Friday's jobs report from the government unlikely to be released because of the government shutdown in D.C., but we're still expecting a look at the U.S. employment picture. We'll get that today. ADP private payroll data for September due out at 8.15 Eastern time. Congress expecting an addition of 45 ,000 jobs last month. That's versus 54 ,000 back in August. Meantime, the White House pulling the nomination now of economist E.J. Antony to lead the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
33an administration official saying President Trump plans to announce a new nominee, quote, very soon. The president nominated D 'Antoni after firing the previous head of the BLS and accusing her, if you remember, without evidence of manipulating that data. That became a big brouhaha. We discussed that for weeks at the time. He's got time. Well, now he might have time. He's got time. Now he might have time. Take your time. Find a good guy. Find a good person because we don't need anything this Friday. Meantime, by the way, it's going to put a lot more importance on all these other third-party data.
07If we get any of that stuff. Meantime, Tesla raising lease prices for all its cars in the U.S. That follows an expiration of the$7 ,500 federal tax credit. Tesla has used the credits to help make leases more attractive to customers. And Boeing is in line now to receive a contract worth as much as$120 million to build replacements for the massive bombs that the U.S. dropped on Iran's nuclear facilities in June. That's according to a Bloomberg report, and that could move that stock. And artificial intelligence startup Character AI says it has now removed Disney characters from its chatbot platform after the studio asked it to stop using its copyrighted characters without authorization.
47Disney had sent a cease and desist letter to Character AI in which it accused that company of systematically reproducing and monetizing Disney's protected characters, which raises a whole new issue. I don't know if you saw, there's a fight going on in Hollywood between OpenAI and the entire industry about this whole sense that OpenAI is saying, look, we will have an opt-out policy, not an opt-in policy, meaning if you want the Disney characters in our model, it's not like you opt in. We are just going to do it, and if you want to raise your hand and opt out, But then the question is, are you opting out of, do you have to go film by film, TV show by TV show?
27That's ridiculous. Do you opt out of your entire library? We're gonna take everything. Do you have to tell them what your library is? I mean, it's a very complicated situation. I mean, a lot of IP is either gonna be worth less or you're gonna have to figure out a way. Yeah. Like are the seven full-sized magical creatures in part of this, or did they never come, that did not come to pass? Oh, stop. It's like... They were all six feet tall. The Snow White and the seven six feet... I mean, the open AI is a big deal, not that. It was Snow White and the seven fully six feet tall magical creatures. You're a magical creature.
06It's just much better. We're going to be back later today with an all-new Squawk Pod, our daily podcast featuring the best of Squawk Box. Check it out wherever you get your podcasts and listen anytime. We'll be right back.
