In short
The hosts, Laura Smith and Carmen Butcher, riff on viral internet moments and their own “side-eye” lives: being fooled by AI/falsehoods online, a controversial Tina Turner statue, and parenting choices around kids’ content and haircuts; they also discuss influencer culture, gym “wankers,” and a child starting karate.
Guests (hosts)
Laura Smith and Carmen Butcher are the podcast’s regular hosts; they share personal anecdotes about parenting, social media/influencing, and everyday life.
Key claims
Viral posts can be staged or misleading (“what’s real vs fake”); the Tina Turner statue unveiled in Brownsville, Tennessee is widely mocked as a “hate crime” due to its face/hair proportions; parents should “draw the line” on indulging kids and on content that could be harmful.
Notable examples
A Brazil newborn allegedly holding an IUD “trophy”; Pamela Anderson’s new ginger “Irish mammy” look; Cobra Kai-style haircut leading to karate; gym loudness/sauna behavior; the Tina Turner statue’s “mushroom” hair and “Lionel Richie” face.

So enjoy that. But don't worry. We will, of course, be back with you every single Monday and Thursday, as usual, from next week.
1:46Laura Smyth:Have you seen this? Look on my lashes. Yeah, they're wicked. Hello. Can I have some? Because you're an influencer now.
1:52Carmen Butcher:I'm an influencer. I forgot to bring them. What? So you literally just click on.
1:54Laura Smyth:Carmen, when I tell you, you literally go, I did it this morning and I did this boot in 10 minutes. Can I have some? Yeah, I'll bring some. I'll bring some. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. We're influencing that.
2:08Laura Smyth:Welcome to Shouldn't Laugh But with me, Laura Smith. And me, Carmen Butcher. This is the podcast where we side-eye wild stories and our own and make you feel better about your life choices. this is shit enough but
2:25Carmen Butcher:how's it going?
2:27Laura Smyth:oh it's alright tell me
2:28Carmen Butcher:tell me what's been happening in the world of Laura Smith
2:32Laura Smyth:well it's all go really I've got lashes
2:35Carmen Butcher:they look wicked I've got lashes you've got lashes tell me about the magic of being an influencer now I did this you tap things like you go and that's about it really were you like fluttering your eyelashes Yeah. But I genuinely thought I couldn't do it.
2:51Laura Smyth:And I woke up still with makeup on something that I thought. So I'm the last person you want to influence. But it influenced people. It influenced me. I look at you now and I'm like. What is going on with your lashes?
3:00Carmen Butcher:So these are extensions, but they've fallen out. So this is like half. I'm trying to get rid of them, have a bit of a break and not do the whole gluing them on. So this is like half fake, half real. And how long do extensions last? About four weeks. That's pretty good though. But I'd much rather be able to clip those bad boys on.
3:19Laura Smyth:Just clip them on. I get it from my mum. God love a trier. If someone's running their small business and they reach out to me, I mean, I don't want to get inundated, but I do. I just back women doing stuff. That's my vibe. Do you know what she did? This is really cute. The woman who sent me them, she went, oh, Laura, thank you. She went, I've got 25 more followers. Oh, I love that.
3:40Carmen Butcher:Oh, I love that.
3:41Laura Smyth:I thought, good vibes. But my mum used to be like that. Like if someone's selling Avon or someone was selling stuff from a catalogue at work, all of a sudden we'd have like a singing toilet roll holder. You're like, oh, well, you know, my mum's always...
3:53Carmen Butcher:Got to back that small business. Yeah, she'll back anyone. What would you not back? Like if someone sent you something to influence, what would be your like, oh, I'm not going to influence that?
4:02Laura Smyth:Nothing. Really? Oh, calms. Cost of living crisis. I will have every bit of freebie. Fair.
4:08Carmen Butcher:I don't know. What do you mean? Like what a not back? Like what if someone sent you a weapon? Can you influence this?
4:15Laura Smyth:Would you be there like? At the gun range. You're like, no, I'd still do that. Well, I think I saw a fairly famous comedian just at a gun range. And I was like, fit.
4:25Carmen Butcher:It influenced you. You were like, I need to get a gun. Chase me. I'm such a melt. I'm influenced by everything. Literally everything. I'm like, ooh. You know, there's colour changing lipsticks. I'm that person that if I see something on Instagram, I believe that that's what happens and then you get that colour changing lipstick and your lips are still blue all the time
4:46Laura Smyth:you put it on blue, peel it off yeah,
4:50Carmen Butcher:mine would just stick on blue and I'd have to scrub it off it'd be there, I'd be in meetings with my blue lips like sorry sexy smurf
4:58Laura Smyth:got influenced, didn't work TikTok's just a big sales place now isn't it
5:03Carmen Butcher:well if you do like clip on lashes when are they going to think of like clip on hair hair extensions clip on wigs
5:14Laura Smyth:okay right calms they exist what clip oh yeah they do yeah but you know I didn't have to break it to you but you know what do I think of next wigs getting really what do I think of like hot coffee in cups I need a bit of that in my life yeah So long hair. What's the opposite of hair extensions? Haircuts.
