In short

Kelsey Parker (widow of Tom Parker) shares her pregnancy joy while discussing grief, parenting, and coping with online trolling; she also recounts parenting “fails” and her spiritual signs, plus a segment thanking teachers.

Guest background

Actress, dancer, podcaster, entrepreneur and performing arts school owner. Husband Tom Parker died in 2022; she also lost their baby son Phoenix last summer. She’s now pregnant again and has three children (Aurelia, Bodhi, and Logan mentioned as her middle child).

Key claims

“Living in the now” helps her through grief; time doesn’t exist as people obsess over “right timing.” Sharing her pregnancy is part of her grief advocacy. She says her kids are her purpose and got her through Tom’s darkest times. She believes in signs (clock spinning, salt lamp connection).

Notable examples

TikTok hack to open Prosecco with a knife caused a piece of glass to fly into a children’s party area. Cinema trip where she confronted loud, chatty men and embarrassed her son by rocking chairs. Natural labor story for Phoenix: she felt it was “not going to be okay” and gave birth quickly.

1:30Hello, darling. Hello, Lois. It's so nice to see you again. It's so good to see you. I feel like I haven't seen you for ages. I know. How was your half term? It was, do you know what? Amazing. You went away with the girls, didn't you? I had. The girls trip left the WhatsApp group, Louise. Oh, hallelujah. So I've got amazing friends that I've known since, like, primary school, secondary school. but I had two nights of like no responsibility and I know I'm very privileged and lucky that I was able to have two nights away from my kids but that is the first girls trip I've had like that since being a mum and it's so needed I didn't need to worry the next day about getting up and changing Annabelle's nappy so sterilizing dummies or um a drop-off pit I mean

2:16Hannah:it was but we're still looking at like the ring cameras and seeing constantly checking the baby monitor yeah and I was singing to Annabelle through the monitor there you go to settle a couple of times we never really switch off never really and I'd set everything out like meals were prepped but my cup is full nice happy yeah and we need that yeah what about you tell me about your my hat turn was lovely my husband left halfway through it oh my god Louise because he went to go to another where the hell is my husband and where was he I actually did do a reel on it so we went to Greece and my husband left went to Germany to go and watch Crystal Palace but what a lad they did win the European la la la la something cup and he came straight back and yeah he was gone for 36 hours I was with you know I had my brother and my sister and you know so I my village was there I had help um and I was I was angry weeks prior because I just thought how can you leave our family holiday um and we had an argument in the street and i do understand why he went i get it and what did you do louise i booked a trip to ibiza so everything that you've just said yeah i'm like that's coming my way yeah um yeah you know when you say to your partner it's not tit for tat oh it is right i'm gonna book girls because now now that they've won this European something cup.

3:42Hannah:Yeah. They are now in the next league. Yeah. So they're going to be playing a lot. So he's basically said to me, I'm going to be away every other Thursday in Europe. And I'm like, oh. But he's like so passionate about them. Yeah, he is. Isn't he? He is. So he goes to all the home and away matches. Yes, he does. Yes, he does. And your kids like football, don't they? Yeah. So he does take a child with him and they do love it together. It's lovely. Can you not take all three of them though? No. No. Just one. Just one each time. Just one. Just one. But anyway. Have you got any fails? Do you know what?

4:23Hannah:I do. Of course. But this fail, I actually, this came back to life in my memory when I was on holiday. and it was my friend's son's birthday party and they were turning six and the birthday party was outside in a park. Lovely. And the mum bought some Prosecco with her. Yeah. Brilliant. Ledge. Ledge. And we could not for the life of us open up the cork. Like it just wouldn't come out. It was completely and utterly just like not coming out. No one could open it. and then I remembered a hack that I saw on TikTok and it does buff and to open up a bottle of Prosecco or champagne uh you can get a knife and there was a knife because there was a knife for the cake yeah so I said have you got have you got a knife yes so I was like I've seen this on TikTok I don't know if it works but I'm going to give it a go and you grab the bottle and you tap the the bottom of the bottle twice with the knife.

5:30Hannah:And then the neck twice. And then you slice off the neck and it goes, and it works and the bottle is open. But then what happens is this glass just flew and landed somewhere in our area with like 26 year olds in bare feet.

