Automatic transcript. May contain errors.0:00Alan Shearer:Coming up on today's show, this week's quiz is... Are you ready for this, chaps? Go on. Non-English players with the most Premier League goals. Any clues? I can't give you clues. He's still... One of them's still playing in a foreign league. He's just whining your pen, Micah. I'll give you one clue, that's bullshit. Can we have a look at Alan's eye line, mate? He ever so slightly veers a little bit over his computer here. Is that what I'm thinking of? What do you think, Al? I think that's a decent shout. I think you should go with him. Playing games here with you, Micah. Interesting shout, Micah.
0:39Alan Shearer:That's an odd shout. No, come on. He's scored a lot of goals. He's scored a lot of penalties. And he's had an unbelievable amount of assists. What's he got? I don't know. Because he's not even in the top 20.
1:03Alan Shearer:Hello and welcome to The Rest is Football with Alan Shearer, Micah Richards and me, Gary Lineker. With six weeks to go until the end of the season, we thought we'd mix things up with a short run of Premier League quizzes. Each episode will feature plenty of archive along the way for you to enjoy. I'll be quiz master for today, but we'll be rotating that role over the coming weeks. And to kick things off, this week's quiz is... Are you ready for this, chaps? Go on. Non-English players with the most Premier League goals. Non-English players with the most Premier League goals. Now, there's obviously a few that you'll get fairly immediately and quickly, but then it might get a little bit tricky.
1:50Alan Shearer:I'm going to give you just a few seconds to think about some of those names. You pushed hard today. Now give your body what it needs tonight. 2:32Real offer, down to the penny. They're picking it up tomorrow. Nothing went wrong. So, what's the problem? That is the problem. Nothing in my life goes to smoothie. I'm waiting for the catch. Maybe there's no catch. That's exactly what a catch would want me to think. Wow, you need to relax. I need to knock on wood. Do we have wood? Is this table wood? I think it's laminate. Okay, yeah, that's good. That's close enough. Car selling without a catch. Sell your car today on Carvana.
2:55Alan Shearer:Pickup fees may apply. This episode is powered by Fuse Energy. Before we kick off a quick pre-match warm-up from Fuse, a question on the teams and players who make things count. The question is, which Premier League team scored the most goals from set pieces in 24-25 season? I already know that one. Crystal Palace. Final answer. Game over. Done. I know it. I know it. It's in there. Well, as I'm actually leading this quiz, I'm going to go Crystal Palace too, so that makes me the winner. Crystal Palace is the correct answer, followed by Aston Villa and then Arsenal. The best teams find an edge wherever they can.

Right, here we go, lads. Who wants to go first? Go on, you go first if you want, Al. Alan's going to go first. So I suspect the four or five will be quite easy. And then... So a list of... A list of... I've got in front of me, I've got the top 20 goal scorers. But I want, as usual with this, I want the top 10.
4:24So it's a top Premier League goals, non-English Premier League goalscorer. Is that right? Yes. Yes.
4:30Alan Shearer:Phone's going away. Phone is going away. Good. Excellent. Hands free. I don't want to know. I'll go first then, am I? Go on, Al. Salah. Mo Salah, obviously. He's the leading non-English goalscorer. Who's the leading English goalscorer? How many did you know? Is he... I don't know, is he around about 200 or just under? 193 goals. I mean, what a player he's been. Obviously, he's coming to the end, isn't he? Well, presumably Premier League football. I'd be surprised if he moved to another Premier League club at the end of the season. He's nice as well. The last couple of games, he scored a couple as well.
5:11Alan Shearer:But he's been one of the greats, hasn't he? Absolutely, yeah. One of the greats. What he's done for Liverpool, the number, the importance of his goals and how regular he's been. and he's been phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal, yeah. And you used to be his taxi driver, Mike. Yes, I did, indeed. You couldn't possibly envisage the career that he would have and the magical moments he's had at Liverpool. God, he scored some great goals as well, hasn't he? Not only a lot of them. You know what? I know it sounds ridiculous. I still think he could score a lot of goals in the Premier League because if you look at the chances that he's had and he didn't have the fallout with slot, I still think he could still, because he's always in the right position.
