Shop Summer Fruit Fest at Whole Foods Market. Hello. Hello. And welcome to Tailenders. And thank you for having us on Tailenders guitar chord. Oh. I just fancied a little pregnant pause there. Just wanted to just check everyone. You fancied saying pregnant pause, didn't you? You just wanted to say pregnant pause more than anything, which I understand because it's great.

14Hello. Hello to all the wonderful tailwinders listeners. This is G-Force Greg James with Sir Jimmy Anderson and Felix White. Hello. Hello. on a rainy old sunday afternoon in the uk but not a rainy old afternoon where felix is for you look so well and relaxed and sunny do i oh thank you i actually do feel really i've been i've been in marrakesh for a week just on my own on holiday and it's been actually been so good for me i was telling shark who came on i had a i had dinner with a dutch couple in their mid-60s the other day because they've just seen me walk around a hotel on my own so they invited me for dinner and we had this sort of like quite quite spiritual evening of conversation it was really amazing that's so nice and I've been around Marrakesh I was thinking about getting um I was trying I was thinking about doing thinking it'd be funny to go up the mountains and around Marrakesh asking about the cricket world cup but when you get to Marrakesh and the Aps mountains you realize waving your phone around at people talking about cricket world cup is probably not the thing you should be doing so i didn't do that but anyway no no cricket buzz here yeah i don't yeah i wasn't sure there would be but then you never know there might be somebody who's got a sky go login that you could have used in a nearby cafe or something just it'd be nice to find just back on the um on the dutch couple so yeah did you what they they just saw you as a stranger they didn't go oh we love the maccabees or tail enders it was just a lovely sort of no i don't know if it was surprising to hear this but um the maccabees never got that big in morocco i don't think but we they're dutch oh yeah it's true actually but it's off i guess very good point no it's sort of we were it's off season here so this hotel has not that many people in it because it's not that it feels sunny to me but it isn't that sunny right so there's not there's about me and about maybe three or basically it's not white lotus is what i'm saying there's about three or four older couples and me in this hotel so i think they saw me enough times like around the pool and things to be like you know what's going what's your story type thing why are you here and then just had a nice time with him so it was really sweet i'm sure a lot of tellings listeners me included just then were thinking of white lotus you brought that up but But it's not, there's not, it feels like this is the last episode one of the White Lotus where there's a lovely dinner with the Dutch couple.

46And then night three, someone dies. So someone is going to die. Oh my God, don't say, don't say, there's not enough people here. The odds are so stacked against me. And they now know everything about you. That's the problem. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, they're great. Walter and Sophie they were brilliant and um yeah I don't know what else to say but I'm just having a really nice time we've decided to jump on today because we wanted to do an episode and we thought well why don't we do one after the England Nepal game or Nepal don't know what we're saying now um because it might be good and it was really good and I actually feel I feel gutted I I wanted I wanted Nepal to win that Jimmy were you watching what do you what do you make of it yeah I was um sort of keeping an eye on it whilst doing some DIY yeah I think that well there was a lot I mean we didn't really talk much about the cricket on the group it was more about how do you pronounce Nepal which is known we're still not really clear and I feel like every time Nick Knight said it he sounded Jamaican so I don't I don't know like it's like it's like how Sean Paul says Nepal Nepal Nepal.

06Yeah. I feel like I actually, because I listened to TMS and I watched it on Sky, but I noticed that every single commentator and pundit has a slightly different way of saying Nepal. So I think you're safe with whatever feels right for you. Do you know what it reminded me of? It was a bit like, because it obviously got really close and they rattled us massively. and you could see the faces of Archer, Rasheed, everyone, like, you know, when they're running in, like, what ball should I bowl? And the commentary was reminding me of that because they were second guessing how to say Nepal or Nepal. And the personal commentators were changing it.

