Automatic transcript. May contain errors.0:05This is The Run Through. I'm Chloe Malle. And I'm Choma Nardi. And we're here in person. Very exciting. I feel like this only happens like three times a year. I know. I know. Choma, very excited that you're here in person. To what do we owe this honor? Well, actually, I'm on my way to Nike in Portland. Oh, my God. Fun. I've never been to the Nike campus and they invited me. So I'm going to be flying out to Portland for the first time on Saturday. I flew in as the World Cup was happening. So I was standing. Seriously, on Sunday? Yes. And so in the immigration line, which was really long, I was looking over the shoulder of someone on their phone to watch the game.
0:46But I know you were actually there. It was so fun. I can only imagine. I can't wait to hear all about it. I had the best time. And I, as we know, don't care about soccer. well you do now i do now yes graham and i went and he obviously does care a lot about soccer so we were very excited and it took a long time to get there and a long time to leave yeah we got a parking pass right from the uh we were invited by the johnson family who own the jets and so we were in their suite and so we got a great parking pass but then because trump was there There was a huge Secret Service holdup. So we had to go through.
1:28We had to get our car screened by a very cute German shepherd. And then we finally got to our suite. And it was very fun because it was this motley crew of Ashley Graham and Carly Claus and Jon Hamm and his wife Anna and Ellie Goulding and her partner, Anya Taylor -Joy, who's Argentinian. So she was wearing an Argentina scarf and her husband. So it was a fun group. Also, apparently the deadliest boxer who just fought at the UFC fight. It was just a lot of interesting characters in this suite, including Anna Winter, who kept asking why no one was scoring. Yeah, it seemed like it was a quiet game in the beginning.
2:19I think if you love soccer, it was an exciting game because both teams played very well. But if you're someone like me and Anna who like a little bit more action, Anna just kept being like, why is nothing happening? It felt like everybody in the world, everybody in the world was there. It was such a star-studded crowd. It was a very star-studded crowd. I kept being like, oh, there's so-and-so. Oh, there's so-and-so. So, yes, that was, it was exciting. It felt like a big moment. Also, it felt like a very newsy weekend because I also saw The Odyssey. Oh, I'm going to see that on Friday. I loved it.
2:58I also had my version of Barbenheimer, which is that I saw The Mo Odyssey, which was I went to Moana in the morning and The Odyssey at night. Arthur Albert and I went to the 11 a.m. Odyssey. We were one of three people there. I love seeing a movie in the middle of the day. I'm going to see it at 3 p.m. I mean, I spent half the time on the phone with Sergio and Iggy, but otherwise I was very present and I love The Rock. Great hair in Moana. I think my highlight is the music and the hair. The Rock's hair, incredible curl pattern. Wow. And then the Odyssey I saw on Friday night, I didn't see it in IMAX, but it was still felt thrilling.
3:39Yeah, I'm not seeing it in IMAX. Is that going to be a real problem? I don't think so. I think it's fine. It was still very exciting. Okay. And it feels like great dramatic movie making where you go for gripping storytelling. Although my aura rang, said afterward, they're like, you were stressed for three hours straight. Usually when I go to the movies, it thinks I'm asleep. Not when they're stabbing the cyclops, let me tell you. Oh, my God. The reclined seats at my local theater in downtown work a lot, though. Good luck with that. Okay, let's see. And Cersei is turning these men into pigs, but sure.
4:16You're not sleeping. I'll tell you that. But we did such fun Odyssey stories that it made it an exciting content rollout to accompany the movie, including Max Berlinger took it upon himself. Margot and Booba had the great idea of recreating Matt Damon's exercise regimen for the Odyssey. What did he do? Well, a lot of leg squats. I mean, he looks fantastic in this movie. And very strong gladiator warrior thighs. And so Margot had Max embark on the Bodyssey. Wow. And got Matt Damon's Odyssey body. Wow. And so that was very exciting. Laird did a great piece on all the Grecian looks, Odyssey-inspired looks across the runways throughout time.
5:12And those were really fun to look at. I love that look. And we got a first look at the costumes, which are really interesting. They made some cool choices. I also love the fact that Matt Damon's stunt double was a woman, which I think is really fun. Gosh, trying to keep up with Matt Damon. Oh, my God. I know. What is your New York City itinerary? so I landed on Sunday I went and got my braids done with a really fantastic braider who works a lot with Jawara and she had come fresh from Dolce remind us who Jawara is Jawara is a fantastic hairstylist who actually styled art who did the hair for our June cover story with a knock which has those beautiful birds oh yes kind of circling her head which is gorgeous and he frequently works with this braider, Mika, and she is based uptown in Harlem and she did the braids for a WA for the Met, which were really beautiful.
6:17So I had been a long time since I'd done braids and she's so great and so incredibly fast and has the best sense of humor. So, you know, you can spend like a few hours with her quite easily. How long did that take? It didn't take that long. I think we started around two and I ended at around five. That's pretty good. Yeah. And I said, oh, please use, you know, just I just want just my own hair. Then obviously she went rogue and I have these, you know, very, very long, too long, very long braids. But, you know, we'll forgive her because the result is great. They're so fab. The result is good. So we're so we're happy.
6:50And then, yeah, so then it's been it's literally literally that's been my itinerary so far. But I saw Bathsheba who told me she's launching a lingerie line, which is very exciting. Oh, that's fun. I didn't realize that. by her store to get one of the iconic Nick's dresses that she's made with the Nick's shirts, which was fun. And then let's see what else. What should I do while I'm here? What exhibit should I see? I'm like constantly thinking, I'm now being tasked with doing a newsletter because inspired by yours, Malware. I love Naughty by Nature. Thank you. But now I'm scrambling to seem like I have an interesting life.
