0:11I adopted this beautiful little human being when he was a few days old. He's my son. His name is Niall. And when I held him in my arms for the first time, I felt so complete. I always say that Niall is the fruit of all the pain that I've been through. I love him not because he's my son. I love him because he's such a kind and considerate human being and he's an excellent teacher. I remember when he was four years old, he's obsessed with soccer. He wants to become a soccer player when he grows up till date. So we got him his very first football when he was four years old. Poor child got so excited that he forgot that his mother is paralyzed.
0:56He held the ball and he kept that in my feet and he said, mom, kick the ball.
1:05and I looked at him and I had tears in my eyes and I said Niall remember mom's legs don't work I can't kick the ball I felt so helpless and hopeless as a mother that this was a little thing that my son wanted me to do and I couldn't do it bless his kind heart he came to me and he I said, Mom, don't be sad. It's okay. Sorry I forgot. But listen, your hands are working. We can play catch ball. And with that football, we play catch ball. And you know what he taught me?
1:48In that moment, my little son, Niall, taught me a very powerful life lesson. If you're thinking that your glass is half empty, rethink. Think all about what you have, and you will realize that your glass is half full. Today, my son is a teenager. He's 13 years old.
2:16We recently celebrated his 13th birthday in April, and now he says, Mom, I'm so strong, I can lift you up. No big deal. So when I overcame the fear of not becoming a mother, I became Niall's mother. Another biggest fear that we all human beings have, and it's very common and it's okay to be scared of, that is the fear of abandonment. What will happen if people that we depend on so much or lean on so much leave? What will happen? Guess what? Nothing happens. We are better off. Been there, done that.
3:05Sometimes it takes letting go to realize that we are holding on to nothing. There are times when we cling on to the wrong people. People who do not belong to our journey. people who do not add on to what we are supposed to be in life. Sometimes we cling on to the people who do not even see our value in their lives. I had to liberate myself by setting all those people free who did not belong to my journey. And let me tell you something. When wrong people leave, right things start to happen.
3:49When wrong people leave, they create space for the right people to come in. And it takes time. And it's okay to be on our own. I think when I overcame this fear of abandonment, I became my own best friend. It made me realize that... Thank you.
4:14It just made me realize something so profound and so real that people, relationships, material world, these things cannot make us happy. They can only make us happier. So in order to be happy, you need to work on yourself. You need to be your own best friend, and you should create your own happiness. Everything else will fall into place. And do not rush. Let the right person come to you. Sooner or later, they will arrive. Be patient. So when I...
4:54So when I overcame these fears, self-acceptance became so much easier. I was able to accept myself the way I was. and most importantly, I was able to respect myself for who I was. And that's where I always say that when you accept yourself the way you are, the world recognizes you. It all starts from within. Today, I'm an artist and I've been exhibiting my work globally. Remember, the same artist who did not have a plan B and I stick to the plan A.
5:37I've been exhibiting my artwork globally, and since I've recently moved to the U.S., I'm so happy to share this. I recently had an exhibition here in U.S. in Rhode Island, and it just gives me so much joy.
5:57I'm Pakistan's first goodwill ambassador to UN women.
6:09I was featured in the list of BBC Top 100 Women. I was in the list of Forbes 30 Under 30.
6:23I'm Pakistan's first wheelchair-bound model. Someone who's...
6:35trying to change the narrative in the mainstream media, trying to let the world know that we are all perfectly imperfect and that's perfectly all right. I'm Pakistan's first wheelchair-bound TV host and I have been hosting TV shows for the last 10 years on national TV.
6:58Again, the idea of saying the first wheelchair-bound is because it's not just about me. It's about so many young boys and girls who happen to be in the wheelchair who will come after me. At least they will have a path to follow, which I didn't have.