5:53I think when you look at his position now, obviously he plays right at the three up front. And he gets himself into good positions, but maybe doesn't have the power in his legs to get away from someone. But if you actually look at his chances, the old Salah just puts that in the net. So I still think if he adapted his position, he still could get 25 in the Premier League without doubt. Okay, right.
6:18Alan Shearer:Over to you, Micah Richards. Thierry Henry's got to be in there, hasn't he? Obviously, yes. Thierry's in there. How many goals do you think? I should know this. Is it 1-8-4? No. No, what is it? It's 1-7-5. Oh, I should know. He had the thing with Ian Wright on the pitch, didn't he? That's right, yeah. He broke his record, didn't he? Yes, he broke his record, yes. Amazing achievement for Wrighty, that really, isn't it? I mean, you work with him all the time, don't you? and va-va-boom. He's definitely got that, hasn't he? He's cool, isn't he? Back in the days. I think as a whole package, it doesn't get much better than him, by the way.
6:57Well, it doesn't get better than him. He's number one in the Premier League all round, isn't he? As a whole package, yeah. Absolutely, I'd agree with that.
7:02Alan Shearer:Yeah, so would I. As a whole package. What's he got, 175? Yeah. He's probably in fewer seasons, Al. Was it just 85 behind, was he? Fewer seasons, Al. Selected here and again. Yeah, I didn't hear what you said. Sorry, Lachia. As a whole package, Thierry's the best, definitely. I mean, I suppose the archetypal Henry goal is when he slides in off the left and it cuts in, right foot, bends it in at the far post. Brilliant. It was absolutely magnificent football. Unbelievable player. Right, okay. That's 1-1. I thought that might be the case. I think over to you, Alan. Aguero! Oh! Anguero is obviously in there.
7:49Alan Shearer:Has to be. How many do you think? One, six, eight. One, six, eight is not the right answer. He's actually second. He's ahead of Thierry Henry. Oh, right. Oh. So, Micah, how many do you think he got? I mean, he's more of a gold poacher than probably any, perhaps, Thierry. But he did also have that, you know, gold from outside the box in his locker as well, didn't he? Yeah. In his armoury. I scored two on his debut. I set up the first one. No problem at all. You basically made him, Michael. You made him the player that he is. Look at this. I've played behind Salah. Look what he's gone on to do. I've played behind Aguero.
8:31Look what he's gone on to do. It's incredible, Mike. Unbelievable. What a career.
8:36Alan Shearer:I wish you'd have been around in the early 80s, Michael. You could have transformed my career. I played behind Beckham. international look what he's got to do I wish you had played at Newcastle instead of Warren Barton
8:52I'm joking Warren
8:54Alan Shearer:I'm joking
8:58Alan Shearer:I was with Warren at the weekend he was in Tampa he's a good player Warren Barton got an England cap as well yeah he did consistent so yeah actually Mikey you said a number for Thierry Henry I think you got confused you'd heard that number somewhere and it was the number of goals that Sergio Aguero scored 184. Okay. 2-1. Micah's turn.
9:24Let me think. It's got to be someone like Robin Van Persie. Arsenal, United.
9:32Alan Shearer:Yeah. Are you saying that? Yeah, I'll go with Van Persie. Yeah, that's the correct answer. You've now got the top four between you. Have we? Yeah, Mo Salah first, Sergio Aguero second, Thierry Henry and Robin Van Persie. Remember that Van Persie, that volley from, was it a Rooney long ball? Yes, it was. Over his shoulder, that first time volley. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. What a goal that was, yeah. And obviously he did it at both Arsenal and Manchester United as well. When somehow Fergie prized him away, didn't he? From Arsenal, which was pretty baffling at the time, I thought. He just wanted to win the league though.
10:08He went to United and won the league, didn't he?
10:09Alan Shearer:Yeah, exactly. So. Exactly. I think he's one of the most underrated players in Premier League history. Touch, technique and finishing. Underrated? Underrated. Not by us, I don't think. Every time you talk about a top striker in the Premier League, his name rarely gets mentioned. I know he could do both. He could do number nine and he could do a number 10 as well because his touch was so good. But he was an extraordinary player. His vision, his football IQ was just off the scale. Right. Once we've got the next one, we'll have a little break. But, Alan, it's back to you. We're 100 % so far. We've got numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4.
