In short

Celebrity artist management and music-industry strategy, told through Mani Nordine’s career. He argues that “money and fame” thinking ruins artists, that discipline and passion matter more than tactics, and that managers must handle ego, family dynamics, and high-risk tour logistics.

Guest backgrounds

Mani Nordine is a Moroccan-born (raised in a small village) French-based manager/choreographer. He moved to France at age 8 for economic reasons, adapted to a new life, trained in gymnastics, then shifted to dance. He won a gold medal at 14 and earned a scholarship to study in New York. He later became a choreographer, then stepped into management after a famous French R&B artist’s manager failed her.

Key claims

  • No strategy beats passion; “nobody help you” and artists must self-drive.
  • Artists need managers early because mistakes can last “for all your life.”
  • Family/friends managing creates emotion and conflict; use relatives in non-business roles.
  • Ego is both necessary and dangerous; artists often “finish alone.”
  • Tours are financially and operationally fragile; one failure can collapse the whole show.

Notable examples

Mani cites managing/working with 50 Cent (who introduced him to Snoop Dogg), Akon, Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg, Pharrell, Michael Jackson’s family (3T/Paris Jackson), and Stevie Wonder. He discusses Kanye West’s UK ban, Justin Bieber’s Coachella approach, and tour costs like Kanye’s “Sphere” staging and past festival production overruns.

0:1050 Cent:A man whose influence drives some of the biggest needs in the music industry. 50 Cent, Akon, Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg, Pharrell, the list goes on. Mani Nordine.

0:21Kayne West:First thing, if you follow money and fame, you fucked from the beginning. You have to think about passion, passion and passion. Secondly, you don't have to think that, oh, someone will call me one day. This is a movie. One money coming, he will sign me. I will be worldwide. Nobody help you, bro. If you want to meet the people that's going to help you, wake up, go to your bathroom, and look your face in the mirror. The most crazy specimen on the planet are artists. They're moody, they're insecure, they're super talented. For me, they're the most attractive people in the world. I have the chance to meet Michael Jackson.

0:53Kayne West:So after that, nothing can impress me.

0:55Mani Nordine:For making your deals happen and speaking to the people you want to speak to. What's your strategy?

1:00Kayne West:I will be honest with you.

1:04Mani Nordine:Just a quick one, guys. We have an offer running on the Thirst app right now. And for those who don't know, this is an app which I built to give you everything that you could possibly need in order to get yourself in shape. So this is everything which I've learned over the past 18 years of training, speaking to all of the experts and coaching thousands of clients. Since the launch of the app, we've helped over 100 ,000 people to get one step closer to achieving their goals. So those people no longer were wasting time in the gym trying to figure out what exercises they should be doing, how many reps, how many sets, when they should rest, what meal plan they should be following that's gonna be best suited for them.

1:39Mani Nordine:No more of that. You can get access to over hundreds of programs to help you build strength, power, and size, along with meal plans to help you build muscle, lose fat, and optimize your health and wellbeing, whilst also allowing you to have some degree of flexibility in your life. So now's the time to get in shape, make it easier for yourself with a system that actually works, with minimal input and the absolute maximum output. Let's get into the video. What's up guys and welcome back to First Things Thirst. We have a special guest today and someone who I'm looking forward to speaking to because this is something which I'm very interested in.

2:15Mani Nordine:The music scene, the music industry, I'm a huge fan of the artists and music is something which I listen to every single day and I have them since I was young. yeah i haven't really had anybody on the podcast yet i mean we're like 140 150 episodes in i haven't had a musician yet so this is going to be interesting to talk about the world that you're in where you've come from the journey you've gone through to get to a point now where you are managing and working with some of the biggest musicians in the world and artists

2:44Kayne West:thank you to have me first of all and i'm very happy to exchange and talk with you about that Nice.

2:52Mani Nordine:So where did it all start for you? You're originally from Morocco?

2:56Kayne West:Yes. I was born and raised in Morocco until eight years old. So my family, for economic reason, they moved to France because my father wanted better destiny for his child. So we moved to France. It was a little bit a big shock for me because coming from Morocco was so beautiful, beautiful. Which area? Which part of Morocco? It's a very small village, so nobody knows it. We're living without common water, no electricity. But I was very happy, to be honest with you. But when my father decided to bring us to France, I was really upset because people think that France was better for us. But honestly, it was so good there.

3:38Kayne West:We play with horse. We have fresh food. And then it's very strange because my father decided to move in December. so imagine the shock the cold yeah we're coming from dubai to alaska you know yeah so i remember it was not so cool but after we was much better because you know we have toys we have christmas so we love the culture in france i make like two three years to adapt in france i don't even speak french imagine at 80 old so everybody was laughing about me in school who is this guy is like indiana jones you know yeah and uh you know now i don't regret it because i thanks my father every day because it changed my life, you know?

4:17Kayne West:Yeah. Imagine if I stayed there, I would just stay in a country and do nothing, you know?

4:22Mani Nordine:Oh, yeah. Well, I mean, I've been to Morocco a few times before. I've been to Marrakech, I've been to Casablanca. It's beautiful. The food is amazing.

4:28Kayne West:Yes. It's dangerous, the food, especially for us. We love to walk outside.

4:34Mani Nordine:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, you originally got into, was it dancing?

4:40Kayne West:Yes. So, it's funny that we talk together because I, I always can say that sport, dance, because dance is one of the most difficult, because I was gymnastic before dancing. I was gymnast. So what's happening? I'm living in a, you know, it's a suburb, you know, in Dijon, close to Dijon. It's called Project, you know, like city, very lot of ghetto, you know. Yeah, they go. And I'm very lucky because in this ghetto, they have only one space we can enjoy. It was a gymnastic spot, you know. So we were spending all days, you know. And I'm coming from Morocco. Morocco, you know, the roots, we're playing in a tree, we're jumping, you know, it was like African roots, you know.

5:22Kayne West:So for me, honestly, I have the capability to do very good thing in gym. After two years only, I was already in national team of gym. So I started to do gym. My dream was to go to the Olympics and to be French champion and whatever. And I hurt myself and I was to the hospital, you know, and my father said, you have to stop this. is too dangerous to do acrobracy and all this gymnastic thing so another thing we moved the house from one building to another building in ghetto and there was also a house of dance just front of my house i have just across the street so i say i will try because it's close to gym you know gym and dance you know it's like super super disciplined thing you know so i did it and i was also not bad at 14 years old i got i won the gold medal and it was the first prize to study in america imagine it's crazy so my life changed i uh i reached down new york at 15 years old you know and i have everything paid by the french government thank you friends you know so they pay me everything my ticket uh my food my scholarship there border than center is one of the top school in the planet and this is how everything starts you know when you touch new york when you can make it there you can make it everywhere that's like what i love the energy

6:40Mani Nordine:it's amazing city yeah talk about being in an ideal place to level up challenging but i mean

6:48Kayne West:if you can crack new york the world is your oyster yeah new york is very aggressive city when you don't know it it's like a jungle yeah i call it the big apple so i was talking to my buddy just shout out to just us because that's why we're here and i told him the energy of new york it's unique in the planet nobody can have this energy it's dirty it's dangerous it's whatever you said that you have a hope in new york that you have nowhere else when you just yeah i remember when i just arrived the first day my dream is to visit times square it's nothing but for kids you know and i look like this just the perspective of the building you see how the building is so high so your vision is highest than everywhere you know and i said i will never leave this country I will stay here no matter what.

7:34Kayne West:After my scholarship was finished, I said I have to come back.

7:37Mani Nordine:So I came back at 18 years old for good reason, for work.

7:41Kayne West:So it was my life start.

7:43Mani Nordine:So how do you make the transition from, you know, becoming a very, you were a talented dancer at the time, instead of pursuing that, moving away to, did you originally start working in choreography? Yes.

