In short
A live “cold calling battle” between UK and USA styles, using Nooks and an adaptive dialer, where Jack Frimson and Zach Thompson take turns calling prospects, trying different openers/accent requests, and reacting to real-time objections (capacity, “not interested,” “too busy,” “send email,” etc.).
Guest backgrounds
No external guests. The “guests” are the live call recipients: Abdullah (marketing-business contact who says he’s not interested and asks to be removed), Jennifer (marketing/CEO-type who says they’re at capacity), Steven (busy, says they don’t need meetings), Duncan (capacity; avoids new work), Amin (in a meeting; declines), Karam (declines), Stuart (busy; property expansion), Colin (says they already have a sales team), Mark (marketing agency owner; declines), plus multiple others including Sean (dentist/doctor who says they don’t do cold outreach and questions risk/pricing).
Key claims
Cold calling effectiveness depends on timing, opener, and fit; many prospects shut down quickly, but some will engage if handled professionally and with clear pricing/risk.
Notable examples
Abdullah politely declines; Jennifer refuses due to capacity; Steven says they sell online and rarely meet; Sean (doctor) challenges the model, then agrees to a possible future call after discussing retainer risk and how outreach would work.

Transcript
Automatic transcript. May contain errors.0:00Don't you? I think I actually just heard something break in my head when I did that. Yeah, it broke in my ears as well. Yeah, I'm going to break my foot off in your ass. You know when Americans say that? You call this number again, I'm going to break this goddamn foot off in your ass. Are we going to be, I hope that we get some of that from the Americans today. Are you dialing an American list? Because it's live cult calling, Zach Thompson. No, I'm not. But I have some requests actually for the audience to make this more interesting. Are you ready? Yeah. I'm prepared to do it in any accent that people want at home.
0:34They can request an accent, but also I think they can request an opener. Wow. Hey, you hit this opener. It could be one you've tried before. It could be one you've never tried. It could be one you always try. I'm going to put it in the comments. I'm going to do it. And Jack's going to do it. Or you can put an accent. And it's pretty funny if you get Jack to the accent, because Jack can't do any accents and he does have a drama degree. Try me. Tell me any accent and I'll do it. Do an or deck. There we go. That's a nice easy one for you. You can choose. Why, I'll be honest with you, pet. It is a sales call.
1:11You can hang up or let me have 30 seconds. Completely up to you. Yes, can't eat me if you want to. It was bad, wasn't it? Right. I think my list is San Francisco. Oh, you're going American. Yeah, I'm going for an American list. and because we did it last time and I thought it'd be it was fun I like talking to the Americans it's eight o 'clock so I actually think it might answer one of those questions is it good to cold call at eight o 'clock in the morning should I go first because you don't look like you're ready to make a single dial it's not about my readiness anymore it's about what if the people will notice if they've been on these before with us is a lot of these start with technical difficulties your can resume it out the whole first 10 minutes things that work you're doing the pitch really slowly i think people just need to see some some good stuff from you okay right i don't have i don't actually have uh a script up but um do i need a script oh someone's putting here can you try and sell with a russian accent which obviously if you're ringing americans could go down really well so yeah give that go mate yeah i'm not going to be doing that i've not been to russia before I must go do you like that?
2:30okay I'm trying to find a script I can't find a script so I'm just going to wing it okay, you ready for it? no didn't think so I'm not going to try with the Russian accent I'm just going to get into the game right, here we go yeah, I bet you have I bet you have actually here we go, here's the first live call stop trying to procrastinate mate let me get nooks open right so man you know you haven't got nooks can you hear that yeah he's in guys all right here we go okay in the meantime i am gonna try and find we're gonna see if eight o 'clock works for oh here we go i've got a script now what do you need to strip for well some i just like having the word for word that i can read you can't read i can read you used to work at read the uk's and one job board uk's and one job board i did right okay we're doing adaptive dialing at the moment so they're coming through thick and fast we're dialing a few so talk me through your list today for anyone that's listening what what they're going to expect an old list that you did for me i have no idea who's in it right you did it on one of the old all the cold calling shows and i i think we don't recycle data enough i i think that's true that's why i've used this list a couple of times before it's it connected it's san francisco so let's let's see i'm ringing san francisco eight o 'clock i'm ringing san francisco i've got no trousers on you think this is going to be painful then if i'm dialing San Francisco at 8 o 'clock, no one's going to be answering.
