0:16They are being brainwashed in Kashmir. Do you see that as a big threat? Maybe 20 years ago, there is no problem. What is strong memory? Where you have to take the tough decision of your military life. The Pakistani group has been sent to them. As a commanding officer, I lost one of them. and two issues. When my Surdar was crying, I had to send him home. Why? Because he was showing weakness in front of everybody. This is not a profession to cry. You have to be strong, right? If you are going to fall, then who will follow you? Have you been crying? Maybe. Which mission was the most dangerous? Yes.
0:55What is the craziest thing you have seen? Terrorists have used you. How they hide themselves. One Pakistani was hidden under the bathroom of the house. The two shaped charges were thrown down. The blast went downwards. That whole thing collapsed. We found so many CDs. How many people it killed. Video taped everything. Indian Army's future gathering. Learn to fight together under a single commander with all three forces together. Secondly, we have to fight in ground, air, sea, space, cyber. How is our strategy different from Pakistan military or China military?
1:33Today we are listening to how people are replacing AI, how people are taking jobs. But the problem is not that AI is coming. The problem is that we don't need to use AI. 3:23What do you think today for India? Who is the biggest threat? Pakistan or China? Pakistan is not a threat. It is just a threat along with China. We have to keep forces on the West also. West or East or North, the forces are divided. we have to keep forces in the West also to contain Pakistan. On its own it is no threat. Why because of just pure muscle power, strategy, military? No, because they will do what they will do. Raj, when you make a defensive strategy, you take a worst case scenario, what can you do? Where can you come? What is their capability? what is the possibility of what is happening in our country.
4:13There is an internal war in Balochistan. Their forces are deployed there. How can we come here? That doesn't mean that we can show weakness here. We can do something clear. But daily, the terror attacks are the third time. And we are the daily terrorists. Is there a way, is there a world where the terrorism is going to be done? Why will it do? It's a cheap option to keep us involved. Can we do something that where we solve terrorism problems We don't want to be like them. Who are they sending? They are sending their own people? Why would we want to send our people? You think, they send their people into the industry.
5:04Why do we send our people? Why do you send them? We have 100 things better to do. Fair. But is our intelligence so strong that everything can stop? Intelligence is strong. We have heard 2-3 failures recently. Failure is not happening. What happens? A terrorist can carry out 100 failures. We have to fail once. The number of attacks we have stopped them. with a way number of attacks through way there is a gap of one into hundred it is like you are hitting pinging on thousands of places millions of places in one weakness you get through but that is enough for them to create trouble so one person comes and we kill we damage when our neighborhood is difficult we should be prepared to deal with neighborhoods that are difficult and do you think your soft power use and use our people are doing brainwash in Kashmir is that a threat do you see that as a big threat maybe 20 years ago problem can happen now people are clear both in northeast and in Kashmir that we can't live with Pakistan can't live with Pakistan.
6:31That is totally clear with everybody. So the anti-India sentiment is a small pocket. It's not big. Anti-India in the sense that there is no development, governance is not good. But there is no such population pocket that Pakistan wants to go to. No one has ended. and they were finished 20-30 years ago. They know that there is no place to go. And China uses such strategies? Do you think the Manipur situation or the people who give guns from Myanmar are all China doing there so that India will have some trouble and we will try to break internally? Raj, every country, every enemy country, industry, he will try to make a banana.
7:23It is on our side that we have to strengthen ourselves. So, he will see the weakness. Why not? He will see his work. Do they do it? Do you think? I have no doubt. No, the meaties cookies may not be the case. But I have no doubt that other, Bangladesh used to help, Pakistan used to help in one time ULFA. to. Okay. Many of our Naga groups were coming to China. They were the old and now they can start. But if we can see if we can't see weakness and we become one, then who can disturb us? We are trying to become one. And there was a sentiment for a long time for a third time, terrorism was almost, we have done internal conflicts and terrorism and then the money for the conflict that started which became a very big thing which probably was always but now it has come again in the spotlight because it has increased the movement where we have to deploy the army government has ruled a lot of things all these things are extrapolated and the light is getting do you think other countries have involvement in this?
8:44At the present moment It would be very little Very little Where are guns and weapons Where are the money coming from To fund the whole thing Think about Myanmar I always believe Raj When you do a strategy Or a thought process You have to see First of all Three things One is history One is geography and a culture. Immediately, Manipur and Mizoram is a Chin state. Our Mizos are also related to Chin's. These are Mizos and Chinzos. And Kukki also are Chinzos. In Manipur, they say Kukki, they are related to Chin people. Chin's have been fighting Myanmar army for the last 25 years. Where are the people from the country?
