20Hi, I'm Kelly Summers. Welcome along to The Wayne Rooney Show. This is the first of our best of episodes featuring some of the best moments from the series so far. We'll be back with new episodes in the new year, but for now, enjoy. The best holidays we used to have was in Butlands. We used to go to Butlands with the boxing club. Skegness? Yeah. Brilliant. Used to love it. We used to have a caravan at Chapel St. Lennon. Used to have the three tubes that had to be in different colours. What was the entertainment like? Proper turns. Mr. Tumbles there. Okay. I know that. Is he? I hate Mr. Tumble.
00Mate, he's not far behind you, money-wise. He's absolutely clear children's market. I was in the dressing room for match of the day. Did you meet Mr. Tumble? No, his dressing room was next to me. Justin, his name is in him. And the reason I hate him, I don't hate him because of him and what he does, is I've had to sit through it four times. That's the collab we need, Wayne Rooney and Mr. Tumble. I've been through him four times and it's got to a point now where I just can't he's the reason I got the snip will it I couldn't have another kid to go through it again Mr Tumble that's your headline Mr Tumble made me have the snip Wayne Rooney let's go back to the football no we could have created viral moments do you I remember years ago I went to Phil Knight's retirement dinner and it was surreal I think I was 19 and I went with Ian Rush because Ian Rush was the first football player to wear Nike boots.
02And I was like the young one up and coming. And then we got in there and there was Michael Jordan, LeBron James. There was, you know, all the top athletes from Nike over the years. So I spoke to LeBron a little bit there. And then he was, I think he was a year or two older than me. And then fast forward a couple of years, me and Colleen were in Las Vegas for our honeymoon which I know that's a bit strange Vegas for a honeymoon but it doesn't surprise me Wayne funnily enough if Wayne Rooney's going to go on holiday I'm not a honeymoon I'm not surprised it's Vegas the US Olympic basketball team come into this bar where we was and it was all cornered off and whatever so they're all there like Kobe Bryant was there LeBron all these like massive superstars and I went over because I'd seen LeBron it was in Portland the full night so because I'd spoke to him a few times I went over to say loan security please step away from the table so I was like okay so I went to the toilet so I'd come back and he'd see me and shout me over so we went over but anyway took all pictures I'll dig the pictures out for next time took all pictures with a few of the players and just pictures of me and Cleen in general throughout the night and I don't know whether it was my fault or their fault but every picture she had the straw stuck in her hair.
23So I've got all the pictures in the room but no, it was a good evening anyway, that's for sure. That's not a good start to married life if you haven't, that's the one thing you need to do as a husband, Wayne. Make sure your wife looks good in the photos, that's your job. Well, I took it that night, it was I think, we went to McDonald's and it was about 7am and as we're going, the McDonald's was closed so you could only go through the drive-thru. Did you walk through it? I was pushing her, it sounds a bit mad, I was pushing her in a shopping trolley. And so you've got a car in front, you've got me with Colleen in a shopping trolley and a car behind us, so we're going through the drive-thru with the shopping trolley.
02I'm going to guess you weren't sober at this point. Yeah, no, we had a boss night, so... And that was the only way we could get any food, so yeah. I played in the school game, was it this year or last year? It was this year, I don't know if it was this school year. it was me, Steve McMahon and Jag Yelker played against the teachers and then the whole school stood around the pitch and then you feel there's an expectation I actually dislocated one of the teachers shoulders
34I think he was a sub teacher I think and he played when he was young I think he worked at Man City and he was going round and he was trying to smash everyone the dads versus the teachers and he was just like shoulder badged and he's gone down he's gone up his shoulders down there so I felt really bad but kids were buzzing I was from the side I just couldn't really say but he was like no not that one the biology teacher Was it your favourite grudge match? He loved them all No I'd probably say the first couple of years at Man United against Arsenal because it was I arrived here after the ball attack Van Nistelrooy so for a couple of years years there that was and it was you know the the impetus get into one of alex fergus and then um there was a couple of scraps in the tunnel and stuff like that so um yeah that was that couple of years was was probably the best one talking about scraps in a tunnel i saw i saw emil husky in a podcast saying that you know the police actually come you know the police come to bellfield really yeah the police come to battlefield and and um ask me questions on that so yeah i was i was hard my knuckle at the time but um yeah did they just come and ask for you to sign their shirt no they were coming asking me what happened in the tunnel obviously in turkey tell us what happened then um there was there was a bit of a fight and And yeah, and that was it.
