0:07No Parental Guidance Hosts:So I lay down on the table, I'm laying there like that, and then she comes over and goes, right, so I'm going to have to just tape it down so it's out of the way. My penis had shriveled so much, there was nothing to tape. I said my penis went, all right then mate, I'm off. It's not because I can know. I just came back from a tour and she said, I'm a little bit late, I'm going to take a test. The moment I heard, Jo-o-o-de from upstairs, I went, I already know. She's walked out the toilet, I saw her face and I went...
0:30Jordan Banjo:Oh my God!
0:39Jordan Banjo:When you want your spring break to feel like... And your kids' pool day to feel like... And your hotel bed to feel like... Ooh, and room service to feel like... It's like, I love my kids, love my husband. Love them. Need to vent about them to make me feel normal. All the time. Yes. How's your week been? yeah good yeah i've been doing shows yeah preview bits sorting out merch for my tour gosh it's very exciting yeah there's a lot i can't wait i can't wait to see you on stage i'm going to feel so proud i want to feel like the mother like seeing their their daughter on stage like that's my girl and then i'll be like why is it like a mosh pit down there someone heckles me i will be that person being dragged out i will find them i will fight them and hunt them down God and how's your week been?
2:22Jordan Banjo:Do you know what I was actually thinking on the way here I'm not sure if I have a parenting fail this week Really? Controversial Yeah Like have I been oh no there it is Yeah Yeah there was something actually What happened? Well you know we have like a movie night on Fridays with the kids and I'm going through well we love showing them old 80s movies Yeah I think they're the best That's such a good idea. I love it. I love it. You get to watch them back. Reminisce yourself. And then like educate them on what life used to be like. Exactly. And it's a lovely, lovely time for all of us to sit together.
2:59Jordan Banjo:And we have popcorn and we make it like a thing. And it's lovely. And so last week we watched Uncle Buck. And I've never seen Uncle Buck. I don't know how I missed it as a child. Have you seen Uncle Buck? No. It's brilliant. It's great. but some of the language in it is probably not appropriate for a six-year-old girl oh no so she now knows the word oh and then you have to explain it's a dog it's a dog it's like it's not really though is it i was like where did you where did you learn that word is it at school who's saying that word at school it's like when you watch a sex scene with your parents isn't it oh my god I remember when I was younger and you'd sit there and then the female would be like and then you're like and then everybody's so uncomfortable I remember like feeling so uncomfortable and I remember once my dad was like well you won't know what that is Hannah and I was like I do oh god my mom would just be like oh it's not like that in real life and like kind of like like put it in me now it sounds weird we're going to have movie nights do you have at your house instilled in me it's a family affair she instilled in me that sex could never be as good as it is in the movies I wondered when I saw Jessie's like oh movie nights so Louise and her family are amazing but yeah it is and now when when there is like even like a snogging scene in a movie when I watch it with the boys, you know, they're 13 and 10.
4:31Jordan Banjo:They are both like, oh God, I don't want to look. I don't want to look. They're the ones that are getting embarrassed. Yeah, yeah. And I'm like, oh my God, it's fine. It's normal. It's lovely. But I think they're actually, they are actually interested. Oh yeah, of course they are. I remember I used to hear my mum and dad having sex when I was younger. Oh God, really? Yeah. Me and my brother used to do that thing where we used to crawl across the hallway because obviously there was no phones or anything. so I'd crawl across the hallway so there's my bedroom my parents then my brothers and I'd go into his room and be like Andrew Andrew mum and dad are having sex again oh my god and then he'd be like that's disgusting and then turn around and I'd go back to my room again I was actually thinking the other day because I I work from home when I'm not here and my husband does and the other day I was like we could just have sex during the day then you went nah yeah I was like I'm too busy do you like I find like we have to schedule it we have to schedule sex because otherwise a week could pass quite easily and I always think to myself um like sex and communication in a relationship is so important and it's hard because I'm quite frigid sometimes so I have to like go right you know what that I always feel happier like when we're in a nice routine together feel a bit more connected and but when you're disconnected yeah and you're not doing rudies or anything you do feel like a complete disconnect don't you completely yeah i do so how often are you having sex well we try and schedule a couple of times a week do you yeah we try good for you but then obviously we have three children yeah and i know how busy you are but but that that's like when it's in a good rhythm what about you like do you schedule it um we try to uh we send each other like emojis during the day to kind of like know that it's the classic aubergine and a peach oh okay yeah sometimes the beaver yeah i'm not really a fan of the beaver oh what a relationship looks like after a few kids so like jesse went to the shops yesterday um to get a few bits and um and i text him saying oh can you pick me up a treat as well and then he just replied with a an aubergine and i was like okay it's on isn't it hard though you know when it was yeah you know you're walking funny today um you'd had a movie night with your mum