5:42Carmen Butcher:Oh, yep, yep, yep. So my little boy, he's had long hair for a while.
5:46Laura Smyth:Glorious hair. Glorious, big ginger mop. Amazing hair. I like it. It's fine. It's fine. But we were playing Frisbee the other day, and it was like playing with the thing from Adam's family. He was like... And I kind of feel like it's his little arm. Well, I don't feel like that. He's kind of like, I can hide behind it. Like, things are too much, you know? So I'm like, okay, you're an emo, great. but playing frisbee with him there was only so many times you could just donk it where he's not even seen it coming right and I just sort of snapped him up we're going to get your hair cut I said I'll still keep it so it covers your eyes you've still got the safety blanket oh he hated it he hated me he was like it was a conspiracy I didn't respect his feelings obviously we have the consent conversations from day dot with him as in you know he ain't consented to me talking about him on the podcast I called him to be like my body my rules I was like look just wipe your ass just do what you're told brush your teeth my bad hair my rules that's all they say just brush your teeth right so I feel like I'm doing some good job somewhere but anyway he started karate oh okay so the haircut was alright it served you well but we're done now
6:53Carmen Butcher:the only thing is if you gave him a haircut he wouldn't have the opportunity to wear that hairband that the karate kid does that's pretty cool well the haircut he's had because
7:01Laura Smyth:you say that because he's got his haircut I said look I'll still let it cover your eyes if you need that little bit of shield between you and the world. Let's face it, we all do. I always wear sunglasses. That's why I've got long hair. But he has started karate. Yep. The way he has taken karate seriously, he ain't got the best focus nod. He started, he's got his karate chi, I think it's called, like his whites. He follows this class for an hour and the sensei is taking no prisoners. If you're not doing your plank properly, kick your legs. It's proper. there's all ages there there's like much older men and teenagers and he's like the littlest right oh he follows it for an hour it's like all his dreams have come true he's like yes sensei yes sensei and then he's so excited that he's got a sensei right that he's like oh I don't know mum would it be disrespectful to ask my sensei's name I said I'm not sure Alf he goes up to his sensei he goes sensei excuse me wouldn't be disrespectful to ask your real name would it and he goes no it wouldn't he goes alright but he still didn't have the bottle to ask him because he's like ok so he loves him he loves him that is so cute but I forgot to say so where I've cut his hair so he's still got do you remember the OG karate kid and the baddie we used to call him he had like a pancake head he had like pancake hair over him so he kind of looks like the baddie he's like Cobra Kai I basically made my son a baddie Cobra Kai energy you made him a baddie after the haircut after the haircut He's got a little bit of a sweep now.
8:32Carmen Butcher:I've never seen Karate Kid. I know, I know, I know. My brother disowns me for that fact.
8:40Laura Smyth:What the hell?
8:40Carmen Butcher:What have you been doing with your life? I just haven't, I haven't. So was he upset that you made him into the baddie?
8:47Laura Smyth:No, because he's not seen an OG Karate Kid. Right, right. But he was just upset that I cut his hair. Yeah, I mean, I do. I feel bad, I do feel bad. I get it. But he needed to be done. And now he loves it. I did it the same day he had his school photos done. Right. So now, I just wish I did it before his school photos, but now because he's got used to his hair, he's looking at this goddamn hippie picture where he's like, who's this guy? So he's used to it now. He likes it now. Sometimes you've got to pull rank as a parent.
9:11Carmen Butcher:You can indulge kids too much. Well, this is the thing. So I kind of get how he's feeling because when I was 12, year seven, so my mum, she's proper trendy, right? She gets Vogue. She is like, when she gets me Christmas presents, you know like my mates are like your mum got you that and I'm like yeah like she she's a trendy gal
9:32Laura Smyth:trendy lady she's finger on the pulse finger on the pulse anything happening you're getting
9:36Carmen Butcher:well this is the thing the only thing is I couldn't control that as a as a 12 year old so I had a lovely long hair and she marched me in to the hairdressers got me a pixie cut did not see my face I had a big nose before this one like the OG nose so when she gave me a pixie cut I was just a nose and then my boyfriend at the time dumped me after that so I mean we were 12 at the time so 12 year olds are shallow but still to this day I'm like oh do you remember that time I got my hair cut was that first boyfriend as well it was like a I mean I don't even remember yeah yeah you're my boyfriend but you're 12 I've never seen pictures of you with the og nose I took him out it was bad I took him out it was it was a thing but yeah like she basically accentuated my nose for fashion but it did not suit me um so this is the thing I'm sure Alfred's hair's really nice but I just look like a yeah I don't know yeah but it is that thing of like I think right so I'm trying
10:39Laura Smyth:to picture a little Carmen you're littler than you because you're little now but you're a little Yep. You were nose. What was it? No, but nose. We were just talking, my face was a nose.
