In short

Tailenders episode “Uno, Due, Tre, Quattro, Cinque” is a mix of cricket chat, listener emails, and a quiz, with a major focus on Wayne Madsen joining to discuss Italy’s cricket team ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Key claims

Italy’s cricket can grow via a World Cup “legacy,” and T20 allows “giant killing.” Wayne says Italy’s team is multicultural (many players from subcontinent countries living in Italy, plus some English/Australian-Italian/South African-Italian players) and that Italy’s World Cup qualification came through 2023 qualifiers in Scotland.

Notable examples

Italy’s cricket history (Milan once had a cricket club; AC Milan wore a commemorative kit with a cricket symbol), Italy’s likely pitch conditions (astroturf, dry/sandy feel), and potential upset scenarios (Scotland knocking out teams; England scare).

Guests

Wayne Madsen (cricketer, Italian passport via Italian grandmother; currently in South Africa/Dubai for World Cup prep). Main hosts/regulars mentioned: Greg James, Jimmy Anderson, Felix White, and “Matching” (Matt Pryor appears as a past substitute).

0:49Mattchin:Oh, who's that? Felix. Sorry, I shouldn't have jumped in there.

0:54Wayne Madsen:Missed you a lot last episode.

0:56Mattchin:Oh, mate, I've missed all of you very much. great episode fantastic loved it very much and yeah i missed you guys thought it was brilliant matching on very good form i thought all would be in great form actually in your life the thought

1:12Wayne Madsen:of one day you being substituted for matt prior i was i mean i was in a selection battle with matt

1:21Mattchin:prior well that's what it feels like now which dreams are made of to be honest with you i would

1:28Wayne Madsen:have taken that eight years ago all is right with the world it's all it's it's the ogs we're all back it's jimmy anderson it's felix white it's match in tendulka all produced by mark sharky sharnado shaman um and uh and i'm g-force greg james so jimmy's here we're all here later we're also this this is also very stabilizing we have maybe one of the most stable reliable not just cricketers but humans on planet human being men on planet earth wayne madsen will be joining us later on on the podcast so after the doom and gloom of the post ashes podcast the aim of this episode and indeed the next one and all the ones after that until one of us dies and we just wind it up or maybe we get replaced by matt bryer and it carries on it's going to be the antidote to january blues ashes blues end of the world blues all of it yeah so uh you're very welcome to tell enders and if you are a new listener from those youtube videos then you know you're welcome nice to nice to have you there yeah a bit more guitar on these what i wanted to do oh yeah and we want some more guitar what than the ashes episodes yeah

2:45Mattchin:Yeah, I got one. The thing is, I do like to be completely honest, I went down a little bit of a wormhole that we were basically exposed to YouTube comments on BBC sports channels. And I've definitely learned a lesson for myself that if I was in a selection process with Matt Pryor and was a cricketer, I would not be reading comments about myself because I do not have the mental resolve to see criticism regularly and deal with it. So that's why the guitar was put away. But it could be back out again now because we won't be exposed to that for a second, I don't think, Sharky. Go well, cheers.

3:20Wayne Madsen:We've got some great emails to come. We've got Wayne Madsen. We'll do your go wells. Matching's got a quiz, which you're going to play with. Main Wadsen, Wayne Madsen. Plus, I'd love to get the Main Wadsen, Wayne Madsen. Should we start calling him the Main Wadsen, Wayne Madsen?

3:40Mattchin:the main oh is it the main man the main yeah you're like the main you're like the main Wadson

3:45Wayne Madsen:aren't you the main Madson anyway we've got that we have a quiz and there's something I wanted to I wanted to wind back a couple of episodes in fact the episode that I was absent for over the Christmas New Year break

3:57Mattchin:oh yeah

3:58Wayne Madsen:Jimmy's Pub okay so we set that up and we said Jimmy's Pub what do we call it and I also love the episode that I wasn't on fee so I know how that feels just guess we like tail enders yeah yeah i this this functions really well that's what i had yeah this is way better actually i'm really well it's that's not true i really really loved some of the suggestions for the names of the pub so we had the match in which is good the match in the satch in tendulka arms the shouldering arms legless before wicket was all really good but i i actually when I listened to the you talking about it I went yes out loud to when someone sent in why you chirp in I think the chirp in is really really clever the chirp in

4:50Mattchin:I mean it's down to Jimmy really I think because it is his bar I'm not sure I actually I'm going to get a say in this I feel like I feel like we need to get Daniela on the pod for her to decide is she in

5:03Wayne Madsen:is she chirping

5:04Mattchin:no okay

5:05Wayne Madsen:Well, look, I just wanted to say thank you to that person who sent in the chirp in.

5:10Mattchin:Yeah, I think there was a few of those. Was there a few of those? I think there was a number of people that had that, which means it's a good idea.

5:16Wayne Madsen:Say to Daniela, you've got to give the people what they want. Yeah. And they're going to name a bar that they're never going to go to.

