0:11I really believe that money, when you treat it like a good friend, and you start to speak to it kindly, and you start to give to it kindly, and you start to be generous and caring and thoughtful about money, it will return the favor. And it will be the gift that keeps on giving to you as well. For sure. But we've got to learn to take care of it, even when we have very little. or not any at all. We've got to learn to take care of it and treat it like the most precious relationship in our life, like a human being relationship. If you want to thrive in an intimate relationship with a friend or a partner, we've got to learn to take care of this person.
0:51We've got to learn to say nice things to them, to look them in the eyes and be aware and see where are they heading? Are they going into danger? Are they going into a safe space? Am I aware? Am I guiding it in the right place? And I think that's an important concept you're talking about, So I love that idea around money. Yeah. Your relationship with money and the energy that you have around it is just a reflection of what's going on internally inside of you, right? It's just another relationship like you're saying. Right. I can imagine if you don't feel loving about yourself and if you don't have good relationships in your life, you don't feel like you matter.
1:20It doesn't matter if you had$10 billion. You might still not feel like you're enough. So we've really got to learn how to take care of the inner environment and make sure that we're taking care of ourselves so that when we don't have money, we can still love and appreciate us. And when we do have money, we can love and appreciate us. Yeah. Money is not going to make you feel different about yourself. Might make you feel a little more powerful or like you can buy stuff, but it doesn't make you love yourself. No, not at all. With zero dollars in your bank account, with$10 billion in your bank account, it doesn't matter how much is there because your self-love is just a journey that you need to go on.
1:56If you can love yourself at zero dollars, you'll love yourself at$100 million. Right. But making the money or achieving stuff or anything external will never change what you feel about yourself internally. Right. And I think a lot of people need to realize that is that achievement, I thought for the longest time, like if I achieve things, I'll finally feel better about myself. I achieve things and I don't feel any better. I'm in the exact same situation. When I make money, I'll feel better about myself. And you realize it was never about any of those things. It was always about my relationship with the person that's in the mirror.
2:26You talk about this concept of either living life on your front foot or your back foot. What does that mean and how should we be thinking about this in our life? I have a friend who's a Navy SEAL. If you've ever been around a Navy SEAL, I know you have. They are like productive. They get stuff done, right? They're just really good at getting things done. And so he talks about how the Navy SEALs, they live their life on the front foot, which means that they're always kind of leaning forward. They're always proactive versus reactive. I think a lot of times when we wake up in the morning, we're extremely reactive.
2:57We set the alarm. We hit snooze a few times. We wake up. I used to do this when I worked for somebody else. I hit my snooze a few times, and then I'd have 15 minutes to leave the house. I'd take a shower, put clothes on, make a coffee, run, and I was just out. And I was like reactive, right? I wasn't living for myself in any sort of way. And so a lot of things that I talk about inside the book is like the power of having momentum. Like when you have positive momentum on your side, it makes it really easy to continue that momentum. with my sales reps at WorkMeeting. I always used to say this way back in the day when I was for Cutco, I say it now, which is the easiest time to make a sale is when you just made a sale.
3:30The reason why is because you have a little bit of that positive momentum on your side. And so with living your life on like the front foot is planning your day so that you can get your day off in a way that is a little bit of momentum on your side. Because when you look at the human experience, man, like it's great, but it is really hard sometimes. Like it's hard. by not making a plan and not putting stuff in place to make it easier, it makes it way harder on us. And so one of the things that I always thought was the dumbest thing was making your bed in the morning. I didn't make my bed for like 20-something years, 27, 29 years, 30 years, whatever it is, right?
4:05And then I remember hearing that story of the guy talking about making your bed, and I was like, I don't really want to do it, but I'll give it a shot. So like when I talk about it, it's getting small wins in the morning that make you feel good. If you had set your alarm for 6 a.m. and you had to snooze, you're subconsciously, maybe even consciously, not going to feel great about yourself. That's not the best way to start your day. You, before you went to bed, made a conscious decision you want to be up at 6 a.m., but you woke up at 6.30, and now you've got to play catch-up, and you don't get your morning routine, you don't get your workout in.
4:34And so it's like, how can we have small wins to get momentum? So it's like, the first one, wake up when your alarm goes off. The second one, turn and make your bed. It just makes you feel better. And I still, to this day, am like, I don't want to make the bed, but I know it makes me feel better. I know when I walk into my room, when I'm going to go get something out of my room, I feel better when it looks nicer. It's one win. I woke up when I was supposed to wake up. Win number two, I made my bed when I didn't want to make my bed. Win number three, in some sort of way, can be meditation for you.
5:02It could be how do you set your morning up. Maybe you're the type of person where you want to get your coffee, you want to go for a run first thing in the morning. Okay, well then how can I make it easier to get my life started on the front foot? Okay, I'm going to get a coffee machine that has a timer so by the time I get into the kitchen, it's already made. All I have to do pour it into a cup drink it and i'm good to go And I want to go for a run. So what i'm gonna do is right next to where I brush my teeth I'm gonna have my running shoes. I'm gonna have my socks. I'm gonna have my underwear I'm gonna have my shorts.
5:29I'm gonna have my shirt ready to go I'm gonna have my apple watch ready to go. It's gonna be charged I don't even have to think it's all there And so it allows me by planning a little bit taking five minutes before I go to bed Allows me to wake up and start the momentum of my day

Rob Dial advises living life on the front foot by proactively planning each morning to build momentum, avoiding starting reactive and behind. He suggests small wins like waking on time, making your bed, preparing gear for a workout generate positivity to power bigger goals. Dial notes that like money, self-love is an inside job - no achievement or bank account alone changes core feelings about yourself. To him, easing daily progress maximizes freedom to grow, create, serve others versus scrambling to catch up.
