In short

The episode is mainly about two things: (1) England cricketers allegedly being spotted at a Derby nightclub while under investigation, with Ben Stokes pictured outside; and (2) match analysis of England’s first Test win over Pakistan at Headingley, plus Bangladesh’s historic Australia Test win. Guests and backgrounds: Sir James Anderson (former England fast bowler); Felix White (cricket writer/presenter); Roshan Alam (Bangladesh cricket commentator and lifelong Bangladesh fan).

Key claims

Brydon Carse is under investigation after a reported nightclub incident in Derby; England won by 103 runs at Headingley with strong bowling and batting; Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue took five-wicket hauls; England should be more “ruthless” with big hundreds; Pakistan’s attack looked “pedestrian” without key pace and batters like Shaheen Afridi/Naseem Shah and Babra Zam.

Notable examples

England’s 409 total; Ben Stokes’ early wickets; Bangladesh beating Australia in Darwin with a dominant four-day performance; Bangladesh’s batters previously bowled out for 54 in a warm-up.

0:00Hello and welcome to Tailenders. Hello and thank you for having us on Tailenders, your weekly Lucy Cricket-based podcast. It's Test Match Week, which means I would like to start by going, Tailenders! Tailenders! La la la la la la la la la la la la la. Welcome to this Lucy Cricket-based podcast. This is GeForce Greg James. We have Sir James Anderson. We have Felix White. Go, cheers. We will get to the England victory over Pakistan in the first test in just a bit. We will also talk to Roshan Alam. As we promised, we'd get him on when we knew Bangladesh. Yeah, I'm enjoying talking to him. Bangladesh, we're going to beat Australia in that first test.

0:39And then the second test happened. But let's not worry about that. For now, we can talk about the first test. I want to talk about the no Northern Ashes. I want to talk about a little trip to see some county cricket. Oh, yeah. And I don't really want to start with this, but I feel like we should because it is a big cricket story from today the last couple of days England bowler Brydon Kass is under investigation after he was reportedly involved I don't know why I'm smiling in an incident I know why you're smiling where do you think the incident was? it was a nightclub in Derby on Saturday the England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed that the Durham bowler who is in England scored for the second test against Pakistan this week was seen with teammate Matthew Potts while former England captain Ben Stokes was also pictured but we now know that he's not included in that squad for the second test.

1:31The investigation has, it is, what do they say on telly? It's continuing at pace, much like is bowling. Oh, nice analogy. Well, I would like to offer a hot take. Go on, Em. I think it's very honourable and gallant that the England men's cricket team are trying to save the nightclubs of England. the United Kingdom, which we know are struggling. I think they might be the only people that still go to these nightclubs. And I want to know what is happening in there that's so alluring. I was going to say, they've got an insatiable love for nightclubbing and you've got to respect that. Does anyone in England love anything more than this England cricket team love nightclubbing?

2:22Yeah, well, clearly not. So that's... They love it. That's happening. uh don't really know i don't i don't really know i don't know what i think i love it i think i'm sort of with feet and i kind of love it because it's so i don't know if i do love it i i do know what i i hate but i had the same reaction as everybody else like what on that and then i was you looked on you know insta and x and all the things and everyone's like roll in their eyes and obviously it lets everyone write the pieces and so I felt a slightly ashamed that I had his first response but I am actually I am stunned I am stunned that their insatiable desire to need to be in nightclubs um I just don't it's a difficult one for Joe Root now because are we going curfew again now are we do we have we can't we can't go curfew Jimmy what are we doing what happens now what do we do now come on i don't know i was i was hoping you i was hoping you and fear just wrap this up you two chat about it be a little bit flippant about it and not really need a serious take from me on it um james i'm calling you james this is a very serious situation james when was the last time you were in a nightclub

3:47please go and pass Bride and Cass in the back Bride and incarcerated oh it's another squad member's gone down someone's oh god Ben Ducat's pissed at the roundhouse we got Dan Lawrence and Matt Potts this time it's like it's like when you go looking for Pokemon on you just go out for england cricketers in night well you you roll yeah roll a cricketer and then in the second column you go dan lawrence infernos

4:26i've got yeah i mean i'm in hitterdrome with sherry bashear and sam cook oh hang on where are they let me roll it sam cook he's at night tales in dalston