6:59Jordan Banjo:right have you got a fail for me this week so I do have a bit of a fail is um basically I had a gig uh at the weekend yeah so I've got everything organized and my son had a kids party and I said oh you know how was the party and he was like oh it was really good like we won it was like a nerf gun party in a forest which is like an amazing idea for young boys um and basically what happened was on saturday the day before the party um my son has this obsession with eating satsumas yeah and i said you can have you know i don't mind you eating as many satsumas as you want but um instead of eating chocolate and I was like I'd rather you eat satsumas than chocolate and then before I left to do my show on the Sunday I thought oh where's all the satsumas gone because it was like 10 of them and like six apples I don't know where they've all gone and I thought Annabelle's probably hidden them and um basically Bradley had gone to this party unbeknown to me the lad had eaten about seven or eight satsumas the day before he'd taken what I said literally oh wow so i'm happy for you to eat as many satsumas as you want so he's at this nerf gun party he's at the other end of the forest up a tree and he's like obviously gonna sell because he's eaten so much stuff the day before because he was like if i if i get down from the tree i'm gonna get caught and my whole team's gonna lose because of me so he slithered down the tree in a holly bush and covered it and then he went back up the tree oh wow and then when he said I pooed in a holly bush and it was really sharp and I was like oh bless him oh could you not have like pooed somewhere else I mean it's worse I was at a swimming party once where a kid did a poo in the pool and then the whole party's ruined yeah that's it yeah game over it's like oh right we've got another hour of don't know where we're gonna go now just like hang out in the changing rooms oh how awful yeah it's like when you've got a baby in a carrier you've got your backpack on baby in a carrier and a couple of shopping bags and you go it's like going when you're on a train yeah and you're like I really need to wee and you take two little boys in with you with another child strapped to you and it's like you know that that button that says open that's flashing because it's locked you know they're just going to press it 100 the amount of times Bradley and Logan has pressed the button yeah while I'm mid wee and it's like when you're on your period a bit and you've got a pad in and somebody opens that door and they're seeing it they're seeing it or they're like they're going no no don't open the door don't open the door and then there it is from the stage of bgt to the airwaves of kiss fm he's spent the last two decades at the heart of british culture he's a diversity icon a two-time jungle survivor and the man who finally traded the early morning kiss fm radio shifts for his three kids please welcome the one and only it's jordan bungee it's jordan bungee what's an intro you were literally
9:57No Parental Guidance Hosts:like this the heart of british culture i was like yes yes yes probably but thank you very much
10:03Jordan Banjo:thank you you're here do you know what i'm buzzing that you're here honestly guys absolutely buzzing that you're here i've interviewed cristiano ronaldo and i am more excited about chatting to you today listen to kiss fm radio for ages i was gonna say you could probably base it on the football skills
10:18No Parental Guidance Hosts:because I'm quite terrible at football. That's right. I'm so bad at football. But yeah, no, Kiss. Thank you, guys. That was quite a run. You know, we only ended, well, a couple of weeks ago and it's been a weird one. It must be weird. We did it for the breakfast show for nearly six years and then we was at Kiss for about a year before that.
10:39Jordan Banjo:You were saying you were waking up at like three in the morning.
10:41No Parental Guidance Hosts:Yeah, my alarm has been 3 a.m. for the past however many years.
10:44Jordan Banjo:But what did you do then if your kids were ill or they were waking up in the night? Like what time did you go to bed and what if they woke, who would get up?
10:50No Parental Guidance Hosts:Well, this is the point. My wife, I have to tip my hat because she would always sort of tackle that during the night. But then it would come to a point, you know when like.
10:59Jordan Banjo:Love that, tackle it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because that's how it feels, right? Yeah, actually, yeah.
11:03No Parental Guidance Hosts:Like if one of the kids has thrown up in the middle of the night or something or someone's not well, then you get up and there's both of you in there. Do you know what I mean? One of you is like cuddling the child, like they've just witnessed the world in the end and the other one's on the bed trying to sort this out and get it all ready. and we just sort of try to use a little bit of teamwork. The annoying part is I got up into London. I finished the radio show. I'd come back. I'd either go and do training, do rehearsals, do filming, have a great – do something really cool, like this podcast, whatever we're doing.
11:32No Parental Guidance Hosts:Then it'd be school run time. So I'd normally pick the kids up and then bring them home. And then once you get home, I'd either have some other work to do and then my wife's got work to do. We're doing this and juggling. Then you put the kids to bed. And then there's literally been zero time where me and her – really shared a word so rather than me being like okay well let's go to bed you end up wanting to have a little chat of course you want to do this yeah have a little chat a little chat a bit of rudy's still got a still got a schmoozer a little bit uh but the funny part is we'd sit down let's start a series i'm like yeah let's do that eight o 'clock stick the tv on quarter past eight i'm like this snoring on the side you just yeah you just lose it you know very familiar that's it man And I think every parent relatively has that kind of, that same dynamic.
12:21No Parental Guidance Hosts:You get up, it's work. Then you actually go to work. You come home, you're sorting the kids, you try to have time for each other, and then that's work and then you fall asleep. Like that's it. Do you know what I mean?
12:28Jordan Banjo:And does she message you, you know, when you've been doing the radio at like half eight in the morning to be like, the kids have been kicking off this morning and you're there like, you're working obviously, but it must be hard sometimes if like one of the kids has been crying or isn't feeling very well and you're not there. and it's like, it's that parenting juggle, isn't it? That's tough.