5:28Mattchin:You will never be invited. Maybe the person they named didn't come round for one. I don't think so. No. even less likely to be invited. Yeah.

5:39Wayne Madsen:Yeah, that's not going to happen, is it? I was thinking of a way of making that happen. That's not going to happen. Anyway, email for Felix while we're waiting for Maine Wadsen, the Maine Wadsen, the Wayne Madsen. Felix loved the episode with Matt Pryor as the Nighthawk stepping in to preserve Felix White. Lovely way of thinking about it. But when Felix did his cameo from outside the doctors, says Chris in Leighton Buzzard, did anyone else panic at the sound of a horn being honked and immediately worried that he was about to be hit by a bus again go well risked by a stranger yeah christened in buzzer do you want to recap that story just

6:12Mattchin:briefly for for new tale enders yeah so just when you were recording i was just i'd just been to a doctor's appointment where i had been diagnosed with post-viral bronchitis hence matt pryer had come in to keep wicket for me uh in her fifth test and i was so sharky was saying can you give us any sort of like sign of life that you are indeed alive and just 45 seconds but 45 seconds tight just 45 seconds alone on your ashes thoughts so I left a message outside the doctors and that was an ambulance going past and the what he's referencing there is that a long time ago I told you all that I'd been hit by a bus when I was 10 and then when I was lying on the ground a doctor came up to me and injected me in the wrist and we still don't know what that injection was i've had a fear of a sense ever since of being injected in the wrist by a stranger you said it was a doctor but it was someone claiming to be a doctor exactly there was no evidence that they were an actual doctor yeah hi everybody it's like it's like it's like it's like in my head now it's like matching in a doctor's coat with like a sort of stethoscope just being like

7:24Wayne Madsen:right now that'll be amazing because that would be a 10 year old matching as well imagine if it was matching and then 30 years later we all meet and that's the story he goes yeah but that's the

7:39Mattchin:thing i've got a fear now i've just got a fear of wrists exposed wrists that really is horrible for

7:45Wayne Madsen:me but for the bronchitis you weren't injected in the wrist no that was the under bronchitis

7:52Mattchin:and the wrist injection are unrelated incidents. And do you want Matt Pryor back now?

7:58Wayne Madsen:No, but I do want to just reference the face that's popped up on the screen in front of us. Ladies and gentlemen, it's the main Wadsen. It's Wayne Madsen.

8:09Mattchin:Hi, Greg. How's it going? Yes, mate.

8:12Wayne Madsen:Here he is. Very good to have you back, Wayne. It's lovely to have you on this episode of Tailenders. This really is, I mean, aside from Izzy Wong, this is the full complement of tail enders. We really should do an All-Stars episode where we get Ellie Oldroyd and Izzy Wong, and that's about it, on here with Wayne. So, Wayne, how are you? What's going on? It looks lovely and sunny where you are. You look Italian.

8:41Mattchin:I've tried to sport it. I've tried to sport the Italian look. No, it's great. I'm actually out in South Africa at the moment and off to Dubai for the World Cup prep on Saturday. Come on. So, yeah, it's a great place to be. I've watched a little bit of the SA20 while I've been at Archer and then just sort of got ready and been training Archer. We've actually moved Archer as a family for a few years. So, we're sort of basing ourselves here. Our parents, both my parents and my in-laws are Archer and we just, we wanted to spend a little bit of time with them especially for our kids at the age that they're at oh nice you're in one big house not quite much and not quite no we are close my in-laws are about 250 meters away so they're pretty close but not quite with us so you said that it's a nice place to be i'd say your life is just a nice place to be yeah you said about the world t20 which is happening

9:40Wayne Madsen:in India and Sri Lanka. 20 teams have qualified and this is where it gets really interesting and a lot of tell-enders will go, what? So we've got India, Namibia, Netherlands, Pakistan, USA, Australia, Ireland, Oman, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, England, Nepal, West Indies and Italy. Yes. Now, Italy are captained by someone who we love very, very much in this podcast. Who might that be, Wayne Madsen?

10:15Mattchin:Probably me, actually. Thanks, Greg.

10:18Wayne Madsen:It's unbelievable what gifts and joy you give us. It's a bit less feel. So, come on then. What's the Italian connection, apart from just wearing a blue shirt?

10:31Mattchin:So, my grandmother is Italian, and that's how, essentially, I was able to play county cricket on my Italian passport initially. So yeah, she actually passed away when my dad was pretty young. So I never got to know her. And our Italian roots were a little bit lost because, as I said, my dad was 10 at the time. So he never really got sort of brought up too much on the Italian side. But yeah, through my gran, I qualified for an Italian passport. And I was meant to play for them in 2012, actually, but got made captain at Derbyshire at the time. And Carl Cricken wanted me on the preseason tour rather than going to the World Cup qualifiers at the time.

