In short

A mini-series preview on how the “Mixology” 2025 Mix 30 Under 30 winners think about the next generation of workplace design—healthier, happier, more sustainable workplaces, shaped by COVID-era education and remote work experience.

Guests

A handful of the Mixology Class of 2025, the 30 Under 30 award winners (specific names not provided in the transcript).

Key claims

Younger workers prioritize longevity, well-being, sustainability, and “fresh thinking” over experience-only hiring; ambition should be embraced. Mentoring is two-way: young people may teach older leaders (e.g., AI skills via smartphones).

Notable examples

COVID graduates adapting to early peer-to-peer workplace relationships; AI learning; “immunity spaces” beyond desks; recruiter “two years’ experience” expectations.

0:07Hello and welcome to another episode of Space by Stansons. This is my first episode that I'm not with anybody, no talented designers, no amazing business owners, no workplace designers from massive global brands. So it feels, I now feel a bit self-conscious. So anyway, what I wanted to do is I wanted to frame our next mini series that's coming out that we're dropping. And it's really an insight into the next generation and how critically important that is to our businesses, our world, into creating healthier, happy workspaces and what that will do for us globally, really. but also within our workplaces and who and how we are.

0:52So I've actually got a handful, so blessed, so privileged to have a handful of the Mixology class of 2025, the 30 Under 30 award winners coming onto this show. I'm going to talk to them. I'm going to pair them up, talk to a few, and really just get inside them. What did they think when they got the award? Did they know about it? Like how they see the world becoming different, how they feel different coming into the workplace from maybe the older generation, what they will and won't be doing and that type of thing. Really just to get an insight, very casual chat, just to find out what this next generation have got on their hearts and their minds and how they feel.

1:43and that's going to really provide us as business owners as design directors as like workplace culture management people like heads of that that's going to provide us an insight into how this next generation actually think and feel right from their own mouths and i'm expecting to see things like sustainability being important these next this generation are not worried about the future it is them it's not the future for them it is what they have so it's not such a distant thing that's forefront of their mind i also think a lot of these people that i'll be talking to will actually have studied and got their degrees during covid so that have been doing remote working so bear that in mind like the challenges that that would have faced and then obviously coming out into the workplace maybe their first like or one of their early sort of peer-to-peer relationships in that format so that's huge um and i'm expecting to see like an interesting connection and um relationship and how how that kind of works how the workplace like fosters that and how it builds that and how it enables that like immunity spaces maybe not just like not just desks and well-being is a big thing people are now much more health conscious They're thinking about longevity.

3:02They're thinking about how they can be the best version of themselves. And so all of these things, I think, is what this next generation are going to be talking about. But I'm going to actually hear it from them, from their own mouths, and be able to question them and dig into that. So really excited. I think there are some things within you. I mean, it's a typical like recruiter like point, isn't it? Sort of come with a starter graduate junior position, but with two years of experience. And it's like, wow, like how when did we put so much value on experience rather than mindset and personal values and like deep core kind of beliefs?

3:48I get experience is important and I'm not against it myself in some aspects but then there also needs to be this fresh thinking and this new thinking and this like challenging thinking so we need to make way for that so I want to hear how they feel about that and I think that kind of goes into mentoring like segues nicely because we often talk about mentoring we talk about mentoring the young people and them coming into the office so we can help them become better humans. But hey, what about the other way around? What if they're mentoring us? What if they're showing us new ways to do it? They might be picking up their iPhone and showing you how to do something on AI that you didn't know.

4:26And so I think mentoring, instead of being a one-way channel, it's now become a two-way channel. So I want to hear that. I feel there's a massive amount of ambition in these jobs. They've had to really fight. It's really hard to get jobs for these people now. So you really have to fight. So to be in the mix 30 under 30, I'm expecting to see quite a level of ambition. And that shouldn't be seen as an aggressive or a bad thing. We should be embracing that and encouraging that. So that's massive too. So yeah, anyway, we've got the 30 under 30 coming on. Next week, the tears will drop and then the full episode will drop the week after and we'll be doing that probably till the end of the year.

5:09So tune in, follow the show, please, like and rate. We also have our magazine that goes out quarterly highlighting beautiful projects, the mix 30 under 30. It's just very loose. It's like a third party look at just what's happening in the industry. And so if you haven't got that, definitely drop a note in the comments subscribe to that that hard copy magazine or digital magazine the beautiful coffee table piece and then last but not least we're going to be releasing show notes for these um episodes too so you can drop in on our website census.co.uk and and sign up for those too but in the meantime have a good one and look forward to chatting with these 30 under 30