4:42oh god hang on Emilio Gay H2O's Bishop Stortford what oh god one of the best nightclubs going I might send the England boys there are we mentioning are we mentioning that Ben Stokes is turning up in this video oh or are we not mentioning that Sharky's just texting me to say H2O's is closed not when the England not bowling they will they will be they'll find a way all the good ones have closed I reckon just try to change topic well not if not if the England men's cricket team have got anything to do about it they'll be reopening nightclubs that'll be their new campaign it's a matter of what are jacks so yeah what what happens now oh I just feel bad for everyone involved it's just getting ludicrous why is Ben Stokes there again why is he why is he why is he even in the squad he's not even involved but joe must be like what the f um because no one can what can rob key and that lot say what happens now jimmy well

5:58the passion for it you've got to admire people that love doing stuff i mean it's it's not night clubs is it it's just they're celebrating a win and they want to they want to keep drinking so it's the only place that's open at that time yeah but you didn't play what you didn't play yeah they won against derbyshire oh it was okay yeah okay yeah yeah yeah it's so tricky but i i do i do feel like it's got to get to a point where if this sort of thing keeps following you around then maybe keep away from it i would yeah i would agree with so so that's probably right no but like if if you know if you're if you're a mate of of his or a teammate and he's been in trouble before and and he's just about to get back in the the test squad you may be like just like one o 'clock go that's probably enough in it let's let's get home we can go back to Durham and yeah but it's tequitas for 90p around the corner so and also pizza go-go does a lovely pepperoni with hot hot honey I can't do you have it what I mean I'm the other reason I'm reluctant to like talk about it is because I've I've been there where you're you're celebrating a win and you're looking for the next beer you're like we're not done yet we want to yeah we're having a great time we're on a high you know but you know like when i started there were no cameras and video you know there was no there were no nightclubs back when you started you know we were just down to the local dance hall dance to glenn miller and go home i wish that was the case but but that you could you could get into a mess in a nightclub and there'd be no yeah no i mean i'm not saying that anyone I no one got arrested I don't think like when I was playing but did you ever leave a nightclub in handcuffs yeah but yeah the point you're making though Jimmy which is true is that would you have done that if seven of the squad have been incidents on all occasions quite recently I'd be very wary of what I was doing I guess you'd hope so wouldn't you I just you're right though Jim someone should have gone you're playing at Lord's next week mate get to bed you've got your wish you're playing for playing for England again no one really knows what's going on yet who knows I mean it doesn't look great though does it what about I'm going to say what about this what if it's the biggest conspiracy since Watergate and actually all these England cricketers are getting tapped up they're not doing anything in the nightclubs because every single time it's like I don't really do that much yeah maybe I think I'm going to say it's a conspiracy where like there's going to be like six of the England team in the next few weeks like spotted getting in trouble in nightclubs and then Ben Stokes is just in the background just going making sure everyone gets in trouble I'll f***ing show you lot I'm taking you out there's that video which there's the video that everyone's probably seen of Bride and Cass outside the nightclub and then Ben Stokes little head pops around the door like where's Wally it's like it's it is sort of amazing comedy I feel sorry for everyone involved yeah imagine Rob Key getting that phone call exactly I feel so sorry for Rob what can he say what can journalists ask him don't go that far I don't feel sorry for him do you think do you think it's the that might be and we've had some big ones in the past but that might well be the biggest oh for f*** in the whole world in the history of the world in the history of oh for f*** it's a massive one isn't it yeah I mean, fair play to finding a nightclub in Derby that's worth staying in, is what I'd say as well.

9:51It wasn't. He got to get out there any way he could. Arrest me. Oh, God. You said, I feel sorry for everyone involved. I think we're all involved. So I feel sorry for all of us. We're sort of involved, aren't we? Because we've got to talk about it now. No, I just mean that everyone who's heard this story and who wants England to do well, we're all involved now. because actually, should we move on and talk about that win? What, the England win? Yeah. Yeah, I was just going to say like if that doesn't happen, we could potentially be talking about that Durham win. The fact that Ben Stokes got three wickets in his first four balls of that spell in the second innings.

10:28That's what you want to be talking about. That's what we want to talk about. Didn't he get 70 of about 10 balls or something as well? I think he got 50 of them. All right, well, Here we are then. Here we are. Here we are. All of that aside, and that will all play out. And Rob Key will have to work out how he talks to Nasser Hussein about it. But England won the first test against Pakistan by a very convincing innings and 103 runs at Headingley. It was one-sided. Pakistan were not good, but England were very good. And it wasn't a case of Pakistan just not being good. England were very good. and there was lots of very good bowling.