12:46No Parental Guidance Hosts:I'm quite a reactive person. Sometimes I speak before I think. So I'd get a text while I'm live on air, like, oh my gosh, one of the kids has just farted in the car and it stinks. I put the mic on and go, right. That goes down to my son, who's just cleared the car out when he farted. And he'd get to school. And then one of his mates would be like, I heard about you farting on the radio. And that was something I never even thought about. When they were really young, obviously they are still young. My son's seven, about to be eight. my daughter's six but because a lot of their mates in school knew I was on radio they'd listen on the school of course yeah so then they'd get into school and then repeat what they'd heard so then I had to stop being careful what I'd said because I'd be like oh this happened at the weekend or I did this and even though it's funny to parents to like a seven-year-old kid who's trying to sing call to his mates yeah telling the nation that he farted in the car and his mum had to text me he was like what are you doing to me why are you telling everyone you've got three kids what are their ages you said seven so cassius is seven yeah uh mimi is six and atreus is two and tell
13:49Jordan Banjo:us because i know with atreus you had that hospital rush and yeah so what happened there listen and is he all right he's all right now he's fine now oh thank goodness so this is what
13:58No Parental Guidance Hosts:happened right and i find it and i've actually found this to be true in so many occasions like my wife will say to me and i'm sure as moms you guys will agree and you'll know i know the difference in my baby's cries i know the difference yeah and as toddlers i know because i'll be like but like an actual cry but even when he was little she was like i know something's not right um and it was the entire day i was i was at i was at the radio station was at kiss and she texted me she's like something's not right with trey and i was like okay well look keep an eye and then we're texting throughout the day and everything she's like he's perked up a bit but I'm not sure and I'll be completely honest with you I'm the first one with the kids when someone falls or someone is or someone does that I'm not really a panicker I'm like come on you're alright and it's probably not the best reaction every time but I found more times than not generally they're alright anyway in the end she was like I'm taking him to the hospital some people are alright I then left Kiss and went straight to the hospital by the time I got there because she's now not replying oh god i've walked in i promise you guys now he is literally the color of this chair like he's like gray he's gray he's got tubes sticking out of him like little iv stuff and i went what the hell has happened in like the hour and a half and they were running tests and then they came up i was like look we've done his blood bar because we don't know what caused it but he's he's septic like he's got sepsis and i was like what is going on and what we didn't know at the time is i think it's it's stupid really you know sometimes when you're in a doctor's and you're with a kid if you've got a feeling as a parent sometimes you feel a bit silly
15:39Jordan Banjo:suggesting something to the doctor i don't know if like yeah yeah yeah to be fair the instinct is so strong exactly and with my wife actually more so not if she really feels so she she she would
15:50No Parental Guidance Hosts:say it right but my daughter uh so my middle she had uh cmpi so kel's milk protein allergy or intolerance whatever it was and it used to bring around all these really bad rashes and all these things so it wasn't just like oh lacto it was like really difficult to have this special milk whatever and i we didn't know this but he had that at the time so we're in hospital not only is he battling sepsis? I'm then flipping guzzling this milk down because they're like, oh, he needs to keep feeding. So now his skin's breaking out even more. So he was in the hospital for like three days. And to me, I was like, he's just getting worse.
16:28No Parental Guidance Hosts:And then they came in and said, they brought, in the end, they brought it all down to viral meningitis.
16:34Jordan Banjo:Oh gosh.
16:36No Parental Guidance Hosts:And after like antibiotics and this and that, and then I thought, is he got the same thing as Mimi? Is he like got this cow's milk protein allergy thing? And in the end, we changed milks. they put him on antibiotics and in a few days right as rain he was okay but i think the reason i included that bit about the the cow's milk part was for me the same time i said to my wife no he's fine don't worry give him some cow pole and if i would have said something about the cow's milk on the first day probably would have shaved three or four days off of the whole the whole deal i think if you've got an instinct about it especially at that age four months can't speak for themselves It's my job to ask every single question.
17:15No Parental Guidance Hosts:Even if I am that annoying parent where someone goes, for f*** sake, this guy's an idiot. I'd rather have that reaction and get something right than not.
17:24Jordan Banjo:What do you think is the hardest part of parenting?
17:26No Parental Guidance Hosts:So when I found out my wife was pregnant, I was 24. It certainly wasn't planning to have any kids at that point. And she said, I'm a little bit late. I'm going to take a test. And I was like, okay. Genuinely, I was playing Xbox in my living room at the time. and she went and done a test and the moment I heard Jude from upstairs I went I already know I already know she came in showed me the test I laughed solidly for about 20 minutes and then point blank refused to talk about it for about two months right
17:56Jordan Banjo:really yeah
17:57No Parental Guidance Hosts:like and that's what I say now looking at it it's quite funny but looking back now I literally put my head in my hands I feel quite like being older yeah I'm almost like ashamed about it because I'm like look it was her first time too yeah yeah
18:11Jordan Banjo:she put a shit herself.
18:12No Parental Guidance Hosts:Do you know what I mean? And I was like, I can't talk about it. I can't talk about it. So this moment that's meant to be like really magical when I just went into complete panic mode where I was like, just don't talk to me about it. So until that bump started showing, then I was like, okay, I'll be good. And was it because you were scared?
18:26Jordan Banjo:I was petrified.
18:27No Parental Guidance Hosts:None of my friends had kids. My older brother, Ash, he didn't have any kids at the time. Like no one around me had children. I just didn't know what to expect. And then when he was first born, when Cass was first born, again, because no one around us had kids, this and that. It all got solved with the very simple use of Gabbiscon, but he had the worst reflux ever. Oh, refluxes. Yeah, that's hard. Again, I didn't know what reflux was. So we'd be feeding him and I'd be like, yeah, babies throw up. In my head, I was just like, babies throw up, I don't know. So when he was first born, I was petrified, no idea what I was doing.
18:59No Parental Guidance Hosts:And every time I went near him, he'd just scream.
19:02Jordan Banjo:Just sounds like fatherhood.

19:04No Parental Guidance Hosts:For the first three or four months, this sounds awful. I was like, I actively don't even want to be around him. Like, I felt so guilty because I thought, like, he'd be born. I'd lift him up like he was flipping Lion King. I would hold him up to the sun and I'd have this, like, automatic connection. I was like, the immediate thing I felt was responsibility. That's what I felt. But this instant sparkle in my eye, which I looked at my wife and she had. Like, she was, like, just in love immediately. And I remember holding him thinking, nothing's clicking. Like, I don't know what to do. How am I holding him?
19:32No Parental Guidance Hosts:How am I doing this? I remember when I changed, you know, when they had that first poo and it's, like, trying to cling tar out of a carpet. Yeah, yeah. I was there like panicking. I mean, he was in that little end cot at the end of the bed. My wife sort of.
