In one study, researchers found some surprising things about the way we express gratitude. They asked 331 online gig workers to solve an unsolvable puzzle. Some of the participants were linked before completing the task while others were linked after.
1:10They found that people who were linked before the task reported greater feelings of social worth. In the second study, the researchers asked 330 new subjects to complete a solvable but difficult geometric puzzle. And again, they found that expressing gratitude in advance was significantly associated with social worth, even more so than expressing other positive sentiments like hope. If you're trying to motivate or support someone at work, showing them gratitude before they go into a stressful situation really pays off. But for your gratitude to come across as genuine, it needs to include a few things.
