he said, oh, well, you know, obviously. Did you say my friend's got an obsession with Nelson Mandela? Yes, I did. Did you say my friend is related to Nelson Mandela? No, I didn't. But I said. I probably related to Trevor McDonald. No, you're not. at all. I could be. Well yes but I did say Nelson Mandela, I said well it's funny you say that I said because you know obviously great man great man, I said but it's been put even more into my sort of ether because of my good friend Louisa.

7:33Anna Williamson:Have you heard of her? No, he hasn't heard of me either. No he hasn't heard of me Lou. He's fine, he hasn't heard of me either. It's fine. He's too refined for us. Too refined for us. I don't want Trevor listening to this. I don't want him listening to this. No. Listen drops. No. He's a very I'd be embarrassed if Nelson Mandela listened. Well, yes, he can't, but yes. Anyway, so then he told me about when he met Nelson. And I said, well, my good friend Louisa, I said, she loves Nelson Mandela. And he said it was one of the greatest days, you know. Really? And I was like, oh, my God, that's iconic.

8:00Anna Williamson:Then he told me about, oh, I know, all I kept thinking about was you. And then I thought to myself, I went down a weird, like, brain hole of, if Lou was here with me meeting Sir Trevor, and I think I love Sir Trevor about as much as you love Nelson Mandela, actually. Yeah, it's a lot. It's a lot. I was like, I kind of want him to be my granddad. Like, you know, does he want to come around for dinner? How is he? Is he lonely? No, he's not. Does he have a good family? He's got a good family. He's married. He's got children. And, you know, we talked all about that. Lovely man. So I don't think he really wanted to adopt me as a granddaughter, even though I did try.

8:34Anna Williamson:But I did, as I was sitting there talking to him, I was like, this is what it must feel like if Lou met Nelson. And I never got that chance. And you never got that chance. And I was there. And I sat on stage, Lou. And I sat on stage. Genuinely. This is not, I'm not even taking kisses. Yes. No one saw me cry. But you had a moment. I did. I had a real moment. Did you have to do that? Blinking. Blinky, blinky. And I was on stage talking to Sir Trevor. He was telling us about, now it's my dad, the most amazing story about when he also met Saddam Hussein as well. Like that was a crazy story when he talked about meeting Saddam Hussein and like having to go in all these like unmarked cars and then like he's like, so dangerous.

9:12Anna Williamson:So when you hear about his career, you're like, you are just. He's got balls. incredible right suck on my job no I'm going to be refined Imo do not encourage her he's a refined man what would you do if you were just injuring him and you were like you have got balls of steel and he just cracked into that song if he did that I mean he would be in godlike status for me these little like imaginations come to me like these little scenarios and I wish that they had them I think this is the brain that you are blessed with Lou but I did sit on the stage talking to him and I did have a little out of body moment where it was like I was watching myself interviewing Trevor just like we have clothes like this and he's talking to me and he's, you know and you're like, what the fuck?

9:56Anna Williamson:And I was like, I've been doing telly for 27 years and never did I expect to sit next to one of my broadcasting heroes I had a little tear, a little lump When a hero comes along With the strength to carry on It was so Trevor So it was probably one of the greatest days of my life And he might die soon so you're really lucky to do that Well, can I make a real honest confession? You think he was? No, no. And this is really. Did you think he might have been having a stroke? No. Heart attack? No, none of that. Anything death? No, I went into, this is why our brains are just weird. I then started thinking about, you know, when I papped dead Nana?

10:34Anna Williamson:Yes. It was kind of a similar mindset I was in. I was like, this is probably the only chance I'm ever going to meet Sir Trevor. So did you pap? I did a lot of papping with Sir Trevor. and I did then think when he dies you were going to post that I'm going to post that on Instagram I knew that she was going to say that I did I was like I've now got this in my Becca's girl just shaking her head you basically got a picture with Sir Trevor McDonald so that when he carks it that's your tribute and you took that with that intention and I bet you got like really close so you know like when people are like oh someone's died and then they're like oh my face is touching this I even went as far as I was doing like live stories on Instagram and then I like download and save them onto my camera roll just in case as well.

11:16Wow.

11:17Anna Williamson:Because I do love him that much. I was sending the pictures over to my mum and dad. I hope you're not because of death to him. I hope not. I would like to honestly say, and I've hoped to the love of God, none of Sir Trevor MacDonald's families or loved ones listening to this. But if you are, please pass on to Sir Trevor. You're condoning Sir Trevor. For his impending death. He is my absolute hero. He was genuinely such a pleasure to me. What a nice man. His story around how he just came to England, came into journalism, and was the first black news broadcaster and how he just paced away. Where is he from originally?

11:49Trinidad. Probably, oh no, that's Caribbean.

11:52Anna Williamson:Yeah. I'm African. We're not related. Oh, you're not related, no. No, gotcha. But his story, honestly, it's so inspiring and I just love him so much and it was probably the greatest day of my life and I just wanted to share it. So thank you. Thank you so much. This is a safe space. Thank you. I'm a bit embarrassed now that I have papped Trevor, a live Trevor. You packed a live Trevor ready to post when he's dead. You do know. I never can do that now. My good granddad. Yeah. You know that. Imo had already written the post in my head. Harping back to what a legend. What a legend. So Trevor had the pleasure of meeting.

12:26She's the kiss of death.

12:26Anna Williamson:It's bad, isn't it? Yeah. Surely I'm not the only one that like has, you know, thought ahead and future paced when people snuff it in their lives. Lufanians, get my back here. I bet you thought about what happens. Like if I always think if I die, how many people are going to come to my funeral? I do think that will I be popular like will people go oh that was the biggest funeral I've been to or a bit average wasn't that loved yeah like I do think about that no it will be a big funeral yours and yours and everyone's actually yeah everyone tell me I'm not on my own guys that you save photos now thinking what if that person goes you've then got the photo like I do do that if I met Elton John I would do that again I don't think I got a picture with him when I met him no I know and I've met him a couple of times yeah you need that photo and I think I should have got a picture I think don't be embarrassed of asking for photos.

13:12Anna Williamson:Just, you know, you've got to have that photo. Now everyone's going to be asking for photos with you guys. That's true. I reckon, I reckon there's a Lufanian out there and please email it, luana at everythingluana.com. If you have met your hero, like I met Sir Trevor and that Lou would love to have met either Margaret Thatcher or Nelson Mandela. Well, I'm just going to AI myself with them actually. You should actually. And what happened? Do you have a photo with someone like mega famous with your hero, send it in to us. Send in the story of how you got that photo. I bet there are lots of people that do that.

15:05Anna Williamson:What I want to know about, in particular, though, is... Oh, you want to know about my bank account shame. Right, so all Lou said, so she said this morning, she went, oh, I've got to share with you my bank account shame story with the front of Andrew. Straight away, I'm in. I want to know this. What happened? Right, so Andrew... She's making a face. She's making a face. I'm really tired as well, and I couldn't be arsed with this. And he's like, babe, I think there's been fraud on the Amex. I was like, really? What? Why? And he's like, wow, you're living in Dubai, and like£4 ,000 has been spent on it this month.

15:38And is this like the JA? Would you say this is like a joint account? No, this is just, well, it's my Amex, but his account. Got it, yeah. So I don't put any money into it. No, exactly. So anyway, I was like, oh, I don't think there's been any fraud. He said, well, I just don't understand what all these purchases, actually, you guys have got some blame in this. And he was like, I don't understand what all these purchases are. well he starts going through it doesn't he and he's like amazon amazon he's like but why is amazon still taking out when you're in england and i was like well i flew back and i had to order some things for the horses to bring back with me so that was a lot of that and then he starts like well let's make sure it's not fraud darling just open up my amazon account he's like checking that against that like no that was me yeah that was also me you spent four thousand pounds on amazon Well, then the fucking thing for our Galentines, that was all on there.

16:35How much did you spend on that? Timmy was on there. Well, probably only a couple of hundred, but you know. How do we make it? I don't know how it was so much. What else did you buy? Well, then I said, well, probably his fraud. I said, maybe. Stop it.