Read the full transcript
10:47Carmen Butcher:And then you were just like, you know, that's what I used to do. I had like the big fringe, long hair. Hide. I did an Alfred's like, I'm trying to hide. You know, my nose would be peeking out. Yeah. Pixie cut. It's there for everyone to see. There was nowhere to hide. And that's it. I looked even more like Beaker from the Muppets than I do now. So I'd be like Gonzo.
11:07Laura Smyth:Oh, mate. I mean, we love, but this is it. These sorts of things affect you. I remember going in school because my mum would cut my hair short as well. And I remember going to school just like with a hoodie on and not wanting to just...
11:17Carmen Butcher:Yeah, because you just wanted to be one of the girly girls, you know? Yeah, you wanted to be a girly girl. Girly girl, when I was that age. So, yeah, I can feel what Alfred's feeling. But you're... I think you are mindful of that. I am mindful.
11:30Laura Smyth:You are mindful. But where do you draw the line? When kids are indulged too much, kids are like dickheads.
11:35Carmen Butcher:Yeah.
11:36Laura Smyth:Like, there's a line, isn't there? You've got to let dickheads be dickheads. You've kind of got a poor rank. I am an adult. You're an idiot.
11:48Laura Smyth:Hey, man, you hungry? Let's order delivery. Yeah. I was thinking... Italian. Burgers? Oh. Game night just got tense. Two bros on different sides of the fence. Burgers or pasta tonight. Why can't we have food without the fire?
12:08Carmen Butcher:With Wonder, you can combine 20 restaurants in one delivery, so no one has to settle. Use code MEALTIME for 50 % off your first Wonder order. Terms apply. 12:43Carmen Butcher:Wayfair, every style, every home.
12:53Laura Smyth:Even me talking about my kids on podcast, right? I'm like, am I going to get sued one day, right? Kids have accessories at the minute, okay? Like, kids for content. Kids for content, yeah. Where do you draw the line there? Where do you draw... Because kids are naturally funny. Can I pet that dog? Can I pet that dog? And now there's no limit. So a big thing that's gone viral recently, and it's in Brazil, is a baby, newborn, was born with the IUD in its hand. Right. Like the coil, right? Like a little trophy, like a little... So this ball of mood, this baby is born, holding on to the contraception that tried to stop his life.
13:33Laura Smyth:I feel like a MAGA person now. That is Jesus in the womb. No one can defeat our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and no weapon formed against him can prosper. This baby was a bull like, oh, looking for this, mum. Mate. Thought you'd fuck me, would you?
13:51Carmen Butcher:Well, hello, here I am, bitch. He defied everything. That is the world's first LinkedIn post, isn't it? It's like, as a sperm, I was determined. thrilled to be here after nine months of battling with contraception. That is the OG LinkedIn post.
14:12Laura Smyth:Can you draw on some experience where you've overcome adversity? Maybe the first picture ever taken me. Maybe that's how I started. Yeah, that's how I'm going to go on. First LinkedIn post. It's absolutely epic. And even the baby looks really gnarly.
14:30Carmen Butcher:It's wild, isn't it? He was born in Brazil, wasn't he? born in Brazil yeah define all odds but
14:36Laura Smyth:so much excitement we shared it on whatsapp's group we were like lols lols mega lols fake fake news Carmen Butcher fake news fake news what is real and what is fake nowadays okay what is real the baby also what's real is the IUD
14:56Laura Smyth:what's real is the IUD what's real is the baby but and this really annoyed me it's not that it's AI and now we have to question everything whether it's AI is that the doctor or the mum put it in its hand like lol because apparently they couldn't remove the IUD while she's pregnant obviously because it's like a 1 % chance 0.5 % chance whatever for getting pregnant with an IUD right so this baby is still linked in like I don't want to fuck with its LinkedIn profile obviously but they remove that then the baby's born and then it's like haha posing I feel so cheated when things are set up like that.
