So did you see that interview with Lex Friedman and Mark Zuckerberg? No. You probably don't even know what I'm talking about. No. Exactly. I think the metaverse is dead. No, you're dead. Okay, so basically it's like doing this interview, right? Okay. And Mark Zuckerberg and Lex Friedman. Lex Friedman's a popular podcaster. He gets like Joe Rogan, all these people, Walter Isaacson, all these people. Anyway, so here's the catch. it's you and I imagine like people are watching this camera right now it's it's your face your body mine but it's done in the metaverse and it looks like you and me right now it's like 98 there and they're having a full-blown podcast interview in the metaverse in the metaverse using facebook technology yes and it looks legit it's not like last year where it's like when when zuckerberg was talking about in a cartoon yeah it's like cartoon and i was like no one wants come on that's like nintendo 64 man it's like that's like when we're kids but this is it's like this so i don't look at it as like the metaverse i look at it as like more like virtual reality yeah but they call it the metaverse they have to they're called meta yeah i know but facebook's calling it and i don't think anyone cares to do a social network in a metaverse as an end user where i see the real value of this is let's say my aunt she lives in the united kingdom my uncle lives there as well with her right my dad talks to my aunt which is his sister literally every single morning.
31Now imagine if they could put on, and they FaceTime, but imagine if they could put on goggles, whether it's Facebooks or Apples. I'm going to vote for Apples because I think they're going to build a much better product, at least based on the video I saw when they did their launch. The Vision? Yeah. You can't buy it though. I'm waiting to be able to buy it. It's going to be more expensive now. $4 ,000 I think. They're having delays too, right? Imagine you could be all together in a living room eating together watching a football game together or soccer game and having conversations and it's like you're all there in person even though she's in london and my dad is in los angeles right that's where i think it's useful or from a business application standpoint dude you i i sat in your car today it was really cool there was a porsche tuscan i don't how to even say it.
25Taycan. Taycan. Okay. So Porsche Taycan electric Porsche, first electric car that is in a Tesla that I actually ever sat in. Oh, and it was really cool. Even the color. And I told you it was probably nice 10 times. I don't know how many, but you mentioned I said it one too many times. And then Eric's like, Oh, you're going to get one. I was like, no, um, I don't want to spend the money, but imagine you going to the dealership. You want to spend the money? What's your car? doesn't matter doesn't matter i already spent enough money okay so imagine eric going to buy one of those porsches but doing it virtually in the showroom and he wanted my feedback i put on my goggles and i'm there with him it's like he's sitting in there even though he's not at the dealership and it's all done virtually he clicks a button and it shows up on his doorstep in an hour or two hours or a day right that's where i see it going from a shopping perspective from a metaverse standpoint i know zuck is pushing metaverse because it's facebook i do see a virtual world i don't know if it's going to be controlled by facebook or somewhere else and the reason i say that is if i look at how i communicate with people me personally i know you have an iphone as well i do a lot of it over facetime you just call people usually i call people but i do a lot over facetime like if i want to compare like that virtual reality type of experience it's realistic because I don't think most people care for cartoon versions or avatar versions themselves.
49The real life stuff, you can get that from FaceTime, but imagine seeing the whole room, et cetera. Yeah, Apple goggles. What do I need the metaverse for? First of all, I don't know if they would like for you to call them Apple goggles. Apple Vision Pro. That sounds a lot better than Apple goggles. But point taken, whether you call it augmented reality or metaverse or virtual reality, at the end of the day, it just means technology is actually bringing us closer now. And when you look at that, it's a two hour interview done that way. And my thinking immediately is like, oh, when I do my long form interviews now, I don't like this setup.
24By the way, like I love the We Edit podcast team, you know, Dustin and Brad. It's great, great job. Right. But it's like they have to come an hour early, set things up. I have to come pick your ass up. And then, you know, we got to drive here in L.A. traffic, which is all great, by the way. It's like it's great to be in person. But if I can do it with some other like influential author like across the pond, like that's pretty cool. because it looks, it will be like a situation like this and retention graphs will shoot up. Like I would pay for that. Dude, imagine this. People wearing the Apple goggles because you like saying Vision Pro, so I'm going to use goggles.
57People wearing the Apple goggles and we're in an office space right now recording. Imagine you have 100 employees and making up the number. Yep. And everyone's wearing the goggles and it's like they're in an office setting, but they're all actually in their home and they're engaging and interacting like you have an office, but no one actually has to go to the office. I would. Okay. Would you pay a lot of, I would pay a lot of money for that. I would pay a lot of money for that. Yeah. See, there's a lot of amazing use cases like that. And Zuck and Facebook or Meta, they're going to try to create their own version.
29But where I think they're going to struggle is I don't think their hardware is going to be as good. Maybe the software side, the platform could be great, but I just don't think like, if you look at what Apple does with hardware, it's amazing. You know, I've never had anyone I've ever talked to being like, Oh my God, Oculus is amazing. Never once got that feedback. I get that feedback about Apple products, even some about Samsung products. But I think where they'll struggle is the hardware. Where they can succeed is the network, the platform. They just need to integrate other people's technology into their platform.
00And I think it can do well. I think the point of this episode is the whatever we want to call it, the metaverse, it is coming. And I think whatever form factor we choose, like advertising will have. Like if we're doing AR, like whatever we're looking at, whatever products we use a lot in augmented reality, like maybe we'll say, oh, by the way, we recommend using this cheaper product over here that has higher reviews. It's like, okay. Yeah. Like done deal. Right. So anything else? No, that's it. All right. That's it for today. Check out this video over here.