4:12It's probably not. You've definitely had better ideas for TV. What's the most watchable thing I can do? The Jeopardy's there. No, no, mate, the Jeopardy's there. I'll give you that. Just think about San Francisco. Commute. Driving. Hills. Tech startups. They're going to be driving. Working from home. Taking my Labrador up for work. Summer holidays. Yeah, well, mate, listen. we're dialing and nothing's happening right now so if you want to if you want to dial at the same time you can i would never do that to a man i'd never die at the same time as another man i don't believe in that okay you know what i might should dial on his own right i'm just gonna pause this i'm just gonna cancel that i've got adaptive on but i'm actually just gonna turn adaptive off i'm just gonna it means i'm gonna give it a bit more horsepower can you still wear that So for people listening at home, we're using NUX today, right?
5:12NUX. You mentioned adaptive dialer there. What's an adaptive dialer? I mean, I'll probably butcher it, but the number of lines scales up and down based on the pickup probability. So it increases the call volume while minimalizing cancel calls. At the moment, I'm just going to hell for leather. Here's five dials. Bang, bang, bang. We need to get connected. Five dials at once. The first person who answers gets put through to Jack Frimston. JD for him. You reckon someone's going to bollock me? Good morning. That's not Abdullah, is it? Tell me. Good morning. Have I come through to Abdullah? That's not Abdullah?
5:53Abdullah. It is Abdullah. Tell me. Sorry, have I come... Have I landed with Abdullah? Yeah, you have. Can you hear me? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Abdullah, we've never spoken before. Can I fly through why I've chosen to call you in 30 seconds? And if it's not relevant, we can leave it there. Okay, tell me. Okay, amazing. So we typically get invited in by ambitious marketing businesses who, if they're honest, might be having some frustrations when it comes to the new business and growth side of things. So that might be a quantity and you want to bring in a few more prospects because the pipeline's looking a little bit bleak moving forward.
6:44It could be quality and you want to focus on bringing in more of the right clients in your business because you find yourself trapped in those never ending deal cycles. Or lastly, it's neither of those and you're trying to break into a new area or sector, but you're just not entirely sure how to get started with that. I have a feeling you're probably going to tell me, Abdullah, that you don't recognize any of those problems and you couldn't possibly take on another client. For what? You run a marketing business, I'm right, yeah? No, I'm not a marketing business. No, you don't own a marketing business.
7:22No, I'm not. You used to run a marketing business. No, I have no interest. You've never run a marketing business in your life? No, never. Okay. What kind of business do you run? I don't run any business. Okay. What are you up to these days then? How you got my number? I use a data provider. I can get you removed from our list. It feels like it's not fit right now, but thank you, Abdullah. Okay, bye-bye. Bye-bye. what i don't know what this the website digital marketing agency in pakistan for uae growth oh not even the right right not even the right good right glad that wasted my time on that uh i'm not interested that was good i was that was hard right come on i'd rather be bollocked rather than someone be like vaguely what do you want okay so not much in the comments around like what opener to be using or what accent to be using but a lot less let us know around the uh the opener let us know around the accent we're happy to do anything for your watching and observing pleasure i'm gonna do one more why is everyone saying try with a russian accent oh no that's the same russian good morning uh that's not jennifer is it yes this is jennifer Hello, good morning, Jennifer.
8:52It's Jack here from We Have a Meeting. We've never spoken before. Can I fly through in 30 seconds why I've chosen to call you? And if it's not relevant, I can leave you alone to get on with your day? Sure thing. If you can just hold one minute. I'm just in the middle of something. So if you can just hold one moment, please. Yeah, absolutely. I can hold.
9:29you want me to talk no okay i have about two minutes because i'm going into an 11 15 a.m meeting what can i help you with okay well i'll fly through it and then if you think it's not relevant or actually i can't help you i'll let you fly into that meeting jennifer but um i guess I typically get invited in by ambitious businesses and CEOs who, if they're honest, they might be having some frustrations when it comes to the new business and growth side of things. So it could be quantity. You want to bring in a few more prospects because the pipeline is looking a little bit bleak moving forward. It could be quality.
10:07So you want to focus on bringing in more of the right clients into your business. or last list? I'm going to stop you right there. We're completely at capacity. We can't even take on any more business, but I appreciate you reaching out. No way. Wow. Wow. Amazing. Could I ask you one last question before I let you go? Sure. Sure. So you're completely at capacity now. I guess when you think about the future, what would have to change for you to be in a position where you... Really, we're all good. So I really appreciate you reaching out, but we're good. Thank you so much. No worries. You enjoy the sunshine.
10:40Bye-bye. Thank you so much, Jennifer. Thanks. Bye.
10:46She did something quite cool. I obviously can't say, but like, she worked with some big deals. Have you ever heard of a bloke called Golden Globe?
10:58You heard of a bloke called Goldman Sachs? I thought you were going to say, but you were actually throwing me. I wasn't expecting that. There you go. That's called Humor. She was very lovely. She had a thing that I heard Louis 3 talk about before. It's like a professional niceness that we're not very good at in the UK. Like, I'll give it. She was nice, but she was like. Short, sharp. I'm not. Yeah, I'm not going to. I'm still, I can still come across as nice and be professional. And that's why she lives in Beverly Hills. And I think people that live in Beverly Hills. Beverly Hills. That's where I'm sucking.
