0:00I never got in the Irish Sea because it was freezing. now every time I come home I'm jumping in when I started with MTV I was on a plane most weeks I had to get used to London at first I do I love London it's my home now and I have my group but Irish people talk to everybody so I had I remember getting on the bus in London jumping off the bus and saying thank you bus driver because that's what you do and he looked at me like I was trying to mug him we went to Bali which is stunning but we were working in Hong Kong at a music festival and we're like well we're heading this way anyway so let's hop over to Bali in October, which is monsoon season.

0:39Welcome to Travel Secrets with me, Tanya Rose, the podcast sharing wisdom for fellow travelers. Each week, I ask my guests to reveal their six travel secrets and the holidays and adventures that surround them.

0:59today my guest is the lovely Laura Whitmore Irish TV presenter model author actor and journalist well known for hosting shows like Love Island my son was very pleased when I told him that I was interviewing you today I'm a celebrity get me out of here now I know that was about 10 years ago now the longest title ever. Now, now, now. And your wonderful documentary series, which are just fantastic, Laura Whitmore Investigates. You were in a West End debut of 2.22 A Ghost Story. And at the moment you're touring a wonderful play, The Girl on a Train. Big fan of that book as well. Still doing that. It's nice to sit still.

1:39I bet it is. Because I feel I move a lot. I know we're going to be talking about moving, but it's nice to sit still. Thanks Tani for having me sit down. It's so lovely to have you. I'm sure you've got some fantastic travel secrets. But before we get into them perhaps you can just tell us a little bit about yourself and how travel has impacted the person you've become it's what when I heard about like you know this show and travel shows it's for me I am that traveler I always I can't sit still so the only way you'll get me to sit still is to talk about moving and I and I am very blessed because of my career I've traveled a lot I think um Irish people in general I think most of us are probably outside of Ireland no matter where I go in the world I find an Irish person so I think culturally um we are a little bit nomadic and we're constantly on the move uh but my first job ever um was when I entered a competition to be the face of MTV and I won that was that pick me pick me MTV and I am moved from I met moved for a year from London to London um from Dublin and it was only supposed to be for one year it's about 15 years ago and even with that I remember having to like didn't know anybody I moved over to here and my producer called me up my like first day in London saying we're going to send you off to LA because you're doing the video music awards so I didn't even so I was never even in London I was like sent off to LA or New York or to all these different places going to different music festivals so I've been traveling for a while now constantly and you love it and I love it and I'm still in London are your family still in Dublin they are I've got I'm very lucky I'm very blessed we've only got the Irish sea between us.

3:16I've got a lot of friends. A lot of, as I said, Irish people travel a lot. Some of my best friends are in Australia or in America. For me, it's just a hop over the pond to get back home. And did you grow up traveling with your parents? Yeah, I grew up in just my mom. So it was like a single parent house home, but I was still very close to my dad. So I spent every second weekend with my dad. So I was always very used to kind of moving about and traveling around. My mom is the youngest of 13. Yes, very Irish. So like I'd always been cousins houses or so I was always, you know, I always loved kind of looking up to my older cousins and staying with them.

3:51I'm very lucky to have my dad in my life, even though I didn't live with him, that he brought me away to places on holidays when I was younger. So I was always constantly on the move. Excellent. And you continue to do so. And continue to do so. So, yeah, to this day, I always feel like I like, if I ever get, like, feeling a bit itchy, I just, like, jump on a plane or jump on a train or go somewhere. Aren't we lucky that we can do that? We can do that, yeah. It's amazing. Thank you for watching Travel Secrets. I hope you're enjoying it as much as I'm enjoying doing it. Please take a second and subscribe now.

4:25Well, let's get into your travel secrets. So, what's the number one destination you think everyone should go to once in their lifetime? I am so biased now. You know what I'm going to say? I'm going to say Ireland. Ireland. I'm going to say it's so obvious, but it's, I think as well, I think as an Irish person that doesn't live in Ireland, you appreciate it more. Sometimes when it's there on your doorstep, you don't really appreciate what's, like I grew up by the sea, like right on the sea, Bray County, Wicklow. And I never got in the Irish Sea because it was freezing. Now every time I come home, I'm jumping in.