46Like Sharkey said, Owen Morgan went Nepal to begin with and then changed it to Nepal or the other way around. So even the commentators were getting rattled by their pronunciation, the same way the bowlers were with their plans. so uh just to sum up quickly england won only just they won by four runs just about 20 minutes or so ago it was uh that's a hell that's a hell of a scare in their t20 world cup opener it was a it was a great game great game of cricket that's what we hoped we've been talking about that for for years now about having the lesser spotted nations in these big tournaments you want that because you want those stories and the the sweet bit in that final over i thought was I can't remember who was on commentary I can't remember who it was and I don't know how they said Nepal but they talked about how much it would have meant and they said this would have been the greatest Nepalese sporting moment in recent years if they were to do over England and I'm actually really sad they didn't they got really close some great performances from Dependresing Airy 44 of 29 balls also took 2 for 23 and Lokesh, bam!

5439 not out of 20 balls And it was just, it was really, it was Sam Curran who did it. And as he often does in that final over, he's just incredibly good. Jimmy, the Nepalese team looked really good. They obviously, that is a cricket loving country, which is obviously bordering India, but they looked really good, didn't they? And that's, that would have, that's shaken England, surely, when they go and do a little team talk now. Yeah. I mean, it gave them a bit of a scare, I reckon, but I think in this tournament, there's no team that you can really say oh that's going to be an easy game for England because everyone's I know there are more teams in it but all the teams that have qualified that you might not have seen before or know much about the way that they've developed over the last few years playing so much against each other the associate nations they've developed and they've become a lot better than they used to be and I don't think that especially in the T20 format you can't count anybody out and I thought they gave a really good account out of themselves and I think that England's experience probably just got them over the line Sam Curran as you said in that last over but watching watching Nepal I was like you know there's not many areas where you thought you know sometimes you think the fielding's a bit shoddy or something but I thought they were a well polished outfit and they gave a really good account of themselves obviously coached by Stuart Law as well someone who I've played with who's got a lot of experience so I think you know they could give a few teams a scare in this tournament because they've got some real talented players and as I said they've fielded as a unit and didn't really put too many or didn't do too many things wrong.

36It sort of helps doesn't it as well so having the conditions closer to their home a little bit Jim it like feels like it that sort of levels it up a little bit as well and makes it a real spectacle all those teams sort of around India but are clearly like improving at an unbelievable rate. Yeah, I think it does help when the conditions are probably similar to what you're used to. Obviously, they travel around the world as well and play and are now exposed to more conditions the more they play. I thought the leg spinner, I thought, was fantastic. His seam position and I remember he bowled three dots to Will Jacks in a row.

13Could have been four, but for a misfield. and I thought he was really impressive. I've forgotten his name. I'm sorry. I think it's... Hang on. Let me get his name right. Lamachain, I think he's called. Again, pronunciation going on the commentators. So it's Nick Knight's fault if I got it wrong. But I thought he was really impressive. And also they focused on their fans for quite a bit And, you know, a lot of people might not think that cricket's that big there, but it obviously is. And the travelling support was amazing. I know it's not too far to travel, but still taking time off work and stuff is difficult for people to go and watch cricket in other countries.

58So I thought they were really impressive. They made noise all day and should be really proud of their team's performance. Who was the guy that got Butler out, was it? It was Yadav, wasn't it, I think? Was it him who was bowling? Just some good, quick stuff as well. I wondered whether you were excited to see some good, quick seam bowling at the top as well, Jimmy. Because after we talked about opening with Spin last podcast. Yeah, I think, again, if you want to do well in T20s, you've got to start well with the ball. Make best use of that new white ball. I thought they did that really well. A young lad on Davey, I think, as well.

33Got Phil Salt out. So lots of positives there. Lots of people to keep an eye on. Yeah. And lots of pronunciations to mess up. So it's good. You're so right though, Jim, about the cutaways to the crowd. Like how I'm totally with Gregory that, you know, and I think in their heart of hearts, most people would be as well watching that even England. Because like, how can you watch that and see the joy that is creating people and not want, actually want Napoli to win that game or some part of you? Like you just, you kind of wanted it to happen for them, didn't you? The only reason I wouldn't is because I think that would just put so much pressure on that England team.