7:57Kayne West:So the right evolution in my job was to be a festival student, then student dancer then dancer professional dancer for professional dancer you you always

8:09Mani Nordine:when you're good you go to choreographer and artistic director it's almost the same job but

8:14Kayne West:not the same because when you are artistic director you can hold the light you can hold the stylist you can hold the stage you can also talk about all the marketing uh everything you know photo shoot everything so i was very interested by this job and the last bridge was management you know and one day one artist very very famous in france its name was awfully winter she's massive she's the first one doing r &b she was the wife of prince she did the featuring the puff daddy whatever she was huge in france she had one song it's called shame on you it was top number one in chop top charts in france and she was signed by universal music so i was her choreographer and she was like everybody saw me with her on tv everywhere you know and her manager was a drinker drunk drug addict whatever that's why it's very important for the rest of our conversation and she said manny i don't like anymore my manager he always fucked up for everything he don't wake up you're always the guy on time you are very good i see you training every day you do your gym you do your routine whatever i trust you more than him yeah and that's clicking in my mind because i say wow this is what we're talking about we're talking about discipline we're talking about gym we're talking about healthy life healthy spirit healthy mind this is the key of the success and it's very strange because i have this time maybe 19 20 years old and it stayed in my mind all my life i said maybe people trust you more when healthy that's why i don't trust people is not healthy yeah it's difficult to do business with someone he doesn't take on himself because how he doesn't respect himself you think he's gonna respect you yeah so i took his place i don't know nothing about the business zero and she was so nice she told me listen many i trust you this is the most important the trust is everything then you're gonna learn i said but i don't know nothing i don't know how the publishing is the right the contract she said you know what come with me to the label everything i'm telling you just say it because she knew everything about the business she was the queen you know so she helped me i was gonna say like how did you how do you initially

10:27Mani Nordine:make that leap to wanting to become a manager to manage the talent yet not really having the experience or know-how of how to do it i mean this was kind of like just a blessing like a gift like

10:41Kayne West:here you go yeah let's see what you can do i will tell you something very funny i always said

10:45Mani Nordine:who doesn't know work more you know if you don't have a culture you're gonna read more than

10:51Kayne West:everybody if you don't study in university you got this complex that you're gonna even study even more than everybody you understand what i mean because when you know you're good you're not bad you're good but you will never be different and excellent because this complex that's the reason i always compare music with sport i will tell you something if you think about everybody are very big in the gym or box they was weak they were skinny there when they was young they have this complex so they work even more i i have the chance to work with mike tyson and is one of my talent and i talked to him he told me when i was young i was not so big everybody said i was like this is not true i have this complex they make me different that's why i work even five times more than everybody so i believe on that that's why that was my case actually because i was so complex to was to not going usually these people they're coming from this job that adjunct they work in label they have they study marketing they study music ride whatever me i never studied all this that's why maybe my my my life was different of them because this complex made me so weak in my mind that i say i have to work more to be ready for the meeting of tomorrow yeah when you care about yourself i think you walk more yeah so if we break it down

12:09Mani Nordine:to the basics of what a manager's roles and responsibilities are for an artist what would

12:17Kayne West:that be psychologue here the fight is here it's the most crazy specimen on the planet artist they're moody they change their mind they scare the insecure they're super talented they have everything is a mix you know very strange mix yeah but they are the most honestly for me that's the most attractive people in the world because you never have something common with them you know i have the chance to meet michael jackson so after that nothing can impress me to be honest yeah you know i have the chance to work with all the family 3t paris jackson german and Jackson. So after that, it's difficult to be impressed.

13:01Mani Nordine:What were you doing with Michael specifically? I met him. I didn't work with him.

13:06Kayne West:I met him physically because I was working with his nephew, so 3T. So I was the one who represented them and Paris Jackson is older. So I had the chance to meet him. So for me, it changed my life because I swear that when I was young, my dream is to meet

13:2350 Cent:him so i always say dreaming we should do it you see and after 20 years i was with him that's crazy when you think about i have his poster in my room and have five six years old you know when i was in

13:35Kayne West:morocco i have this big paper i was impressed to have him you know wow and the same people i was thinking to work with them like snoop like legend like this like uh diana rose tv wonder whatever and i was managing them that's crazy so nothing is impossible if you think about yeah

13:54Mani Nordine:um at what stage does a artist need a manager like it can obviously it will get to a point where it's like okay they need steering in the right direction they need guidance they need somebody to make some big decisions for them from the beginning beginning yeah yeah because

14:13Kayne West:the mistake you do in beginning it can affect you for all your life and the problem the artists have some massive ego that they always said i know better than everybody and when they're doing good they said to me oh you see how i'm good and when something happened bad it's my fault yeah but you have to accept that it's part of the game you know but me i'm dealing with that because i know how they are and i love them and i respect them but i know how they are what do you think of some of

Read the full transcript

14:42Mani Nordine:these uh even the athletes or the artists who have their friends or family members doing the managing for them does that work i think it's a mistake yeah yeah i always think you know why i

14:54Kayne West:will tell you for two reasons this is what i always say to my industry first reason no emotion in a business when is your husband when is your sister when is your girlfriend when is your wife when it's your brothers emotion will come up anyway first of all secondly this happens always trust me after 40 years in this business when they fight you lost your artist and you lost your family you know how much damage can be inside the family so because you lost it so i don't believe in that it's the same that when you work together listen i imagine you with your wife or whatever you work together in the same office you fight in the office you go back in home she will remind you what's happening in office and when you fight in home for anything just because you forget the cup on the table they will affect your business so you lost both that's why i i said to my artist don't mix with your family and they always think that they say that to keep the place because i'm always managed artists they have some family member i say you know what you do give them some role he's good for workout make him a personal trainer he's good for fighting make him your bodyguard something you pay him and that's it that's why snoop dogg is very smart he never makes nothing he always uses friends for something oh you're good for barbershop okay you're gonna be with mount off just for that yeah don't don't involve in my music business

16:27Mani Nordine:yeah yeah because i guess like a bad example of that would be not that she really had any say in it but britney spears and like her dad just being so controlling of her entire life she doesn't talk

16:39Kayne West:to her dad and he's an issue you know and i will tell you something it's very hard what i'm gonna say but this show business it's a hard job how you can be hard with your family because me i'm very hard with the artist sometimes i fight with him i don't care i close my phone he closes when we don't talk how you not gonna talk to your family for three but you need this fight to show to the artist you have to go to the studio you have to not cancel the shows you have to be hard so you don't need emotion doesn't help to fight with the artist yeah what usually tends to be the most

17:11Mani Nordine:difficult thing when you are working with the artists it's the ego yeah yeah i always say ego

17:18Kayne West:is not your amigo that's my favorite sentence i make it to share about that it's mine it's mine ego is not your amigo and i think it's so true because artists have an ego that well they will

17:28Mani Nordine:have millions of fans who are just worshiping them and they're obviously that gets to the head

17:33Kayne West:but i'm the guy who say no yeah so that's the that's the first and that's what they need because

17:37Mani Nordine:a lot of these guys i've noticed they have yes men surrounded by yes men of course yes man because

17:42Kayne West:even me i have yes man around me but i have the no man too because i will tell you something the funny thing is if you think very deeply about this subject they need ego more you have ego more you're successful also how you can make a million a million people love you if you don't you love yourself so much you have to have an ego you have an ego yourself yeah when you look yourself in the mirror your good looking body you have you need this ego imagine if you don't have ego you know I don't care. This ego make us alive. And I will tell you something very funny. More you have ego, more you're going to be a superstar.

18:21Mani Nordine:You almost have to be delusional.

18:23Kayne West:More you're selfish, more you're going to be an even bigger superstar. You have to be selfish. You have to be ego. You have to be very, very hard with the people around you. It's very sad that it's like this. But you're going to finish alone. That's also the rule of this job. And I find out that every artist to have a massive ego but sometimes you don't have to lose yourself is so is there a sweet spot as to how much ego you can have more you have to have massive one okay and you know ego is like a devil you can't even control it when you cross the line you're fucked so okay give me michael jackson he finished alone who is the biggest ever artist on every story michael jackson yeah nobody can even think to touch his he finished alone die nobody helped him in his castle wonderland look with all the billion dollars he finished alone because people confuse fun and love this is not the same thing people love you for what you do but sometimes with the confusion you think is for you yeah that's why when at the end of his career when he was not so good and all this trail about to chai and everything he finished alone imagine how sad is well everybody love you for a million a million a million time and then nothing imagine the shock it's the worst thing that's the reason why the artist doesn't work anymore they are crazy don't let an artist busy you have to make him busy

19:57Mani Nordine:yeah that's my job so where would you clash with them is it with them wanting more money or uh making outrageous demands which are just not realistic for them at the time or them you're telling them like you have to go and do this at this time and they're just like no

20:16Kayne West:i don't want to do that you know before to be a star they are human so they have a different star they also have coolest guy you know i was thinking about that last time alone and i said in my mind I think money and fame just reveal characters. If you're a cool guy, with money, you're going to be the super coolest guy on the planet. If you're an asshole, with money, you're going to be the worst on the planet. Money doesn't change people. This is what I hate to hear this sentence. Money changes you. No, money doesn't change nobody. It's just the anger you have inside when you have money. And when you have more money, you're going to show off more.

20:53Kayne West:But you are like this. You're born like this. you know look when you think about in the school you have the one he will show off the one he fight with everybody the one is shy you see yeah imagine if you give them each one billion what's gonna happen the fight is gonna build ufc in his cage in his home he's gonna scratch everybody the shy one will be in his castle alone and the other one he show off with girls he have rm you know like prime example floyd mateweather thank you yeah he's good but is that because he's a like actually

21:26Mani Nordine:an asshole or is it all part of the plan to just build hype for the fights and make people

21:32Kayne West:hate him so that they want to see him i work with him so i know it i i didn't walk every day but we did some deals together i did philippe plan events with him in can so we talk a lot i saw him in vegas I think he just just limited intellectually he just limited he's a boxer

21:49Mani Nordine:okay so he's trying to make up for the fact when you see his father you saw his father

21:53Kayne West:his father he grow him in box every day he doesn't teach him nothing else he don't even know how to read properly it's true it's not like I saw 50 Cent

22:03Mani Nordine:making fun of him because of that it's true

22:05Kayne West:that's the thing he's the best what he's doing okay but 50 times 55 50 wins nobody have this nobody Even Muhammad Ali, even Tyson, that I respect even more than him, he lost. He never lost. I think, and I will say something, when you're an expert on something, real expert, you're the best. You can focus on everything. People want to do everything now. They want to be an actor, they want to be a boxer, they want to be a businessman. He's not. Stay with you in your life.

