In short
The host’s experience weaning her baby “cold turkey,” including emotional grief, painful milk coming in, and specific remedies (ice packs, avoiding heat, Sudafed/Advil, cabbage leaves). She then gives pop-culture commentary on Taylor Frankie Paul possibly becoming The Bachelorette, Secret Lives of Mormon Wives trailer speculation, and Dancing with the Stars early performances. She finishes with a spoiler-heavy recap of the Summer I Turned Pretty finale, focusing on Belly and Conrad’s relationship conflict and resolution.
Guest backgrounds
No guests are interviewed in this episode.
Key claims
Cold-turkey weaning can be mentally and physically brutal; milk can still come in even if you stop nursing; ice helps more than heat; cabbage leaves can provide “immediate relief.” For Summer I Turned Pretty, the host argues the four-year time jump undermines believability and that Belly repeatedly rejecting Conrad makes the romance less convincing.
Notable examples
Ice packs in tight sports bras; stopping pumping during a six-hour drive; buying cabbage and Mucinex after asking Instagram. Dancing with the Stars: scores and dances like Jordan Childs/Ezra salsa to “Break My Soul,” Robert/Whitney jive to “Born to Be Wild.” Summer I Turned Pretty: Belly kissing Conrad’s photos of Benito in her apartment, Conrad leaving heartbroken, then Belly chasing him on the train and saying “I choose you.”

Automatic transcript. May contain errors.0:14Hello, everybody. Welcome back to another episode of my sister's diary. This is a podcast where it feels like you've snuck into your sister's diary and found her unfiltered stories, confessions, and thoughts she'd never say out loud. Welcome back, you guys. I'm so sorry that this episode is coming out a couple days late. I had a crazy week last week, and honestly, it's because I am not good at planning, and I just, I do things on a whim, and you know, it messes up my plans because I also procrastinate a lot and I tend to, I usually record episodes on like Sunday, edit it on Monday, have it released on Tuesday.
0:52That way I'm like kind of caught up if anything, you know, crazy happens and I need to talk about it on the podcast. But I decided kind of last minute that I was going to go visit my grandma on, let's see, I left on Friday. Yeah, I left on Friday, right? Yes. Yes. I left on Friday, Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. Yes. Sorry. I have to think I left on Friday and then I didn't get back till Monday. And so I really just didn't have time. I mean, I could have recorded like late Monday night and just like thrown an episode together, but I didn't want to do that to you guys. I wanted to have something good planned.
1:27And I also just didn't do my due diligence before I left for my grandma's and I didn't have what I needed prepped to even do an episode on Monday. So that's why it's coming out on Thursday. So I appreciate you guys being patient and understanding. I mean, I don't know that because it hasn't came out yet, but I'm assuming you guys are being patient and understanding. And yeah, I'm here. I'm still here. We're still getting an episode out, but it's a little bit late. So let me tell you, let me tell you a little bit about my weekend. So I decided, like I said, last minute to go down to visit my grandma.
2:03and I decided at the same time that would be a fantastic time to wean my baby and the reason I decided this was because I'd been trying to give him a bottle or a sippy or something for like two months for so long and he just refused it and honestly I was just kind of being lazy about it like I probably could have forced him harder I mean actually no he would like scream and cry and just like push me away and scratch my face and it wasn't going well because and then he would just lift up my shirt because he's like I know the goods are right there like why are you trying to give me this nasty bottle when I know the good stuff's right here so that was not working for me so I decided that the the best thing to do for him and for me was to just rip off the band-aid and do it cold turkey and you know looking back I'm like okay was I really ready I don't know I don't know if I was really ready but at the same time I I don't know that it would get any easier like emotionally or physically even I don't think it would get easier if I just kept going for so long I think it would just be harder for him and for me um let me tell you though I had a really hard time mentally with this way way harder than I thought like I knew it was going to be hard because this is most likely our last baby.
3:25I mean, that's what we're planning on, you know, whatever. But it's, I, so I knew it would be hard. I knew it'd be hard to kind of end this phase of life with him. Like he's not really a baby baby anymore. And like, that was my last time nursing. And so like, I had like this moment with him where I fed him for the last time. I took some notes, I took some videos and like had a little moment. And so I thought I was ready. You know, I really thought I was ready to do this. I knew I'd probably cry a little bit, but my gosh, I did not expect the like wave of emotion that hit me that first night that I was gone.
3:58And my mom was staying with my grandma that night. And then I was staying by myself at this other place. And so I was all by myself. And it was the first time I'd ever been away from my baby. And in like 15 months, that's really seriously how long it is. And like, not even one night, I'd never been one night away from him and that was the first night that I never nursed him to sleep like every single night I'd always nursed him to sleep so that was that was hard I just kind of had like this I'll be honest I was really sad and I cried pretty hard and I was like you know I don't know if I can do this like I in my mind I was like planning right then I was like okay I'm gonna go home and I'm just gonna start nursing again because like I don't want I don't want to stop but I didn't I pushed through And I think being in like physical pain too, because it's so painful to cut off cold turkey.
4:49I wasn't nursing him very often during the day. It was only like three times maybe. And, but I didn't expect that like I was still making so much milk. And I did take a pump with me and I pumped only when I had to, but it was really freaking painful. Like I could not put my arms down because it hurts so bad. It felt like when my milk came in, maybe not quite as strong as that, but pretty dang close. And I went and got some Sudafed and I started taking that. It didn't really help that much. My mom had some Advil that I took and that helped, I think, just the pain and like inflammation. But yeah, it was really freaking hard.
5:32It was really hard physically and emotionally. It's still hard emotionally for me. Like I just can't think about it too much because then I'll start crying again. And I'm not going to cry on this podcast. I'm not going to do that to you guys because I am an ugly crier. Both like physically, like I look ugly and I can't talk. I physically cannot talk when I'm crying. And if I do, it's like or like really, really high pitch and you can't even hear me. So I'm not going to do that to you guys. Let me tell you, though, a couple of things about when you have children. If you've never had a child before and you're wondering, like, what's some things that I need to know that no one will tell me?