11:07Mattchin:and so it kind of it's league cricket was put on the back burners well for both of us really they they i don't think they were too happy that i pulled out and and equally i i sort of didn't pursue it for a little while and then a few years ago gareth berg got in touch with me while we were chatting and and he said he wanted to wanted to help he was player coach at the time with uh with it's leon he said we want to qualify for a world cup uh would you be interested in coming and playing again so well i'll say again but coming and playing and uh so i went to the qualifiers in 2023 in Scotland. Fortunately, we lost to Ireland by seven runs and missed out that time.

11:41Mattchin:But I didn't go to these qualifiers now because our Derbyshire games sort of aligned with all of the Italy games and I wasn't released to go play. But beforehand, we had had a chat and I said that, yeah, I'd be available if we did qualify. I actually watched us qualify or didn't watch us qualify, but I was on the field warming up for the North Ends T20 game and I heard the news that we had qualified for the World Cup. So that's kind of how it came about for me.

12:04Wayne Madsen:brilliant so it's it's so good it makes you even better than we thought you were yeah i love you more for this it also solves a huge problem of i'd love to retire to italy one day that'll be amazing but i'd always i'd miss cricket but if you can do this for me and put cricket in italy on the map then the sky's the limit we can retire to italy and still enjoy cricket this is amazing how big is cricket i mean i think i know the answer but is it where where is the cricket in italy is it north south sicily where well well we'll be honest first they don't

12:47Mattchin:have a turf wicket in italy everything's astroturf um so everything's everything's vineyards or olives yeah okay now we're in the process actually of developing a new stadium and ground I think it's going to take a few years, but it'll be pretty close to Rome on the coast. So there'll be a nice spot there to come and watch cricket. No way. Obviously, the goal from the World Cup is for us to leave a legacy and try and reintroduce. I say reintroduce because cricket in Italy has a long history. I think Milan was started as a cricket and football club. Wow, really? Yeah, I think it does have a pretty long history.

13:27Mattchin:I think AC Milan wore a white kit recently to acknowledge there used to be a cricket club. What? Yeah. That's incredible. Was that last year? Yeah, there's a commemorative shirt with the cricket symbol and the football symbol.

Read the full transcript

13:40Wayne Madsen:Oh, I love that. That's amazing. Is that what the AC is? And cricket, Milan. All these years, I haven't realised. Oh, cricket. Also cricket, Milan.

13:59Wayne Madsen:okay this is sort of blowing my mind a bit don't this up for me Wayne make this happen do well in the t20 world cup please we'll have to beat England yeah I don't care about that I'm supporting Italy now I don't I don't care about England anymore Jimmy doesn't play they blew the ashes uh I need a new team I need some new excitement in my life I'm going to support Italy that's that's really exciting can we awesome let's try and collectively with a with a loopy left arm spinner a professional bowler and wayne madsen an italian native can you just maybe put your heads together and try and work out how an italian wicket might play i feel like it might turn might rag a little bit no

14:43Mattchin:quite dusty quite dusty and dry could be the first thing i thought is that it would be i think it would seem and swing because when i think of italian i think of elegance i can see people running in and hooping it slightly more go on wain what's the information for jimmy good spot for jimmy totally i can totally see jimmy running in in rome i don't know yeah when i've been in rome it's that as you say it's like that it's that dryness uh i think i actually think there'll be a bit of spin on offer come on just the the clay the clay the the color of the coliseum all of that so i just think if that's got anything to do with the color of the pitch cricket in the coliseum is not a bad idea is it that's great i know cricket in the coliseum yeah the real oval not an oval wait how let me ask a question how italian is the italian cricket team okay so we have uh we have quite a few australian australian italians yeah a couple of south african italians yeah we our guys who live in italy are mainly from the subcontinent So from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

15:50Mattchin:And then we got a couple of English guys as well. So we're pretty multicultural. How much Italian is spoken in the changing rooms? Do you parlo italiano? Non parlo italiano. Okay. We don't speak. We actually, we speak English because most of the guys are from English-speaking countries. The guys who are from the subcontinent all speak Italian. because they've lived there for sort of 10, 15. Some of them were born there. So they speak more Italian. And then one of our suffering guys is fluent in Italian. So he sort of translates the English to Italian for the guys if they don't understand. But most of the guys understand English anyway.

16:30Mattchin:Have you got a well good blue kit? We do. We do. I haven't got the new kit on me. We've got the Macron kit and it's going to look pretty sick for the World Cup.

16:41Wayne Madsen:Oh, yeah. This is my team. this is really this is excellent plus great lunches obviously amazing lunches

16:48Mattchin:great lunches oh my god I was going to nearly ask that are you going to eat spaghetti I can imagine Greg on a Ferrari roller oh I love that

17:01Wayne Madsen:so so much that maybe that's my dream life I just want to just go up and down on a Ferrari roller so the group is interesting you mentioned England but you've got Nepal West Indies Bangladesh Bangladesh. I love that Italy are going to play England. That's really fun. What's the team talk been like? Have you all had a little chat about realistic ambitions here? What are you hoping for? What does success look like to you, Wayne? Sucessi, as they say in Italy.