16:49Anna Williamson:No way. Well, maybe it was. And then I was like, well, maybe it wasn't fraud. Then he obviously didn't report it as fraud because I had to fess up. And then he was like. And what is this? Apple, Apple. I don't know what it was, but it is me. But I think, oh, and then, oh, did I complain about this? Right, remember last year? No, like maybe two years ago when we did our Troxy brunch and we did that clit or tit game and I made the dice thing. And I downloaded Adobe pictures so I could get like clip art and artwork from Adobe. Oh, yeah. And I had to sign up to it. well I didn't realise didn't unsign didn't unsign and that has been costing me £120 or something a month a month?

17:39yeah it's so expensive stop it I didn't realise anyway then when it took it out and I got a notification I was like oh my god that's so bad so I was like shit I've got to cancel it I went on to cancel it check your subscriptions guys because I cancelled it like six months early it charged me £130 to cancel it anyway so that was on there double whammy of that I was like dying at this point started going through line by line

18:06Anna Williamson:oh no it's when you print out the bank statement with the highlighter pen it was bad you got highlighted by your boyfriend by your husband and he's like well what is this up and I was like well the thing is you know when I smashed up the kids iPads he was like yeah I was like well I'm still paying for like roadblocks every month You've told me this. And I can't get... Yeah, we need to look into that. I can't get rid of it. Wow. I think I jinxed myself because we talked about this last time. Yeah, you did. And now he's found out about it. And then I was like, I'm really embarrassed because, oh, audible.

18:42Still paying for that, aren't I? $8.99 a month. Although, congratulations. You said audible, not audible.

18:48Anna Williamson:So that's a win. Yeah. I've been paying for that. But anyway, I felt so ashamed. and then he went to me, darling, this money is so hard to earn and you're just got hundreds of pounds. He was like, I'd be sick if that was me because then I opened up my own bank account. With zero going out. And all it is, all you can see, because I've not been spending money on that English bank account because now I've got my Dubai account, it's all Apple, hundreds of pounds. Stop. It's really bad. I am so ashamed of myself. We need to go through an Apple subscription overhaul. No, I did that. I've been on my subscription.

19:26Oh, do you have done that? I think it's like the kids. I don't know what it is. I don't know where it's coming from.

19:30Anna Williamson:Do they have free reign on your passport? No. So it should have been linked to me because I approved them all. I think I have to try and log in as them. Anyway, I was so shamed. And then he was like, we need to sit down and go through this. And we need to call your bank. This is so bad. Oh, my God. You got properly, J.A., shamed by your husband. like three, four hundred pounds a month. I mean, it is ridiculous. I mean, it is quite a lot, to be fair. I mean, he is right. Andrew did not become this successful man he is now by wasting money. And I felt really ashamed. And I was so embarrassed. I just had to pretend to cry.

20:04So he didn't keep going on about it. Stop it. Yes, I did. Did you pretend to cry? Yes, I went, I'm so embarrassed. And I said, my ADHD is... Oh, always blame that.

20:15Anna Williamson:Always blame that. He went, well, why can't you just sit down and do it? And I went, my ADHD is so bad. I'm not like you. I can't just sit down and focus and focus on this for like two hours of my life. And then I have to ring the bank. And then I have to ring Apple. And it's overwhelming. And I can't do it. And I'm not good at stuff like that. When I'm not, that is true. No, that's why you're married to Andrew. And I said, and now it's run away with me. And I'm ashamed of myself. Did he, did he like, oh no. Felt bad. Did he feel bad? good. There it is. There it is. If in doubt, guys, have a little cry.

20:54Anna Williamson:But it is overwhelming. It is overwhelming. I don't know how I got myself into this situation. When you rack up a lot of debt on your joint account, yes. But I would say, in support of your husband, it is a good idea to sit down with your partner and just overhaul any joint accounts. Because the amount of people, gym memberships and subscriptions and all that crap. I know. Everything you've just listed there, quite honestly, is highly relatable because I think if we were all honest with ourselves and had a look through all of our subscriptions and you know my phone bill is out of control how much is your phone bill every month £190 minus what no I'm on a sim only I'm only on£20 a month yeah I don't know why am I on that do you own your phone outright no I'm paying for it well you should just pay for the phone outright I just pay for the sim I have a better phone than you and I'm paying like a third yeah yeah well Lou we need to overhaul your accounts I think we're all with your husband now, actually.

21:48Anna Williamson:Shall we sit down with her tonight and sort out her life? Sort your first. And they've increased... Your bill, this is on Tuesday, I've got this. Your bill is£194.04 this month. Is it because you're paying for data or something? Please note, from April, you will see an increase on your bill of£2.50. And then Dixie's costing me£80. What? You need to overhaul that, babes. That's really bad. I pay£19.90 a month, I pay for my phone bill. Are you unlimited? Yeah. I own my phone. But I don't, yeah, but there's not that much. There's probably only like 300 quid left on my phone. I'm limited everything.

22:21And I have got a Dubai sim. So it's not like when I'm in Dubai, I click my Dubai sim into place. Well, anyway, I've started working with a good company now called Holofly and I'm just on their plan. Oh, my God. Because that's like worldwide. Okay. So that's good. Well, I think, do you know what, guys?

22:38Anna Williamson:I think what is lovely about this is that Lou is being that open and vulnerable about her purchasing. It's really bad. It's really bad. I mean, your purchasing is out of control, yeah. But we would like to take full pressure. I felt like as well. Can I say what? It's even worse. Go on. I really thought I was saving a lot of money living in Dubai and that I hadn't been shopping as much. Oh, God. And I was really proud of myself. Like, my Amazon addiction, I've kicked. Have you? You know, like, yeah, I've only been to a mall once since I lived there because I'm always so busy with the horses. Why are you spending money on them?

23:07I don't know. Well, I do often, like... I don't even eat a lot, so it's not even delivery. You did have a burrito obsession. I was ordering a lot of frites

23:15Anna Williamson:and then they'll well I mean can I just say and I'm all here and I'm all here for I'm ashamed of myself I'm all here for this life in the sunshine I am do you spend a lot of money on crumble well there you go my slight issue for you is the reasons of moving to Dubai yes were to get I mean all around sunshine is a tick although okay there's that but it was the crime thing but we've established as of the other week that crime I'm a victim too You've been a victim of the crime out there. And also just, you know, as we all know, one of the big draws for going to the UAE is saving money, making the pound work a little bit harder.

23:52Anna Williamson:Turns out that's not really working in your favour. So we love that you're being transparent about this. And I would just say teething problems, babes. It's just teething problems. I blame Emma. She said she was going to help me with this. We both forgot. We'll sort it tonight. Excellent. I mean, to be fair, Emma, it isn't really your responsibility. No, but we will. But Emma sorts everything for me, okay? And Mo is my fixer. And I'm going to be honest. It's anything I need ever in my life, actually. Actually, to be fair, Team New Anna is actually, in my life now... It's good content, Ben. But it's true.

24:25Anna Williamson:In my life now, I have reached a point where I am so content. You know, people go, why are you so content, Anna? And I'm like, why am I so content in my life? I hope it doesn't sound like my own ass, but I do feel content in life. Like, because I've got all my bases covered. You're right. if you're here Lou for like a lot of my shit I need in life okay psychological needs fun needs work emo and Bex anything that requires anything technical or intelligent you are straight away in the amount of messages I get from Anna a week that are being like if you wouldn't mind Bex give us a hundred and a half literally I think it's pop your face if you wouldn't mind I don't do that do I I'm low maintenance it's a pleasure but I'm now at a point where I'm just like just pop it on the invoice don't even mind what it is now but I have become that lazy now with anything that involves technical it's these two I really want to do better with technical my husband is basically my husband's built our house I haven't even bothered to look at my house and he broke his arm in the process Bex talking about technical what did you think of my reel for Crumble's groom I saw it it was very good was this the dog van that came outside your house I don't think I saw it Cute Crumble Collins.

25:38It was pretty good. I did the narrator thing that you taught me about. How many followers are on this dog account?