4:56Are you? Yeah. But now it's a thing, isn't it? Cold water. Yeah. Cold water. I think everyone watched Bad Sisters as well. because there's a scene where they jump off at the 40 foot, which is near where I'm from. And I have a place near there. And now it's like, it's like a trendy thing to do. Well, back then it was just freezing. So yeah, so no, I'm going to say Ireland. I'm going to say I'm from Wicklow, which is beautiful. If no one's ever been to the West Coast of Ireland, you know, starting from like Mayo down to, I spent a lot of summers in Galway, but even going down to the Ring of Kerry, because what's so stunning about that is that it's the Atlantic Ocean.

5:30So you're kind of looking out and the next stop is America. So there's a whole lot of ocean and it's really the most beautiful landscape. Yeah. I mean, I love, love Ireland, but I love the Irish people. Yes. And I love going to an Irish pub because you just have such a laugh. I had to get used to London at first. I do. I love London. It's my home now and I have my group, but Irish people talk to everybody. So I had, I remember getting on the bus in London, jumping off the bus and saying, thank you, bus driver, because that's what you do. and he looked at me like I was trying to mug him I was like oh we don't we don't talk okay sorry that's like Crocodile Dundee you know when he arrived in New York he was saying hello to yeah good day yeah good day to everyone there's a lunatic here but I miss that I do I do miss that um I'm still gonna say thank you to the bus driver oh absolutely and Dublin do you know yeah yeah because Wicklow is just like I'm kind of I tell people who don't know Ireland well I'm from Dublin but I'm from Wicklow my dad lives in Dublin and I have a place in Dublin and I'm very lucky the play that I'm doing I'm bringing to Dublin which I might have been part of the decision to bring it to Dublin um but I also think you know theatre in Ireland and the storytellers that we have when you look at Irish people and how they're doing at the moment um yeah it's fab we're we're we like to talk yes which we do well on a podcast yes you do well on the podcast and um there was a lovely hotel i think it's still there and still very lovely is the merion i got married there well actually i didn't get married in the merion but we stayed in the merion and and it's one of the most beautiful hotels i've also been to many a party in the merion it's very lovely it's a lovely place and the other place that i love is a shop in dublin which is the louise kennedy shop i know louise very well i love her things she's and she's she lives her shop is around merion square and it's like yeah she's um she's got some beautiful pieces yeah and it's like a house isn't it's the mizzle I go in there and I'm like I wish my house was like this but my house is a lot messier I bet her house is like that yeah because when you meet her she is impeccable from top to toe yeah but I fear I'm very proud to be an Irish um woman because I've got so many great Irish role models and women that I kind of grew up watching um and business women like Louise or Mary Robinson who was the first uh Irish uh president of Ireland and what she stood for so So I'm a proud Irish woman.

7:53Proud Irish. And there are two other lovely hotels that I love in Ireland. Ballyfin. Yeah. Beautiful. I haven't stayed there. It's absolutely beautiful. And then the K Club I love as well. Yeah. I feel bad. I've been to the K Club. I don't play golf or anything. I'm that into golf, but everyone else is there. But I appreciate a lovely hotel room. And actually, when I had Dominic West on this podcast, it was so funny because his wife is Irish. Oh, yeah. And she has Glyn Castle. Yes. and apparently the Kardashians wanted to stay at Glynn Castle and she said, no, no, it's not open. Go to Ballyfinn.

8:25So Ballyfinn was delighted. Yeah, because she got married to Kanye over there or they went on their honeymoon over there. They went on their honeymoon, yeah. But I think then Dominic was like, what do you mean you turned the Kardashians down? I like that. She was like, yeah, I don't want to. No, can't. It's not ready. It's not ready. It's not ready. It's not ready. It doesn't matter who you are. So what's the most unexpected travel experience you've ever had? Well, this is interesting because I think I can kind of go either way. I can say either I was like unexpected in a good way or a bad way.