5:53Hannah:so then we had to spend the next rest of the party looking for this bit of glass and kind of shuffling all the kids like don't move oh we don't and so it was parents just in the grass rifling through grass didn't really drink any prosecco worried if someone's gonna cut their feet yeah so it's a great hack it does work um but i don't recommend doing it in a park around children. I wonder, are there any other hacks? If anyone's got a hack, can you comment on this video of how to open a bottle if you don't have a bottle opener? Yeah, but it has to be not like, yeah, like a champagne bottle. We know when the cork's supposed to pop out.

6:32Yeah.

6:32Hannah:I don't think you can do it with, it needs to be a fizzy bottle. Yeah. Hence the banging and the popping and the bubbles and pressure releasing. So I felt a bit bad about that. Anyway, you must have a fail. Tell me. I do. um i took my middle child to the cinema last week and i maybe this is me understanding that i'm either due on i have a hormone imbalance or i'm approaching perimenopause i'm not sure yet but when logan was like i really want to watch the new star star wars movie it's his birthday um soon so i was like right bradley was at a golf competition annabelle was at nursery i was like let's have a couple of hours just me and you because i feel like i never really get one-to-one time with him so i went to the cinema obviously i took like my own sweets made little packups i was like i'm my own cups of tea i'm not buying at the cinema because it's so expensive sat down and he was like put his um 3d glasses on he was like mommy this is like the best day ever and gave it got him some sushi he was loving life sushi yeah he had a decaf coffee he loved yeah he loves it he's since he's been three years old he loves a tuna and onion panini and a decaf coffee and people are like are you actually joking i'm like no he's a ledge he'll try anything like he'll go in the fridge and eat like a red pepper or a green pepper and he's like oh just can i just have some cucumbers and he's the kid that when he goes to like like holiday camps and stuff he will swap his chocolate bars for somebody else that's got like cucumbers and peppers and carrots i don't like you very much anymore but my other two don't do that they hate they only eat beige food but it's just my middle child so um we sat there and he was like this is great and then three guys came in and sat like right in front of us and they smelt a bit and I was like um okay fine whatever it was only us in the cinema yeah and they were like rocking their chairs and being a bit annoying and then they started Louise they started crunching these crisps you know like the really crunchy loud ones now I've never been bothered by it before it sounds like a little very menopausal and I was like why and then they got their phones out and they were like whatsapping and they hadn't put the phones on silent and they were talking no and their film started and I was like I'm really not happy about this and Logan I actually got him some sound cancelling headphones which sounds ridiculous when you go to the cinema but he struggles with the sound at the cinema so he was a bit oblivious to it and it really annoyed me so um I got the chair and like shook it a bit did you yeah I was like excuse me and the guy sort of turned around I was like excuse me I was like would you mind not talking like I'm trying to listen to the film it's really off-putting oh my god you're so good I know so how old are these people these three blokes they were in their 40s oh right okay like really talking yeah but i thought to myself should we move yeah and then i was like no logan sat down like they shouldn't be and then their phone kept pinging and pinging and then they were crunching and crunching i could feel myself getting like rage yeah so then what i did i got one foot on that chair and hands on either all the chairs and i was like rocking the chair excuse me and they're all like i am so impressed guys can we just keep it down or can you go and sit somewhere else please because this is unacceptable oh my god you parented 40 year olds yeah and then they were like oh sorry sorry sorry like that oh i'm so pleased that they were sorry and then not should i go and get the 16 year old like acne covered staff member to come and help me um and then the bit that really made me feel bad logan took his sound cancelling headphones off and then pulled his 3d glasses down like looked at me he's like mommy that was a little bit embarrassing for me.

10:23Hannah:Joining us on the sofa today is an actress, dancer, podcaster, brilliant entrepreneur and performing arts school owner who has been through so much in just a few short years. From the devastating loss of our husband Tom in 2022 to tragically losing her baby son Phoenix just last summer, she has faced unimaginable heartache. But through all the heartache she's kept that brilliant infectious energy of hers becoming a beacon of hope for widows and grieving parents everywhere here to talk raw unfiltered grief and modern parenting please welcome kelsey parker kelsey welcome welcome to the site well thank you for being here we love that you're here and first of all congratulations thank you you are pregnant yes having a baby having a baby can you say how far along you are yeah what can you say what do you want to say i don't know what can i say what am i allowed to say what you can say whatever you want to say um but we're just delighted we're delighted yeah no and i'm really excited i'm so happy yeah um i was actually scrolling last night on uh instagram and i you know when you see something come up and you're like yes this is amazing and i feel like I'm quite overwhelmed with the response because I knew people would be happy for me, but I didn't realize this happy.