9:51They are buying it. In Yunnan there is a market. Yunnan is China on the border. There is a market in a small town called Ruli. It is a grey market. It is a grey market. weapons are coming from there, where is the drug money? Narcotics. Where you see weakness, people can take advantage. And we should not see weakness on this. But there was a news recently that China militants, India, Manipur, China is providing guns and weapons, and they are providing hideouts in Myanmar.
11:01I can't say for certain because I have retired some time back. But my thought process is that if you will see your weakness, then this will happen. And we are seeing it. Now if there is a struggle inside, then there is weakness. Exactly. So people will take advantage. But now we have closed. Governor is doing a very good job by doing this. Now it will take another year, two years, and we will get peace back. main thing which I have always believed and which I always say that if in South Africa apartheid regime blacks could sit down and live together now we can't do it in money you are a youth icon only the young can change things the young should get together and say forget all these stories why am I sacrificing my future for this now first discuss geography that you are living with 200 years you have to live with 2000 years so what are you going to fight and change that geography, history, culture you can't change it's better that you accept same with Burma it's the same thing with Myanmar chains are there we have to deal with them I was director general Assam Rifles was coming in as refugees.
12:32I told him that we have to stop this. He said that I cannot stop this. This is my brother. There is a sacred mountain. There are sacred stones. There is sacred forest. We are coming from this. I cannot stop this.
12:51They have been tribes for thousands of years. So we have to deal with them. And until we don't deal with this, until it will continue. But my belief is, that if we can sit with white and black, then we can sit with them. The question is, do they want to? They have to. Do you think? What do you know about this situation? I have to cut my entire life. Do they want to? All I can say is, they are sacrificing their future. And if you sacrifice your future, you don't have your future. You have sacrificed your next three generations.
13:38Hindustan, India is the only stable nation in this neighborhood. You have to be with us. We are the only success story. Whatever you do, we are the only success story of this neighbor order. True. And you have to join us. I used to be also the chairman of the CISFIRE monitoring group. As you would know, I have discussed with the Naga and Sourcing groups. I would say this. You can go. You can't go. You have to be a part of us. We are the only success story. What have you got to cover and how many generations? And success in our? What else?
14:43Do you think we were talking about China? there is a hidden strategy in China that should counter India China's strategy is that we are the top guns in Asia India is not the top gun so they will keep making us weak strategy is to keep us weak to keep us involved China's strategy is to keep us involved within the neighborhood, keep us fighting so how do we counter by not getting into this avoiding ignorance simple right their largest strategy is to keep us weak and our largest strategy has to be remain strong and if if we dominate in 10 years and have to take the superpower position from China and like we want to be the top what do you think what do you think you go back into history 10 ,000 last century you go Vietnam Vietnam Cambodia?
15:45You see Angkor Wat? No, I'm not in Vietnam but Cambodia Cambodia is a huge Hindu temple Angkor Wat That was 10 centuries ago Hinduism, Buddhism traveled from India through Burma to the Southeast Asia and affected all the Southeast nations I write a book about it The soft power of the North East and how it will help us connect with the Southeast Asian nations If our culture whatever we can give to the world that travel and go so far when you go there they tell you themselves that we are also the Khmer people of which Cambodia is a part of they tell you that Khmer empire used to be an empire from India we can't get it back but we were the golden road if you went to the village of Daryl Ampal then the golden road was not China that is a fallacy what do you think we should not do this which we should defeat otherwise we are doing everything right and eventually we will beat China We should not fight between ourselves.
17:11Choti choti choti cheezo pe never get involved. But that's always been the problem for us. We have to change somewhere, Raj. You can't, there has been no rise of any superpower. Just like that. The Americans fought in the First World War. They fought in the Second World War. And from there on became a superpower. The Russians lost six million people in the Second World War. and then became a superpower tell me
17:46it's no hidden fact we do it in a very few places it's already been very few but now it's still sometimes in language sometimes in identity sometimes in community sometimes in tribal sometimes in state sometimes in land sometimes in religion all of this all of this all of this these fights artificially create some powers that you have to fight on the ground level. Raj, my belief is that if the fight that man does, he will be weak. In the small things, there is no self-worth. So we have to create a self-worth that they don't see these small things. It's only when you build your own self that you become stronger than the Atms.