7:24So if there's any kind of recommendations, places I should go, news stores. You know what you might like that is really cool? Have you been to the New Frick? No, I still haven't been. I should go to that. It's amazing. And I don't know if the Gainsborough is still up, but they have this incredible exhibit of lithographs, of fashion plates that it's about ruffles and bows. Oh, my God, my favorite. I feel like you would really like it. They're really beautiful. I think I have a thing now to do. Thank you. That is very me. But wait, you interviewed Carol G? Oh, my gosh. The Carol G? The Carol G. Tell me everything.
8:04It was, she was so charming and such a delight. Ignacio Murillo, our model whisperer, joined me. He is a big fan of hers. He also did a pronunciation prep with me beforehand of all of her album titles. Oh, my gosh. Yeah, I would definitely need that. Tropic Coqueta. And Carol was great. And I find it fascinating to hear how these musical stars get through a tour because it is like a marathon for a year. And she has a lot of – she does ice baths. I mean she is like an athlete in the way she's preparing for that. Ice baths. She has a chef who's only cooking her clean things. She listens to books.
8:52I know. It is your dream. You should just go on tour, Gemma. be her longevity like like partner in crime yeah exactly and it was also fun to hear about how she plays with fashion and who she's working with on the tour and she who does she who stars her she works with brett allen nelson who also worked with doja and she has a lot of looks i think it's six looks in each tour and uh she really gravitates towards colorful pattern happy things um girl after my own heart. And so it was fun to hear about what she was looking forward to and getting ready for that, that her tour starts this Friday, tomorrow.
9:34Oh, amazing. I know. She's going to Chicago first, so. So I'll miss her. You can stop on your way to Portland. Oh, my God.
9:45You know what I loved that also you might love because the design of the exhibition is really special is this Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera exhibit at MoMA where they sort of built a set of one of the tree paintings. And it's very cool. It's quite small. So you can just go in. Also, hot tip, you can use your Condé ID and just go in fast. I shall use that hot tip. Artie and I went to the Duchamp exhibit and it was really fun and good. But I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the Frida Diego. Oh, and there's a big Frida exhibit in London. So I could do a whole Frida tour. Okay, I love that. I'm going to take that tip.
10:26God, wasn't it such a weekend of crazy weddings?
10:33No comments. Poor Liam Hess has had many a summer weekend ruined by weddings, but this weekend really took the cake. One of the big weddings this weekend was Gabriette, the model. That wedding, so good. to 1975 frontman Matt Healy. And we had a fitting, final fitting video with Gabriette in her extremely dramatic Mathieu Ficale dress. I love that she went with Mathieu Ficale. I know, it was really fun. I mean, who else would get married in that brand? It was brilliant. It was genius. She looked so good. She looked fantastic. And also, I mean, explain what you mean by that for those who aren't familiar with the brand.
11:13So Mathieu Ficale, the very controversially name, also known as fecal matter, Fecal Matter have a long history with Vogue.com. They were influencers, I guess. I mean, very influencers back in the day from Canada who had this account and both had this very extraordinary sense of style. And they've somehow parlayed that into quite an incredible clothing line, which they now show in Paris every season. Somehow their show always gets a moment. They were kind of famous for being attendees at rick owens honestly they used to be like rick owens and their pieces are quite out there a bit um macabre yeah yeah i mean if you it's not what you think of naturally for a wedding ensemble no no but i the silhouettes are extreme and and have often like historical references so i i think that they actually kind of works when you're having a wedding because i I thought, I love how wasted the silhouette was.
12:14And it was almost like a frock coat with the dress. And it's very her. Like, she is, you know, she has that kind of, like, rock gothic, spooky. So it was cool that she could, because she could have had, there was so many brands who would have loved to have worked with her. So many designers, so many people. So it's kind of cool. And Zendaya has been wearing Machère Ficale. Right. She wore an incredible actual wings to an Odyssey premiere. And she, as you will learn when you go see it, plays Athena. So she was in really method dressing for her full goddess look. That woman loves to method dress.
12:56She really does. She really takes the assignment seriously. She really goes in. Like, it is quite impressive. And I love that she also wears brands that are a little bit unexpected. didn't you know she wears everything from kind of like couture to indie brands like Mattya Fical. Yeah we also had tennis player Tommy Paul and influencer Paige Lorenz who wore Carolina Herrera their wedding was a big one this weekend and I was very excited about Kareem Rama who does Subway Takes his wedding. Oh he got married. Which was really fun and a great New York wedding and Mel C I know. That was the big news in London.
13:37We were so, so excited to have the exclusive on that wedding. I kept on refreshing the Daily Mail to see if they were going to scoop us. And they only ever got like really kind of through a glass darkly images. It was like nothing. So we just had this fantastic. I mean, people love Mel C. Obviously, she wore Victoria Beckham. Sadly, Victoria was at the World Cup with me. I wonder if Victoria was that happy to be there because she never seems to be that into the game. But she made a beautiful dress for Mel C. And it was pretty much like a Spice Girl reunion. You saw a whole picture of the minors.
14:16Victoria Beckham, who was excused, obviously. It was so sweet. It was very sweet. And I just loved how happy Mel C looked. She looked so good. A very simple dress. Sort of the anti-Matiore Fical. Yeah. It was much more in what I guess it was like a… Carolyn Bessette. Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Very simple slip dress embroidered with some kind of flowers. But it was very simple and really chic and very her. Yeah. I think Victoria very much understands her friend's style and made something that was really fitting for the occasion. And she just looks so happy. I know. That's the best thing about women.