22:37Mani Nordine:no yeah so so when you went from landing your first client who was a huge client i would imagine you were you were dedicating a lot of your time to just working with them the french lady at what point and how did you start to pick up more clients and more artists to work with you know me when i

22:56Kayne West:start to work with her we were so close i mean um she's huge she can't even go out of her home like she was like the madonna of france she was famous in spain in germany and a lot of countries so it was for me too much to start with her it's the same like you you start a movie and you start already with the fast and furious first thing yeah it was like a crazy crazy beginning of course i did a lot of mistakes and but she was very nice and we did so many success together and i said in my mind oh this is this it's not so hard because when when you come from background from athlete trust me it's another world like i said every time i said to my office it's easiest to pick up a phone to pick up a weight you know yeah it's very easy to say hello send email this is this is what we're doing but wake up in the morning at 8 00 or 7 00 when it's super cold and train four or five hours when I used to be in the school or in a gym, break your wrist and do again and you have competition.

24:04Kayne West:This is hard. That's why I always said, I train hard to make success easy.

24:12Mani Nordine:Well, I think that's, maybe it's a bit down to your personality as well because I think you're a people person. Yes. You like talking to people. You have a way to communicate and understand them where quite a lot of people wouldn't have that same skill where they're they're probably just happier waking up early and grinding it out doing their training for a couple hours because i think

24:34Kayne West:without this skill you will never be success in my job you need to love people first i mean you go somewhere this morning i was in the gym and i talked to someone in my hotel and we just chat this my skills i love to i think i can learn from everybody even for my driver even for my med we We have a super good relationship. Because my father grew me and told me many. My father was a very good man. He told me, respect everybody. From anybody. And I saw how he respect my father. So I think it's also education. Education is like this. You now have the chance to work with Barack Obama, one of the most powerful presidents on the planet.

25:13Kayne West:And I work with the new artists that nobody knows. And I respect the same. Of course, I'm polite and whatever you want. But the same. and we're human bro we're human you know I have always a question do you know your father? do you know your grandfather? yeah

25:29Mani Nordine:your past grandfather? no

25:31Kayne West:that's it twin generation we're gone nobody will remember us nobody the only thing is gonna stay this is what we're doing today legacy advice inspiration this will stay maybe someone in 300 years they will go oh you remember this crazy guy that was talking in Dubai and they changed life. You know, I changed two lives already in my life and this is the most I'm happy. One of the guys that he was 12 years old, he was dreaming to do my job. Now he's the VP of Warner Music Chapel in Germany. You see, after 10 years, now he's vice president, imagine. It's crazy the guy. So I changed his life. He was in internship in my office, then he changed.

26:16Kayne West:This is how you do. if you can change one life like you do you you're in a sport and coaching or whatever if you can change one perspective in the brain of people i think you're successful for successful men because money is nothing everybody can make money here especially in dubai everybody have money what's the difference between 1 million to 100 million to 20 million nothing you're gonna eat only one two three times in the day the difference is what you incur in your life what you're doing if you're a real good father, if you're a good son, if you're a good friend, if you're a good teacher.

26:50Kayne West:You understand what I mean? This is the difference. Nobody will remember Elon Musk. Nobody. But everybody will remember Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King. Everybody, Che Guevara. Everybody will remember those people. Who cares about Warren Buffett? Who cares? You will see. He's going to die soon. I hope no, but he's going to die. In 10 years, nobody knows who is Warren Buffett. Who? Warren what? you see the difference of iconic and rich guy yeah successful guy that's that's the difference and and in the world we're living now everybody obsessed with money obsessed with lifestyle obsessed with success especially my job everybody wants to be star star of what i said they have only one star in generation not you're not gonna be star you're gonna be good but you're not gonna be a star can i be popular that's different yeah with some who are some of these talents that you've worked with me like within in terms of like fame music or everything like one's way like okay this this like this person is just above i would say some name but his bad buzz at the moment is r kelly yeah yeah he sold 120 million record he was the biggest voice and and i used to work with him but now he have bad births so i will say stevie wonder because i organized the tour so this is my biggest problem in america is the godfather yeah he inspired michael jackson he inspired diana rose inspired everybody yeah so and farin williams he always said he's my godfather so stevie wonder and arky yeah i think so what goes into the process of organizing a tour like for for these artists are they doing i'd imagine they're doing world tours so where do

28:44Mani Nordine:you even begin to try and organize something like it's very very difficult it looked like easy and

28:50Kayne West:when you look where is the one of the toughest toughest job in the planet because you have so many intervenants so many people you know it's like you cannot you know when you you coach someone for example in the gym you have you and him in in tour sometimes you have 200 people and you have to hire the exactly perfect people in every segment of the tour if one fell all the tour fell yeah for example the guy of the light if the light crash you're fucked you show his fault even the voice it's amazing given the superstar even security if one of the security fell is the same if you let your fan coming in stage and break everything inside oh so you see and it's the only job in the world you have a date you have an hour you always you know the click the time so I'm talking to you for example Tuesday I'm on stage so you see it can happen everything he can miss a slide he can be sick what happened one day everything was good was on the way to the shows and we have an accident imagine random accident And we was three hours late on the show.

29:56Kayne West:And he hurt his neck. He was a massive star. So you see, everything can happen. Storm, strike, terrorism. It happened to us. Flight, strike, so many things. Imagine how you can sleep. And it happens around 100 times in a year. So it's crazy. The stress level is another one. And you know what's the most difficult to handle? It's not the celebrity. Everything is this. No, celebrity, with age, we start to haunted them. The most difficult is when the promoter fell. You know how much money he lost? Some people sold the house because he fucked up the show. The artist can't do it or some problem. Imagine how the promoter, how to talk to him.

30:42Kayne West:The worst thing to me is when I cancel the show and call him. I have to call. It's my job to call. That's the worst thing.

30:49Mani Nordine:So the promoter's job is to make sure that all the seats and tickets are sold.

30:54Kayne West:Yes, the promoter invests in the show. I mean, the promoter, he promotes the show, but he produces the show. For example, me, I'm the agent. I'm the artist side. Okay. So I represent the artist. But you have, let's say for Maldives Island, it happened last year, for example, one guy organized a festival, but he's the guy who invests the money on the festival. He paid the production, he paid everything. He come to me to book the star. Then I arrive there and he doesn't sell tickets or the show is canceled. imagine how the frustration some i i leave some situation when the guy stole his house just to cover the lost imagine how it's difficult because we always see everything um the business but you have to see also the dark side of the show yeah except especially

31:41Mani Nordine:these days i would imagine that doing shows or tours is probably up there with one of the most profitable things the artists this is what we're doing because they're not like making money from

31:49Kayne West:selling cds anymore brand the biggest money is on brand now not in the show in the tour everybody think the tour makes so much money of course they make money but when you see how much art is between them they compete for example uh i'm doing kenny west now we're doing on tour i'm going into georgia and some city like amsterdam and if you see how much cost the production sometimes the artist lost the money because he wanted to be the biggest yeah because what did he what did he do recently in america where he was like this is the sphere yeah the sphere it's called the sphere yeah that was crazy that's called three million dollar just to move it three million each show imagine what is three million dollar i give you an example um 15 years ago we was in rabat in casablanca one of the biggest festival is called my was in kenny was doing the show he was paid a very big money at this time he's massive he's like two million dollar he's like let's say he's around 20 million today it's like the biggest and he like the michael jackson when the group come here and go in the people you know how it was cost to to cheap it from south africa 2.5 so he lost 500 000 you see the kind of thing like this so how he can make money it's impossible yeah he spent more money on this because he wanted to be like michael jackson he saw this i want this light i want this firework artists are crazy and our job is to stop because you're gonna do it for free and everybody see that of course they make a lot of money this is not the problem but sometimes they lost a lot

33:18Mani Nordine:of money it's interesting on the on the other side of that you've got like justin beaver's recent performance at coachella he just sat down yeah just playing stuff off his laptop which

33:28Kayne West:obviously the cost is probably very low people are stupid to like that what can i yeah you know you know and it's so sad we was talking about justin beaver you see he's he's the worst failure artist. He's so talented guy. And look how's the manager. He don't even have manager now. Who was manager? Scooter Brown. Oh yeah, okay. Yeah, he managed him, but he was the best for me. He was best for him. But you know how when they grow up, he know him when he was 12 years old. Then he say, I don't like you. He's like his father. I want to kill the father. You know, in psychology, we say we killed the father.