10:53I think because of the clubs he played at, I'm going to say Nicholas Anelka. Good shout. Nicholas Anelka. He played for all of them. What, he played, didn't he? Yeah, Bolton, Chelsea, City, Liverpool.
11:10Alan Shearer:Arsenal Arsenal I think there's six got to be in there hasn't he one more who's going to get the next one I'll give you half a point well I won't say it again who've we got I've got it I know it it's West Brom yeah West Brom well done well done okay yeah he was I mean he was the when he was really really young I mean he looked like he was going to be one of the absolute greats I'm not quite sure he completely realised his potential but you know Otherwise, he probably ended up playing at Bolton and West Brom, with all due respect. But he did go to Real Madrid as well. Unbelievable, the clubs, isn't it, that he's played for?
11:50But he was rapid, wasn't he, as well? He was clever with the running with the ball as well, I guess. What number is he then? What number is he on the list? He's eighth. Eighth, okay.
12:01Alan Shearer:Eighth, yeah. How many goals?
12:06Alan Shearer:125 goals he scored. Right. Okay. Well, that gives you the lead, Alan. 3-2 over Micah. But it gets trickier now, and we'll take a little breather so you can have a little bit of thinking time.
12:21Alan Shearer:This episode is brought to you by HubSpot. You know why elite playmakers run the whole match? It isn't just the through balls. It's because they see everything. Who's on a yellow? Who's gassed, what the opposition's doing. Most businesses don't have that. Sales runs one system, marketing runs another. Nobody told service the customer ran yesterday. 13:54Alan Shearer:Welcome back to the Rest is Football quiz special, Premier League quiz. And the question is, which non-English Premier League goal scorers are in the all-time top 10. We've got five. We've got Mo Salah, Sergio Aguero, Thierry Henry, Robin Van Persie, Nicholas and Nelke. It's now your turn, Micah. You can level things up and make it 3-3 if you get the right answer. He's scratching his beard for those that are looking. Well, it's ultra audio only. Glasses on the top of his forehead. gazing into the distance. It's only there so we can't see him looking in the computer or something like that wherever he's looking at.
14:36Look wherever you want, mate. Can you see? Can you see that reflection?
14:42Bruno Fernandes
14:43Alan Shearer:or Fernach. Bruno Fernandes? Bruno Fernandes. That's a really interesting interesting shout, Micah. That's an odd shout. No, come on. He's scored a lot of goals. He's scored a lot of penalties and he's had an unbelievable amount of assists but unfortunately assists don't count. Therefore, Micah, I mean, I don't know where you pluck that one out from, but no. What's he got? I don't know, because he's not even in the top 20. That was a really strange show. It was left field. I waited until he's got left field. It was definitely left field. No, he's nowhere to be seen. How many goals has he got? He's got 70.
15:25Alan Shearer:Which is 22 goals behind 20th place. So that was... I wouldn't say that was a near miss, Michael. Well, Alan, this is your chance for victory. Victory's there before you. Not yet, not yet. No, not yet. Can we have a look at Alan's eyeline, mate? He ever so slightly veers a little bit over his computer.
15:53Let me see. Can he make it 4-2? Would Sonny be in there? Oh great shout Young Min Son He's definitely got 100 because I've seen him on 100 club Well if he's got over 100 he has to be in there then surely
16:05Alan Shearer:Young Min Son is joint fifth Yes with 127 goals Wow 4-2 to Alan 4-2 Big mix 4-2 I need this don't I If you don't get this you're done Well not only if you get yours right It's not a free isn't it 4-2 you just said Bruno Fernandes Yeah that was a mistake Son he's now strutting his stuff and doing pretty well in Los Angeles but he's one of those players that I think was universally liked even fans probably not Arsenal maybe with that exception but everywhere else played with a smile on his face had that amazing partnership with Harry Kane what a player for so long for Tottenham I could do with him now did he get goal of the season once or was he in goal of the season when he was at Burnley when he went right from the back went inside from his own 18-yard box or near there and then went and finished it off, ran all that way.