8:55So, I mean, there's so, I've traveled so many, like I had to actually think about where I've been because sometimes I forget. When I started with MTV, I was on a plane most weeks. So I could fly to, I've done music festivals in Norway. um you know I'd be going to I remember I went to I was I was away at there's a music festival a ski music festival called snow bombing and I was there then I got a call to interview Daniel Craig on set of James Bond in Mexico so then I flew to Mexico for the night for the night yeah to do the interview so a lot of the times I wouldn't necessarily see the place yeah and it's only kind of now I'm like I must go back there or what I used to do is bring a pair of trainers with me so in the morning we'd try to run around the city just to kind of get a little bit of a look around but what I'm going to say is unexpected so I remember kind of I hate saying in a bad way but I remember going to um Niagara Falls and thinking this is going to be one of my breathtaking views I think I'd built it up so much in my head and I went to it and I was a bit like done by how touristy it was I don't know if you've been but it's very very touristy and then I think recent but just before that I'd been to Snowdonia like in Wales and I was like their waterfalls are just as good and I'm so and I think we're very blessed unless we don't realize what we have on our doorstep and because I'd seen all these pictures and it's been in films it's been in the Superman film and it's I just thought it was going to be this really beautiful and it is like it is beautiful but I think it'd be built up and it almost been ruined by the landscape by being too touristy and it was just so many pews and things being sold um and yeah I'd spent some time in Snowdonia and if you've never been it's so close yeah and the most breathtaking natural um water and it was about three waterfalls that we went to visit just by accident because we saw a sign what were you doing there and we were on our way back from Ireland via Hollyhead and actually we ended up having an accidental honeymoon there because it was during lockdown and we had planned to go further afield and afterwards we ended up doing some trips later down we went to the Bahamas with our very small baby because we had a baby soon after and um we went to the Maldives but we actually we ended up having to go quite local because we were in Ireland and there was different rules and I don't I was like this is right here in our doorstep so we just got off the ferry and just drove around Snowdonia stayed in a place called Palais Hall I believe it's called like there's loads of castles as well yeah lots of castles loads of castles just popping up everywhere as you do and what did you say an unexpected unexpected honeymoon an unexpected honeymoon and we're like okay well guess we're having it here um and it was lovely um and yeah and sometimes you kind of think you have to travel really far to get those experiences and you don't have to you don't and actually that takes us nicely on to the most underrated place you've been have you been somewhere other than snowdonia which you thought was going to be amazing um or wasn't amazing so overrated or underrated well i think i think the overrated was probably the um negra falls which i feel bad like it is it's because you build it up so much in your head um i find so what i do quite a lot i'm quite spontaneous as a person which is which worked well with um my mtv i was i worked for mtv for seven years so I'd get a call going do you want to go to Mexico and I'd say yes amazing and so you'd end up with these unexpected trips that you constantly do and you'll just say yes to um we did a trip uh across America my husband and I in 2019 little did we know that was like going to be the last trip for a while yeah uh and I didn't have uh my child then which was actually worked out well because then it wasn't going out for a while.

12:45And we started in San Francisco and we drove across America to Boston. Oh my goodness. And I used to live in Boston. Yeah, so I studied in Boston. So it wasn't the route that people normally do Route 66. So they start down in LA. And then they go. Yeah, and it's kind of you do it a bit lower down. But I was like, I've never done San Francisco. Boston's up here. Okay. So we, yeah, but we didn't have a plan. So it was quite unexpected. Some of the places that we ended up going through. How long did it take? Well, the problem was we had a, it had to take, it had to take 14 days, 15 days, because we had a flight back to London and we'd rented it.

13:27We'd rented a convertible. And when we returned it in Boston, it had a lot of mileage. So we just, but we're quite, both of us are quite free spirit. So we said, let's see what happens. we do certain points we wanted to stop at some times we drove faster than other times like let's not stop here and other times we stopped so um we found some real beauties along the way where were your favorite places you went to we went to so i've i've been to vegas quite a lot with work or with like you know i've seen you two play the 360 and the dell and um i remember doing a last minute trip Calvin Harris was DJing and my friend was working with him and but me and my husband had this thing that we wanted to go to Reno because it's the can I say like kind of like a shit version of Vegas but I'd seen it in Sister Act because that's where she's from so I was like I was like fuck it let's go to Reno but we but on the way there we went up Blasier's Point and we went you know there was the most beautiful like natural reserves and we'd spent some time up there and then we went to Reno and we had the most hilarious time um and then we ended up driving through like take lake taco which wasn't planned either we found a hotel nearby and we kind of had a little pit stop there um and just the vastness it's just so big it is so big actually you forget that because most of us do new york la yeah and then there's the middle bit middle bit which is i mean like some states we might have driven faster than other states but um but then also i remember we we stopped off at mount rushmore at like 10 o 'clock at night go we better get a picture here get a picture the founding fathers quick let's go um so yeah that was was and we ended up staying in wyoming for four days which wasn't supposed to be but because we're in this like really like the most majestic rustic like natural like there was bears outside we found there was like bears outside and and i don't i'm not i'm not i'm a city girl so it just felt we were very lucky a friend of ours has a house there and they they saw our trip and they're like do you want to stay in the house I was like yeah and so there was lots of things that kind of happened go to a dude ranch or anything like that in Wyoming no no no no how lovely but yeah it's just quite unexpected some of the places we went to let's talk about food and drink it's so much part of travel it's so much part of our lives we're also obsessed with food and drink what do you like eating what don't you like eating where's your best meal best cocktail let's just talk about Oh my God, let's talk about cocktails.