19:43Jordan Banjo:And it's like, how do you change it? You know, when you see their balls and they're winking, you're like, am I hurting them? Like,
19:49No Parental Guidance Hosts:man, the panic was real. It's worse with a girl,
19:50Jordan Banjo:isn't it? Because you had to be really intricate with a girl. Which again,
19:53No Parental Guidance Hosts:when my daughter was born a year later, which is, this is the funny part because by this point, I then knew about his reflux. Me and him, he's a year old. We've started now playing. There's that rough and tumble. Which I think is when a dad really comes into their own. Do you know what I mean? We've sort of got that bond. When my daughter was born, if you look at every single picture, I mean, I guarantee it, I'm like, please don't. He's going to be sat in a counselling session. Look how happy he was when she was unbeaming, like ear to ear. And it's purely down to, oh, I know what to expect. Which is the way he can't.
20:26No Parental Guidance Hosts:It's just when he was first born, I honestly thought, this kid's not going to survive two weeks. I'm going to mess it up. I'm not going to do something right. And how do I help my wife? How do I do this? How do I do that? I really, really thought this isn't going to go well. You might be one of those people where it just clicks, and I won't lie, the rest of us hate you. It might just click and everything's perfect.
20:43Jordan Banjo:It's like what, your baby sleeps through, does it? Oh, brilliant.
20:46No Parental Guidance Hosts:But if you're like 99 % of us, there's going to be a dynamic shift in your relationship. It's going to be a weird thing to get used to, and it's not going to be easy. It just is what it is. You know what I mean?
20:54Jordan Banjo:It's not easy at all, but we do go on and have more children. Yeah, and it is the best thing. It is. But I wanted to ask, because you've been quite open about having a vasectomy. Yes. Can we talk about this?
21:04No Parental Guidance Hosts:Please do, man.
21:04Jordan Banjo:So obviously that was your decision. You're happy to do that? So I'm very happy not.
21:12No Parental Guidance Hosts:So what happened was after Cass was born, I remember when he was about eight weeks old and we're in the thick of, I can't pick him up. Probably like three months old, I can't pick him up. I remember thinking, I'm going to get a vasectomy. And she said to them, I was like, one's enough for me. And she was like, no, we found out about the whole reflux thing. this and that i was like oh this can actually because i really thought this is what having a baby was yeah just that way and that's all and i would argue listen and it's only since i started being around way more when i was little that i would say yeah like a mother's patience and i know there's a lot of stay-at-home dads as well but a stay-at-home parents patients whoever's like the primary carer yeah the level of like understanding patience consists like that you have to have an adaptability is just flipping insane like hats off because it is i love you for saying that no it's the truth no no it's mental so you decided to get your cut off so we had our second so cas was uh six months old when we found out that nae was pregnant
22:18Jordan Banjo:and i remember so you're still having sex with all of the reflux yeah still happening wow i mean
22:28No Parental Guidance Hosts:So we found that she was pregnant And Nay immediately Our reactions were the opposite way around this time Oh really? She's been in the thick of it Now she actually knows What it's like to have a baby She finds out she's pregnant I remember her going to be like

24:11No Parental Guidance Hosts:I'm going to have a newborn and a one-year-old. What am I going to do? She was petrified.
24:16Jordan Banjo:Yeah.
24:16No Parental Guidance Hosts:Completely understandable. Yeah. And I was like, yeah, I don't know either. So after Mimi was born, I said, all right, I've had one boy, one girl. Things are perfect. I'm getting a facetomy.
24:30Jordan Banjo:So she never suggested it to you? It wasn't her.
24:32No Parental Guidance Hosts:No, no, no. It wasn't nay. It wasn't nay. Not at all. I said, I want to get a facetomy. She was like, I don't think you should because you never know. You're still so young. Because at the time Mimi was born, I was like 25, 26. She was like, you're still so young. I really think that you should think about it. I was like, no, I'm getting it. Booked it all in. and it was booked for like april 17th 2020 oh no lockdown here so they cancelled every person yeah they cancelled everything couldn't go in right so i was like okay cancelled i'll reschedule it we're being we're being as careful as you kind of that means you're just pulling out going whoopsie there you go there you go it will be fine with the tactic don't worry about it don't worry it'll be fine and then on our on our honeymoon we got married august 2022 and on our
25:17Jordan Banjo:honeymoon you had a great time didn't you well do you know what i wish it would have been it's
25:22No Parental Guidance Hosts:hilarious to think that she was pregnant at our wedding and we didn't know oh really and at the wedding she was like i feel a bit weird like i'm not really gonna she had like one glass of champagne was like i'm not really gonna drink i feel a bit weird i feel a bit sicker again i'm telling you that our mum's instinct even yeah yeah even if she didn't know that yeah she was just i feel a bit her body was telling her something yeah so we're in uh we stopped over at doha airport and i remember it i was in the queue for kfc she went i'm gonna go to the toilet i i am late i've checked my app i'm late i'm gonna do a test i went all right she went i'll do one banter from across the terminal she's walked out the toilet i saw her face and i went oh my god i'm straight out of the queue i lost my appetite i was like i've lost my appetite she walked over sat down with me and she went yes that's positive.
26:08No Parental Guidance Hosts:And then before Trey was born, Trey was due in April, in February, I want to get my vasectomy. I was like, I'm not even, and everyone's like, do you not want to wait till he's born? I was like, nope, trust me, he's going to be absolutely fine. And if I don't, she'll end up having triplets or something.
26:20Jordan Banjo:Because what is exactly with a vasectomy, like cut your tubes?
26:24No Parental Guidance Hosts:Do you know what? What happens? Give us the details. I'm going to break it down for you.
26:28Jordan Banjo:I'm actually really excited about this because I don't know. Let's go. Right, strap in.
26:31No Parental Guidance Hosts:Again, once again, I find this weird. I get being nervous about it, But talking about it out loud, I don't think it's that big of a deal. But anyway, I decided to go with it. Ironically enough, the doctor who did it was called Dr. Acorn. What? Dr. Acorn, which is brilliant. Love that. Booked the date, turned up. Now, this is where things go a little bit wrong. I insist on the fact that this was the nurse's fault because she wasn't very clear. I'm G-ing myself up because I'm nervous. So I've walked in and she's gone, right, if you just want to take your stuff off. Kicked my shoes off. Bang. I just was like straight in, pulled my trousers down.