18:35now we are strong but now there are situations recently what I heard the Tamil Nadu chief minister announced that about the language Bangalore and Karnataka which is about the language then community fights in Manipur then overall India has a sentiment around two religions majorly so these all things internally do you think it is politically motivated or the country to instability I am of the opinion that we cannot be so weak that we allow someone else to interfere in us But are we? We cannot, we should not be. That's like I said, I have no clue of what our intelligence bureau is thinking. What do you think?
19:13I'm asking that. What do you think? I feel our people are weak and they get manipulated. So by who? Internal forces, outside forces is the question. You know Raj, when you deal with so many people and you see the main issues involved, some of the issues are within the people. it could be religion it could be culture it could be anything and that is coming out but sometimes coming out is a good thing because with that we can sort those issues out you know memories are long Raj there are little things you said that our strength is that we are not fighting We are not able to kill our area. No one can kill us.
20:04That is absolutely clear. We know that we know that we know and we don't know anyone. Even with the latest surveillance that other people have, they can't do the way we do. Do you think that China and Pakistan because these are both dangerous territories in our past, if they attack each other, will India be able to survive? But they are together, Raj. It is. It is not in the realm of do you think this will happen? It is together. They are operating together. So if we both attack, what will we play? Raj, in this larger issue of attack, there is no word of this attack. When war, how is war prosecuted?
20:51is you first start with your surveillance then you start moving your forces then you see where are the weaknesses of that enemy you decide to launch what you have to launch so we are clear that Pakistan and China are sharing complete information the most important is capability we know what is China and Pakistan capability what is the possibility? Okay? Second thing is that we will have the intent. When will this intent change? When will we decide that where to fight? Where is the weakness of the industry? If we can't do the basis of the weakness, three-traf, four-traf, five-traf decide to do that is our information that where, what and when these are situations that we have to be that we have clarity but we are so clear that both are sharing weapons they are sharing information they are looking for weaknesses but let's say on the right and the left I will talk about this North East and West I will ask you and if you have two sides if you have attacks because West is more Pakistan now Hindustan's map our North and East we have Himalayas we have North and East we have Himalayas hold ka rakhah hai jahhan watershed hai haman hai hold ka rakhah hai or tien -čar levels pe hold ka rakh to agar haman hai unko hold ka rakhah hai udhar udhar ladai karna namunkin hai koi aisi jaga nahi hai jahhaan China anndar aasak hai
23:07agar aayegi it will suffer and our clarity is that China will block us and Pakistan will take a punitive action. This clarity is clear. China will block us and Pakistan will break us. Our ability is our ability. If there is something happens, So the first thing is that our systems, our course and strike course, we are absolutely clear that we have to do what we have to do, where we have to do. So this is the clarity that we both have met. This is a very extreme future, so we can attack both of us. We are prepared. and east to west if there are two sides, we are prepared because one can enter from let's say Assam side Assam side Assam side is Bangladesh and Myanmar so why Myanmar route Myanmar last Japanese army came in second world war for the Chinese army it will be difficult because Myanmar itself is facing 16 insurgencies.
24:34Two China are giving them a hand. They are doing it. It is not easy to bring forces from there. But weakness is. And we can cover that weakness. And this is our chicken neck position. Chicken neck which you are talking about the Silikuri corridor is a 22 km corridor It was still in Bangladesh but it is not for us for a little while It will come back? I am certain because geography, history, culture all are clear You can fight a little bit, but it doesn't change. History doesn't change. So, it's not easy for chicken snack. We have a whole core here. And that core is bigger than the entire Bangladesh army.
25:36So, it's not easy. There's no vulnerability here. If someone thinks that it will come from here or there. from here. No possible. That is not possible. Where we have perceived weaknesses, Raj, we have war game, we have fought with what we have to fight with what we have to fight with. We have to complete our plans. We are prepared. Fully. This is not the army of 1962. today Indian Atma is a very strong motivated force we go out we go for competition we go for patrolling competition we go in UN we are always the top and how is our strategy different from Pakistan military or China military how is our strategy different?