06So... You didn't say no? No. No. Okay, so like, so okay, yes. When things were kicking off in a tunnel with like, when you were playing Arsenal or Chelsea, what was going through your mind at that point? Were you like, oh, I need to go out and like, smash one of these as soon as I get on the pitch? But no, it was obviously after the game when it went off in the tunnel. I was actually out there in me underpants. because I'd gone in and took me shorts and that off and yes I was out there in my underpants yeah and then the next game obviously we found out it was Fabregas obviously with one of Peter Alex Ferguson so yeah the next game there was a few players targeting him the thing was with that was we got back in the dressing room and the manager come in and you know he was an old man do you know what I mean and he was shaken he was shaken by it and so and I think sometimes you forget because of football you forget but you know he's obviously getting on in age and he come in he was shaken by it so I think it's then you realise you know it's football and it's not easy and it's not nice for him to experience that so we obviously try and protect him then Yeah what was how did the was there like a feeling amongst the players you said you felt that then did the other players.
34Yeah, everyone, you know, you wouldn't like that done to your granddad or, you know, someone of that age, especially, you wouldn't like that to happen to them. So, yeah, we felt we had a duty to protect him. Would he survive in there, do you think? Because obviously he was linked this year. He said he wouldn't do it. I think he'd be okay. But what I don't think he'd cope with is going out to trials and stopping and stuff. He'd get fed up with all that. That's the hardest bit. It is the hardest bit, that. Yeah. He'd be like, oh, no, I'm not doing that. Yeah. Because they have to, like, interview you.
08So you're, like, getting interviewed. Then they say, can you do that again? And it's all, like, where he hasn't really got the patience for that. He likes to just get things done. And you're knackered. You're hungry. You're starving. Yeah. It is. That is the hardest bit. You're right there. You're right. It just depends who's in there with me. If one person was doing my head in then. To be fair, though, if you're good at napping, it sounds like you'd be able to pass the time. because boredom is something that I've heard a lot of people talk about. Yeah, so obviously I'd be quite bored, I think, to watch.
38Because you'd just be asleep. But not if you were put in there with a couple of good people. Yeah, no, but I'd be like, just leave me alone. It's probably a relief for the casting producers that you didn't want to go in there. I'd love to see you doing a trial. It'd be so fun, wouldn't it? I think I'd be right at the trials. It depends what trials. You're not going to do it water, though. Mates, don't tell me about snakes, man. That was rough. I think that was my worst one, that end one. That end one. Because you had the snakes in your trousers, didn't you? Yeah, mate. Yeah. You found a beanbag and got comfy.
18How many times have you told that, Jake, since? No, it's the first one. I've heard a few things, but you haven't ate beanbags. That was sketchy, though. That was. Because he was cold. Yeah, yeah. It was weird. I was like, I think you're scared, weren't I? Mate, yes. Because you didn't look like it when it went on. Well, I was in there, right? And they'd taken all the other snakes out and one had done a big dump next to my shoulder, so it stung. I was like, oh, no, he's f***ed himself. And then, so I'm in there still and the ranger comes in and he opens the door. He goes, right, come on out now.
50And I'm going, mate, no, no, I can't. There's one in there. And he's like laughing, going, no, no. No, no. And he's pulling me out. like that and I was like no you know and then I undid it and he started pulling it out and it was massive go on Wayne explain it no I think I was 14 I signed a deal with Ford and used to give my dad a Ford Galaxy but I didn't realise that in the contract when I passed my driving test my first car had to be a Ford so yeah nothing wrong with that I had a nice like purpley Ford Ka with a personalised number of plates and I remember then And a few months later, I was driving a Ford and Cleen was in a BMW X5.
36What was that realisation like? I bet you were going through like, I'm going to get a Mercedes, I'm going to get a BMW. And then your agent comes out and goes, actually, Paul. Yeah, no, listen, it was a nice car. I actually upgraded it after a couple of months to a Ford Ka convertible as well. I never thought this was something we'd have in common, Wayne. My first car was a Ford Ka. Was it? As well. Man was a Ford Fiesta So looks like we've all got the same The difference is that was all we could afford We had no choice Listen when you're When you're that age You pass your driving test You just want to drive any car Did you pass first time Wayne?