27:04No Parental Guidance Hosts:The horror on her face when she said, I meant your jacket. Oh, no. So then I had to do that awkward thing where my knees are touching and I'm trying to pull them back up. Oh, my gosh. Put my shoes back on and take off my jacket and woolly hat. And then I go and sit down. So that was the first awful part.
27:21Jordan Banjo:I mean, she should have made that quite clear.
27:23No Parental Guidance Hosts:Very clear because you don't have to take everything off. Then she said, okay.
27:26Jordan Banjo:Especially when you're at the reception.
27:28No Parental Guidance Hosts:Then she goes, right. So we've done the reception bit. We go to the nurse office. She goes, right, let's go through to where the doctor is. I said, wicked. We go through. I'm now just in my tracksuit and no shoes or anything. And Dr. Acorn's in there. She's in there. And they're like, oh, are you okay? Well, now she's laughing. Now you can get undressed. I said, okay, wicked. And she goes, lay down on the table. So I lay down on the table. I'm laying there like that, looking up at the ceiling. And then she comes over and goes, right, so I'm going to have to just tape it down so it's out the way.
27:55Guys, I promise you now, my penis had shriveled so much.
27:59No Parental Guidance Hosts:There was nothing to tape. She couldn't tape it up to my stomach. so I watched her very awkwardly just place a piece of tape on the top of it like she just went like that just this nub that was sticking out she just placed a piece of tape over it that's why Dr. A concave oh my god I guess it's better that way
28:15Jordan Banjo:than getting a hard on the concave which is also awkward yeah either way I mean it's awkward either way it would have been brilliant just to sit
28:21No Parental Guidance Hosts:bang in the middle but no he said my penis went alright mate I'm off a guy sitting just like this nub it was like a nose and they just put a bit of tape over it and he come over and he went okay and even the okay sounded disappointing I'm six foot five I'm a big guy it looks even smaller in that scenario and then literally he he started they do the little injections to numb it but I promise you now the actual procedure was it must have been a maximum I promise of about two minutes
28:49Jordan Banjo:no
28:50No Parental Guidance Hosts:literally they make a little incision they lift the tube out
28:53Jordan Banjo:and you can't feel it
28:54No Parental Guidance Hosts:you can feel like pulling yeah but like you're numb but you're numb the only thing that was gross is you hear the cut and obviously it's like a tube right And then they singe either end. And then that's it. Like the cut is so tiny. And then literally I was there two minutes. I sat up. I was like, okay. That's it? That's it. Oh my God, that's quicker than getting the coil. Mate, the actual procedure is nothing. It's the days after that's the issue because everything swells.
29:21Jordan Banjo:Okay.
29:21No Parental Guidance Hosts:Yeah. So when I woke up, then it's, because I went to bed, I was like, I feel all right. Like, yeah, it feels like it's been like maneuvered a bit and stuff. But I'm fine. like honestly this is because i took i was i'm taking the next day off of kiss i'm not going into radio just in case i'm going to bed that night thinking do i just go like what's the point like i feel fine i thought no just in case guys i woke up in the middle of the night because i rolled over i rolled and then my scrotum came about five seconds after like it was so it swelled up so much were you quite pleased about that i wish i could have been i wish i could have been it was literally like holding you know i mean like you feel a balloon to the point where you know that the slightest bit of pressure is going to pop.
30:01No Parental Guidance Hosts:That's how it felt. It was so uncomfortable. But after a couple of days. And is that normal? Yeah, the swelling is normal. I guess some people swell more than others. But that was it. After a couple of days, swelling went down. Fine.
30:16Jordan Banjo:So that means then that your sticky tummy worms, you just don't have the swimmers.
30:21No Parental Guidance Hosts:That's it. Yeah. So you're still thingy. There's still juice. You're still bang. That's what everyone would call it. I won't lie. This is one thing that happened. And I've never said this publicly before out loud. The first ever time I thingied again. Yeah. It was like. Spider-Man. It was like Spider-Man. Blood red. It was like blood. Was it? Yeah. And is that normal? I don't know. It hasn't happened since, but it's the very first time. It scared the life out of me. I was like. Wow. Your wife's like that.
30:49Jordan Banjo:Oh my God. It's like Halloween. First time I Spider-Man again.
30:54No Parental Guidance Hosts:It was, it was, there was like, it was, it was basically. It looked like pure blood, which was a bit scary. And then the time after that, it was fine. Yeah, normal.
31:01Jordan Banjo:Wow. That's it. And you could have it reversed if you wanted.
31:04No Parental Guidance Hosts:Yeah, I don't think I ever will. If one wanted to do it. If one wanted, yeah. I don't think, I think me and my wife, sometimes, even though we're in the toddler stage, I look at Trey, like he's so young still. And I look at my oldest and I'm like, gosh, how have you gone from that to that? I remember you being that and that feels literally like. I know. I'm like, why does it go so quick? And sometimes in them moments, like we were moving stuff out and when you lower the cot down and you take the sidebars off and then I've got the cot bed, I'm like, oh, we're never going to have that again. Like that kind of, those little things kind of hurt.
31:39No Parental Guidance Hosts:And you get out of the tiny little onesies. And one of the other boys in diversity, he's just had a little boy as well, which is lovely. He's only a couple of months old. And I gave loads of stuff to him. and we had like a double pram and all this other stuff. And as I was, I was like, wow, like this is, it's cool because it's clearing a lot of space, but I will never need any of this stuff again. And that kind of, I could see my wife feeling a bit emotional. I won't lie, the tour and kids situation's difficult, especially, I think it's harder as they get older.