34:02Kayne West:At the age of the maturity, he hates him. But he make him. If it was not just Scooter Brown, they have no Justin Bieber. you know I always said the artist beat and eat your hand when you give him food this is how the artists are

34:17Mani Nordine:I can tell you

34:18Kayne West:I have so many stories about that but it's life me I always said the time we are together we make money together we make success together when the road split it's okay me I remember the best time I never forget yeah but I remember

34:34Mani Nordine:what do you think about the recent events of Kanye West not being allowed in the UK I think it's stupid

34:41Kayne West:you have to separate the artist with the creativity with his creation otherwise why do you listen Michael Jackson maybe I don't say he did something I don't think so so stop so cancel Michael Jackson it's not about UK it's about Jewish stuff and the Jewish didn't like it what he said but he's a bipolar guy why you have to talk to someone he's almost crazy you have to forgive him he's just crazy he apologized is after he went to the Jewish center in Los Angeles himself and look me I'm doing Georgia I'm doing nobody put that pressure we good and he's a good guy Kanye is a good guy really and I say it front of TV he's a good guy very good guy humble guy very funny he just crazy just be crazy yeah that's why his creativity is what I told you before craziness release creativity if you're normal you're gonna be normal art it's normal tell me one artist very very talented is normal tell me just tell me one that's why people like us love these people because we are different we're normal people i consider myself like a normal guy i'm a father i'm a family man i'm don't drink i don't smoke i

35:59Mani Nordine:don't take drugs but i love these people because they make me laugh i tell you with normal people

36:05Kayne West:i don't want me i don't see me another money you know one person who i feel like is who's done a

36:12Mani Nordine:lot but has always managed to keep a pretty level head and has not been involved in any weird stuff it's 50 cents 50 cents is crazy in his the work the way how he is is crazy too i work a lot with

36:26Kayne West:him he's my very very good friends i know him since 20 years actually it's 50 cents he introduced me Snoop Dogg. So I respect him a lot. He's an amazing guy. We did everywhere in the world. He came to Morocco with me in my house. He's a very, but he's crazy too. But in his way, he just, look, with all the money, the fame you have, why you have to curse everybody? Why you have to fight to someone? You think you're happy when you do that?

36:56Mani Nordine:No. You know? His social media is absolutely wild. He does not give a fuck.

37:01Kayne West:I will tell you why. the reason why he's like this I knew 50 Cent since G-Unit so I knew him since the beginning day one the problem of 50 Cent he's one of the topest you know he knows how to make the very good rap and everything but now he's fucked because the new generation the only way to stay relevant is to do this and he understood he's very smart otherwise you will never talk about him you will never ever mention his name today yeah you know better 50 Cent than his song his name is more famous because social media now the kids they have 12, 14, 15 years they're obsessed by social media and he understands that nobody cares about music anymore who cares?

37:45Kayne West:You know when you know NBA Young Boy, The New Generation all this Travis Scott whatever nobody cares, they just want the characters and Father Williams told me one day, most important is the characters look Snoop Dogg if I tell you, I give you a paper now I said write me five songs of Snoop Dogg I'm not sure you're gonna say it maybe two maybe three he's the biggest rapper on the planet he's the one who makes the most money is Snoop Dogg nobody else no Jay-Z no 50 no nobody he's Snoop Dogg he do commercials for everybody he's now he's gonna be the world champion of the football he was in Olympics he's doing Nike he's doing everything it's crazy it's so crazy do you know some song of him?

38:31Kayne West:except one or two.

38:32Mani Nordine:I know from like the doggy style, like the old songs, but none of the new songs.

38:36Kayne West:You have no song, no hits since 20 years, zero. And he's always the top one in everyone.

38:40Mani Nordine:Yeah.

38:41Kayne West:Because he creates his character, his smoke, his face, his attitude, his social media. He posts 20 posts per day. You know, one day I was so happy. Every year he doing my birthday. Every year he posts my birthday.

38:53Mani Nordine:First year I was so happy. Everybody called me, oh Snoop Dogg,

38:57Kayne West:happy birthday, man. But you know why I was upset? because he posts 100 posts.

39:01Mani Nordine:So nobody cares about his posts. He posts less, just like kind of keep me...

39:05Kayne West:It's the same for when we're doing his show, I told him to post. So he posts like clubs or he posts shows or festivals or whatever. But we're upset, we're frustrated because he posts so much that nobody sees. I was in UK in Bonbonne, you know, the club in Bonbonne in UK. It's very famous. We did Big His Birthday. I say, post it please so we're going to have a lot of people. Nobody sees it. Nobody knew that Snoop Dogg was in London because he posts so much that nobody cares anymore. but we love him so much so good guy very good guy yeah that's that's one thing i find

39:36Mani Nordine:fascinating is how some artists manage to stay relevant like many will come and go they'll have a hit they'll do something which allows them to be relevant for whatever reason but then especially in today's day and age with social media people can forget you very quickly unless you're kind of you're doing things and you're out and about and all of that so what is the key to maintaining

40:02Kayne West:relevancy over a long period of time so this is what i always said get the success is cool but it's possible stay relevant for years it's almost impossible almost why this my humble analysis why the artists they always stay relevant for two reasons first of all they are passionate of the job. They're really passionate. They're not following the money. They follow passion. If you look at every successful artist, they're all the same. They are obsessed by music, really. Second one, they have empathy. You never see an asshole this day in all the year. It's empathy. They have fan base, massive. So when the radio, the TV, the media, the magazine don't follow them, the fans are so big, I will tell you an example.

40:57Kayne West:Akon is like this. He's here since 23 years. Two Grammy Awards.

41:01Mani Nordine:Yeah. He had the craziest run. Like every song was a hit.

41:06Kayne West:I'm his manager. So I'm telling you, I'm his personal manager. So I see how people love him. You see people love him. If you see him in real life, it's exactly when you see him in TV. He doesn't show off. He doesn't show you that. If he talks to you today, you will be impressed he will talk more about you than about him that's smart he's like a sponge, emotional sponge he took everything when we talk to anyone a cooker, we was in Ireland this December, we did huge events in Ireland and we had a cooker coming every day imagine, I never see that in my life the cooker was actually it was from London, it was a British cooker he makes some different food, every day Econ took a paper and said how this, the cooker was a he was a huge fan he said Mani, is he playing the game or he really want to cook with me?

42:03Kayne West:So they make cake together, he was shocked the guy, the guy told me he's the most attractive and most funniest and humble guy I've met in my life that's the reason, people want don't forget we're human, we're not machine, so when you think about song you have to think also about emotion, because otherwise what's the difference between ei and an artist emotion you know everybody told me oh when the ei will come we're gonna make music okay ei is um two three years now really in the game how many

42:36Mani Nordine:songs they make zero on top 10 zero because you need you know what people attract by failure

42:43Kayne West:not perfection why do you think akon is so successful because his voice you see his voice is like break voice like african um every artist they have failure and people are tracked by failure by because human are weak and we are weak you are weak so when you see a celebrity with weakness they make you okay he's like me that's identification when you have identification

43:08Mani Nordine:this is what you are tracked by what so when like akon was at his peak and he was you know making all these hits how would anyone see him as a failure at that point

43:20Kayne West:because he's he was so funny you remember in the interview he was always talking about his african stuff yeah say when he don't have money uh you know i will tell you something um people sometimes are attracted more by the the artist than by his song i find out because

43:36Mani Nordine:you know how many action bronson yes i love his personality yes his music like i like rap yes like it's not my route

43:43Kayne West:sometimes you are attracted by a bad person because we are human human are connected like a I always compare this with the wifi we need the same passcode to connect and some people you don't know you don't connect

43:53Mani Nordine:you know me

43:54Kayne West:I work with Farel Busta Rhymes Jay-Z it's not I love I have no problem with them no connection I don't know why we make business tomorrow I have Bruno Mars I do I work with him no connection but there are respect but no connection why snoop why acorn because we are in the same mood with laughing with joking we are in the same vibe yeah and you can be friends with everybody friend with everybody friend with nobody it's when you are hypocrite yeah that's not good when everybody says oh i'm friend with everybody it's mean i don't want to be your friend it's mean something wrong so you love people they kill children so you're not my friend you can be friend with everybody yeah it's impossible especially now with the time you can't be friend with everybody if you know what i mean you have to take side a real man take side

44:50Mani Nordine:and respect his side all right guys quick pause here i've got a question for you are you in shape are you not in shape is there work to do most likely if so i have the tool for you which is going to help you out massively it's the thirst app this is something which i personally use myself when it comes to my training and my nutrition. I have all the programs in there, which I use on a regular basis. And for those who are just looking to lose a bit of body fat, the same thing goes for women as well. A lot of people don't realize that I used to coach for a large chunk of my life. So all of my coaching experience has been put inside of this app.