11:29And what have you got wrong with you? Exactly. Right. I'm going to share your screen, mate. I've done two. They've not been good so far. but I'm going to add you to the stage and you are going to show us what you are capable of Mr Zach Thompson please do something let's do it make it entertaining starting the session here we go I've had no requests for a certain opener or anything ever
11:57I'm going to share this as well see if we can oh Jamie Evans has called you out straight away I mean that is a real life thing people have capacity and it can be full it can be
12:16okay
12:20let's show this we are live what what mode you on five wow parallel five guys oh that's not spencer is it who's calling it's zach calling i'll be very honest we don't know each other can i tell you very quickly why i've called and i'm in a meeting zach but thanks could you remove me from your list cheers yeah yeah wow he was really polite though as well yeah he was it was a polite no wasn't it so you know what you just said about like british people really struggle with that polite no
13:06wrong that whole that whole conception wrong now what i will do with him is i'll ring him back and say you were in a meeting he's probably never to talk to you again but here i am oh that's not steven is it it is yeah hello steven i'll be very honest it is actually a sales call so if that makes you want to have me track down and shot or let me have 30 seconds and then decide it's totally up to you well i couldn't be honest what's it to do with uh well can i fly through it if it's if it's not for you I'll never bother you again does that sound fair well yeah I can't answer that I don't know what to do with can I yeah fair enough so I normally get brought in by managing directors of ambitious businesses who are a bit frustrated on the new business side of things so there's perhaps a few no then I don't need I don't need that's not an issue I don't have an issue with that so I can take you time thank you new business can I ask you one last question before I let you go
13:57wow you're right man that was another polite now what are we learning today oh i don't think american denizer american denizer do you want to have one more go i'll have one more go your connection rate though hi tell me about that i mean it's high it's really high really hello that's not duncan is it it is yeah oh hello duncan i'll be very honest you might hate me for this but it's actually a sales call so I don't know if that makes you want to have me track down and shot or let me have 30 seconds before you decide it's totally up to you uh I'll give you 20. Okay fair enough um so I typically get brought in by ambitious business owners who are a little bit frustrated on the new business side of things so there's perhaps a feeling that there's not enough potential new business meetings in the diary and as a result the pipeline's perhaps looking a bit bleaker than they would like or they are meeting people it's just not the right types of people and they're kind of trapped in these never-ending deal cycles but I've got the feeling this might be the part where you tell me you can't possibly take on another new client and I need to go and bother someone else uh yeah pretty much we most of our sales come through online so um yeah we we don't do meetings generally oh wow okay so just just kind of one off online and then on to the next one yeah no we've got a lot of account customers but we tend to convert them from online customers into offline customers and then everything's just dealt with over the phone or via email.
15:28We very rarely go out and have meetings with people. Okay. Only if people request it. So it might be like, you know, three a month or something like that. We try and avoid it as much as possible. Oh, really? Which I know sounds, yeah, yeah, we just find it a bit of a waste of time. We can get through more work in the office. yeah if we're not chatting about stuff we don't need to really yeah probably not the response you're after but yeah that's how we work can i ask you one last question before i let you go so so if if someone could go out there and get you new account customers would it be a case of actually we're already full when it comes to those anyway uh we are pretty much i mean i've just i took on a business uh another business development manager about three months ago so he's still sort of finding his feet and whatever but that's kind of his job so um yeah i mean we're at capacity you know two weeks out of the month sort of thing um so yeah we're just looking for that bit more to get to the next next level so we can expand production but it's um yeah i'm not looking to implement anything else okay in the next three or four months realistically so you you you potentially have an area that you want to grow but you've brought in this business development function you want to kind of leave him to see if he can he can figure it out before bringing it really yeah okay that makes sense yeah okay um would would it be worth another conversation further down the line maybe i can I can ring you back and see how they've gone.