11:46And I think with Phoenix, people were actually a bit horrible to me. And I know that you're quite shocked. I knew that you'd be shocked. But like I did have a few like horrible comments and some trolling when I fell pregnant with Phoenix. But people and I was a bit unsure whether I was actually going to release the news about being pregnant. and having a baby because actually I am all about frequency and vibrations and it's all to do with time. People are obsessed with timings. Yeah. Like, okay, Tom's died. When's the right time to meet someone? But time doesn't exist because we're only here once.

12:23So Tom could have died. Who knew I could have died seven days after Tom? Like you don't know how long you've got here. And if you're in a process of grieving, like a day to you probably.

This is how I want to live it. why have other people got to have an opinion okay i'm putting my life out there online but you don't need to have your negative energy and opinion on my life because i'm quite happy living my life absolutely and i think when you have been through something so traumatic you know sharing is helping other people but this is how i'm dealing with grief you're not necessarily going to deal with deal with it the same yeah so for me actually it was a massive deal that i was putting out that i'm having a baby because like I said I did get trolling and how do you deal with the with the trolling like if we go back to and how do you deal do you reply do you I don't know I actually generally don't care yeah like I just think more about that person you're such a positive person I mean I have to say anyway like I know you're kind of off camera anyway and you are always so positive and full of hope and optimism how do you how do you do it like anyone listening who's going through grief any advice like what what do you do and i think people might think like like you said you you've seen me off camera we've been to places together and events like i generally am a positive person like this is actually me like 100 being authentic and i think other people struggle with that and they think oh my god how is she like that positive but i've always been extremely positive i think even going back to meeting tom when i was 19 and being able to be with a pop star like not a lot of women would actually be able to and young girls would be able to be with a pop star who you know they were massive the wanted yeah yeah they were and you got with him before he was famous didn't you well i met him on his first night out in london yeah when he was he they didn't have a name yeah i was like oh yeah i'm in a band and i was like oh are you i said what's your name then he was like no i've not got a name yet i was like yeah all right yeah yeah i'm a pilot yeah i always talk about this my friends used to go out and get a table and pretend that they were footballers so i was like my friends have done it so clever so i was a bit like are you actually in a band yeah i've got no name i was like yeah sweet band love yeah yeah i think it even goes back to that because again my friends would say to me oh you're the only person that could go out of a pop star like are you not worried that he's gonna cheat on you i said why am i actually worried about you know that that you're putting that out there like also tom was that person that he'd probably had to message me to ask if it was a good idea yeah i think it's a good idea this girl's going on to me uh no tom don't do it but how how do you how have you dealt with the grief with with tom and having such young kids i think obviously my kids are my purpose and they massively got me through the the darkest of times even when tom got diagnosed they got me out of bed in the morning and Tom got me out of bed and it was like, what are we doing?

15:58And again, even with Tom's journey of being sick, there was only positivity. We were known as the positive parkers. And how did you feel leaving the hospital, knowing the diagnosis, you're 35 weeks pregnant, you're thinking like you're caring for him, but at the same time thinking like, how did you feel in that moment? I thought, God, this is a s***, isn't it? Yeah, God. And how old was your other? So Aurelia was only 15 months. So I've only got a 15-month age gap between them. But as she knew, straight away we got home, she was like running around the house just being an absolute loon. And I thought, yeah, you know that something's happening.

16:37And then obviously when, you know, the time came with Tom, like Tom did so well. I mean, with the fight, it was unbelievable what he actually did. Everything that was on sort of his bucket list, he ticked it off. Like, I said, what do you want to do? Like, anything he wanted to do, I'd be like, right, How can we facilitate getting you there? Even down to he wanted to do the tour with the wanted. But over the Christmas, he'd gone like he deteriorated quite a lot. So we flew out to Spain and did three weeks treatment in Spain to get him like up on his feet to take on the tour. And you're doing that with a newborn or two young, very young children.

17:18Yeah, Bodhi was just turned a year then. And when, you know, I'm thinking like from your point of view, doing the night feeds up in the night, thinking my life is going to really change over the next year. Were you scared or? I never thought any further than the day that we were doing. Like the next, like, let's do this day. Like I never forward thought into like. That's good advice. Yeah. What's going to happen? Like living in the now.

17:44Hannah:Yeah, living in now. Because also you, none of us know. The only thing we are guaranteed in this lifetime is we are going to die. that is all we're going to pay taxes you are going to be yeah yeah absolutely but you're going to get you're going to be born and you're going to die yeah but we don't talk about that we don't talk about death and it's like the elephant in the room do you have moments where you look at the kids and think oh that you really remind me of your dad and you have a moment where you feel really emotional oh my god every day and when i say like oh we talk about tom every day like not a day goes by that we don't talk about Tom in our house.