6:14I'll tell you a couple things in regards to nursing or, like, your milk coming in. Even if you don't nurse, your milk will still probably come in. I don't think I know of anybody. I know what happens. I know there's people whose milk never comes in, and that's totally normal, too. But, like, I don't personally know anybody who hasn't had their milk come in after they've had a baby. so let me tell you let me tell you some things uh your boobs like I've said they'll hurt so bad they will hurt so so bad like unbelievably bad you think getting punched in the boob hurts it's worse than that it's like you have two freaking rocks they're literally rock solid I'm not even kidding rock solid rocks on the front of you and they probably weigh seven pounds each I'm not exaggerating.
7:00They're so heavy. So heavy. And yeah, they'll hurt really bad. And you won't be able to put your arms down because guess what? You have milk ducts in your armpits. Isn't that crazy? Isn't that crazy? I'm like, why do I need to make milk in my pits? It doesn't make any sense. I don't need milk in my pits. My ta-tas are big enough to hold everything that my baby needs. I I promise. Okay. Also, when you are trying to get your milk to dry up, don't put heat on them. Don't do it. I know you can Google it and they'll be like, okay, put heat on your boobs. Or if you ask somebody who's nursed like an older person, that used to be what they tell you.
7:41They used to say use a heat compress. That encourages more milk. Don't do that. You know what feels even better, ice. Get some ice packs. This is what I did. This is what I did. I got, I have, I had two sports bras on, two really tight sports bras, and then I would put these ice packs on, like, in between them. So I just had them sitting on my chest, and it felt so freaking good. But on my drive home, on my drive home from seeing my grandma, I was not doing good, because I was like, you know, I don't need to pump anymore. So that day, I decided not to pump, which was a six-hour drive back to my house and I decided not to pump for whatever freaking reason.
8:16And I, the Sudafed was not working. The Advil was not working. I, it hurt so bad. Like I could barely drive. So I hopped on Instagram and I asked you guys like, what do you do? And most of you guys said cabbage leaves. So I stopped at this like middle of nowhere town and went to their grocery store and got cabbage and Mucinex. And they probably thought I was crazy. This crazy lady who's in their small town coming to buy another thing of cabbage and some mucinex. They probably like call the police. And yeah, I did that. I took the mucinex right away. I put the cabbage leaves on my boobs and it was immediate, immediate relief.
8:53It felt so good. I was like, you know what? I'm fine now. I'm really good. And I didn't do the ice packs until I got home because I didn't have ice packs with me. So then once I got home, I did the ice packs instead of the cabbage because because it turns out cabbage stinks and when it's on your chest it you can smell it because it's like right by your nose so I didn't love that but it did provide a lot of relief all right are you guys are you guys sick of hearing about my boobs are you because you know I could talk about it forever but I think we should move on so let's move on from that um I'll just wrap up by saying if you are like going through the phases with your kids and you've reached the end of a phase like this is most likely the end of I say most likely because like I could change my mind and I don't want to be that person who's like no we never we said we never ever have kids ever again I could change my mind I don't anticipate changing my mind but I could so anyway um if you're ending a phase, it's okay to grieve that phase.
10:00It's normal. You don't have to push your feelings down. We'll feel them. It'll be okay. All right, let's move on to Taylor Frankie Paul. Let's talk about Taylor Frankie Paul being the bachelorette. I, this might be an unpopular opinion. I don't think this is a good idea. I think it might make for good television, but at the same time, you know, I want to see a love story and I'm not sure that this is going to work out. I'm just not too sure about that because I don't think she's had enough time being by her. I don't think it's even been a year since she's been single. And I think she needs a little more time to figure that out.
10:41And obviously I cannot speak for her. That is not my place. But at the same time, just like watching what I've seen on the screen, I'm like, okay, you need a little bit of time to like heal and not depend on men and whatever. So that's just my hot take, I guess, is I don't know that it's going to go well. I think it will be a lot of drama for sure. A lot of drama. And I really do hope she finds somebody who is like perfect for her. Truly, truly, truly. I love a love story. Some of my favorite seasons of The Bachelorette or Bachelor are when they find someone and they're still with them. Like Joey's season.
11:16Love that season. Let's see. Well, I loved Hannah Brown's season, but that was for different reasons. It's because Tyler Cameron was on there. But yeah, anyway, I love the love story. I love when they work out. That's my favorite part of it all. So hopefully it'll, it'll work out. People were saying, people were, were kind of guessing that she would be the Bachelorette. And I was like, no, like there's absolutely no way they're not going to do that. First of all, isn't there like a weird crossover? Like it's Hulu and ABC? Are they one in the same? I don't know. Seems kind of odd for her to go on another reality TV show.
11:55Like, how's that going to work with Secret Lives of Mormon Wives? Is she just going to take a break from that? Or are they going to, is the whole show going to take a break from that? I don't know. We'll see what happens. We will definitely see what happens. And do I think Dakota will show up? I hope not. I really hope not. And if he does, I hope it's like a, hey, I'm rooting for you. Like, just do whatever you need to do. I really hope he doesn't. But like, I know that they're going to try to get him on. I know producers are going to be like, this is going to be great television if we get him to come on.
12:27And I know they're going to try. I really hope he says no, because they need like, we need to put that in the past. It's clear that they're not going to work out. I think there's too many hurt feelings between the two of them. It's just not it's not going to work out. So we just need to kind of move on from that. Of course, I was rooting for them. Like I wanted them to work out, but it really just seems like it's not going to, and there's just too much bad blood between the two of them. So I think he needs to move on. I think she needs to move on. The other thing I was thinking of is, are they only going to have contestants from Utah?