10It could fold very quickly. but just like it was quite a rare sort of joy coming out of a television actually from all of them um which is why we've complained so many times while tail end has been on about world cups with less teams in it because you lose all of that like that that little moment you know once in a lifetime generation sort of moments that are happening yeah but also tail enders in its whole its whole reason for being a tail ender is an underdog and we will always support an underdog and that is why we are always drawn to that Felix that's why you're drawn to the FA Cup that is why we all love those sorts of the giant the giant killer stories it is just it is just it is a bit of it's a bit of magic isn't it and um well look that's I'm excited that was good I mean even though America on the global scale are not minnows by a long stretch uh yeah they're kind of terrifying but in terms of their cricket team in terms of their cricket team yeah um they're historically weak and that's not their number one sport by long as it's not even in their top 10 sports.

16But they had India in trouble when India batted. They were sort of 60-odd for four at one point. Pakistan were a little bit against it, against the Netherlands as well. You could have chatted to your Dutch couple about that. Yeah, true. That didn't come up. I'm sure, but yeah, they'll be kicking themselves now. You're so right over it. Is cricket the only thing in the world where America are like, Oh, well done. Is it the only thing where you think about the USA? You think, oh, good for them. I think it might be. Maybe. The only thing in the world. Anyway. Yeah. Yeah, I think it is. I think that might be it.

54I would like to just ask Jimmy about some bowling quickly. Luke Wood, Joffre Archer, Sam Curran. Let's start with the slight negative of Joffre being quite expensive. And then that final Luke Wood over, quite a tricky one, got there in the end, got the wicket at the end of the over. It's one of those things when you watch T20 cricket, again, Felix, we're very pleased that we never got the chance to actually do that. I think we'd crumble under the pressure and start crying. it's very difficult when you're in that in that wankedy stadium and you've got everyone on top of you and you've got Joffre Archer who is a great bowler we know that but the pressure does get to you doesn't it Jim?

33Yeah it can do especially when you're sort of expected to win as well you're expected to bowl well Joffre's coming in and expected to take wickets at the top and bowl fast and sometimes you know they showed that they're good players some of the shots they played were fantastic up at the top of the order I was really pleased for Luke Wood, actually. Obviously, a Lancashire teammate, but I just felt like he deserved a chance. He's really good with that new ball up at the top of the order. I think that gives a decent balance. The team allows then Sam Curran to come on a little bit later, use more of his overs in the middle of the innings and towards the back end.

07And obviously, we saw the death that it was crucial that he bowled well in that last over. So, you know, I don't think they bowled badly. I just think Nepal played really well. and sometimes that can happen. Jim, is there a difference? I was thinking when I was watching Lokesh go at them because obviously when we've always talked to you about bowling in test cricket or I have a conversation about bowling, it's normally top of your mark, make a decision what you're going to bowl, execute it. But when, for example, in this game when Lokesh went halfway through the run-up, he's like sort of walking across the stumps and going face on to hit down the ground or whatever.

43Do short form bowlers have a different, is there like some sort of theory where if a batter does that, you do change your mind last minute. Or is, do you know what I mean? Is that sort of articulated anywhere in dressing rooms that you do switch up your mind after the mate of a ball if the batter sets up last second separately? Yeah, you have to adapt in T20 cricket. You know, there's so many times you have to change your mind before you deliver the ball because you've got to watch the batter. Yeah. You know, so yeah. So that'll be an instinctive thing. It'll be just like quite an instinctive yeah but you see so every bowler's got their sort of go-to get outs if you will so for example if someone backs away to the leg side then some bowlers like to follow them and cramp them for room some bowlers will like to throw it wide or you know really good bowlers will be able to do both at the last minute just instinctively or take the pace off it and go wide or whatever it might be so each bowler will have their different methods of if someone does this then my get out is this you know I'll start running up looking to bowl Yorker but at the last minute you might have to change your line you might have to just roll your fingers down it to change the pace or whatever and again with Joffre Bowl quite a few like leg cutters slow balls and again you can sort of change your line that you started on generally if someone moves so each bowler will have their various ways of getting out of that situation It's hard isn't it because you kind of almost like before you're running in you're thinking I've got I might bowl three different balls here type thing as you take off yeah amazing skill I think you need to have three balls to be able to yeah because because batters can hit anywhere and generally you'll you narrow down what ball you can bowl depending on what field you've set so if you set a heavily leg side field then maybe the offside's not the goal because there's no fielders out or whatever there is some method to it but generally yeah a lot of instinct in there as well And I guess you could see that in terms of difference in levels of experience between Luke Wood and Sam Curran at the end.