18:18And what sort of stuff do you talk about? Like just everything with the children because they are, obviously they are half him. So things they do, the faces, the expressions, they are their dad and we talk about that. And you know, Will is amazing because he's so supportive. He wants, he loves Tom. Like he loves everything about Tom. He's not coming to the family and being like, all right, let's put Tom in the box and now I'm this person. but Will lost his dad when he was 21 so we talk about Will's dad dying and you know we've gone through so much as a family unit now so um and we talk about parenting fails in this podcast was

18:56Hannah:there anything that Tom did that you look back on and go oh my god what what what were you thinking well I just say to Aurelia now I'm like you and your dad would have gone head to head like there's And though Tom was very extreme and what he actually, for someone who was such a little s*** growing up, what he actually expected from children, I was like, you are just ridiculous what you think that they can actually do. And then when I actually had Aurelia, he rang my mum at like three o 'clock in the morning and she was like, all right, Tom, is everything okay? He went, yeah, I think you're going to have to come up.

19:29I think we're going to have to change shifts here. I think I've got to go home. No. I was like, you are something else. Actually, when I was in labour, with Aranea, I had preeclampsia. Again, I've just not had like, and every birth has been something. There's been something. Yeah. Then when they took me down to theatre, he went to my mum. All right, then. She went, what? He went, are you going to go with her? She went, no, I think you should go, Tom, because you actually are the dad. I love how guys just think, oh, no, I don't need to do that. It got tough as well, wouldn't it? It got a bit of suffering.

20:01It was like, oh, God, I've got to. Yeah, yeah. And then at one point, obviously, I was breastfeeding. He went to the midwife and gave her a bottle. And I was like, right, just give me the baby and maybe you should go home. Because you are driving me mad. Yeah. You are driving me nuts.

20:15Hannah:They do drive you crazy. When we got home, he was just so like, Tom was just so extreme. I can't explain what Tom was like. He was literally milking me like a cow to get all the clostrum for a raya. And then when we actually went to the hospital, we'd gone back. because obviously where I had preeclampsia it was like my blood pressure and whatever else. And they were like, oh, how many syringes have you given to the baby? And he was like, oh, 20. They went, what? He went, yeah, we've given the baby 20 syringes. I went, yeah, that's what we would suggest for you to do. But he was messaging every breastfeeding expert.

20:48In the end I said, you need to just actually leave me alone. I said, because you're messaging all these people, then they're DMing me. I'm actually doing great. Yeah. Like, why are you getting involved for? That's so sweet though. that he wanted to be.

21:01Hannah:It is. Like so involved. I remember breastfeeding for the first time and not realising that it can make you really thirsty. Oh, yeah, yeah. Oh, so thirsty. And I remember like saying to Jesse, I think maybe like two weeks in or something when you're constantly breastfeeding. And I was like, baby, just get me some water. Like every time I always forget to have my own water. And I'd be like, get me water. And he'd like roll his eyes. Oh, yeah. And I'm like, I'm sorry. Is this too much for you to give me some water whilst I'm keeping our child alive? of like what is wrong with you yeah and i i think the breastfeeding like that you do get that time away that you can go i'm just gonna go and breastfeed oh it's the best yeah it's like especially when you have more than one it's like when i had annabelle i was like i'm 100 % breastfeeding on my third because that means that andy is gonna have to put the two boys in the bath so get them ready for bed it's you it's time out it's time that's why i'm so pro breastfeeding it's time to yourself and also it's the organization like i don't know how people get that organized with bottles and whatever it was you can just walk out the door you can walk out the door and go right i've got my boobs like whenever you're not having to like mix and i know it doesn't work for everybody i struggled with my first to breastfeed it was a real difficult journey because i don't think people talk about it enough exactly my mom is brutal right and she went this will be the hardest job you do well actually being a parent is the hardest job you ever do second hardest job and she went and what you've got to think about it is it's like a new job and if you start the new job and your uniform is to wear a pair of shoes and you get blisters on your shoes you have to go through that pain you have to wear the shoes because you can't change the shoes so just get on with it and go through it that's great advice but my mama had so she had my older brother when she was 19 and then had my youngest brother when she was 41 so she's gone through like all the wow and how many of you are there there's four of us four boys and me ah but yeah my mum is just i think again with the strength and stuff i think it comes a lot from my mum yeah because even with tom she was like what are you worrying about him dying like it can only be what it can be anyway so come on get on with it like that's my mum's attitude yeah come on get on with it whatever life throws at you just have to keep going forward on your journey yeah we want to talk to you quickly about your campaign you gave birth to phoenix last year yes tell us your story oh what with phoenix is an unbelievable story but i have to experience these things because maybe i am an an advocate for women because literally i was going surely this is a film like this can't be right so i went into natural labor with phoenix i was at a birthday party and kids birthday party and you were 38 weeks 39 weeks 39 weeks right and i was a bit like oh oh but again what i think when you're induced with because the other two i was induced with i didn't really have an actual like i gave like natural labor but when you're induced it happens so quickly so you don't really know what them steps are for a natural labor if that makes sense yeah yeah totally um so i had got and then i'd got home and i then i basically called my mom and stuff and was like i think you should get around here and before i knew it phoenix was there because will was at his friend's house and i rang him and i was like like you you need to come home and uh he when he came back he started filling the birthing pool up but it was too i knew that it was too late because of your body just does my body did what it was naturally did it i just intuitively knew that it wasn't gonna be okay jesus how do you feel talking about this now When I talk about it, I get really like a weird feeling inside.