11:11There was lots of very good batting. Cheers, cheers. It felt like a very good team effort. Jimmy, I'd love to talk to you about Ollie Robinson in particular and Josh Tung with the ball, both getting five wickets in that first innings. What impressed you with the seam bowling, seeing as you are the most successful seam bowler of all time? That don't impress me. Yeah, I thought they were good. I thought they bowled really well. I found it interesting how, like, Ollie Robinson's now gone to, you know, we play against Australia where they all had the keeper up and now we see Ollie Robinson with the keeper up sort of thing.

11:51We're sort of going down that route. Yeah, it's a bit late. I mean, I've watched it and I just, like, yes, they bowled well, but Pakistan was so poor. Like, they really were. They weren't at the races at all. Baba Razan is a massive miss. If Shah Massoud doesn't get runs, then they look really thin with the bat. You know, there's no one really showing any fight. Shafiq, Shafiq. Shout out Shafiq. He's a nice player. He's a nice player. I like him a lot. I think he's a really nice player. But they're hanging their hopes on two batters. I think their bowling attack looks fairly pedestrian. Like Abbas is quality.

12:33Abbas is world-class. He's a fantastic bowler. but there's again as with the two batters there's a lot on Mohamed Abbas's shoulders you know he's got to front up and bowl most of those overs because the other two seamers I thought looked really unthreatening they needed seamers in that first innings in particular another spinner got five but it wasn't it wasn't spinning that much it was more a seam bowler's pitch so I do worry for Pakistan going into the next two games because I just don't see where they're going to how are you going to beat this England team because there is, I think in this England team, we saw glimpses of Jordan Cox, Dan Lawrence, along with the guys that have been around for a decent amount of time who are more, you know, you're probably more thinking that they can rely on them for runs, whereas actually the young guys coming in are doing well as well.

13:25I don't see where Pakistan, there's no chinks really that Pakistan can exploit with what they've got. Yeah. If that makes sense. It does. You know, I will actually, no one's criticised England, but I criticised the batters for not being selfish enough because four of them threw hundreds away. There were test match hundreds on a plate for Cox, Root, Brook and Lawrence and they didn't capitalise on that. So even if you're playing a lesser opposition, you've got to start being ruthless because that is how you beat the better teams is when you've got that ruthlessness, that ruthless streak. So they need to, next test match, if those chances come along, they've got to absolutely nail it.

14:11And regardless of how they feel about the opposition or the position of the game they're in, just ram it home with getting big runs. I'm really pleased to hear you say that because I had that sort of fleeting thought. And then I caught myself and went, oh, don't be ungrateful. We've just watched England score 409. But you're right though. It could have been 650 odd. It could have been 609 with big hundreds. And yeah, I'm pleased that I didn't want to be a grump about it. And I know you're not being a grump about it. I'm just, I didn't want to be like, because I think there was a lot of, I mean, Michael Vaughan's been on this for quite a while.

14:46He's been talking about wanting to see England bat for upwards of 110 overs 120 overs to try and post a really big score bat for two days type thing and England nearly did I think England maybe batted for was it 88 overs or something like it was we were getting there but you're right it would be nice I mean we're we're picking but you've got to pick haven't you because if you're no but I'm we're picking because I think we all agree that this Pakistan team England should win this series 3-0 and comfortably 3-0 yeah yeah But when you come up against teams like Australia, India, South Africa, New Zealand, you need that ruthlessness to go, well, I'm going to bat.

15:34It's going to take so much for you to get me out. It's not going to be a mistake that I made, which it was for Joe Roots. It wasn't a good ball for him to get out to that sort of ball. I think he'll be disappointed with. Dan Lawrence didn't get out to a good ball. Harry Brooks wasn't a good ball. They're not getting bowled out by Jaffas. And I think in a ruthless team, I see the same at Lancashire at the minute. Put a price on your wicket and make them bowl you out. Make them bowl a Jaffa to get you out. If they're not bowling Jaffas to get you out and it's your mistake, then when you come up against the better teams who are going to bowl more good balls at you, then it's harder.

