In short
The episode is a wide-ranging hangout covering food news (Taco Bell’s Crispy Chicken Crunchwrap Slider returning with a spicy kick), travel and LA/California culture, celebrity sightings at the Chateau Marmont (notably Steven Dorf and Kanye/“Ye”), and pop-culture “service journalism” debates (e.g., why Don Toliver is everywhere). They also argue about fashion/merch definitions, discuss stand-up style (Joe Coy), and review the HBO show “Sharon Horgan’s” Youth.
Guests
Chris and Jason (the hosts). No other guests appear in the transcript.
Guest backgrounds
Chris and Jason are co-hosts of How Long Gone; Jason is frequently described as traveling for AI-related business and as a dog owner/dog mom; both reference entertainment work (Jason mentions writing/speaking for Ringer/Spotify; they discuss modeling and media appearances).
Key claims
A six-year-old shouldn’t say “digital tips.” “Merch” requires the person’s name. Don Toliver feels overexposed and needs an explainer. Youth’s music supervision uses needle drops that can be “zero or infinity” budget.
Notable examples
Venmo tipping at a lemonade stand; Steven Dorf at 4 p.m. with pina coladas; Kanye/Ye at Chateau Marmont; Don Toliver/Coachella with Kelly Uchis; Vivette (Kai Cenat) hoodie unboxing; Joe Coy’s custom-looking outfit; Youth includes Radiohead “Everything in Its Right Place.”

The slider-sized crunchwrap with nuggets inside you loved the first time, now with a spicy kick you're gonna love this time. Hidden Valley Diablo Ranch. Or you could order some crispy all-white meat nuggets on their own. Pretty sure you love those anytime. Every time. Okay, all of the times. The Crispy Chicken Crunchwrap Slider. A brand new classic is back. Only at Taco Bell. I participate in U.S. Taco Bell locations for a limited time and while supplies last.
0:50How long gone? A beautiful day here in Palo Alto, Jason. and I'm sitting here on the ninth floor of the Four Seasons staring out into the mountains. I see the water. I also see the backside of an Ikea and Amazon building as well. So I feel like I'm getting the full kind of experience. So far, so good.
1:08Jason Stewart:Okay. You got the front side and the backside of P-Alto. And I think that's pretty cool. You're obviously there for AI-related business. Shout out to all of our people in the space. Yeah, so you're up there. your star linking you you took the what did you go lax to sfo no you didn't have the the wherewithal or the presence of mind to do burbank did you well none of these i should have honestly because but it wasn't that bad i don't really mind well i didn't run a car because this trip was so quick so if i don't have to return the car it really the the lax thing you know it took 45 minutes it wasn't that terrible you know it wasn't it wasn't the end of the world your big asses curbside Yeah, I was bummed we drove in my car a couple days ago.
1:54Jason Stewart:I just washed it this morning, finally. I just finally had the chance, so I felt bad that we were... That we were whipping? Stepping out on the town with a dirty whip. It was, honestly, riding in your car, it felt like we were teenagers, kind of. I feel like I never do that for some reason. I feel like you never drive me around, as much as you like driving. Driving in your car. I never, never want to go home. Because I haven't got one It's true. It doesn't work out that much anymore. I mean, once you get older, you know, everyone just goes, you meet at the spot. You know what I mean? Everyone's like, eh, I'll see you there and I'll go home.
2:35It's weird though, because when you dropped me off at Air One, you did ask me for gas money, which I was going to not, I wasn't going to bring up, but I guess since you. I accept digital tips now.
2:46Jason Stewart:Cash is always preferred, but I can't do digital. I sit down and you just put a Venmo sticker on the dashboard for me to scan when I get in the car. Mr. Black, was there something wrong with the ride today? Yeah, I did something. I thought the air conditioning was at the right temperature that you requested. Is there something wrong? No, actually, speaking of Venmo, Venmo tipping a couple days ago, there was the classic neighborhood lemonade stand, a couple of local kids. Yeah, nice, nice. I was walking the dog, getting my relax on, working on my circadian rhythms, and these kids started screaming at me, you know, lemonade, basically forcing me to go over there.
3:24Jason Stewart:And they were selling some pretty good stuff. They had little chomp sticks. Pretty good stuff. They had seaweed snacks. Bitch, that's not good stuff. I want homemade. They're getting that shit from Costco and marking it up. That's not real. No, I want homemade cookies. I want homemade shit. They had no lemonade, but it was only CPG products. God damn it. I mean, I also only want homemade, but I don't think people sell homemade shit like that anymore unless you're a true street vendor. Kids aren't selling homemade stuff. I saw some kids actually over the summer in the Hamptons that looked homemade.
