Someone who is constantly trying to one-up you? I am here to answer your toughest leadership questions in one minute or less. I have an arch nemesis at work. All right, that's an exaggeration, but I do have someone I always seem to be competing with for raises, for the best projects.
1:15I really try to focus on the work itself, but sometimes my competitiveness just takes over. How do I better deal with a peer who always seems to be trying to one-up me? Okay. So one of my favorite quotes, and forgive me because now I'm forgetting who said it, is comparison is the thief of joy. On that note, I'm going to ask that the first thing that you do in this situation, which can be really, really tough, I can completely empathize with you, is to focus on your own lane, right? There's such a thing that's set around like cleaning up your own aisle before you look at somebody else's aisle. So what I want you to do is make sure that what you're doing is actually living up to all of the desired accomplishments, outcomes, objectives of your role before you focus on anybody else.
2:00And if you don't know what those are, then you should ask. OK, that's first. Secondly, I think, you know, there's two ways of looking at competition. Somebody who is working with you, they can either act as intimidation or they can act as motivation. Might you have something to learn from what this person is doing that you can also emulate and use as part of your own repertoire to advance your career? That's the question I'd leave you with. Best thing that's ever happened to you financially. Go. Easy. Sold my car on Carvana. Amazing offer. Really? I hit 200 on a scratcher. Did the scratcher come to your house and hand you a check?
2:35No. How many scratchers did you hit to get that? I hit a button on Carvana.com once. Okay, that's fair. It's like the lottery, except you always win. Not like the lottery at all, actually. Exactly. Inexplicably good. Offers worth bragging about. Sell your car today on Carvana. Pickup fees may apply. Have no fear. Chosen Foods is here to defend your favorite foods from the forces of seedy oils and sketchy ingredients. With cooking oils, salad dressings, and mayo, all powered by the good fats from 100 % pure avocado oil and simple, delicious ingredients. Chosen Foods. Some personality quirks are really funny.
3:12Like, I talk to my left foot more than I talk to my right. You know what's not funny and not a personality quirk? OCD. Although the term OCD is widely recognized, it's misunderstood by most people. It doesn't mean being tidy or clean. It's having obsessive fears, thoughts, and urges. You question your character. You question your safety. That's OCD. Breaking the OCD cycle takes effective treatment. Go to NoCD.com to learn more.
