Key Concepts
What is Outbound Marketing?
- Definition: Outbound marketing involves reaching out to potential customers directly, rather than waiting for them to find you (in contrast to inbound marketing). This typically includes cold emailing and direct outreach.
Target Markets for Outbound
- Neil's Insights: NP Digital has found more success with outbound marketing in countries like Brazil and India, where direct outreach can feel more personal and effective.
- Comparison: Neil humorously compares his recognition in India to that of a movie star to emphasize the effectiveness of his outbound strategies in those regions.
Utilizing AI for Outbound Marketing
- Customization of Insights: AI technologies enable marketers to create tailored insights for each company they reach out to, improving the likelihood of engagement.
- Example: Providing specific SEO issues identified on a potential client's website in the outreach message.
- Tools Mentioned:
- Gamma.ai: A tool for creating customized PDFs to accompany outreach efforts.
- Clay.com: A software for lead prospecting at scale.
Scaling Outbound with AI
- Efficiency in Outreach: The hosts discuss how AI can reduce the time and effort required to gather and present customized insights, allowing sales teams to reach more prospects.
- Example Techniques:
- Using AI to analyze websites and generate recommendations for improvement.
- Combining APIs from various services (like OpenAI and similar web) to enhance data-driven insights.
Future Outlook
- Market Trend: The hosts believe that in the next six months, leveraging AI for outbound marketing will become more common and that there is a current opportunity for marketers to adopt these strategies before they become mainstream.

Outbound is you reaching out and trying to convince people to buy your products and services. No one coming in, not a lead going to your website. More so, you're just randomly hitting up cold people. They may be familiar with your brand. They may not be familiar with your brand. Correct. And Neil, what are you guys doing at MP Digital with outbound right now? Anything? Which countries? Or just generally? Generally. We find that Outbound doesn't work really well in the United States for our space.
0:36Building relationships has worked better for us in the United States, but places like Brazil and India where we use Outbound using my name, we're finding it like fishing with Dynamite. Oh yeah, Outbound using Neil's name in India, it's like Leonardo DiCaprio reaching out to you. Maybe it's like Tom Cruise reaching out to you. I doubt I'm Leonardo DiCaprio in India or anywhere near that. and I'm 99.9 % sure more people in India know who Leonardo DiCaprio is over me. It's okay. When Neil lands in India, what he doesn't tell you is that there are people waiting for him at the airport. It's like a welcoming party.
1:08So until I have a welcome party, I say, we'll just call you Leonardo Di Patel. So anyway, I don't know if I told you this, Neil, but we've had some success with outbound at Single Grain. And I remember like one decent one recently that happened was it was outbound and it was a 17k a month MRR deal. So it's not bad. And so my point of saying all this is that when you have AI at this point, here's the beautiful part. You can actually create customized insights for the companies that you're reaching out to. And so I might reach out to Neil and say, Hey, there's three issues with your website. So I might like, let's say I'm selling SEO.
1:43So three SEO issues on your website, that's the headline. And then I might say, Hey, Neil, I've spotted three things over here. And it's actually fairly, I would say it's like seven or eight out of 10 in terms of the insights it's providing. But now your BDRs or your salespeople, so business development representatives, sales development representatives, they can do this at scale. And plus they can convert it into a nice PDF as well. There's different tools out there. I think one's called gamma.ai. And so, hey, I did this custom PDF for you. And so if I rewind maybe 10, 12 years ago, when I was first starting out, I was reaching out to people.
2:15There was no like screen recording tools that were very simple to like Loom. It took me 20 to 30 minutes to make each video. And I was sending those videos outbound, but I did get a lot of bites. And that was even in my mid twenties, I would get contracts that were 30 K a month just doing it. But it requires you, you got to think about when it comes to outbound, how can you actually stand out? And it's just in the past, it took too much time for people to stand out, but now you can actually do that at scale. And I do believe in the next six months, everyone's going to be doing this from an outbound standpoint.
2:43So you have a window of time right now we're in Q2 2023, where you can really jump on this and rip it for, I'd say, you know, 90 to 180 days. Great example of this is if you're trying to reach outbound to, let's say, Eric Rai, you can plug into some of these AI tools, our social profiles, our websites and say, hey, chat GPT or Bard, you know, or you can go with Bard, analyze the conversions on neilpatel.com and tell us 10 ways to improve it. So then you'll get a list of recommendations, you then start hitting up people and you'll be like, look, Here's some customized recommendations for you. This will allow you to customize your outbound without having to do all the manual work.
3:21And you should see more revenue and conversions from it. Yep. Look, I think there's a lot that you can do with this. One of my friends, he found this software called clay.com. And it's basically, it's lead prospecting or prospecting at scale. And so imagine if you can leverage that and then combine your outbound tool. So let's say you leverage OpenAI API, and then you can combine it with APIs from, let's say, a similar web, which pulls insights from a lot of different websites, right? Or you can pull from Ahrefs. Neil, do you guys sell API access to Ubersuggest or Answer to Public? No. Okay. That's a nice revenue stream there.
3:58But anyway, so you can basically combine it with these other APIs and pull insights like, oh, you're actually getting a lot of bad links coming in. You maybe need to disavow these links. So you can do this at scale now, and the possibilities are endless. You just need to ideally have a sales operations person that's taking a look at this stuff and just testing. And then once it seems like the response rate is good, let's say maybe above 10 % or so, you just start to slowly scale this up. Anything else, Neil? Nope, that's it. All right, that is it for today.