12:58Because, or will it be the same as like other seasons where people are from all over? Because the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, I guess it isn't specific to Utah, but it seems like in order for the filming to work they'd have to stay in kind of the same spot like they'd have to be close to one another so if she were to find somebody in like minnesota and he's like well i can't move is she gonna move to minnesota and then is she just gonna be done with secret lives of mormon i don't know or are they going to try and find people more local because that would be crazy utah has been just popping off lately like we've got taylor frankie Paul, Bachelorette, we've got Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, we've got like the whole cast of Dancing with the Stars, we've got everything.
13:41And speaking of Dancing with the Stars, let's, let's talk about that. Actually, no, let's talk about the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives trailer first. And then we'll jump right into Dancing with the Stars. Secret Lives of Mormon Wives trailer. I feel like we kind of already know what's going to happen. Like it's already all happened kind of in the media. And we already know like all the speculation and everything. the only thing we don't know for sure is like who cheated on who or if there was any cheating with the whole jesse and dem to me jordan i can't remember the other guy's name marcio mark mario i don't know whatever his name is we don't know exactly what's gonna happen but it does seem like jesse and her husband were separated and it appears they're back together i think actually actually i don't know because i haven't really been paying that that close attention to her now that I think about it I don't think I've seen him on her page very much anyway I don't it kind of feels like old news I'm like kind of over it and I don't know I it seems like the the trailer was kind of mostly focused on that I guess we will see what happens but um another prediction I have is I think Jen and Zach have left the church I I'm pretty sure uh I won't tell you why I speculate that, but I think that they might have left the church.
14:56That's just my, my guess. And maybe not, maybe they didn't. It's whatever people want to do. I don't care if they stayed or if they left. Um, is there, you guys think there's beef between Macy and Michaela or their babies having literally the same name? Because I think I, if my best friend named her baby, the exact same thing as mine, I think I would, um, actually, yeah, no, I think it might be weird. Maybe they're not. Like, to me, it sounded like their babies, both, like, both of their babies' names were Charlotte, right? Because they kind of post that TikTok where they're like, they have the same names, but, like, one of them goes by Charlie and one of them goes by Lottie, but they're both named Charlotte.
15:37And I'm like, okay, that's literally the same thing. But, like, if you're going to call somebody by a nickname, why not just name them the nickname? You know what I'm saying? Like, if you're going to call somebody, you're like, oh, her name's Joe Santa or something, and we're just going to call her Joe. And like, you're planning on calling her Joe for the rest of her life. Why not just name her Joe? I don't understand. I mean, I'm coming from my like full given name is Samantha. And I'm not Samantha because I've been called Sam my whole life. So I don't know. It feels kind of weird. I don't know where I'm going with that.
16:10But anyway, do you guys think there's beef between the two of them? Because I think that might be kind of a touchy subject, but at the same time, they're not going to go by Charlotte. So maybe it doesn't matter. And honestly, names are just names. So who freaking cares? People who get like super offended about someone having their baby name, I'm like, get over it, honestly, because it doesn't really matter that much. It's just a name. All right. Let's dive into Dancing with the Stars. I am really excited about the season. I think we have a stacked cast, truly. I think we're getting as the show is getting bigger.
16:46I mean, it's a big show. It's been on forever. But like as it's getting more attention now, like it kind of went snooze fest there for a while. And now it's like coming back. And I'm excited. We have some pretty, pretty big people. Well, I don't know. Some people who don't watch reality TV are probably like, who the heck are all these people? But if you watch reality TV, and you kind of follow pop culture and social media, there's a lot of people on here who you would know. I'm just going to kind of go through everybody's dance. I'm not going to spend a ton of time talking about each one, but I do want to talk about every dance.
17:21So let's do that. First off, though, Kirian Inaba was not there, and I can't say that I missed her. I was just kind of over her last season because her scoring was so inconsistent. She would play favorites hard, and her feedback was, like, not super constructive. It was more like, here's everything you did wrong. And I'm not going to tell you. Well, no, actually, it wasn't. She didn't really give like, you need to do this better. She's like, you, there's just something missing. Like, you just need to do better. And they're like, well, please just tell me exactly what it is like that. That seems like her feedback is just kind of like vague and ambiguous.
17:58And they people have to figure it out on their own. And I just need her to be a little bit more specific and not play favorites so hard. So I do feel bad that she was sick and that she had to miss the first show, but I think it was okay with just Derek and Bruno. I love them. It was a little chaotic. Maybe Carrie Ann actually serves as kind of a, I don't know, what's the word I'm thinking of? She reels them in, I guess. I don't know. Okay, let's just go to the first couple that we saw dance, which was Jordan, Childs, and Ezra. And I was hoping for, I say hoping, I feel like we did get, but I'm glad that Ezra has somebody who seems like they actually care about dancing and doing better and like having a good time.
18:49So I'm excited for that for him. Going first on the very first week, I think you're just bound to get a low score because they don't want to come out with like a banger. And so I think that I think they did good. They did the salsa to break my soul by Beyonce. And they did good. It definitely was a little bit stiff, but she's a gymnast. So I kind of expected that. And I think she has work to do, but they got fives, two fives. And I don't know, I feel like maybe they should have got one six. I don't know. Maybe not. But I feel like they did pretty good. And yeah, I'll talk more about that in a minute, maybe compared to other people's scores okay next one was Dylan Efron and Daniela I okay he got the exact same score as Jordan Ezra and well actually no they probably did pretty pretty close they did the cha-cha-cha to Milkshake which was a really weird song choice because it was it was supposed to be a song that like represented them and tell me how Milkshake represents Dylan Efron I don't know I I didn't hate it.
19:54Like, it's a catchy song. It was fun. But it was just an interesting choice for sure. I think they did really good. He has potential for sure. It kind of gave me Joey vibes from last season. And I think he'll go decently far. I don't know if I could say that I think he'll win, but I think he'll go pretty far. They also got two fives, which I don't know. I'm glad the judges are not coming out with huge like really high scores like they did last season like they came out with really high scores in the very beginning and then they kind of had nowhere to go like they started getting tens like week three and I don't feel like that's going to happen this time which I think will help this the stars improve more because they'll actually be like I want my score to go up you know what I'm saying and it'll be instead of just like because last time I feel like they got the same exact score every time like it was always sevens or always eights and it's kind of hard to bump up from that but like when you start lower and have more constructive feedback at the beginning I think there's more more places to go okay next one was Elaine and Alan doing the cha-cha-cha two woman by Kesha I thought this was so good I loved watching her I think she's iconic I freaking love the parent trap I was so excited to see her on the screen I love the opening or she had like the whole Meredith Blake thing going on and I think it was really good.