25:42Anna Williamson:Think about 5 ,000. She's got her dog account, everyone. Funny that, isn't it? After slating people with dog accounts. Can we just insert the rant of the slagging off dog accounts and influencers from whatever year that was in? Also, the slagging off dressing gowns. We all now know that Lou loves a fucking dressing gown. Well, I reserve the right to be a hypocrite. So do I, to be fair. Before we move on to Red Cosecum, can I tell you about something really lovely that you're all going to really like is that basically we have a soundtrack time sorry talking about Crumble I spoke on the pod about this brand that I discovered and they didn't gift me I bought everything yeah go on and called By Teddy and basically like they just seem like this really nice young couple and they started this brand and their stuff's amazing and I really like it and I bought some for Crumble.

26:39And anyway, I got a lovely message from the lady. Oh, right.

26:44Anna Williamson:Go on. And she said, hi, lovely. I wanted to say a huge thank you for your support. Mentioning us on your podcast had a crazy impact. We've been trying to get in contact with the Selfridges buyer for a while and she emailed us asking for a meeting. Wow. And that she had heard about us on your podcast. Wow. I really believe it wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for you so thank you that's amazing that made me so happy because I was like oh my god that's like the coolest thing so hi Selfridges by her and well done by Teddy and the lovely team over there because their stuff is amazing it's like proper elite high end like dog stuff Imo I could probably blag you some stuff for Norman yes please Yes, she will.

27:34Anna Williamson:Well, that is a really nice, lovely piece of success. And she said if Crumble would like a gift, let me know. Oh, there you go. And a little prezzy as well. Yeah, and they've got to bring out a new cooling range. She said it would be good for Dubai. But what a lovely thing comes of that. And also, do you know what? Just to say as well, because when we do our Reco Seccos. Make my heart warm and my fanny flatter. Oh, definitely a little tingle in the old minge. But we do get a lot of people, actually, that when we do our Reco Secco, which we're about to do, that are very kind and say, come back and say thank you for that didn't expect that and it has had you know so many people have been messaging me my friend abby who's been doing our interior design at ginger nest she said the same she didn't even know we'd mentioned it in the pod until she suddenly went oh my god my phone's blown up today you know and it's so and the guys from edwin's with the cocktails they said the same small business they just thank you and it's you're very welcome it's like such a nice thing and that just made me really happy because they deserve the success i really like and the recoseco which we're about to do now is all genuine stuff that we just want to talk about and there's no obligation to talk about.

28:36Anna Williamson:So it's time for It's the record circle It's the record circle It's the record circle Ba-dum-bum Right, shall I go first this week? Okay, so this is in response Oh, screechy. This is in response to I'm obviously filming celebs go dating at the moment and people are very kind about my glam shots my hair and makeup which is nothing to do with me It's all to do with Jo, who does my hair and makeup. However, a lot of people say, oh my gosh, your hair. And I'm like, thank you very much. I do look after my hair. But a lot of people want to know what hair extensions I use. And I'm very transparent. You don't have any.

29:12Anna Williamson:Not today, I don't. But I use Clip-In Weave. And a lot of people have been asking. And I haven't bothered to reply to everybody. So I thought, you know what, I'll do it here. So anyone that is interested in extensions, I don't like, I used to have permanent bonds. You've got bonds, haven't you? I don't anymore. no particular reason I just haven't but I do really love my clip-in weave so I'm going my recoseca this week is if you want to try really good quality clip-in hair extensions which look natural they are matched to your hair colour they're fantastic it's G G double E G extra hair extensions again not an ad not a spon we pay for all of my hair she'd rather not though so if you are listening I mean wouldn't mind G Stenny's well actually I think we've got enough now but they do the most beautiful range of hair.

29:58Anna Williamson:So G hair extensions for everyone that keeps saying, how do you get your big, lovely ponytails? How do you get your half up? You know, your Jennifer Lopez hair. All clipping. Oh, hello. She's comparing herself to J-Line on this one. There it is. Not me. Others. So that's my recce seco of the week. G hair extensions. Clipping, clipping, clipping, weave. Okay. I've got one actually. Come on. I did talk about this on my Instagram and I feel like I've been late to the party because I then got a lot of messages from people being like I've been using this for years. Oh, go on. But I kept getting like this advert on Facebook advertising this shower oil from this brand.

30:37We discussed shower oil the other week, didn't we? Yeah. Have we done this one?

30:41Anna Williamson:No, you've not recommended it but we were discussing how we should bring it back. We were. Because I use my sanctuary one. Yeah, so anyway, I think that maybe we should look around it because I kept seeing this advert and for whatever reason I thought I'm not buying that one because I just want to get it on Amazon because Amazon's easy, right? Anyway, so I bought the Locotan. Oh, Locotane. Oh, I love Locotane. Wow. I haven't got it here in England. And look how scaly my skin looks. No, it's the shower oil. The almond-y one. Oh, my God. I've used it. It's amazing. And you put it on in the shower.

31:16I've used it. And then it goes, like, white. And then you wash it off. Yes. Yes. It's amazing. and what's good is you can get a refill for it so i bought the bigger size on on amazon and then when it's done you can get a refill i mean it's lasting quite a while and then i bought the body oil for after so you do the body oil in the shower and you wash it off and then afterwards i've been putting the body oil up my skin i mean not now because i'm back in england and it's like gone scaly actually i'm going to order some tonight so i've got some here as well but it's like next level. It's so nice and it smells so good

31:50Anna Williamson:and it's like being in a spa and I love it. I got that as a little tester one ages ago and it is really good and thank you for reminding me for the Reco because I'm also going to buy that tonight. And also just another little Reco seco. Oh double. Double Reco. I bought this sounds ridiculous I'm cold in Dubai I haven't even got the aircon on the house is cold and I tried to get heating and they said the house doesn't have any heating so I don't like putting on cold pyjamas because I'm a princess and I bought a little towel warming thing. And you could fit like two... Like a massage and they stick the little towels in there.

32:25Yeah, but this one's bigger and you can fit two full-size bath towels in there. Obviously, I haven't got a plug in my bathroom though, so I can't warm the towels up. But what I've taken to doing is putting my little PJs in there and then I've got this lovely little bedtime routine of put my PJs in the warmer, have my shower with my body oil, get out, spray on more oil I light a candle and then I put my warm pajamas on and I cannot tell you oh and I put my heated blanket on we need this reel I have filmed this to edit into a reel actually and I do my spray I've got this lovely spray I love a pillow spray and then I've got this I went to an event in Dubai and this dude that's into all this hibby jibby stuff gave me this mouth spray I can't remember what it's called I'll look when I get back no I don't even think it's got CBD it's something it knocks you out herbal shit but my god it's good.

33:17I told him actually I'd discussed it on my Instagram and I'd forgotten. So I've got this lovely little night time routine and I really recommend the pyjama warmy thing. Pyjama warmer. And you know like if you've got kids like the kids love getting out the bath and putting warm PJs on and a warm towel. And it wasn't expensive and it's just elevated my evening bedtime routine and it's made me joyful. Do you know what? Nice little warm sockies would be nice as well. Oh it's lovely. You can fit loads in there. Yeah. And then you get it out and you quickly put it on and you're all warm and you smell nice and it's, oh, oh, it's heaven.

33:49Anyway, there you go. Love that. Imogen, Reco Seco.

33:52Anna Williamson:My Reco Seco this week is a book. Oh. It's a book. Highbrow. It is quite highbrow actually, yeah. So there's a lady called Laura Bates. She wrote a book. It's called The New Age of Sexism. Oh. How the AI revolution is reinventing misogyny. Really? Yeah. And it's really interesting. I was actually reading it around the time where all the like grok ai stuff was coming out in the news um i listened to it on audible your favorite thing maybe i shouldn't cancel my subscription because i prefer to ingest non-fiction with my ears because i think it's more digestible that way um and super smart this one i just think um it's just very it's quite heavy because it talks a lot about how ai is influencing sexism and talks about like sex dolls and talks about like these apps that are stripping people and it talks about this that and the other and it's quite heavy at times and quite depressing at times so like fuck me this is the state of the world but it's quite important and um very interesting so i would recommend it what's it called again it's called the new age of sexism how the ai revolution is reinventing i've got a similar one so i think i've just might have sharted i think we're okay um my my friend um and a recommended one a bit similar to that I can't remember the name it's not that one but similar but it's around kind of like misogyny and stuff but I haven't read it yet but that sounds really good too thank you very much maybe I'll keep my Audible subscription keep your thousand pound Audible I've got so many credits I've got about 17 million credits why don't you take some of mine all you have to say to Andrew is you should just log in to my account cancel yours I'm paying for mine anyway just use that you've already justified it and cried to Andrew say Andrew I'm intelligent Thank you.