14:51We love a happy bride. We love a happy bride. Oh, my God. You guys have got the Teen Vogue Summit coming up this week. Fest. Teen Vogue Fest this weekend. My bad. My bad. Fest, fest, fest. It's going to be so fun. I'm really excited. It's an all-day emporium. Arthur and Alice Albert will be in attendance. Oh, my goodness. So we'll medal Elaine chicken tenders and Papa Bagels. It's going to be so fun. All the things important to me. I'm really excited. It's a Dougal greenhouse, which everyone keeps calling either Dougal or Dougal. Who's a bean? I went once for maybe a Tory Burch show. Someone had their show there.
15:24Or Christopher John Rogers. Anyway, it's at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Oh, I think I know where it is. You can take the ferry to get there. Oh, so nice. And it's supposed to be great weather. I think it'll be fun. So, yes, everyone buy your tickets. There's a few left. Team Vogue Fest, Saturday. Awesome. That's it for headlines today. We are going to take a short break. And when we're back, Carol G.

18:05Today is a very special day on the podcast because we are joined in the studio by our global superstar. One of the most decorated artists in Latin music, a chart-topper, a Grammy winner, and the first Latina to headline Coachella. Carol, we're so excited to have you here. And I have to say, there's been so much excitement on our team when they heard you were coming. And they're like, oh my God, Carol G's coming? This is so exciting. That's good to know. Yeah. I have to say hi to the whole team. Have you been following World Cup? Have you been watching? I've been watching. Because Colombia did well.
18:37Colombia, yeah. It was a really sad thing. We were at rehearsals in the big screen of the, like, literally the screen of the show. Like, seeing the game. And it was so sad when we were out. I know. And Shakira is performing. She did the opening and she's closing. That's our representation right there, you know? We feel proud also. That's a Colombian moment too. Well, now I'm starting to think like every time like the World Cup, it's like I just associate Shakira. Literally. It's like every time. It's something that for sure because like the last World Cup, not this one, like four years ago, it was like six different songs and you didn't find or you don't remember one that you said like this was the song of that season.
19:21But right now with her, it's kind of, she has the song. Yeah. Have you ever performed at a huge sport event like that in the U.S. or anywhere? Not in the U.S. I think last year I did the NFL, an NFL game in Brazil. Okay. Oh, fun. Yeah, it felt big for me, you know, like Brazil is another, for me it's kind of another world in music. And it was like so special to do that. Yeah. Sounds like you've been just locked in rehearsals all summer. but what has this summer looked like for you? Yeah, summer has been looking like rehearsals and creating at the same time. I've been like so inspired, like doing music for like since November last year.
20:00I started like in between preparing tour, preparing Coachella, doing music. I love doing music. I love to spend time in the studio, like finding new sounds and going to in different ways. So yeah, it's been kind of like that. I'm a very tour person. Okay. I think I get a little stressed when I have more than two weeks in the same place. Oh, interesting. Well, speaking of your tour, Viajando por el Mundo Tropitor starts on July 24, and we're recording a week before. This is your most ambitious tour to date because it will be on stadiums, and it will be across Europe, Latin America, and the U.S.
20:39You will be touring until July 2027, so like a whole— Oh, it's crazy. A whole year. A whole year. So what are you most excited about? Actually, I'm just excited to—I'm waiting for the people to see what we pull out together. It's amazing, and it's been like a journey where I was just trying to see myself in the position I always dream myself to see me. This time is kind of different because I did a list, like a list of things that I would love to see in myself, Like the skills that I want to get better. Like I want to get better at least. Dancing. I wanted to dance a lot because my last album is about like this showgirl, Latina showgirl.
21:24So I was like, if I'm going to be a showgirl, this has to be a spectacle in all the ways. You know, singing in my wardrobe, my dancing. So everything is so massive in different ways. And I wanted to just make sure all my capacities and my skills were on point for this tour. So I'm kind of excited for the people to see what we have, but at the same time to see my performance. Like I want to check myself in a different perspective this time. So I'm very excited. I just want this to happen already. It's been exhausting. Yeah, it's kind of I feel that when we start the tour, it's going to get a little more chill.
22:05Okay. Because the days before, like, you're putting all together, like, checking everything you said, rehearsing and everything. But then you start and it feels a little less rushed. What makes you most nervous before you start a tour?
22:21Maybe getting the show in a place that I can find a balance in between what I want to show and the connection with the fans. It's kind of, I don't want to create a show that is like I'm watching something crazy, but at the same time it's like soulless of empty of connection. So that's what I'm like most stressed about to feel. You know, for me, you create a show and your fans are the half of that show. How they answer and how they react to the show is part of the show. So that's the part that I can't control until I'm there. That's what gets me more nervous right now, just to see the reaction about the things we created.
23:01And then how do you prepare? Like, how long does it take to prepare to basically do this whole tour, be like hours and hours on stage and all the dancing? Yeah, because to me, it seems like preparing to run a marathon. Like, there must be like a training schedule. Like, what is your physical, what's the tour fitness schedule? Literally, I think it's literally it's kind of now I want to run a marathon just to see if I'm doing that good. Because I feel like with this preparation has been crazy. But yeah, since October, we just got ready a team of a trainer. I traveled with a chef and someone that helped me with my recovery in my body.
23:42I want to hear about all those things. Like what is your chef making? what's the main staples of your, like, tour prep diet? It's crazy because people will feel like I don't eat carbs or things like that, and it's crazy. No, actually, I do eat a lot of carbs because of the long day rehearsals, but it's most about, like, taking out, like, sugar, processed sugar. Processed sugar, yeah. Yeah, exactly. No, no, like, those things. I speak Spanish. No. Yeah, you see? Yeah, you see? It's just save us in this conversation. But yeah, it's kind of to do a clean food, like a clean eating, and eating exactly what I have to eat to be, to have my body with the energy that I need.