15:52I'm a pescatarian, so I love fish. I think I would probably be vegetarian if I didn't love fish so much. I think that's growing up in Ireland. I've been to like the oyster festivals and like, you know, shucking the oysters and mussels. And I just think when you live by the coast, you get the best of that. So anytime I'm working somewhere where I'm by the sea, it's like fresh fish, fresh ingredients. um and so i've eaten i've eaten so many lovely places over the years um and again that's the joys of with travel you get to try all these things the best restaurant that i've been to um i was actually talking to my friend uh alex i call her critch for short um but i worked with her on mtv and we went last night to alanis marset oh yeah and she said to me um because i said i'm doing a travel podcast tomorrow and she said well I hope you I hope you say something nicer about me this time and I was like what did I say before she went oh you did Alan Carr's Life's a Beach and you mentioned our trip being one of the worst trips and I was like which trip because we worked together so we were always traveling and I said what did I say and and actually I did mention it I do remember now we went to Bali which is stunning but we were working in Hong Kong at a music festival and we're like we're well we're heading this way anyway sure let's hop over to Bali um in October which is monsoon season we're and I again I had a friend a friend of a friend who said oh I know someone there's there's a house there you guys can stay in it's like if it's 16 people but no one's there now because nobody comes that time of year because it's monsoon so the two of us were in this massive place where it was just like absolutely pissing it down outside so I think I mentioned on the podcast with Alan that we went on this trip where it just rained the whole time um however the best food I ever had was there so I'm gonna turn things around a little bit you'll be very happy to hear it you're welcome Critch um so we we traveled around a little bit we went to Ubud yeah um and there's a place there's a restaurant called Mosaic um which they use all the natural like you know the veg that's grown in their garden so the menu changes quite regularly and I remember just tasting I remember as it was raining outside we were kind of outside but we were covered and it was just I can't even describe what I had I found a picture of it recently because I was trying to even look at what it was but it was like star fruit and it was very colorful and it almost like quenched you know that like when you eat and you bite into something you can feel the juice and it's so juicy um but the menu changes constantly because it just depends on what they've grown yeah and so I'm saying that was probably the most yeah it was very special and when you did Love Island was that in Mallorca it moved around a bit so I did the first one I did was the winter one so that was in South Africa and so I that was on so we flew into Cape Town but I'd done another show the previous year called Survival of the fittest in johannes actually north of johannesburg called impopo which is very different again so we're in south africa for that one then majorca one of the well actually one of my favorite restaurants in majorca is a place called espati that i went to with ian again the menu changes depending on i love that when you go somewhere and there's no it depends on what ingredients they've got so much nicer because then it's fresh and and any anywhere you buy the water you know you're going to have the best fish um so espati is another one actually in major i recommend and what was survival of the fittest survival of the fittest was another tv show i did i forget sometimes some of the shows i've hosted um it was um we did it in it was an itv show again reality but it was girls versus boys it wasn't like a love dating thing it was like that i mean that happens naturally anyway when you put single people together but it was guys versus girls and it was for me it was i've never worked i've worked in studios a lot and i've worked on location but we actually filmed that in a nature reserve so it was a reserve where rather than so i worked in i'm a celebrity get me out of here and it's a it's a safe environment so um yes the snakes and stuff but everyone's no one's ever in danger well when we filmed this show we were in the animals land so i'd wake up and there'd be zebras outside or you know there'd be you don't leave your room and and and I as somebody who doesn't eat meat this was difficult I had a lot of pap we had pap it's like a potato a lot of pap um so the food was yeah that was that was yeah so when I went to Cape Town I was like there was definitely more choice when it came to food and actually the food in South Africa is amazing yeah I did that garden route so from Cape Town up to Hermanus and Plettenberg Way.

