In short
England women’s 3-0 ODI series win over Ireland, Izzy Wong’s maiden England 5-wicket haul, and her bowling approach. The show also covers cricket banter, listener questions, and a comedic “emergency squad rotation” quiz about wholesale changes for England vs Pakistan. Key claim: Joe Root has shaved one arm (right arm) to help with painful elbow taping and easier tape removal while it regrows.
Guests/backgrounds
Izzy Wong is an England women’s bowler who just took 5/33 in an ODI vs Ireland; she discusses picking her bowling end and disciplined “hit the stumps/bowl dots” tactics under Charlotte Edwards’ era. Hosts include Felix White (covering MLB in New York), Jimmy Anderson (Manchester), and Greg/others.
Notable examples
Izzy’s downhill end at Derby; best ball getting Gabby Lewis out; a Watford vs Middlesex delivery that nipped off the off stump; “axe factor” quiz replacing dropped England players with obscure facts.

0:49Hello and welcome to Tailenders. Hello and thank you for having us on Tailenders, your weekly loosely cricket based podcast. Go roll.
0:57James Anderson:It's Felix White joining us live from New York. It's Monday morning live. Well, it's early in New York. Felix is doing bases covered for Major League Baseball and seems to be looking fantastic on iPlayer feed. Is it all going well? Absolutely loving it, Greg. Yeah, Melanie Newman and Xavier Scruggs send their love to all of you. Tailenders now in spirit, in heart. But Xavier keeps asking when he can come back on television to speak to Chris Wokes about his broken arm and coming out of the hospitality suites to bat, which, you know, he's obsessed by. So I don't know why he still thinks the dressing rooms are hospitality suites.
1:37But there you go. And we'll talk about that sometime. But we're loving it here. Being brilliant.
1:42James Anderson:Gorgeous. Nice to have you live from New York City. Jimmy Anderson, live from the outskirts of Manchester. and we'll talk about you and how you're feeling after your after your trip to Watford for the county championship um hello Jimmy hello I should say hello and we're joined by Izzy Wong who turned up late to this broadcast and it is a broadcast for an amazing reason which I'd like you to tell all the tail enders now I'm very sorry I was mowing my lawn that's the new sorry I'm late I was interviewing Mark Steele. Sorry mate. I was mowing the lawn. Okay, so what's the status of it? Because it's obviously been a very hot summer.
2:27James Anderson:Is it parched? Are you seeing any green sheet shoots?
2:31Issy Wong:We've got a few green shoots. We managed to keep most of it. We had some very dry patches where we probably let people walk on it a bit too much. We weren't miserable enough about it, I think.
2:41James Anderson:Stay off the danger area.
2:43Issy Wong:Yeah, the danger area wasn't clear and I had to put some new seeds down. they've had a good watering and they're just starting to come through so it's quite exciting
2:49James Anderson:times here actually yeah that is exciting and so you have had a couple of verbal warnings from the umpire about about the following just clearing the danger zone yeah probably down to our final warning there yeah be careful with that interesting um what mo have you got um i don't know what it's
3:06Issy Wong:called it's orange and gray plugs in plugs into the wall sounds like a fly mo fly mo
3:12James Anderson:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Me and Jimmy, no. It's our new game, Spot the Grandads.
3:26Oh my God.
3:28James Anderson:Good. And that is, and that's one of the BBC's biggest podcasts for under 35.
3:37James Anderson:Who says young people like young s***? Sometimes young people like old s*** as well. Welcome to Tear Lenders. Thank you, Anderson Tear Lenders. Matching will be here a bit later. Hey, Izzy, should we start with you? If you'd like, yeah. Come on. Come on. England's women have wrapped up a 3-0 win in the One Day International Series against Ireland. From a Tear Lenders perspective, we're pleased about that, but we're thrilled about your first International Five wicket haul, Izzy Wong second one day international 5 for 33 talk us through each wicket talk us how you feeling talk us how you felt on the day talk us how you feel now
4:18Issy Wong:well I was buzzing to be fair still buzzing now
4:21James Anderson:I bet yeah
4:22Issy Wong:first wicket bold second wicket bold next three courts so yeah thanks for coming love it got over the line with a nice slog to Cal Corner which yeah it's like a moral victory for cricket caught Cal Izzy did you feel I noticed in the attack that you felt like it seemed like you were almost like, I don't know if you would call yourself this or anyone would have, but the leader of the attack felt like you had that responsibility in that side. Did you feel that beforehand? Was it kind of like, did that bring something good out of you? It's the first time I've ever played for England and got to pick my end, which is really nice.