21:19I'm excited to see her and see what she can do. Next one was Whitney and Mark and they were doing the tango to Golden and they did, I was expecting, I was expecting them to freaking kill it and you know I think they did. I think they did great. I think that there is room to grow for sure but I think there's room to grow with all these people. I didn't expect anybody to be perfect but I think that these guys are going to go far. I do because I think Whitney has a huge fan base and so does Mark, which is kind of a stacked couple, if you ask me. Like Whitney and Mark together, I don't know. They're going to get a lot of fan votes regardless of their dance.
21:58But I also think she's really talented and will go pretty far. Next one was Barron and Brit. And I can't lie, I wasn't expecting a lot because normally, like the male athletes just don't really do that well, don't have a lot of rhythm for the most part. I know there's been exceptions for sure, but I was actually pretty, pretty impressed with him. He did really well. He did the Cha Cha Cha to You Can't Touch This by MC Hammer, which was a fantastic song choice. It was perfect. And I loved his hammer pants. They were an excellent touch. They got two fives, which I thought was fitting and it was good.
22:35I forgot to say Whitney and Mark score and Elaine and Ellen. Alain and Alan got two sixes Whitney and Mark got seven and an eight which I don't think it was meant to be an eight because Bruno accidentally knocked like locked it in as an eight but he did a seven so there's some there's some controversy on that but either way they got a 15 and yeah Baron and Britt I thought they did great I can't wait to see him do some more I hope they don't go home early I hope people kind of jump on the Baron train and realize that he has potential so yeah, we'll see how that goes. Next one was Alex and Val doing the cha-cha-ta-to circus by Britney Spears.
23:13And I, I didn't, I honestly don't follow Alex Earl very closely. So I didn't really know what to expect. I thought she did good. I thought she was really stiff and looked a little bit awkward, but I do think that she's going to go far because I think she has a huge fan base and so does Val. And I think she has a lot of potential. Like you can tell she really wants it. she's working hard. And yeah, I think it'll be good. Bruno's comment about her legs was, I mean, he's right. She has great legs and they're super long, but I'm like, you know, we don't need to comment on women's bodies every single time.
23:49Okay, next one. Scott and Riley doing the tango to Abracadabra by Lady Gaga. I thought this one was really, really good as well. I like this pairing. I think Scott and Riley will be really good together. I can't say I was blown away by any means. Like I honestly, it's kind of hard to remember their dance. It was, it was pretty forgettable to me, but I do think they have potential for sure. And I think he'll stick around for a while. Okay. Next one was Danielle and Pasha and they, okay. Scott and Riley got a 10 and Alex and Val got a seven or a 13. Sorry. I keep forgetting to say the scores. Danielle and Pasha, they got a 12.
24:26They got two sixes. They did the tango two stronger by Kelly Clarkson. and I was really excited to see her as well I honestly am not a huge boy meets world fan I didn't really watch it very much growing up but just watching like her intro package and I love Pasha he's I just love him I follow I mean I don't follow him but like I see him on TikTok all the time from Daniela and all that stuff and yeah I really like this pair and I think they'll do well I keep saying that about everybody honestly I I wish that we could keep people around for longer, but obviously we can't have a double elimination next week, so we'll see what happens.
25:02Okay, next one was Jen and Jan Wan. I can't remember how you pronounce his name. I'm totally butchering it for sure. They got 12. They got two sixes. They did a salsa to, I can't say the word, by Bad Bunny. I don't know what the name is. New Neuville. I am stupid. I'm sorry, but the judge's critique for them was that there was way too many lifts, and I agree. There was way too many lists. He's new. I understand that. He's going to have a little bit of a learning curve. She just had a baby and he was like flipping her all over the place. And I'm like, is this safe? Who knows? Maybe that was better for her.
25:40I don't know. But I, again, I'm really excited to see Jen. I think she's really talented and I think she's going to go far as well. Okay. Next one, Corey and Jenna, they got a nine, a four and a five. That was the lowest score. Well, no there's it was a tied for the low score they did the tango by by they did the tango too it's still rock and roll to me by billy jill and cory's hair kills me it is so bleach blonde it's like the perfect white blonde i don't know how he gets it to be that color but i saw a tiktok where they compared him to jack frost from the santa claus and it was so spot on so spot on he also reminds me a little bit of the porcupine from seeing.
26:20Just throwing that out there. I think he did. I think he did good. You can tell he's excited. I loved his energy. I love that he said, like, this will help him with his posture, with his scoliosis, and he's excited to do it. So, I just love when people are excited. I love it, and I'm here for it. Okay, next one, Brandon and Lauren. They got a 13, a 7, and a 6. They did the tango to Yes And by Ariana Grande, and I was I mean I wasn't shocked because she is in fifth harmony and she does a little bit of dancing but she did so so good I can't I was expecting a little bit of a higher score like I would have maybe like a seven and a seven I don't know I think she might have deserved two sevens for sure but she did really good I'm really excited to see her go I think she's gonna go pretty far.
27:11I love Brandon. He's one of my favorites for sure. And yeah, that's all I really have to say about that. Next one was Andy and Emma. And I love Andy. He is so funny. I just love watching him. His intro package was fun. Emma seems like she's so, so sweet. And she always gets paired with kind of like the older gentleman. And I don't know if it's just because she's so sweet. I don't know if she requests this or if it just kind of happens the way it happens. But I don't know. I think she does really well with it. And I thought her choreography was great. Obviously, he has some work to do, but like everybody does.