20:47It's the most wonderful drive. And I came back and I said to my husband, I want to buy a house in South Africa. And he was like, you went to sign a new hotel contract. What are you doing buying a house? And I said, no, no, I want to buy a house because the wine's lovely. The food is lovely. Oh, yes. And he said, it's Stellenbosch and just get on that train, the wine train. Amazing. Yeah. He was not having any of it. Oh, well, yeah. I'm sure he'll change. He could change his mind. No, no. I think that was gone. I loved it, but no, definitely not. Rather have the Cotswolds now. Okay. what's good though about South Africa is the time difference yes it's because it's pretty much the same as here um so that was because I I worked in Australia for five years like only for two months of the year and the times was it's really hard I've got my best friend still lives there and trying to speak to the other side of the world is really difficult what did you do in Australia so that was I'm a celebrity so that yeah so we worked on that show over there but your time zones are all over the place yeah and it's such a long way to get there it's a long way to get there I don't mind traveling because I I quite enjoy a plane that's like actually I was going to ask you what's your top travel tip I've picked up a few over the years I I'm much better at like I travel quite light people would be surprised I don't overpack um leave space to get stuff because I always come back with like trinkets for markets and um and my house is like filled with it but um uh and I'm always very open to I think I mentioned like being quite spontaneous is there is there's a few little tips so okay what I'm going to say is one is an app I found which works in works in most countries um and it's called hotel tonight and actually I don't even know if these this group is on it because there's a lot of like five-star hotels on it but they don't tell you what so it could be any hotel loads of hotels are on it and I've ended up in places where I haven't got to my final destination or last minute trip and you go on the app you say what area you're in and they're like there is so many rooms left in this five-star hotel or so many rooms left in this four-star but it doesn't tell you we don't tell you what the hotel is but we'll tell you the area um and I have done that and got a room for next to nothing in a very fancy room in a very fancy hotel and we did that when we traveled across America I've done it in other countries across Europe um Hotel Tonight Hotel Tonight I did it in Vegas when I I did a trip on the day to Vegas, got to Vegas, realized I didn't have a hotel.

23:08Went down hotel tonight, had a very lovely suite in Caesars, which I didn't know. So yeah, that was a little tip that, and you can get a very, very, very good prices. That's amazing. And traveling light, you're a good packer. Yeah, I think traveling light because there's nothing worse than like just having too much stuff. I just think, um, just have the basics, um, as much as you need because you'll always forget something. and you never wear everything you never wear anything you'd always pick up something new or you'll always when I go with my girlfriends um like on girls holidays it's been a while we just end up wearing each other's clothes you don't even wear your own clothes you end up wearing her dress she wears yeah it's like having a new wardrobe so if you can go with your girlfriends just take their clothes how fun that's hilarious very good very good and you said you like going to markets and things is that one of the things that you do when you travel yeah um again if I I need the extra space in my bag um I um shot a campaign last year year before last and Marrakesh um some of them and I had this thing in my head where I wanted to buy a giant hat and my agent's like well how are you gonna get this on the plane I'm like I don't care I'm gonna wear it I'm gonna wear my giant hat um so yeah I've I've gone to some pretty pretty stunning markets I did a trip with um a few girlfriends um god it must be like over 10 years but I got so when I got the MTV job I was just straight out of university so I never kind of went off traveling did your gap year I never had the gap year I kind of did it through work lovely I did I got paid yes fantastic um so we stayed in better places than you would have yes exactly although so I did this trip to Thailand with some three girlfriends when I was working in MTV and I went on the trip during the trip I had to fly back via Hong Kong to host something and then I flew back and met them again but we had this thing in our head where my friend was like no we're going to do a proper backpacker you know we're gonna we're gonna do it the way we're supposed to do it immediately regretted that um and so we'd we'd show up at some of the islands and but again we saw some great markets and like i know i loved immersing myself could have done with some air con um as an irish person but um she's when we'd pop up to the island she goes just land at the island and then then we'll find where to stay this was before i knew hotels hotel tonight would not have worked did not work there did not work in those islands so we we slept like at one point there was three of us on the floor wrapped in a mosquito net and I still got eaten alive but that was my gap year kind of in a way and actually it's a really great way to get under the skin of the destination isn't it yeah it is it is I mean I'm I'd still take staying somewhere like here and you've got a four-year-old now I have a little four-year-old so has your travel changed since you've had the baby yeah um yes and no she's well traveled um because I was hosting love island with a three-month-old baby and i was flying back and forth with her constantly because i was still breastfeeding her as well so like i think i'm the only person who's been in the love island villa who breastfed in there i think who knows who knows what they get up to but they were going to tell us about anyway but um yeah i remember like i landed after one of many flights um and someone behind me saying oh your child is so well behaved and so good is this is is her first flight and I was like she has done more flights than you they're flight number 50 um but yeah we do yeah it's definitely it's definitely changed um I guess safety of where you stay I was probably maybe a little bit too naive in some places that I went to and luckily I've been okay but um I think safety air con yeah um but she's a great eater she'll eat anything no matter where you go she's had a big bowl of muscles and she'll so we're lucky we can kind of food isn't an issue when we go away but actually you do start looking at hotels with kids clubs I know I mean you don't think you will until you do I only found this out this whole kids club thing that we so we ended up going on a cruise which I didn't think was going to be my scene because I don't like being restrained I like kind of getting out and about and I was working with the BAFTAs and P &O are one of their main sponsors so we got given a cruise and we went on this cruise but it was Barbados, Antigua every day we went to a different so we went to a helicopter and we went to all these different places and then there was like a play area and like a stunning play area for kids on board with like toys and things they can do and like the people running it were brilliant and so I went in just to play with her there and they said oh you can leave her here and come back in an hour what?