54Luke Wood eventually got it, whereas Sam Curran was there immediately because he's had so much match practice and Luke Wood was trying for that one, the wide one outside the off stump. It went wide and actually wide three times. But it's exciting though for Luke because he's at the start of that journey, I suppose. I really liked the unit of Harry Brook, Joss Butler and Sam Curran at the end, taking the sting out of it and slowing it all down. That's that experience. I thought Harry Brook had a really good game. Half century with the bat and then seemed to captain pretty well, not lose his calm.

26And that's a really good sign, I think, isn't it, for the rest of the tournament? I was going to say that. You looked very calm, didn't you, while all the chaos was happening? and thought that was quite a big game for him as a captain. He's laughing. Yeah. Yeah, well, you need your captain to stay cool, don't you? I mean, having Joss there, who's been captain for a number of years and got all that experience. Sam Curran as well has experienced a huge amount of T20 cricket with IPLs and international stuff, franchise cricket. So there's plenty of experience in that group to get through difficult situations.

58And so they did it really well, yeah. I thought, going back to Luke Woods last over, I thought quite often when you say, if you want to nail that wide Yorker, you're trying to hit literally just inside the wide line. And his angle, you know, a couple of them are sort of cutting through the wide line. So he's not far off. He's like literally centimeters off. And when you've not played for a while, it can be difficult to have that sort of, you know, execution of those really small margins. Yeah, yeah. Is there an element of it, you know, when you're playing darts and you line them up, you've got you, it's like, you know, classic Phil the Power Taylor back in the day where he lined them up.

32Bang, bang. And then eventually he gets it. Anyway, just on Just Butler, he's England's most ever capped player ever. Ever. In all formats. 402 international caps. Unbelievable. It's unbelievable. What a career. What a cricketer. Yeah. 403 now. 403. Exactly. 403 now. Shall we move on to some other things? We want to talk about our boys, Italy who are playing our other boys Scotland 5 30 in the morning Monday morning that's the that's the big one and did you did you all see the video that we all hoped would would come and has come and it's the Italian cricketers doing the Italian thing you've seen this yeah no way Madsen actually in that video is there I don't think Wayne's involved in that one he's not involved in that and that's and that's a shame isn't it is a shame that is a that is a shame i have seen that uh have you seen it jim yeah are you gonna play it

48well i love it it's like a bunch of the benefit of the listeners go on Fee what I love is that just clearly a bunch of men are not Italian doing it

03they're like so clearly wasn't there there was a story this week where one of them was playing is going to play for Italy and has never been to Italy it's alright yeah yeah there's a lot of that also it's come to light in the last week that Wayne Madsen plays hockey for South Africa. South Africa? Used to. Used to play hockey for South Africa. So what is he on? Well, he's just a unique character. He's a world beater. And, you know, the only reason he can beat the world is because he can play for a country in it. Because he's played himself. So he will be undefeated. It's not like a, it's not a novel thing though, is it?

48What, to play for two different countries? In different sports. Yeah, in two different sports. Yeah, but it was a World Cup one, hockey under-19 World Cup or something. Right, okay. I think. Or was it an actual World Cup? So yeah, he played in the Hockey World Cup for South Africa back in 2006. 20 years later, he's returned to the World Cup in a completely different sport. 42-year-old Wayne Madsen will captain Italy in the T20 World Cup. He has already played in multiple T20 leagues around the world. So yeah, that's a very, it's a rare club to be in a World Cup, two World Cups, 20 years apart.

21Yeah, Jim, is there anything you, have you got to check your bloodline out and see if there's anything, if there's any sport you can represent some other country at? Unfortunately not. Yeah. I've got Scottish blood in me, but it's a long time ago. Oh, so maybe... I think my great-granddad was Scottish, I think. What, so could you play for Scotland in a T20 World Cup? It's got to be two generations, I think. Okay. It's got to be a granddad, grandma. Okay. I've got to say that the team of the moment, to get into would be the Nepal team. But looking at their bowling, I don't think you'd get in. Cheers.