27:47Everybody does. And we'll see. I think he might be one of the first ones to go home. Although I would like to see him more because I think he's funny. Okay, next one was Hilaria and Gleb. And they got a 14, 7 and 7. They did the cha-cha-cha to Let's Get Loud by Jennifer Lopez. She did amazing. Truly, she did so good. I didn't realize that she was like kind of already a ballroom dancer, though, which is kind of weird to me that they would have her on I guess her and Whitney what everyone's everyone's freaking out because Whitney has past dance experience um I don't know I don't I can't say I really care that much because I'm just here to watch a good show so whatever but yeah I I didn't really know what to expect I don't know a lot about Hilaria Hillary I don't know however you say her name.
28:32I don't know a lot about her, but it was pretty impressed with her. Okay, last one was Robert and Whitney, and they got a 15, an 8, and a 7, and they did the jive to Born to be Wild, and I was expecting it to be good, but I was not expecting it to be this good. They did amazing. I think they should have gotten two 8s for sure, but again, it's kind of nice to start out with lower scores because then we can see more improvement and, like, there's somewhere to go. So the seven, I'm okay with that. But they did so good. He is gonna go far, for sure. He could win the whole thing. We'll see how next week goes.

29:13Maybe the jive was just like a really good dance for him. Who knows? But I'm excited to watch him. I think he's gonna do really, really good. And I know people wanted him paired with Riley, but I think Whitney is a really good choice for him. They danced perfectly together. I thought it was amazing. okay let's um move on let's go from dancing with the stars to actually first let me tell you my cousins and I did a dancing with the stars uh fantasy bracket is that what you got I don't know maybe I don't know we did a a bracket thing where a draft I guess and let me think let me who's on my team I have we each have four people so I have Lauren and Elaine Whitney and oh my gosh who's is my other one.
30:01Whitney, Elaine, Lauren, and oh my gosh, I can't remember. I can't remember. If I figure it out, I'll post it on Instagram. Why don't I remember? What is wrong with me? Anyway, okay. Let's, let's move on. I need to talk about something. You guys, you know exactly what it is. I need to talk about the summer I turned pretty. I watched the finale episode just barely right before I recorded this and I have, I have some thoughts and I took notes along the way. So let's just go down the list. I'm going to kind of walk you through the whole episode. If you haven't watched the finale, skip ahead because I am about to spoil the entire, entire thing.
30:47So skip ahead if you don't want to hear it or come back and listen to it later. Okay. Let's, let's start with the very beginning. Billy. Okay. Well, Well, Conrad is at Paris. He's walking in with his duffel bag. He knocks on Belly's door, rings her doorbell. She doesn't answer. And in my heart, I was like, oh my gosh, she's with Benito. I just know it. And she was. He watches her drive up on that stupid little scooter. And I see Benito and I'm like, get off of my freaking TV screen. I don't want to watch Conrad fight with another man for Belly. I don't want to watch it. I honestly thought they were broken up when I saw them together and they did like a little kiss.
31:24I kind of had some hope because I was like, okay, they didn't kiss on the lips. And I feel like if that was your boyfriend, you would kiss him on the lips. So I don't know. I was like, yeah, maybe they're not together. But either way, uh, Conrad was sad about it, which of course he would be sad about that. He's there to get his woman and he sees her with a man who she just kissed on the cheek. So anyway, uh, he leaves and then Belly sees Conrad and her reaction was not what I was expecting like I know she is super thrown off guard but like I I would have hoped to see like a little bit more like oh my gosh I love you like the look she gave him when she saw him at Susanna's memorial that's what I wanted and it kind of looked like she was annoyed when she saw him and maybe she was just thrown off and she's been spending all this time like trying to shove her feelings aside so maybe she's like I don't know kind of annoyed that he's there maybe that's what it felt like it felt like she was annoyed um and then okay then it jumps back to cousins well not cousins wherever they are it jumps back to jeremiah and we see jeremiah and denise and jeremiah is cooking and in my mind i'm like okay where did this whole cooking thing come from because it seems like the whole series we haven't seen him do anything with cooking and then we hear him talk about a chocolate cake and how much he loves it and that's really all we oh like the only hint we have that he likes to cook and then all of a sudden in the last three episodes he's like I'm a freaking chef now and I want to be Gordon Ramsay so we see him doing his cooking thing honestly I think it's really good for him I like I complain about it but I think it's really good for him it like gives him something to focus on and I actually really like him in the last two episodes, he kind of redeemed himself.
33:05I'm not going to lie. And him and Denise, I am here for it. I hope they go far. So far in the episode, we haven't seen them do anything. They're just kind of flirting. But like, I know it's going to happen for sure. Okay. Back to Conrad. Back to them walking around. Well, she tells him, he's like, okay, based on her reaction, it kind of seems like she doesn't want him there. So he's like, if you have stuff to do, fine, I can just like go sightsee of course he doesn't want that but she tells him like yeah I do have plans and that was kind of rude but then she's like I have plans at eight we can hang out until then and he's like okay great I'd love that so she takes him around Paris they are kind of like cold toward each other but I think it's because they both at least this is how I interpreted it they both have are like there's something in between them there's like an elephant in the room where she doesn't know exactly why he's there I mean she could probably assume that he's there to tell her he loves her because that's literally the last thing he said to her was that he loves her and he'll never not love her and maybe like he doesn't really know where she stands because he just saw her with a boy and so it's kind of awkward between the two of them and yeah I mean I like their little montage going through Paris you could see like some stolen glances here and there but yeah they're being kind of cold and kind of awkward towards each other and then it flips back to Stephen and Taylor and Jeremiah and Denise.