16:13I think whenever you win a game, well, whenever you play a game, you look at it sort of objectively and go, what did we do well what did we not what can we do better for the next game i think that's just a little one two percenter that can take england to the next level i think it's true it reminded me a little bit of when ravi papara got three hundreds back to back against the west indies do you remember that yeah and in that aussie tour he just cut about in three found it impossible it was a little bit like that sort of thing like go and get your runs now type situation well they were talking about that on the um on the commentary just like this is this is when you got i think cook called it go and get your career runs yeah nice go and get your stats up go and do a big perfect example the perfect example if you give him a day a pitch an attack you know conditions that suit him he will go you are not getting me out today i'm gonna i'm gonna get 250 i don't care he wouldn't care if if it's, you know, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, South Africa, Australia, he'd go, right, these are my conditions.

17:23You are not going to get me out today. Yeah, we do. It's going to take something really special to get me out. Yeah. Joe does that. Joe can do that. What's happened? I probably should know this. That's really lazy on my part. But what has happened to Shaheen Afridi? I thought you were going to say I was to cook then. He retired years ago now. I'm aware of it. I'm listening to him every day. Shaheen I don't know if I've got to cook Nazeem he wouldn't be in a nightclub Nazeem Shah and Shaheen Afridi what's happened to them in that Pakistan attack because the last time they came it felt like if you put them with Abbas yeah that's a really good attack yeah that's exactly what they were missing I don't know like I know there's lots to the selection in Pakistan because I know Abbas bowled really well in the West Indies on their last tour and then he got dropped for a game, a game which they won, but still I feel like he's their best bowler.

18:18You go, right, he's first on the team sheet from a bowling point of view and we then work our attack around him. And, you know, when you've got someone like that who you know has got control, got skills, then bring some pace in. Who are the quick bowlers that can support him with something a little bit different? Harris Ralph. I don't know what's happened to him. I don't know why Shaheen Shah-Afridi's not in. Yeah. I think Nassim Shah's had injury problems they might both have had injury problems Shaheen Shah Afridi had an injury and then they were worried when he came back he was slightly off his pace and they weren't that confident in selecting him but you'd still think he's a better option.

19:03You'd take an 80 % Shaheen Shah Afridi. Yeah exactly I mean he's only 26 yeah so he should be he should be leading that attack with a bass no question there was a small sadness hopefully they'll come back and play much better in the second and third but small sadness even like the not the ones you did the eras of pakistan you don't necessarily remember as as well and we don't talk about as much even though sort of misbar or hack sort of eras and you aren't like they were still had always have three or four or five great characters who are great test match cricketers and it feels like maybe the first time i can remember in my lifetime that they've come here and it feels like, oh, who's the guy?

19:43Yeah, I mean, I remember the middle order in particular of like Mohamed Yusuf, Mizbhar. I remember him winning at Lords when he did the press-ups. Yeah. They just had a real sort of, if it wasn't one person, that someone else would turn up and get the runs. They just had reliable players in there. And I do think that Babra Zam is a massive miss. But again, you know, I don't know how different it would have been if he'd have played. And again, like you look at other players in the team, Saru Chakil, like he was someone that was really hard to get out when I played against him. But he looks like he's not the player he used to be or started out in Test cricket as.

20:22Maybe he's been figured out, but they just, they need three, four, five players that are going to go, right, we're going to do it today. And none of them really stood up during that few days. because Usman the spinner he bowls some great balls isn't he but he gives you one or two four balls and over literally yeah so Lawrence and etc are sweeping him I will quickly say I'm happy for Dan Lawrence to get back in I mean it was probably a nice gimme to get back in about six in that test but I had a fear for Dan Lawrence that he was going to be one of those players that we just didn't quite know how to treat how to handle wouldn't find a way for him back in there was that thing of him sort of losing his head and opening the batting and just being sort of basically thrown on the bus so i do feel happy just but but under joe it feels like we're going to try and reintegrate a few of those personalities because it's just nice watching dan lawrence bat for england it's just really is it's just good isn't it it just you just want him to do well you weren't saying that when he played for essex

21:25i like him slightly less now that he doesn't play for essex So I was just looking at Shaheen's stats. So up until he got injured, because he dived on the outfield in Gaul and injured his knee, he was averaging, he got 99 wickets at 24.86. His next 27 wickets after the injury cost over 40 runs a wicket and his strike rate had shot up to 67.6. So he's struggled ever since. They were just worried about that. But I do think that, you're right though, Jim, it is a shame you want to put him in because also his age and also Nassim Shah one of my favourite bowling actions I think ever I know he's not even 24 yet he's had stress fractures I think I think he's had injury issues that's a real shame but I do feel like they needed some pace in that attack it was too pedestrian that attack and Nassim Shah averaging 35 in tests which is why they were worried but again as Jim said you'd sort of keep him around surely well look Lords is happening on Thursday whether Bridencast likes it or not and that is it's such a shame that that's going to be everything they talk about in the lead up now oh my god so annoying again isn't it talking about that we've been having the same chat now for six months it's going to be that chat they're going to have the exact same chat again aren't they yeah it is it's going to be people calling for everyone's heads and everyone's sort of huffing and puffing I don't think it will I don't think it will do you not?

