0:39Alan Shearer:hello and welcome to the rest is football quiz episode with Micah Richards and Alan Shearer I'm going to be the quiz master again but in the future we're going to get the boys to do that as well so Micah's showing us his phone that it's switched off I can't believe I've got to actually And he's still got his glasses on. OK.
1:03Alan Shearer:Put it on. Right, chaps. I think this is quite a good one and should be a bit of fun. Right. This is, in Premier League history, the top 10 players to score goals from outside the box. So the number of goals that they've scored. Like, you know, in all-time Premier League goal scorers, for example, top of that list is Alan Shearer, obviously, with 261, and then you've got all sorts of great names below him. So, same thing with this. I'll do what I usually do. It'll be the... Outside the box. Yeah. The person who gets the most out of the top 10 is the winner. Who wants to go first? Me. You can go first if you want, since you're the three-time loser.
1:55You need a victory, Al. I'm going to go with a guy I played with.
2:02Gary Lineker:I'm going to go Matt Letizia. Ooh, Letiz. I mean, come on, he scored some great free kicks, some wonder goals, some whatever. Yeah, I've gone so left field straight away. I'm hoping that's in like 78, 9 or 10. don't tell me I've got off to a terrible start
2:21Alan Shearer:well no not only have you got someone in the top 10 you also well you named four positions he is in ninth with Letizia come on
2:29Gary Lineker:great shot Alan thank you what are you doing what are you looking down at what are you writing I'm writing down that you went ninth Alan okay well done
2:41Alan Shearer:you'd have played with Letizia I mean yeah he was he was I mean incredibly talented foot I mean we've talked about many times when we used to do the match of the day top 10 didn't we but he was yeah
2:58Gary Lineker:made it look ridiculously easy which of course it was and this shooting technique and practice and when he used to do it was like it was always from outside the box some ridiculous ability brilliant
3:11Alan Shearer:right over to you Micah Richards I'm gonna go Alan Shearer
3:20you've got some worldies absolute world this is what I will give you credit for for once in your life them hidden hopes outstanding hidden hopes hidden hopes hidden hopes I'll recall the release
3:35Alan Shearer:do you know what the biggest shock so far of this quiz is that Alan's first answer wasn't Alan fucking I didn't want to do it I didn't want to say it Do you know what position you're in, Al? Five. Bloody hell, yes. Is it really? Yes. Fifth, yeah. Wow. Amazing. That was a good guess. Amazing. Back to you. We don't want to talk about him this year, so back to you.
4:06Alan Shearer:Rooney. Wazza. Yeah, we saw recently, obviously, at the dinner. It was always good to see him. and Wayne Rooney is, of course, in there. What position do you think?
4:17Gary Lineker:He's got more than me outside the box. No.
4:20Alan Shearer:Did you know you had 33 goals? I've got the number of goals as well. You had 33 goals. Wayne Rooney, 29. So Wayne is actually eight. Get in. Yes, eight.
4:31Gary Lineker:What have we got? So we've got fifth and seven and eight, something like that. Are we on ninth? Matt, that's easy.
4:38Alan Shearer:Some player, Wayne Rooney. Do you know what was lovely when we had the legends dinner that we talked about on the question and answer episode, he's so loved, isn't he? You know, when he got up there, as were you when you got on stage as well. But, I mean, and he was very self-deprecating, wasn't he, when he said, you know, he was talking about me. Obviously, he was talking about the broadcasting side of it. And he said he was sitting down trying to learn stuff like that. And because he said, talking about the amount of careers, he said, you know, I've had, he said, I've had three, this is my third career now.
5:16Alan Shearer:And he went, obviously I was a bit shit at the one in the middle, but I thought he was very self-deprecating.
5:26Micah, back to you. None of my three I've wrote down have been said yet. So I'm pretty happy with that. I'm going to go Steven Gerrard
5:38Alan Shearer:Steven Gerrard yes Micah he's got to be up there he's got to be top three surely Steven Gerrard yep Steven Gerrard scored well he's the highest so far he's actually in third place with 33 goals the same as you actually Alan so the joint you're actually joint third I didn't realise that because they're written in order but you are joint third with your 33 goals as well. Wayne Rooney was 29 goals. Matt Letizia 28 from outside the box. But Stevie G could hit it. He'd have had one. He'd definitely had a couple more if he'd have counted FA Cup goals. Remember the one in the final minute against, was it West Ham?
