Chevrolet. Together let's drive. We know that being strategic is an essential leadership practice, don't we? But it can be really hard to do. My name's David Lansfield. I'm a C-suite advisor and coach. And in my recent HBR article, I set out some practical ways to do this.

1:09First is to focus on the critical actions, decisions, discussions, the difficult conversations, negotiations that have a disproportionate impact on the strategy. The second is to focus on the biggest problem in each of those moments. What do you need to overcome to make progress? Or in a reframe. What opportunity do you need to pursue? Then consider the choices you have in each of those moments. That's where to focus, what to do, how to show up, what impact to have. And then consider what skills do you need to master in each of those moments? It could be how to negotiate effectively, how to tackle conflict, how do you enhance those skills, whether it's learning from an inspiring colleague, taking advice from a mentor, or using technology.

1:48Throughout all of this, you'll have to tackle potential conflicts and tensions between what you want to consider and do with that of the team and also the organisation? Think about a reframe. How do you turn what may be considered an operational task to something more innovative and growing, which you might consider more attractive from your own personal perspective? Supporting all of this is marshalling the resources you need to do your best work, whether it's the mental, physical, relational, or environmental, good food, exercise, sleep, good colleagues around you, and finding a good place to work.

2:18It is possible to overcome these obstacles if you consider and use strategy every single day. So where will you start? Stitch Fix. Stop shopping. Get styled. A plus on the outfit, Miss Turner.