24:40It's like I could almost like sit here and shake. But I don't think you realise how many people you are picking up, helping, supporting.

24:50Hannah:If anyone's watching and is experiencing this, hopefully, I mean, you know, you don't want anyone to experience this. But I'm sure, Kelsey, you've helped so many women out there who might be experiencing this and just. Well, it's the way that you're talking about grief and loss and you're talking about hope and your positive outlook. It's like that will resonate in touch with so many people within our like NPG community. Like however you feel, advocate for yourself. because sometimes a mother's intuition we know yeah with you and will i mean with a lot of relationships and experience like that is like make or break isn't it and obviously i presume it's made you stronger how how was he after that experience i think it is really tough for dads i think they're so forgotten about like you've been through so much yeah yet you're so positive you've got like such a positive energy about you um I can only imagine like with your kids where you sort of rationalize things and it's like I bet I bet you won't go home and be like you know really upset and sad I feel like you just go home like right okay what's for dinner then well let's you know let's crack on if you've got homework and yeah life life continues and that's a really sad difficult part about grief isn't it what's parenting like for you now like the kids excited about the baby coming and the kids are really excited but i know that they have got that element of fear and you are very spiritual as well very you're very very spiritual and i love that but we talked about that um before we started recording and it's just i'm quite spiritual i like to think that i am yeah here we go oh yeah well there we go um what what are the spiritual things that have happened to you like are there certain things that we see messages that maybe we're not quite picking up on.

26:44Oh, I get signs all the time. Someone messaged me the other day like, oh, I had this dream. Oh, crazy lady. I thought, you are not a crazy lady to me. Like, Tom connects to us through our clock in the kitchen. No way. Really? Why? What happens? The clock just starts spinning. People are like, oh, it'll be the batteries. It's like, no, you don't understand. And you just know. If you see that, you're like, that's Tom. Yeah, like we was reading a radio school report and then the clock started spinning. No. Yeah, it's like he's there. He's like, I'm with you. I'm here. Like, I can just feel Tom anyway with me.

27:16Yeah. And then also I have a salt lamp that Phoenix connects to me with. No, it's lovely. It's lovely. I love it. But I just get signs all the time. There's so many signs. But we just, again, we live such busy lives that you don't look for signs. Of course. Or you'll just be like, oh, it's nothing. Yeah. And kind of brush over it. There's always a sign. They're always trying to connect with us. And what a comfort for you as well, given what you've been through. to know that like Tom's there with you, but with his kids. It must be really comforting. What really broke me actually is that we were like, do you know what?

27:54If you think about it, Will's here looking after Tom's kids and Tom's there looking after Will's child. Oh my God, he's starting to make me really upset. But that's such a nice way to think about it. And actually a medium said to me, oh, Tom's there. He's holding a guy. A guy's there holding a baby. And he's waving with, I can't remember where it was, left or right arm. But Tom, obviously with his illness, had lost the movement in one of his arms. So he was like showing me, I've got the movement back now. I'm all good. And I've got Phoenix. You've got nothing to worry about. Oh, my God. That's beautiful.