4:56Issy Wong:It's obviously like the most senior bowler picks the end and it felt quite strange having played sort of thing. I think I played five ODIs. So to go on to my sixth and be able to pick my end is quite pleasing. So there's a little slope at Derby. So I took the downhill end.
5:14James Anderson:Great. That's brilliant. What, do you have a favourite wicket? Was it the fifth one or was there, and do you prefer bowling someone than getting someone caught? And I don't think I've ever asked Jimmy that either. I'd love to know what Jimmy's favourite type of dismissal is.
5:32Issy Wong:I think the sound of ball on stump is one of the great sounds. I think that's quite nice. So I think my first ball was, that was probably the best ball of the lot. Gabby Lewis is their sort of best batter. So I think when we got her out, it really felt like we were kind of into them as well. So yeah.
5:49James Anderson:Does it vary for you, Jim? Depending on a plan or anything, or is it just a good old fashioned clean bold? Nick off. Bold. Top of all stumped. Ideally bold on a really flat wicket, like rock hard wicket. So when the stump comes out of the ground, it's that Simon Jones thing. Oh. Wow. That is very good. My favourite would be McCullum, I think it was. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, fantastic. Yeah, feels pointed. Don't you like the outside edge of the bat? Just that little nick off the outside edge. The sound of someone nicking off. The sound of the outside edge of the bat. No, that doesn't do it for me.
6:27Not as into that. Okay. Reach to your own. The sort of a pad is probably second to the stump. oh god yeah yeah thought of a pad literally just slap bag in the middle of the shin and then the ball just like trickles back to you
6:43James Anderson:on your follow through oh my god is that why when you were chatting to Brodery you said that one of your favourite people to get out was Shane Watson yeah I mean it was quite an entertaining sort of process getting him out because he'd obviously review it if he was giving out
7:01Issy Wong:it was just fun yeah specifically the thud of Shane Watson's bad yeah yeah he had big pads as well yeah
7:08James Anderson:he's big gun and more things yeah yeah you bowled some beautiful deliveries uh at Watford this week against Middlesex there's one that Lancashire put on their Instagram which I've watched so many times who was the who's the batter the left-hander Mike Holden I was Max Holden okay and talk us through that delivery because you nipped the top of his off stump. Pushing across him and it comes back. Yeah, I was just, it was swinging a bit. So I was just trying to swing it and it swung back in. I don't really know what to do. Sometimes it's not that complicated. Bowling, you think, I think you two think that there's always like a, this big plan that's built up to this massive moment in the game.
7:56But actually I was just trying to bowl dots and trying to, I was thinking if it doesn't swing, it goes across him. If it does swing, it might go back through the gate, but it wasn't. We kind of wanted it to be a poem before delivery, don't we? Yeah. Sometimes you're just bowling.
8:13James Anderson:Well, that's good. But it also looked like it nipped as well. It was just a nightmare. And also, umpire, umpire cam, really liked umpire cam footage of you doing it. That is when a GoPro is allowed thank you when it's Jimmy Anderson bowling or if you want. How many times have you watched your wickets back Izzy? On the lawnmower watching the wickets back.
8:38Issy Wong:I had it propped up on the lawnmower. That's why I was late actually. Poor lawns down to the floors. I've been left to mow. Once maybe? Yeah. I watch it all back the day after.
8:52James Anderson:This is good. The Charlotte Edwards era seems good. How does it feel in the team? What's the team vibe?
9:00Issy Wong:Good, yeah. A series win to end the summer's nice. I think it's been like a very busy summer. Obviously some really, really cool bits. Losing a World Cup final, losing a test match kind of sucks. But on the whole, I think we've gone quite well.
9:17James Anderson:I mean, you've
9:17Issy Wong:got to get to a World Cup final.
9:20James Anderson:That's true.
9:21Issy Wong:And I think as a group, it feels like we're in quite a nice spot, to be fair.