17:05So what sort of service is it you offer? I mean, it's basically that bit that you're talking about, but I would do it on your behalf. So that business development piece, I'd go and kick those doors down with those account customers for you. But obviously that might sound like hell based on some of the stuff that you've said so far. So do you make appointments? Is that it? It's appointments. And then it's also finding, obviously in this day and age with all the tools that we've got it's also going to be finding the people who have the problem that you solve as well so finding people who are kind of in the market for what you do and then engaging with them and whether it's having that first meeting with you or whatever your first touch point is sort of connecting those two dots really um okay but yeah as i say that that might that might sound like something that you you sound like you're in a relatively good position yeah yeah things things are pretty good we've got the yeah the next year or so mapped out um yeah some changes we want to make and stuff but yeah uh having meetings with customers yeah it might sound backward to you but yeah it's not something we're we're going to be interested in really okay okay um can i can i can i can i can ask one last thing and i promise i let you go of course yeah i don't suppose you know anyone maybe less fortunate than you who is in the business world but perhaps does have that problem and maybe that glutton for punishment where they do want to sit down with more people um did you do anyone right now um or a bully someone you really hate maybe i can go and bother them yeah you can bring my wife if you want
18:56um uh i i don't off the top of my head um but no uh yeah no it was uh it was good to talk to you yeah perhaps give me a ring in six months or a year or so maybe things will be different will do all right well look wish you yeah is that right yes yeah of course it is no problem at all good to speak to you take care thank you cheers
19:19wow i don't like you but you do do something special with your mouth don't you what do you mean by that that was right you took him from yeah he didn't have a problem but the phrase no stone unturned comes to mind you got him talking you got him laughing i'm sure if you added him on linkedin if you added him to your cult at some point in the future he'd be uh Yeah, yeah. Really good. Thanks, Mike. You want to have another go? Yeah. Mate, do I want to have another go? I want to show you what America's made of. Beverly Hills. Anyone in the comments got chickens? Really interested in getting chickens.
20:01Don't. Don't get them. Your little boy looks like he loves chickens. I know. You can't keep chickens in Manchester, can you? Is that a real thing? Yeah. good morning that's not Andrew is it hello yes hello hello good morning Andrew it's Jack here from we have a meeting I'll be so honest with you we've never spoken before can I fly through yeah I'm sorry please take us off your list yeah yeah definitely no no that's fine I guess can I ask you one last question before I let you go
20:40i really don't have time sorry no that's fair i guess can i can i tell you the reason for calling and then if it's not applicable i don't want any solicitation thank you no that's fair i'll take you off my list off your list thank you so much take care oh that was that was nasty what it mate is you what you said I've got real work to do yeah but mate this is fun this is absolutely mad obviously I can't tell you on what that guy appears is it real work you know when you go on one of those websites if I look at his LinkedIn it says stuff like this is previous jobs advocacy and mission driven champion at a company for seven months that's not real work And he was a contributor for 19 years.
21:32He's now a CEO. I've been a contributor for 34 years. And not being rude. But you know when... He's not being rude. He's not very good at it. Very good. All right, I'll give it. His profile picture looked like he had one of those fake glasses with a fake nose and moustache on. You know that? People say that about you. what do you mean by that so you've got a joke face mate all right i'm sick i'll show you a joke first good morning that's not mark is it this is mark hi hello oh sorry mark um my line car there uh good morning mark i'll be very honest with you we've never spoken before i guess can i fly through in 30 seconds why i've chosen to call you and if it's not relevant we can leave it there is that fair sure go ahead amazing um mark well i'm typically invited in by ambitious ceos and businesses who if they're honest with themselves they might be having a new having some frustrations when it comes to the new business and growth side of things so it could be quantity and you want to bring in a few more prospects because the pipeline's looking a little bit bleak moving forward or it could be quality and you want to focus on bringing in more of the right clients to your business or yeah yeah i mean i'll just stop you here we seem to be just fine in that department i don't think it's something that i would need any assistance on so you can take me off your call list thank you no worries can i can ask you one last question before i let you you're brave man that's that's brave why you just jumped on a on quite a tough list i think yeah yeah man because it's uk versus usa i'm going to show you what's possible yeah but you're not usa you're us hey that was that was a an embroidery and promotion company oh so you've not actually come with like some sort of muddle these sound like the busiest people in the world that you're in good they're just like marketing agencies yeah like marketing is still a function that's required in this world i won't have you call and just marketing agencies.
23:46Mark? That is so weird. I was just thinking about if there was a market agency and the owner was called Mark, that is just the best thing, isn't it? That was his name. His name was Mark. Did you not listen to anything I just said? He was called Mark and he owns a marketing agency. Yeah, because I said, that's not marketing. And he said, yeah, I already said that. Do you want to do another one? Do you want me to do another one? I'm dialing. Chill out over there. Tell people how close we are to each other at the minute emotionally we are getting on well better than physically you want us to go physically we're a room apart i'm actually in dorset right now does it does it so i think that this is proving we typically say 10 to 30 percent in the uk and 5 to 10 percent in the us you was call call call one after the other i'm probably a bit more like i'm call call call you're probably cold call and we're making cold calls yeah see you at the crossroads crossroads i made 60 calls so far today and how many connections have i had 60 calls four i ain't bad so that's about no it is less than 10 is it no what's going on i can't do maths you know i once got to the final stage of a job interview and they just asked me to do some quick mental arithmetics and I failed.