45:23Mani Nordine:I want you to learn as much as possible about how to get yourself in shape. There's exclusive videos in there telling you how to do it, how to execute exercises properly, the foods which I eat, and a newly added nutrition section where you can track your meals and your daily macros. It is pretty much this pocket-sized version of myself which I'm going to carry around with you all day every day. So if there's something which might interest you which it definitely will do I highly suggest to check out the link in the description, head over to the Thirst app, get it downloaded, you will not regret it.

45:56Mani Nordine:Let's crack on with the episode. So if you're for example working with an artist or managing an artist and use maybe they don't know it but you know it that their music just isn't hitting like it used to that the popularity isn't quite there how do you then guide them to take the next step or even just break the news to them like hey maybe the music thing we're gonna have to either you have to either reinvent yourself to appeal to a younger audience or maybe we start we try something a little bit different i have one words

46:32Kayne West:no strategy to be successful listen to me no strategy every strategy fell oh I will do this oh my my audience will be 15 to 28 there will be more girls they will this is shit

46:4650 Cent:I'm telling you

46:48Kayne West:after 50 years this is shit first thing don't follow the money that says if you follow money and fame you fucked from the beginning none of my artists they make it they was thinking about that you have to think about passion passion and passion first secondly when you do something you don't have to think that oh someone will call me one day this is a movie one money coming he will sign me i will be worldwide nobody help you bro nobody if you want to meet the people is gonna help you wake up go to your bathroom and look your face in mirror only you you can help I'm not a magician this is what I said to my artist I'm not a magician I'm not gonna sing for you I'm not gonna produce songs for you you have to do everything my job is to guide you you are the engine I'm the guy who is gonna go to the destination I'm like a GPS but if the car is a shit I'm not gonna go nowhere you understand yeah then if you do everything with passion and I'm gonna really really think about that of course you're gonna be successful fully this is it's it's a no-brainer you do what you do the best and you're gonna be the best but if you think if you need help it's mean something wrong every artist come to my office new artist i'm talking new beginner oh can you help me i said what if we start like this i don't even sign in you know a real artist what he's doing he is his mom he's in studio he create and then I go to him it's my job to find him it's the same like a girl I don't want the girl come to me and try to say I'm the most beautiful no I go to see this you so if you're really beautiful all the men will go around you you don't need to show off in Instagram show your ass no you don't need that if you're really good you're gonna find someone it's the same in a sport if you're amazing athlete amazing coach imagine whatever you don't have to provoke them they will come organically look i have some many artists they will they never go to the label and say sign me doesn't exist we we chase them we go we hunt them we heard about them oh he was this is how economic or 50 cents or snooper was m &m yeah because he was so good what he's doing he finding me signing

49:13Mani Nordine:me bring him to dr dre this is how the life is you can go and show off i'm the best i'm the best

49:19Kayne West:first of all you're not the best you cannot be maybe one day the best but our job is to find it

49:26Mani Nordine:do you think there there are such things as industry plants because i see some i mean maybe it's my own personal opinion but i see people come out of nowhere get this crazy popularity they're all over the place but i can't really understand how one artist or individual is able to become so successful so quickly yet somebody else who i would consider to be very talented never really is able to break through like what what is it i know exactly what you mean

49:58Kayne West:um i always said when you go to grocery they have every product it's not for you it's for someone else that's the problem is i always heard that oh manny you see this guy he don't have talent but we see him always on tv and he started workout i say you think he's coming from nowhere If the guy sells record, they have a reason. Because they have people who buy this record. So they have a demand for this artist. Maybe it's not you. First of all, who you are to judge if you have talent or not. If the guy sells one million record, he has a talent. Even if he's a shit. If someone sells shit for one million, I want to meet this guy.

50:37Kayne West:You understand? Like, how are you doing that? It's the same if the coach is going to the gym, he has the biggest client. 20 clients and you have only one. And you always say, look, this guy has a belly. he don't know how to trip why people go to him maybe he have better charisma than you maybe he's most funny with the client maybe he make them confident maybe he talk better than you it's not him the problem is you if you have only one client this is what i said people don't want to hurt the talent sometimes you know when the guy is a lawyer in all day in the office maybe in the night you want to listen shitty song you need to respect that because everybody have his own talent you You know, me, I always said, you know how many people trying to make shit and it never work?

51:18Kayne West:How many make shit songs in the studio? Oh, this song is a shit. They make a hundred million of you. Do you think you have a hundred million stupid people in the world? You know? Because maybe the melody attracts some regular brain. Maybe your brain is a little bit more advanced and so you want more on the ground music. But this is your problem. Yeah. You are not the old world. We are seven billion. that's why when you go to grocery they have different food they have shit food they have good food healthy food whatever of course imagine the world how it's going to be so boring if you

51:53Mani Nordine:have only talented people yeah i i heard a story i don't know if this is true or not uh 50 cent when he made that 21 questions i don't think dr dre wanted him to put it on the album because he thought it was too soft yes and then 50 cent was like no no i want it on the album that ended up

52:08Kayne West:being like huge is a true story yeah yeah it's a true story because you know 50 he's like he's he have something that a lot of artists don't have he have intuition he feels the thing and you know an artist when he believes in a song and he comes to me and says manny i really want this on an album i look at him i say do you really believe in the song yes i love to say okay let's do it because end of the day is not my album me if the album is a flop it's not my fault he wants it like this but imagine how much his frustration for the artist when he worked for two years for an album he doesn't work and he asks you this song and you say no who I am to say no this is his piece of art you don't go to Basquiat or Picasso and he say don't write like this right or you buy the pen or you don't buy it so when you sign an artist you buy his universe you buy his world you don't have to say me I never go really in creative sight with artists because I believe something I believe I have my advice of course my job is to advise but I don't go so much in studio anymore

53:11Mani Nordine:yeah you gotta let him do that thing yes I said do what you do

53:13Kayne West:when you finish it bring it to me when it's finished why because don't eat dishes before the cooker finish it you understand but then you say it's good or no but you can go put the cell put this put that and then after it's your dishes it's not anymore the dishes of the artist

53:30Mani Nordine:yeah I would imagine a difficult thing that a lot of artists would face is when they start off they're hungry they are just in it for the love of the game like just making art then when they start to get popular to get the fame to get the money comes the attention with the women like all these opportunities coming from different directions there's distractions everywhere and it will take them away from doing the thing which they need to do which is to be in the studio and to create the art so how how do you help some of the artists to stay away from that world and the parties the invites the women everything and just

54:12Kayne West:lock in and focus on what they need to do again the career of an artist is not something like so easy to do you know it's like a wave sometime up sometime down the problem is when more the artists have money more is powerful more is famous less he listen that's normal yeah so the problem is The artist need also to fail sometimes, to understand by himself that all the bitches, all the women around him, all the money. You know, some of my artists, he just bought 16 car, spending money for nothing, watches of 2 million, whatever. He need that. You have to let him. It's called experience for me. Let him to feel this experience.

54:56Kayne West:You don't have to tell him no. It's the same story when you have a child and you want to go to play. No, don't do that. You're going to have to restrain him. Let him to follow. let him to fall on the floor but your job is to be with him and to help him to come down this is your job me I never go to the artist don't do that don't do that I said you want to do it do it you want this girl do it you want to go on a trip but don't miss your job I'm very hard with them about shows studio interviewing this is also I tell them to the artist or 360 degrees. For more information, visit www.fema.org But if, again, we come back again in the same word, passion, if he really needs music for his life, he can bring any girl in the world, any money.

55:37Kayne West:He will always do music. He will be his guitar. He will always be in the studio. If he's not the artist, really, he will be fucked up because he was looking for fame for this. Of course, fame is nice. Fame is very nice. Trust me. I'm famous. I love fame. When I go to Paris or Morocco and America, especially America, I'm more famous. I love I love to go in restaurants people say you want this table who don't love that it's human but I will never change what I have inside never so I think it depends on the artist some artists have passion they're always in studio whatever if the song works doesn't work they continue because they love to do music no music is a therapy for them

56:21Mani Nordine:you know

56:22Kayne West:and some of them especially the rappers the new generation they don't care because they're born in social media. They're born with social media. So for them, to be famous is to be rich, to have watches, to have women, to have cars is part of the style also. And it's a funny thing now, it's also part of the success. If a kid of 9, 10 years old, he don't see his favorite rapper with the new car, with the new watch, he doesn't buy a ticket too. That's crazy too. It's a vicious circle.

56:53Mani Nordine:I always think about this when it comes to rappers and relationships and as a rapper to get married it's kind of like conflicting with everything that you have rapped about in the past about you of course you know fucking all these bitches and then now you're going to be a loyal husband is it maybe the your fan base don't want to hear you

57:14Kayne West:talk about that but i'll give you an example i walk i used to work a lot with 69 when it was the biggest at the time. And Six Night built his success only on that. The music was okay, but it was not crazy. But all his hype, all his fame was around his watch. He make Naked Girl. He's crazy. He break windows. And kids love that. He make hundreds and hundreds, millions of people. He makes so much money with that. He buy watch, Richard Mill, I don't know how much, five million or whatever. Kids love that. You know, it's a puppet show at the end. It's a show biz. Everybody forget this word. It's the holy words.