27:42I was like Ian to the bar so I was just like cocktails cocktails cocktails and then you found out you could leave them there all day which we didn't but like I was like oh you can come back and leave her again but even just having that hour to ourselves because I think we were still quite you know we've got one child you know where you're just like I don't I don't leave yeah especially I think sometimes in hotels I always get a bit worried the boat just felt quite safe felt very safe the kids club was there she was playing with other kids what a lovely cocktail yeah no honestly my son is now 22 so way past that but we did start looking at kids clubs and there's an amazing new hotel in Bodrum that opened last year that's owned by Max Royal Hotels.

28:23It has a 24 hours kid club. Now, I know you're not going to do that but I promise you it's like a different hotel in itself. It's unbelievable and they have from babies to toddlers to teenagers and the kids are all having such a good time. So the parents are having a great time. And we're having a great time as well. I just didn't know that was an option and she was having great, she was like, you can go mommy, I'm having a great time and I was like okay this is great yeah so I think because she's she's four now it's only kind of the age of like kids club starting but I am all over that oh well I know lots of them so just ask me right oh I'll give you a whole list I'm all over that what is the most poignant travel experience you've ever had so hard to because so much of my um travel has been connected with work yeah and and also like I get quite nostalgic like different points in my life and turning points you know like it even like when I moved to London it was like you know it was such a big thing I was 22 I'd won this competition I you know I'd I think I'd just broken up with my my first boyfriend Irish boy you know this and in your head it's like a big life change and that was huge and then being having a call from my producer saying we're to send you to LA and I had to interview Coldplay like it was ridiculous amazing you know to go from interviewing nobody to that being your first so I remember like I'd never been to LA before and I'd only seen LA in films and and to I mean it's it's not as good as you think sometimes because it's very it's like I find LA difficult and me and my producer funny story because I like to walk around places yeah not a lot of walking there you can't walk so like I was in a hotel and we tried to cross the road you can't cross the road in LA so we ended up having to climb a fence to get back to the hotel and they were like why do you just get a car or drive because everyone drives now so I'm much more a New Yorker in that like I like kind of walking around places but I remember LA being just the I'm here and I have it I'm doing this by myself and I'm here by myself and I've moved away from home and this is and I'm interviewing Coldplay I'm interviewing Coldplay and I'm at the Video Music Awards and it was just a very ridiculous, surreal situation to be in.

30:38And I kind of felt like an imposter in many ways. I still do to this day, but you just keep on pretending, I guess. You don't need to pretend. I feel like I am. But then we're all kind of, but then I used to interview people who are massive stars and they'd be the same. They'd be like, oh, I don't feel like I don't belong here. Like no one really feels that way. Imposter syndrome. I know it is, isn't it? Women have it more than men, actually. Yes. I actually, I studied a thing about it, actually, where it came from, where the term, I wrote a book called No One Can Change Your Life Except For You, and imposter syndrome.

31:09And it did, it actually did kind of derive from this term that was coined, looking at women in male dominators, particularly business areas. And they were imposters in a way, because there wasn't space for them, or they didn't see anyone else that looked like that. And I think you're right. I think a lot of women feel that. Because if there's another woman in that space, there's only room for one woman. So if you see another woman, it's like, oh, it's only going to be one of us in that space. Well, I look in this room today and there's like four women. Yeah. Hooray. Which is great. Hooray. Yes, exactly.