15:33Laura Smyth:Kids are funny anyway. Yeah. Like, you know, sometimes you see a scam picture where it's got his little middle finger up and you're like, or like twins holding their hand. She's like, cute shit happens anyway. You don't have to stage cute shit with babies. Yeah. A kid falling off something. Brilliant. It just happened. Yeah. Pushing a kid off something. Less funny. Yes. Yeah. Animals chasing kids. Funny. Setting your dog on a kid. Still funny. Okay, yeah. still funny yeah no i know what you mean opening opening the paddock so all the sheep can chase
16:10Carmen Butcher:the baby okay still funny safari putting your baby out yeah then backing away while you see a lion not quite funny but what is the point i mean we all love a bit of content oh not that much not
16:26Laura Smyth:That much? I don't know. But, like, there's so many things where they're, like, getting kids to do stuff. Or, like, slapping the cheese on a baby's head. Oh, I like that, though. Yeah, I like that. Okay.
16:36Carmen Butcher:It's such a confusing world that we live in. That is, like, that is jumping into the comments, though. Because that video where they're just throwing bits of plastic cheese on baby's heads. I was like, that's quite funny. Because, obviously, they're crying. And then that's how to stop a baby crying. because they're obviously shocked that their mum would throw a bit of plastic cheese on their heads, right? But the comments, oh, I'm here for the comments. Always here for the comments.
17:04Laura Smyth:But there's ones where, like, that can't hurt. A bit of plastic cheese can't hurt. Oh, no, it's a bit cold. And I think it's just a bit of cold. And they go, oh, what's that? Yeah, like, what? Yeah, it gets them out of their sleep. We're fine. I think there's something fine in that. But then there's ones where they crack the egg on the kid's head. And it's like, oh, no.
17:20Carmen Butcher:What, like, actual cracks the shell on his head? oh I don't like that and then I just think
17:24Laura Smyth:some people shouldn't have kids or when they scare them with Halloween masks we're getting into spooky season yeah no babies being terrified can you imagine the cortisol on that
17:33Carmen Butcher:no no no no I mean is that why you have babies yeah just put the IUD in its hand LinkedIn that's just for its LinkedIn just so you can one up the other parents well my baby's already got LinkedIn and it's got 25 ,000 likes
17:46Laura Smyth:my kids are having to apply to be on the school council at the minute and I just think imagine if we did just have that IUD photo. They wouldn't have to write a statement or do a speech. Just have that as the flyer. Yeah, this is why you've got to think. You've got to think from day dot. But the truth is, how are you giving birth and staging a photo like that? Did the doctors do it? Yeah.
18:11Carmen Butcher:Where was their head at? If I've just delivered a baby, well, maybe they're a bit bored. We don't know what's real, what's fake anymore. there's a picture of a pilot piloting a plane with like a selfie stick I thought that was real but then I thought about it and I was like you wouldn't drive a car and do that would you like mid drive have you done that? no I can't drive
18:37Laura Smyth:oh haircuts yep I want to quickly talk about something someone's had a haircut Pamela Anderson yes remember we said ages and ages and ages ago about the Pamela Anderson Liam Neeson relationship and we said we're going to be on Pamela Anderson watch for any major changes that indicate she's not quite being herself she's turned into an 80s Irish mammy she looks like one of the golden girls she's had ginger feather crop she looks nice don't get me don't get wrong she looks amazing but it's such she's a redhead you called it I called it I'm feeling like she's turning her into an Irish mammy has she she's always been blonde hasn't she yes she's always
19:18Carmen Butcher:Pretty famous for that. That's what she's known for. Now she's... Shouldn't say the obvious, but... Isn't Pamela Anderson... Isn't she a known blonde? Yes, Carmen. Might as well have just said that about Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn... Fun fact. Marilyn Monroe, blonde. I think it's changed her look quite drastically. Yes, I agree.
19:45Carmen Butcher:I agree, Carmen. I've stated the obvious again oh my god I'll either state the obvious or I'm absolutely thick as shit I'll either state the obvious or say I don't know the difference between a squirrel and a chipmunk so you called it I called it we did this and you it was you because I was sort of team Pammy and Liam well you'd seen the film yeah I'd seen the film you however were like something's going to come out of this now she looks like a parent's friend she does who gets drunk and at dinner party
20:15Laura Smyth:she looks like every picture of my mum down the caravan in the 80s.
20:20Carmen Butcher:That's it. She's like... She just looks like a normal person now, right? There's nothing wrong with looking like a normal person.