Message update from Anonymous. So, Blue. Blue messaged in for advice back in October. Oh, I remember this.

36:21Anna Williamson:Oh, yes. Thank you. We do love an update. We love an update. We don't get updates enough. We might even get prizes for people that give us updates, just to incentivise you guys. So, she messaged us in advice about inviting her dad to her wedding. Her parents had split up and had a toxic and abusive relationship and her mum was upset with the idea of him being there. So that's where we were. This is the update. Hi, thank you so much for sharing my story on the pod. I wanted to send you an update. Following your advice, I really sat with the idea of confronting my dad and asking whether he would be okay attending just the evening.

36:55Anna Williamson:The reality is that the situation between him and my mum has never really been spoken about openly between me and him. I believe he knows we're aware, but I don't think he understands in what context since me and my mum are very open with each other. He's someone who tends to deny and isn't very self-reflective so I honestly feel that trying to open up that conversation would have gone nowhere and potentially caused me more stress. Over time, my mum actually turned around and told me that I should invite him to the wedding because it's my day and she doesn't want me to carry any guilt into it.

37:25Anna Williamson:I really struggle with confrontation and in the end, I let things go ahead. He's currently invited to the wedding. I've seated him as far away as possible so that he's hopefully out of my mum's direct eyeline. And I'm doing what I can to manage the situation practically, even if emotionally it's still very difficult. Excuse me. I won't lie. I still feel incredibly anxious about it all. But at this point, I feel like I need to let it play out and hope for the best rather than keep reopening the wound. I think that's a sensible idea. Something that's helped me reframe this comes from a question a counsellor once asked me.

37:54Anna Williamson:She said, how would you feel if you saw a shark in the water? I told her I'd panic because it's a shark and it's going to eat me. she then said that well that fear makes complete sense there's nothing to say the shark won't just swim past and leave you alone that's what i'm holding on to now that's what i'm holding on to now the idea that just because something has the potential to hurt it doesn't mean it inevitably will it's true i don't know which shark it is luke might be just could be a hammerhead shark yeah i'm choosing to focus it on that and i wanted to share it in case it helps someone else who's living in the space between fear and hope sorry for the late response life with my daughter has been full on and I've only just had the chance to sit down and catch up.

38:30Anna Williamson:Don't worry my doll. Thank you again for giving me the space to share this. I'll give you an update after the wedding in March. So that's coming up soon. Good luck for your wedding lovely. And I think you're really sensible in that mindset actually because you've thought about it and you've made the right decision for you in the moment and we wish you all the best with the wedding. We've got another message from an answer. We've called you Ethel. She says, hey Luanamo, long time listener but it's my first time writing in. And I want to ask you about something I imagine many listeners can relate to being a step-mom.

38:57I want to talk a bit about my story so it might be a long one as the tale goes buckle up peeps and I hope you've got a coffee in hand. I'm going to try and cut a long story short I met my ex-partner when I was 18 and we were together for the next 10 years. We have a beautiful daughter who is now seven but when she was nearly four and after months of therapy I finally found the strength to end the relationship. You know how it goes we got together young grew into different people etc. I then went through quite possibly the most empowering two years of my life, ended a completely unfulfilling relationship, settled into co-parenting and sharing our time with our daughter, bought my own flat and two years of dating, you know it girls, I was independent, free and up until that point I had only ever known a relationship with the wrong man.

39:39So of course I needed to see what was out there and enjoy the ride, literally. It was honestly the most freeing, empowering and confidence boosting time I could ever have imagined. It It was just me and my girl. We holidayed together. She helped me decorate our brand new flat. We had the time of our lives healing and growing together. Oh, that was like me and my little Dixie. That's so lovely.

39:59Anna Williamson:Best years. I taught my daughter that it's okay to end a relationship if it doesn't make you happy. It's okay to do hard things. We went through hell and back together. She saw every part of the journey. And we've both come out the other side's strong little women. Around 15 months ago, I went on a casual date on a Saturday night. after dating someone else on the Friday and a different date planned for on the Sunday. And I instantly met the man I knew was meant to be in my life forever. It was quite literally love at first sight. I felt head over heels and we have been inseparable ever since. Don't worry, I cancelled that Sunday day.

40:32Let's call my new man Mark. Now Mark has two children and they are age eight and ten. My daughter is seven. We dated for a few months before we even considered meeting and introducing the children and everything took off like an absolute dream. As of about six months ago, we now live together. I'm selling the home I work so hard to give to my daughter, which I always struggle with, but I absolutely know it's the end of that chapter and ready for a new daughter open. And like always, we're closing that chapter together. We're all adjusting to now being a family of five. It can be beautiful at times, and I'm very boundaried with making sure me and my daughter still do things just us, so we will always have that bond.

41:09However, being a stepmom, despite how much I love his children, is fucking hard. We are navigating very, very different parenting styles. And I feel like I'm constantly biting my tongue. And I struggle to know what I should and shouldn't get involved with. Mark's 10-year-old son, let's call him James, can be the most loving and caring young man. But he can also be the most disrespectful little shite. And I find it very, very hard not being able to parent him the same way I do my daughter. James is used to getting what he wants and getting his own way. He never does anything he has ever asked and literally explodes in anger if anything is ever asked of him that he doesn't want to do.

41:46God forbid I ask him to put his bowl in the sink or tidy a toy, for example. I'm told that's not my job. It's the same if we're in a restaurant or in public, for example, and it's embarrassing for everyone. Mark is scared of upsetting James, so he will pander to him and give him what he wants for quieter life. James's entire diet consists of plain pasta or chicken nuggets, quite literally nothing else. That's the only two things he will eat and God forbid he's offered anything else. he will explode he's given his tablet all the time and there are never any repercussions for his behavior and disrespect i recently caught james teaching my seven-year-old daughter what tea bagging means for example this is absolutely not the life i wanted to create for her after two years of complete connection it's causing problems with me and mark i'm trying to stay in my own lane and focus on supporting mark with his children but also not like not getting too involved and prioritizing my bond with my daughter i'm sticking with that not my circus not my monkeys analogy and only getting involved when it involves my daughter.

42:42Mark's not the best communicator, and that's something that we're trying to be intentional about too. But he will, of course, always defend his son, and to an extent, I'm starting to resent that. I've told Mark that I don't want James and my daughter left unsupervised because I don't like his behaviour or his language or what he could be teaching her. Mark is very unhappy with this and feels like my daughter will learn all this stuff eventually in the playground anyway. I could go on and on, but I won't for the sake of your sanity. I suppose the reason I'm writing in is to ask for some advice really and start the conversation about step parenting How the heck do people manage it?

43:16How do you stick to your own boundaries? I think I'm struggling because I know Mark is the man I will spend forever with But at the same time that means I need to let go of the life I built with just me and my baby I struggle not to resent Mark or James for that and I'm desperate to stay in my own lane, but it's so hard I'd love to hear your thoughts. Sorry, this is a long one. I tried to make it as short as possible please keep me in on thanks ladies you've helped me through every part in the last few years and

43:39Anna Williamson:I'm so grateful to have you on tap my um my thoughts are on this is you can't stay in your own lane no you can't you're blending two families you've got to work as one family now and I get that she's your daughter and those are his children but what I'm hearing is two different camps here and you're trying to blend without actually actively blending blended families are I think one in three families now are blended families. So it's incredibly common. And I hear this a lot around step parenting. Lou obviously has experience of step families herself as well. My advice on this one is it's really hard to separate being adults and then also what's going on for the kids.