24:27Like the amount of protein, the amount of carbs, the amount of fruits, everything to get super balanced. It's been a learning process also. And it's kind of at the same time you get in love with. I feel different than before. Like, I feel very energetic. I feel that my body is just taking it in a good, like, all the hard work we're doing. My body feels okay. So I'm excited. I don't know. You have to see then if you can come to the show. The stage is huge. We kind of, we have the stage here, but we're kind of going from one side to the stadium to the other side. What is the kind of recovery stuff you do?
25:08Like, do you do ice baths? Do you do cryotherapy? Or what are they giving you? I do cryo. We do cold plunge. Yeah. That is ice bath. And we have physiotherapists that travel, not just with me and the dancers. And we have all the equipment, literally everything, like electronic things. They bring massages with volcano rocks. They have like the Las Ventosas, the cups. Oh, like cupping. Oh, yeah. So we bring everything, whatever you need is literally there. Amazing. It's amazing. And it helps a lot. Are you taking any supplements, peptides? Chloe, in supplements, I just, in every, every single meal, I get more full about the water that I drink with my supplements than the food that I eat.
Read the full transcript
26:02It's crazy. I just feel like, I don't know. Yeah, but it's kind of six to eight pills in every meal, just taking supplements because, yeah, it's— Wow, six to eight pills every meal. Every meal. If you had to pick two supplements you couldn't live without, what would they be? I'm going to choose magnesium. I'm going to choose creatina, creatine, creatine. Yeah. I'm going to choose vitamins and omega. Omega is the one that they ask me, really, I don't eat seafood. I don't like it a lot. Yeah. I said I'm allergic, but I'm not. Just to make sure they don't cook anything. Yeah. But yeah, those are the supplements that I think I have to make sure.
26:55Do you do any kind of meditation or sort of how do you stay grounded when you're moving around that much? I like to listen to podcasts. What do you listen to? Right now I'm listening to a podcast that I like a lot. It's Make Art, Not Content. It's a really, really interesting podcast they do. Like they take real stories and they take real stories from real people. And they make kind of a parallel and they help you to go through things. And they explain you how to do things. And I really like that. And I think that's my meditation. I like to listen to audio books and podcasts. And I'm not the one that I sit and just do.
27:37And I say it because my mind is so full of things and I never, never get it. Like I cannot. I don't know why, but my brain is all the time full of things. So I rather listen to podcasts. And that's kind of amazing. What audio book are you listening to? Okay, now I'm listening to Prostituta Barata. Like Prostituta Sagrada. it's a sacred sacred prostitute yeah sacred prostitute it's a really amazing book about the sexual energy from a women from women it's kind of not from one it's like how powerful is sexual energy from women in all the in all the ways it's not like it's not a book that talks about sexuality but it's kind of how our sexual energy energy it's so powerful and so hypnotic and if we can canalize that it's kind of yeah we can do a lot it's kind of to put the connection inside us it's a very spiritual amazing women book yeah we have to read I know do you like reading?
28:43yeah I love reading I love listening to audio books too yeah should we talk about fashion? yeah fashion at the tour wow let's talk about fashion you work with Britt Allen so how how did that start? When did you start working with him? With Brett, wow, now it's kind of almost like seven years. And it's crazy because fashion for me, it's been a journey. And it's been like up and downs. And I don't know. Like first, I think I was trying, like for me, fashion at the first place, it was like putting cool looks and just look cool or experimental or, you know, it's kind of for fashion. I understood for fashion before.
29:26But now with the time, it's kind of like I started like looking at different things and how I resonate with things. And for me now, I just found myself in a way that everything has to represent who really I am and my identity as a Colombian, as a Latina. And in this journey, yes, like now I know brands that I like or I connect more and they represent like my message or what I want to share. What are some examples? For example, for tour, I found like for one of the looks that for me was the most iconic at Coachella, Etro. I feel like they were all designing things. It was very, it felt like cultural in a type of way.
30:10And they are the ones that are like they have a segment in my show that they always going to be from them. I love Etro. They're really good. And now I have for this tour, like I'm working things with Roberto Cavalli. I found their designs very myself. And I'm working with— Roberto Cavalli is designing Shakira's outfit on Sunday, which I can tell you guys secretly because this is going to air after it. It's secretly, but now, yeah. Ah, yeah, because this is going to be— Yeah, later then. Yeah. You can read on Vogue.com the exclusive behind her look. I love. Yeah, he's amazing. Yeah. Pooch is doing things.
30:51We're working with Chrome Hearts in some special outfits that is going to be out in a specific segment in the show that is coming later then. How many looks in total do you have for the tour? For the tour, it's going to be a crazy amount. But in the show, we have six different segments where I change clothes. You change six times? Yeah. Over, what is it, like two hours, three hours? It's two hours and a half, the show. Yeah. and the way we have it like we have six different segments and we're working So shorter than The Odyssey Yeah Yeah My God Yeah a little Are you going to see The Odyssey Are there any summer movies you have time to see or you're too busy I really want to see I don't know if like I'm really waiting for Dune I don't know if it's going I don't remember if it's going to be the summer It's Christmas So you've got a minute That's the movie that I'm like really into when I saw like the announcement that's really Did you see the first two?