32:09Jordan Banjo:How are you managing that around kids? Tell us all that.
32:11No Parental Guidance Hosts:I think you're in this mid gap where I think once they, you can tell me I'm wrong here. Once they hit that teenage sort of gap, if I'm away, I can, the communication can be a bit better. It is a lot easier because they've got,
32:22Jordan Banjo:I can text my son he's got a phone sorry I missed you this morning like this morning I didn't see him this morning text him have a great day thanks mum love you bye you've got that connection there a bit more right
32:32No Parental Guidance Hosts:we're sort of in that midpoint where when they were really really young like babies you really miss them but they're not even vocal enough to say how much they miss you now we've hit the stage where my son's seven daughter's six the youngest one Trey when I get home and I've been away for a few days he's like daddy and he's excited but he almost feels like out of sight out of mind whereas with the older two I'll get texts from their iPad like I really miss you and I'm like oh yeah do you get a bit of dad guilt then oh immensely and especially because as well with Tor and the reason I bring it up is because I had it the other day on that subject my wife was I think she'd taken Trey somewhere my youngest somewhere and it was just me Cass and Mimi at home and my daughter's at that stage now where she does not like once she starts talking I'll get in you know some kids my son's one way she's the other I'll say to him how was school and he'll go good oh my god that's all I get
33:25Jordan Banjo:from my son
33:26No Parental Guidance Hosts:if I say to Mimi how was school for 45 minutes monologue
33:30Jordan Banjo:really breakdown of
33:31No Parental Guidance Hosts:because Esme said this to Delon Marina wasn't happy and then Marina cried because I didn't sit with her the whole time is this the same
33:37Jordan Banjo:for every girl is this what I've got I don't know
33:40No Parental Guidance Hosts:I've only had one but that's how she is yeah that's
33:42Jordan Banjo:like the full debrief breakdown yeah my son literally would just go good anyway how's football good anything good and I'm like can you give me another adjective please just something
33:54No Parental Guidance Hosts:I saw it on TikTok and my wife sent it to me and laughed because this happened to us she went oh it's not just us then I said to my son how was school she said it good was it alright yeah what did you do nothing then you go you know like now everything's online right you can go on the app he was there holding an iguana and I went what do you mean when did that happen why did that happen oh someone came into the school and I was like that's something to say mate yeah yeah that's quite a big deal it's been around but then like i was saying sorry the other day i was cooking my daughter hadn't stopped talking i was rushing about my i had to get back out uh take my son back out to football there's loads going on and for once he actually came in to talk to me about something and funnily enough i think i'd just been sending a voice note and i was there cooking food and he came he went so dad basically and i i didn't didn't realize i I must have done this out loud.
34:44No Parental Guidance Hosts:I went, oh God. And he went, and you know, like immediately I was like, oh, you are a piece of shit. He went, oh, sorry, don't worry about it. And I literally went, oh my days. Oh no, no, no, no. I want to hear about it. It wasn't at you. It wasn't you. It wasn't him. But in the moment, it's not his fault. And I'm not trying to, you know, it's their moments as parents where sometimes I feel like if you say that out loud, everyone on social media, suddenly a clinical psychologist, like the detriment that you've just caused to his mental health. I'm like, mate, I'm trying my best to. I'm not trying to do anything.
35:17No Parental Guidance Hosts:Do you know what I mean? Yeah. And I felt so awful in that moment. I mean, admittedly, he then told me about the most mundane, pointless thing in the world. And I had to pretend. I was like, oh, wicked. Thanks for that, mate. I felt bad for nothing.
35:27Jordan Banjo:Please tell me same time tomorrow. Let's have the same thing. Get back here tomorrow. But yeah, you just sort of learn as you go along. So you've done I'm a Celebrity twice. Yes. And so you were away from the kids for quite a while.
35:36No Parental Guidance Hosts:Yeah. Well, the very first time I did it was 2016. so me me and my me and my uh my wife had only been together about a year at the time we didn't have any kids um but i found weird on a personal level obviously not from a kid front but like for me i found the first i'm a celebrity borderline impossible i really crumbled because i was 23 when i did it and it's the first thing i'd ever done outside of diversity right even when the little presenting things i did with perry was always backstage presenting with diversity doing that so i got asked to do the jungle and i was like that's a random casting funnily enough they asked me to do it in the october and we flew out mid-november so i had like two weeks notice wow oh my god and i think but i'm not sure who but someone must have dropped out and they're like who can we panic cast right so they asked me and i went no problem i was like yes i'll be there no problem so i when i say no problem i actually said no at first and it was my brother who's like look jude like this is a huge opportunity you should do it and i was like okay you wouldn't just be yourself have a laugh you'll be fine said okay turn up the very first day i'm standing there and then i'd never met before the first celeb who came up was carol walderman oh yeah and this obviously this was 10 years ago it was 10 years ago this year actually she's come walking up these steps and carol obviously she's like she's beautiful right legend stunning she's wearing this all gold fasachi dress and she looks like carol walderman from tv there's no acorn then was there right there was she looks like tv star carol walderman and i was standing there my asus my asus shirt and my loafers right i was like i'm a bit off more like a chewie like i immediately crumbled it's like the first day i was fine and then after that i was like all the filming all the this all that it just i just got really overwhelmed really quick and i panicked that i was like it's not about me i'm representing diversity what if i come across like a So instead of saying something wrong, don't say anything.
37:37No Parental Guidance Hosts:So I then went into this weird little show of, I'd literally, every day, I'd sit in my hammock. They'd be like, who wants to do the trial? Do you want to? I'd be like, no, I'm all right. I literally, the first time I went on there, I just completely buckled.