6:22Alan Shearer:West Ham. Liverpool down in Cardiff. Cardiff, yeah. We were there. Oh, what a strike. Incredible. He's down and cramp at one minute, gets up and smashes it in. from about 30 yards. Incredible moment. You know what's starting to annoy me now? When people are talking about midfielders in Premier League history, everyone's forgetting what Steven Gerrard did. You know, we go online and everyone's talking about Keane and Vieira and De Bruyne. And I know it's fresh in people's head and De Bruyne is definitely over. But Steven Gerrard used to attack, defend, run the game, spray the ball. Like he had absolutely everything in his locker.
7:02And when people said, Stephen Gerrard's not that good. I'm just like, we obviously didn't watch at the time that he was in his peak. And it was for a long time.
7:11Alan Shearer:Some people's memories are very short. What a player. What a player. Alan, Alan, over to you. And once we get the next one, we'll take a break because that will mean we've got five. So we're four for four at the moment. I've got Gerrard. You said Gerrard had the same amount as Alan. Gerrard had the same, exactly the same. 33, there are three players on 33. You haven't got the other one of those yet. And you haven't got either of the top two either. But maybe Alan will get one of them now. I'm going to go Terry Henry, Thierry Henry.
7:52Gary Lineker:Correct.
7:54Alan Shearer:What was he? Thierry was actually seventh with 29 goals, actually tied with Wayne Rooney. So Wayne Rooney was seventh as well. So Thierry Henry, seventh. Some big names here. And it's funny how they're not just, they're all great players, these, as well. It's funny how we haven't got one or two yet, Mike, as well, isn't it?
8:17Gary Lineker:What, we're given five names and we haven't got one or two yet.
8:20Alan Shearer:No, but you've got a minute to think about it while we take a short break.
8:29Alan Shearer:welcome back to the rest of his football quiz episode with Micah Allen and me Gary we've got half of the top 10 with if you get 10 for 10 here I'll be mightily impressed so it's your turn Micah you've got to think games as well it's not just strikes how many games the play. That's the route I've gone down. So I've gone Frank Lampard. Frank Lampard was a score of a lot of goals but a lot of them were arriving in the box. There's a big but. Frank Lampard is top of this list. Really?
9:13Gary Lineker:Is it really? Well done, mate. I thought I was going to nip in the lead then.
9:19Alan Shearer:And do you know he's not only top of the list he is comfortably top of the list seven goals clear of second place wow 41 goals from outside the box outside the box
9:31Gary Lineker:his goal scoring record is phenomenal yeah I mean midfielder incredible
9:36Alan Shearer:he's another one that I think you know when you're talking about the upper echelons of midfield players Micah that perhaps do you think he gets also the respect he deserves for his career A little bit like Steven Gerrard. I know they were always said that they couldn't play together, but I think they definitely could in the game now. The reason it was always so difficult, because we were sticklers for 4-4-2 at the time, and there wasn't the flexibility to fit those two players in. But they definitely would now. I mean, crikey. If Lampard was playing now, everyone would be saying he's the best midfielder in world football, because we're not just talking, everyone's like, oh, he just gets tappings.
10:18But now with the terminology that Alan's using on Match of the Day now, the turnovers in the pocket space and the transitions, his late runs into the box, everyone will be going wild for him. And he's a top player in terms of that run into the box and how intelligent he is on the field. He might have not been as good as Gerrard in the all-round game, but offensively, he was outstanding.
10:46Alan Shearer:I mean, I don't think there's, I think he was, you know, had such a great work ethic as well. I think he had everything about, and it's worth mentioning, how well is he doing with Coventry? What a job he's done there. They were just above the relegation zone, weren't they, when he took over last season. And he took them to the playoffs. And then I thought the best thing that could happen to Frank for his career
11:09Gary Lineker:was that they kind of didn't get through the playoffs,
11:15Alan Shearer:because I think it would have been too soon for them. But to fail, if that's the right word, admirably, which they did. And what a start to the season. I think he's had 27 goals in his first nine games they've scored, which is more than any other team in all of the leagues. So, yeah, keep it going, Frank. We like Frank. Yeah. We like Frank. Yeah. He's great. He's great. Back to you, Al. We're six for six so far. Very impressive.
11:40Gary Lineker:I'm going to go Paul Scholes because he loved the shot from outside the box. So I'm just going to go on the number of games. So I'm going to go Paul Scholes.