44:24Anna Williamson:The kids are constantly changing, evolving. They're growing up. There's hormones been thrown in there. It's hard for kids as well when they're going between two houses. Yeah, exactly. He's got one house and a bedroom there and one parenting style there. And then he comes to your house and there's another house and different people and a different parenting style there. And imagine being 10 and if that was my nine-year-old, that would really unsettle her versus my eight-year-old where she'd be a bit more go with the flow. And it's all child-dependent. It is child-dependent. I don't know if he is, but just from a few things I was going to say, is he a bit neuro-spicy?

45:01Anna Williamson:he may or may not be but he definitely to Lou and I and you know Lou and I are quite tuned into that I wouldn't be surprised if he is and if a child is is neurodivergent regardless of children struggle with change anyway kids thrive under routine and stability and safely and as Lou said they are going through a period of change so I wouldn't and the fact that he only eats certain things and his also his acting out behaviour sounds a bit to me like the fight or flight some children withdraw some kids face it head-on and they're quite aggressive I wouldn't count that out and I would perhaps seek some advice from the school as well and involve the other parent if you can what you need to do is work as a family I would have the children and you together children in age-appropriate language children are far more capable of responsibility and thinking for themselves if you give them the information and I think the children need to see that this is a united front that you are all in the same house together everyone has a voice everybody is listened to for them to vent or share what they're feeling about any of the change that's happening are they happy is there anything they want more of or less of is that time with certain parents or not you know and let them know that they are loved and you are here to all adjust together but also it's super important that you create boundaries you set boundaries and you enforce them as a family unit and that is that everybody is responsible for that no one is more important or less regardless of their biologically yours or his i think a family sounds a bit knobby but a family meeting to create a sort of you know house rules almost in what is acceptable and what's not acceptable and the things like the ipad tech time that should be for all the children i believe my kids regardless of whether they're but actually mine or not.

46:49Anna Williamson:I don't know how you would feel, Lou, or how Andrew would feel with Dixie and your girls, as in Clemmie and Indy, but I would assume it's the same rules. You know, if you have the same tech rules, the same rules around everything and food and eating at tables or whatever it may be, it is done as a united front. That's what I think you need to be encouraged to do. Stop thinking that you're two individuals blend. You're now one family. Yeah, definitely. And the kids aren't coping with it. Well, he and the boys are not coping with it. What I'll say as well, and this isn't because you're a blended family, like every body parents differently like Andrew and I sometimes have super opposing views on how to do things and we are compromising with each other all the time we're married and share and share kids you know so don't just put this down to oh it's a stepmom and a stepchild thing like it's a parent you're now parenting with another person and that person Mark has a very different parenting style to you and if you were to have a child together you'd still have quite different parenting styles as well.

47:46So actually, you and him need to become more aligned on your parenting style together and really have to stop thinking about it as your child and his child. And with regards to not leaving yours unsupervised, you know, essentially, she now has a 10 year old brother, and he is three years older than her. And let me tell you, older brothers, especially, are going to teach their younger siblings and their younger sisters, rude, naughty things.

48:12Anna Williamson:I have an older brother who did exactly that. I am very close to my best friend and her kids. And our kids call each other cousins. And she's got a 13-year-old and I've got an 8-year-old. And they're teaching each other the alphabet and swear words and all sorts is going on. And that is a little bit of a rite of passage when you're a child. And I know that you want to keep your children innocent. And I do too. But at the same time, she's got an older brother now. I had an older brother you had an older brother I got older and younger and you know that is the sort of thing you do siblings do with your siblings which is new to her because it's just been you and your girl exactly so I actually think that a lot of what you're talking about and a lot of your gripes are you adjusting to being a single parent with one innocent little girl to then introducing a dad a brother you don't talk about the other sibling which makes me think that that one's probably alright But again, that one's only eight.

49:12Anna Williamson:But don't underestimate what this little boy is going through. For me, this little boy is not dealing with this transition very well for whatever reason. And I think instead of repelling it, work with it. You need to embrace him a bit more. You've got to embrace him and take that special time with him to figure out what's going on. I'm not saying don't have one-on-one time with your daughter at all. I've always had one-on-one time with Dixie, as I have with all of my children. And I would encourage you to have one-on-one time with this little boy too, to try and build your relationship up with him.

49:43As Andrew, for instance, has always taken Dixie out on her own. They have little traditions that they do together. That's lovely. They both love shopping. Andrew was home recently and I wasn't. And he took Dixie shopping and he took her out in London for dinner to a really cool restaurant. In a way, he does more things sometimes with Dixie than I do. And, you know, I think it's really important as a step parent to harbour that relationship and grow that relationship. Because at the minute you're just kind of hating on this kid a bit.

50:13Anna Williamson:And what would you say, and I'm curious to know, maybe this could help. So what do you think Andrew gets from that one on one time with Dixie? A bond and a relationship. Yeah. Whereas I would imagine then if her behaviour, because he's invested in her, I imagine if her behaviour was bad or because, you know, he could articulate that. We've had challenges with Dixie pushing back. But would she respect Andrew because of that, because he takes the interest in her? Would she listen to Andrew's discipline? Yeah, she would. And, you know, I think you're the bigger person and you're the adult. You get out what you put in.

50:45And you do get out what you put in. But just by constantly putting him down, you know, you can set your boundaries. This is your house together now. And, you know, come to a conclusion, I don't think that technology is good for kids, especially a child that sounds like he sounds. Yeah, I would look into that. And I do think, you know, you can't placate them with a tablet. Like you've got to take away that tech. I'm not saying all the time, but put limits on that and invest time. Do family board game nights. Or, you know, my kids love cooking. We do this cooking thing in our house where each kid, one kid cooks a starter, the other one the main and the other one the dessert.

51:20And we do like, you've got to cook for the adults. And it's all stuff like that, which encourages a family unit.

51:26Anna Williamson:And Bonnie, like an idea, again, you've got a boy. I've got a boy. exactly the same age Enzo's nine but you know they do get obsessed with the tech but you're right Lou and look we're all human sometimes we do just go go on the iPad for a bit yeah just go on it and it's easier but we but it's about that intervention like Enzo loves stuff like rock up like rock climbing and there's flip out rock up there's all these places so actually I would encourage you to put the effort in and say just go do you know what today after school how do you fancy this rock climbing thing like I'll be honest my Enzo would go with anyone that was happy to take him but in that moment you've got the car journey you have the chat and that's when I think you can start weaving in because you're right some of his behaviour probably isn't okay but again that's what we have to teach them but kids only listen when they feel safe and when they feel and I think this kid's acting out because he doesn't feel safe and also it's quite obvious to children especially listen if he is a bit neurodivis he will be so hypersensitive to the environment that he's in and he will pick up on the fact that you're not very keen on him and he's going to pick up on the little princess that's your child or bloody halo kid can't do any wrong and then he comes in like a wrecking ball.

52:30And he'll continue to be. And he will. And the thing is, he's going to feel that resentment from you. And it's hard to put that to one side. But I really do encourage you to do, you know, let your other half take your daughter out and do something with her while you take the son out and then go and meet up in Nando's and have like a family dinner together. It's the only way that you will improve this situation if you want to stay with this person long term. You have to put aside your feelings and try and bring yourself in as a liked member of the family for that child. Because let me tell you, that child is not going to like you as much as you don't like him.

53:05And it will be worse for him because he's a child and he can't even process the emotion. So it is on you. Throw the ball is definitely in your court here.

53:15Anna Williamson:And it's hard because you don't have to like him and it can be hard to like him. But you might grow to love and like him if you try and understand him a bit more. But that's what I think. Always come out from the perspective of that child. what is this child potentially feeling we need to put grown-up feelings to one side in these situations good luck we really hope you take our advice on board and you've got this you can make this work we believe in you yeah you can make it work um right message from jemma and sarah um alreet your lovely trio okay gotta be a jordy um i thought you would enjoy this story about my friend sarah as she's had a pretty shitty time and i love her loads and i do think this will make her laugh.

53:51Anna Williamson:Buckle in, here it goes. So, back in Sarah's randy days, her and her partner were sharing a romantic trip away and her partner decided it was time to get frisky. However, it was Sarah's time to surf the crimson wave if you catch my drift. However, her partner exclaimed, that doesn't bother me, it's natural. Oh, nice. Very understanding. Or very horny. Oh, no, read on. Oh, my giddy aunt. He then proceeded to pull out her tampon with his teeth and insert it into a wine glass. May I note they had been drinking, aww, they've been drinking mead wine. What's mead wine? It's like honey wine. It's like a medieval mead.