37:49Jordan Banjo:And were you unhappy when you were there? Yeah, I was really unhappy.
37:53No Parental Guidance Hosts:I didn't feel myself. I was really nervous about, like I said, I was really nervous about messing something up. So anyway, I came out. I don't know how I didn't get kicked out first. I think I was like the fourth or fifth person to leave or whatever. And then a few years later, by this point, I've got two kids. I get a call and they're like, we want you to come and do the Legends series. I was like, Legends for what? The most quiet campmate ever existed. I was like, well, how am I as a legend? They're like, can you come on? I said, yeah, let's do it. And I was like, when's the dates? And they were like, oh, we start filming August or whatever it was.
38:28No Parental Guidance Hosts:My honeymoon overlapped to it. So I had to cut my honeymoon short to go and do it. Wow. And I was thinking, oh, is my wife going to be okay with this? Bearing in mind, on the way back from the honeymoon, I found out I was pregnant. Oh my God, of course. So then we panic, get this scan in, and we do this early scan. And, you know, as soon as we did it, he was like, oh, oh, that's, that doesn't look right. That doesn't look, and I was like, what do you mean? Like, I know we're really early. I think she was like eight weeks at the time, something like that. But I was like, we just want to get a really early scan just to check.
38:57No Parental Guidance Hosts:He was like, that doesn't look quite right. And I was like, what does that mean? and he was like well you're gonna have to come back in four weeks and we'll see i was leaving the next day oh my gosh so then i left um and then and then obviously you get your phone taken off you and there's no communication you go in the jungle oh my gosh so i was like really panicking in there like i was thinking oh but in in terms of the show itself as i'm a celebrity this time i went you're never going to get this opportunity again yeah and forget what comes out doesn't come out messing up mate this is actually pretty nuts that you get to do this so we went out to South Africa this time, like in the camp, you'd be walking to trials and back, you'd just see like monkeys running around and all this crazy, I was like, this is insane that we've actually got to, got this on shoot.
39:39No Parental Guidance Hosts:So I just enjoyed it, which I really did. But I remember there was this one trial and the prize was someone gets to call home.
39:47Jordan Banjo:And I remember, and I was like, okay,
39:49No Parental Guidance Hosts:look, I can't, she's so early. We've only just found out. I haven't told my family yet. I don't want to announce on TV. Yeah. Or like, Even if I know the series wasn't going out yet, but I was like, it'll get leaked. I don't want to say, look, my wife's having it. I need to call home. So it was Helen Flanagan.
40:07Jordan Banjo:Yeah.
40:08No Parental Guidance Hosts:I love Helen. She's so funny, right? But sometimes I think like, you know, I don't think she's realising what I'm saying. She was so preoccupied with the trial. So we won. We beat this trial. We used it to two teams. It was like, okay, one person on this team gets a call home. So I went, Helen, look, no one knows this, but Ney's pregnant. She went, oh my God, babe, congrats. I said, right. But we're in a rush because we have to explain. I said, I don't know if everything's all right with the baby or not. I need to get the call home.
40:36Jordan Banjo:And she would totally get that, wouldn't she? Completely understand it.
40:39No Parental Guidance Hosts:Helen, bless her, I just can't lie to save her life. She's so lovely and she's too honest. She can't lie to save her life. I was like, don't say anything to anyone. But when they ask us, I'm going to take the call. She's like, no problem. So they come in and they come in like, right, who's taking the call for your team? Now, it's not just me and Helen on our team. There's other people. I'm trying to remember who it was, right? Let's say it's not Fatima Whitbread, but let's say it was Fatima. Yeah. And I've gone, all right, Fatima, you're the team leader. Who's taking the call? She went, right, Jordan's strong.
41:10No Parental Guidance Hosts:I know he's okay. So he won't need the call. Helen needs to talk to her babies, right?
41:15Jordan Banjo:Oh, no.
41:16No Parental Guidance Hosts:So I've gone like this and looked at Helen like, No, sorry. I want to get the call to Jordan. She's looking at me. He doesn't know. Can't think of an excuse the time. I goes, thanks, Fatima. No, no ditching. But then I think she spent, and then she went out before me, maybe like the next day. She was ringing Nath for me, going, is everything okay? Like panicking. Like I say, Helen's like the nicest person ever. She came out and the first thing she did was speak to Nath for me.
41:43Jordan Banjo:Oh my gosh. That's my point.
41:44No Parental Guidance Hosts:But it's like, you know, in those high pressured situations, and I'm looking at her going, don't say anything, don't say anything. She's like, okay, okay, okay. And I think, I don't know if she thought maybe I can ring someone else. or like, I don't know, but obviously I have all the numbers preloaded, bang, and she got to speak to her kids which is lovely and when she came back in, I hope she didn't like, feel guilty about anything but, Helen's so lovely, that whole experience of I'm a Celeb was so lovely but it was kind of marred a little bit by the fact I was panicking thinking is everything alright with the baby and then when I came out.
42:14No Parental Guidance Hosts:And you couldn't say
42:15Jordan Banjo:to the producers like, listen, can you just tell me?
42:17No Parental Guidance Hosts:Once again, like a lesson learned, I was panicking again about seeming difficult or this or that and going, no, I want a phone call when no one else gets one. Like, I need to. But really what I should have said is that whether I can phone or not, someone needs to reach out with my wife. I can't tell you why, but just say, is everything okay? And she'll know what I mean. Just do that. I should have just done that.
42:37Jordan Banjo:Are the toilets that bad? Are they like, prop them in?