26:35How is our cause? I have told you before that we don't fight outside the nation. Our cause is always just. Like Pakistan if you look at. Pakistan's motive is that they have a crisis of identity. Pakistan's narrative is false. they run in a gap we don't run in a gap we run in a gap but there are only strategies that they have to get into the mind of India therefore nation is because they have an identity crisis if you look at four years they don't have anything identity when India is relevant they are getting a little bit in layman words China is an expansionist they have to grow יחination we could go look out geography am I a commander of tens like I can succeed and will reign they will live
27:59It's very difficult. In the 1960s, they had to do a cross. Then they went back. It's not easy.
28:13Every army is a professional army. You think, like you plan to do this work. I have to call them. or this kind of thing. Similarly, we have to cut every country and every country we have to decide and plan that where our weakness is. What weakness is we cover and what kind of thing is we cover. And that is our total covered. What forces are we going to use? Where do we put forces? where to put the forces, we have done. Tell me one thing, if we don't know about this, and it's related to India, how to prepare for the war, or how to prepare for everything, what is something that the public don't know, we don't know.
29:08See, the Indian army, we are constantly preparing. Even if now there is a major danger. Constant. There is no rest for us. Our policy is that the more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war. This is clear. In peace, we constantly practice, constantly exercises and that is very important. So, if there is a professional army, Navy, Air Force, then no one can't surprise you with this way.
29:58Like Cargill, they occupied the top post. They thought that we will fight back at that height. But we have been able to fight on the heights of that height and get out of it and occupy it. Now, as I was in the GOC, the division of the work, we are occupying on the heights of 15, 16, 17, 18, 1 ,000 foot, 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year,
30:40We are holding our line. In our eight mountain division, we induct the troops in September, and then we bring the troops back to June. They are there. We call it the winter lockdown period. And for that winter lockdown period, Raj, they are completely stocked. complete food, water, kerosene, ammunition, equipment, weapons, all are stocked. And we are ready. Always. Always. So our period from June to September is a very, very busy period where we are pushing everything up. so that when our troops go in from that September, October onwards till June we can't get back. See Pakistan understands this strategy of being prepared in our area.
31:43We will give them punitive answer and the way we hold will happen. We are not stocked, ammunition, strategy. Logistics is absolutely clear. Our weapons are clear. Motivation intact. Motivation is very good. There is no such weakness. But do you think that China against especially our military spends is so much where we can fight? No, you are comparing. Don't compare. As I said, we are defending our nation. We are protecting our country. If someone is attacking us, attack, then you should have 10 times more strength to bring us up. We should have successful attack on our attack. If I have 100, then it should have 1000.
32:39And why do you say so? Because that is the way mountains battle is like this. It doesn't get less. not happen.
32:49The mountains, when you fight in the mountains, mountains eat troops. Because you can defend 100 people more than 1000 people's attack. Why? It's difficult. It's a difficult situation. We will attack. We are in defense. We have bunkers. we are protected what will they do they have to come in open and for us it's a bird eye view for everything so if you have to fight in the infantry it will take 10 times that strength for anyone to come inside India they are not there anymore because we know how many people in the Tiberi Administrative Division are there in the Tiberi Administrative Division We don't have enough of them.
33:44And the time they will take, and how much time they will develop, and if the forces will be taken from Taiwan, then we get to know about their intent. That they are moving, and they will take 3-4-5-6 months. Until they will be prepared internally. And in the world also, we will not allow geography to be changed. but they do they do a little change geopolitically right tactics like recently what they did map they have a part there it's all it's all it's all it's all it's all it's all who cares about maps nobody cares but they do it we have every day but they change everything that what is Chinese I used used to be the commander on the Chinese side.
34:40In 2009, I was a commander in Dem Chalk.
34:47Chinese people are bullying. They are bullying. They are in their opinion that we can bully them. When there is a flag meeting, their first action is a very vocal, loud, aggressive action. I told him to the senior colonel that you don't frighten me. You know, his interpreter told him that he was saying like, I said, you want to start war. I am prepared for anything. So you don't frighten me. If you don't have to talk about it, then you have to sit with me and talk about it. I'm not prepared for that. Why are we wasting time here? I'm coming to meet you and you come to meet me. I'm sitting and talking.
35:46When he realizes that I can't bully then he gets tired. His actions are the same. The first action is bully. and they feel like we will get away with it maybe we will get away do you think that they have a superiority complex that we have a little bit that we have a superiority complex that we have a think that we have a 10 feet tall but we have not realistically if we have a fight something happens this is realistic it is more realistic and if we have a question that we have a fight we have prepared something we have not along the line of action control we also have to go. It's a big deal. But is it a possibility that someone will go on the whole way?