31:46Yeah of course Okay I love from that movie, like, everything. Like, actually, the fashion in that movie is kind of crazy. And even the music, I'm very into music in the movies. Like, I really like to feel like the world, like the build with the music. And some of the movies, they don't really put, like, that much of attention to it. But don't actually, they do a great job with music. And I like that, too. So I'm waiting for it. Can you tell me about your tattoos? Because I know one, I read a lot that one is Selena. But who are these other ladies? Selena, Rihanna, me. Oh, wow. Yeah, this is. The Holy Trinity.
32:28And it's crazy because they've been like my, you know, you get to know new people and you always find like inspo in different people. But for me, it's been always them. Wow. It doesn't change. Like Selena is my ultimate forever muse. I really love all about her. And Rihanna is kind of the alive person that I admire the most as a woman. I really like. Have you spent time with her? I met her at the Super Bowl. At her Super Bowl, she invited me to just meet her backstage. And it was a perfect, beautiful time. And yeah, after that, I haven't seen her anymore. But I felt really honored that she gave me the opportunity to just met her.
33:15If you had to get a new tattoo today, what would it be? I'm not into doing more tattoos. Oh, no more. No, it's crazy because actually there's some tattoos that you do because you like them at that moment and you don't feel that they resonate with you anymore. So I decided to not get more tattoos. Okay. That's my body. I have like four and I want to get rid of them. Yeah, I have like four tattoos. Because I'm like, I grew up, I changed. Yes, you changed and they don't go with you anymore. The good thing is that I stopped doing it and I just feel that I like tattoos. I like to see them in people, but I don't want to get any more tattoos.
33:54Okay. Maybe one crazy day with friends is you get one more. A little tequila. Exactly, with a little tequila. With a little tequila. With a little tequila. I thought about it. I have a Dalmatian named Tuxedo, so I've been thinking about maybe that's one. To have him tattooed. No, maybe that would be my next one. Okay, but that's a pretty solo one. Just spots everywhere. Just spots all over your body? That's why she was asking. Yeah, just spots all over my body. Do you have any pets? Are you in one place enough? Okay. I have pets. Okay. I have five dogs in Colombia. Oh, my God. Uh-huh. And actually, someone gave me a dog two weeks ago for me to go with him on tour.
34:41And in the second day of the rehearsals, we put this, all the stage together. We were in Missouri, in San Luis. We have a place with the whole stage. And at the second day there, the dog got super scared about the music. Super scared. So he was holding it, and he jumped, and he broke his little leg. And now it cannot go with me. So my mom just came to take care of him, and my mom is struggling with me. It's an oven pincher. but he's so cute so it feels like he's super loyal but he's the best company he was like the perfect Charlito and he was like he's the perfect company but now he's in love with my mom well that's great so my heart is broken he was supposed to be in love with me but he's in love with my mom so now my mom is traveling with me she's taking care of him but yeah I don't know if he's gonna continue with us or not Does any of your family usually travel with you?
35:40At the last tour, my parents started traveling with me much more. I didn't know they were going to be that happy. They were so happy. Cute. Yeah, so at this tour, I hope that they can come more often. Yeah, they really enjoy the show. So if I can make it that happy, why not? So yeah, actually they're going to come. Fun. Well, you're like super close to your dad. Well, probably both, but I was watching your documentary and I just kept seeing how close you were so with your dad. He's also a musician. Yeah, my father is a musician. It was always his dream to be a singer. So he really resonates with everything that I do.
36:26And actually, I do love a lot my mom at the same place, like my father, both of them. But the connection with my father, like musically, in a music way, was super deep. So he was like a really big support for me. So yeah, we have a really close relationship and he still, he was like my first manager ever. And now I still like send him music when I create, when I write songs. I was like, bah, what do you think about this song? Or listen to these two songs. I'm kind of deciding what do you feel about both of them? And he still like give me clues, suggestions, opinions. And I love that. Well, there was a moment that I loved in the documentary where you were celebrating your success of your album.
37:08And what he told you was something about you have to be also prepared when you are not at the top. And that just took a lot for me of how he's always thinking ahead. My father, he really goes a step ahead in everything. He's always like, actually, when I was studying, He was like, bebe, don't get worried about it. Like the hardest you work, the biggest is going to come. So just be aware, be aware, be prepared, be ready. And then he always just reminds me to be grounded because there's going to be a day where I'm not going to be in this same position and it's going to be okay. You know, everyone has their moment, their momentum, and I just enjoy a lot mine and really taking care of them and putting like my old commitment to be my best version while I have this momentum with me.
38:11Well, hopefully we'll be on very, very long. Very long. Yeah. I hope. And I love that you grew up singing duets with your dad. Yeah, that was a thing. Those were my first stages in my life. Yeah, we all together, like, he used to have a band and he used to play songs and he used to bring me on stage when I was like five years old to play with him duet songs. Wow. So those were like my first memories about me singing for people. My first stages. We are going to take a short break. And when we're back, more from Carol G.

The new novel you can't stop thinking about, the movie everybody's seeing this weekend, and we kind of go galaxy brain with it. Right, we take the ideas at the center of these things and trace them across history, across mediums, all to get to the bottom of why this particular text is important right now in politics and culture and also in your everyday life. We go highbrow. We go lowbrow. We go everything in between. Food culture to meme culture. Charlie XCX to Toni Morrison.
41:04K-pop to the Kennedys. From horror movies to heated rivalry. From the Oscars to the Met Gala. The Golden Bachelor to Wuthering Heights. Great Expectations to Desperate Housewives. That's what we're talking about over here. We're having fun. It's Critics at Large from The New Yorker. Every Thursday, wherever you get your podcasts.