31:42I asked you to bring a photograph. Yeah. Or a photo album. Yes. That sums up travel. Yeah. Can you show us some of the photographs and tell us why that sums up travel? Do you know, I miss my mom and I was talking to my aunts this week because I was down in Southampton. I went for dinner with some cousins and my aunt just hoards. It's lovely, like loads of pictures and photographs. We don't do it anymore because everything is online. And my mom always has loads and loads of albums. And I don't really do it as much anymore. But I used to try and print off pictures and put them in an album as much as possible.

32:15So I actually brought an album. Yay! So it's the album I made because I had time in 2020 after the 2019 Road Trip Across America. And I need to do this more often. Oh, look how gorgeous. This was the album. I also have one from the Thailand trip and a few other trips. But then life happens and I haven't made one for a while. So I'm going to. Oh, that's so lovely. So it's lovely. Do you know what? I flicked through it when I knew I had to bring a picture today and I couldn't decide which picture. Because I'd forgotten places I'd been through. and I've written them in and I've written in the names of places we went to and I almost forgot that we went to when we were in San Francisco um my husband and I have a podcast uh a murder podcast we don't murder murder they wrote murder they wrote a true crime podcast so we visited Alcatraz because we did an episode about you know people who've escaped from Alcatraz and they've never found them so so that was fascinating to see I forgot we did that so um but the picture I'm going to pin I am going to narrow it down I promise that was us in Reno that's brilliant I love that so this was the place this is when we stopped at Lake Tahoe which we only stopped to refill for petrol and we just like we just found this hotel in this gorgeous lake and I don't know what a beautiful like it's just stunning and the sun was setting it was that golden hour and I don't know if we were supposed to because we actually weren't staying in the hotel but for residents of the hotel they put out this uh shmores area where you can get like you toast the marshmallows so we just kind of helped ourselves to that and this whole area was toasting marshmallows by this beautiful lake and absolutely beautiful um it wasn't on the list of things to do but it's also very me and my husband we kind of just found this little golden nugget on the way to reno perfect and i love albums and my son goes through all my albums because when he was little i used to just make the albums all the time and now i just think you know what when i'm on an airplane I go through my photos and I delete delete delete because we've got so many ridiculous ones and then I try and put them into albums and then have them copied on Apple you know where you send them through it's so worth it because as you get older people around you want to see it and you're not going to start scrolling through your phone as much as possible I know and then it's it's weird though because I sometimes forget like years fly by look there's um Niagara Falls but we um this was one we made as well actually the actual route that we took because I forgot I actually forgot what we'd done but the phone now does that thing where it does it does it does if you have locations on it does bundle it because I couldn't remember when I went to Bali so I typed in Bali and they and it told me what year but that only starts at a certain time but I do miss this no it's this absolutely I haven't done this in a while well it's a great way to do it and it sums up what you think about travel which is lovely because you're a bit off the beaten track just a bit a little bit find those little nuggets on our feet you landed on your feet yeah before I let you go where are you going next and what's next for you business wise um well where i'm going to next i'm actually going to ireland to do the end of this play um and then um i so what i want to do is one place i've never been to and me and my husband have we spoke about this years ago i've never been to japan ah lovely and i've never been to yeah but obviously tokyo is on that list because i feel a lot of places I go to the world it's sometimes you go to a city and it's kind of like every other city it has the same chains it had everything else so I just would like to go somewhere that feels very different I am reading a book at the moment called butter it's um it actually is a murder book but it's set in Tokyo and it talks a lot about food so I think I'd love to go over there and taste um because I just feel like it's so different it's so different the road signs everything everything yeah but i've i've i've never it's just it's on that list for some reason i've never been there so that's that's the plan of the next location to go to and then um work wise i've got a new documentary series is that your investigates yeah so it's it's it's for a crime investigation it'll be on amazon prime so it's a different series from investigates different topics but it's to do with it's kind of looking at adolescence like that series you know that series but real life wow so very topical very topical um we filmed it last year actually but that's that's coming out so I'm trying to balance real life and important issues that I really want to talk about but also having the lightness in there as well so well I can't wait to watch it and if you need any tips on kids clubs yeah where to go with your four-year-old anywhere else in the world cocktail to have when they're there thank you so much it's been a joy and delight to go around the world thank you it's really fun thank you

37:02Thank you.