22:58do you not think? I hope well I don't know because I really enjoyed by the way I really enjoyed the test match being back I loved I mean we talked about the Bangladesh test in a second which we'll get to I just loved having some test cricket back and just hours and hours me and Bella were driving around the country we were chatting but also I had one earpiece in just keeping that was my constant she knew about it she knew about it no but that's fine it's just nice because it's just sort of just lovely chatting in one ear and Bella in the other one you can walk in and out in two different rooms but in your head exactly in one room and in the crickets in the other yeah so that was really nice and i thought tms was on good form and i just loved watching the sky highlights and i just loved just loved i fell asleep i had you know that late afternoon one i had a little snooze i fell asleep for 45 minutes and when i woke up no wickets had fallen

23:50lovely so nice the same cannot be said for the bangladesh australia series which Which is truly mad. Let's cross to Rochelle Alam, who is a, well, I don't know how you're feeling, Roch, but as a lifelong Bangladesh cricket supporter, a lifelong cricket fanatic, like all of us. How are you doing? How are your nerves? Well, I guess in a weird way, you sort of would quite like one of the Australia team to be put in handcuffs. Maybe Mitch will start. do you know what the cricket was starting at 1am so every time i dozed off for a nap in the second test we'd lost several wickets there was the polar opposite to you felix meanwhile bryden cast and ben stokes were at one o 'clock they were heading into a nightclub in derby yeah maybe they were showing maybe they were showing bangladesh australia in there maybe that's why they were there that should be the excuse and maybe they got upset because they thought the wicket was doing too much maybe that's what happened so bro we said that we would get you on when and it was when bangladesh beat australia in darwin and that happened let's not worry about the second test let's not let's not that again that's a blip that's a blip for the tigers but how do you sum up that victory against australia uh it was bangladesh's greatest ever test win i don't think there's any debate whatsoever um that you know there are a number of amazing wins for bangladesh new zealand at mount manganui england australia at home but i've never seen a test performance where bangladesh dominate every single session over the course of four days i can't i don't you know in 26 years of following bangladesh never seen that yes i've never seen like people play out their skins our bowling attack dominate the way they did um our batters turn up having been bowled out for 54 the week before in a warm-up match, just really turn it around with their backs against the wall.

25:57It was a complete performance. And I think the circumstance, the lack of test tours to Australia, the odd selection of a location, all of that just contributed to this incredible narrative. And what a win. Come on. The whole world was happy with that. It really was. It was delighted. I'm just so grateful. it's it's one of the great joys of our lives watching australia lose i i have to say i love the amount of hate watching that was going on and there was a lot of hate watching i was like my phone was blowing up from people who i didn't know had an interest in uh the bowling of hassan until about a week ago to you i've also got to say how much i love the the daizen daizen app Dazen what is it Dazen Dazen Dazen whatever it is Danon Dazen they f***ing lucked out with that haven't they they picked up the coverage of Australia Bangladesh for about five pence and then and suddenly everyone's downloading the Dazen app Dazen Dazen to get free free highlights come on sensational well I keep getting emails now about watching the Moses versus Hergovich boxing I don't give a s*** about that I'm only here for Bangladesh Esh, you're being deleted in three or two weeks.