17:31Mattchin:Yeah, we want to win some games of cricket. I mean, that's the thing. The expectation from externally is not very high on the team. But like we know in T20 cricket, Greg, hopefully that starts spreading. Because that's the thing in T20 cricket, anything can happen. You just need a couple of guys to perform. We've got guys who play franchise crickets. So we've got guys who played at a high level that are sort of able to win games of cricket. And that's what you need in T20. Yes, we won't be necessarily as consistent as the other teams, but we've got Nepal who that's the the game we've probably really got a lineup for a win Bangladesh we don't know what's happening with Bangladesh yet the news sort of a week ago that they don't want to travel to India so we might get a forfeit walk over there we don't want that we want to play games but it could end up that that happens if they don't if they don't travel to India is from what we've been told that they're looking at whether it's moved to Sri Lanka but I don't think that's an option from what I understand and then West Indies I mean West Indies are such a dangerous team but you never know on any day they may sort of not really rock up and one or two of us put in performances and we could get a result there as well so it's exciting I'm not going to mention the England stuff but yeah it's we're going to go in there like realistically we know that we're the bottom ranked team going into it but I think that gives us an advantage that we can just go with freedom and express ourselves and enjoy ourselves.

18:59Wayne Madsen:Jimmy here's a scenario for you you find out that there's a long lost relative of yours that means that you qualify technically for another nation which nation would you be most happy with qualifying for

19:13Mattchin:i actually i have been thinking this as wayne's been talking i've been like i wonder if i should do my family tree and see if I've got a grandmother from the Maldives or something like that. I mean, I'd love to... Didn't Garen Jones play for Papua New Guinea? He did, yeah. He did. I think it... I don't know. Obviously, you can answer this, Wayne, but it must be quite exciting to play for an up-and-coming nation where cricket's not that popular or big in everyday life there, but you've got the opportunity to put the team on the map. You can cause an upset at World Cup. Playing on the bigger stage for a relatively unknown cricket team has got to be exciting.

20:02Mattchin:Yeah, it is. And I think that's a big thing that we keep reiterating to the team in the conversations that we have. We've been doing quite a lot of work with a psychologist around the vision and dealing with pressure and the situations and stuff. And the legacy bit is probably the biggest thing that keeps coming up and the opportunity that we have to grow the game in Italy and the responsibility that we have as players as well. And yeah, it's exciting if we can get a knock, well, knock someone out with a big result. You just, you never know. It's happened before. I mean, we knocked Scotland out of the qualifiers and Scotland have done it to other teams.

20:38Mattchin:They gave England the big scare in the last T20 World Cup. So yeah, there's certainly scope and opportunities for us to do so.

20:44Wayne Madsen:Fee, we've talked about this before, haven't we, on the podcast. The FA Cup-ness of a proper World Cup is what you want. And we've talked about how sometimes when you watch a World Cup and sometimes the 50-year World Cup, you go, oh, there's not enough teams in this. That's not a real World Cup. This feels a little bit closer to what we wanted, which is you want the chance of a giant killing, don't you? A hundred percent. And I was just thinking, actually, while Wayne was talking,

21:06Mattchin:that we can have tail-enders now watching Italy the way we've done in the past with matching. did it with Afghanistan matching back in the day yeah I was like let's get tailenders on board with this Italian team let's get your eyes on that because that feels like the real tailenders choice at the moment doesn't it supporting Italy in the World Cup and that has been missing from all those like ranking tournaments recently is that it feels like there's been about eight teams in it so you're almost watching a knockout of all the teams and players you're used to watching all the time and the whole point is being exposed to that so there's a story in there, Wayne.

21:42Mattchin:And I know you didn't mention England, but I fancy you against England. I fancy you against England, man. They bowl terrible areas. So, mate, you can capitalize on that.

21:56Wayne Madsen:Also, you will have faced most of them, Wayne. So you know what's coming.

22:02Mattchin:Yeah, I've got a lot of insight into most of the players. We sang it. You never know. You never know. Scotland gave England a skier at the last one. Oh, I fancy it. You never know in these things. I fancy it. My heart will be so torn. Mine won't be at all. Actually, it won't be. At all. Not in any way. Wayne, what other players we should look out for in your team? In our team. I should be focusing it on when we're watching. Yeah. So we've got a couple of guys. We've got Grant Stewart who plays for Kent. And he gives it a whack for us. So he opens the bowling and he gives it a whack. We've got a couple of the Menenti brothers.

22:41Mattchin:who play in the Big Bash. Harry's with the strikers and Ben's with the Sixers. And then we've got a leg spinner, Christian Fernando. He's definitely the one I would say you've got to look out for. If he can handle the pressure of it, he bowls up really, really quickly. He's got a good googly. So I'm excited about what he's going to do for us at the World Cup.