41:31What artists are you looking to for inspiration in terms of performances? And who, when you see other people on tour, do you think, oh, that's the kind of thing I want to do? Right now, I'm very, I kind of change a lot, like the artists that I get connected with through my own mood. so these days I've been listening to Oklu a lot I don't know if you know she's a singer she's amazing what's her name? Oklu Oklu ok she has it's crazy you have to listen to her it's kind of she creates like ambient like a crazy environment with her music it's amazing and it's kind of I've been I've been in a more deep inside like me I don't know this day not this day like lately the latest months.
42:20I'm being more like an alternative indie music. So it's kind of, I don't know, a different world. People, when they think about Karol G, they think about colorful, extra things. But right now, I'm inside, I kind of, in a blue world. So I listen to artists. Your blue period. Yeah, in my blue period. So I kind of, I'm listening to artists that gives me that feeling very in the room, like just watching the rooftop. And I've been getting a lot of info from that. But as I said, with this tour, I really were looking to the showgirls, Latina showgirls back, back, back then. And they have been like my biggest inspiration right now for what I'm doing with this tour.
43:12And then can we talk about the creative vision behind the building a world inside a stadium. Is it an elaborate set? It's an elaborated set. Yeah, it's actually a very ambitious set to travel with, especially in Latin America. Interesting. In Latin America, that's why, like, many big artists, they just go to, like, for example, they go to Brazil, they go to Argentina, they go to Mexico, but they don't really go to Peru, Guatemala, Panama, Colombia. And are you going all those places? All those places. Yeah, for me, it's like my Latina community, they were my first supporters. So for me to keep bringing my show to all those places is super important.
43:56But this stage is kind of really ambitious to bring. What makes it harder to move? Is it just that their venues are more limiting or the travel itself? Like what makes it more difficult? It's a lot happening. It's very difficult because traveling, here you travel in trucks. We're bringing 100 trucks all over the U.S. But in Latin America, it's planes. You have to bring everything in planes and being ready every show. Like today, we are in one country, but the next day we are in another country. and then like flying that amount of things with a massive stage, sometimes we don't get like the risk of being on time with the production.
44:43It's really hard. Hand waste is a lot of hard work. And at the same time, it's crazy expensive, you know, because we bring the whole team from U.S. to travel with us. And of course, like when, and this is like kind of a more entrepreneur thing, But when you sell tickets in Latin America, it's in every money from every country. But you still keep doing things with U.S., like with dollars, you know? So it's really huge, expensive to bring. And sometimes you do a show that it depends on you. Like, you know, I want to do it because it's my people. But it's hard to put all together for a Latin America tour.
45:26Interesting. Which song are you most excited to perform? Oh, that's a good question. Wow. I think the one that has the name of the tour, Viajando por el Mundo, we have a crazy develop and show for that song, and it's very, it's a party. It's a crazy party. So I think that's the one that I'm most excited to play. But at the same time, I'm just excited to see what's going to be the reaction for every song, because my album was out in June last year and I've never done a concert. Like the only thing that I've done is Coachella, but I haven't performed my album with a tour or not even a concert, not even nothing.
46:08So I don't know which one is the one that people is going to get more crazy about when I perform in life. For me, it will be Papacito. Really? I'm excited. That's my favorite song of the whole album. But I have to say that that one felt so amazing to perform when I was at Coachella. It felt like dreamy. I don't know like I was just acting the whole intro of the song you know like can you sing a little for us again terrible voice I saw you there looking so good tonight come on Iggy like Macy get it to you papacito ay que rico tu like he get red like blush it yeah he's the color of a tomato right now yeah no because it's like every time I try to sing it's just so bad I also sing off key then I forget the lyrics even though I know the lyrics No, but you know what's a cool thing?
46:57I love going to karaoke. Love. Really? Yeah, I love going to karaoke. Where do you go? But I don't sing. You just listen? I just go and listen, and I see how people really enjoy a lot singing, even if they sing bad, but they're giving everything, and they do attitude, and they do dancing, and that's in sport right there. You know, I love to see those things, and I'm like, oh, she's killing it. You know, I need to flex. Apparently there was karaoke at Taylor Swift's wedding, but everyone was jealous because all of the singers were obviously the best ones. Literally, that's not this case. It must be like a challenge.
47:38Yeah, exactly. Doing it better. They were fighting. And then now let's talk about your hair because you have so many hair transformations. Are you going to color it or anything like that? Because what's your favorite hair that you've ever had? I love all of them and I miss all of them. the blue hair, the pink hair, the red hair all of them, like for me they literally explain like a moment in my life personally talking and right now I don't know, like before I was back into my brown I thought about putting it like orange but then I was like if I'm going to be my most Colombian version of myself, I have to go with the color of my hair, you know, I have highlights and everything but the brown is my hair.
48:25But I would love to be back into a color later then. I don't know. Maybe. What do you think? What should be? Pink is my favorite one. Pink, right? But I'm also just like, pink is my favorite color, so it's always. But pink was a moment. Pink was a thing in the tour, in the last tour. Yeah, it put like kind of a print to that tour. Yeah, I miss it. Sometimes I wake up feeling like I want to get back into the red. Sometimes I wake up feeling that I want to get back to the blue. And sometimes like, But it happens the most with the pink. Wow. It would match your shirt. Yeah, it would match my shirt.
48:59Oh, my gosh. I laughed so hard. In a recent interview, you were talking about how much you love to do pranks. Oh, yeah. Literally. I'm all the time with my people, like, yeah, doing pranks. What's the most recent prank you played? Actually, we've been this, like, kind of extending the, I'm not doing the tour to the rest of the team. so I went when we it got like a little like stressful moments when we were at rehearsal I was like you know what like I'm deciding I'm not doing this anymore like this is too much this is not like it doesn't work like this kind of stress and I was doing the prank of not going on tour like to everyone when I could yeah but and didn't you also say you were going to go on Love Island instead?