57:56Kayne West:Show biz. It's a business about to show. You have to show yourself to make money. So if you want to do something, it'd be a heart charity or architect. If you do this job, you have to show yourself at the end. That's why when an artist is too shy, I said, you are in the wrong business. You are in the wrong industry. Especially now. He used to work 20 years ago. your song talk to you not anymore yeah it's a package you need to be you have style you need to be uh to sing very good you have to be amazing in interview you have to be your social media have to be perfect it's a package that's why it's harder to be star now yeah yeah yeah because before everything the thing is the reverse yeah i say it's hard now to be a star yeah because you

58:42Mani Nordine:i mean people have cameras everywhere you have there was no social media in the past so it was just like you had you had your music videos on mtv you have two star madonna michael judson that's

58:53Kayne West:it and then you have this and this now you have if you open your spotify maybe 100 new artists per day per day imagine how much emerge maybe once every year yeah what was your favorite era like

59:06Mani Nordine:your favorite decade of music me personally was 2000 to 2010 yeah of course that was 2000 yeah

59:12Kayne West:$1 ,000 for me, 2010. You know, I will tell you something. When you think about today, now we're going to do a little bit of math. When you see the arena in Europe, in America, in South America, the only one who fill arenas is U2, Bono, Aerosmith, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, Acon. The only one who can sell 50 ,000 tickets. Drake? Only the only, of course, Drake. it's the same when I'm talking it's not new Drake Drake is in the game since 20 years who the new artist can fill an arena nobody none of them zero yeah you see so it means something it means we don't have new merger artists now no one no one can fill 50 ,000 10 ,000 I'm okay it's my job I can tell you no one only legend why is that because tourism First reason is about Spotify and iTunes everything.

1:00:16Kayne West:The problem is now we're living in a digital world. So to be relevant in Spotify, you need to make one song every two weeks. That's why David Guetta is the number one always. Otherwise, the algorithm will make you on the end of the list. So the new artists have to make quick music. The second reason, on a studio before it was a real player. now everything is digital everything is on computer we call that in-house so that's the reason the music doesn't sound like before for example prince that's one of my top artists

1:00:52Mani Nordine:when he was in the studio everything was played quincy jones was playing everything you saw the movie of michael jackson this is i'm gonna see it tonight it's amazing it's amazing you will love it

1:01:03Kayne West:so that's the reason the sound doesn't plus we're living in a world it's very sad but the kids now they can't even focus more than one minute my daughter if you put in a song for more than one minute they don't even look at it this is switch they're born like this because they have channel they have YouTube before you have one channel you put a child and you look channel all day now they can switch if they don't like the color if they don't like the cartoons so we're living in a world Even with women, everything is switched, everything. So the music is a consequence of that. We don't have any more good music, so people don't like it.

1:01:42Kayne West:Look, new artists like Young NBA, all this new generation of rappers, how many songs they have? One, maximum. The rest, you don't even know the song. How you can fill a stadium for two hours if you have one song?

1:01:54Mani Nordine:Yeah.

1:01:55Kayne West:If you go to Bono, all this ACDC, this legendary group, they can sing for two hours. non-stop and you're not gonna be boring acorn why is big 17 time number one in billboard 17 hit he can make it two hours on show you know yeah it's literally every song is just a banger and everyone's gonna know the words yes and but the same drag the same drag have so many songs i work

1:02:21Mani Nordine:with him so many songs it's impressive you know i'm curious to know what his new album is going to be like because i mean yeah this is an opportunity to kind of redeem himself because

1:02:30Kayne West:he was fucked with the battle with the kenrick destroy him i i didn't think that anything would

1:02:36Mani Nordine:be able to kind of pull him down from that number one spot but that did it was so big before it was

1:02:42Kayne West:so big honestly i worked with him uh we did a couple of shows i didn't like him personally i saw so many staff i don't like the personality of the guy he's very talented but i don't like the personality how he treats his people and i'm not fun you know and i'm not what do you think

1:03:00Mani Nordine:that's just because of the level of fame he's reached or he was always like that i think he i

1:03:04Kayne West:think he was famous too young and uh he's um his people around him not so good people you know i think there's also it's a member we talked before it's also entourage is very important entourage his manager this team the money and this and that it's not even ghetto people it's like the people coming from music industry from label you know they don't care about him we'll see but you don't care about your artist it means a lot yeah i guess like one thing that's also quite

1:03:34Mani Nordine:interesting is he's not i mean he's young but he's not like young like he used to be so yes i think all especially rappers he was spoiled for me rappers struggle with aging because as they get older you know they get into their late 30s 40s people like why are you still rapping about this like go start a family and have some kids like why why are you it's not cool anymore i will tell

1:03:59Kayne West:you what's happening in hip-hop this is my also uh i'm really expert in hip-hop industry when you start hip-hop you have this anger you're coming from the street and the only way to express yourself is by music when you have this money and this fame this is exactly what you're supposed to critique 10 years before. Oh, this is now, this is now. So you do exactly that people was hating them 10 years before. So it's a circle. The only way to survive in hip-hop is to be like G. Cole, you know, this kind of artist, like poetic artist, coming from underground, Nas, you know, Nas. Snoop is different.

1:04:40Kayne West:Snoop is unique. Snoop is the guy, he can make socks, he will walk. Snoop is a character. It's like a cartoon's life. let's say he's funny guy he's smoking but the other guys the only way to survive is to give some to go from underground music to something they're gonna touch you maybe they will talk about politics maybe they will talk about i don't know uh terrorism whatever they have to do something different yeah but the problem of the rapper they're so stupid they stay on the line bitches champagne i'm gonna kill you you have 50 what you're talking about you can be grandfather i'm 50. You see me with the jogging and I will never do this.

1:05:18Kayne West:You know me, I also, you have to improve yourself.

1:05:22Mani Nordine:Improve. You have to evolve.

1:05:24Kayne West:Look Jay-Z. This is the perfect evolution. Rapper, he was drug dealers first. Then street drug dealers, rappers, label, now he's a businessman. Huge businessman. Uber is him, work nation. We're talking about billion, three billion. This is amazing. He's wearing suit, he's he's produced Rihanna, Beyonce, Calvin Harris, DJ Khaled, DJ Moussa, the biggest. Alicia Keys is him. That's what I'm talking.

1:05:56Mani Nordine:Yeah, then you can like, you can start rapping about the business.

1:05:59Kayne West:Yes, and he rocked with Biden, Barack Obama. He changed also in New York. He had foundation. This is what I respect on him. He helped Harlem. He had kids to study. He changed the perspective of the black people. he showed them that you can improve his art that looks with beads he's thinking about art he's he showed to the black people inspiration show them look i was drug dealers imagine you dealing with barack obama now this is amazing for me yeah this is the american dream yeah

1:06:31Mani Nordine:there's very few people who've been able to continue to do that that's why i have the respect for 50 cent because he's he's gone off and done so many other like amazing things and

1:06:41Kayne West:Sometimes he's doing rap.

1:06:42Mani Nordine:Yeah.

1:06:43Kayne West:Just for fun.

1:06:43Mani Nordine:Yeah. And he's sold out.

1:06:45Kayne West:Now he just -

1:06:46Mani Nordine:It's like for the intro of one of his series.

1:06:47Kayne West:He make him very rare. And sometimes one shows, boom. Yeah. 40 ,000 tickets in one minute. That's smart, you know?

1:06:55Mani Nordine:Yeah.

1:06:55Kayne West:And his song is classic. That's why 50 is supposed to stop. 50, now, last time I talked to him, I saw him last year. I was in Monaco together. We talked. He said, I'm more in movies. That's smart. Now you see the movies -

1:07:07Mani Nordine:To be an actor or producing. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

1:07:09Kayne West:He loved that. And he'd do series, power he's produced with abc so he's smart 50 also in his way yeah but he's more ghetto i mean even

1:07:18Mani Nordine:this the thing he did with p diddy in the the documentary like that is i i actually watched this that period of building up the hype for the documentary and it being released when it was number one he gained i think one to two million followers on instagram wow and that's absolutely nothing to do with music but just because he was associated with all of the drama that was

1:07:43Kayne West:happening with diddy at the time by me i'm in switzerland because i'm between both you know that's the problem yeah i have to respect diddy for many stuff many things somebody was the first black guy to make what's happening he was the first executive producer he's the guy who discovered everybody actually he helped 52 but nobody knows that and i was i was witness of that and did he gave me my first position but boy he helped me the first when he came in europe so i'm the switzerland i remember 50 told me if you work with diddy i'm not gonna work with you and be of course you'd say that yeah i said i'm switzerland i'm just like a photocopy you put the paper i do my job i'm just i do just prestation i'm just a small booker it was no just he won't follow me uh 50 just for that because i was posting a picture with diddy it's crazy this guy well this is the thing like even

1:08:33Mani Nordine:like for example with future podcasts that i do i want to be smart about who i interview because i don't want to interview one of his enemies because then that's going to absolutely fuck me with ever

1:08:43Kayne West:having the chance of can i give you an advice yeah invite everybody yeah this they will respect you more you know why industry respect me because i keep my line and i'm not don't follow the wave be the wave think about this one don't think about strategy if you like a guest and you want this guest do it if I had this guest listen to me if I had the guest you had yesterday here I will come to you if you're good what you're doing I don't care and I respect you even more because this guy doesn't care about me he cares about the product we're going to do today what I did yesterday I was not here so I don't care Rick Ross and 50 the worst enemies and I walk with both

1:09:26Mani Nordine:because I respect both the music they put out

1:09:28Kayne West:I walk with both I was Monday with one Tuesday with that they respect me but I don't talk about themselves I don't talk about beef how much he made I don't know but this is how people respect you I was doing 6ix9ine and Snoop and Snoop hate this 6ix9ine they are big beef Snoop one day I did a video on Instagram with all celebrities he said take out 6ix9ine I said no but he didn't follow me he respect me

1:09:52Mani Nordine:you see

1:09:53Kayne West:I said no bro bro, this is my job. I'm not his manager. I'm just booking. You know what I mean? Yeah.

