And this is a episode where Neil can ask a couple of questions as well. We're trying to get Neil to actually come to this mastermind. As of this recording, I'm actually still in Turkey right now. I'm about to leave back to the States tomorrow and Neil's in Brazil. So Neil, how long have I been bothering you about coming to this, this little mastermind that we have? Sure. So just for everyone who's listening to clarify, Eric has a few masterminds. He has a leveling up mastermind. He has a different mastermind for entrepreneurs that he personally knows.
0:39The leveling up mastermind is great as well. I was giving him feedback how the last event I went to was the best one. And I remember telling him before, I don't know if you remember, Eric, I'm like, I don't know how many of these I'm going to keep going to. And now I'm asking him, hey, when's the next one for the leveling up one? But this mastermind is a little bit different. It's really established entrepreneurs. There's no cost to join. I think everyone just pays their own way. It's a small group of less than 10 people. Most people have either had exits. Some people have multi-billion dollar companies.
1:10A lot of people, I think almost everyone in there is worth nine figures or more. And, you know, he does them. How many times a year do you do them? Two times? Three times? Once, but we're going to do it two times, I think, for this year. No, that's cool. So you just finished it up. Or actually, you're in Turkey still right now. you're flying back tomorrow. What are some of the big things that you learned? Yeah. So just more context here. This is this group to Neil's point, nobody profits. What we do is everyone just pays costs to for travel and accommodations. And we kind of just split the bill afterwards.
1:49And so we go to we've been to Tulum, for example, this is why our group is called Tulum and we decided to do Turkey this year. And then we're looking at other spots that we typically wouldn't go to. And so we pick a cool spot to go to and we get a group of, to Neil's point, less than 10 people because we want to keep it very intimate. And the level of the group is very high. And so I basically started this group a couple of years ago because I've always loved YPO and EO forums, but I wanted to make my own version of it. And to Neil's point, it's just a really strong group of people, but more importantly than anything, there's no arrogance in the group.
2:24everyone is extremely humble. And so, for example, Patrick Campbell, he founded ProfitWell, sold it for$250 million. Our mutual friend, Syed Balki, he's known as the king of WordPress. And then Yaniv, right? He does telecoms. And so they all do different things, but everyone's a very sharp thinker and they all think differently as well. And so there's a diverse thought. So anyway, a couple of things that I've learned, Neil, I don't know if this is fascinating to me, but one of the key things from this one we did it in so as of this recording basically late april of 2023 now we're in may of 2023 but everyone's basically resetting right now or going back to the drawing board and what i mean by that is this whole concept of a recession right now it is hitting kind of everyone across the board and so you know people are getting they're having to jump back into the business in some cases, or some people are, they're thinking about what they want to do next, right?
3:23What they want to start next. And so it's not like it's smooth sailing once you're at a certain level. Everyone's, even if you're at a different level, you have new devils to deal with. And what I would say to that is it was very helpful to see everyone being vulnerable. And I think it gives a lot of comfort to everyone knowing that, yeah, certain cuts have had to be made, certain tough decisions have had to be made, and we're not alone. And so that's one of the key lessons. Did you learn any cool strategies or tactics marketing related that people are using right now that are working well? Yeah.
3:53I mean, one of the core topics was on AI, obviously, and we were all just kind of planning together, like without sharing too much, like we're trying to figure out how we can all generate these AI newsletters and how we can share the code with each other, how we can share the model with each other. And, you know, people can just deploy that model for their respective businesses. And so that's one thing. And we were just, there are a lot of tactics. And here's the thing. Morning Brew style? What's that? Morning Brew style newsletters? Yep. Morning Brew style, but using AI to generate it. Got it.
4:28Yeah. I'll just share like one more thing. So for example, I really like this one. So one of our, so Yaneve actually shared this one. You know, there's no private information to give up here, but there's a lot of stuff that I can't share. but the funnel for a website, have you seen a website called totalav.com? No. Okay. So totalav.com, I recommend anyone that's a marketing nerd, go take a look at the funnel and you can see how the upsell flow goes, how the downsell flow goes and how the cancellation flow goes. And that's a really good example of CRO to the max. And so you just learn these things that you otherwise wouldn't have learned elsewhere.
5:07And there's just a lot of hacks, a lot of tactical stuff, people sharing books and things like that. But like we were doing activities through the day, but there were a lot, there's a lot of content. And Neil, you might talk about some of the challenges that you're having and people just go around experience sharing. And I can see for some people, this is probably the most impactful event they've been to. And so I would say the key takeaway here without stretching this episode too long is that, again, I'm, you know, even though I have, you know, the leveling up mastermind, that's like, you know, that's where, you know, we go twice a year, Beverly Hills, Miami, that's 75 to 100 people or so.
5:40That's completely different than doing a smaller one. I believe anybody can do a smaller one, just get it going. And eventually, these people will be your lifelong friends, and you will grow together. And the final thing I'll share around this is because I've talked about the lifelong friends concepts. One of the key things that was mentioned was not thinking about your business in not even one year, but we talk about thinking in decades, right? But not even just 10 years, we're talking 20, 30, 40 years. And as long as you're in the game long enough, as long as you're even just treading water, you're going to figure it out.
6:10And we've all basically agreed that business is the best return that we're going to have. Sure, we can invest in kind of safe stuff as well, but it's the best thing. And none of us really need to be playing the game anymore, but we really enjoy playing the game. And that's why we do it. It's not even about, sure, the making money part is fun, like it keeps score, but ultimately it comes down to playing the game. It comes down to competing. And that's why we do what we do. So anyway, those are my takeaways. I don't want to drag it out too much, but highly recommend everyone do it. There's a lot of takeaways.
6:38And again, these are things, 95 % of the things we can't share online and you will just grow a lot faster by doing these things. So if that is it for today, please don't forget to rate, resubscribe, and we will see you later.
