In short

Reaction to Artisan’s April 1 trailer starring Jordan Belfort, pitching autonomous AI BDRs/SDRs (Ava 2.0) that supposedly replace human sales teams by booking appointments via automated outreach.

Guest backgrounds

Zach Thompson and Jack Frimston (mentioned as sales/outreach operators); Jordan Belfort is the ad’s featured figure (Wolf of Wall Street, known for cold calling).

Key claims

The trailer is “brilliant marketing” but misleading/omits what the AI actually does; it mainly sends lots of emails. Cold calling/discovery and voice qualification can’t yet be fully replicated. AI is “artificial amplification,” not new intelligence; trust and qualification still require humans.

Notable examples

“1,400 qualified leads, 420 buying intent, 190 meetings booked”; “Ava beats human BDRs in six hours,” then “you’re fired” for sending no emails; discussion of tools like Prospio.io and Nooks.ai.

0:00Oh my God. Have you heard the news? You've won the award. Biggest twat of the year. No. Have you heard the news about Jordan Belfort? He's not won it either. You and him are the same size. I think I'm taller than him by a couple of inches. But hey, what's a couple of inches got to do with it? Who's counting? Exactly. Jordan Belfort. Do you know the news? Do you know the news about Jordan Belfort? No. Wolf of Wall Street. Wolf of Wall Street. Tell me about him. You just launch with the company a new product. And in this episode, we're going to expose him. We're going to expose him for what he is.

0:34But for anyone that's just getting into it straight away, I think that we should watch the new trailer. So there's a company called Artisan, which are an AI company. And they do AI BDRs and SDRs and stuff like that, which means you could replace your whole sales team with AI. Not Claude. Don't worry about Claude. You could replace your whole sales team. And he is now the face of it. It was actually released on the 1st of April. I thought it was an April Fool's. But let's have a little watch and let's react. Let's watch it. I mean, it's going to be a Marksons wet dream, isn't it? How's the first week of EV of sales going, John?

1:13I hear they're already calling you the wolf of Silicon Valley. Well, we're not wrong. Who is this Ava that's on the top of the leaderboard? That's actually her right there. That's Ava? Yeah, that's Ava 2.0. She got released today and she's the first autonomous AI BDR. Jordan, I think she might be able to outsell the human team. Let's see it. Okay, Ava. You against the human team. Most appointments booked by the end of today. You're on, cupcake. All right, BDRs. There is an ally in this room and she has booked more appointments than all of you combined. But I'm not about to get destroyed by an AI.

1:48Now, take out that laptop and start emailing. All right.

2:01The Wolf of Wall Street just emailed me. I'll take the media. That's what I'm talking about. Just book the media, all right? Time to celebrate, everyone. Don't even think about it. Damn. Six hours later. Our AI is beating our entire human BDR team. None of my portfolio companies have real humans anymore. She'll tell me. See if it's real. It's very real. Let's check it out. You showed me these appointments are all real, and you said appointments for all the closers. Deal? Take a look. 1 ,400 qualified leads, 420 with active buying intent, and 190 meetings booked. Everybody listen up. She won. But good news.

2:43We have too many meetings, so you're all AEs now. Great work. Except you. You're fired. You didn't even send one email. I'm not f***ing leaving. Seriously? Well, someone call security. Jordan, you cannot just promote 30 BDRs to AEs. This is costing us$2 million a year. KTAR is always trying to find a reason to blame me. Humans look complicated. Yeah, I've been saying this for years.

3:19Oh, Kai. I mean, that felt like I was watching a film. What is, I mean, brilliant piece of marketing. I was hooked. Hooked, lined, and sinkered. I was. I was hooked as well. There is a flaw. I mean, there's several flaws. But the smart read-between-the-lines thing they were doing, the thing they were doing throughout it was not really mentioning what it actually does. And to your point that you often make, leads are not all created equally. And the guy at the end, he's like, you're fired, you didn't even send one email. So here's what that AI does, just sends lots of emails. In which case, we're all right.

4:06Litham St. Antis got enough Italian restaurants, you know what I'm saying? Zach Thompson, do you ever get sick of calling kebab houses and nanas when you're trying to speak to qualified decision makers? I do. Well, I think I might have found the solution. 98 % correct qualified data, which means when you're cold calling, you're always going to be speaking to the right person. Do you know what the solution is? It can't be Prospio, can it? Prospio. Let me spell it for you. P-R-O-S-P-E-O dot I-O. Wow. If you're looking for great qualified data, then you know what the solution is. Prospio.io. Prospio.io.