11:52Alan Shearer:Yeah, he did score a hell of a lot. But there's a but coming. There is a but coming, Alan. But he didn't make the top 10. Bollocks! Oh, dear. First bit. But, I mean, that actually surprised me. When I got this list this morning, I thought, it's Paul Scholes. But he's not in the top 10. there's definitely one that's in there that I thought you was going to say I was keeping it up my sleeve but you probably thinking more assists Sir David Beckham he's got to be the top 10 he's got to be absolutely if he's not in of course he's in I'll get naked right now
12:32Gary Lineker:you see he'll go naked right now thank god he's in there Jesus yeah god
12:36Alan Shearer:deary me

12:37Gary Lineker:wouldn't want that little todger on the rest of his football
12:41Alan Shearer:surely he's called big mix for a reason now it's not for that either it's his arms
12:47Gary Lineker:it's his arms
12:48Alan Shearer:it's his biceps I love that word I've heard that word for years Todger David Beckham is second one goal more than Alan Shearer on 34 Bex so we'll put Sir Bex Sir Bex is better isn't it I like that so now I'm struggling now I'm all out now now it's free for all so am I Back to you, Al. I'm going to go left field, Leeds, Chelsea,
13:21Gary Lineker:Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank.
13:24Alan Shearer:Jimmy Floyd? Yeah. That's a shout out. That is, Al. And do you know how many he's got? Go on. The same as you. Really? Wow.
13:33Gary Lineker:Can you remember that volley? I think it was against Liverpool at Ellen Road.
13:37Alan Shearer:Yeah, he could whack it.
13:39Gary Lineker:Very early on in the Premier League.
13:41Alan Shearer:That big arse he backed in, didn't he? Yeah. His thighs were big, powerful thighs that smashed them. He's on Strictly Come Dancing now, isn't he?
13:50Gary Lineker:Well, apparently so.
13:51Alan Shearer:I mean, he's not a show that I've watched, but yeah. Has he started? I don't know. I don't know, I'm not sure. I've just seen something like that. He was on it. How was your beatmaker? I watched it, I didn't see the first week because everyone was raving about Karen Carney, but I was working. So I watched the second week. It didn't really happen for Karen on the second week, but Karen two footballers yeah Jimmy come on I was doing the salsa I was just like Jimmy was he good Jimmy he used to be an angry terrifying footballer who smashed the ball now he's sampering on the BBC I've tried to take him seriously but I just can't I just can't he's a great lad though I've worked with him a few times when he's done his punditry with us and he's a lovely guy and he's a good player.
14:45Alan Shearer:He's enjoying himself. That's the most important as well.
14:48Gary Lineker:I give it three years before you're on that, Micah. I can promise you now I would never go on Strictly. I love it. Strictly, I love you. You know I do. I love you so much. You've got some moves as well, though. You can shake around, man. You've got some moves. No, not the moves that they're doing. It's all that. No, no, you've got a point. You're looking natural to me.
15:10Alan Shearer:You're looking natural when you do that.
15:13Gary Lineker:Will he come with a big bucks in a year or two? He'll be on there.
15:17Alan Shearer:He'll be on there. As long as you can still do the pod in your sequins, it'll be fine. Right, we've only got two names left. Alan, you need to get one here to kind of stay in it, really.
15:30Gary Lineker:It's Micah's turn. I got Jimmy, so it's Micah, yeah.
15:32Alan Shearer:Hasselbal, is he in fourth or sixth? Jimmy Floyd was equal third, but Alan Shearer and Steven Gerrard. So what we're looking for, six and ten? We are looking for six and ten. That is correct. Yes, they're the two left. But naming them is another matter. It's a disaster. I'm all out of guesses. Gareth Bale? Gareth Bale. Obviously spent a lot of time at Real Madrid, though, didn't he? I know, yeah. But he used to always score bangers, didn't he? That last season or two at Tottenham, he scored some screamers in the top corner. But he's not in the top ten, so...
16:08Gary Lineker:I'm back, I'm back. I'm back in the game.
16:13Alan Shearer:Yeah, that was another one I was surprised. I think if he'd have stayed, obviously, in the Premier League a bit longer because he had many, many years in the Real Madrid. Oh, crap. Okay, Alan.
16:24Gary Lineker:Well, I've got two names in my head. I wouldn't suggest both of them to us out loud. I'm not going to tell you both of them, but I am going to say Ronaldo. Cristiano. Cristiano.
16:34Alan Shearer:He left the Premier League very young, Al.
16:36Gary Lineker:Yeah, but he came back as well. he scored a couple of free kicks as well so I might just sneak into 10th here he might not though and he doesn't sorry no it's not in shit Micah do we get any clues what sort of here are we talking
16:56Alan Shearer:no clues yet no clues yet I think this this the only thing I'm going to say is the whole list of absolutely brilliant footballers top top level I'm going to go That's a great clue Except for Shearer David Ginola David Ginola Yes Is the wrong answer Not in the top 10 Not in the top 10 This is tense Alan
17:27Gary Lineker:My other one was That I had in my head I had Ronaldo And I also had Kevin De Bruyne Kevin De Bruyne I've been in it with me. Yeah. Yes, Al. Yes.
17:44Alan Shearer:He's in sixth place. Oh. With 30, I mean, Kevin De Bruyne. I mean. How have you left him out, Micah?