54:30Anna Williamson:It's like a murky rosé. Oh. As it's meant to get you horny as hell. Well, obviously it worked. There we are. I wish this is where the story ends. However, her partner then decided it was a sexy idea to pour himself a glass of mead. Oh, no, no, no. So, glass of me into the said glass, pulled out the tampon, which had expanded and quadrupled its size, drenched in mead and proceeded to suck it dry. Damn. That is a big turn off. My own vagina has never shriveled faster. I think, let's be honest, girls, we're all the Sahara right now. Please confirm to Sarah that this isn't normal. It's actually now become an urban legend where we live.

55:14Anna Williamson:Love you guys, Gemma and Sarah. Why, hey, man! well Imogen would you like to comment on this the only I can't believe I'm going to say this the only thing that would make this slightly better is that maybe with the tampon being in the glass with all the mead it would maybe dilute the blood situation still grim there's no explanation I think it's even grimmer I think it's even grimmer I want to know if they had sex afterwards I want to know if they snogged Oh gosh Vile Well on that note Remember if you want To get in touch Email us Luana At everything Luana.com You can also drop us A WhatsApp We've got a new number It's 075 215 64640 Wow We're still getting there We nailed it one week We did And we've never Quite remembered it since No Who says Halloween Only lasts one day With Wayfair One night of Halloween Becomes a whole season At home From larger than life backyard decor and moody lighting to festive accents for every room in the house.

Now we all know what's got everyone talking this week. and undeniably it will be Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew. He's been arrested. He was arrested last week and obviously you're all going to be expecting us to talk about it. Well, we didn't talk about it because we recorded this episode before that news dropped but we didn't want to leave you guys empty-handed and so tomorrow you should keep a little eye on the Luanna feed because a little extra episode is going to be dropping going over all things Andrew now do you remember last week we had a chat and we were talking about Trump and then we went on to reform and politics I always get proper squeaky bum when we start talking about politics because it's well just because we know it divides so many it is important though but anyway this is put the nail in the coffin I think for reform a little bit reform's by election candidate has suggested that people People who don't have children should pay more tax.

58:13Anna Williamson:Oh, my God. So this must be a complete U-turn on the old Rachel Reeves budget, whatever happened with giving more benefits to people that are having more children. So what's he said then? So this Reform UK candidate as forthcoming by-election in Gorton and Denton, never heard of those places, suggested that people who don't have children should be taxed extra as punishment. This has come about in an unearthed blog post. someone's gone digging someone's gone digging but he's published it and wrote it in a proposal that's prompted comparisons to dystopian novel The Handmaid's Tale which we both love which is set in a society that forces women to bear children in an effort to tackle a fertility crisis so this guy Matt Goodwin has suggested imposing a negative child benefit tax on those who don't have offspring so while such tax would financially impact both men and women it's not just women it would disproportionately affect women putting pressure on them to become pregnant and protect both themselves and their partners from the levy so handmaid's tale because obviously a guy needs a woman to have a baby well a woman needs a guy to have a baby so but I suppose a woman could then just go and get sperm yeah and there could be like a man could pressure a woman to have a baby so he's basically suggested that the government remove personal income tax for women who have two or more children.

59:38So this is on a Substack block back in 2023. He's a former university academic and honorary president of the Students for Reform organisation. He argued back in 2023 that the British family is imploding and it's having a very real and very negative effects on the country around us. So he sort of listed all these proposals designed to reinforce family values in Britain and he suggested creating a pro-family culture by having a national day to celebrate families and parenthood, which we have Mother's Day and Father's Day, so I'm not sure that's anything groundbreaking. Symbolising this new culture through things like families receiving a telegram from the king when they have a third child.

1:00:18Bit much.

1:00:20Anna Williamson:I don't think that would particularly entice me to have a child. No offence, Your Majesty, but all of that pushing, shoving, I'm all right. He wants to entrench important family in the curriculum, which I don't think is such a bad suggestion. I'm really pro-family. I think that's great. And actually living in Dubai, I have to say, there's a big difference there to here with family values. It's a lot, lot nicer there. I am a massive pro-family and I do think, I do not agree with this, I'd like to point out, but I do think that we need to stop being so against family. Do you know what I mean? As well, because I get, this is my personal opinion, but my family is my foundation.

1:01:03Anna Williamson:I get so much pleasure out of the family unit. I have to say, since moving, I get so much more pleasure of being a family unit. I just find that in Dubai, the pace of life is a bit slow. It really is family stuff and you do all this great. It's a really lovely environment to raise children there. Genuinely, do you think... And I take a lot more joy now from my family there than I did in the UK. But do you think, because it is more geared up for that and there are other countries, you know, European countries as well that do also really promote family time, you know, no school on Fridays. Yeah, that's what we have.

1:01:36Anna Williamson:You know, school finishes at 11 o 'clock on a Friday. Isn't it Amsterdam or something? I might be making this up. Sorry if it's fake news, but there's a certain country, I'm sure in the Netherlands, that fathers are encouraged every fortnight to take the Friday off or something to spend time with their children. But I think, but I wonder as well, Lou, is it because there's a much more, it's much more celebrated. You say the system is more set up to promote that, whereas possibly here in the UK it's not you know we are because cost of living is so high and so I think we're often and I speak for myself here we're often sort of in conflict let's be perfectly honest with ourselves you know we're trying to justify well I need to work you know so you know the kids will be fine you know and they are but I think maybe the mindset is quite um spiky here in the UK around having families sports day like in England you wouldn't see that many dads and literally like at school drop off, sports days like all the dads are there.

1:02:33Everyone. Everyone's there but it is because in England everyone's slogging their guts out because the cost of living is so high. The wage, it's a whole thing that I can't solve but anyway. So he says switching child benefit to incentivise families to have more children and introducing a negative child benefit for tax for those who don't have offspring. So I have no issue with any of that until he got to introducing a negative child benefit tax. I'm here for promoting family values. I'm here for promoting and incentivising people to have families. But let's punish the people that don't want kids.

1:03:03And you know what? If you don't want kids, don't have kids. You should not be penalised for that.

1:03:07Anna Williamson:Isn't that, that's like the biggest right in life to choose whether you do or don't want to have a child. Choice of, whatever choice, you know. He says, sacrifice more land for cheaper family homes. I agree with. And he says, and in my view, prioritising British families when building new housing developments, which I also agree with. We should be housing more British families, people that are born here and that have the right to be here over other people that perhaps have entered the country and then are trying to claim all sorts of benefits. I do think that British families should be prioritised.

1:03:38It says Labour's deputy leader Lucy Powell told the Independent that attacks on people without children would be punitive for women, which I agree with. Matthew Goodwin's big idea is so ludicrous you'd be forgiven for thinking that it's something out of the handmaid's tail. It It would punish millions of women and strip them of their basic dignity to choose. And reform spokesmen said this is Labour being disingenuous once again. This is an idea that was first suggested by the respected demographer Paul Moreland as part of a range of measures that should be debated and discussed across developed nations if we are serious about dealing with our looming demographic crisis.

1:04:12The Labour government has got its head in the sand when it comes to thinking about the long-term challenges facing Britain. we need a grown up mature debate about how we can encourage people to have more children and support British families so instead of encouraging I am but yeah I just feel like it's not encouraging because they're punishing I remember when I had Dixie I got like given a thousand pounds for having a baby I don't think you get that anymore but that's encouragement of having children you can't punish people for not having children to the point where you're then forcing them into doing something they don't want to do because they'll be better off yeah and That doesn't make any sense.

1:04:48Anna Williamson:Well, the challenge with that, that is actually, I think, the complete antithesis of having happy, healthy, fulfilled families when you've got people that are giving birth who should not be parents because they don't want kids, they don't want to look after their kids. Parenting is bloody, I wanted my kids more than life. I still do. Christ, do I find it hard. Yes. You know, I think that is the reality of it as well. But as you say, by doing this, surely you're then promoting really sketchy families. And also people that can't have children, that have got fertility issues, that desperately want a child that can't afford IVF.