20:30Laura Smyth:No, but we... I don't know. It's just the boy the dress has changed like Chantel and Preston. Like Chantel and Preston. They fell in love. She was a blonde. Then it's all brown hair. When I messaged you about this this week, I said, look at Pammy, right? I said, it's Chantel and Preston. She went, oh, don't, Laura. you put me down a rabbit hole for Chantel and Preston I went what'd you find out she's got brown hair
20:52Carmen Butcher:that was it she's got brown hair now what a shit rabbit hole yeah well it was I was disappointed Preston got married again apparently yeah yeah don't know who too wasn't Chantel what happened to him anyway anyway probably just an ordinary girl but you called it babe that's my pun
21:09Laura Smyth:ordinary girl he was in the ordinary boys oh yeah
21:12Carmen Butcher:I'm just on Pammy watch
21:13Laura Smyth:that's all I'm saying
21:14Carmen Butcher:I'm on Pammy watch what what do you think she'll do next because she's kind of like it's the opposite you know like when your mate has a breakup and they like go rogue and they go wild she's doing the opposite she's going very conservative it's like who
21:27Laura Smyth:who was the other one when Julia Roberts was with that guy and then she grew her armpit hair oh yeah that was a bad dark era yeah yeah Benjamin Bratt she was with him and it's just that sort of changed behaviour when you're when you start doing something out of character you're like yeah
21:43Carmen Butcher:yeah she's gone she's going more conservative. More just dumb. She's done the opposite of Kanye and, oh, what's his name? Bianca Sensori. Yeah, they're like opposite. She's just going out with nothing on. She was just juggler, juggler, juggler, terror. She's just like... It was hypnotic. It was absolutely hypnotic. It was, wasn't it? I mean, fair play to her. Banging body. But I mean, that's the opposite. That is like, you've got Pammy wearing full-on shoulder pad, dress, cutting her hair. Ginger hair. ginger hair and then you got old Bianca just getting her wabs out on the red carpet wabs
22:18Laura Smyth:great word just there like
22:21Carmen Butcher:Kanye's just there like yeah this is what I've done
22:23Laura Smyth:I know she was like a pet it was like a poodle that had been shaved I love his ex Julia Fox though she's iconic yes I did that myself I love her what is she famous for she was an actress she was a muse for Uncut Jams I'm obsessed Julia Fox is the iconic yeah beautiful Absolutely iconic. So I'm glad she got out of the Kanye store.
22:51Laura Smyth:Hey man, you hungry? Let's order delivery. Yeah. I was thinking... Italian. Burgers? Oh. Game night just got tense. Two bros on different sides of the fence. Burgers or pasta tonight. Why can't we have food without the fact?

Let her rest in peace. Can we talk about this statue? Shouldn't laugh, bud. Ultimate shouldn't laugh, bud. Bad statue. Bad barnet. Bad statue. Tina Turner statue. Bang out, fall down. Let's talk about her hair and that. Oh, man.
24:23Laura Smyth:I don't want a fashion fact. But that is a fucking hate crime, mate. Simply the worst. She's going to be rolling, rolling, rolling in her grave. I mean, who the fuck commissioned it? Ike Turner. What the fuck? It's so out of all the calms. It's bad. It's bad. It's really bad.
24:45Carmen Butcher:The body's good. Oh, yeah. The beginning.
24:48Laura Smyth:Oh, yeah.
24:49Carmen Butcher:Just in general. Absolutely. Yeah, a banging body.
24:51Laura Smyth:Legs on her. Legs on her.
24:54Carmen Butcher:It's a 10-foot statue. It's mega. But it's just the face and the hair. It's like he forgot.
25:01Laura Smyth:Something happened. It's like he went full Lionel Richie. Hello.
25:06Carmen Butcher:Is it Tina you're trying to do? Like, what is going on? I think he started it. So maybe he started from the bottom, started doing the face and was like, oh, this looks a bit of shit. Started from the bottom, now we're here. He did it from memory. He did her face from memory. I reckon, yeah, I think he started doing it and looked a bit shit and he was like, oh, I've got to carry on. You know when you start doing something and you know you've fucked it? There's no turning back now.
25:30Laura Smyth:Yeah, you know when you do stuff last minute, like prepare for a podcast or something like that, and you're like, oh, yeah. but that's you know like a sculpture you can't sort of do you can't unveil a sculpture and go yeah like there's no that's done mate
25:48Carmen Butcher:that is done ta-da I think maybe because it is it's a massive statue 10 foot maybe he just couldn't be arsed like dragging the ladder back and forth maybe he just got there and thought I'll just do it on tiptoes I'm doing it underneath just get some scaffolding up there it's so bad it's her hair it's like he was like right this is going to be the thing about it it's going to be like big hair her hair was iconic it just looks like a beefy hat slash mushroom
26:18Laura Smyth:yeah because it doesn't have any lightness in it I know sculpture but you know what I mean it doesn't have any movement in it it's just like a mane it's a bit feathery
26:24Carmen Butcher:it's just rounded yeah can you can you capture her hair on a statue yeah of course come on look at them
26:32Laura Smyth:come on don't get me started on the renaissance the renaissance statues they they have things which make it look like you know like the moon hair yeah or even like i saw one that's like it looks like it's got lace on it you know and sheer material you can do it this is someone like we've all done it where we've got oh yeah oh yeah i can do it i could do that and then it wildly underqualified and he said he wanted it to look like a lion like as though but you can make it look powerful without it actually looking like it belongs on fucking Trafalgar Square it's like those before people actually did travel and they're like yeah I'll do a lion and it was a dog medieval dog it's a dog it's a dog with a big barnet it's bang out of order
27:18Carmen Butcher:but the medieval sculptures like let's be real in back in those days you didn't have anything else to do so you didn't have your phone to distract you maybe
27:26Laura Smyth:it's out of order
27:26Carmen Butcher:it also her reaction looks like her reaction when David Bowie said his cock was still raw from the night before. Have you seen that? No, what's that? What is that? Who said his cock was still raw from the night before? Tina Turner and David Bowie had like an affair apparently. By the way, I'd like to simulate. I don't know if this is true. They're both dead if you say what we like. They're both dead, but I don't know if this is true. You shouldn't laugh at the dead butt. And there's a video of them duetting together and David Bowie leans over to her and like people have lip-synced it and it looks like he's saying, my cock's still raw.