17:01Alan Shearer:Yeah, what a goal that was. Was it Burnley? I think it was against Burnley, was it? It was against Burnley. Right, yeah. Yeah, I remember, I think Tony Pesto, our famous Burnley fan. What a partnership as well with Harry Kane he had. Brilliant. An understanding, great. Just a bit. They're both left spurs now and doing great things. But Son was, I mean, nice guy as well, wasn't he, Micah? and the interview he's always lovely guy he could do a bit he was also quite creative wasn't he as well he had so many assists he played on that left side was when he was at his best wasn't it yeah he was class whether he was dribbling or whatever he used to come on his right foot and then play that killer ball as well he was super intelligent and great to watch because he was dynamic you know I was going to say about Harry Kane he obviously loved playing alongside him but he hasn't got two bad players either side of him now at Bayern Munich as well has he but he was brilliant with the understanding that the two of them had.

17:59Alan Shearer:Yeah, Alisson Mane. Right, over to you, Mike. You really do need to get this right. I've got one anyway. Bang under the cosh. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank is a good shout indeed. That is the right answer. And he had exactly the same amount of goals as Heung-Min Son with 127. I've worked with Jimmy a few times he's a lovely guy what a shot he had the size of his thighs Jesus he was so well built the power volleys, the technique was superb unbelievable and his hips don't lie do they? He was on Strictly his hips don't lie he was moving well for a big man was he good on Strictly?
18:49Alan Shearer:he improved let's see I improved yeah he got back into a player couldn't he yeah he had that yeah a bit like Kenny Dalglish in that that sense strength you know that yeah that ability to hold a defender off yeah and then turn quicker then bang it smash it yes yeah cool he could strike it strike it sweet really good player really good guy right the score now is Alan 4 Micah 3 but it's over to you Alan I'm going to wait until we get all this top 10 before to see who wins I think that's how we're going to do this so that if you get two more Alan basically I'm still shocked Mike is saying Bruno Fernandes I know that was left field that one I don't know I was just I was struggling I panicked you panicked don't panic Mike or whatever you do it's only a quiz right over to you Alan this to make a commanding lead I'm thinking I'm thinking oh he's lucky I'm thinking again because of the number of clubs he played for I'm just thinking West Brom in the Premier League he played for West Brom as well I think I'm going to say Lukaku oh good shout I like that Alan Romelu Lukaku tell me he's in there he's 10th oh he's 10th what's going on here Come get Schubert's inquiry.
20:19Come on. We need to see the full, he's full set up there. H, John.
20:24Alan Shearer:Alan's not capable of finding it that quick. He's not that, he's, no. No way, not on the tech front, surely. Yeah, Everton, Man United as well. Didn't he get over, he got over 20 on a season at West Brom as well, didn't he? Am I right in saying that? Did he? Yeah, he got, I remember 18, I think. Did he? Yeah. He scored four in one game. Can you remember what game that was? Four for West Brom. It was the last game of the season against. No. The score was 5-5, if I remember rightly. Oh, right. Manchester United, remember, on the last, the champions that already won the league, Man United. I think I'm right in saying that's the case.
21:03Alan Shearer:So that's me one. No, no, no, no. You've got to get six to win, obviously. Because otherwise, Mike can get back to five. But you are in a very good place, Alan, because there's only, how many have we got left? We've got one, two, three, four joint fifths. We've got eight and ten. So, Micah, you've got to get this right, or Allen has one, because you won't be able to get to five. Any clues? I can't give you clues. He's still, one of them's still playing in a foreign league. He's just winding you up here, Micah. I'll give you one clue, that's bullshit. That's the only clue I'm going to give you.
21:42Alan Shearer:Stop it, man! Under the circumstances. I will give you one clue, though. They scored more than 100 goals. What part of the world are we looking? Both of them. Take me to what part of the world are we looking? English Premier League.