1:10:00Mani Nordine:I guess they respect that you're firm.

1:10:02Kayne West:They respect you more. Don't think strategy if I invite this. If the guy want to do the interview with you, he will do it. It's an excuse. I don't like this guy. It's not like we are together in the same room and you tell me, let's do an interview with him. That's different. But if it's separate. Okay, so Jimmy Carvel, when he's doing the show in America, SNL and Saturday Night show, 50 say i'm not going that because he was jayzy or yeah you see you see the difference yeah don't take part otherwise you're gonna be part of and that's gonna be different especially when you're

1:10:37Mani Nordine:in media yeah i'm glad you said that that'll be this helpful for me it's no frustration to don't have them both why um aside from the the artists in like the like rap and things like that how is the dj world different because i know you you work closely or you have done things with david guetta

1:10:57Kayne West:um black coffee i don't know if you just something coffee bob sainclar avon how how is how is that

1:11:03Mani Nordine:how is that lifestyle different because like from what i see at once upon a time when i was in my early 20s i was like wow i think i'm going to be a dj one day and then i realized no that's definitely

1:11:14Mani Nordine:from the outset looking in like that seems like the craziest lifestyle of all because you're flying all around the world doing all of these shows you work in the craziest hours like just throughout the night until till the early hours everybody around you is off their head on drugs yes so you've got to put up with that and resist the temptation of that like how what do you think the biggest differences and struggles that those the djs because djs have to deal with

1:11:41Kayne West:honestly um i'm working with the biggest dj in the world like david kitta is number one marta garricks uh black coffee all of them doesn't take drugs yeah this is for real i can say it none of them they have a huge health lifestyle health lifestyle every day david is david looks great now yeah he's great he was always great not on chamber great on the on the on the how he's the this music industry he's a very good guy he never drinks he just drinks water not even I drink Diet Coke he doesn't Coca-Cola he doesn't even drink Coca-Cola so you see the level of his extreme to be successful you have to be extreme I always say something these people listen to me always when I say that imagine I don't take drugs I don't smoke I don't take alcohol I don't gamble and my job is super difficult imagine if I do that I have no chance to wake up Tomorrow I have a flight at noon.

1:12:37Kayne West:How can I wake up if I party tonight? I'm going to miss my show in Paris. Then I'm going to miss my show in Serbia. Then I'm going to... You understand what I mean? If I start to drink, I say to people, imagine an athlete. He drinks. He has no chance to make it. He has no chance to be champion. Even if I don't drink, it's hard. Imagine. So this is not even a question. So in this DJ world, of course they have drugs, they have everything. Not in my artist. they have some but they will never show off in front of us I know it's existing some they took cocaine they took some weed whatever but they don't do it in front of us because now we're living in a world where health is the new lifestyle you know so it's good actually it's good you know and I remember back in the day everybody took insurance everybody I'm talking about the 90s everybody good times not drugs like cocaine heroin that's another world yeah everybody in america who was like the trend now it's not anymore trend so it's good for me yeah but i guess you can't you can't really do it without people capturing it

1:13:47Mani Nordine:nothing gonna look worse than you like the eyes completely blacked out and jaw swinging like it's

1:13:53Kayne West:not a good look yeah but they put some glass so you don't even see the eyes how are you gonna see the eyes you know no i think i think i think now we're living in the world of artists they want to be relevant they want to be they want to do good performance and they know drugs are not gonna happen yeah maybe in a studio they do some weed that's for sure that's on the rapper just because they want to be in the mood but they don't go hard you know they go sometimes but i don't see so much yeah i trust me they're not gonna show to me yeah i'm the last guy they want to show me they're not good because i'm not gonna believe them to do shows with them imagine how i'm gonna pay a hundred or million dollars someone maybe he's not gonna show up yeah so they do it but behind my back yeah i'm like the father they don't want to disappoint you yeah exactly yeah exactly which

1:14:42Mani Nordine:uh events that take place around the world or parties that happen do you make it a mission to be there and attend purely for film festival it's my can film festival okay yeah it's my favorite

1:14:55Kayne West:one i don't know why it's mix of it's gorgeous 10 days you have the most beautiful people in the world the most richest the most powerful the biggest celebrity on the planet in the same city for 10 days it's never happened nowhere coachella they have some style but they're not all style and you go to miami winter week okay you go to dubai okay but imagine in the same city you see how can is small in one closet you have 80 percent of the most celebrities on the planet

1:15:27Mani Nordine:yeah i went a couple years ago you like it yeah it was cool but that i uh i mean this was kind of me going as a tourist i didn't speak to anyone didn't message anyone so i was kind of like a guy just looking from the outside at like what was going on in the inside yeah i was like okay like if i'm coming back here again i need to be hooked up yeah like you need

1:15:47Kayne West:unique connection yeah if you have good connection you can have good time yeah no south of france is unique it's very it's elegant it's very elegant and um you know last time i'll give you just one small story i was in a martinez hotel i go to the bathroom i pee and the right it was alpacino peeing he said oh how are you doing man like this really it's not it's not a fake story it's a real story just it was a big event for chopard and he was here he was peeing close to me alpacino

1:16:15Mani Nordine:just to tell you

1:16:17Kayne West:the level of no bodyguard nothing yeah

1:16:21Mani Nordine:is it anywhere else

1:16:22Kayne West:I'm gonna see that he will never do that I like Saint Tropez yeah

1:16:26Mani Nordine:I love Saint Tropez

1:16:27Kayne West:I love Grammy Awards in LA something magical Grammy I love also the BAT Awards in Atlanta is also something different another experience more ghetto but cool yeah I love I love to be of course Paris Fashion Week something yeah no one can compete

1:16:45Mani Nordine:because in your industry i guess you kind of need to do it to whether you want to meet people who you've not yet met or just keep relationships and you know you know you're going to see people you

1:16:57Kayne West:haven't seen for a while but you need to kind of yeah because after all we are human like i told you it's not just about the number you know sometimes i have some deal it doesn't work through because the the the human front of me don't have the right connection and sometimes we meet it happened to me for a big deal one big deal i can't close it i don't know why many years and i saw the guy in bauli in uh can uh film festival i saw him in another table he come to me oh we talk we talk i say why we don't do this deal he told me no you know my it was two artists we're supposed to collaborate then we talk we talk then we joke we go after party in a boat the morning at 8am I received the agreement you see I didn't ask him about the agreement nothing just I like you so let's do it he didn't like me he told me after all he told me I don't like you I said why I said I don't know I don't like you then we meet and we talk and we joke and he said oh you're a good guy he was old man you know all compared to me well at 60 I was like at this time 35 but just to tell you there's something I think we are like you know we need to connect

1:18:05Mani Nordine:yeah yeah 100 %

1:18:07Kayne West:me I decided this is my new rules now I will only you can record it now only do a business with someone I can have lunch with him the day after that's a good one right

1:18:19Mani Nordine:yeah that's my new one

1:18:21Kayne West:yeah I can only do business with someone I can have lunch the day after it means I will never do any more business with someone I don't like

1:18:29Mani Nordine:I don't care

1:18:30Kayne West:because I don't need money yeah I need to be good in my mind because energy is everything for me because you can have money but if you're sad doesn't make sense yeah i'd like it's the

1:18:40Mani Nordine:same thing for me if there's someone in particular i want to meet you know i can send as many dms as i want it's this not going to work like nothing will replicate me being there with the person and having some sort of exchange maybe they won't like me at the end of the day which is fine but at least there's it's happened yeah and usually when i meet someone in person um usually goes pretty well.