4:47I think Jordan Jordan Belfort's whole thing is he is renowned for cold calling isn't he whether you think the film is obviously brilliant he's made a career out of it if you get into the weeds of it a lot of people will say he's just a scam artist that did very very well but his whole thing is cold calling he is known to pick up the phone and start dialing I don't know how much they must have paid him for that advert but it's emailing it's another emailing automation tool so i i get that you could probably like just say who who's my icp it's saying that it can replace i saw a comment saying it can replace zoom it can replace cognizant it can replace all of these things okay you've got data software and then you say are you what you're going to write all the personalization for me yeah and then you're going to send a load of emails we know that sending a load of emails one doesn't doesn't just automatically generate a load of appointment or revenue and two like what that doesn't mean that it replaces ai like it doesn't replace your your wholesale team just because you can do that because if you have an str team or a bdr team if you have a good team they're not just sat there sending emails all day anyway hopefully do you know what's mad right the amount of calls i have like discovery calls where people are concerned about setting fire to their brand with like us making some cold calls you know we're making maybe 150 300 calls a day maybe having 50 60 combos something like that right so 50 60 combos and they're like i'm worried about you setting fire to my brand but those same businesses would put something like that in place and send a million emails in two weeks in hopes that you know point point something percent of those converts into something but the other people who didn't convert instead of unsubscribe and stuff they're going to be the ones who go oh you're that annoying business that emails me to death and i just don't get how people are concerned about one thing and not concerned about the other it also just to to stress another point let's say that has the ability to do the emailing part right or the manual outreach part email linkedin messages and stuff like that but but the voice part probably isn't isn't there yet and certainly wouldn't be able to qualify in the way that a human would.

7:09Well, actually, another complaint that we get is, oh, my sales team hide behind emails all day and LinkedIn all day. So you could position that as a way to get your SDRs actually on the phone, having human conversation. I don't get the whole thing of like, oh, fear, like you can get rid of this whole part of your sales team and have this in place instead. Like, why not start with you can empower them to do more further longer. I don't get the immediate jump to the finish line like you've got to sack everyone and just have this robot in place. They were very clever, weren't they, with the marketing thing of not everyone's getting sacked.

7:47Actually, we're so busy. We're making so much money. No one's getting sacked because that wouldn't make a good advert. I mean, it might make a brilliant advert from a marketing standpoint. It would probably piss people off. It might get more comments. I mean, it's going to get loads and loads of attraction anyway just because Jordan Belfort's in it but if the thing is like we want people to use it they don't want it to be a position of like oh imagine if i could like promote everyone because i've got so much new business coming through the door people are only as good as the tools they use as well so i could hire this in now for for loads of different companies and they don't actually know like what good sales is they could be seeing something and go oh that message looks good but like you say like you could send emails out to your total addressable market in the click of a button the thing that i've been seeing loads and loads and i know that you've seen it as well because we basically have the same algorithm at this point in our lives but it's it's a case of like uh clawed clawed clawed clawed you can just automate everything all these massive like ai companies are hiring sales people they're not like they're not moving away from it they are like reaching out they're having conversation they're trying to bring this human bit in because ai can do all of the leg work it can do all of the research it can do all of that so that when you're having these conversations like we use the nooks prospecting tool when you're having these conversations it makes your life easier you you don't really want to like lock a laptop in a room press a button and then it just does something because there is that fear that it could all go wrong and just absolutely ruin your your brand yeah i i totally agree i think there's that thing of like am i in safe hands as well with people your buyers aren't idiots are they so if you're doing like actual proper qualification and you're dealing with pretty tender stuff you know people being open about problems and frustrations that having with their business do they want something that's trained in probably what feels like customer service you know like that's pretty much like great next question amazing thank you for answering next question there's no way they're at a point where they're going god well and how long has that been going on for noticing the little pause and the bit that you sped up and the bit you were avoiding like there's no way that it's able to understand the human nuance or even what that nuance means and i saw a thing um on modern wisdom where one of the guests was saying a way to think about ai in business is ai is artificial amplification so you're not bringing new intelligence into your business what you're probably doing is taking what you've got and amplifying it as far as possible to as many eyes as possible but if what you're doing is already not rooted in something good you're probably amplifying something that has a very short shelf life.

