AI-Generated "Workslop" Is Harming Productivity

That's AI-generated work that looks polished, looks good, but doesn't actually move the project forward.

In our survey, about 50 % of the participants said they viewed their colleagues as less creative after they received work slop from them, and less capable, and even less reliable. It also damaged trust. They said that they trusted their colleagues less, and 37 % of them said that they thought their colleagues were less intelligent. Each instance of work slop takes about two hours for an employee to fix, which leads to an invisible work slop tax of about$186 per month. For an org of about 10 ,000 people, that's nearly$9 million in lost annual productivity.

1:55Even worse, about a third of our employees said they didn't want to collaborate with a person after they received WorkSlot from them. Over time, that weakens teamwork and culture. So what should leaders do to prevent WorkSlot from bogging their teams down? First, be selective. Don't push Use AI Everywhere mandates. Remind your folks to use AI where it's useful and not use it where it's not. Second, model the pilot mindset. Remind people that they have purpose and use AI for that purpose. That's what's going to matter, not simply cutting costs or cutting effort. And the third, recommit to collaboration.

2:32Use AI to enhance teamwork, not negatively affect your teammates. Ultimately, people that are overburdened or burnt out are the ones that will produce the most work slot.