28:01Carmen Butcher:From the night before. Yeah, my coxial saw or something like that. So maybe he captures that moment when she was like...
28:14Laura Smyth:That struck me, yeah. Do you know what? Tina Turner's so beautiful, though. And she just got more and more beautiful when she got older. She was so beautiful. And it's like... It's a piss take. It is a piss take. Because also she was one of these people in the 80s that was proper parody. Like Bobby Davro would do it. You know where it's like, because her look was so distinctive, it's like a little bit like, what's his name? Oh, Mick Jagger. Mick Jagger, Rolling Stones. Funny. Funny. Not funny. Okay. So it's like she was a bit parodied anyway. It's like they've done the parody of her. It's like they've done Bobby Davro or someone doing Tina Turner.
28:49Laura Smyth:It's like, no, she was so beautiful. Have you watched the Tina documentary? No.
28:53Carmen Butcher:Is it good?
28:53Laura Smyth:Come on, watch it. Yeah, I will. Oh, my God. like we took it for granted that she was just selling out arenas as an absolute rock star that woman was in her 50s you know she was in her 50s already had a big career came from nothing she was doing like dive bars in vegas she wasn't doing like sell out vegas stuff she was doing small bars and casinos in vegas like 500 sort of gigs do you know what i mean like she had fell from grace she built up from nothing after leaving Ike and her ambition and who she grafted oh listen she is so savvy and that sense of like building herself up through her Buddhist worship listen and to do all of that and then that's what she gets commemorated with just someone that Bo Selector does Tina Turner bang out of order mate and you know it's one of them ones when it comes don't you like I'm going to the comment section and everyone went in.
29:56Laura Smyth:Everyone's furious. Someone said she looked like Ronald McDonald. The bus from Heart Attack. I look like the bus from Heart Attack at the minute. You do not. No, listen. You do not. Look at the curls. You do not. I look like the bus from Heart Attack. I said it in a gig the other day. I genuinely did and everyone laughed. But you know when it's like, we were thinking that. I look like,
30:14Carmen Butcher:look at it. No, no. That face, beautiful.
30:21Carmen Butcher:it's a ronaldo statue have you seen the melania i can't say her name melania trump is that how you say her name trump's wife yeah it's like
30:31Laura Smyth:stifler's mum that's who she looks like she's stifler's mum she's jennifer coolidge in american pie someone said sorry melania trump she's always looking like she's trying to read the chip shop menu that's so true so true
30:48Carmen Butcher:she's a side eye in it what about her her statue is just a lump of wood she's got a statue she's got a statue why's she got a statue oh it's they put it up from where where she's from I want to say Switzerland but we there's been a lot of Switzerland chat so I don't know if that's true I can't remember where she's from but there's has there been a lot of Switzerland chat yeah oh not on the pod
31:12Laura Smyth:remember Carmen there's our friendship I think we just recorded 24-7. You know? Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Couple of things. Tina Turner lives in Switzerland. Yeah. Because the statue's in... It's in Brownsville, Tennessee. Small town. I mean, Brownsville sounds like... You know, like when you took a trip to Trumpton. It's like, oh, I took a trip to Trumpton and ended up in Brownsville. That just sounds like a euphemism for following through.
31:38Carmen Butcher:Brownsville sounds like my weekend. Yeah.
31:40Laura Smyth:Oh, hang on. Pass me the imodium. I've accidentally stopped coming. I'm in Brownsville. took a trip to trumpton got lost on a roundabout ended up in brownsville
31:55Carmen Butcher:so the statue's in brownsville that's what the residents of brownfield did with those
32:00Laura Smyth:when it was the unveiling they were like we're all in brownsville now my guts are gurgling just at the mention of brownsville i've had a black coffee brownsville tennessee i had lamb yesterday so I might end up in Brownsville.
