0:12Paco Amoroso:Hello and welcome to the Monaco Weekly. I am Fernando Augusto Pacheco and today I had the pleasure to meet in London the Argentinian music duo Catrial and Paco Amoroso to discuss their new album Free Spirits and their collaboration with Sting.

0:48CA7RIEL:I think after the Tiny Desk we realized that people want our more different and musical approach. So we have like the trust of everybody to, I don't know, add the strings in some of the songs to explore more all the palette of styles that we like and we can do. And of course the pop elements and the structures, it's always there. But I think that it's our more eclectic album and also the lyrics we are trying to explain a lot of all the suffer and all of the issues that we deal with this whole year of success that we have and all the jokes and all the tour that we did in 2025.

1:40Paco Amoroso:In a way it's a therapeutical journey right every song in a way deals with kind of some sort of issue right? Yes totally. Of course I must ask you guys about the collaboration with Sting, which is so surprising as well and fantastic. So how did it work?

1:55CA7RIEL:Who approached who? We met Sting one year ago in Buenos Aires when he came to play. So of course, having Sting there, we asked him a lot about, hey, how do you deal with all this tour life? You've been doing this for years and years and years. How do you deal with your wife, with your kids, with not being at home and all of this, he's like a mentor to us because he really gives us a lot of advice. We were made in the album and we made this song. We say, okay, this will be a really good one for Sting. So we ask him if he want to collaborate with us. And he said yes. And the next day we went to the studio and he recorded with his shoes out.

2:41CA7RIEL:Like, all do you expect about him? So we are very happy with him and all the things that we do for us in our life and in this album.

3:03Paco Amoroso:You could feel it's a perfect match, even with his face, you know, in the video. It was the right match.

3:11Sting:Yeah, he's a master. piece of matter to us. We are fans, no? We have his music in our DNA, you know? Much perfect.

3:21Paco Amoroso:What I like about the music that you two do, it's definitely out of the box because, you know, there's pop, there's trap, there's electro, there's traditional rhythms. You know, is that the case? I mean, tell us, what was the strongest influence for this album? Because listening to the tracks, there's some songs for the dance floor, but others, they're a bit more chilled.

3:41CA7RIEL:somewhere even bossa vibes even i think if you've been listening katu and paco before i think we are always trying to make different genres of music and trying new things and maybe this time we have more people with their eyes on on us so of course it will be like more pressure but i think we did the right thing, like doing it this way, trying to make all the music that we like and when we are in the studio we say, okay, today we should go in this direction and why we don't try to put an orchestra on it? So I think all the craziness and all the crazy ideas that we have, like we could do it in free spirit.

4:38CA7RIEL:I wanna give you a baby Come on, baby! I wanna be your baby

4:48Paco Amoroso:Fantastic. I was going to ask you guys as well about Argentinian music because I think it's been very exciting looking at Argentina in the last years. A lot of new artists, of course, you guys, you know, always an inspiration. How do you feel looking at Argentina, Buenos Aires? do you feel it's an exciting moment for argentinian music yes yes we had a lot of colleagues i really

5:13Sting:like the underground music the argentinian underground music because the underground argentina is so interesting because they don't have the pressure to say things that make happy the people i think no not like us and they are so true the music of the past we like a lot of rock and all the music that is amazing.

5:37CA7RIEL:Banderlake Underground now. Yes, I think the young artists like in Argentina and everywhere, you can found amazing music on the underground. And we want to take advantage of this opportunity and this note to say to the people that support the underground. You're a local artist.

5:56Paco Amoroso:Yes. I support that idea full-heartedly. And this album, you know, it's all about healing after a very stressful year for you guys because so much was happening. What do you both do, actually, when you need to relax? Because, you know, of course, there's a lot of imagery now from the album. Relaxation, wellness. But I want to know your secrets.

6:16Sting:I think we eat a lot better, I think. But in my case, I meditate. I do a lot of stretch, too. and I love animals, you know? I love to be by animals.

6:33CA7RIEL:Yes, it's like we realized that last year we did a lot of shows and there was a lot of travel. And if you want to perform well and do all of this crazy musical career when you don't stop to have interviews, to travel, to meet people, you need to be, like, very healthy. and we need to change some behaviors of the past. So nowadays it's all about good time of sleep, good time of rest, a lot of good food. It's like we try to, all the things we do in real life, we are taking it and we are putting it in our music. So that's why we are doing all of this free spirit journey because that's what we've been doing the last year to play because if you are traveling, you have one day on show in this city and the other day you travel to another country.

7:31CA7RIEL:If you don't take care of you, you can do it well.

7:34Paco Amoroso:And my final question to both of you, you know, I liked so many songs in the album. I was writing down because I don't have the names yet, but I loved the second one. It touched my heart. I don't know why. Maybe, you know, and I loved the sixth song as well. Yes, Memoir. Yeah. I'm dying. It's very chic. It's very nice. There's nice, nice feet. I know you can't choose your favorite, but is there a song that is special to both of you?

7:57CA7RIEL:Well, it's crazy because when you made an album, maybe one day in the studio for, I don't know, how was that session, maybe you loved that one song. And when you listen and listen and new songs appear, that idea, which is my favorite, changes all the time. But for us, it's very amazing to hear what people like because everyone loves a different song and we love that you picked this too.

8:25Sting:I really like the second too. I want to tell you the truth. I hear the song and it makes me cry. Cry like a lot of times. I don't like to cry a lot, but I have this sense because it's about babies and getting old and it's with Shad Black that is my, I'm a huge fan of Shad Black, you know? And it made me cry.

9:06Thank you very much.

9:08Paco Amoroso:Catriel and Paco Moroso there and their album, Free Spirits, is out now. I'm Fernando Augusto Pacheco and this show was edited by Jack Dewars. Thank you for listening.

9:21Thank you.