9:25James Anderson:And you've got to turn up to a test match to lose the test match. You have got to turn up
9:29Issy Wong:to a test match to lose it. I guess you could forfeit
9:31James Anderson:the test match. I don't know. Izzy, there was lots of talk, Izzy, but you were bowling, but I didn't get to see the game, but you bowled very disciplined, mature areas, like where in the past you'd be bowling really quick or swinging it away. It was like just really sort of like concise at the stumps. Was that an intentional thing? Did you feel like because you were choosing your end, the lead of your attack, you sort of like conditioned to do that?
Read the full transcript
9:54Issy Wong:Yeah, I'd had sort of some gentle encouragement from the I guess the management to sort of probably bowl my wobble wobble ball a lot more and just be able to tie down an end really and like Jimmy said just run in and try and bowl dots yeah I think there'd been a little bit of resistance from me because I wanted to go in and try and swing every ball around a corner and with that came sort of looser of deliveries and I had a chat with our media guy Dean over lunch on the first ODI. Dean Wilson
10:27James Anderson:bloody good rep.
10:28Issy Wong:Dean Wilson what a guy yeah so I had a shower after we bowled because I didn't I didn't want to be all sweaty for the second innings so I had a shower change of clothes went down it was just me and Dean Wilson in the dining room and we ended up just really sort of chewing the fat and he was quite good because I didn't feel like I had to like necessarily say the right thing that I could just kind of spitball what's in my head, get it all out. And then he would be like, oh, well, that makes sense. Or actually that really doesn't make sense. And he seemed to tell me when things made sense and when things didn't make sense at exactly the right time.
11:03Issy Wong:So going into the second match, I felt like I was sort of more at peace with just running in and trying to hit the stumps as many times as I can and bowl dots. And that, yeah, obviously went quite well. So me and Lottie were joking that Dean Wilson is sort of a saviour of bowling tactics.
11:23James Anderson:He's your muse. But there is a, if I may, there's a serious point to that. Because we talk, there's a lot of talk always during, particularly internationals, about players feeling at home in a dressing room and feeling like they're part of the setup and feel like they can actually be themselves. themselves therefore showing vulnerabilities in front of all those people that they might have gone oh i can't say that i'm scared because they might drop me but actually it's it's it's nice that that it's it's clearly that that's that's where you are because you're holding well and playing well and also that's where the team is that they can actually feel comfortable being themselves and then work how to you know work out how to execute their skills properly so that's must be a nice feeling because you've had a you know you've had some some uh some trickier times playing for England but that's that seems like maybe turned a corner yeah it was really I think
12:15Issy Wong:like the bit that sort of flipped it in my head was that like just because I'm going out and representing England it doesn't mean I need to show everybody everything that I can do all at once and actually if I if I'm really good at one thing on one day and then another day I might try and be really good at another thing then that's sort of that's enough to sort of really put the team in a strong position and yeah it's not like every time i go out i need to show i can do this and i can do that and i love it i think especially with the longer format as well do a rubik's cube in 10 seconds it's like a guitar player like you're so often like bb king or like those blues greats they'll be like just play free notes but you know that they but they can do lots of stuff but they're choosing just to be like do you know what i mean just like have that framework like just giving you what you need to hear and then occasionally you'll do little flourish like oh you can do other stuff but it's like i don't need to because i'm bb king so i just hit the stumps same thing i'm bb king so i'll just run in and hit shane lots exactly yeah thank you
13:25James Anderson:um what's the autumn looking like for you is he what's what's next bit of downtime and then i
13:30Issy Wong:think we've got quite a busy winter with sort of tours and stuff so i think we've got sort of couple of weeks off and then building up for a few trips away nice so you put yourself in a good
13:40James Anderson:position for uh nice nice at the end of the season to go hey just remember me eh yeah good timing
13:46Issy Wong:it's a nice one my dad always says three points just before the international break feels like six because you get two weeks to enjoy them it feels a little bit like that sort of last game of the summer and then being able to almost enjoy it yeah and no points feels like minus three Yeah, because you're sat thinking off all week. How do you drop points against them?
14:09James Anderson:Exactly, yeah. Some correspondence of uncertainty. Go on, cheers. Next, an email from Joe about the emergency podcast about Pakistan. Hi, G-Fox, Jim, Felix, matching shot in the movie. Cheers, cheers, cheers, cheers, cheers. Quick one from me. Your emergency podcast with Atif Nawaz this week was really good, but I was absolutely flabbergasted that not a single one of you did a variation of the phrase throw the baby out with the bathwater good point to describe the Pakistan situation yeah good point not only because it's quite literally the very definition of it but I quite fancied hearing Greg's impression of Phil Tufnell saying that go well cheers I can't believe it didn't cross any of our minds that was it we've missed the baby out with the bathwater yeah well that would have been your responsibility Greg I can't believe that didn't cross your mind to say that I know.
