In short
Making a team’s work more transparent/visible to ensure results are recognized by the right audiences.
Guest backgrounds
No guests are mentioned; the only named voice is Ryan Reynolds in a Mint Mobile ad.
Key claims
Good work isn’t enough if others don’t know about it; managers should understand each person’s career goals and interests, then communicate impact to multiple audiences (boss, peers, leadership/influencers) using both informal and formal channels (water-cooler talks, status reports, meetings).
Notable examples
Use data analytics praise only if the person wants that path; support claims with facts/figures and ideally client/customer quotes showing how the work made customers’ lives easier.

You may think as a boss that your team is doing great work, delivering results, hitting its deadlines, but I've got news for you. It's not enough to just do good work. If no one knows about it, what's the point?
1:08I recently wrote an article for Harvard Business Review called How to Make Your Team's Work More Visible. It starts with really knowing your people, knowing where they want to go with their careers, knowing what they enjoy doing, and knowing what they want to do more of. There's really no sense in singing the praises of one of your team members and how well they did in a data analytics project if they don't want to do data analytics for their careers. So you really need to understand what your people are looking for. The most important thing is that you think broadly. You think about the different kinds of audiences that you want to reach.
1:44This is, of course, your boss. These are your peers. These are your boss's boss and also influencers in the organization. These are people, you know who they are, who seem to have their finger on the pulse of everything that's going on. Think small. Think about those casual conversations that you're having at the water cooler with your peers, with your boss, and think about the more formal channels, the status reports, the progress updates, meetings that you attend. Try to answer three questions when you are having these conversations. Number one, how does it help the individual and their career growth?
2:16Two, how is it helping the organization? And three, this last one's important. How does it help the boss? People lose sight of the fact that your job as a manager is you're making your boss look good. Anyone who's ever taken a creative writing class knows show, don't tell. Use facts, use figures, explain how the person is really having an impact. Even better if it comes from a client. It's not just you who's saying it. It's the actual customers who are saying this has made our life easier, our work better. Hi, Ryan Reynolds here for Mint Mobile. Are you looking for a beach read this summer? May I suggest your big wireless bill?
2:55It's got suspense, mystery, a slightly flat emotional arc, and a shocking twist where you realize you've been overpaying the entire time. Fortunately, though, Mint's story is better.
