In short
Trailer for The Bottleneck Podcast, focused on “bottlenecks” in business and talent, including flexible work vs returning to the office, and the importance of EQ over IQ.
Guest
Elfried, described as “fantastic and dope” and co-hosting the discussion.
Key claims
Social is framed as behavioral psychology at scale; bottleneck theory suggests that if a business relies on human talent, constraints (e.g., after age 30, it’s “impossible” to relocate from elsewhere in the UK to London) limit hiring—so freeing where/whom you can hire “unlocks a bottleneck.”
Notable examples
Gymshark’s social-driven hoodie marketing (customers buying hoodies) and product evolution to crop hoodies; an AI conversation about using ChatGPT/Perplexity for “deep research” (e.g., finding the best toaster specs).

Automatic transcript. May contain errors.0:00We've just wrapped on episode one of the bottleneck podcast, which takes as a kind of the motif the idea of bottlenecks with my fantastic and dope friend Elfried to discuss everything from flexible working versus back to the office and of course the importance of EQ rather than IQ. Yes there was an AI conversation. A lot of people are going to go to ChatGPT or Perplexity or another AI tool and say go find me the best toaster to buy. Do all the deep research and come back with specs. We used to work for a company called Gymshark that was very like social driven, who would see people buying hoodies and almost like cutting them up.
0:39And then we started to make crop hoodies, right? I actually describe social as behavioral psychology at scale. If we use bottleneck theory, if you're a business that relies on human talent, after the age of 30, it is more or less impossible for anybody to move from elsewhere in the UK to London, then anything that actually frees up who you can hire and where they can be, it's unlocking a bottleneck. And we're not talking about that nearly enough. It's going to be a dope conversation. What more could you answer for?