14:59James Anderson:Yeah. I'm always looking for an excuse to say it. Yeah. In my head then I was thinking, why didn't no one say let's not throw the Baba out with the bathwater? Oh. Very good. Hang on a second, John. Let's not throw the Baba out with the bathwater. Sharky, can we re-edit last week's episode and just drop that in? Craig's saying that. halfway through. Yeah. Could we re, Sharky, can we fade you up, please? Can I fade it up? Yes, you've faded up. Oh, also, I want to give a shout out to Jared from Filey who was listening to, who was on the breakfast show this morning and he said, can you fade me up live?
15:47James Anderson:Nice. Which immediately put me in a dilemma being like, oh, I've got to explain that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yes, you've faded up. Sharky, could you surreptitiously re-edit last week's episode re-upload it with just I shouldn't put a barber out of the ball for one John
16:11James Anderson:do you want my honest answer yeah no you could do it I could do it I could do it if I could be asked there you go there's my honest answer wow f***ing hell wow yeah yeah Rick sharky said he doesn't want to do it yeah do you want me to do it what are you faded up oh do i am i faded up yes yes you're faded up okay fantastic um this is sharky's protege
16:49James Anderson:Yarek and I think I think Yarek it's time thank you for having us on Tailenders there we go yeah well you're very welcome for being the protege on Tailenders now could you hack into the BBC mainframe and re-edit last week's episode to add in I don't think I'm going to I don't think I'm going to I don't think I'm going to I don't think I'm going to I could certainly do the editing bit It's the uploading on the BBC side bit that I don't have. I don't have the keys to that mainframe, but I'll see what I can do, shall I? Sharky's got the keys. He's not looking happy about giving them over. Just leave the keys under the pot.
17:30James Anderson:Yarek, come and get them, and he can get us into the mainframe. Anyway. Let's see. Let's see. I can work on Sharky. I can work on Sharky. We'll sort something out. Send him some beer.
17:45Issy Wong:I thought he'd be in a good mood after the Everton result.
17:48James Anderson:Well, exactly. Oh, that was a brilliant, that was. Oh. I love it when a, sorry, I know we got off topic here, but I love it when a keeper has just stood there and just watches the ball go in and there's nothing they can do about it. Love that. That's as good as a fud back into your front pad. Not in your own front pad, someone else's front pad. Someone else's front, yeah, not your own one. Someone else's. I was surprised that, because that is an amazing behind Pickford's goal replay of that, where Jordan Pickford just runs out. It's the happiest I've ever seen. I was half expecting Sharky to follow him onto the pitch and do a similar celebration.
18:29James Anderson:A bit energetic for me, isn't it? Yeah. I think you'd be, even if you weren't there, I think you could run from London and you would have been there. That's how excited you'd have been. Well, actually, it was, me and my son Will were playing cricket yesterday and it was during the tea break. So he had it on my phone. and when the goal did go in, we did jump her up and ran all around the pitch like idiots. That's nice. And that was definitely the most I moved during that cricket match yesterday.
18:56James Anderson:Sharky, thank you. Some more correspondence for uncertainty. Please re-upload last week's episode. Thank you. Ash has emailed in about the Brodie and Jimmy episode, which he loved and says, hello all. Gorgeous. Great episode. Amazing to hear those two greats chatting to each other. Was it just me or did Jimmy talk more in this episode in the last 10 years it was brilliant go well ash i think the four guinnesses had something to do with and i did i messaged jimmy and said uh i loved watching him roll his eyes every time broadly said something sweet about him yeah jimmy was just sitting there rolling his eyes like i've been married for 50 years like oh he's off on another one here we go did you enjoy that chat Jim?
