0:01Hi, I'm Joe Kernan, co-host of Squawk Box. Sitting in with me today is Melissa Lee. And this is five things to know before the opening bell. Is five enough? I don't know. I mean, you can make an argument that ten would be better. Would six be better? Can you get all of the day's most important stories in five? I think it depends on the day. I don't think you can do it without six. Now, seven's too many. With the Verona, now maybe you can argue that this should be six. Maybe you can argue that was our six. Or maybe it replaces the bottom of... I think seven's too many. It's too many to remember.

0:32But is four... You want to be concise. I mean, if you said 30, that's just overwhelming. Is four enough? Like eight-minute abs. You can't get... I mean, if he gets only seven minutes, you might not get the same definition. Nine minutes is counterproductive because you get too tired. It's like the perfect... It's going to be two things if you don't start reading. It is true. All right, we do have five things to know ahead of today's opening bell. SpaceX is discussing plans to raise money and sell insider shares in a deal that would value the company at around$400 billion. The Financial Times reported that the deal was sent to investors yesterday.

1:07Sources tell CNBC that Starbucks' China unit has attracted offers for a potential stake sale valuing the China business at up to$10 billion. Potential bidders include the Carlyle Group, KKR, and Centurion Capital, which owns a majority stake in China's Luckin Coffee. Boeing reported deliveries of 60 airplanes last month, the most since December of 2023. That brings the company's second quarter delivery total to 150 airplanes. The company is set to report full second quarter results on July 29th. The TSA confirming yesterday that it will let many travelers leave their shoes on at U.S. airport checkpoints.

1:44Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the end of the 20-year-old rule at a news conference citing advances in screening technology. And Philadelphia's largest municipal union reached a tentative deal with the city early this morning to end a labor strike that has halted garbage collection since July 1st. Philadelphia's mayor said the new deal is for three years. It is believed to include 9 % in raises spread out over three years. Give them what they need. I mean, with the heat, too, that can't be pleasant. No. So thank goodness. We'll be back later today with an all-new Squawk Pod, our daily podcast featuring the best of Squawk Box.