28:32Yeah. And that's like, I think you have to find comfort in life, don't you? Absolutely. Whatever works for you. You know, people might be listening to this going, just lock her up. get the straight jacket out like she's but that gives me comfort and that gets me through each day and do you ever have those days you know with the kids where you think like you know if they're kicking off they're not listening and do you ever sometimes think oh my god this is so tough like because you've been through an experience like and you obviously tom's passed away and you'll be thinking well if your dad was here he'd probably be saying this or he would but do you think in your head subconsciously what tom's reaction if they're being naughty or not listening Yeah, sometimes I think that, but I do think that being a parent is the hardest job that you'll ever have to do.

29:13Oh my God, yeah. You're not wrong. I think every time they do something, you just think, oh my God, this is really, really hard. Like, being a parent is tough. And do you have that pressure to think, what would Tom do in this situation? What would Tom say? Or do you feel like you're so in tune with him that you're parenting in a way that he would be like, yeah, I do that as well? Oh no, I think we would have really clashed. I don't think we would have clashed in parenting. however I am trying my best to bring them up how he would have wanted and I've really worked so hard to get them into like they're both at private school he really wanted them to go to private school so yeah I'm now working my ass up to put them through that because that's what he wanted would you send your kids to performing arts school like you went oh right yeah she's she should get a place now like come on yeah my daughter's the same get her in there I feel

30:04Hannah:like your six-year-old and my six-year-old because they sound very they sound very alike um talking to schools like do you remember like a great teacher that you had growing up well I think for me I went so I went to like a normal like state primary school and it was fantastic it was really really big I just like love people so it was a six class intake with 30 kids in each class so I went from that to then auditioning so I went to a Saturday school and every Saturday and it was Italia Conti so I used to go from nine o 'clock in the morning till five o 'clock every Saturday and I loved it and we did dancing singing acting the lot oh wow and the headmaster of that school was actually the headmaster at uh the the main school they call it the main school so he said to my mum I think she needs to audition to go to the main school.

31:03So I did the audition. I got a place when I was 11. And I went from that school from six, you know, sixth class form to nine children being in my year. Oh, my God. So it was like such a huge jump. I knew the whole school, basically. So we were like, so we were the juniors. That's what they called the secondary school. It was year seven to year 11. Yeah. And then it had a three year, like, what's it called? A diploma course that you could do. So, yeah, I went at 11 and I never looked back and it was the best thing I could have ever done. Because I think if I'd gone to a normal state secondary school, I probably would have been chucked out.

31:40Because I was very much like a radio. I was really, really loud. Would probably be up dancing. Whereas, obviously, the teachers knew that, like, even when we did the educational part of it, they knew what children they were teaching. so they would like like make excuses for us like or they would like go lightly you know when we're all like being over the top or like it being really dramatic but yeah I think for me and teachers it was so inspiring being at that school because you'd have like teachers that literally performed in the west end the night before and then they were coming taking the class oh my god but it was the best place for me and my childhood memories of school are incredible and how long were you at that school for i went all the way to 19 did you so i went from 11 to 19 and that again with uh people used to say like obviously even when tom died because there were you know when you read out what i've actually done i have done all them things and i used to say to tom when he was alive like honey uh i'm actually more qualified than i'm not qualified for your job than you are because tom didn't do that that wasn't the path he went down he was a boyfriend Bolton and picked up a guitar when he was 16 and thought I'm all right this and could sing and got in to take that tribute band and from there he got into the wanted like his path was completely different but I actually had the qualifications god damn what's lovely is that this

33:04Hannah:episode has been sponsored by Tesco who are supporting national thank a teacher campaign and it's such a lovely campaign to do so if you could thank any teacher who would it be and why They were all so different and they all brought different elements in. Like we had the best acting teachers. We had the best, like I honestly had the best time at school. I love hearing that. I do. I think you always remember a good teacher. Yeah. Who was your favorite teacher? Well, when I was in year five and year six, I had a husband and wife and they were called Mr. and Mrs. Regular. I thought she was joking when she said this as well.