19:44I did yeah it wasn't I probably had two or three Guinness and it probably did help I think a bit of adrenaline because of the occasion yeah were you nervous Jim? I was nervous because I hadn't seen it yeah yeah I know I've seen some of the portraits in there and I didn't want it to be one of them
20:08I really
20:09James Anderson:thought of Andrew Strauss I also listened I listened to For the Love of Cricket or is it called For the Love of Cricket Love of Cricket I think it was just Love of Cricket Love of Cricket and it was a bit where you had a go at Brody because you you were getting so niggly with him you went well yeah you're trying to be like Michael Vaughan aren't you and I didn't say that did I he just went oh shut up like that proper Proper teenagers on the bus. Yeah, but you're just trying to be Michael. Oh, shut up. I'm not. Touched a nerve. That's such a nerve there. Yeah, really funny episode. Next up, Sam has made an observation.
20:53James Anderson:He says, hi, everybody. Desperately need someone to acknowledge this madness I'm feeling over Joe Root's right arm. We've all come to know and love Joe's lovely furry arms ever present during his batting. but whilst watching day one of the test versus pakistan i noticed that his right arm seems inexplicably less furry than his left what's going on here has he shaved just one arm why would he do that i've put this out to my mate so no one else seems to see it but me i feel insane and i keep pausing the match to find the perfect visible angle but it's so hard to capture it clearly surely someone else has noticed this please help me out thanks for the pod loads of love sam I want to find that is it's almost a creepy observation you got that I think maybe my first guess is that he's back foot from a fast bowler he's been he's been caught behind where it's just umpires are judged but it's brushed his arm but it's actually the hair the furry hair on his arm so he said actually moving forward because it's all about 1 % details I should shave that bit of my arm and then the ball would never deviate and I won't be given out that way
22:01Issy Wong:like cyclists who like shave the shave their legs exactly
22:05James Anderson:for aerodynamics for swimmers who have are either bald or wear caps or pitbull of course for aerodynamics when he's performing around the world doesn't really work for batting though does it I guess the helmet fits more snug yeah okay a bit more flush to the scalp Jimmy bowling in my world Could you please text Joe Root and ask him if he shaved one arm? No. No. Okay. Okay, I'm going to do it then. He's more likely to reply to you, isn't he? I doubt it. It's an interesting observation. Weirdly, I do sort of know what you mean with the hair on his arms. I can see that. I know he said that. But I don't know about the shaven right arm.
23:03James Anderson:quick one listener question do you shave one arm yeah I think so have you sent it yeah okay good have you ever heard of that Izzy no
23:18Issy Wong:I don't know if it's his right hand right arm do you think he could have had his arm out the window of his car and the hair's just been bleached by the sun oh yeah
23:28James Anderson:he has got very blonde hair Does he drive a transit van to the ground?
23:36Issy Wong:He's actually the coach driver. He's doubling up.
23:39James Anderson:Hello, darling. You're right. What a specific observation. We welcome everyone on this podcast, including Harry. He says, I'm a six year trail finder and a one time live show attendee. Nice, Harry. I'm writing in for a wedding shout out as my partner, Millie and I are getting married. we went to truck festival on our stag and hen weekend the main selling point being the maccabees are one of my favorite bands ever so on the friday evening after a long day of drinking me and my wife to be swapped outfits benefit the tape i describe it as a mermaid-esque dress okay little scales everywhere she's five foot i'm six foot with shoes on so you can imagine the discomfort yeah maccabees headlined and smashed it out the park as always so it was around an hour after said headline slot, I was at a bar tent grabbing a beer when a man approaches me asking what I've come as.
24:32James Anderson:So I gave him the story and proceeded to chat to the man, taking in live music for a good 20 minutes. He then asks, who are you looking forward to most this weekend? With that, I'd spent 20 minutes telling him how the Maccabees, one of my favorite bands, how they got me through the hard times, how they brought Jamie T out at all points of their huge comeback show. And he's just going along with it nicely and nodding and telling me how cool this all is. I then put the question to him and he says, I can't stay the weekend. I'm going to bright in the morning i've got commitments i've had a great time watching a few bands today though and me being the fanatic i say i i go are you going to see the maccabees tomorrow he replies i'm in the maccabees it was sam wasn't it i remember he went turns out the man in question was the lovely sam doyle uh aka the maccabees and more importantly tail enders band um and i was far too drunk to even recognize him that's so funny do you know what it's because i know what happened because um jack the drummer in foals he's been coming out to the shows and jack and sam have got like a little sort of union like drummers union where they basically like go out and play at festivals so it's almost like in the backstage area jack comes talking is sam in can sam come out with me sort of thing so jack's jack's fair and then sam's like sam's like i'm gonna go i'm gonna go out and play like it's like okay sending them out into the festival so i saw hang on this is even better that harry was also telling this story to jack bevan from foals he would have been telling it to jack from foals yeah wow this is huge in yeah this is a huge indie blunder he doesn't even realize how deep this goes yeah anyway harry says i could have died on the spot wanting the ground to swallow me whole or better just disappear from the face of the earth if you do if you do read this out two of my best mates hodge and the real lord taylor are avid trail finders they will wet themselves with joy.
