In short

An introverted creative’s day-to-day life and career in a people-first industry, covering focus, desk/admin habits, using (or avoiding) AI, lunch routines, and building a studio from a converted barn/stable.

Guest backgrounds

Zach (the host) is an introverted office/creative designer who’s grown into a well-known name in creative office design; he’s building a studio and recently hired his first team member after working solo.

Key claims

introversion shows up as shyness around new people, but work makes socializing easier; focus is hard (distractions happen); AI should be avoided for the “creative/person” side, though it can be used as a second opinion; having a teammate reduces the need for AI confirmation.

Notable examples

Farmer J’s lunch when in town; “maximalist” messy desk with leads/papers; studio build taking ~6–8 months; “become one of my clients” for an invite.

0:00What's your desk like? It's not even worth it. Talking about... It's a mess. It's always a mess.

0:14What's it messy with? I don't know. I honestly don't know. It's just always messy with like things. Leads or papers or... I don't know. I'm a maximalist so it's got stuff on it. It's just stuff that I like as well. Oh, I see. And I just don't know where else to put stuff. It's just there, on my desk. What's the best thing that happens in a day? Maybe just being focused for a decent amount of the day. What, like 15 minutes? Without being distracted. Without being distracted, honestly. I get distracted a lot. Does that bother you? It does bother me a bit, yeah. I do try and stay focused, but it doesn't really happen very often.

0:57Or do you just embrace it? I need to not embrace it because I need to be more focused. Do you use AI? I try not to. Oh really? You don't want to? I feel like, especially with the stuff that I do, I try to steer clear of it. I use it for more like, I don't know, like a second opinion sometimes. Or like if I've had an idea or if I'm thinking of something, the creative side has to be me. Or like a person. and I don't like it to be AI. No, I totally agree with you. What about admin and stuff like that? I don't think I've explored it enough yet, to be honest. I just tend to try and stay clear of it as much as possible, but I do use it a little bit.

1:44What do you eat for lunch? It depends. If I'm at home, it's fairly standard. I tend to eat quite a lot of repetitive meals. If you're in town? If I'm in town, Farmer J's. You're absolutely all over Farmer J aren't you? Yeah I am at the moment. Have you got your own office? Just yeah we've just moved we're in a temporary office at the moment yeah while we're building up a studio which is amazing for like literally ages now like the last You're building your own studio? Yeah seven or eight months well we just we've transformed like a barn like stable into a studio. I suppose it's six or seven months yeah it's like just taking so long and I hate the construction side of things I like the interiors and the design and the creative part of it I've been like collecting stuff for the last seven months literally I'm like been looking forward to this end point it just never comes when it comes it'll be instantly full of stuff again how many people are coming to a party everyone everyone everyone's got to come how many people can you fit I don't know probably not that many boring if I'm listening to this and I want to come how do I get an invite it's exclusive become one of my clients there we go yeah yeah yeah I always find your content very confident and very bold and then I find when I talk to you personally you're like much more retiring much more like shy yeah it's true do you often get that I don't think I've got it in that way before but I know I'm an introvert and not the wrong setting necessarily because I can be I think a loads of creatives are yeah I think so I do get nervous around people as well like I'm not good at meeting new people and stuff so how do you overcome that thing because you have to meet a lot of people yeah I do I think in a work sense I know what I'm doing as in I know I'm there to do a job so it's a little bit easier in that way but it is a little bit more difficult when I haven't got that work side of things going on yeah but um I think you just have to like either sit there and be quiet or and be like unsociable or just just have to try don't you there's not really any option when you're in that situation how long ago did you set up it was like January officially it was January last year but I tried to set up like a few years back probably like four years ago now but it just didn't really work out at the time just i don't know it's just mindset and like i wasn't right really in the right sort of i don't know right stage of life and you've got a lesson from that yeah it's still data it's still a learning point and all that sort of thing because you've now actually become a really big name in like sort of creative office design no i'm like everywhere i go like you've got really like people know zach and like you've been nominated for this and like because people know you and they want to know more about you it's crazy honestly how it's like just suddenly just something clicks and it works out from one thing it can be one thing that changes everything which has in the industry everyone knows everyone so it's like everyone talks to everyone it's so good you're doing so well you actually hired your first yes member of the team so you're not a freelance anymore your little studio yeah it's been funny actually because after working like by yourself for so long like having someone else there yeah it's like complete change but it's also so good as we were saying about AI earlier I was gonna say actually like I feel like I've been using it less since I've had someone else with me because I can bounce ideas off them instead I feel like sometimes you need that little bit of confirmation of like yeah that's a good idea or that's crap idea yeah and that's like that's helped with having someone else if you had like a hundred grand to spend in your business what was one thing you'd do there's like a list of like people that I would like to have in the future I'd love to have like someone helping with the things that I don't necessarily feel like I'm as good at like I know my strengths are in certain areas within content but then there's also the thing of like because I know what I want it's difficult to get someone else involved mm-hmm because they're like slight everyone's different aren't they in the creative industry so you have to I don't know you have to teach them your ways but also you don't want to take away from their great creativity yeah exactly Zach who do you nominate for the next?

6:33I mean thank you about it but I think I was thinking of Rob Venice. Oh wicked!