25:13That was it. Wow, cha, actually. Call him out. Say how it is. I got quite fine. I showed many of you. He went, can I show you something? And then he showed me an email that I'd sent him ages ago and I'd spell it all wrong. What did you spell wrong? Just like the whole, it was like a really rushed email. I just spelled the whole thing where it made no sense. That is the story of your life, isn't it? Oh, good morning. That's not Amin, is it? it is amine oh hi amine um i'll be so honest with you um we've never spoken before i guess can i fly through in 30 seconds why i've chosen to call you and if it's not relevant we can leave i'm in the middle of uh i'm in the middle of something uh right now no i can't really talk no that's fair can i fly through in 30 seconds see if it's even worth calling you back and if no no i don't think so thank you very much no worries yeah all right man that was tough i was You know what?
26:10In my head, my head was going, this is going to be a great clip afterwards because he's going to say yes and I'm going to show you that you can bypass that bit. And he absolutely didn't. Shut you down. Log, call and resume. Are you going to keep going until you get a combo? I just want to at least try and have one combo because you can't set that as the scene that all Americans are rude, can we? Good morning. That's not... Oh, I've just called you again. I'm really so sorry. I'm in
26:42right doesn't want a sales call oh you're an idiot but a nice one and one that I respect and like to be around I hate when I do that I don't hate anything you don't hate anything unless life's a gift yeah but what if I called him again now what if I pressed that button again where I called him back yeah it doesn't matter does it look we'll be all be dead one day as you always go on about but don't live by good morning that's not Karam is it that's it who is it good morning it's jack here um karam i'll be so honest with you we've never spoken before i guess can i fly through in 30 seconds why i've chosen to call and if it's not relevant we can leave it there is that fair i'm about to jump on a call in one minute one minute can i fly through to see if it's even worth calling you back in the future and if it's not then i can take you off my list forever is that fair sure amazing you tell me when the time's up but um we currently we typically get invited in by ambitious businesses who if they're honest they might be struggling when it comes to new business and growth side of things so that might be quantity and you want to bring in a few more prospects because pipeline might be looking bleak or could be quality and you want to focus on bringing in more of the right clients to your business because you find yourself trapped in those never-ending deal cycles I do have a feeling you're probably going to tell me you don't recognize any of those problems and you couldn't take on another client even if I brought one to you I'm about to jump with this call, but you're good, man.
28:08But thank you. I got to go. But thank you. Is it worth me calling you back? Is that what it sounds like? No, no, no. It's OK. It's OK. Thank you. I'm good, but not that good. Yes, exactly. Right. OK. Right. It is half past. He had a combo. Right. Whatever. Right. Go ahead. Do something. We had a combo. I would call him back. That would have to be a callback. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're good, dude. You're good, dude. You're not as good as me.
28:49What did the weekend mean when he said, I've got my eyes on you?
29:00Okay. You cooking? I haven't heard a beat, mate, so I don't know if you pressed the... Hello, is that Stuart? Hello. Yeah, he's speaking. Hello, Stuart. I'll be very honest, you might hate me for this. It's actually a sales call. I don't know if that makes you want to have me track down and shot, or let me have 30 seconds and decide. Yeah, who is it? It's Zach. Can I fly through while I'm calling? And if it's not for you, I won't bother you again. Yeah, go on. So I normally get brought in by owners of ambitious businesses who are a bit frustrated on the new business side of things. There's perhaps a feeling that they're not getting in front of enough potential new clients.
29:38So, you know, not enough meetings in the diary. Or they are meeting people, but it's the wrong types of people. And they're meeting people that are probably never going to become customers. But I've got the feeling, this might be the part where you tell me they're not problems and you couldn't take on another new client if you wanted to. Well, you're right on your last statement. we're that busy we can't cope oh really yeah we're looking at property expansion and everything it's crazy I mean we're very lucky we're an SME and we're fishing in a big pond with the big fish but we've got that much work at the moment we can't cope I mean we're at the point where turning work away it's crazy Wow, okay So property expansion and hiring new people All the good stuff Or can you keep the same team Yeah New property, more staff, more machinery Wow That's where we're looking at the moment Based on the workflow we've got And the potential future workflow That's out there waiting for us So it sounds like even if you move property And I ring you back There's potentially you've still got the same property It doesn't sound like slowing down anytime soon.
30:58I suppose it's a good problem to have, but yeah, possibly, yeah. Yeah, okay. All right, well, can I ask you one last thing before I let you go? Yeah, sure. I don't suppose you know anyone who's maybe less fortunate than you, who, you know, maybe in the business world, who could do with some help in that department?