22:59Wayne Madsen:Fernando, that's a... I accidentally pressed the doorbell. That was me. I'm sorry about that, Wayne. I meant to press this. Give it a whack. Give it a whack. It's Angus Fraser saying, give it a whack. so I pressed the wrong one sorry

23:11Mattchin:it was like Noel's house party and he's here today while he's naming the flame

23:15Wayne Madsen:he's at the door what else have we got oh see that's I think that's the quizzical butler coming in isn't it in Country House

23:23Mattchin:that's the quizzical butler yeah yeah

23:26Wayne Madsen:that's fine sorry about that wash your splinters

23:32Wayne Madsen:this is summer at its peak Whole Foods Market Summer Fruit Fest is your invitation to eat the season Fresh, organic and bursting with flavor. Start your day with peaches and organic blueberries and yogurt. Build a grazing board with fresh fruit, prosciutto and artisanal cheese. Then fire up the grill with no antibiotics ever proteins and fresh produce. Savor the season. Shop Summer Fruit Fest at Whole Foods Market.

24:01Wayne Madsen:Test cricket and championship cricket, I think, actually does suit the Italian pace of life in the countryside. I feel I can sort of see cricket working with the Italian psyche a little bit. But then I guess, I'm not sure, I'm clutching at straws because I just want this to happen so much.

24:22Mattchin:I can picture, you know when, I'm going back a bit, probably 70s and 80s when cricketers wore the buttoned up shirts but buttoned up halfway. I can imagine people playing cricket in that style. That's it.

24:42Wayne Madsen:You know who would have been a great Italian cricketer? David Gower.

24:46Mattchin:Yeah.

24:46Wayne Madsen:I think he would have flown in, landed in Tuscany and just got out with a little sort of attache case and just gone and I think he'd have gone about his, but flanked by some beautiful Italian ladies. I think that's the dream. That's what's in my head and I think in Jimmy's head now. And it's up to you, Wayne, to make that happen.

25:08Mattchin:Have you guys ever been to a sporting event in Italy? Anyone done anything like that? I lived in Italy for a while. What?

25:16Wayne Madsen:about a year you probably could play for the T20 side yeah

25:20Mattchin:I lived there in Siena do you qualify maybe I lived there about a year in Siena when I was about 20 it's cricket doesn't qualify for it

25:31Wayne Madsen:you lived in Siena okay so tell us tell us what you what you make of the Italian way you must have watched some sport was there any cricket chat then

25:38Mattchin:there was no cricket chat I played for a football team there and just worked in a bar and fell in love with a good Catholic girl it was good fun Italy is the best place on earth it's my favourite place yeah I love Italy I speak a little bit I can get by in like a restaurant really? Palle Italiano un poco

25:58Wayne Madsen:did you mention that you fell in love with a good Catholic girl because you're worried that there might be a mini matching running around Siena somewhere

26:05Mattchin:I'll tell you a funny story I worked in a bar there was a woman that came in and she stayed there for two weeks with the sole purpose of finding a father. She just slept with a different Italian man every night to go back to America with the hope that she would be impregnated with a good Italian jeans. Italian child. And that is the Italian cricket team that are playing in the World Cup.

26:35And...

26:36Wayne Madsen:Wow. Not sure where to go with it. No, I don't know.

26:40Mattchin:Quiz? Why? Did she...

26:42Wayne Madsen:Well, yeah, I'd like to do the quiz. I'd like to do the quiz. That's what we should do. Let's do the quiz. Let's do the quiz. Let's do the quiz. Match it. Quiz.

26:51Mattchin:It's a true story. I always remember. What do you make me think? We know it's true. Go on. Okay. I've got a brand new quiz. Yeah. Yay. This is a brand new original quiz. Welcome to five is the most you can get. thank you for having us on five is the most you can get Wayne I was going to do a quiz about you it was going to be called Le Wayne's World and it was about translating it was about translating Italian cricket terminology back to English but oh yeah it didn't work because if you don't know Italian

27:33Wayne Madsen:it doesn't work can you give us some examples of stuff you could shout on the pitch if you're playing for the Italian team what have you got Eliminato what's how's that eliminato out

27:44Mattchin:that's out yeah that'll be out right eliminato del lancio that's bold yeah what about this leg before wicket I'm bold confine del campo confine del campo caught behind caught confine that's the boundary anyway oh nice we didn't go with it thank god we didn't do that what's what's what's how's that I did google that but there's not a direct translation. Wayne, do you know that? What would you say? You wouldn't know, would you? No one's Italian in the team. How's that? Yeah. How's that, though? So this week, I want to do a proper quiz, right? Because I thought we haven't really been keeping score recently.

28:30Wayne Madsen:Yeah, let's do a proper one. Yeah, let's do a proper one.