42:40No Parental Guidance Hosts:The toilets were so, so bad. Because the first time we went in, the first time I did it, it was sort of like this little bit of like a straw door, which wasn't ideal. The second time I did it, the Legend series, they left a bit of string and some cloth and it was like it was up to you to tie it up and try and cover it guys can I tell I'm quite an awkward toilet goer anyway I'm always I'm not like you know there's some people I've got to go look it is what it is I'm not that way I get very embarrassed which I shouldn't but I do so you wouldn't poo
43:08Jordan Banjo:in front of your wife no
43:10No Parental Guidance Hosts:no I get really awkward about it like see if my wife's in the bathroom I can say it out loud I don't know why but anyone anyone near me I get stage fright like if I'm standing ready to wee I could be weeing if someone walks in bang it'll stop dead I just can't carry on with it. Even with my wife's there. You should talk to Dr.
43:26Jordan Banjo:Acorn. They'll sort you out. It's mental.
43:28No Parental Guidance Hosts:But yeah, so I cannot tell you how awkward it is. Imagine when all you've eaten is rice and beans and then they try and tell you you have to drink enough water because everybody gets constipated the first few days when you're there because you're not eating a lot of the right stuff and then no one's drinking enough either. So everyone starts to get a little bit clogged up. When you can then finally feel that you can finally go to the toilet and you're sat there and the only thing separating you and I don't know, Joe Swash and Carol have all been having a conversation is a piece of cloth like that, which you can see your feet sticking out under and you're just literally pooing in a bucket.
44:04No Parental Guidance Hosts:And they just say like, yeah, I hope I don't have to do the trial later. And you're like, I'm doing a trial right now. If you guys wouldn't mind leaving, it's the most awkward thing ever. It's so awkward. Yeah, that show is not for me. Would you do Strictly?
44:15Jordan Banjo:Could you be allowed to do Strictly?
44:16No Parental Guidance Hosts:I've been asked to do Strictly a couple of times. I think of all shows, that's the one show I wouldn't want to do. Why not? one it goes on for what feels like about two decades you start in the summer and end at Christmas and would that be
44:28Jordan Banjo:a bit unfair though if you went on Strictly with your credentials I don't think so because you're not trained in ballroom
44:33No Parental Guidance Hosts:I'm telling you now I did a like a quick workshop with Oti Mabuse and I said to her I'm going to be awful and she was like don't be stupid we danced for about four minutes and she went wow you really are awful and not joking I have to unpick everything that's natural to even the way like we hold ourselves in our style is the opposite of what you do in ballroom. It's literally opposite. So of course you've got a heads up with stuff like timing, musicality and general movement, of course. But I think the pressure of people expecting you to be good and then being s*** is what really puts me off.
45:09Jordan Banjo:Yeah, but I think that's really endearing.
45:12No Parental Guidance Hosts:Yeah, but I think a lot of the Strictly audience, they're hardcore, aren't they? Like when I watch people, they'll be like, oh, that person went to stagecoach when they were six. It's going, f***ing, I shouldn't be on there. You're like, all right, guys, give them a break. But they really... I understand, like, you're passionate about the show and stuff. But, yeah, I'm just not sure if it's worth... It's lit what I just said.
45:30Jordan Banjo:Don't you think that would be a good advantage on Strictly? You going on? I'd love to see you on Strictly. Because it is on picking what you've learned. And it's still dancing, but it's a whole new technique.
45:41No Parental Guidance Hosts:Yeah, it is very different. I do just think I'd personally... What about you guys? Would you guys do it? Oh, in a heartbeat. Would you like to do Strictly? Oh, God, no, no.
45:47Jordan Banjo:I'd rather do, I'm a celebrity. Would you? What about you?
45:50No Parental Guidance Hosts:If you had to pick one?
45:51Jordan Banjo:Oh, Strictly. Really? A hundred percent. You love Strictly though, don't you? I love Strictly. I love dancing. Bugs, forget it. Like, that's not entertainment for me. I think you'd be well on Strictly. I would love to go on Strictly. You should do it. But I feel like everyone wants to be on Strictly.
46:03No Parental Guidance Hosts:Well, not us too, apparently. Apart from me.
46:05Jordan Banjo:I mean, there's only one person in this room who wants to do it. No, but you're right. It does go on. But when it starts in August, I'm like, Christmas is here. Yeah, yeah. This week we’re joined by the brilliant Jordan Banjo. Diversity icon, radio host, two-time jungle campmate and dad of three who is not afraid to overshare.
From panic-laughing at a positive pregnancy test to getting a vasectomy from a man called Dr Acorn, this episode is honest, chaotic and absolutely hilarious.
Jordan takes us back to becoming a dad at 24. No plan. No friends with kids. No clue. He opens up about laughing for 20 minutes when he found out his wife was pregnant, refusing to talk about it for two months, and the guilt he feels now looking back. He talks about reflux, feeling disconnected in those early months, and the pressure to instantly “bond” when actually what he felt first was responsibility… not fireworks.
We get into the reality of juggling a 3am breakfast radio alarm with three young kids. The night wake-ups. The teamwork. The falling asleep at 8.15pm mid-series. The dad guilt when tour dates clash with school runs. The moment he accidentally sighed when his son tried to talk to him and immediately wanted the ground to swallow him whole.
There’s also a terrifying hospital story when his youngest became septic at just a few months old. The instinct his wife had that something wasn’t right. The fear. The viral meningitis diagnosis. And the reminder that sometimes you have to be the “annoying parent” and ask every question.
And yes, we talk about the vasectomy.
The lockdown cancellation.
The honeymoon surprise pregnancy.
The airport test in Doha.
The shrivel. The tape. The swelling. The Spider-Man moment.
Nothing is off limits.
We also hear about doing I’m A Celebrity twice, crumbling the first time, coming back stronger the second, and cutting his honeymoon short while secretly panicking about an early pregnancy scan back home.
It’s funny, raw and refreshingly honest about the bits dads don’t always say out loud.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, guilty, exhausted, terrified you’re doing it wrong, or laughed inappropriately in a life-changing moment… this one’s for you.