22:01Alan Shearer:What have you got for me? That beard scratching again. I've got two potential ones. Are we counting Ireland in this? Because obviously... Well, we're not counting goals scored in Ireland. his goals in the Premier League yeah but it's foreign goalscorers isn't it so I'm saying oh yeah I see what you mean yeah of course exactly I know who you're going to say you know who I'm going to say don't you yeah but I've also got another one oh is it what I'm thinking of what do you think Al I think that's a decent shout out to me I think you should go with him he's playing games here isn't he Michael he's playing games I mean the thing is if you don't go for that one and then Alan I'm going to go over it or he might or he might have his own mind I'll go Robbie Keane then Robbie Keane Robbie Keane yes well he is Irish and that does qualify it's a good show but he's only in seventh place oh Michael he's still in it Robbie Keane what a shout seven plays one goal behind Heung-Min Son and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank and one goal ahead of Nicholas Anelko 126 goals Robbie Keane is the correct answer.
23:17Alan Shearer:Oh, can we keep an eye on the eye movement, please, guys? Do you think he's slightly underrated, is he? Yeah, proper. Again, not by fellow strikers, but I'm talking perhaps in the greater picture. Yeah, because he was a real goal scorer, wasn't he? He's a poacher kind of scorer, really. No, but it was his movement, guys. His movement was extraordinary. Obviously, technically, he was good, and then he could finish, but I think his best asset was his movement. You think you've got him and then he's just gone and it was so sharp. Well, he understood it. He understood how to score goals, you know, that attacking space.
23:54Alan Shearer:Yes. Take gambling on an area. And he was a very cool finisher, I think, as well. Calm under pressure. You must have played against him a bit, how did you? Yeah, I mean, where was he started? Off at Coventry, then what? Into Milan, Spurs, Leeds. Villa. It was just his move to Liverpool that didn't work out, and then he got judged by that. Do you remember 20 million quid at the time? Yeah, but what a great career. He's managing in Hungary or somewhere now, isn't he? I think he's tried everywhere, and I really admire him for doing that. Is it Ferenc Varas he's at? Oh, yeah, Ferenc Varas, yes. I think it is.
24:32Alan Shearer:Yes. And he's tried, you know, he obviously really wants to do that, and obviously enjoys it, and hopefully he'll get a really good chance at some point. Right, that leaves one name. If you get this right, Alan, you win. If you don't and Micah gets it right, then we have a tie. I'm struggling now. I've got a choice of three or four. I wouldn't shout them out loud if I were you. I know. Tactically. He can't be far behind after the number of years he played. Man United. Oh, I believe. It's either him or I've got another one in my head. I'm going to go with...
25:15Alan Shearer:Mane. Sadio Mane? Yeah. Liverpool? Yeah. Well, Alan, I have to tell you that with 111 goals, he's in 11th place. Oh! No! Oh, yeah. Oh, jeez. oh deary me Micah you can take it to a playoff and a playoff will mean we'll take Sadio Mane out but the playoff will mean whoever gets the one that's closest to the top 10 in the 10 to 20 is the winner but but you've got to get this name first Micah otherwise Alan gets another go Alan said United and I think he was thinking about the guy that I was thinking I think he United and Villal that's what you was thinking wouldn't you oh look at the face on Al No, no, I wasn't.
26:10I wasn't thinking him. You said you wasn't thinking him. Because I said of his long career at Man United. He's a poker face. Look at the poker face on that. I was thinking of someone who's been there all his life. I was thinking of Yorkie.
26:23Alan Shearer:It's a great shout. See if Gaz does anything with his face there. I'll give nothing away, Mike. I have got a poker face. Are you seeing him then, are you? When you said him, that was my other one potentially. But I'm going to go with Dwight York. Dwight York. Fuck, I forgot Dwight York. Come on. My fellow Caribbean man, save me. Okay. Dwight York. 123 goals, ninth place. Ninth! Oh, my God. He's come back. He's come back from the dead as Richard. He's come back. Come back. Right. This is what we're going to do right here. Yeah. The winner, we've already had Sadio Mane, so he can't count. but I've got nine of the names here and I want you both to pick a name and the highest goal scorer out of those two names wins so this is it who wants well Alan you've been going first all along so you get first first dibs well I said my the guy at Man United just because of I'm going to say Giggsie you're going to say Ryan Giggs I'm going to try I'm giving nothing away here and Micah I'm snooking here, guys, now.