27:21That's how they get you, though. No, they won't get me. Cricket. You won't get me paying to watch boxing, let me tell you. Have you guys seen the trophy off the end of this series? So obviously they have to share it. Have you seen it? No, go on. I haven't seen it. It's not a moose cup, is it? It's a chopping board. It's what? It's a chopping board. It's a chopping board. What's on it? What's on the chopping board? They appear to have glued on a little crest, I assume, with the test concert oh dear oh no oh that crests that's that's going to collect crumbs what's what's horrendous is that they obviously make test captains now come out for a little photo opportunity they had to make they'd put their whites on to go and have a photo with it yeah it looks like they're launching new kitchenware it looks like a saint it literally does i i i don't know i don't know what happens when you share like a test trophy or a serious Jimmy what happens is it shared custody is it good question I have no idea yeah I've never seen a trophy in my life even when we've won one you know mate you did we did a tail enders live of the moose cup you had it on you oh from shranker yeah no I didn't have the moose cup you did no I bought it did I yeah you bought it onto don't you remember you had it on camera I think you borrowed it for the episode the moose cup with the horns or what about the one that was is a biscuit what was the biscuit one do you remember that one it was literally a golden biscuit i do remember yeah i think that was was it a pakistan home series of some stuff yeah i think bilateral cricket has too many trophies though doesn't it like if you have a multi-format series that's three three trophies where do they all go so what so yeah so who's sharing what's going on the chopping board then is that being shared well i'm hoping in sort of honor of the darwin pitch that they cut it in half across the horizontal way and take it yeah take half each is what i'm hoping yeah so you can both do spring onions in your own time i've um i forgive it to bangladesh give them the chopping board while you're talking about chopping boards i um forgive me i wanted to work out how to actually pronounce the name of that app the zone it's even more embarrassing than that i was saying it's the zone the zone that's so embarrassing like in the zone yeah that is the most embarrassing they should be ashamed of how do you not know it was that have you never heard of it before i obviously never i've seen it i've never said it i've just never i've never said it i can't believe how many times i've said design on this podcast but yeah it's but it's like as in da zone like get in da zone all right i don't know um anyway can we talk about the second test or are we gonna pretend that didn't happen no darling it's fine i'm okay with it joe rarely have bangladesh been bowled out so cheaply twice and i felt okay about it i genuinely i was like well we just chill we've lost my innings but that's fine we darwin guys did you say they got bowled out for 54 in a warm-up before as well yeah we got we got bowled exactly this is an improvement so wait three times out of four they've been bowled out for under 100 and then once they've just played like literally generational out of their skins basically yeah i mean they were just undone by like the extra pace and bounce they they just reverted back to kind of horrendous form and i think like the only kind of good thing about that that test was that our bowlers gave us something to sort of play for they kept us in the game they didn't drop their shoulders so you know there's one good thing to come out this tour it's that all the hype that the Bangladesh pace attack had been given going into it lived up to that expectation.

30:59So I think we all came out going, do you know what? South Africa, West Indies, England in the next 12 months. Bring it on. Yeah, come on. England at home in February. But also we like, there's so much in cricket at the moment, Test cricket, especially at our age, where you're like, oh, you know, Australia won, but it only lasted two days. Is Test cricket dying? England have won, but Pakistan haven't got any players. It goes on and on and on. but Bangladesh just gave us that little bit of adrenaline and belief and love for the game and we'll remember that forever that test match you need those moments to be happening every year please do go on Jimmy Anderson the best sorry I thought you I've mistimed that horribly which is very much like my batting I would go as far to say as if I think that Bangladesh bowling attack would have out bowled Pakistan's bowling attack ahead in that test match if they got an opportunity to bowl on that wicket.

31:54He was doing a bit, did a bit throughout the whole test. I played against Hassan Mahmood at Blackpool when he was playing for Kent. And I was talking to Adam Holyoke, actually, who was the Kent coach, and he said he was that desperate to come and play county cricket. And Adam Holyoke was like, we can't pay a lot because we've not got loads of money. He's like, I don't care, I want to come and play. And he was so impressive, that game. I don't think anyone took him for granted, but I was surprised at how good he was and how well he bowled. Nice. Me and Roche were chatting on during the game about the Shorafal Islam ball to get rid of Steve Smith.

32:33And then you were offering up some gossip about him, Roche. Do you want to share? So Shorafal, they're in talks basically to try and get him at Kent as well. There could be a situation where you have two Bangladeshis bowling from either end at Canterbury. Imagine that. As a Bangladesh cricket fan, that is super exciting. my understanding is that they're trying to get a little no objection certificate off the board who famously not that good at email so could be a while not that good at email i think i think they're a little bit worried that nahedran is injured sure if it's just come back from uh it's like greg and his da zone app like in in the middle of all those emails there's like because there's this one from the cricket board saying rob key oh no it's just because it's it says Rob Key says, do you want to get into zone with me?

33:18Oh, I've missed it. Oh, no.