28:32Mattchin:So it's Greg and Wayne versus Felix and Jimmy, right? So I want to do it so it means something. So if you lose, I was going to say you have to sing the theme tune. you know each week we kind of post about the episodes and this week's episode is going to be, it's out now so if you lose someone on your team has to sing the theme tune on Instagram. Okay, I vote for Felix Okay Okay Okay

29:00Wayne Madsen:Greg, I think it's on you No, people would expect me to do that I think it needs to be you Wayne, sorry Okay, it's the sort of thing I would just do anyway so I think it needs to be you I'm afraid.

29:10Mattchin:You better not lose. I came up with this jingle and then I sent it very last minute to Max from Deco Band this morning. And he came back with this. Hold on. This is brilliant. Shut up. He's quick, isn't he? He is rapid. They were in the recording studio this week. Hold on. So he just knocked this up?

29:40Mattchin:One, two, three, four, five It's the most you can get Really good Wow He just knocked that up What, he did that in like an hour? One, two, three, four, five It's the most you can get It goes Brilliant One more than four Is the target I've set One, two, three, four, five It's the most you can get

30:00Wayne Madsen:Yeah That is really good I love it Okay I actually want to sing that anyway Out the window Okay we should try we should in our tailenders rules of cricket do you remember we were coming up with laws that's what you should have to sing if you get a five for yes you sing that at the batter you get out

30:20Mattchin:five it's the most you can get while they're walking off you just got your hand in their face yeah okay so Greg versus Greg and Wayne versus Felix and Jimmy so the game is simple I'm going to give you a question for example for example this isn't the question but who has the most test runs we all know who number one is that's Uncle Satch but I want you to give me the fifth on the list five is the most you can get so Rahul Dravid would be the fifth okay so if you said Rahul Dravid you get five points if you said fourth Calis four points Uncle Satch would get you one point anything over fifth place nil poise

31:00Wayne Madsen:great does that make sense? five is the most you can guess

31:02Mattchin:five is the most you can guess let's play

31:05Wayne Madsen:do you know what that is a really lovely format.

31:09Mattchin:Thanks, mate.

31:10Wayne Madsen:I don't think you've nicked that from anyone either, have you? I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not.

31:13Mattchin:It's sort of pointless.

31:14Wayne Madsen:No, I'm not. I don't think you've nicked that from anywhere. I can't think where that's from. Okay. Unless you can, Jimmy. No. Well, there you go. I think it could be his first ever

31:21Mattchin:original, original quiz.

31:23Wayne Madsen:Look what happens when you apply yourself.

31:26Mattchin:What?

31:26Wayne Madsen:Am I lying?

31:27Mattchin:It's not an original quiz. Oh, yeah. Oh, fair enough, fair enough, fair enough.

31:30Wayne Madsen:Well, yeah, but that's would I lie to you? That's called my bluff. Oh, Nathan Lyon, mate. Nathan Lyon and it's better than all of those things let's play

31:41Mattchin:five is the most you can get one or the four is the target I said one two three four five is the most you can get

31:53Mattchin:one two three four five is the most you can get okay do play along at home do play along at home okay I will no googling right Greg and Wayne you go first based on the current ICC rankings, who is ranked fifth on the Test Match bowlers? Five is the most you can get.

32:16Wayne Madsen:Okay, well Stark is at one. That's just come out. That's just happened.

32:20Mattchin:Sure really, has it? Where's Maharaj?

32:24Wayne Madsen:Couldn't tell you. Did he have a good time against India?

32:28Mattchin:Hama probably better. Hama.

32:33Wayne Madsen:but he won't

32:34Mattchin:he won't be up there what are we saying

32:37Wayne Madsen:are we saying Rabada are we saying Boomer Boomer's going to be two isn't he Rabada

32:43Mattchin:yeah he'll be two

32:44Wayne Madsen:okay let's just try so one start Boomer's going to be two he's going to be three who bowled well for Australia so you'll have Cummins you'll have Hazelwood probably won't be in because he's been injured Boland

32:56Mattchin:yeah he's been injured

32:58Wayne Madsen:Boland okay we've got to keep moving guys

33:02Mattchin:We've got to rattle through this.

33:03Wayne Madsen:Okay, who do you want to go for? Okay. One of them, I think. Pick one of them. I'd say a Boland, a Maharaj, or a Cummins. Maybe Cummins, because he might have slipped down because he's not been playing a little bit.

33:14Mattchin:He might have slipped. Yeah, okay. Should we say Cummins? Okay.

33:17Wayne Madsen:We're going to go Pat Cummins.

33:18Mattchin:Yeah, let's say Cummins. Felix and Jimmy, who are you going for? Oh, we're going for someone as well? Yeah. Oh. I was going for Cummins. God. I don't know, Jim. What do you think? One, two, three, four, five.

33:29Wayne Madsen:It's the most you can get.

