In short
A one-minute leadership Q&A about handling “office politics” after a promotion to vice president, where senior leaders allegedly manipulate decisions against the company’s best interests.
Guest backgrounds
The transcript doesn’t name or describe the host or the caller; it only says the host answers leadership questions and that the caller was promoted earlier this year to VP level.

I am here to answer your toughest leadership questions in one minute or less. Earlier this year, I was promoted to the vice president level, kind of a dream promotion. But since then, it's been a bit of a nightmare trying to navigate the politics of the senior leadership team, many of whom seem to manipulate and do things against the best interests of the company.
1:16Did I make the wrong choice in taking this promotion? Okay, well, first of all, congratulations on your promotion. That's a big deal. Very, very proud of you. Listen, I think what's happening is you're operating in a different field. OK, so it's just like if you went from, you know, playing tennis, let's say, on the concrete courts and now you're playing on the clay courts or the grass courts at Wimbledon. Same game, but it's going to require a different level of skill. One of the things that I'm going to ask you to do is really reframe your sense of what it means to navigate here, particularly in terms of using the term politics.
1:59I think the minute you start thinking about politics, you might have a negative connotation to it. Perhaps you ought to think about it in terms of stakeholder management, stakeholder relationships. How are things done at this level? What are the conversations and discussions and relationships that need to be had in order to get things done? So really think about it in terms of relationships and stakeholders and understanding how things need to get done so that then you can navigate it accordingly. The most memorable gifts aren't found.