36:37I don't think so. Do you think? If we are wrong, Raj, if we are weak, we can do it. What we are wrong? If we are weak. Weak in what sense? In the sense that our force is totally 100 % deployed. 100 % on the top. We have covered everything. When we are covered and we don't leave any gaps, we can't do anything. The problem is when we leave gaps. But we have set many camps, outposts, weaponry. But our deployment is 100 % If we have reduced this 100 % or shift, we will be out. And if they feel that they find some weakness there, But armies in the world today don't do this, Raj. They don't do it. Two countries are doing it outside.
37:32There is a war. Our war is a war. The geography of Russia and Ukraine is not a mountain. It's a plain area. You can move it in a plain area. We are covered by mountains. To bring troops across mountains is a very major issue. and China has fought with Tibet from 10 ,000 to 12 ,000 feet their forces have to come in to be acclimatized there is not so easy acclimatization but in every time China doesn't encroach we can encroach we can push them because line is not like this what is the rule of control which is our border and the perceived border of Chinese, we have not done a definitive line. So these things are happening up and down.
38:35But there is nothing that the country should worry about. Because in these areas, we will define and we have signed an agreement that this is my line and that is your line. So this is going up and down. We are clear with Pakistan. We are clear with this. This is our line. You can't cross this. And we have put a fence and made it. What is your strongest memory where you have to take the most difficult or the tough decision of your military life? Frankly, when you become senior, you know, every decision of yours affects human lives. As a commanding officer, operations. We had information about a Pakistani group of terrorists.
39:25We were chasing them for three to four days. And after three or four days, our interaction from the group first was on their own. And in that mood, I lost one Havaldar and two Desios in a matter of 35 minutes. Maybe they were tired. I was chasing them for four days. Maybe they were tired. Their decision was, do I leave them? I couldn't get the bodies. I was keeping my people there. Food was for five days. Forget the food. We're going to stay on. We're going to get them. and I called my soldiers and I said in Nepal I told them I said see this is what has happened I have taken the decision that we will be here and for that I lost one more Jaisio But when I was talking to myself, one who texted me the pussy, He said, I would이고 myself to doubt,
41:03he would lose the battle. we want you to be the best commanding officer you can achieve victory with us defeated army is not going to be defeated a young man told me but you never thought that I am taking decisions and pushing extra it was killing my own people this young man told me that you cannot doubt can't be doubt. The commander of the officer can't be doubt in this situation. The leader is always a leader. The decision is you have taken. But my people are dying. My people. That is exactly the situation that people will die. But the larger perception that I have I will not take my unit down having lost the battle.
42:01and we achieved it we killed all seven of them
42:11I had my suddarmajar crying I had to send him home Raj I can't help wasn't crying I'm sorry why? this is not a profession to cry but there are sometimes emotions this is not the time for those emotions you have to be strong but third time then they again go back to a lesson at a particular time I could have accepted it but not at that time I am sorry we have to have to accept it but why did you not accept it can't do it because he was showing weakness in front of everybody.
43:02Because what happens when everyone's eyes are on you. And everyone is watching what you feel. What will your reaction happen? If you will fall, then who will follow you? A leader cannot have doubts. You can't be rogues? Maybe personal, private. Definitely. But I never want to lead. Never. No moment. I have to doubt myself. From inside. But I have never seen it. When I was going to Siachin, I was talking about 1984. I was a captain. I was 4 years old. 25 years old. In my group, I was a ski trooper, the country's best skiers, best mountaineers. Deputy leader was Narbu, he was an Everest mountaineer.
44:12He was a kirti chakra, a shawret chakra, he was not his interest.
44:18So it was the third day, we were going to the glacier in 3 to 4.
44:25Somewhere along the line I was a little tired. I sat down. I picked me up like this. I said sir, you are a good kid. Why sit? I don't know if you sit in the glacier, you will get to the glacier. One thing is glacier latitude. It sucks your energy, sucks your body heat. You can't sit on the glacier. He says, you are a leader, you lead. We are behind you. You are ahead. He was an average mountaineer. He took me and said to me, I am with you. What was the most dangerous mission? The most dangerous had to be Siachin. In 1983, he asked who all volunteers for high risk missions? He didn't tell anything in 1983.