1:05:23Can't do it. What they should be doing is putting more, if they want people to have more children, don't put limitations on IVF for people. We should do more to encourage that. Like, you know, IVF is a lottery. For those who want to have children. Same-sex couples, let's help them more. with different things so that they're not having to pay so much for egg donation and sperm donation and surrogates for gay men. Improve lifestyle, improve the finances,

1:05:55Anna Williamson:because a lot of people just cannot afford to have children. So that, again, goes into their choices. As you say, this is a ridiculous notion, punishing people. It's such a backward way of thinking. I am all for supporting having families if that is a choice you want to make. If you want kids, if you don't want kids, fuck me. But I do think, as you say, but if it is a genuine problem, which we know, we are declining birth rates, and if there is a school of thought saying we need to encourage or support people to have more children, then work at those foundations. Make it easier. It's childcare, it's maternity.

1:06:29These are the reasons why people aren't having children. And then it's because they're worried about their jobs. They're worried about how they're going to cope. How are they going to afford to work? and have children in nursery, when nursery, you've got two kids in nursery, that's the average salary, more than the average salary every month. So it's no good just charging people for it. You've got to look at why people aren't having them,

1:06:53Anna Williamson:and then fix that. Yeah. Before, well. What do you think? As a same-sex couple, your access to having children is a lot harder than our access. But also, and currently, you and Bex do not have children. No. Let's say you don't. I mean, if you choose to and want to, and that does. but let's say you can't have kids or you know or it doesn't work out for you guys and then suddenly someone slaps you with a tax for that yeah i mean how does that feel completely unfair yeah yeah i i personally think it's fucking ludicrous as you say i think make it make the systems easier for parents yes and people will be more inclined to be a parent exactly people aren't becoming parents because the systems in place the work system the school system all of these things don't work for don't work for parents anyone at all no and it makes parenting really hard and really miserable for a lot of people whereas it doesn't have to yeah and you say you see in other countries you mentioned there dubai you know i know people that live out in areas in europe and say you know i've got friends that live in france as well different systems promote a much happier family environment where people are really thriving and enjoying having their children and they want more children because they're enjoying the lifestyle because the systems are better set up to support not punish so instead of trying to promote family values by forcing people to have kids for financial gain maybe just make it better to be a parent maybe enforce those family values by benefiting the family in other ways because everyone wins the kids win the parents win the government wins everybody wins the economy wins i just i just feel like sometimes they find a problem and then they just want to like not put a blame on someone but like make it someone's issue yeah and be and they'll be like okay so this is going to be the people who can't have kids or yeah who don't have kids let's make it let's go after them yeah and it's not like there's so many other things that you could be doing to alleviate this issue easier for the majority but you're just making i feel like in so many different political issues it's just finding someone to scapegoat to blame and then in the newspapers it's all these women aren't having kids and we also haven't thrown into even into this conversation there was a lot of concerns and a lot of issues at the moment with the maternity sector you know so if people are thinking well no i can't you know if i'm even stressed and worried about having a baby because of you know the state of the maternity care at the moment postnatal you know that's another thing that you know so as you say get the systems in place and then that might be a different story what we should say as well when we talk about just to be fair to reform is that this was from 2023 and it's not anything that reform is putting forward it was a debate policy yes it's one opinion from one person and i think yeah let's not slap them with the same you know we should highlight that is just one person from a blog in 2023 which came out of this idea of someone else and obviously they have jumped on that a bit because they know that they're a bit of a loss at the minute and reform is storming ahead that's a very It's not a party policy.

1:09:59No, no. But it's also like... It's scary that people within the party are willing to... Even think about that. Well, not even think to write and publish it as well. And it's not a flippant tweet. It's a thought about blog, yeah. It's a let's debate this to see if there's any grounding in it.

1:10:16Anna Williamson:Let us know what you think, guys. Everything Luana... No, what is it? Luana at everythingluana.com. If you have a particularly strong opinion on this that might shed even more interest. Right. Brilliant, Luanna's story next. We love this time. I saw this bad boy creep up on my news feed and I was like, here we go. And what we said actually was, again. We did, we actually did go again. When you sent it to me, I was like, Anna, this is so old, this story. We did this two years ago. No, it's again. It's happened again, Imogen. This is new. I am nothing if not relevant. A man has turned up at, oh, that was a lie, has turned up at hospital with a World War I bomb shoved up his arse.

1:10:56Brilliant.

1:10:56Anna Williamson:The bomb squad were reportedly called to a hospital in France after doctors found a live artillery shell from World War I lodged up a man's backside. I mean, impressive. I wonder. Impressive, Lou. And this guy, I thought it might be an old todger. He was 24. 24, babes. The military-grade projectile, it dates back to 1918. It's 16 centimetres in length. What a whopper. What a whopper. Four centimetres in diameter, and it was jammed up his rectum. After stunned surgeons at the Ranguel Hospital in Toulouse in France found the object wedged up there, they realised it hadn't been detonated, prompting a mass evacuation.

1:11:35Anna Williamson:Not of his arse, of the hospital. I mean, imagine if you're like literally sick and dying and you've then got to evacuate. Get in the wheelchair! Everyone's wheeling out. Because someone's got an artillery shell wedged up their arse. I mean, just the whole... People could have died because of him. But also, imagine being the doctor in A &E and realising that you had an undetonated bomb in front of you. I mean, the question is, what happened to the man? Well, bomb disposal experts rushed to the medical facility shortly after the 24-year-old patient arrived in a state of extreme discomfort, apparently.

1:12:07Anna Williamson:This is only happening in weeks ago. He clearly didn't have a flared bottom in a nice base. According to local media, the unidentified man, I mean, you're not going to admit to that, are you guys? told Docky's doctors he was experiencing pain but didn't offer any further details. I'm in pain on my arse. He ended up being whisked into a surgical suite where medics could carry out further investigations, which is when the World War I relic was found. Amid concerns that the shell could still explode, local media reported that firefighters in a bomb disposal unit rushed to the hospital to defuse it.

1:12:39Anna Williamson:Oh my God. Now, I want to know, did they have to defuse this up his arse? Or did they take it out and defuse it? Is it like, right, you know, whatever it is, let's call him Francois. Francois, spread them. Right? And like, are they going in with like pliers and shit? Are they going in? Are they going in? Like those robot bomb disposals? Whilst he's got full arse crack on show. Was he just like, yeah, wedged open and then a little bomb disposal robots there? So many questions, Lou. So many questions. So staff and patients were evacuated whilst a security perimeter was set up until it was declared safe.

1:13:11Anna Williamson:As well as showing himself up at the hospital, there's also been speculation that this chap, who had the shell stuck inside him could now possibly face legal consequences for his stunt. The news outlet Achtou Toulouse reported that police are set to launch an investigation to the young man who's said to remain in hospital for violation of weapons legislation. Oh my god, so this French code states that acquisition, possession, transport or illegal carrying of explosive products or explosive devices is punishable. It's not been confirmed how it ended up in his arse. I think we can guess. Yeah, we can guess that.

1:13:50Basically, the newspaper did report that this hospital are quite accustomed to treating victims injured during sexual games.

1:13:57Anna Williamson:They're quite kinky in old Toulouse. Well, and this is what Emo was referring to, because yes, we have covered this before in 2022. Another hospital, and yet again in France. And this was an old Toddy. He was 88. That's it. Also shoved a bomb up his bum too. Yeah, and actually there was in 2025 a study in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine estimated that nearly 39 ,000 hospital visits each year in the US are related to rectal foreign bodies. These are the most common things, okay, that most patients are middle-aged and male, right, over half the cases involving sex toys. However, they did release a list of the strangest objects that have found up people's arses.

1:14:42So in number one, we have screws and nails. Wow, that does not sound comfortable.