33:45Hannah:And they were phenomenal together. and I still remember how calm but like but stern enough so we all didn't mess about they were brilliant and I just will always remember them what about your teachers um in the West End yeah well we we literally have the best like obviously at being at Conti like they the teachers were like phenomenal there was uh one teacher called Sean Perkins and everyone wanted to be in Sean's routine yeah then there was another teacher called pat d and she did like a certain style of dance yeah like literally it was this it was called like was the spiral i think it was called everyone wanted to be in pat d's routine pat d pat d pat d if you're listening give us a comment pat d and then like and subscribe yeah and then there was an acting teacher called dennis and he was just absolutely outrageous and i think even like i think my mum going from like a normal state school to then rocking up for parents evening at that school she was like oh my god yeah wow because obviously even the feedback they'd give it wouldn't be like oh kelsey's talking in class it was like oh we love kelsey she's just such a out of box yeah and it's like they wanted you to be like that appreciate that's what they saw in you you don't have a problem whereas i think arania is gonna that's gonna be the best place for her because like the feedback i get a lot from her well she's so emotional as well and dramatic and i try and tell her school i'm like my daughter she is dramatic so you've got to be quite firm with her yes and if you're in that type of school where it's like very like academic focused it's like yeah but she's like you know too chatty or she's too emotional we're actually uh like a theater a theater school it'd be like and this is amazing this is what we need it's getting kids in the right moment is called miss uh oh my god I was going to say her name wrong.

35:37Oh, Miss Alda. And she is so, so nice. She's literally like Miss Honey. I was just about to say, I was like, oh, I love Miss Honey. She is like Miss Honey and she's so lovely.

35:48Hannah:Yeah. But when I went to parents' evening, I said to her, like, you need to actually be a little bit strict with her. She was like, oh. I was like, yeah. I said, because if a radio can smell weakness, like she loves Miss Alda so much. And I think that will be a teacher that sticks with her. That's lovely. When you get a good teacher, there is nothing better for your children. My, I'm actually going to give a shout out to Inga's teacher. Her name is Miss Ford Brooks. Yeah. And she's wonderful. And she just, I get pulled aside in the playground a lot of pick up. Can I just have a quick word? Oh, and you're just like, oh.

36:25Hannah:And I'm like, what now? And she's so lovely. And I said on an episode, I think over Christmas time, she came up to me. She could probably see that I was struggling a little bit. We had like, you know, a few issues at school with some other girls and stuff. And they're so young. You're like, why is this happening now? No, I was actually shocked at the girl situation. That happened in year one. I was like, when did, like, when? Did we have it at that age? I don't understand. This scares me because my daughter's two. Yeah. But I've got two boys and a girl. So this scares me. Does your daughter kind of go in and out of friendships?

Read the full transcript

36:57Hannah:Well, actually, she really struggled last year. And then they split the class. So basically, there's two classes in the year. And they muddled everyone around. And we sort of hit the jackpot. Oh, that's nice. Oh, there's nothing better than hitting that jackpot. She doesn't come home. But I found it quite intense last year because it was like every day. Like falling out and upset and that sort of thing. And I just was like. Yeah, it's really. And sometimes it's like a few odd children and then they just can't get away from them either. And Aradia, she's very much like me. that if she feels like someone is being wronged or she will stand up for her friends.

37:37Good for her.

37:38Hannah:She's a strong woman. Yeah. She's not going to have it. And she won't have people be horrible to her. I wouldn't have to worry about that with her being bullied because she would be like, sorry. Yeah. My daughter's the same. But then when they go head to head with the other child that's the big personality, then it's like, oh, I'm not playing with that person. I'm not playing with that. Yeah, yeah. but this Miss Fordbrook she came up to me one day at the school gates and she went are you alright but you know he's like no I'm actually not alright you know just like you know and you can feel your face just go bleh yeah I cried and you're just like I'm so sorry you're like am I okay am I you're like no I'm actually really not okay and you're looking at me again maybe I'm not I'm going to thank her actually she's going to be my thank a teacher you can do it at thankateacher.co.uk she's going to be mine god mine was my uh PE teacher from school and she was called all right miss huff and um yeah and she yeah and you know what she used to stay behind and do legs bums and tums with us three days a week for like half an hour and she taught me because I do like personal training and she taught me loads of stuff that I still know and use today yeah about progressive practices and just you know just about commitment and core strength and it sounds really ridiculous but she gave up her time and I remember once on a Friday she was like oh um can we do you mind if we finish like five minutes earlier I think it was like quarter past five and school finished at like half three and she said it's just I've got like a wedding party to go to this evening but I didn't want to like let you girls down oh and she was quite young and I was like thinking what she didn't have to do that today she just cancelled it and like finished when the other teachers all left and and I remember she was like locking up the PE department and I saw like rushing that you guys loved it yeah there was like 10 of us girls and we just I felt like it was like quite an impressionable time and I think it was more like therapy because she used to talk to us like 14 15 like girls starting their periods and it all being like oh no one talks about it but she did on that note do you have any parenting fails that you can share with us parenting fails I mean the list is endless isn't it brilliant letting the kids watch an ipad's not a parenting fail that's part of our That is part of parenting.