45:32We had to warrant it. When we were inducted in the glacier, all I can say that I didn't know anything. I'm saying I'm going to go on which way, how much time will it take? Nothing. It's open territory. And the glacier was 16 ,000 feet, huge, 8 km wide mountains, reaching up to 20 ,000-20 ,000 feet. What was the operation? The mission was to hold the glacier because Pakistan was attacking. You had to hold the glacier. That they didn't want to come to the glacier. They didn't want to come to the glacier. So we basically went and told us three passes. One was a Gyeongla, where 19 was. One was a Bella Kondola, where 4 was.
46:23Sanjay Kulkarni was retired as the Def. General. He was a captain then, like me. A year and a half senior to me. and there was a Shiala who was Baugana and there was Indra call the last point on the glacier the highest point you had to go and hold those and we had never seen them we didn't know but we did that so how did you when there was no equipment or there was no supply and then decided that we will not go down from here.
47:05Whatever. What was the biggest fear here? That you will not wake up in the morning. Because you will freeze. High altitude, pulmonary edema. What happens? HIPPO. But if you are not fully acclimatized, your body can suddenly see that oxygen is reduced. And there were a lot of cases of our soldiers dying. out of nowhere all of a sudden yes he's frozen to death so what do you do in that situation can you evacuate his body no in your brain when you know that you have the people who are with you are with one hand and one hand is broken now what is going on in your brain I mean, I think that's the strength.
47:53That's not my strength. I have to stay. And this sound of nerves came to my mind. I have to be a jerk. How old were you? 25. Just keep telling me. What a giant of a man. And he had so much of energy that he died. He used to drink a lot. He was an amazing person and what a member of a team. Tell me about your first kill. Have you had the kills? Yeah, yeah, yeah. But you know Raj, you call it a kill. We don't call it that. I don't like this word kill. But first time successful operation where your gun and enemy was shot. I'm an officer. I'm the leader. So I don't have to claim that I have been shooting.
49:04We when we were operations we were together our team together. Now If you have told you that you are a terrorist so you surround that house surrounding house you interact see who is inside and based on who is inside I have to learn something seeing the casualties which are our commandos commanders. I have banned house entry. You won't do house entry. No, no militant. Militant is hidden. We won't go inside. Why? We will kill him by destroying the house. 24 December 2007 we told him that three Hezbollah Mujahideen terrorists had caught inside a mosque. in a village called Palna Pandit, in a village called Shopeya.
50:15And in that, our young man had got injured and he was lying inside that mosque and they didn't know it. It was hidden. And he went inside the mosque. So the commanding officer at that time sent from the village to talk to them. that don't do this mosque operation here. I mean, don't come inside the mosque. They took four hostages from the village. So on 24th of December, I told myself that there are five hostages. There are five hostages in the mosque. There is a young man who has a bullet injury. But they don't know he's there. this is what we have to do. And my co-signor says that I must kill him.
51:11We must enter. I said, no, I'm going to come. And I reached the other. First thing we did was we surrounded the mosque. And about two, three houses away, I was there. And I kept on thinking that I will do what to do. Because before that, we had that issue of hazard care. What happened in the hazard care operation? what happened in the world? They burned the mosque. The terrorists burned the mosque and India got a very bad name. I said, man, these two things should not happen. Back to back. So throughout the day, I did not allow anyone to enter. I kept the thing, kept on, you know, pushing the people inside, using tear gas, using whatever we could, to keep them inside, to keep them in a disturbed condition.
52:04because I knew they are not going to surrender Raj but they don't surrender they will kill everyone they will burn themselves they will burn the house they will burn the mosque and then again South Kashmir will be on fire because this was the point that the force has gone to the mosque first 24 hours for me to make a strategy that I am going to get them out but I am not going to give in to this point that they allowed them to burn the mosque. What did you do then? We kept on talking to them. We were monitoring their conversation which they were doing on the mobile. But what happened? What happened?
52:43Why did I come? We'll leave you. Okay, surrender. Let's go and leave. Let's go and leave. Let's go and leave. But I was clear that we will not surrender. We will not surrender. And if we pushed a little bit more, we will kill the hostages and burn the mosque. So, I put a perimeter fence for the first 24 hours. It was a constant coil. It was about say almost 500 meters away from the where they could not see. Then we brought lights, we brought generators. We brought the perimeter. Why did you not have to look at it? The question was that and we kept on disturbing their sleep. Even if we don't sleep at night, they didn't even listen to them.
