He is the man that actually coaches me and my team, Mehmet Niazi, king of all YouTube. My passion is YouTube. I enjoy YouTube. And I'll sit there and I'll analyze video. If someone is number one on Google or even on YouTube, there's a reason why Google loves their website or in the case of YouTube, their video that much. So it then becomes a game. So you've got to find out what it is about that site that Google enjoys. And how does success happen? I think the first thing that a lot of people fail at, and I think this is number one key to success in my life at least, is being willing to put in the hard work, put in the reps where others won't.
0:44What I mean by that is many people will put in a short burst of energy, but after year one, they're done. So I'm putting in the hard work, I'm doing the reps, I'm staying in the game. That's it. That's what success comes down to. Where does learning fit into success for you? How does learning fit into that? it's so important but i think there's a different like there's so many different ways to learn things i've never been book smart i will learn by doing so i can read something 59 times and not understand it or feel like i i have a grasp of it but it's not until you actually start doing it that you learn i think you actually have to implement what you've been taught and try it out for yourself before i deem that as learned how does failure fit into the formula for success for you.
1:29And you have to be willing to fail. I mean, I failed so many times in so many different endeavors. I've had businesses that failed, but does that mean that it's a failure or does that mean that it's a learning opportunity? Will you sit back and cry about that or will you analyze what went right, what went wrong? Next time you're going to do it better because of that failure. How does someone stay in the fight? I guess is probably the main question. Well, I think you have to enjoy what you're doing because if you don't enjoy it, if there's not a genuine passion there, then it's very difficult to stay in the game.
1:59My passion is YouTube. I enjoy YouTube and I'll sit there and I'll analyze videos. I won't watch TV. I very rarely watch a television program. I'd much rather sit there of an evening and watch YouTube and I'll sit with my wife and talk about YouTube over the dining table. Like I'm obsessed to that degree, but it's what I enjoy. I'll do it on a Saturday afternoon when, when I'm not being paid for it. Yeah, it just so happens that that's also my career. You started teaching SEO and you literally taught thousands of people about SEO. What are the key success things for SEO in this day and age? I think that success leaves clues in any endeavor and Google is no different.
2:37If someone is number one on Google or even on YouTube, there's a reason why Google loves their website or in the case of YouTube, their video that much. So it then becomes a game. It becomes a reverse endeavor. So you've got to find out what it is about that site that Google enjoys. If I was new to SEO, what are some of the three or four things I can do to make sure that my website, my traffic starts to build? Well, the first thing that you want to do is make sure that you're targeting the right terms, right? So you want to pick the terms that you stand a chance of ranking for. There are lots of tools out there that will help you.
3:13Go in there and take a look at the longer tail keywords that might only get a couple of hundred searches, a hundred searches even. If the competition is less, then that becomes easier to compete for as a small site. You then need to go and take a look at who's currently ranking first, second, third. What are they doing? Whatever it is, your job is to replicate that. Do something just as good, if not better. Give us your overall perspective of why you love YouTube, and then we'll get into the success factors of YouTube. Well, YouTube is a great playing ground. The beauty of YouTube is you put out content and people will continue to find that for years to come.
3:49Think of your own experiences. You probably watched many videos that were published a year, two years, three years, four years ago. The reward there is it's a maximum return on your investment. Put in the effort once and people will continue to find you. What's the success factors of content for YouTube? You want a good title. A lot of people put in boring titles. Before anyone will click, the first thing they'll analyze are your title and your thumbnail. Those two are very, very important. thumbnail probably more so than the title second thing i hate it when i load up a video and there's a logo reveal or a 10 second intro 20 second intro people do not have the patience for that they just don't so within the first five seconds you need to have hooked that viewer because if you haven't they're likely to leave so your job is to make sure that that first minute is so full of value that you are not going to lose that viewer building a channel what's the success factors about building a channel and getting high subscriber numbers?
4:46Well, subscriber numbers, to be honest with you, is a vanity metric. Subscribers don't pay the bills. The key to getting subscribers is great content. Consistently good content is another good tip because one video and someone might not subscribe, but two or three of your videos, which are good, then there's a higher likelihood. But also you've got to ask people to subscribe, right? If I want you to do something, I'd normally have to ask you to do something. So put in a, put in a request. Hey guys, if you're enjoying my content, it's taken me a lot of time to research this. I hope, I hope you find it helpful.
5:17Hit that like button, hit the subscribe button, show me that you're enjoying. That's it. And that will help you get more subscribers. Yeah, really tough. Well, what about building a channel? Is there an advantage to building a channel or, or is it not necessary? Like, is it a vanity thing or what's your thoughts? Building a channel? I see as building lots of highly relevant, highly related content that will allow viewers to express an interest by watching one episode and then the next and then the next. It has to be on a common theme. That's how you build successful channels. You know, when you sit down and you think about what are the key factors to be good at advertising on YouTube?
5:50It goes back to my first point, which is for the hook, right? So for ads, it's even more important than a typical video. So on an ad, people have five seconds typically before they can skip the ad. So you've got five seconds, which isn't a lot of time. You've got five seconds to spark intrigue and curiosity. And the best way to do that is immediately without any form of hesitation or fluff, tell them why they should care. So good hook. That's the key thing there. And then one other thing that a lot of people don't realize is. What's the key success factors to making sure I'm making money from YouTube, not just having my videos up on YouTube?
6:29Well, there's a couple of different ways that you can earn money from your YouTube videos. The first we touched on earlier was YouTube ad revenue. So Google AdSense, it's called. The key there is you want to make videos over eight minutes and insert multiple ads. That won't pay your bills unless you're getting hundreds of thousands, if not millions of views. The next way that you can earn is you want to make sure that you've got affiliate links in your descriptions. And then another one is sponsorships. What are your thoughts on how people or how you have gone from good to amazing or good to great?
7:02Putting in a lot of time, a lot of dedication, and I still think it's a work in progress for me. I'm constantly learning. There's a lot that I can get better at, but it's a case of dedicating yourself and learning every opportunity you can. When did you first decide to go massive rather than just go small in life, to go big, to go and do, to dream big, I guess is probably the simple way to put it. Again, I think that's something that I'm working on currently. I still don't think I'm anywhere near as big as I should be. But I think that it comes from an innate, inbuilt desire for more. That's a good thing.
7:36In certain areas, it can also be a very bad thing. But I am the kind of person who's very rarely satisfied or happy. I'm my own biggest critic, and I will constantly analyze and push for better. And that's a big success podcast for today. Hopefully you took a lot of notes, learned a whole bunch, and if you need to go re-listen to it, we dropped a lot of information right there today.