32:22Laura Smyth:So, Switzerland, we haven't mentioned Switzerland, but the worst thing is she can't, I mean, maybe it's good. She's a Buddhist, so maybe she's just in Zen Nirvana now.
32:31Carmen Butcher:Maybe she's just like, I'm grateful I've got a statue.
32:33Laura Smyth:No, but she can't go take that down. She can't commission it. Because if someone posts a bad picture of you, you're like, please untag me, just stop it, just don't do that. Like, just stop it, don't touch me. but like if someone did a statue of you she can't say anything because she's dead but also if someone's actually made a statue at what point do you go you can't say take it down that's months and months and months of work
32:58Carmen Butcher:destroy it melt off my face and start again yeah yeah I mean that is like next level don't untag me at least you can untag a photo she can't untag a statue she's in the great afterlife anyway so she's alright no surely her kids would they have not made notes on that. Surely they would have been like, I've got some notes. I know. And like the first draft. Yeah, but you don't even look
33:20Laura Smyth:posing next to it. I don't know who this guy is.
33:24Carmen Butcher:Who's this guy? It was a small town. Like maybe they didn't have, although he wasn't even from the town. This sculptor was not from the town. He was like, he was a renowned sculptor from Atlanta that they picked. Can't be easy to get sculpting
33:36Laura Smyth:right, can you?
33:37Carmen Butcher:No, I mean, I wouldn't want to do it.
33:39Laura Smyth:I wouldn't want to do it. No,
33:40Carmen Butcher:no, I wouldn't want to be a sculptor because for that very reason. It's like when people get tattoos are their kids and they're so shit. So jank, isn't they? You know, you're like... Just for many, like, you've got to have a good... I think this applies. You've got to have a good tattoo artist. Yes. They should invent that. They should invent good sculptures.
33:59Laura Smyth:Freddie Mercury one's good. Where's the Freddie Mercury one? Oh, you love Freddie. Oh, in Switzerland. In Switzerland? Remember we talked about Switzerland before?
34:07Carmen Butcher:Why is Freddie Mercury in Switzerland? Because he had a place there that he loved. He loved the area where they put the statue up. His is good. You know, you've got all the shit. Yeah. Iconic. I'd like to go and see it, but I'm not that much of a fan to make a pilgrimage. Oh, which one? You're a mega fan. You're him indoors, can tell Freddie by his haircut. The era of Freddie by his haircut, can't he? He gets literally down to the month.
34:30Laura Smyth:But he's such a nerd. He is such a nerd about loads of things. Neil Young, Queen, Freddie's haircuts, Apollo landings, airplanes. An airplane flies over. Are you a nerd about airplanes?
34:44Carmen Butcher:Yes. Oh, my God. Does he have a plane finder where he looks up the thing, where he looks up the journey and stuff? Okay, it's deeper than that.
34:50Laura Smyth:What's he doing? If, because where we live near a field, if there's a flyer bar or whatever, he can hear an airplane and he can identify the airplane by the sound. So he runs out. But you know this thing about... We were once... It's a terrible joke. He's such a nice guy. He's so, like, facts, facts, facts. So he's obsessed with planes. We were grounded at Innsbruck Airport after skiing yeah things quite difficult sometimes but we were skiing and then we were looking at all these little private planes and i was like oh look baby like we're like oh they were like why are those planes so little my kids were like that and i said oh they're private jets they're private jets and ali goes prop i said what he goes prop i said what do you mean he goes they're prop they're not jet planes they're propeller planes they're prop planes they're propeller planes but obviously i'm from an aggie family so i was like felt mugged off so i was like all right well look at your hairline you prick do you know what I mean like alright nerd nerds yeah no but he loves a plane me and Ali are the same person yeah that's Freddie Mercury in planes I'm married married originally my best friend I was like so Freddie good Freddie good Tina Turner bad
35:53Carmen Butcher:Ronaldo bad Melania Trump bad comically bad that's why you gotta see it she was just giving her
35:58Laura Smyth:Top Cat hat Top Cat

37:13Carmen Butcher:I've been going to the gym. We've got a new gym. Go on! I know, I know, I know. Is it a posh one? Are you gone posh? I've gone posh. We've gone to a posh gym, but my take on it is there are so many gym wankers, including me, but the gym wankers there are something else. The thing that gets me are the loud gym people. The loud gym people. My in the doors said he saw this big hench guy doing his weights or whatever, like big heavy weights. And then this guy like dropped the weights and he just went, ouch! Is he a cotton? Who says that out loud? And then looked around for like validation. It's like, yeah, we get it.
37:57Carmen Butcher:He lifted.