56It's a good point, yeah. I don't think I'd get in any team in the World Cup, to be honest. Yeah, you would. Thank God. Hey, come on. Don't be down. What do I know? I'm only taking a piss. Don't listen to me. I'm an idiot. Look, let's move on. I just want to quickly say thank you to Outlaw Vintage UK, who having very, I feel like I only said it for a split, second um said wayne madzini or or some version of that they've already made a t-shirt with capitano d 'italia wayne madzini and i just want to give credit to sharky because sharky text that before the record i did not come up with what sharky what did you use what was your phrase for wayne madson if he was italian i faded up yes you faded up was it way no madzioni

45he's changed it again he's changed it again can you make it slightly south african as well is there any way you can put us little oh i don't know but actually just one boring fact way on about players and countries and not visiting mark bircham formerly of qpr he played for canada at international uh level but had never visited canada before he got his first cap so that's a that's a boring fact for you thank you for thank you for in fact that's not boring that's great we love we love this is tail enders it's a it's a cricket podcast we love boring stuff anyway yeah the guy the guy is called john john smuts and he's the guy who qualifies through his wife's italian ancestry he's got citizenship and a passport but he's never been to Italy.

36Okay. Well, you should make a visit there. Go and see the concert. What a life. What a life. Anyway, speaking of international sensations, I've got a quick Fon Buntian update before I actually get to the quiz. Gideon is in Cambodia and is trying to track down the elusive Fon Buntian. First off, he does want to correct our pronunciation, which seems to be the theme of this episode. It should be PON BUNTIAN. so it's pon bun tian okay yeah so pon bian pon bun tian secondly he's messaged the cambodian cricket federation to see if they can help but so far no response however during his investigations he did come across a player called geddy priandana who during a match for indonesia against cambodia took the remarkable figures of um one over no maidens one for five including a wide there's that five one we get for five runs or yeah you got you got you got five wickets for one run all right and that was a wide okay which is which is pretty good yeah and the other four was a wide anyway so well done to geddy um and that's the pon bun tian update for

Have you bought one? thank you for asking jimmy um i have bought my i bought my old one nice i did consider it because i thought i might buy one out there do you know the thing i've failed out here is i thought i was going to have like a moroccan guitar adventure yeah and i just haven't been able to find like guitar music really like there's um it's called this is going to be a pronunciation episode but there's a type of music called toreg i think tower egg that's a car in it which is like um which is like what car what car is that are you thinking volkswagen touring isn't it right yeah that's maybe that's maybe why i haven't found it because i think i've been looking for a car it's like desert blues like saharan desert guitar music and i just thought i thought it would be like in my head it'd be everywhere but i can't find it i'm only in taxis and like this there's an instrument called the oud but but they don't seem to like have concerts.

49It's all in restaurants, like people. So I'm sort of like, I haven't, I've failed at my guitar adventure, but. Have you taken it down for dinner? Talking about playing in restaurants? No, but the Dutch couple, the Dutch couple after our meal were telling the guy playing tabula, but I was a musician. And then he was like, well, come bring your, go to your room, get your guitar, bring it back to the Indian restaurant. I was a bit like, I can't, I'm not like David Brent walking back at my acoustic guitar to jam. Yeah, you are. That is, yeah, you are. That's, you need to, that was the adventure. I know, but I suddenly felt shy, but it was like, what am I going to do?

29Jam in a corner of this Indian restaurant with this guy on Tabla. Yes. Yeah, but maybe, yeah, maybe that's exactly what I should have done. Yeah, I got shy last minute. Hey, there's always tonight. Call that Dutch couple, get that restaurant booked and get down there with the guitar. They'll say, are you bringing anyone? They go, I'm bringing someone very special tonight. Table for two, please. Then plug that on there. Have you ever named a guitar? Do people name, do people do that? Not really. Not really. I think people like Santana do, don't they? Do they? Yeah, I think Santana maybe like named a guitar.