31:17Off the top of my head, I don't know if you thank me for giving the names out, to be honest with you, mate. so I'll probably I think I'll hold on that one that's fair enough you nearly thought alright no worries at all I wish you continued success thanks for having the chat no problem bye
31:43you having some chatty blokes aren't you chatty blokes am I doing another one or do you want to go yeah do another one go and have a few more have a few more
31:57Have a few more.

32:08You're having a lot of conversations, aren't you? How many so far? Four? Three? Four? Wow. Hello, is that Colin? It is. Hello, Colin. You might hate me for this. It's actually a sales call. I don't know if that makes you want to have me track down and shot or let me have 30 seconds and then decide. It's totally up to you. I can help. Okay. Well, I'll fly through it. If it's not for you, I won't bother you again. So I'm normally brought in by ambitious managing directors who are a bit frustrated when it comes to the new business side of things. So there's perhaps a feeling that they're not getting in front of potential new clients enough or they are getting in front of people but it feels like they're the wrong types of people and they're probably people who are never going to buy if they're honest but I've got the feeling this might be the part where you tell me you're one of the fortunate ones and you can't take on another new client even if you want to and we are very fortunate we have a fantastic sales team um and they don't need any help oh really you're not hiring are you yeah no we're not so i can't even come and join and steal some desk space no sorry but it was a good start to the call that's the only reason i didn't put it down can i ask you one last thing before i let you go yeah i don't suppose you know anyone who's maybe less fortunate than you who perhaps could do with someone kicking down the doors for them i don't it depends what industry you're interested in whether it's every anything or in the printing sector but i don't really get involved in other companies um you know it's not really ethical for me to be doing that so i couldn't really say that makes sense that makes sense well i'll wish you uh continued success and thanks for taking the time all right thank you
33:57he liked your opener didn't he right move over mate let's have a let's let me show you how it's done have you got a different list up mate no
34:10no i couldn't do that too short notice ride or die that's what they say i'm gonna i'm gonna show you what i can make is i don't want to blame the list i blame me i'll make something happen with this american list i'm gonna i'm gonna speak to somebody now get ready this is gonna be the best cold call you've ever heard i'm gonna say it right now speak it into existence this is the best cold call that has ever ever happened you ready for it i make you still there hi zach are you still with us on the live cold calling show i mean i was just watching your son play with a chicken wow is that a euphemism well you'll have to watch what he starts doing it's quite unusual things to start trying to do to a chicken oh and then you can hear a girl what are you trying to do why is he so wet as well in all the photos do you think you might change the doctor because he's 37 oh yeah my son's older than me shut up no but you've got one of those deceiving face don't you i like about 21 you're people say you're quite disappointed when they meet you in person shut up yeah they don't meet you in person you don't leave do it in jamaican the next one he says no absolutely i can't do accents we'll leave that with you mr mr performer with your voices i can do a lot of voices i'll be voicing the oh good morning that's not paul is it yeah good morning paul um i'll be very honest with you it's jack from we have a meeting we've never spoken before i guess can i fly through in 30 seconds why i've chosen to call and if it's not relevant for you five seconds because i'm crazy busy five right i'll try and do it as quick as i can um well paul i'm typically invited in by busy ambitious business owners who if they're completely honest might be what was that about that was so rude that was that was weird wasn't it oh wow they didn't even give me the five princess diana as a jamaican restaurant owner right there's three guys in this restaurant all right let's keep going this one's gonna be the best cold call yeah how can i help you hello uh hi mahesh it's jack here from we have a meeting um i'll be very honest with you we haven't spoken before can i fly through in 30 seconds why i've chosen to call you this morning and if it's not relevant you can you send me email because i'm in the middle of the meeting so i'm heading to the meeting why don't you send me an email yeah definitely i can definitely send you an email now i guess just just brutal the list whatever list you say it's tough we keep going you gotta go till you get a combo till i get a combo but what do you do just give up i don't want to and i don't want to and i don't want to give myself like a really easy list good morning that's not jeremy is it yes this is jeremy's company oh hi i've i've not come through to jeremy directly though i thought the the have i not dialed his mobile number i can connect you to him oh amazing yeah can you tell him it's jack we have a meeting one moment thank you
37:58Now this, does the name work? Does the name match the cubes, as people say at home?
38:10You're through to Jeremy. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. You've got five seconds. your call has been forwarded to an automated voice messaging system seven eight no jack we're giving him the number three nine number
38:35that's jeremy that the song pearl jam uh made is actually about that make me panic like that
38:46I mean you might be able to find him but his last name was his name was Jerry the Berry I'm not joking his last name was Berry Jerry the Berry I'm being smashed today I don't know if that's a British thing but listen I'll take it alright let me try one more time that would have been amazing if they get Jerry the berry I would love you had one of my blueberries last night yeah I did tell everyone I'm but stuff I've got growing in my garden people love stuff like that you got a little courgeous well I don't know if I have anymore we'll see what's happened by the time we get home
39:33here we go good morning that's not Sean is it yes hi dr sean um i'll be very honest with you it's jack here from we have a meeting we've never spoken before can i fly through in 30 seconds why i've chosen to call and if it's not relevant we can leave it there is that fair go ahead amazing um so we're typically invited in by ambitious businesses and business owners if they're completely honest they might be struggling or frustrated when it comes to the new business and growth side of things. So it could be quantity and you want to bring in a few more prospects because the pipeline's looking a little bit bleak.