53:38Meanwhile, I moved the troughs out and brought in fresh troughs. So then my troughs were fresh. They were tired. Next 24 hours, you could see the conversation becoming desperate. Because we were getting the communication that this is happening. So somewhere near 4 o 'clock in the evening, 4-5 December, Kashmir, it starts becoming dark. So I switched off lights one place and one place was bright. All of the mosque itself. And I was confident that once I switched off lights, the terrorist will make a break for the darkness because he will feel I have a chance and the hostages they will make a break for the light because they have to save their lives and exactly almost what 48 hours after the terrorist did a break out and they ran towards the darkness darkness, darkness, we killed all three of them and we saved all the hostages.
55:04So I'm quite clear that if you have patience, you can do it.
55:13That is their decision but I decided that I won't do this. I tell you another one, a Pakistani who had married a Kashmiri girl was hidden under the bathroom of the house. She was built in a bunker underneath. And the bathroom is outside of her house. So, the whole house didn't get searched. Finally, we went to the bathroom and we put water in it and that water didn't go.
55:48when we finally realized I didn't allow our boys to dig we have shaped charges shaped charges we put the charge and the blast goes downward the two shaped charges blast went downwards that whole thing collapsed then it was like we found so much of material, we found so many CDs, we found so many operations, how many people he'd killed, he'd videotaped everything. What is the most craziest thing you've seen, which terrorists have used? Any tactic, any strategy, because those people are also talking a lot of problems. The main thing, Raj, is how they hide themselves. I'll tell you a little story.
56:39I don't know. This is 1993.
56:45We were in Anantanag, Doro, Doro, there is hills there. 16 Rajput, our young people were taking a team out. 16, I'm forgetting now, it's quite a time. And they came across this terrorist lying on a bed. children playing there so they straight away you know planned to kill and they found a child they hesitated moment he hesitated that Terz was killed we hesitated what do you think future what is our military Indian army future next 10 years how will it look Indian armed forces which is one thing we have to learn to fight together. Armed forces means Army, Navy, Air Force the barriers between we will be broken.
57:49You will have theater commands under single commander with all three forces together. It will come. Next year has to come. Secondly, Indian armed forces have to fight in multi-domains. Ground, air, sea, space, cyber.
58:22We have to fight. We have to learn to fight. We have to develop technologies to fight. there is no option those technologies have to come to you you have to develop you have to be a space force you have to be a cyber force you have to be linked up the world is moving to that and we have to be prepared do you think that we will become a military super power or not? Is it possible or not? Raj, we want to become? That is the question you have to ask yourself. Where do you want to fight? We want to defend. What superpower do you want? We are capable of defending ourselves. The US is coming to Afghanistan.
59:19They have a expeditionary force. We don't go. Our ambition is that we defend our country and we grow economically. But don't you think it's necessary that our military power is very strong? Military power is strong. I'm saying that Vixit Bharat, we said in 2047, that is Suraqshit Bharat. Vixit Bharat cannot be until Suraqshit Bharat is not. So we don't need expedition for this? You don't need, why do you need? Your country has so much advantageous, you have the most advantage. How are they going to come to you? Through the mountains. Mountains are difficult to bring troops. It's not easy. And sea route?
1:00:17What will they do? It is not like the sea that the Britishers could come during those days, and sat in the city and sat in the city. Those things are not there. India has a full ocean. We are the only country in the world that has an ocean. China says it may be named the Indian Ocean, but it is not India's ocean. But it is actually our. What do we control? It is not the control. It is protecting us. But China is opening. But what will it take? How many forces can it come? Like the 100 ships? They're deploying their launchers, they're deploying their ships. 200 ships? Let's name a figure. Nothing happens.
1:01:01How can I do it? You have the sea is there. You've got Andaman Islands. Geography is our friend. But do you think we'll ever get to a position because our geography friend is? we will do this that we will be offensive from the defensive zone. Why not? When we can, a thousand years ago, we could influence nations with our soft power. We don't need hard power. We'll do that again. It will be that. Fair. Well, perfect. I believe that personally. That our future is this. Golden road was our. It will be done? has to be well perfect sir thank you so much thank you Raj it was pleasure having you thank you Raj it was genuinely an honor to talk to you thank you Raj thank you for doing this thank you and you have such an engaging manner thank you and I wish you all the best what you said is that as a child gives you new ideas and you can see those new ideas yeah you see break the cage fear they're gonna be Yes.