03I think it's probably seen as quite a pretentious thing to do. Yes. I thought it might be. Do you name cricket balls? No. Cynthia? Craig, do you name microphones? your favorite microphone radio one before you don't name microphones i don't name microphones i don't know headphones and i don't name cars a lot of people name their cars don't they i don't really i don't i don't get that so much no um what would you call your guitar if you had to pick a name for it i don't know what do you think i can live with it if you're dusty dusty why does it look dusty i don't know it's a bit like oh well it's a bit sort of you know yeah i don't know rusty people people can people can suggest something i call this guitar i'll tell you what this is a good radio link i'm about to do dutch couple dutch couple is quite a good name for a band isn't it dutch couple is quite good and i told the dutch couple about my friend in england who has invented roll up shoes

05where is he why is his microphone not working what's he where's he gone i did tell him some reason i told him about matching why how did he take it he started a fitness company he was quite entrepreneurial so i was like oh i know a guy who had this brainwave about the shoes they thought it was very impressive but i quite bigged it up like i made it so i mean it is impressive yeah i made it seem like like he was a multi-millionaire from from his business we don't know that he's not and maybe he is all right it's here hello hello hello oh wow hello god what's happened to your voice got a bit of a chest infection guys but I'm here don't worry oh mate how are we oh mate better than you mate how are we yeah good Fee stop stop Fee stop with the the fake sympathy playing guitar in Marrakesh and I'm so sorry to hear that mate match i was just telling everyone that i introduced i i was boasting about you to some new dutch friends about your entrepreneurial business oh nice thanks mate did they did they buy any shoes good question i don't know they might well you need to do something you need to do some roller clogs don't you if you want to get into the into the dutch market could you make sort of foldy wooden clogs probably not that i don't know maybe with Like a hinge.

32Yeah, that could work. Hinge. So this is what, this is the difference, right? If Matching had gone to dinner, if you'd have gone to dinner with a Dutch couple and one of them was an entrepreneur as well, you would have pivoted your business to roller clogs. That's what I think would have happened to you. Yeah, you would have done, oh my God, Matching, you would have been, I was wasted at this dinner. You'd have had so many ideas at this dinner. Are you having fun out there? I'm having a great time. Thank you, mate. What's the food like? Yeah. food's fantastic you look quite you look quite um you look quite bronzed yeah i'm quite bronzed it's not like really hot but it's hot enough for me to be having a go at it you know what i mean nice like everyone's a bit like i'm the only person trying to wear shorts out here but yeah good anyway matching yes look you're not very well oh mate it's sunday afternoon yeah i I want you to get some rest, but I do really want a quiz.

30Do you have a quiz in you? I have a quiz in me. I've been working on it on my sick bed. It's quite, how would you describe it? Basically, we want to celebrate the T20 World Cup. Of course. But also we want to celebrate Valentine's Day. Right. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So this is quite a high concept. So you just have to go with me, right? Mm-hmm. Well, we always do. which you don't need to ever ask us to go with you because we always do okay this is a brand new original quiz that celebrates valentine's day and the t20 world cup welcome to international relations okay thank you for having us thank you for having us okay so this is how it's gonna go i'm gonna go on a metaphorical valentine's blind date with each of you great one minute all right yeah use your best moves yeah yeah but here's the twist i will be adopting i'll be the personification of an entire country that's playing in the t20 world cup right so you will essentially be going on a date for one minute with a country in the t20 world cup yeah i'm going to tell you a bit about myself on the first date you know tell you what i like you can flirt with me but by the end of the date you have to figure out which country you're on a date with great at the end of it so good at the end of it you should say we should go back to yours and tell me the country you think i am brilliant oh that's great mate that's unbelievable does that make sense does it wait till you hear the theme tune be practicing on the piano sounding like you're about to die he's actually on his deathbed i've just got a vision of you like 80 like i'm just still doing tail enders phoning it from hospital but anyway this is i've gone for a romantic song i've written a romantic song this is not ai sharky all right this is a sort of if i ever did a gig of my theme tunes this would be you know where you get your lighters out yeah so if you're near someone that you love give them a hug right now here we go ready there are so many t20 teams in the world but what if they were single girls have you ever blind dated a nation welcome to international

02relations oh i just want to close something up there it sounded like have you ever dated an Asian, but you said nation, didn't you? I thought that was wrong. It was nation, wasn't it? Yeah, I think Jimmy had the same thought. Yeah, yeah, I think we all did, collectively. Have you ever dated a nation, not an Asian?