26:22James Anderson:Please give them a go well. Thank you, Harry. And go well to everybody. Go well. Cheers. Cheers.

27:50James Anderson:or a warm tepid one i don't really care good hot take it's a good hot take no i i think i think uh pakistan really need a flat wicket edge baston if there's any c movement it's just gonna be a bath yeah um izzy what did you make of the um that blood bath izzy what did you make I'm really enjoying the bath related,
28:16Issy Wong:the continuation of the bath related descriptions.
28:22James Anderson:There's no need for a baby out of the bloodbath, John. What did you make of the wholesale changes, Izzy?
28:29Issy Wong:I can't believe it. It just feels like crazy. I don't know. I was trying to think if I was a player in a squad and that had happened. I could only imagine it as you'd either be at breakfast the next morning being like, where have all my mates gone? Or you'd be at the airport with all your mates going home. Yeah, and thinking, what, yeah. What has just happened? Yeah.
28:52James Anderson:I think they did go and meet King Prince Charles as well, didn't they? I saw that - Well, all the squad that had left. All the ones that had left. Well, Baba would know. I don't know if it was. I saw Baba giving Charles a bat. I saw him handing over a bat and Charles kind of going, yeah. Let's not throw the Baba out with the bathwater.
29:17James Anderson:that's what he said matching hello hello
29:26hello i just came in on that joke that was good felix how is new york city it's fantastic mate thank you very much having a great time out here matching missing you guys gotta get telling that's
29:38James Anderson:new york at some point again yeah yes please please yeah uh this time with everyone uh yes please i'd definitely like to do that please uh match and i believe you have a quiz for us what we'd be doing today please i have a topical quiz good well what i was thinking of right in light of the recent news of pakistan's complete squad rotation yeah got me thinking right that's kind calling your rotation how would it how would it look if we applied the same procedure to the england team right oh and we had to quickly axe some players in an emergency situation welcome to the axe factor oh nice lovely thanks for having us on the axe factor so today we're in a metaphorical emergency selection committee okay as the head of the selection committee.
30:35Brilliant. I think we need to shake up. I'll be tempted to make seven wholesale changes to the current England team with new players coming in. Okay. Your job as my selection committee is to keep the team as strong as possible. And your knowledge of the players is the only thing keeping them in the team. Okay. You four are working together, right? Oh, I see. That's good.
30:53James Anderson:That's good. Yeah, I like that. It will make sense. So you four... So we're fighting to keep them in. Yes, yes, exactly. By answering questions about their lives. Yes. You four are working together. It's up to you guys... Okay, we've got to keep them powered up. It's up to you guys to keep... as the selection committee to protect your current 11 against my demand for changes. So my predicted 11 for the Edge Buston Test is Duckett, Amelia Gay, Jordan Cox, Joe Rue, Harry Brooke, Dan Lawrence, Jimmy Smith, Gus Atkinson, Olly Robinson, Joffrey Archer, and Josh Tung. Okay. Nearly said Joffrey Archer.
31:23Joffrey Archer. You sure Joffrey? I think Joffrey rather than Geoffrey Archer. I'm not sure about Geoffrey Archibald opening. We're going to put two minutes on the clock.
31:39James Anderson:All right. He'd be mates with Brydon Kast getting arrested and all that. Yeah, yeah. Oh, not another one. We're going to put two minutes on the clock. You're going to take it in turns. I'm going to give you a fact about one of the players in the current 11. For example, Greg, if I said to you, this player has 14 ,603 test runs, you'd say... Where's Joe Root? Joe Root, correct. Yeah. Joe Root is retained. If you got it wrong. It's as easy as that, is it? What's the honk on? That means that player is then removed from the side and you have to come up with a different player to put in place. If you can't give me a player within five seconds, I'm going to say it myself, who I want.