18I passed me I had three lessons Three lessons you passed a driving test What? I've never heard anyone do that I'm sure the fellow who took me test was at Everton Fenn. Oh, okay. So you couldn't actually drive, but you had a driving license. Oh, yeah. No, I could drive. I could drive. It was okay.

12Talking about boxing for my wedding. You know the story with Joe Calzaghi. So I was looking after Joe at the time. And so Joe came to the wedding. Wayne's there, of course. Yeah. And we've had a few drinks. You know what to call it? He offers Joe calls. Hang it out. So he says, I'm sitting there talking to them both. And he goes, all right, Joe. Hi, Wayne. Good to have you. I said, I'm looking. I think you're joking me. On my wedding day. He's going to say, just calm down. I just want to do a bit of shadow boxing with him. So we go out. And we go on to the green outside where we were. But this is still at your wedding?
56The middle of my wedding. So we go out. We go out and I said to Joe, like Joe's going, yeah, yeah, don't worry, it's nothing. So he goes out. First thing, so Joe's just sort of stood there, easing to the ribs.
19That's bad enough saying it to any book, let alone someone who went undefeated their whole career. Yeah, exactly. I think Monson's fighter Britain's ever produced. I've seen him, he was a bit vulnerable. He'd had a few things. He might give us first defeat. I'm thinking Joe's going to react. As a fighter, he never reacted to stuff like that, but he only just challenged the greatest fighter Britain's ever produced. Do you know what I mean? Fantastic. No, it was good. But that's Wayne, eh? It is. He's lively. and yeah, he's even more lively if he's had a pint. As most men are, to be honest, to be fair.
54We're all the same. We're all children who have never really grown up. It's a busy old week, isn't it? I actually love the last week of the transfer window. I particularly love this transfer window in general. It's felt like we've had loads of drama. But we thought we could rewind the clock back and reminisce on a certain transfer. One of the biggest in Manchester United's history, some could say, Kay, when Wayne Rooney signed for Manchester United. Oh yeah, you're saying as if you kind of forgot it ever happened. Yeah. No, do you know what was the funniest thing about that was? It was sort of, it was rumoured that it was happening anyway throughout the whole summer after the Euros.
32But it was on deadline day that it randomly happened. But I was glued to the TV that whole day just watching it and seeing like different footage and Wayne going into United with his crutches on and stuff as well. So it was just like every two minutes, You're just like looking at it, waiting for another update. It wasn't like now where you've got like 13 journalists reporting on like every aspect of it. So it was like you tried to get everything you could. But what was actually like going through it, Wayne? Do you know what? I was quite chilled. I was at the time, there was a lot of press time to follow me around and stuff.
09So I was actually staying in Colleen's Uncle's in Liverpool with Colleen. and the night before deadline day we sat in we had the Chinese a few glasses of wine you really were chilled and then I actually had no clothes there so the jumper that I signed for Manchester United was Cleaned Cousins Jumper so so yeah it shows how prepared I was for it what we all want to know is what was on that Chinese order as well though Wayne I don't know probably it probably will have been like salt and pepper chicken wings salt and pepper chips oh no chips from a Chinese I don't get it go to a chippy go and get fish and chips if you want chips yeah but they're not they're Chinese chips how come how come it got left so late though it it was just rumbled on and I think even being honest I think Alex Ferguson wanted to wait another year and then Newcastle kept coming in and I would have went to Newcastle if United didn't sign me then.
16Cool. And then it got to the last day and Bill Kenwright wouldn't send the forms over. And Bill, obviously, God rest him, is very emotional. And obviously, I'm a local lad from Liverpool playing for Everton. It was massive. And he actually got on the phone, put his mum on the phone to me when I was at Old Trafford. Then he got on the phone, he was crying down the phone and we're literally like, Bill, please just send us. There's one document he had to send over and eventually he did just in time. At what point do we start looking at the table and taking it seriously? I think Christmas. As players, when do you start looking at it?
57It depends where you are really. At Man United, we used to always think if we're in the round at Christmas, then we've got a good chance of winning the league. and then we used to do mini pre-season in January which seemed crazy at the time so you'd do it and... What do you mean by that? So we'd do like a two-week pre-season and we'd go into games absolutely knackered because of the work we were doing but Alex Ferguson would turn around and say this will help us come the last few weeks of the season and normally it did. Fergie used to do mad stuff like that. I remember once it was like a friendly mid-season because he'd promised somebody at Aberdeen or something like that.