49:45no no that one actually it was crazy because I called my my best friend to do that prank and I didn't like I was this off that I didn't know what Love Island was so when I was in the interview and he and he and the like the guy with the pranks he was like what about if you call someone and you said that you're going to Love Island and I was like what is Love Island and I got super stressed because my brain was like I don't know what is Love Island I don't know what is Love Island I don't know but I know who's gonna know and I called my best friend and he was like you know it's kind of La Casa de los Famosos.
50:19You know, La Casa de los Famosos is a really, it's a TV show. It's a reality TV show. Okay. I'm trying to think of the English version. But it's basically they're all, these celebrities are trapped in a house. And you're watching them 24-7. Do you watch any reality shows? No. No. Telenovelas is another thing. Like, novelas is, yeah, I grew up like watching all the telenovelas. All of them. And most of them were Mexican. That's why I feel like I have this big connection with Mexico. Like, the telenovelas are another type of drama. That's drama right there. If it's past 8 p.m., I can't call my mom because she's just watching.
51:00Yeah, she's just like, don't disturb me. And it's crazy because now there's these Korean novelas that moms love too. It's crazy, but in Colombia, it's getting like super famous that moms are watching Korean telenovelas. Interesting. They're very into them. And I'm like, that's interesting. They love. Crazy. K-pop drama. K-pop drama. Wow. Interesting. Well, speaking of which, you were in that show, was it Griselda? Griselda, yes. And you said in your Vogue Mexico cover story you want to be acting more. What would be the dream role? Being the villain. Being the villain? Yeah. Oh, I love that. Being the villain would be amazing to see myself in that type of darkness character.
51:48It's always been like a dream. Like, I would love to have, like, the villain role in a movie, but really the bad one, the bad girl in the movie. Who's your favorite villain? Okay, that's a good question. I'm going to start with the villains at telenovelas. They are like, they go hard with the damage that they create to people. I want to know if you would ever perform at your own wedding. Because I keep thinking about Taylor Swift performing at her wedding. What would be your— Do you think she's performing at her wedding? Yes, that's what people say. Oh, they say that she did. Yeah. If I get drunk, maybe.
52:25But you wouldn't plan it. Yeah, I wouldn't—no, I wouldn't plan that I would perform at my wedding. But maybe if I get drunk, I'm just going to go with a mic, and I want to start singing my songs in the bar, literally in the—yeah. Who would be your dream performer? your wedding oh uh maybe i would say that uh if i go to the romantic cute childhood memory i always dream about having justin bieber performing in uh one of my birthdays or something wow so it can be kind of a cute thing to have like him just performing in in my wedding or i will go really crazy with an amount of musicians and a lot of people on stage that would be like a crazy party and I think I would love to have that people from Nigeria because I dream like my wedding being in a in in a seaside like in a beach and I think I always dream about like having this island Viby party so I would love to have like I find Nigerians really like people that party and they sing amazing so I would love to have so very tropicoqueta very very much yeah like what would be your wedding dream like what it will be like now I'm interesting what's your wedding dream I don't want to get married so I have no dream at all about getting married wow there's just if you love someone you love someone you don't need a party or a piece of paper, you know?
54:02No, I'm kind of, like, I always dream about, like, getting married, and it was, like, a really important, huge thing you have to do. Even if you're Latino, it's kind of traditionally that you grew up, like, you have to, you have to. But now I'm kind of taking a chill. Like, if it happens, it's okay. But if it doesn't happen, like... You're single right now? I'm single right now. What's your dream first date? Like, what do you like to have as a first date with someone? Of going, like, at night just for a walk in the street and eat all the fast food we find in the row. Like, literally. What's your favorite fast food?
54:38Maybe hot dogs, fries, and, yeah, hamburgers. I used to be a really big fan of pizza, but I think I ate that much of pizza that now I don't like it that much anymore. But I'm very fan of hot dogs. I think they're my first. I love hot dogs. Yeah, they have my first place in the list. So you're going to have to wait probably on to after the tour to go on a date because you right now can't eat this type of food. No, but wait. When you are on tour and you start like traveling this much and doing the tour every single day, you start like needing it. Specific things that help like you start like losing weight so fast.
55:16I'm sure. No, it's crazy. It's kind of every two weeks they have to do an adjustment to the wardrobe. Wow. Because it's three hours every day. Yeah. And, yeah, for the body, it's hard. So my last tour when we were in Europe, in the part of Europe that it was like our last leg of tour, I was giving myself those kind of details, eating a little more hamburgers and hot dogs. Yeah, but I have to wait for Europe again. You know who's going to be next year, so let's wait. Is it easier to date someone who's also in the public eye or a civilian? Because I feel like you've had some high-profile relationships.
55:57Is that easier to navigate or harder sometimes? I think more than say that if it is easier or not is where I can find people right now. You know, like my latest relationship, it's because I was on the road and I was like doing a song and I met someone. Yeah. Or being in tour and I brought someone that I was opening the tour and I could met him on the road. So I think that's why I ended up being... Yeah, but I would love to find, like, literally, I would love to find a civilian person that I can... Yeah, I don't know. It would be like a different experience for me right now. Yeah. But you're definitely like a person to person.