33:31Mattchin:I'm clueless mate Mahraj might be a decent shout because he was up there before his last series but I don't know where he is he dropped off slightly because Harman took more wickets than him he didn't tell you that play it safe and go start get a point or try to think who else there is is Siraj not in there at the moment okay I'm going to have to hurry because Sharky's hurrying me which let's go you pick one and I'll sing we know Maharaj we know Maharaj come on okay I can tell you Boomba is number one Ali is number two Mitchell Stark is number three Matt Henry is number four and Pat Cummins is number five five points

34:13Wayne Madsen:yes Wayno yes

34:16Mattchin:I'll buzz him with that should have gone Stark yeah

34:20Wayne Madsen:should have gone Stark I thought they just announced Stark and Brooke thanks mate I thought they just announced Stark and Brooke has won already I've gone mad I might have gone mad I might have dreamt that okay

34:36Mattchin:anyway question two based on both division one and division two who is the highest run score in the 24-25 county championships remember Wayne you've got to know this remember five is the most you can get do you play along at home be careful because they'll be listening to your intel actually Jimmy and Fee do you want to go first on this four I should really not really it was Wayne the year before this is both divisions combined Wayne

35:04Wayne Madsen:I can't message, there's no way of messaging Wayne about this

35:07Mattchin:I don't know this but it's just left me I need to hurry along it's not James Rue do you want number 5? are you wanting number 5? both divisions combined I think people like Sam North East scored loads of runs and people like that not top 5 Oh Gonna have to hurry you guys Oh Jim I got one I know one Can we go Keaton Jennings I have one I was gonna say Jim I was gonna say Sibley I think Sibley scored a lot of runs Alright go Sibley then I think Dom Sibley will be third Greg Hang on

35:40Wayne Madsen:Wait are they locking in Sibley Locking in Sibley

35:42Mattchin:Yeah Right Wayne let's talk Let's talk

35:44Wayne Madsen:Let's talk I was gonna mention North East But Phoenix said Go on

35:49Mattchin:I was gonna say maybe Ben Compton I think he's got a lot of runs The last couple of years

35:52Wayne Madsen:If you wanna say Ben Compton I mean how many runners did you get last season?

35:56Mattchin:I got 1-1 last season.

35:59Wayne Madsen:You got 1-1?

36:00Mattchin:Were you not? 1 ,100. That's quite... Yeah, 1 ,100. That's called 1 ,100 runs. Where were you before?

36:09Wayne Madsen:I think it could be you.

36:11Mattchin:I don't think... I think you're just outside, Wayne, because you're in my fantasy team. I could be close. I could be close. Do we go Ben Condon or do we go Wayne Madsen? Sorry, did you just say you scored 1 ,100 runs? I think I thought Hamid might have scored the most runs Wayne do you think you're higher than five? No not higher than five my heart and soul is saying ok let's do it we've got to say Wayne Madsen we've got to do it combined first and second division number one was Zayib number two was Ben Compton number three was Dom Sibley number four was Hamid Number five was Leith. Number six was Wayne Madsen.

36:54Mattchin:Adam Leith.

36:55Wayne Madsen:No! No! Number six was Wayne Madsen.

37:00Mattchin:You've got 1 ,152 runs.

37:04Wayne Madsen:Oh.

37:05Mattchin:So, wow. Nothing for sixth place. We're going to, I'm being hurried along, so we're going to have to slip to the final round, which is question four. I'm being hurried along. Yeah.

37:18Wayne Madsen:Just call it question three.

37:22Mattchin:Why don't you just make four free of it? In the final round. Augustman. Just make 11 the highest. Okay, you're five to three at the moment. Okay, so it's all riding on this. Augustman is a men's luxury lifestyle publication based in Singapore. It's sort of Singapore's answer to GQ. It focuses on fashion, design and travel. Okay. In August 2024, they ranked the top 10 most handsome cricketers. okay 24 always 24 the exact blurb in the article was we have rounded up a lookbook of the 10 most handsome cricketers in the world in recent times who are not only stars on the field but also eye candies off of it please give me number five jim have you got i've shudman gill's got to be in there yeah greg and wayne's oh go on sorry Greg and Wayne first.

38:14Mattchin:Okay. Greg and Wayne's here first.

38:16Wayne Madsen:Wayne, look, huddle up. We're going first. Oh, great.

38:19Mattchin:What are you thinking?

38:20Wayne Madsen:I'm going Jimmy.

38:21Mattchin:Jimmy's going to be up there.

38:22Wayne Madsen:I think it'll be an injustice. When did you say it was?

38:25Mattchin:It was published in August 2024. Okay.

38:29Wayne Madsen:It's tough. It's really tough. Who are you thinking? Because you also put Rizwan in there.

38:33Mattchin:Oh, my God. Rizwan, don't talk to me about those cheat books.