27:38That was my last option. Any clues to spice it up for the last round?
27:44Alan Shearer:That's desperation, Micah, right there. It's spicy enough as it is. This is do or die. Giggsie must have got 100 goals or something, I would have gone with Giggsie as well. Would you? Yeah. Well, you can't. He must have got somewhere around that, like late 90s, 100, after... What has he been there? Was he 18 years or something? I'm waiting for Micah's answer before I... give anything away. The only one I can think of is someone like Harland. Harland has done 100, haven't he? Is that your answer? I can't think of anyone else. So that is your answer. I'm asking if that's your answer. Yeah. Or Didier Drogba.
28:18Oh, what a good shout that is. Didier. Harland's Harland. Let me do the maths on this. How long has Harland been at City now? If you don't hurry up, it could turn into a two-day quiz. Yeah, go on. I'll go Didier or Harland.
28:30Alan Shearer:Any of those names? You can't have both. I need your final answer, please. Harland. Harland. Haaland, right, okay. So, Alan, you went with Ryan Giggs. Ryan Giggs has scored 108 goals and is in 12th place. I've won it. So therefore, Micah, therefore, you went with Erling Haaland, who is also in 12th place with 108 goals. That's it!
29:01Alan Shearer:Wow. No way. Yes, both scored on. People are going to think we're cheating though. I know, but no. I guarantee you haven't. That's amazing. Right, so we go on. Do you ever hear Drogba? I'm sorry. I've only got Drogba left. Drogba. I get to go first this time. It's sudden death, isn't it? First Alan does, now me. Drogba. Do you both want Drogba? We'll let you do that on this one. He's gone the old reverse psychology there, hasn't he? He's trying to put us off. If either of you wants to choose someone else, I'm going to let you, right? But you can both have drog, but on just this occasion, if you want.
29:40Alan Shearer:I can't think of anyone else. Well, you can. Over 100? Or around that... What did you say it was? 108 for Harland and... And Giggs. Giggs. Was it 108? So it's less than 108, Micah. Oh, they could be tied on 108. So as you're arguing about who's going first, What are we going to do here? Spin a coin. No, go on. You can go first, Micah. I've already got Drogba left. That's all I've got in me. Okay. You're going Drogba. Are you going Drogba as well, Alan? Or are you going to go with someone else? Well, I mean, it's stupid if we go the same, isn't it? It's ridiculous. No, it just hands it down to the next person.
30:20Alan Shearer:So we just do it again. Well, I can't say it. I'll go Drogba. Just trying to think of, was Ronaldo here long enough? How long was Ronaldo here? Cristiano. Oh, good shout. Good shout. I don't know if he was here long enough, was he? No, that's the only thing. I've got no one else anyway now. What are you going with? Yeah, I'll go Ronaldo. Cristiano. Cristiano Ronaldo. And you've got Didier Drogba, right? So, Cristiano Ronaldo scored 103 goals. Oh, no. And he's in 15th place. Didier Drogba scored 104 goals and he's in 14th place that's outrageous
31:10Alan Shearer:I mean I have to say guys that was a devastatingly good performance from both of you bloody hell I'm not sure how you grasp victory from the jaws of defeat there just for your interest and everyone Emmanuel Adebayor we go under 100 now 97 goals Ruud van Nistelrooy, 95 goals. Yacouba, 95 goals. Who's Yacouba? Yacoubu. If you do. Yacoubu. I spelled it wrong. I spelled it wrong. I spelled it wrong. The quiz master's fucked up. Yacoubu. Yacoubu. For the edit. Yacoubu, 95 goals. Dimitar. Berbatov. Berbatov Dimitar Berbatov 94 goals anyone shout in the last 20 played for Leeds oh Varduka correct Mark Varduka 20 well that was a lot of fun that was a lot of fun as always with these quizzes we'll do another one of those next week but for now goodbye from me goodbye from me goodbye from me
32:29Thank you.