24It's just, it's good to clear that up. Have you ever blind dated a nation? Yes. Welcome to international relations. Yes. Okay. Greg, I did send you some romantic music. Mum, there's a scary man with a chest infection singing, have you ever dated Asian in the corner? Because I've got a chest infection. Welcome to international relations. I've just seen that message and I'm sorry. Do you want to play it now? Well, that's just the romantic music when we're at the restaurant.

01Some atmos. Right. Okay. Yeah. Greg, do you want to come first? step into the restaurant yes lovely to be here what a wonderful evening great to meet you uh say how beautiful you look tonight thank you you're tall you're tall uh i think we'd be a great match because you probably noticed statistically i produce the tallest people in the world men and women sure i'm sorry i would you like to get a table or should we just stand by the door i know this is a bit weird but do you want some licorice uh i'm obsessed i consumed 32 million kilos of licorice last year more than anywhere else in the world i bloody love this look it's great it's great to meet you i was wondering whether we could just take our take our time a little bit before we dive straight in i mean we barely know each other and let's just have some licorice what do you what do you do okay um well i i i'm a big cricket fan um i've got a lucy cricket based podcast um how successful is your cricket team oh great question um uh well it's not my favorite sport you know i like football and hockey number one but um i have played for a long time i've qualified for over 550 over world cups kind of punch above my weight and beat your boys and Ireland in 2011.

27It says in your bio you're a DJ. I am a DJ. Are there any famous DJs from your country? Great question. They're the Venger boys. They're DJs.

41They're DJs.

46Also, also, I just thought it might be quite interesting then i invented the cd and the dvd player yeah are you are you gay

06because it's just if this is going to work can we order our starters first at least before we get into that i'm quite progress i'm quite progressive i was the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage so i'm just a bit progressive and that's right it's kind of important to me do you have um do you have a do you have a famous formula one driver from your country uh yes i do i don't want to go into that i tell you what i do love to do well okay yeah go on i want to wind this day up now because i've i'm i'm a bit freaked out by this person okay but go on yeah what's the next yeah go on do you like bike rides yeah okay unbelievably this is the netherlands and after that's so weird how did that happen with the dutch couple and the clock and roller clogs that's so weird imagine i started this whole thing saying but you weren't on the show saying i've been for dinner with a dutch couple oh wow and you just played out a version of my night sort of i swear i didn't ask you if you were gay different questions right now that's does this work as a concept felix nice to meet you are you gay

21um good questions really good i really like that i love the format i like how direct i like how direct you are as well i only got a short amount of time to get in all the facts you know felix you want to come on a date with me i'd love to go music do you want the music again yeah yes i'm so great to meet you oh it's so nice to meet you sorry am i am i dressed up i'm a little bit nervous i haven't i haven't done this for a while that's fine i've got a sense in my head i haven't done this i haven't done this since my wife died i was about to say

58sorry this is my first time since so it might be you have to go gently okay i've bought you some rhododendrons they're my national flower here you go thank you so much you look beautiful as well thank you do you want to um is it to redo this in english you can actually speak over 100 languages so whatever what is it c3po

22why are you all bronzed up and golden and talking in the weird um can i just say because can i just say because my wife was really and i do need you to be my sister she was she was really into cricket and i just need my next partner to be into cricket as well

47um great question i do i do like it my um my national sport is actually volleyball but i do play a bit of cricket um i actually got i actually got t20 status in about 2018 so I have started taking it seriously lately but sport wise this is a bit embarrassing I don't usually tell people this on the first date but I just feel comfortable around you but I've never actually won an Olympic medal are you gay?

21so what was the last name? what was the last name? what was your last what was your last big Olympic medal I can't remember I've never I've never won I've never won an Olympic medal okay another um another interesting fact about me I shouldn't brag I shouldn't brag about this but um I've actually never been colonized by a foreign power and I invented the pagoda oh f*** off oh f*** sake do you know what I've heard enough I know that we're 100 % perfect match for each other and you're just you're giving me physicality sensuality intellect should we go back to your house afghanistan how dare you that's not where i'm from no anyone else anyone else will take me home uh volleyball with someone with tall people no no no not yeah no not necessarily at all i'll tell you an interesting fact about me i'm actually one of the only countries in the world that goes by the Bikram calendar.