33:25Jimmy, how did, don't change subject, how did Newman Alley get on at length? Newman, yeah, he did well. It was a tough game, really, because we didn't play great. We got balled out for 130 twice. We bowled first, the conditions didn't suit him, and then as the game went on, the conditions were better for him. but they were way ahead of the game so they could play more freely than they probably would have done if we were ahead of the game. So yeah, I was really impressed with him. I don't think he's played a huge amount if at all since May, since he played his last Test match. Right. So, you know, he's someone, he's just, he's solid, like he's a really good bowler, a really clever bowler and I'm hopeful that he'll be able to contribute throughout the next five games.

34:09Nice. Roshan, thank you very much for joining us. We've loved having you on the last couple of weeks. We have. episodes can we can we get you on for the for the series decide oh is it hang on was it two was it three no contractual obligation two tests we've shared world test championships that's why the trophy it's a shame yeah oh that is a shame but look we'll get you on um again at some point obviously because we love having you on and um england in bangladesh in 2027 and then and then the one at lords as well three times a year i can't wait do any of the bangladesh team Do you reckon who's the most sort of connected in the city?

34:44Maybe, you know, who's big on campus in Chittagong? Could you maybe get a nightclub sorted for the England boys the night before the death? I will look into it. I think they might close quite early and not serve alcohol. I don't know how that conversation will go down with the England team. I'm sure they'll find a way.

35:04Roshan, thank you very much. We'll speak to you soon. Go well. Cheers. Cheers. All right, let's rattle through the next bit because Felix has got to get to the cottage. Fulham, Chelsea. Don't know the score yet. I will know the score when this podcast comes out and the score was Fulham. Jimmy's their number. Two. Chelsea. Seven.

35:29If it's seven, two. Yeah. That's one of the great predictions. But I think it's probably more likely to be one, one. I'm going 1-1 my actual prediction what are we going to rattle through just want to say big go well to everyone that all the tailenders that were in attendance at Gloucester versus Worcester at the Cheltenham College ground popped along there yeah lovely were there some tailenders there there were this guy's county cricket full of anoraks tailenders the world unite and take over that's the home any county cricket game is a home game for tailenders there were so many nice people there it was quite interesting game actually on that day three there was a really good bit of rebuilding from gloucester and then they managed to get sort of set worcester about 260 or something to win on the final day and worcester just blitzed it but in about 50 overs it was amazing no way it was it was really really good chase how many down uh one wow one down yeah there's a couple of big hundreds anyway a lot of county pitches that are flattening out aren't they yeah the first day I apparently, I spoke to, who did I speak to?

36:36Michelle, who knows matching. And she's a big Gloucester fan. And I said, it looks flat as anything out there. Just thought it was a really lovely day for batting. It was really warm and just dusty. She said, oh, I was doing a bit on the first day. And then it just must have just flattened out. It was an absolute dream. But really nice. It was at the Cheltenham College Ground, which I guess is part of the private school. The outground, yeah. It's part of the festival. Nice. 12 pounds a park, 28 quid for a ticket. Almost. How much? You're joking, aren't you?

37:10Lots of kids there, though. They were sort of playing cricket around the boundary and nice atmosphere, nice people. Really good. Gorgeous. Terrible PA system. Could work on that for next year. Was it like this? It was genuinely, it was like this.

37:33just quickly i did see that you had found the roller and super supper oh my god yeah yeah shout out to the ground staff at that college ground that's a posh school isn't it so that that that level of equipment there they had a there was a thing called a roller for the kids they had a blotter they had a proper blotter right and they had um a big heavy roller okay and a lovely i think a john deere uh sit on mower did you ask to see them or were they just out or did you just go and just on display just proudly in the sunshine just glistening no need for those that super sopper

38:20come on I've got to go and watch pull them lose 7-2 to Chelsea oh sorry what else are we doing oh yeah no northern tests wind him up watch him go Jimmy Anderson disgrace embarrassing

38:38that is bad though it's a shame it's a shame this is the ashes by the way so this is 2027 Ashes next summer it's going to be Lords, the Oval, Trent Bridge Utiliti Bowl in Southampton and Edgebaston I think I've had this issue throughout my playing career really it's not necessarily no northern test the thing that as a player you want to play where the team is successful because like we went for years and years we went to Australia and I know they've probably not got many other options of where to play yeah yeah yeah well they have the whole bar they have but like darwin when when whenever we went it's like brisbane number one like you you're not you're not winning the first test because you're playing in brisbane where they never lose like stuff like that you're just like oh right it's it's brisbane it's adelaide sessions perth yeah and then it's melbourne and sydney to finish it's just like tradition it's like that that is what happens and i feel like we're just i know we're trying to spread it around and and whatever but i i feel like you know you look at england's record at heading there you look at england's record at old trafford i mean like why are we not playing australia there but we don't think that way do we we think where's the money well i don't know but actually that's completely scandalous but it feels like we put on test for those reasons rather than like we got a win.