32:23Do they? Fine. Yeah.
32:26James Anderson:I love it. Do these players, if they get ejected, Do they get, they still get to go meet the king though? They all get to meet the king. Okay. And queen. And queen. I just wanted to check. And the queen. Sharky. She's dead. Sharky. Oh no, I mean the, oh the new queen. Yeah. I mean Camilla. Have some respect. Still not used to that yet. If you want to get your CBE or MBE, you need to be. I just think you've got to leave it before you call yourself the queen, just for a bit. I agree. Sharky, do you want to, Sharky, what's your views on the royal family? I think keeping Crater down. but yeah let's continue with the game okay sharky can you keep an eye can you make the changes and i will call a press conference at the end and announce the new england 11 sharky what's your case the royal family is a great question okay move on not now you're not yeah one should be faded down in this situation two minutes on the clock i'm going to go around okay three two one yeah go greg whose mum was an international lacrosse player i don't uh give me an answer amelio gay incorrect ben duckett is dropped from the england team who do you want to replace him with um um five four three i'm gonna go for dom sibley yes okay put dom sibley in there felix which player went to the same secondary school as olympic gold medalist jessica ennis hill oh for fuck uh jamie smith incorrect joe root is dropped who do you want to replace him with oh god um five four three sam north east is back four sam north east is back yeah jimmy which player has a brother who is a professional wrestler called david or reckom this is a great game five four three incorrect dan lawrence is dropped who do you want to replace him with?
34:23You've got about six. Five, four, three, two. You've not given anyone. I'm going to put Jack Taylor from Gloucester in there, please. Great batter. Also, you can bowl a bit of spin.
34:31James Anderson:Can't just keep... Hang on, wait, wait. Can I stop you? David Reckham. Yeah. It's Dan Lawrence's brother. That's really good. Dan Lawrence's brother, professional wrestler. I really love that. Can we talk to him on Tailenders, please? Yeah, he's a wrestler. Like, yeah, he's an English wrestler, but I can't believe he's ever done that. And also, can I just, can I just say something else about Dan Lawrence? He did a really good chat with Atherton after he'd scored 50 odd or whatever it was. Nice. And he was talking about what position he wants to bat in, all the rest of it, all that stuff. They'd been working on a new trigger movement.
35:06James Anderson:I think I started drooling at the TV. I thought, just tell us more about this trigger movement. This is the good stuff. It was really, really boring, in the weed stuff. Perfect stuff. Love it. Brilliant. And I thought that man could be England captain. Yeah. Just saying that. I just wanted to say that out loud as a thought. Put it out in the ether. Well, he's been dropped. He's not in a squad anymore. He's been dropped though now by matching. So that's that done. Okay. Okay. Start the clock. Izzy, which player's favorite band is Bon Jovi? Wow. Do you know who that is? Three, two.
35:42Issy Wong:Bon Jovi. Have we had Jamie Smith? Jamie Smith? Incorrect. Jordan Cox is dropped. Who do you want to replace him with? Jordan Cox. Oh dear. deserve to be dropped if your favourite bands are on 5 4 3 2 do they need to keep wicket he's batting no batting 3 oh god bat 3 I've got no idea put Tommy Borman in from Gloucester please you know Bank has only got a chance here get the 7 back come on
36:10James Anderson:the hooters good and bad I don't understand no the hooters were dropping yeah that means you're retained Felix, which player growing up had a pet pig? Oh, for God's sake. Ollie Robinson. Ollie Robinson. Harry Brook is dropped. Who do you want to replace him with? Oh, my God. Five, four, three, two, one. Sharky, put Ben Charlesworth in from Gloucester. No, I said Ben Charlesworth in. Greg, Greg, which player's full name has the highest value on a Scrabble board? um uh ollie robinson oh no i think we've already done this jordan cox have we already dropped him oh yeah he's got for bonjour oh sorry uh who should we go for oh greg which player shares his name with another professional cricketer and weirdly also shares the exact same birthday with them five just said it you said it to what ollie robinson ollie robinson has dropped you too late Who do you want to replace him with?