27For me, the year currently is actually 2082. I'm actually always living 56 years ahead of you. This is actually the 2082 World Cup. Any ideas? I feel like we've lost the part. I wanted to say Thailand. No, it's Nepal, guys. It's Nepal. Oh! Oh, it's Nepal. Our heroes, the cardiac kids. Okay. Legends. One more date. Oh, I'm looking forward to this one. Yeah. All right. Well, now it's time for one of the greatest ever bowlers has ever bowled in this sport to have a date with a nation. Wow. You are so much more handsome in real life. Cheers. I was going to say, do you mind if we get pizza? I bloody love it.

14I ate three billion pizzas last year. I can't help myself. It looks like it.

29it said um it said on your bio that you uh you microwave cheese on toast is that right i do yeah humble brag i invented the microwave

45nice what else did you invent oh well um great question one what i was going to say is you know if this becomes a thing, you know, you're a handsome man. You can change the subject. You'll never get away from me because I invented the GPS tracking system. You'll never get away. What else have I invented? Video games. Invented some video games. You into your cricket? Yeah, I dabble. Yeah. For me, I used to play a lot back in the day, but my very toxic ex showed me how to play. he had small man syndrome and then we broke up and I haven't played for years actually and then just started playing again recently but you know I'm ranked 14th in ODIs so not good any other questions for me?

37it's pretty good it's pretty good yes I've got more questions for you this is going well

50this reminded me of when daniela said she she said to you after three dates you're gonna have to say something yeah yeah it's not it's not for me but it's hard it's also hard it's hard trying to think of that all i'm thinking of is right where could this be and who's in the world cup yeah that's the game whilst also asking yeah but also being on a date yeah totally well um i'm not really concentrating matt i'll be honest yeah maybe ask him about best places to go as a tourist where should i visit well that's a great question the thing where would we visit the thing is about me i don't give away too much but i'm glad you're glad you're wearing layers because um I'm one of the only places on earth that contains all five of the world's major climate zones tropical dry temperate continental and polar yeah so what do you think maybe you know if you if this does become a thing you know and you speak to some of my exes they're gonna say I'm quite toxic you know that I like to get involved in other people's business but it's just because I care all right so should we get should we go back to mine um yeah if you want and where would that be should we go to italy no where what where should we go greg i think we're going to italy i think no we're going to america guys we're going to america i'm massive i've got all the five climate zones well that's the game you threw me off with pizza yeah i thought yeah i thought i've i just had it's a pizza Because I also thought that the GPS thing, I thought that Marconi was the guy who came up with GPS because he came up with radio and satellite and all that stuff.

41Well, my intel says it was America. Anyway. All right. Your intel, which is Google. Anyway, what do you think, guys? For a format. I love it. I mean, look, we're taking it too seriously. I love it. The top line is, it's amazing. It's incredible. I prefer to watch it than actually be on the day, if I'm being honest. So that's how I actually like to live my life, not say a lot and just watch other people. Okay. Shall I play us out? Yeah. And make sure you are enunciating properly this time. Okay. There are so many T20 teams in the world. What if they were single girls? Have you ever blind dated a nation?

26Welcome to international relations. International relations. lovely so nice thanks guys real yeah your chest infection brought an edge to it as well which I like actually so Phoebe from Friends I mean the other thing exactly the other thing I'm just having a little look at Marconi that wasn't he didn't but I mean he did do radio stuff but well which then ultimately led to GPS but pizza's from Napoli pizza's from Naples yeah I didn't say I invented pizza I said I ate 3 billion pizzas last year I've missed that bit oh sorry sorry because then I said what else have you invented three billion he's clever he's got the better of us I thought that's what you said do play along at home guys they will and I imagine they will have been they will have been they will have been great brilliant well I don't have any further questions I think this has been your honour it's been a pleasure to sit here and chat about that should we do the go wells and get out of here and let everyone have their have their lives back and we can go and have a Sunday afternoon watching some sport.

Paul's listened to the back catalogue, thanks for being up to date Paul. Ian was listening to TMS and it was the under 19 World Cup match featuring Matching's beloved Afghanistan when the ball went for four byes but also hit the helmet meaning nine was scored so five isn't the most you can get.