40:06Because we are all complex human beings, we are able to hold two things in our heads at the same time. Multiple things, I'd say. I am sad that there is not a test match more north than Trent Bridge. And I'm also happy that Southampton gets an Ashes test match. I think there's lots of people who live deep down south and everyone lumps London in with the south. London isn't the south. There's like the south-south, which is Devon, Cornwall, the far reaches of the coast and actually having a test match in Southampton will be really a Nash's test will be really good for Southampton that is good and I guess if you took one away from like a Lords or over and be like you can't take a why but yeah well I guess you could say why let's go and play a f***ing day and a half test match at Lords again I think one a year why do I have to play two a year at Lords one a year is fine and I know everyone there'll be people that hate me saying that but yes there's got to be Test Cricket at Lourdes because it is Lourdes like the greatest place to play but do we need to play two there?

41:09Can we not you know make it more special and we always lose there and do we need to play two at the Oval? Can we play one series you know if we're a split series three and three can we play one you know one of the three at Lourdes one of the other three at the Oval? Only one at the Oval this year Is there? That's a joke

41:33but England have won seven consecutive times at Headingley and it does feel strange not to have the two the two famous Ashes memories in all of our lifetimes yeah beyond our lifetimes Headingley 81 and then Headingley 2019 yeah like two of the biggest two of the biggest most famous Ashes moments what about your favorite Ashes moments Michael Clarke leaving Simon Jones when the stump rattles on the ground old Trafford that is very good shame more the board of the century old Trafford yeah yeah yeah I might be slightly biased but I mean you could say loads things but yes this is it will be it's a shame and I feel for those grounds and everyone involved because that is their iconic test grounds nothing we can do about it though I don't even know who decides it who are these people that decide it they need to be accountable I'm surprised Andy Burnham hasn't got involved with that and said there has to be a Norman Test.

42:33All right, we've got to go. Sharky is wrapping us up and Felix has got to go to the cottage to watch 7-2. 7-2. One quick email about the lost chord. Tom has been in touch. Hi, G-Force. Felix, Jimmy, match the shot at the end of the movie. Just listening to the latest episode and the chord Felix plays at the start is C major 7. I don't think it is. That's C. Is that not, or is that C7? I knew someone was going to do that because we've got lots of intelligent listeners that have got a good ear of tuning. I don't, because I think the chord that makes it a seven is up a semitone, Tom. I might be wrong, but okay.

43:07I'm sure Tom knows better than me. Well, maybe not. Anyway, we've just dismissed that. He says it's nice and melancholic. It is. Be at home in a general cricketing sadness backing track situation. Oh, okay. Go well. Cheers, Tom. Go well, cheers. Someone has also messaged me saying it's the first chord on a Ben Howard song. Oh, do it again.

43:31I think that's what it was yeah that is that's

43:36I spent my time working working with my head I'm taking best shooting stars suddenly what's that song let your heart go let your heart okay yeah okay let me find it before we go because that's going to annoy me. It is this one. Keep your head up.

44:08Yeah, it's got almost... I think the high finger, I think it's more like that now. Oh, it's lovely. Not a million miles away. Anyway, you've got to go to the cottage. Right, we're back. No, I've got to work. It's called out now. No. And we're losing 7-2. It's 6.30. It's going to be 7-2. there's no test north of Trent Bridge Bridencast can't bowl solely because he's got his hands cuffed together Bangladesh got blown away by Australia England beat a not very good Pakistan side the Gloucester wish to the game at Cheltenham was too expensive and that summarised tale enders this week we're back on Wednesday there's your social clip Jimmy why are we at Lords on Wednesday

44:56we're there for some special occasion are you not allowed to say what it is yet? I don't know it's really funny sorry it's really significant and funny it's really significant and potentially very funny potentially there's going to be an unveiling of something at Lords on Wednesday and our next pod might not be just us either we might have some guests and also we we have we've workshopped this but we haven't actually tried it but the idea is for in this unveiling we're all going to do our own unveiling at lords so that's happening on wednesday um and then the test match on thursday we'll be back um just just before probably on the day of the test there until they come out and then we'll be back for their post-test debrief.

45:50Bye. Go well. Cheers. I think I worked it out.

45:58Is that it? Oh, f***.