39It was crazy. We played a testimonial game in Saudi years ago. And as players, we didn't know who he was. It was like a Saudi legend. But after playing a testimonial game... This United bunch, particularly at the time, were like, whatever Sir Alex did, they didn't question it, they just did it. They gave us all these big massive swords as a gift. Just when I think your stories can't get more ones, they do. Like, really expensive swords. Where is it? Have you still got it? We couldn't get on the plane. So I wonder where they are now. It's the biggest waste of time. Oh, my God. Is there a photo of you with them?
17You've got a photo of everything. I'm not sure. Did you put on the outfits and stuff as well? Yeah. Oh, well, I need to see these photos, man. Wayne's got a photo of everything. We've had Colleen in a shopping trolley. We've got to have a photo of that. And then I've got the one on my phone there, of me and Rio, actually. Oh, wow. I've got a virtual voice for that. See, Wayne Rooney. No one was going to get our swords back. Alex Ferguson was the only one who got it back. I didn't think I'd start this podcast in here. I didn't get my swords back. Okay, well, let's move on. Because, Wayne, you've mentioned it a few times.
50You are in Korea. You played in midfield, which is a headline in itself, I think. But how's your trip been and how was the game? Yeah, it's been great. We've had some funny days. But what day are we on now? Sunday night. I think you were in the early... Hold on, what time is it? Yeah, so I'm Monday morning. I'm like 3.30 Monday morning now. Commitment. So yesterday before the game, Jason Park played for us. And so he took us out in the morning to a Korean karaoke. So there was me, Kara Schweinsteiger, Vidage and Jason Park. I'm sat in this room and they played the song and the actual singer of the song come in.
35and was singing it to us and it was so awkward like what were you meant to do and then the second one put the second song on the singer that one come on and he was very extravagant and there was a song called Honey Honey which he changed to Rooney Rooney Very good so yeah it was very awkward and then the day before we G Sun Park again took us out for some Korean food for lunch and to all try some Korean school uniform on, which was quite strange. I had so many questions about those photos because people have seen them doing the rounds on social media. Kay, I imagine you've seen them as well. Yeah, I saw one where you had your hand up in the air like that and you were looking at the sky.
22It's so awkward and cringy. Do you know what? I think just for G-sung Park, we've all done it. We love them that much. we all said okay we all just do it and we all knew how cringy and how bad it looked why was Rio tiptoeing yeah sorry we've got so many questions we're firing them at you I don't know well I didn't put the trousers on I said I'll put the shirt and the jacket and the tie on you didn't tuck your shirt in I noticed I went for the naughty school school boy look so I went for that look I actually got up years ago on stage with 50 Cent at the MEN you're joking I played a festival with him in Glasgow this summer actually I think you mentioned that yeah I got up I think I was about 18 or something he's 50 now you know 50 Cent I played a festival in Glasgow this year I was on the same stage as him and I'd never seen an entourage like him and it was that hot so we had like this I know it's not Biggie but he's got a maiden massive they call him Biggie I see one of his security guards he was big enough like but they had like this you've probably been backstage at festivals and that normally like they have like a big hut for all the artists to do it on like the main stage but then the headliner has their own compound like dead close to the stage but it was like July sweating and next thing I just keep seeing all these people running around and stealing fans and we had this like two big blow fans for the community and one of them got wheeled out and I was like where's all the fans going mate like but we're awesome he was like I have 50 cents requested every fan on site and there was I think it meant the people not the actual fans there was a young lad bless him he was like I think he was like the one getting the pressure to get the fans and he was just like knocking on doors any fans in here mate you know what I mean it was mad I can't wait to be that big one that hopefully that I can demand all the fans well I had backstage at Glastonbury we stayed in Warn Lakes oh yeah so we stayed it went on the lakes and then when we went over so i can't remember who was on cold play were on and um walking out i was desperate to the toilet i think oh man so i've gone in the toilet and the toilet glass be absolutely horrendous the worst i've ever seen and then anyway it got speaking to marcus munford oh yeah so i went back into the um artist area right next to the pyramid stage and I've only got my own Winnie Bagel there which I had no idea so I've seen one with Rooney on I was like who's that?