40:13Or it could be the quality and you want to focus on bringing in more of the right clients for your business. I have a feeling you're going to tell me you don't recognize any of those prospects. You've got people banging your door down and actually you couldn't take on another client. Yeah, that's the case. That's the case. Wow. Okay. Can I ask one question off the back of that? Sure. I guess when you think about new business and growth, what is the biggest challenge that you face?
40:47It's too much. Honestly. It's too much. I don't think I'm a good candidate for you. It's too much. I'm just stressed out. It's too much. What's too much? What do you mean? Sorry. What's too much? I have too much business. You have too much business? So if I said to you, listen, I've got a doctor. They want a website tomorrow. Can you take them? You're going to tell me, Jack, send them away. Tell them to keep their filthy money. I don't want it.
41:21No, I'll just double the price and take it. Oh, okay. What is your product? Okay, let's cut it. Joking aside. What's your product? It's a good question. There's probably a few different ways to answer that. Can I ask maybe a few more questions? Just answer the fastest one because I usually hang up on people. Okay. My son is in Europe. I saw the Europe number. I just thought, okay, maybe it's him. That's fair. What's your product? I guess if I said that I could be the product, so I do this on clients' behalf where we reach out on their behalf to find their dream clients and we book them appointments with you um but but you were saying obviously like you don't have that need so i'm trying to understand like if you if you even need anything like this when was the last time you noticed a new business problem
42:15i mean everybody has problems but well so that you're probably you have a call center basically depends some people automated i guess i mean yeah that's an old question yeah i've got two offices so something automated i guess no not automated not automated probably more human um you you were saying you were saying before sean that what you do is you'd you'd double the price so it feels like if i was saying it was like better quality customers customers that were willing to pay more yeah but listen again let's just talk about what you do how much you charge and then that's it you don't have to sell the idea to me i get it i've done the things like this i get it so you get clients how do you charge depends how much well like what do you think i don't want to hang up on you i don't mean i don't want to be rude so if you don't answer my questions if you want to just make it cycle.
43:16I get it. I get how it works. Let's do this. The value and all of that. No, no, no. I'm going to tell you the price. But can I just ask, are you sitting down first? It's free, I know. You just do it if you sell something. No, no, no. I'll tell you the price, but will you be honest with me? If it's too much money, will you tell me? Okay. Okay. So we work on a retainer model. the minimum monthly fee is three thousand pounds a month okay and and what how much else yeah so we'd work on a monthly retainer it depends on obviously like what what the goal is how many people you need to get in front of but it would be establishing like i don't even know if i could help you in your industry yet like we work with a few different clients that's similar to you but i'd probably need to like know a bit more about you to even know if i could help you i guess from from people that you'd want to be getting in front of what could you give me an example of what they might look like i mean you said the example say that again sorry you said it yourself so like businesses that want to pay more bigger clients chunkier retainers bigger a project what what does it actually look like paint me a picture no i mean you use the good example but it just has to be a good practice size good practice size okay good practice do you always do you always sit down with the right person or like what what what from what you're doing at the moment what would you improve just so i can kind of start working out a bit of a strategy we don't we don't call people you don't call people we don't call people they call us so we don't do anything cold.
45:09We don't do anything cold, outreach. Okay. So there might be people that are out there that have a need for what you do, but they might not necessarily know you exist, is that what you're saying?
45:26No, I mean marketing products is like your product. I mean I was sitting here, you reach me, you know a lot of people it's not the need that you needed today it's not the x-ray machine but you know 90 % of people have an old website or need some marketing but there's just so many things out there they're busy, they're doctors they have time to call around and then find out about these things so a need like that could sit for 4 years, 5 years so that's usually how it is i mean if you ask 10 five of them probably would would want something like that it's just busy to do it okay so so the people that you want to work with are probably too busy to either make make a change reach out to you find you that so like busy people yeah Yeah, because it's not the need.
46:25You have a car and it's fine, but you wouldn't mind a new car if you had the money, if you have time to go around, look at it.