34:32And I don't know why they decided to pick another fight with Stephen and Taylor. All we receive from them is them fighting and I am over it. I don't want to see them fight anymore. And so they decide to fight about or the writers, whoever decides to throw in this whole thing about Stephen moving to San Francisco. And I'm like, okay, why? Because the whole show is set in cousins. And I know it's like the finale, whatever, and people are going to move on from their lives but like why San Francisco why is everybody leaving and Jeremiah is just gonna stay there all by his lonesome like what what what what is happening so uh she's also like freaking out and she hasn't even talked to him yet so I she needs to chill for just just one second and just call him before she gets freaking pissed okay back to Belly and Conrad they she kind of asks him where he wants to go he's like I don't know I want to see Paris from where you like how you see it and so she takes him to this rooftop and here I feel like I feel like we finally see them kind of act like themselves like we see them talking and they don't seem so awkward they kind of talk about the past a little bit she tells him he sounded like 10 year old him which was kind of a weird comment like the way she said it kind of sounded rude but like I don't think it was supposed to sound like that but yeah you can tell he's just like bursting at the seams he wants to tell her like, I love you.
35:55Will you be my girlfriend? And it's just kind of hard to read belly. Like as an audience, we, we can't really tell what she's thinking. It seems like she's annoyed that he's there. And we kind of think she might, like as an audience, we think she's still with Benito. So it's just kind of this weird, awkward thing. And then he, she asks him if he wants to go to the party with her. And of course he says, yes, he pretends like he doesn't want to, but like he does and they go to her apartment and get ready and of course he's wearing a button-down shirt with it tucked in he looks so fine and she's getting ready in the bathroom and he's looking around her apartment and he sees freaking pictures of her and Benito on the wall I'm like why why why I don't want to watch Conrad fight for Belly with another man I don't want to watch it I seriously am so over it I yeah I was all for the whole Benito fling because it gives Belly an opportunity to not have only slept with two brothers, you know, it gives her a little more experience with men.
36:55And I thought that was needed for sure. But I, they need to be over. They need to be over by now. I don't want to watch them. I don't, I don't want to watch Conrad fight for belly. I don't want to watch him and Benito go at it. I really don't. Also enough with Junior Men. I'm kind of over him as well. I know he's like a big, sorry, I know he's like a big character, but in the books, he's like not that big. Like I know he sends her Junior Mint, but this whole thing with like Junior Mint and then Infinity Necklace, I'm like, okay, I get the Infinity Necklace, but like, why do we have to tie Junior Mint into it?
37:29Like, why is that such a hard tie-in? I don't know. I'm kind of over it. He's like, why is he such a big character? I don't get it. Okay, the birthday party they go to the birthday party and honestly this whole scene like this whole setting I guess is my favorite part of the whole episode they start to relax a little bit Billy and Conrad her friends give her a lot of shiz about him and they talk about how they think it's romantic how he declared his love for her and it kind of like breaks the ice a little bit and then Benito was like uh so conrad why are you here and he's like well i want to see belly and he's like uh well why he was being so annoying to me i'm not even gonna lie and like when he when he's like well the train ride to brussels is not that far and he's like or he's like it's pretty close and he's like it's not that close i'm like shut shut up and then we get the reveal that belly had dumped him And I was like, I was so excited.
38:33I was like, yes, we are locked in. Like, we're locked in. And you could see it on Conrad's face, like, immediately. He's like, okay, that's my woman. Like, for sure, I'm going to get her. And I just loved the whole thing. Like, after they're done eating and then they're opening presents and he is there when she's blowing out the candles and I lost my freaking mind when she smokes the joint and then he says I thought you whatever white matter everyone's white matter and she's like do you memorize every little thing I said a call back to season one which I thought was amazing and then he immediately just says yes like yes yes yes yes I don't know how she doesn't know that he is there to marry her I don't know how she is not clocking that but she's not and then we go back to Jeremiah and Denise and everybody else and I'm just gonna sum up this whole thing because I'm sick of going back and forth and I was also sick of going back and forth in the show but they kept doing it so we get them Jeremiah and Denise finally kiss and I really like them together I think they're sweet I think um I think that's great I don't understand why they're gonna like build this whole thing up with them and then be like oh yeah Denise is moving to San Francisco and then they didn't even tie it up they didn't even explain what's gonna happen between the two of them like we just know Denise is going to move and they just kiss and Jeremiah's holding her hand.
39:56But we don't know what happens. That's it. We just that's it. I don't know. That seemed like a huge loose end to me. Okay, enough about them. And then Steven Taylor get back together. And they're like, we can handle any fight. I mean, they never broke up. But whatever they they get through it. She's like, yes, of course, I'll move to San Francisco with you. And duh, like if he would have just said, hey, I'm moving to San Francisco because I got the money for my company. She would have been like, absolutely. Like, of course she would follow him. So, duh. Duh, duh, duh. Okay. Next, let's just follow.
40:31Let's forget about everybody else. Let's go to Belly and Conrad because I really need to talk more about them. They go on a walk by the river and, of course, he gives her his jacket because he's just that guy. And they're walking by the river and they kind of bring up some stuff in the past and are just kind of talking then he asks her to dance which was so sweet and they're dancing of course and they start talking about prom and their conversation about prom was weird to me like how belly's like i wanted it to be this amazing thing and then we go to the hotel and then and then conrad's like and we make love and she's like yes conrad we had sex and that was i'm like that kind of took me out of the moment i was expecting a little more romance i was expecting a little bit better of an apology from Belly.
