0:29Is this a dream? Welcome to a very special episode of the Super Angel Podcast. I am David, one of the co-founders of EVC, and I'm here with my fantastic co-host and co-founder, Andreas. Today, we've got something extraordinary to share with you. That is right, David. This episode is a celebration of the incredible journey we've embarked on, featuring some of the brightest minds in the angel investing world. We've done 20 incredible episodes with the Super Angels. It all began with a clear purpose. Our mission was to connect with angels who share our passion for championing the next generation of European unicorn founders, regardless of their location.

1:05We've been dedicated to addressing the fundamental questions that resonate with our fellow angels. How can they provide value to founders, identify those game-changing entrepreneurs, and expand their horizons into new geos and industries? And you know what, Andres, it's been a great ride so far. And we all know what that calls for. Yeah! We've had the privilege of learning from your super angels, and hopefully we managed to distill their experience into actionable insights for you, our shares listeners. As we look back at our journey, let's tip our hats to some of the incredible guests we've had on the show so far.

1:36Renovisaj, co-founder of Eventbrite, Michael Wax from Forto, Giulio Morangelo, who transitioned from VC to angel investing, Alex Bariche with more than 80 angel investments, Roxanne Varza from Station F, and the list goes on and on. But David, let's not forget something incredibly important. The Super Angel Podcast was a longtime dream here at EUVC, and it became a reality thanks to our very good friend, Anthony Dannon, who joined us as a co-host, bringing his unique perspectives as a VC turned angel. Thanks, Andreas. I've had a blast so far with the Super Angel Podcast, and I can't wait for what's to come.

2:11All of our guests have shared great insights that are very applicable to an angel investing journey. As a host, I've learned myself that the journey to becoming an angel investor often takes a remarkably organic path. It starts from a passion to support fellow entrepreneurs and naturally evolves from there. The most significant return from angel investing, as mentioned by many guests, is often emotional first, with financial gains only following second. Oh, and the great takeaway from many of our episodes was that varying check size with conviction level seems to always be viewed as a mistake done in the first years.

2:44One valuable takeaway, keep check size consistent. But hey, it wasn't that all angels were marching to the same beat, nor were they sharing consistent viewpoints necessarily. For example, specialists and generalists tend to have opposing views on their approaches. Specialists argue that deep domain knowledge and access are essential for gaining an edge, while generalists believe that specializing might make you lose your edge. emphasizing the importance of curiosity and how being slightly naive is essential for disrupting the status quo. And if that sounds interesting, go on and listen to some of our past episodes.

3:21For what it's worth, I do revisit some of the episodes myself every now and then. But there's more to today's episode. We're not only celebrating our journey, but also introducing a new member to our podcast hosting team. Joining our partner and crime, Anthony Danone from Krakowa, and the dynamic duo David and Dres from UBC, we're thrilled to welcome Tom Wilson from SeedCamp as our new co-host in this special series. Hello, everyone. I'm Tom Wilson, and I'm absolutely thrilled to be part of this exceptional team of hosts at the Super Angel podcast. I'm coming to you from SeedCamp, where I've had the privilege of collaborating with some of Europe's most promising startups.

3:57As a longtime SeedStage investor, we've always been dedicated to fostering strong relationships with angel investors and inviting them in as co-investors alongside us. So this is a perfect fit in this initiative and joining as a co-host with the Super Angel podcast. From a personal perspective, despite being nearly a decade into my venture career, I maintained a relentless desire for improvement and ongoing learning. I found that some of the best board members and operators I've had the privilege of working with have been great angel investors. That's why I'm truly excited about expanding my network, having a front row seat to the incredible guests we bring onto the podcast.

4:37Now, you might wonder why we're doing this. Well, each of us brings a unique flavor to the mix, making this podcast an exciting exploration of different viewpoints. So for me, I've been in the VC game for quite a while. But also three years ago, I dipped my toes into angel investing for the first time. What struck me was how angels can build these incredible trust-based relationships with founders. I saw firsthand the power of the angel-founder relationship. That's why I'm all in on this podcast. It's not just a professional thing for me, it's personal. I firmly believe angels can often be some of the most valuable capital founders can have on their cap tables.

5:14Highlighting stories of emerging and super angels will hopefully inspire many new such angel investors. And it is a big bonus to be able to partner with Tom and Seedcamp on this. Feels like the perfect match, honestly. Not only have I known them since the start of my career, but they have also been pivotal for the European tech ecosystem and the foundational building block for European seed investing overall. Well, Anthony, your kind words mean a lot. Thank you so much. As for me, I believe that angel investors are a key pillar to the startup ecosystem and their positive impact on cap tables can far exceed the check size that they write.

5:50I see a massive opportunity to help amplify their stories, inspiring further angel investors and highlighting the great work they do for prospective founders. I am genuinely excited about the opportunity to speak with the best established and emerging angels from across Europe on the Super Angel podcast. Feels great to be part of this dynamic quartet, if you can call us that, working alongside Anthony from Cocoa and the EUVC duo, David and Andreas. I know I can speak for Andreas in saying that, so are we, but let's wrap things up. Final question. Who should tune in to the Super Angel podcast? It's a great question.

We’re kicking the Super Angel series into a whole new gear for 2024 by introducing Seedcamp-partner Tom Wilson as our new co-host 🥳 alongside the existing host team of the amazing Anthony Danon from Cocoa, David and Andreas 🎙️

But before celebrating Tom, let us just pause and extend a heartfelt shoutout to Anthony Danon, whose contributions as a co-host have been pivotal to the Super Angel Podcast so far 💖. Anthony's vast network, particularly potent within fintech (but, tbh, generally quite mindblowing), has brought forth some of the most brilliant founders and operators to our platform.

But there’s another reason why Anthony is the perfect host for the series: with just shy of twenty angel investments made prior to launching his angel fund Cocoa, his money is where his mouth is - and with two portfolio unicorns, that’s a good place 🦄.

Anthony's deep understanding of the VC space and his dedication to bridging the gap between angels and VCs have been invaluable. His efforts have not only sculpted the podcast's feel, but also its success.

Thank you, Anthony. We can’t wait to continue on our joint journey for decades to come 🚀

Welcoming Tom Wilson to the host team 🎧
Tom comes to us with a wealth of experience from Seedcamp, where he has worked closely with some of the most promising startups in Europe. But Seedcamp is way more than just one of Europe’s top tier seed VCs with a ludicrous track. Ever since their founding in 2007, Seedcamp has been dedicated to connecting VCs and Angels across Europe having built its own fully-fledged network economy where 1,000+ founders, experts, angels and VCs come together to make each other stronger.

Or as Tom said in connection to the launch of Seedcamp VI:

"It does make sense to build a village around the founders for that initial phase and so with our very collaborative approach, and the fact that we had the chance over the past years to work with pretty much everyone that invests early in Europe, we can be a catalyst to really help entrepreneurs find the best partner for that round."

Being a catalyst for finding the right partners. That’s exactly what the eu.vc pod is about - be that as an LP, a co-investor or a founder. Connecting Europe. The super angel series being specifically designed to champion the amazing angels across the continent.

By joining the Super Angel Podcast, Tom brings the collective wisdom of Seedcamp to the forefront, offering listeners a unique insight into the journey of tech investing from the ground up.In case you should’ve missed some of our Super Angel episodes (which you’d be excused for, we’re keeping a pretty good pace on the pod), we’ve collected them all for you on the playlist below 🎧