1:19:03Kayne West:Even me, I'm a small level. I receive so much DM in my Instagram. You have no idea from everywhere in the world. If I don't meet the person, if it was not true friends, I would never be sitting here. I swear, never I would do it. Even if you DM me, I would never answer because I can't. But it's a question of feeling. We are human again. We need to be happy what we're doing and we don't want to have regret. I think regret is the worst. I don't want to do something I don't like. so that's why i decided now to do business and it worked very well actually better than before yeah i do less business but i make more money i was gonna say what kind of deals now get you excited i have different deal um honestly i'm like i'm doing this this this this job like a business so i have some deal it's always every month big money coming for every time i have another deal, it's a risky money.

1:20:00Kayne West:So I invest myself, I invest money, I have another deal, it's one in and out. They have so many different channels in my business. But the most important is...

1:20:08Mani Nordine:Is it usually connecting an artist with a brand? A lot. A lot now. This is what I do most. You're connecting people together?

1:20:15Kayne West:Yeah, I do a lot of brands. I work with the biggest brands, Chopin, Nike, Puma, Cox Sportif, Andre Lové, Philippe Plain, Dom Perignon. I do so many brands, you know, because right now they invest a lot of money in celebrities yeah i do what to call celebrity network this is my real job now celebrity network it can be a soccer player because i find out i was stupid for many years i was doing music music music because this is what i love so i was doing business music for 15 years now i said i just did the um scarlett johnson and vin diesel and you know it's the same actually it's the actors yeah it's the same access is easy it's even easiest with actor and sportive and music business.

1:20:56Kayne West:I find out I'm doing soccer player. I'm doing love like with Mbappé. We did Lovey. So I'm saying in my mind, I think it's easiest to go to sportive people. They're so humble, you know, than celebrity because sportive is so dedicated to his gym. So when you finish at 6 p.m., you can call him and say, oh, let's have a coffee. Okay, 7. Artists, he closes his phone for two days. Where are you going to find him? He goes on a pendant. Where are you going to find him? Yeah. you know that let you need to be at 6am and training if he's one tennis man or soccer player and you know artists are crazy so i love to do also actor i'm very i love cinema i love movies i love my passion is movies i always love movies have you got a dream person who you would like to work with or you keep that secret desi washington i like this guy yeah i love how he is i love how he think um i met him once uh very briefly in central pair actually in vip he was with his wife so i didn't want to borrow him um i love this kind of actor you know i like uh action movie i love the rock i love how he is i love this guy because i don't know him but i feel

1:22:06Mani Nordine:he's a good guy jason statum seems like a cool guy as well i love him too yeah i love him too

1:22:10Kayne West:this kind of guy i love i love action movie i think i'm gonna i produce one movie now with mgm uh i would do more movies i won't do movies i think but now the problem now the hollywood is crashed now yeah so if i do it i need to do something just for fun not for money no yeah

1:22:28Mani Nordine:it's a shame really because it's kind of like the music industry it's like both of them are not really heading in the right direction like when was back in the day there used to be like huge movies coming out like every week everyone's going to the cinema huge movie now because with

1:22:42Kayne West:Netflix and Amazon. Let's do series. The series, yes. Because people, you know, it's like a tissue. They do and they put it on the trash. That's how kids think. We are not kids anymore. We're not kids anymore. The target is 14 to 23. This is the range they're looking for. And these people don't care. They look 30, 45 minutes maximum and then they switch. Now they look movie and they look the fun. Movie and the fun. Even me. Yeah. Even me, now I can look and move in once now because I'm always disturbed by my phone. You know, me, my problem, I work with America, I work with Europe, and I work with Middle East and India.

1:23:23Kayne West:Imagine in the same time. So when I wake up, I have all the texts from America. When I'm going to sleep, I have all the rest. So it's never stopped. If I want, I can walk 24 hours there. But I need to close my phone sometime. But when I look movie, I can be focused. It's almost impossible.

1:23:39Mani Nordine:yeah well i think they've even i don't know how true this is but i've heard that they actually make movies more simple so that those people who are watching and bouncing between the screen and the phone they can still kind of follow along with the movie because it's not too complex you

1:23:53Kayne West:know what we said we said about movies we said america american make mass massive money on the movie they spend massive money on the movie with a simple story and us we do complicated movie with

1:24:0650 Cent:no money because when you think about america they have the good guy the bad guy the beautiful

1:24:11Kayne West:woman that's it yeah story european movies like oh she loved him but not so much maybe she loved her father maybe she loves but no money in a small dark room you see and the block box still work you know yeah michael jackson was a huge huge huge success 200 million first week so it's crazy

1:24:32Mani Nordine:so like looking forward to the the rest of this year and the following year and so on what is your strategy for for making your deals happen and speaking to the people you want to

1:24:46Kayne West:speak to how like what's your strategy i will honest with i will be honest with you i don't need strategy anymore really i don't need i will go with the flow now i will go on the wave uh like i said because you are the wave because i'm the wave now what i'm gonna do i want to enjoy life yeah i want to make happy people i want to inspire people i don't need money anymore everybody in money but i don't need really big money anymore i'm good um i learned something the happiness is the day when you cannot start to think like me this is the key of the happiness because chasing chasing goal chasing strategy it doesn't make you happy you know i have once that always said the past hold you the future scare you that's the reason we don't appreciate this moment now so if you think in the future you're fucked if you think in the past you're fucked I want to think now not about what I'm gonna do next year I'm gonna think now this day we do we have beautiful moment we talk we chat this is what I want to be and all my life I was exactly the reverse I was chasing money running running running since 15 my life is just to run and i wake up i say fuck i have 51 years and i did what i did okay i did this but i didn't appreciate the more imagine i was with michael jackson i was with stevie i don't even appreciate because i was thinking the day after you need to appreciate the day now so me i believe in my destiny i believe in my i have a faith you know i'm muslim i have a faith I believe that if you are doing with the good attention, if you don't do bad things to people, if you have a healthy mind, healthy body, nothing can happen to you.

1:26:32Kayne West:I don't care if I do 1 billion or if I do 10 euros. It doesn't change

1:26:37Mani Nordine:my life because I'm going to

1:26:39Kayne West:always be health. I have friends. I have my family and I will protect this. This is the most important because I'm done now. I did it. now I have to protect this ship. You know? And go fast or not. I don't care. The ship is beautiful. Outside and inside. This is the most important. Inside. Because everybody sees social media. Oh, this guy has cars. He's on private jets. He has rolls. He has watch. Yes. It's part of my success. I deserve it. Because I'm coming from a poor village family. But the most important, what you're going to do with your money? I can eat only one steak per day. Maybe two.

1:27:17Kayne West:But what I'm going to do with this money, I don't want to have rich kids. I don't want my kids going to be rich because I know how the rich people are. I want to spend time with my kids. I don't want to pay them everything. My kids will have just enough to be happy but not too much to do nothing. You see the difference? This is a real good lesson for people because my problem when I had my kids when they was young, I was buying them everything. like crazy because it's a poor frustration what I didn't have I buy them but I didn't I didn't help them to be like this I help them to teach them that's why I said it's better to have a good education that good legacy I prefer to teach them how to be than give them the money you understand because if they're good they know how I'm gonna make money I prefer to bring them to culture to museum to dance to music this is what they do actually now they're obsessed by art this is what i want piano english to learn to travel this is what i want to do and i find out that all everybody running after money of course you need money look in a beautiful place you need money but i will never do bad sacrifice for money never not anymore i want to have a time and this is for me the success when you have success we

1:28:38Mani Nordine:have a time yeah you have the freedom to do what you want when you want imagine we're here enjoying

1:28:44Kayne West:life enjoying sun this morning i do my workup have another meeting in bulgaria this beautiful life yeah amen where can people find you on socials man in ordine only one they are existing and uh i hope um this conversation will uh help some people because some people sometimes they lost in the mind they think they're not gonna make it uh nobody can make it if they don't believe in themselves because if you don't believe in yourself nobody will believe in you this is what i learned and i was very confident since i'm young but nobody is built like us sometimes people have need help me thanks god i never need someone no mentor nothing because i was built like this but i believe that 80 of the people they need someone they need the guidance they need the mentor and and and that's the reason we're doing that we're not doing that for money we're not doing that for nothing.

1:29:41Kayne West:I'm very happy to meet people like you, to help people to structure the mind. Because after all, if you don't have mind, you can never move the body. You stay in your coach and you look to you. But drink big. That's the most important. I'm the perfect example.

1:29:59Mani Nordine:Thank you, Manny. I appreciate your time.

1:30:00Kayne West:Thank you very much for this pleasant moment. How much I own you. It's like psychology. Sweet. Thank you.

Mani Nordine is a music industry veteran who manages artists like Snoop Dogg and Akon, and this conversation reveals why mixing family with business always fails, how ego isn't your amigo but you need it to succeed, and why passion beats any strategy.
Learn why artists need managers from day one because early mistakes haunt careers forever, how emotion in business destroys relationships when you work with family, and why he never involves himself in the creative process—his job is guiding, not making the art. This covers why ego is essential for superstars even though you finish alone, how digital production and algorithm demands killed music quality, and why rappers struggle with ageing because they eventually become what they once criticised.