02That's yours this is on the last day as well So you've been there the whole weekend? I've been there the whole weekend yeah and I had no idea I've been squatting down in the toilet I'm an artist and I have to dig tunnels to get into that bit you know what I mean? Honestly I was going down to the toilet getting lost everywhere they have me on one and like with a dead nice toilet as well an air con and all of that what did you do on stage with 50 yeah can we go back to that I don't know what song was it just you how does this come about so they just asked would we go on stage and he'll just who's we it was me and Rio oh ok they asked would we go on stage so we were obviously thinking he's just gonna say oh we've got Man United players and whatever so anyway we've got yeah no problem I think we both had a few drinks as well so we've got to the stage so before we've gone on he gives us a mic each and then I'm thinking what's that really so then as we're walking on 50 Cent's walked off so we're just on the stage me and Bill like what is going on here so we're like so then obviously so then so then I've just gone oh you know what doesn't matter so I've gone to the front and I've gone cha cha cha you know oh mate I was just thinking who was and then Rio was just stood there did everyone go mad when you said to your unit yeah it was probably the best thing you could have said and then the rest of it was just a bled yeah no it was mad what's it like doing your coaching badges did you start doing them while you were still playing or were you yeah well I actually started them when I was like 19 or 20 oh wow and then I stopped didn't have the time obviously with playing and stuff and then went back to them is it quite a lot like I know it sounds stupid but is it quite a lot of commitment to get them all it's what about 8 years oh wow yeah there was one we done for the pro license we got the cast of Les Miz in it was amazing what no because they have to recruit the kids so obviously when the voice breaks and stuff them kids are no longer of use so they need to get more kids in so they have a whole recruitment team for the kids and stuff so they talked it through all that and the different managers for different parts of the show and then at the end you've got a dude that's actually laying a song and dancing do it hold on for your coaching badges it's to put you in an uncomfortable position how did you find that?
43are you good at dancing? god this is going to go really left field now no who had the worst song and dance? Jonathan Woodgate was next to me, mate. He was loving him. You said you like musicals. Yeah, I do, but not playing them. I like watching them. Yeah, because it's a bit different. Hold on. Do you have to get up individually and do it? Or like you're working together to do like a performance together? Are you working together? So it's the song in Les Mis at the end of the day, is it? And then we're all like creeping forward and stuff. No way. Honestly. why is there not footage of this well I'll just tell you one story before I go Jufy's out the Friday night right so I'm coming in Saturday we're playing at home and we've got a phone call Jufy's out so Jufy comes in and I said you were out last night no I wasn't Gaffer you were out last night no I wasn't you were I said even worse you were in Bolton instead of Manchester I said I know you're out because only you can afford Louis Ronda Cristel nobody else in Bolton can so he'd been buying all his chums Louis Ronda Cristel so everybody's saying you've got to drop him so I said you've got half an hour what do you mean I said you've got half an hour and if you're if you're playing bad I'm going to bring you off put the sub on and go to the go to the press and say I found out he was out on a Friday night Man of the match That's it for this episode of The Wayne Rooney Show A reminder you can catch up on all the episodes you might have missed On the BBC Sport YouTube page, The iPlayer or on BBC Sounds See you next time
41Great play design I think you just have to go out there and be the best that you can be. We're going to go out there and lay it all on the line. 12-yard touchdown run. 105 yards on the return. Where speed, power, and skill collide. And the Eagles have beaten the Chiefs convincingly in Super Bowl 59. Five lives for NFL. Listen on BBC Sounds.

Christmas is a time of reflection and so here at The Wayne Rooney Show, we’ve decided to give you the best moments from the show so far.
Wayne opens up about a surprisingly strong grievance with Mr Tumble, before rewinding to a star-studded party in the US that took an unexpected turn when he ended the night pushing Coleen through a drive-thru… in a shopping trolley.
Football rivalry takes centre stage as Wayne reflects on the Manchester United vs Arsenal feud, including exactly what happened in Pizzagate. He also imagines how he’d cope in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here and reacts to Danny Jones’ close encounter with a snake and find out why Wayne offered out Joe Calzaghe at a wedding.
The stories keep coming as Wayne explains how he tried to bring swords home from Saudi Arabia, recalls a surreal trip to South Korea where he ended up dressed in a school uniform alongside Rio Ferdinand and Bastian Schweinsteiger, and remembers the moment he and Rio somehow found themselves on stage with 50 Cent.
You can watch The Wayne Rooney Show on BBC Sport YouTube, iPlayer, as well as listen on BBC Sounds.