41:19Sorry, I've been talking so much that I have a tickle in my throat. I was expecting more of a little bit of an apology from Belly, but I think that they were teasing each other because then he says something about her being a little bitch and running away. So I think they were teasing each other. It just didn't come off that well in the first part of that. So yeah, anyway. And then they almost kiss. And then he says, like, why didn't you write me back right away? And she's like, well, I was trying to get over you and he's like well are you over me and then they start making out and this is where it all goes wrong for me honestly this is where it all goes downhill and let me tell you why they go they start making out she's like come back to my apartment and I'm like woo we're about to get spicy so they make out in the taxi like the taxi driver should probably call the police for indecent exposure because I'm sure there was things hanging out and then they go to the stairwell and they continue to make out and they don't even make it okay actually I need sorry this is going to be kind of graphic but he's touching the handrail and then she grabs his hand and like puts it you know in her legs uh he was just touching the dirty handrail like he needs to wash his hands before he does any of that so that kind of icked me out but yeah I mean that wasn't like the main focus of the event don't get me wrong the scene was great the whole whole thing was great they go it was the bedroom obviously they finally make it there and then afterwards they're just cuddling and she says something I can't remember what she says I don't remember what she says how do I not remember anyway he says and now you're stuck with me forever and she gets this look on her face and she's like um yeah I don't know and then she's like okay uh basically she tells him to leave like she's like you need to go get on your train and he's like well I don't know maybe I could stay a little bit longer and she gets up and she's like I need to go pee so I don't get a UTI which I'm like girl like I get it we know but like we don't we don't need to know like they didn't need to add that into the script because it just it takes you out of the moment when they talk about peeing okay so she goes in the bathroom she looks at her phone everyone thinks that she's looking for a text from Jeremiah which maybe she was and if that's true then that makes this whole thing worse because why was she looking for a text from Jeremiah I think she was just looking at her phone though I'm hoping that's what it was but she goes to the bathroom and then she comes back out and she has this whole crash out about I don't know he asks her like are you mad or did I do something wrong and she's like why are you here like what are you expecting sorry I keep coughing she's like why are you here what are you expecting and he's like I love you like what do you mean and she's like well how do you know you love me how like of course I and well okay then when he says you don't love me anymore just rip out my heart and stomp on it why don't you that was I'm like my girl if you don't run over to that man and like kiss him right now I'm gonna scream and yeah I had to scream because she did not do that she's like of course I love you I've always loved you but like I don't know if I really do she's like do we just love each other because we were told to which doesn't make sense to me because like that's not their whole arc you know like she the whole thing is like she loves him because she loves him and she is so insecure about it because she she doesn't believe that he loves her in the same way that he she loves him does that make sense like the whole thing about Susanna and her saying like he loves her because of his mom like that that just seemed so out of the blue for me and obviously seemed out of the blue for Conrad too because he's like like I don't love you because my mom told me to hold on let me get a drink
45:07sorry he's like um I don't love you because my mom told me to like I love you because I love you and he tells her he's tried everything to not love her and she's still not getting it she's still not getting it. What I don't understand is like, why did she sleep with him? She knows how he feels. She knows how he feels. He's poured it out to her time and time again. Why would she sleep with him if she's going to turn around and be like, why are you here? Like she knows why he's there. That's that she knows. And when she kissed him, she was basically, I mean, I feel like that was her way of saying like, no, I'm not over you.
45:42Like, I'm not ready to let you go. But then she kind of post this 360 thing which I did not like and then he leaves he's crying it's heartbreaking and also I'm like I didn't need that I don't need to see Conrad heartbroken again it's happened so many times now she's rejected him time and time and time again and it makes it less believable that they'll end up together or that they should end up together when she's she's dumped him 400 times You know, like, why are we getting so much of this? Why do we keep seeing her reject him over and over and over again? And supposedly he still loves her? Like, I don't understand.
46:20Also, let me just go on a little side tangent here. The whole four year time jump is so stupid. It's stupid. And I know people are like, well, they didn't want them to have a teenage wedding. I don't care. I don't care. That seems less important to me than the whole time jump. because four years of dating his brother and then I don't know I just that just pissed me off it like ruins the whole dynamic of the whole show and it it just makes everything way less believable it makes Conrad look a little pathetic and so I just pretend in my mind that it was only two because I don't like the idea that her and Jeremiah dated for four years and they were like they had a relationship like an intimate relationship and they were dating for four years.
47:02That's crazy to me that she's just gonna, I don't know. So I pretend like that didn't happen and I really hate that part. Also, okay, let's, let's go back to where we were. He leaves because she tells him to and he goes and gets on his train and he's heartbroken. He's crying. She goes and looks at her phone and her mom sent her a picture of herself. And then she has this like come to Jesus moment where she's like, you know what? I do love him. And I don't know why like looking at her younger self like I'm just maybe I just don't understand the symbolism of it but while looking at that picture she was suddenly like yeah I I do love him like how did she not know that how did she not know that oh and the other thing she says to him she's like I wish I was as sure as you are and the first time I watched it I'm like she's saying that she's not sure she loves him but now that I think about it I think what she's saying is like she's not as sure of his love as he is Like she's not as sure that he loves her as he is that he loves her.
48:00Does that make sense? I think that's kind of what she meant. Maybe not. But then she follows him to the train and she gets on the train. Also, her outfit is ugly. I'm sorry. But like watching her run in that outfit, I was like, this is not doing it for me. And I, it's nothing about her at all. I love Lola Tongue. I just was not feeling the outfit. I'm like, if you're chasing after your man, I know you had to get dressed fast. but like put something cuter on okay put something cuter on anyway I know that that that doesn't make sense and that's just a really stupid trivial opinion that I have but anyway uh she runs to the train she finds him she's like is this seat taken he's obviously been crying since he left and she's like Conrad I choose you I'm like that was the worst thing you kind of said because how many times during this season, we've heard her say to Jeremiah, I choose you.
48:55And at this point, those words mean nothing to me because she didn't choose Jeremiah. She chose Conrad. But she continually told Jeremiah that she told him that she chose him. And so I don't know, I was just expecting some different verbiage maybe on her little love confession. But her saying like, I choose you just fell a little flat for me. Like I wish she would have just been like, I love you I know that I love you instead of being like I choose you because it just makes it like this competition thing which it wasn't like Conrad it's it's never been about a competition for him ever and so her saying I choose you means that she's like I had other options but I'm going to set them aside because I choose you um yeah I didn't love it and I did like the whole infinity thing where she turns the necklace around and she's wearing the infinity necklace I really without that part.
49:43And then the whole case was great. And then it just jumps to them holding hands in the car and them going to the summer house alone. And we just end with this like panorama shot of them at the summer house all by their lonesome. I don't, I don't, I don't like it. I don't like it at all.