38:37Wayne Madsen:You also put Siraj in there, I think. mean and sexy

38:43Mattchin:I think if he's an Aussie

38:45Wayne Madsen:well Cummins a Hollywood handsome isn't he Stoinus yeah sort of Jim bro isn't he but I think like classic you know classic Hollywood gonna have to hurry along please old nature cinema is Pat Cummins

38:57Mattchin:who said Cummins could be a safe one he could be a safe bet

39:01Wayne Madsen:I'm putting Jimmy in I think Jimmy I do think Jimmy

39:03Mattchin:Jimmy Anderson okay yeah okay Jimmy and Felix alright fit cricket is Jimmy, definitely you. Gil. I've seen a few of these things and Stoinis is always in there. Is he? Ben Foulkes is always in there. Yeah, nice. But just keep in mind this is an international magazine so I think it's not like if you're going County Circuit of course we're going to Ben Foulkes battle. He was playing test cricket then in 24, wasn't he? County Circuit.

39:32Wayne Madsen:The County Circuit Huntsman chart. Ben Foulkes was playing

39:34Mattchin:international cricket in 24. Sorry? Ben Foulkes was playing international cricket in 24, wasn't he? Yes, okay. I think folks Gil Cummins you and I don't mind saying it I'd put Jadadja in there and he flicks his hair back I'm going to go I think he's done the same I think I'll be six again like Wayne was six I don't make the answers up I think Cummins will be one do you think he'll be one? Yeah, because of his blue eyes, man.

40:13Mattchin:I'm going to have to hurry. Fee, pick one. Do you mind if I go Shubman Gill? Because he puts a lot of photos of himself with no top on Instagram. This is 24, though. This is before he was Indian captain. This is before, like, he...

40:25Wayne Madsen:Come on. We need to hurry you.

40:28Mattchin:We're going to go Pat Cummings for his blue eyes. Okay. And positive attitude to climate change. Number one was Virat Kohli. Number two was Pat Cummings. Fix. So you've got yourself two points there. Thanks so much. Number three was Kane Williamson. Oh, interesting. Rugged. Bit short for my liking. Number four was Brett Lee. Oh, come on. I mean, yeah, in the, like, noughties. Number five was Nassim Shah. And number six was Jimmy Anderson. Oh, f***. F*** off. Nassim Shah. Interesting. and so that means he's very handsome guys you drew you had five each

41:14Wayne Madsen:that's alright

41:14Mattchin:I think that's fair that's fair I'm going to have to wrap that up there and we're going to play

41:19Wayne Madsen:one more than four is the target I said one two three four five is the most you can get one two three four five

41:32Mattchin:is the most you can get thanks for your playing

41:34Wayne Madsen:so none of us are singing because we drew

41:35Mattchin:I can't wait for this to be on TV in a year's time with that BBC One, three o 'clock in the afternoon.

41:45Wayne Madsen:Look, there are worse daytime quiz shows than that currently on. Five is the most you can get is a really good game. Do you know what? Keep that away from Osmond's grubby paws. Osmond, you can have your grubby paws all over that. That's fine. As long as you pay me. yeah as long as you cut matching in an ordeal but to be fair he is owed a lot of stuff in arrears from you you've stolen a lot of stuff the least you can do is give him that so look let's wrap up today's tailenders Wayne Madsen thank you for your time and your patience and your expertise and your runs and also your Italian-ness today Italian job really liked that tailenders grazie grazie grazie grazie

42:34Mattchin:Can I just say, on the kit, I was hoping for the 90s. Remember the 90s Kappa skin-tight football? Yeah, fantastic. I was hoping more for that. Totally. This is the training shirt, the old training shirt. So, yeah, definitely pull that up.

42:52Wayne Madsen:Who was the famous Italian perm? Was it Roberto Baggio, those sorts of players?

42:58Mattchin:Yeah, Baggio. You know what I'm weird to watch that back the other day?

43:01Wayne Madsen:You want to get a big perm. all of you should go out when you do the anthems because none of you will know it you should go out and do the anthems but just but just have hair so massive it covers your face and mouth that's a great point actually

43:13Mattchin:are you learning it currently or do you know it now I'm just going to do Ness and Duma yeah I know it's a nerd I'm not doing it now but I do know it one two three four five is the most you can get

43:26Wayne Madsen:uno due tre

43:31Wayne Madsen:cinque is the most you can get

43:32Mattchin:That actually would be really good, like Eurodisco.

43:37Wayne Madsen:I did hear Matching, by the way. We heard you just whisper into the microphone, is it Nessun Dorma? Which I really liked. Anyway, okay, should we do the go-wells and then leave Wayne alone? New Tail Enders. Baby, Bambino. Bambino, human being Bambino. Maybe you should have made that clear at the time, because how am I supposed to know that?

44:17Wayne Madsen:But also, you're very welcome to listen and you've now had two shout-outs and lots of attention. Is that what you wanted? Dorset B-E-L-T Cricket Club. Good luck to all of you. 44:58Mattchin:Go well. Cheers. I've not said go well at all. Yeah, we need some go-well cheers here, guys. Well, we'll just do a big one at the end.

45:05Wayne Madsen:I feel like Matt Priory or Jamie Smith here being like,

45:07Mattchin:come on, let's have some f***ing energy around the stumps here. Birthdays. Human being birthdays, human being ones.