39:54No, I don't actually do the iPads, girls. Sorry. Do you not? No technology. You don't have any iPads? No.

39:59Hannah:Good for you. Good for you. So you actually parent? I actually parent. What do you do when you need a p*** though? What do you do on airplanes? It sounds like your daughter is like on it though. Yeah. What about when you're flying on a plane? That is the only, they're only allowed it at that point. They have an iPad that comes out for flight. Yeah, fine. Which they will watch a downloaded Netflix. Yes. Other than that, they do not have it. Yeah. I did a debate the other day with another influencer about this topic. But yeah, I'm no screens. However, only that works for us. Like each their own.

40:33Like you do you. Whatever gets you through the day. Aurelia actually verbalized to me that it does funny things to her brain. So how can I then? There you go. How can I give her an iPad when she actually said, when I get off it, it does funny things to my brain? Wow. And she gets really angry. But only could sit there all day long and have the iPad and not change. Aurelia can't. And then I can't parent them differently. And the first thing you always say is like, right, that's it. No more iPads. No more screen time because you're behaving like this. Whereas we don't have it. Even when I go out for a meal, like.

41:02No, we don't. No, we don't.

41:03Hannah:We don't. I mean, we did when they were younger, younger. Yeah. But now they're all at an age where they don't need to look at a screen when they're eating. So we don't have that now. And it is really nice to just chat and play cards and stuff. It is really lovely. I think people are shocked though. They're like, oh, what do you do? Take coloring? What did you used to do as a kid? Yeah. And is it like watching TV and stuff at home? We are the activity house. So we do a lot of activities. Like it said, I run a performing arts school. So we do that during the week. And Aurelia is in a gymnastics squad.

41:36So she trains three times a week gymnastics. And then basically every night she does a double activity. And sometimes Bodhi does a double activity. So mine is just driving around being a taxi driver. but I want them to be able to do everything and I think you have to growing up you have to have loads of strings and then go right what is my what's the instrument I'm going to play

42:00Hannah:any parenting fails that include being in a car again I have many oh yeah and I just think when you're driving around in the car it's the literal arguments and that and you know when other people get road rage now I like think you don't know what that person's doing in that car yeah like when you're driving and she's going oh yesterday we drove back from the caravan she's car sick she's like I'm gonna be sick I'm gonna be sick and then she might have turned around and looked at her brother in the wrong way and poked her tongue out she's like that then it's like can I have a sweet let me just try and do it with one arm pass one back to you as I'm driving the car like it's hard work isn't it it is hard work it's when they say things to you when you're in the middle like reading a situation where you'll be like cooking dinner sorting the washing out trying to iron a shirt you're on the phone to someone to reply ringing the doctors or something and then the kids walk in they're like can i uh yeah make some slime yeah and you're like sorry when you're on the phone yeah they come and ask for things that they know yeah that there's no way that you would ever allow it yeah like can i can i get the ipad out yeah so i'm not gonna have a row with you while someone like yes a work call oh, that's how he wants to have that.

43:16So you're like, yeah, go on, go on. Yeah. And they're like, oh, can I have this? Can I have an ice cream? It's like f***ing nine o 'clock in the morning. No. As if you're going to be like, yeah, sweetheart, do you want two? Yeah, yeah. Just take the box. Do you want an Easter egg? Take that as one. They do it at that time when they know that you're going to, if they not, they read the situation. They're so intelligent, aren't they? They're like.

43:34Hannah:I've been head down the toilet throwing up and my son's come in going, mum, can you tie my shoelaces? And I'm like, first of all, I'm being sick. secondly ask how I am thirdly your dad's there yeah so yeah it literally is that but they don't care it's been so nice having you on we're kind of running out I know I feel like we could chat all day I'm so sorry that you've been through such experiences and everything from especially like what you've just talked about um but it's it's so uh reassuring for like I said earlier like for a lot of women like so thank you yeah for talking about it and thank you for sharing with us.

44:12Hannah:Is there a last piece of advice you give to parents going through grief? Going through grief. Well I just think like I said as parents being a parent is the hardest job you'll ever have to do. Doing it with grief if you can get through that then you can actually get through and think in life. And everyone should be following Kelsey online if you're not ready. We're a beacon of gorgeous hope and inspiration. I'll get home with her followers I'll be happy. Sorted.