1:14:47Anna Williamson:Thin though, so not particularly sharp. It's a bit kind of like scratchy. A dog chew toy. Beard clippers wrapped up in a plastic bag cited as being used as a constipation relief. A baton. Oh, wow. One for you, Emma. A turkey baster. A shampoo bottle, listed more than once apparently. Lots of people sticking a tresemé bottle up their bum. This is very small and I don't think would provide much pleasure. A dental pick. Maybe they had a poo that wasn't coming out and they wanted to jab it out. Yeah. And then it went and it sucked up like a suppository does. That's what I reckon. A wine stopper. I'm going to let the dental pick person off, actually, because I reckon that's wine.

1:15:29Anna Williamson:A corn on the cob holder. Maybe they were trying to... Yeah, similar. A highlighter also, maybe. A magic wand toy. Oh, abracadabra. Marbles. Marbles. Maybe they thought they were love beads. Oh my God, there's loads on here. A doorknob. Let's pick out a few favourites. Uncooked pasta. A pair of glasses. Oh, barrel, I've lost me bins. An egg. An egg. Hopefully boiled. And a travel toothbrush. Who says Halloween only lasts one day? With Wayfair, one night of Halloween becomes a whole season at home. From larger-than-life yard decor and moody lighting to festive accents for every room in the house, Wayfair has what you need to make Halloween feel like magic all in one place.

1:16:17Anna Williamson:Because the best Halloween memories aren't made in just one night. They're made all season long. Shop Halloween decor now at Wayfair.com. Wayfair, every style, every home. Well, from one weird list to the next, It's now time for It's the Widow of the Week. And on, so Mandy Buella says, hi, Loana and team. New Lufanian here. Welcome one and welcome all. I started listening to your podcast a few months ago. Thank you, baby. And it makes my dreary drive to work a lot more enjoyable. Hello, by the way, if you're driving to work right now, because we know a lot of people love it on your little commute there and back.

1:16:55Anna Williamson:I hope you've had a good one. I think I could be weirdo of the week. I'm a dentist. Some might say that that's enough to qualify me for that, but I have more. I didn't realise this until it was pointed out. I really enjoy extracting teeth. I find the more challenging and difficult cases even more exciting. However, I didn't realise something until after my nurse pointed it out to me. Sometimes when an effective tooth is extracted, it has a globule of pus attached to it. I didn't realise. I'd quite like this. After I'd extracted teeth, I'd start squishing the pus globule with my fingers as the tooth lay bloody in the palm of my hand while I gave the patient the aftercare instructions.

1:17:34Anna Williamson:She's just there, like, and so you need to do this. Like a little stressful. Imagine if she pops it or stink. Apparently I've been doing it for months. I know this might sound odd, but the texture is oddly satisfying. I recommend it to everyone. Keep me in on. Wow. Let's see if the next one's weirder. You're a nonce who've called you Flick Manip. Flick Manip. I need to nominate my cousin, my auntie and my stepdad for word of the week. In fact, I can't decide if it's weird or just disgusting. We're enjoying my daughter's second birthday discussing weird things. And it turns out my cousin eats raw bacon for my auntie to then say it's not weird.

1:18:11As I'm putting bacon in the pan, I won't put the last one in. I just roll it up and eat it. Then my stepdad says, yeah, I used to eat sausages raw.

1:18:21Anna Williamson:Is that not like bad? I know someone, a chef, I used to work at a pub, and she used to eat raw sausages in front of me. It was disgusting. On another note, I need to know if I'm weirder of the week too, is every time this comes up in conversation, it seems I am every time I eat something spicy or sour, like mam's sours or tangy HP sauce, my nipples tingle to the point they go visibly hard. Does this happen to anyone else or just me? Also, everyone else thinks I'm weird because I don't like chocolate. But that whole food thing within your family is weird. Everything about that is weird. You have a thing for gustatory as a family, eating, tastes.

1:19:02Anna Williamson:I mean, what was the first one? I'm going for that weird one, not the tooth extraction. I mean, it's repulsive, but I can see this. I can see the satisfaction in a bit of puff. We all love squeezing a spot. We all love a pick. No, it's 100 % the weird family eating habits. I'd say hard nipples for a mowen. and now it is the end of Feb it is so that means that we need to crown our weirdo of Feb so then and this weirdo goes into the mix for our final year so we need to declare it's time for it's the weirdo of the month what have we got so first off we had Norman with shrapnel bum don't know what that meant something about poo shrapnel bum go on do you remember that no no I might do Number two, we had Frankly Gross, who was a shit smeller.

1:19:50Anna Williamson:Oh. Oh, yes. Then we had Cece Lou Freebush with the dishwasher toilet seat. And now we have Flickmanip with the Food Family Weirdnesses. I mean, personally, the raw food for me, like that raw meat, is really weird. I'm going for the shit sniffer. What are you going for? Shit sniffer? I think to wipe your bum and then smell the bog roll is... Weird. I think it's the raw meat. Yeah, it is. Is it? It's more, it's weirder. I think it's the raw meat. I mean, I'm going to be honest, rolling up a piece of bacon, eating like a bit of wafer ham is not nice. Okay, I would say shit sniffer, but I'm not mad at that one.

1:20:34Anna Williamson:So let's go with it. The weirdo of the month is... Flickmanet. Flickmanet. The raw meat eater. The raw meat eater family. The whole family are doing it too. congratulations guys well done congratulations right it is that time of the week where Lou Ziss gets a little bit ranty if she fancies it do you have one this week I have just got mine a rant which really fucks me off what biohacking influences talk to me it's basically I know I'm going to get a bit of stick for this say what it's basically mums that don't work that are bored and that have now decided that they're bio-fucking hackers and this also just eats into or breathes into something which really annoys me which is about people self-proclaiming that they're experts on instagram and poor innocent vulnerable people believing the shit everyone's an expert on tiktok and instagram everyone is a fucking expert and it's wrong because they've read a meme they've like read a meme or they've fucking eaten a bit of sunflower or they've just received a bar and then they think there's some biohacking like this fucking biohacking bullshit has me done in okay i'm all for self-care and looking after yourself and being that and being healthy eating well moving your body exercising we all know that stuff is good for us but please fuck off with your mouth tape your fucking manuka honey putting that on open wounds like you've got third degree burns and manuka honey is going to fucking fix it no it's not get yourself to a fucking hospital stop taping your kids and your mouths up at night.

1:22:06It's fucking bullshit. And then these fucking LED head things that people are now putting on their actual sculpts. It's just, it's just driving me nuts. Then I saw an influencer the other day, jumping the whole families, jumping up and down like they're fucking kangaroos, the lymphatic drainage hacking. Okay, it is enough of this bullshit. Okay, I'm sick of it. I'm sick of people doing some crap and they're fucking living in Bali or living in Timbuktu with all this fucking homeschooling their kids and it's just a load of bullshit okay so I'm all for drinking you know I like my feel good my soul greens and stuff oh don't get me started on water fucking demineralising it remineralising it oxidising it fucking cleaning all the chlorine out of the shit because apparently the people of the world are trying to poison us it's too much okay

1:22:59Anna Williamson:but the thing is that happens and then you know you go and then I don't know smoke a fag or or go and inhale a load of petrol fumes. Or there are all these fucking toffs that go and stick a load of cocaine up their nose every weekend. So listen, the biohacking has got to stop. And the self-proclamation of being an expert, it has to stop. You look into these people that are lecturing you on stuff, they're unqualified, they're uneducated, they've got no fucking clue, and they've read a few things on the internet, which has also probably been published from some other fucker. that's got no clue about anything.

1:23:34It's fine to have an opinion, but your opinion is not gospel, okay? And so I would rather take advice from people that have spent years crafting that craft, researching that they've got peers that have influenced, you know, I'm not into Sally in her kitchen crushing a bit of garlic with some fucking red onion and putting in her socks to solve her kids' cold. And then go back to a job as a hairdresser. Yeah. you know it's enough now of this bullshit okay like it's enough we need to stop okay and we need to change your algorithms

1:24:09Anna Williamson:as well so that stops showing up if I see one more Manuka honey on a wound it's fucking curing the world yeah no no babes Savlon that's what cures the world antiseptic yes and E45 so that is it good rad Lou love it that is it guys that is Luanna the podcast for this week we do hope you've enjoyed it and we're going to be back of course every Monday but don't wait till then.