10:37You always, I've stolen this from you, so you might like this next bit, but you always talk about like how businesses have a unique selling point. And actually the way that you outreach is your new unique selling point. So we've got a recruitment client at the moment. And when they called them, one of the things they were moaning about was they can't trust their current recruiters. Now, how do you build trust? You can't just like send an email and say, trust me you build trust over over time but like by by basically not fucking up and dropping the glass ball like oh i listened i was there on time like it's all the the mini things that build into the trust and like if you're just firing emails that is that and you know what the the that that advert that we've just watched i think there are probably industries or services where i'd say yeah do something like that rather than using an outsource or even hiring a salesperson because it's probably not fair to get a salesperson to ring 200 people a day just to have like no chance like if you think about like uh you're only moving office like i i've got this office provider you're moving office the chance of unless your data is bang on and you know it's really shit hot you're going to be calling people at the the wrong time which is so so rejection heavy you're going going to get rejected anyway even if it's something good yeah and i know from like stuff and like from knowing a few different businesses there are these like outreach agencies linkedin and email and actually the most of their deals come from picking up the phone so like even though that is their surface their service and their offering the key thing that they do for people they charge money the only way that they win deals is by picking up the phone and having conversations because like you say, it's your unique selling point.

12:26Oh God, I'm so tired. I've just been talking to qualified prospects all day without any wait time. How have you been doing it? Because I've been cold calling people on my mobile and I reckon I've spoke to one person. No, no, no. Stop that right now and use Nooks.ai. Why? What does Nooks do? It finds me the right people to call and it calls them and it connects with them over and over and over again. So you're saying it's Nooks.ai and I can just be speaking to qualified decision makers all the time. No other better connection, right? Wow, Nookster.ai. But what you could be doing with that kind of technology is having it sat in the background as almost like a demand checker, if you will.

13:07So all the things like website traffic, people who view your LinkedIn profile, people who interact with your posts, people who newly subscribe to newsletters, like all the things that you should have got in your background as a good demand attention engine for your business, you can have this technology sat in the background double checking like oh who's a good fit out of people who are interacting what are they doing what is anything newsworthy doing all that background research that people spend a lot of time doing and then just top of the list like jack reach out to this guy this guy's just done these things and interacted with this point and bang do you want do you want to get in touch with them straight away and the person who picks up the phone to that person will be the one who wins not the person who goes okay next up write me a customized email and then personalize a LinkedIn message to them.

13:53The person who just stops it at that point and goes, they're probably right for us and reaches out to them, we'll win. So use that technology in the right way. You see it all the time, these stories on LinkedIn of like, oh, I put that I was in the market for something, 30 people sent me an email, one person called me. Guess who got the business? I saw something the other day as well. I think Tim Ferriss had shared someone that come on their podcast and they said something like this is the email framework that always works the first sentence build trust tell them about yourself build that reputation tell them what you've done i just think like who like are these tools i don't know because i've not seen artisan but is it bait you like that little pun is it bait in psychology or is it actually somebody that's handing out bad sales advice that is just going to like ruin their reputation like what what is it coded on because as we know not all algorithms are created equally um so are you gonna be buying artisan anytime soon from jordan belfort zach or what's your thoughts i'll buy some artisan products off him and now that he's not on the marching powder i might be tempted to say go on then i'll have it i'll have a little scone off you jordan but i won't be buying that and And I'm sure people are somewhat skeptical of investing in the things that Jordan Belfort is backing, given his track record.

15:23Big up, Jordan Belfort. Do we have a task for this week's episode? Yeah, the task for this week's episode, I'm going to put£500 on the line for the first two people who get this done. I want you to post on LinkedIn your favorite picture of Jack Frimston and say, this is the guy that I'm backing for president of America, 2027 screenshot that send it over to me. First two people who get there, 500 pound each 500 pounds. There you go. Look forward to seeing it. Thank you, Zach Thompson. Thank you, Jack Frimston.

16:07Thank you.

From the publisher

In this episode, we break down Jordan Belfort's latest venture: a new AI sales tool that claims to replace entire BDR teams.

We dissect the marketing campaign, the bold claims, and what this actually means for salespeople. We discuss why automation tools that just send thousands of emails miss the point entirely, how buyers can spot AI outreach from a mile away, and why the human element in sales is more valuable than ever.

We dive into the difference between amplification and intelligence, why trust can't be automated, and how the best sales teams are using AI to enhance their work rather than replace it. We also explore why cold calling still wins over mass emailing, the dangers of burning your brand with volume based outreach, and what actually separates good salespeople from bad ones in an AI driven world.

If you're wondering whether AI will replace your sales team, worried about new automation tools flooding the market, or trying to figure out how to use technology without losing the human touch, this episode will give you clarity.