56:37Like Chloe mentioned, you're not like on a dating app. Or like you wouldn't... Oh, no. Have you ever tried a dating app? No, I haven't. Should I? Maybe. Let's work on your profile. Should I? Like, that would be, could you imagine? No, like. I would just be like, wait, this is not real. Wait a second. No, but maybe, you know. Imagine if I find someone that is the love, maybe the love of my life is waiting for me in and out. Yeah. Yeah, I have to try. One way to find out. I was very inspired by how you spoke to the audience at Coachella and really addressed political issues in your performance. And I'm curious, and Iggy can speak to this too, what you feel one's responsibility is as an artist to speak up for your community, to speak out against things, whether you've been told not to do so in the past and have gone against that.
57:32I think it's literally part of my responsibility right now in the moment where I might and my position to speak for them. Yeah. But also to me about you, like being at Coachella, being like the first Latina to headline it, I feel like you don't really need to say sometimes those words because it's just so empowering. Your presence is making that statement. Yeah, and then also like the show that you had. Like I was so proud when you showcased mariachi music. Like I felt included in the whole entire show. It was, that was beautiful. For me to create that show was super special. And I have to say that I felt very heavy the responsibility of being the first Latina women to headline Coachella after 27 years that the festival has been created.
58:25And my idea was to celebrate my culture, you know, and I think that's the biggest statement that I could have done there. And it was so beautiful, like, later then when I watched the videos of people in TikTok or whatever, people from all over the places, not Latinos, saying, like, recording us all together, singing at mariachi or dancing to salsa or dancing to a merengue and saying, like, I don't know, but they celebrate where they come from and they celebrate that they're all together and I want to be part of that. so that was beautiful to me for me to watch you know that was my purpose and I think I got a beautiful yeah I did something special in my heart yeah the second they started I started crying my partner was just like what are you crying about music and I was like you do not get it you will not get it at all I was just like just let me be let me be exactly are you coming on tour of course I'm gonna try yeah no you have to come it's gonna be yeah we're gonna feel that way so you were telling me You're going to have a mariachi band?
59:26Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. And I think more than that, we have very special moments in the show. I would love you to come. I would love to come. I've been listening to Carol G all week. Really? It's been so fun. I love that. I love that. Oh, my God. I love that. I love that. I want to hear about the Concora Foundation. Ah, Concora. Concora means with heart, right? Yeah, with heart. When did you start that, and what is your goals with it? We have like, we've been more than five years already with it. Of course, like the first, at the first place, it was our little movement. But right now it became a huge, powerful thing.
1:00:07And I think Concorda makes me feel that my success is not that empty. Sometimes the success can make you feel that it's something that is not really going really good. But for me to have the opportunity to expand my blessings to other people is really important. And also, like my own testimony in life and how hard it was for me to get into a point being a woman and all the things that I had to go through that I could never explain how hard it was. And I can literally say, if I look at you or if I look at any woman in a big, huge position, how hard was for her to be there? For me, that was enough reason to create a foundation that works for women's rights in all the ways.
1:00:56So we work with women that are, like, in prison. We work with women that have been in situations of vulnerability in all the ways, violations, like domestic violence. And actually, women, head of families, they did a lack of opportunities, and they needed to just pull together and all the family to go through things. So we've been building schools. We've been giving becas and study for women. Actually, here we've been working a lot with the situation of Latinos with, like, legal things for women that their, like, husbands, they were taken to their countries and they needed to go out of the country with dignity and everything.
1:01:41So we have an apartment in the foundation and we take care about them. We take care about women that come here as an immigrant and they need opportunities. So we've been in different. Every day it grows more. It grows more. Like we have a lot of people supporting us and it's so beautiful to see how we can go with this. Amazing. Well, Carol, thank you so much for being here. It's such a treat for us. And I am so grateful that you made time for us in the middle of your intense tour prep. Thank you to you, Chloe. Thank you so much. And thank you, Ignacio. Like always a pleasure. And yeah, let's see what is next for all of us.
1:02:20Thank you so much. That's it for the run through. See you next week.

When Karol G walked into the Vogue studio last week, she was just days out from the start of Viajando por el Mundo Tropitour, her upcoming stadium tour which will take her across the U.S., Latin America, and Europe through summer 2027. On this week's episode of The Run-Through, the Grammy winner and first Latina to headline Coachella told Chloe Malle and guest host Ignacio Murillo, Vogue’s Global Talent Casting Director, that she built the show around the idea of the Latina showgirl. She’s been working since October with a full-time trainer, chef, and recovery specialist on a diet that's less about restriction than precision, with plenty of carbs, minimal processed sugar, and six to eight supplements a meal. With six wardrobe changes and a stage built to span an entire stadium, her costume team adjusts her wardrobe roughly every two weeks as her body changes on the road; her biggest source of anxiety, she said, isn't the choreography but whether the audience's energy matches what she's built.
Karol G is bringing the ambitious production to countries many stadium tours skip, including Peru, Guatemala, and Panama, even though moving the show by plane across Latin America (versus truck in the U.S.) makes logistics and costs far harder, a tradeoff she considers worth it.
“For me, my Latina community, they were my first supporters,” Karol said. So for me to keep bringing my show to all those places is super important.”
Her fashion, developed over seven years with stylist Brett Alan Nelson, has shifted from simply chasing cool looks toward using style as a vehicle for cultural identity, with this tour's six segments including Etro, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, and Chrome Hearts. She also opened up about family, crediting her musician father as her closest creative sounding board.
Elsewhere in the conversation, Karol G confirmed she's done getting tattoos (her three honor Selena, Rihanna, and herself), said she's single and has never used a dating app, and named hot dogs and fries as her ideal first-date food. Viajando por el Mundo Tropitour kicks off July 24 in Chicago.