37:17Sam Curran. Oh, yeah. Sam Curran. At least he's got a bit right there. Jesus Christ. Jimmy, which player has gone public about his Botox injections? Five, four, three. Geoffra. Incorrect. Drop Josh Tongue. Who do you want to replace Josh Tongue with? Five, four, three, two, one. Sharky, put Marchant DeLang in. I don't know. Don't imagine the lagging. He's not even English. He's South African. Yeah. He's got an English,
37:50James Anderson:he's got a passport, he's got a UK passport. Wow. That was a side of Felix I'd never seen before. Not even English. Yeah. Izzy, which player has been, which player has been playing in the same team as Ollie Pope since the under 11s? Oh.
38:06Issy Wong:Must be so. Jamie Smith. Yeah. Incorrect. Dropped Gus Atkinson. Who do you want to put in? 5 E from Bamber I love E from Bamber Okay And finally We'll go Whose go is it Felix Which play Oh Jimmy Which player's mum Is Italian 5 4 3 2 1 Emilio Emilio Gay is dropped Who do you want to replace him with 5 4 3 2 Add us to cook cookie. We're going to put Joe Phillips in from Gloucester. What? No!
38:50I tell you what, Gloucester going to be f***ing next week. I'm going to struggle at the end of the season. You've just written down all the Gloucester team. That is your new look England team, Sharky. Do you want to handle the press conference in front of the world's media?
39:04James Anderson:What's up, team? Sharknado Patel. Am I faded up to the world's media? Yes, you faded up to the world's media. Yes, you are, as long as you're not talking about the Royal family. Okay. The starting 11, the England men starting 11 for the third test against Pakistan at Edgbaston is. Yeah. Dom Sibley. Great child. Coming out of retirement, Alistair Cook. Interesting. Three, Tommy Borman, Sam North East, Ben Charlesworth, Jack Taylor, Jamie Smith, Ethan Bamba, Sam Curran, Joffa, not Jeffrey Archer, despite being South African, March and Delang. Yes. Play starts on Wednesday at 11 o 'clock. Oh my God.

45:26My favourite part of the show.
45:28James Anderson:Gav has had his patio repointed. It's now known as the Ricky Pointing patio. Good. Not garden furniture, but Caroline took her young daughter to Lord's and needed something to sterilise her feeding bottles. She took a collapsible container with sterilising solution and bottles. It was her Ben Bucket. Yeah. That is the end of today's TaleEnders. thank you for listening you can email tailenders at bbc.co.uk you can review you can like you can share you can subscribe Tailenders is a Percivonica production for BBC Sounds go well everybody cheers cheers
46:12James Anderson:what are we doing? Felix that's a great question I've assembled all the Tailenders this is very urgent this is a few hours after the episode we've all got on with our day but we've had to this is an emergency extra bit of the podcast because I have received a message from Joe Root okay go on the message from Joe Root is now on the Tailenders group and it says hi mate hope all is well very observant from your listener I have had to tape my elbow this summer so to make the process of taking the tape off more pain free I have shaved one arm and in the awkward stage of it growing back. Hope it clears it up.
46:50James Anderson:Go well. Wow. What skills of perception we've got on TailEnders. That is absolutely incredible. I'm actually a bit unnerved by it, to be honest with you. Yeah. Imagine how Joe feels. I'm a bit disappointed that you three haven't picked up on it, especially you two, Felix and Greg. I know. I know. I'm actually gutted. It's your sort of niche little thing that you like to spot in test matches. Yeah. Do you know what, Jim? I've never said this to you, but I always like, when we first met, it's like hanging out I was like when we sat next to each other I was always like when your hands and I was like oh my god I know those hands so well because I've seen so many times on TV like holding them and I was like oh my god they have actual hands
47:36James Anderson:so this this is an extra bit for everyone when they're watching the test match look out for Joe Root's bald arm do you think do you think he properly shaves it or is it like Imac He said shaved. It's shaved. Harry spotted shaved. Joe said shaved. Wow. He shaved it. Interesting. So it's going to be the prickly comeback now.
47:59Okay.
48:00James Anderson:Anyway, that was it. So what's the reason again? He's taping it or something. He taped his arm. He had to tape his arm. I've had to tape my elbow this summer. So to make the process of taking the tape off more pain-free, I have shaved one arm and in the awkward stage of growing it back because he doesn't have to take the elbow anymore, I guess. Nice. Nice, nice, nice. And that's the Terlenders difference.
48:27The TMS will be snapping that up, though. That'll be on the BBC Cricket homepage. Without credit to Terlenders in a week. Anyway, got well. Cheers!