46:37The ones who need it and then they think it's urgent, they reach out. But the other ones that are potential, they would eventually do it. Then that's like 10 times more. okay so there's a segment of the market that you're not getting because they're potentially not reaching out to you how come you don't just ring them yourselves or reach out to them I hate it I'm a doctor myself I've had people calling me five times a day I hate when people do that sorry but it's pretty annoying you okay yeah i don't remember again last time i talked i got like 12 15 calls a day wow you just just not so yeah we just don't like to do that actually but you know that's besides the fact most of the time this is something so could you i'm just curious now wait so you say you're you're the product are you guys saying you're the one who calls people it depends the retainer might have to go up a little bit if it was me but i've got a team as well like it it depends probably who has the most how did you just come across me you should be like super busy i am i'm super busy but i'm never too busy to prospect as you know like finding new customers should be the the heart of every business um why don't could i can ask you maybe a bit of a uh a direct question sean yeah what why why don't you hire somebody if you don't like it yourself why don't you hire somebody to to read i mean i'm it's not about myself i don't like to do that to people oh okay do you do you believe that if you had somebody that was ringing out on your behalf that it would work or do you think actually it wouldn't work?
48:30It's one of the worst industries in that sense because the doctors, they're not going to talk to you. Okay. You just can't even reach them. Reaching them, it's like you called me when I was working. There would be no way that you could actually talk to me. Okay. What do you think would work the most? So obviously you say they're too busy, you can't call them. Imagine they don't check their emails. they don't have LinkedIn. What else do you think you could do to get in front of all of these busy doctors?
49:04I mean,
49:09you do more regular marketing works. Regular marketing works. It's just a cold calling. It's much less effective. Okay. So it feels like there's a belief around cold calling be less effective. Obviously, if we were to sit down, it feels like you'd probably... I mean, let me correct myself. Cold calling by regular people is ineffective. Somebody like you, maybe. Maybe. Okay. Your action takes you half the way. okay okay so obviously there's a few different belief things there there's probably a few different strategy pieces there if we were to sit down it feels like you'd probably need to hear and see some specifics for you to believe that this might be suitable for your industry what would those things be well you're saying you charge three thousand i give you three thousand for two clients but i don't pay it in advance okay so no but if we were to obviously i'm i'm not in the game of like we're not going to barter now it's a first date we hardly know i'm just saying that you you asked you asked me what would it take i just told you you asked the question no but i mean like if we would sit down and have another discussion what would what would you need to hear on that call for you to be like this is a a good use of my oh i'm sorry i oh i misunderstood as a doctor or as you're talking about me as my client?
50:51Yeah, like me and you. So let me say that one more time. So if me and you, Sean, were to sit down, obviously I'm trying to sell to you, we're going to spend 30 minutes on a Microsoft Teams or Zoom or Google Hangout. In those 30 minutes, what would we need to cover? What would you need to find out? What would I need to tell you for you to say, that was a good use of my time?
51:16There is nothing. This is pretty straightforward. It's basically...
51:26Yeah, there is nothing. It just basically comes down to the way you charge and the risk of working with a company or someone like yourself. okay so there's some risk attachment which i think is completely fair i'll be honest with you sean i look i don't definitely know if we can help you yet because i feel like it's been a bit back and forth i probably don't know enough about you your industry to guarantee anything yet would it be a ridiculous idea to sit down at some point next week run through some ideas if i can't help you by the end of the call i'll be honest with you and if i can then i can kind of tell you how we'd work what those next steps would be would that be fair
52:12I just don't want to waste your time, so let me... Yeah, I don't want to waste your time, to be honest. I mean, yeah. I've done these types of things a lot when I started a business. Dreamfying... Yeah.
52:39it's it's the end isn't it sean some say goodbye it's the end it's time to say goodbye yes thank you for calling i appreciate your time sean
52:53well i got a conversation i'm never gonna help a dentist marketing agency in la and there was no there was no core effect was there that that was a real round the house is cold coal not much is happening thoughts feedback god you can you can be cruel with me uh i thought it was good i thought it was good good exploration i mean mate you turned him around he was very like didn't want to talk to you and you got around that i think a lot of sales people get stunted on the uh what do you actually do like and what does it charge how does it work and stuff you did a nice like he's sitting down it's gonna be bad and then you heard when you said he was like no okay like you could tell he's like not as bad as i thought keep going we did the dance you did the dance and you hit the classic like just not over that enough and i could have pushed it and i i reckon like you could have got it in the diary i don't think you would have showed that I was also never going to buy.
54:00So, a little lesson there. Zach Thompson, it's been fun. Who do you think are better? I think you're the best. I actually think that was a better call. UK or USA? I think that was good. Wow. And I went for the close because I thought if it had been a meeting, that would have been beautiful. UK or USA, let us know in the comments. It's been beautiful. I've been Jack Frimson. He's been Zach Thompson. Anything you want to leave us with? Just remember you'll die. Remember you'll die. Thanks, guys. Thank you.