50:05Yeah, I, I wish that, I wish, okay, here's what I'm mad about. We didn't get a Valentine's Day flashback. What? Why? We had this whole thing about the number 14 throughout the whole freaking season and it didn't come up anywhere. It had nothing. Like who? Nothing even mattered about number 14. We had no Valentine's Day flashback. We also had no Susanna letter. There's no letter from Susanna. There's no wedding. There's no Susanna's ring. There's, there's no um what else was there oh there's no them jumping into the ocean and her saying like we're infinite this is when it becomes real like that whole line is really important to me and it's important to the whole freaking fan base and it did that was a total miss on in my opinion and if this is the end it can't be the end honestly it can't be the end because there's all this this also this stupid little thing in the end with the Christmas photo book of them taking the same picture 400 different times I didn't need to see the same picture of them opening empty boxes they're clearly empty boxes 400 times and who's taking the pictures also like do they have a self timer camera or something because who's taking these pictures and there's got to be more like there's got to be a Christmas special there's got to be something because why would they end a summer show on a Christmas montage.
51:31That doesn't make any sense to me. And I don't know. I really did like, I liked the song choices for this, for this episode. Some songs I wish we would have gotten was, I wish we would have, here, here's my, here's what I would have liked. I would have liked to hear, um, Come Back, Be Here by Taylor Swift. I wish that Belly would have, like, they wouldn't have slept together. Maybe they kissed and then they kind of left it at that. And Conrad's like, I love you. And he's like, you don't have to give me an answer right now. I just needed to come here and tell you that I still love you. And she's like, yeah, I can't give you an answer right now.
52:09And he's like, well, can I see you before I leave? And she's like, yeah, I don't know, maybe. And so he leaves and goes to his conference and he's like a little bit heartbroken. And he's like, she's not going to come find me or no no let me backtrack he goes to his conference he is heartbroken he's like she doesn't love me she let me go blah blah blah and then she is sitting in her apartment and that song starts playing come back be here and she's like you know what this it's sinking in that she loves him and she doesn't want him to leave so then she goes to the conference she finds him she confesses her love she says i love you she doesn't say i choose you she says i I love you.
52:50And then they do whatever. Or I would have liked to see even him go back to Cousins and then her come find him at Cousins. I just wanted her, I don't know, like the ending where they sleep together and then she kicks him out and then she changes his mind in that split second. That just felt weird to me. I didn't like it. I didn't want to see his heart broken that hard. I didn't want to see it. Another song I really wish I would have heard was, and maybe this is me being delusional maybe it wouldn't even fit in but um everything has changed by taylor swift and ed sheeran i saw some edits i know i'm like way too chronically online of of that song with them and i'm like this is perfect or even like begin again that would have been perfect also i just wish there was more like i know they had to make a finale and make it like you know on the edge of your seat type thing but i wish that we could have seen them like have a little more happy moments together where like belly just seemed what was missing from it was that belly wasn't yearning enough she wasn't yearning for him like we've seen conrad yearn for her and so it just fell a little bit flat like i don't know i don't know what it was like we saw it a little bit here and there like when she was flirting for it with him but also she kind of seemed like she was being a little bit uh i don't know condescending maybe was was the word like I don't know it just seemed kind of weird to me and maybe I'm just mad because I didn't we didn't get like the perfect tight end about ending that I thought we were gonna get I don't know I'm hoping that this is not the end and that there's something else coming because that can't be it that really can't be it there's too many loose ends there's way too many loose ends we didn't really figure out what happened with her parents we didn't really we don't know what's going to happen with Jeremiah and Denise and Billy and Conrad.
54:41Like, we don't see Billy see her. We don't see Billy and Taylor again. We don't see Billy and her mom again. We don't see Conrad and Jeremiah. We don't see them with their family and everything again. And that felt weird to me. So I'm hoping there's something where, like an epilogue episode or something, that we get a little bit more of them together because I don't know. Also, I just can't get over. I can't get over the last five minutes. The last actually more like is like 15 minutes. It just I wish it wouldn't have gone that way. I wish it would have gone any other way. But yeah, anyway, at the same time, I still loved it.
55:20Like I'm not even gonna lie. I still loved it. I will watch it again for sure. I don't like I don't have any there's people out there who are being like really freaking mean to the writer of the show and the writer of the books and they're like, this is not what we wanted. It's not that deep for me. You know, it's, it's fine. It's just a show. And I do like the show for sure. But like, I'm gonna be fine. It'll be fine. And yeah, anyway, thank you guys for listening to my The Summer I Turned Pretty rant and recapping Dancing with the Stars and all of that. Yeah, I hope you guys have a great rest of your week.
55:55I'll be back again next Tuesday, for sure. If you guys haven't already, please, please, please share this with your friends. Tell them about the podcast. That's the best way to grow the podcast. And it is, I don't know what I was going to say. I was going to repeat the same exact thing. But anyway, yeah, it's the best way to grow the podcast. And I will see you guys next week. If you want to be participating in the episodes, make sure you follow along on Instagram at my sister's diary podcast. That's where I post all of the links and all of the ways to submit your stories. So anyway, okay. I love you guys.
56:31Bye.

This week’s diary entry is a little all over the place (in the best way).
I’m running down the list on my phone and letting you in on everything:
- Weaning my baby, the grief + hormones that come with it, and why my boobs hurt so bad I can’t put my arms down (warning: things no one ever told me about nursing).
- Taylor Frankie Paul as the Bachelorette?? My thoughts on why maybe she needs a solo season of life first.
- SLOMW trailer breakdown: who’s still friends, who cheated, and who's coming back next season.
- DWTS recap: scores, music, dances, and my unsolicited opinions.
- TSITP season finale: Belly, Conrad, Jeremiah, Benito (ugh), that birthday party scene, and my unfiltered opinion.
It’s a mix of motherhood, pop culture, and my opinions that nobody asked for. Basically, all the things I’d write in my diary but instead say out loud.