37:58Laura Smyth:Ouch! Am I right? Things are difficult. That reminds me of my nephew. When he cried and basically didn't get attention, he goes, I'm crying. He's like a toddler that drops something and no one notices. Ouch. What are you not getting here, people? Looking around the gym. Ouch. I'm working harder than you. get him to the chopper he literally who says ouch like really loudly
38:41Carmen Butcher:ouch
38:44Laura Smyth:ouch my him indoors slammed the boot too heavily the other day and I was standing near it and I went ouch he just looks at me like what I was like no
38:53Carmen Butcher:something couldn't happen I don't know what's worse the posh gym there's a sauna as well stuff goes down in that sauna but not good stuff there was one guy he was in there, it's a hot sauna there's a glass door that's the point of the sauna it's a hot sauna I mean I'm sweating already this is going to be good one guy is in there he's doing the sign of the cross and kissing his Christ the Redeemer necklace I'm like babe, so he's there doing all this well like protecting himself I don't know. I was like, you're not going to die. Is that ouch, guy? No, this is someone separate. Ouch.
39:37Laura Smyth:Too heavy. But maybe, have you ever gone in the sauna with your jewellery on and it gets hot? Have you done that? Yeah, your water bottle. You're like.
39:48Carmen Butcher:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe he was like. Yeah. Maybe it was like burning his chest. He was like, why did I wear it? Don't touch me. Why did I wear this? And then another guy. so we're all sat there and you're just facing out glass door that's the only place you can look other guy gets out of the sauna starts doing press ups in front so we're all just sat there looking at this guy outside of the sauna doing press ups okay
40:12Laura Smyth:I'm getting I've got a different angle on this this feels homoerotic now he's hot he's in a sauna right ouch guy starts doing press ups he's getting aroused in a sauna this is what sauna's it for we were watching him like no so he's like I'm married kissing the cross I can't he was just trying to stop his semi
40:34Carmen Butcher:you might be right maybe you've got a point in there
40:37Laura Smyth:I don't want to cast aspersions but I stayed in Brighton for a gig and I thought I'll get somewhere nice with a spa and I quickly realised I was in the basement it weren't a place for the girlies I was third wheel in there. I mean, I was in there like, I was like, beaker. I was like, I was like, sorry.
41:05Carmen Butcher:I read the whole situation wrong.
41:07Laura Smyth:They were like, you know, they were like, acting innocent until I left. And then, yeah, just like, things got, I read it all wrong. Whoa. Sexy.
41:18Carmen Butcher:I've heard, I've heard of the sexy saunas. Yeah,
41:21Laura Smyth:it was a sexy sauna. And I just, I was like, you were like, I've misjudged this. Do you know what? I've got to stay in home. I'm alright. It was not... Just go for a swim. Do some breaststroke. It was absolutely... It was like thick. The water was thick. Anyway, and that's how I got pregnant with my third child.
41:44Carmen Butcher:There's worse ways.
41:45Laura Smyth:There's worse ways.
41:46Carmen Butcher:Oh, the other thing I want to talk about, Jim Bellen's tripod, setting up a tripod.
41:51Laura Smyth:I was going to ask about this. Genuinely, I was going to ask about this. because obviously, I don't know if you know, I've never been in a gym, but all my whole experience of gym
41:58Carmen Butcher:is content creators. I just want to punch them in the head. There's a lot. We have a lot because it is that kind of gym, you know, when you're like, and then they turn up wearing, they just, they look nice, okay? I turn up there, no makeup, hairy armpits. I'm doing weights like that. People looking at my hairy armpits and judging, okay? I'm just jealous. That's all I'm saying. I'm jealous.
42:17Laura Smyth:Sometimes you've got to, you know, game respects game. You've got to respect it, haven't you? Speaking of tripods, back to that gay sauna in Brighton. There was... Did they set up a lot of tripods in there?
42:27Carmen Butcher:No, there was... Ah, ah, the other kind.
42:33Carmen Butcher:My moral of the story is, if I ever come into any room you're in and you've got a tripod set up, I might have to question. Could happen. Could happen. Our friendship. Well, we do self-tape. Actually, no. If it was a crying selfie, that's fine. But I'm an influencer now, aren't I? Oh, yeah. I am actually an influencer. Yeah, but you did it in the privacy of your own home. yeah that's true imagine being in the gym
42:53Laura Smyth:trying to put your lashes on these lashes are so simple you can probably deal with the gym I like that I think we've covered quite a lot I think we've done well I think we've done really well and I think producer are we sensible
43:04Carmen Butcher:at the beginning you were like we're being sensible have we upped it now we had the coffees kicked in coffees kicked in we had a laugh
43:10Laura Smyth:we had a laugh about Brownsville in fact we might have a little break now so we can go to Brownsville someone needs to go to Brownsville Tennessee yeah I thought it was a trip to Jumpton ended up in Brownsville I'll keep drinking the same joke it's a good one