17:51Gary Lineker:How can you not think of him?
17:53Alan Shearer:Did you see the bit of play when the Napoli game recently, where he made the goals for Hoyland? Yeah, I did. I did. I did see them. Top, top notch. On a plate for him, wasn't there? Yeah, brilliant.
18:04Gary Lineker:Imagine playing with him to your right-hand side with the balls that he's putting in the box for you. Wow. Goals, goals, goals. Indeed.
18:12Alan Shearer:Right, Wiker, we've got one name left and he's in 10th place with 25 goals. Kevin De Bruyne was 30 goals, three fewer than Gerrard Hasselbank and a certain Boldy over here. So we're looking for 10th place, you said?
18:33Gary Lineker:10th place, yeah. I've got Lampard, Beckham, Gerrard, Hussleby, I'm going to go with Sergio Aguero.
18:44Alan Shearer:Sergio Aguero? He was a penalty box six-yard man. What on earth made you think of him? Well, Micah. No. Oh, come on. Come on, Alex. Victory is in your grasp here.
19:01Gary Lineker:I'm just going to chuck a left fielder in here, but he's been playing forever and he's been at so many clubs. I'm going to chuck, and he's still playing, I'm going to chuck James Milner in. Oh, my God.
19:17Alan Shearer:No. Bullocks! Yeah! Micah, to tie it at 5-5, come on. I'm struggling, guys. I'm struggling. This is one of the ones I just assumed you'd automatically get you, Dr. Pearce. Oh, really? What the fuck? I've got it. I know who it is. Hold it, Al. Hold it. So, because he said, I've got it, that means it's someone his ear, really, doesn't it? No. No. See, I've got a good poker face. I need a name, Big Mix. This is a podcast, and we can't have huge pauses. Chuck some more adverts in, quick.
19:58Alan Shearer:I need a name, otherwise I'm going to hand it over to Alan. I'm going to go with... Dennis Bergkamp. Dennis Bergkamp is the wrong answer. Allen, for the victory. For a 6-4 victory.
20:12Gary Lineker:I can't think of any others. I thought you just sort of won. Were you bluffing? Yeah, I was going to say Dennis as well.
20:21Alan Shearer:Oh, were you? No, no.
20:22Gary Lineker:Another left field one. Good Jonson. Nope. Oh, fucking hell. Are we talking...
20:332000s Gary on when he was in his prime nobody scored
20:37Alan Shearer:2000 goals not even not even Messi or Ronaldo Robert Perez Robert Perez no don't do this no okay
20:49Gary Lineker:last answer have we said Tevez no we haven't said Tevez that's a no we haven't said him or is he 10 that's a no that we haven't said him
20:57Alan Shearer:oh Tevez
20:57Gary Lineker:Tevez
20:58Alan Shearer:I said Tevez well who said him which one of you me I said him
21:04Gary Lineker:I said I'm going to say Tevez and I said we said him but I'm saying Tevez in that case Alan is
21:11Alan Shearer:wrong
21:15you dickhead
21:16Alan Shearer:come on you two this is right this is one of the greats man one of the absolute greats one of the absolute greats absolute greats and he's still playing James Milton you've already said James Milton You've said James Milner. No, I'm talking one of the greats. Harry Kane, that's what we're talking about. Harry Kane. Correct, Michael. Oh, my God. Yes. Have we missed him? I mean, I couldn't believe it because he's scored. I mean, he's such a brilliant finisher. Right. To see who wins this, who's closest to his total goals outside the area wins. So I need the number of goals. what do you mean
22:00Gary Lineker:the number of goals as in what explain please
22:02Alan Shearer:the number of goals that Harry Kane has scored from outside the box in the Premier League oh my god twenty
22:14four Micah well it's never going to go one up or one down so I'll just go one up twenty five twenty five
22:20Alan Shearer:is spot on the absolutely correct answer I don't know oh god he's going to be your nemesis Harry Kane he's going to come back to the Premier League actually there's talk of him signing new contracts at Bayern so that would cheer yeah I'm awful at Harry signing new contracts absolutely what are the chances of that I only went one up because you went 24 I could only go one up or one down I went one up oh my that was total fluke I don't want to take that give us one more question we can't finish on that because that was fluke I don't want to I don't want to win with fluke okay Okay, how many goals did I score from outside the box in top flight football?
23:04Alan Shearer:Two. Micah? One. One is a great answer. I was at Manchester United.
23:21Alan Shearer:One is pathetic, isn't it? I was never that far out. I was never that far out. well that's it that was a giggle that was a giggle and so that's it goodbye from me goodbye from me
23:35Gary Lineker:goodbye from me have a great weekend everyone