3:57Some of the lemonade, which would make sense because the nanny helps them do it. And they don't really have to. The parents aren't around to deal with it.
4:04Jason Stewart:I mean, if I was selling shit on the side of the road, people are going to look at me and be like, I don't know. Did you wash your hands, King? Like, what's going on? Yeah, that's true. But anyway, they're like, you know, come by. They had these yogurt snacks that Carolyn's like, oh, those are actually really like the girlies are eating those for the probiotics or whatever. Okay. Okay. It was all this shit. And they're like, yeah, it's cash only. I'm like, sorry, guys. I don't have any cash. I'll come back next time when I have cash. And then the next morning, we're walking down the street. And then the kids start yelling again, Venmo, now accepted.
4:42Jason Stewart:And then I went over there. I was like, all right, let me get$5 worth of fucking seaweed snacks or whatever. And then this little kid's like, digital tips are also accepted. Bro, I would have slapped. How old was he? How old was he? Oh, six, maybe. If you're six years old, you should not be able to say the phrase digital tips. That feels fucked up to me. I'm not cool with that. I'm not cool with that at all. This is a very smart, well-spoken young child. Is he on the Lego spectrum? Who knows? And if you're the daddy of these kids and you secretly listen to this podcast, I mean no ill will. Your kids are awesome.
5:21Jason Stewart:You're awesome. I know so many Lego kids that are going to rule the world. but he was speaking he was getting his young sheldon on with me and it was it was you know for for a two-minute interaction we had a chuckle what i would have i i would have brought a i would have come back later with a crumbled up 20 and threw it in his face like i'm joe budden at the strip club that ain't i'm not doing all that you ain't gonna tell me you want a digital tip for setting me with the digi i mean that's just that's just like that's honestly barista culture is affecting our children and that's kind of what i'm that's what i'm most concerned with you know I know.
5:55Jason Stewart:And it really, I mean, and I don't have kids, so I don't know about it. But, you know, as a dog owner, as a dog mom, you know, the society really just, it just, your child and your dog are training us how to just facilitate treats. Real talk. And sometimes those treats are like dehydrated chicken gizzards. And sometimes the treats are special coins that I can buy more Legos with. Either way, it works for me. But when I was riding in your whip, I will say you keep the seat. I think the reason I felt like I was in high school is, I mean, we were listening to NTS, so we weren't listening to the Snoop Dogg tape I had to hide under my bed.
6:41Jason Stewart:It wasn't the chronic 2001. It was NTS Mix Temporal Cove, untitled Halo. Temporal Cove. It's a great look. It was a great, the most recent one. shout out i know um i know all the halos listen to the pod but good job it was good whatever let's do i was very interested thank you if you do an nts show don't talk on it that's what carolyn's like i love nts but as soon as a bitch starts talking it's over so if you do thank you for sending my subscription by the way that was really nice of you i really appreciate that i bless chris finally with the nts for for a year you know he's got my hulu and my nts you've been using it kick the tires i don't use the hulu um i never got the login correct but i gave you my youtube tv and i I don't feel like you use that either, do you?
7:23Or do you?
7:23Jason Stewart:No, the problem is I forgot that you gave it to me and I signed up for it. And then when I go to log in, I had to log out of Chris and Alex and I was like, oh, God damn. YouTube TV would be taxing. But what I'm saying about your car is I didn't even mind that it was a little unwashed after your world travels. But I felt like the reason I felt like I was in high school, the seats were low, bro. I felt like I was in the bucket. We're too old to be sitting that way. It's hard to get out. You know what I mean? What? Come on, bro. I don't love that. I think that's why I like SUVs, even though I don't have any use for them and I don't carry around stuff.
7:56I feel like I just like to sit up high. Many people do. Not on some man shit, but I know you're trying to max out the handling. So you need to be low to the ground to take those corners.
8:08Jason Stewart:Yeah, I mean, we get 100 tokens on the game and we got to spread it out however you want to. And I don't think it's a masculinity thing wanting to sit up high. No, no. It's usually more of a female trait. no shade to you but you know i think women all the women in my life like sitting up high sorry okay all right didn't mean for that to be a joke i assure you but i think you know the the looking up i'm i already see high you know what i mean so a regular car because it balances things out it's normal for me like i always say if i'm talking to somebody and i you know i dig a foot foot deep hole in the ground and stand in it and i'm like oh this is how everybody who's you know five nine i didn't think about this i didn't think about this you're absolutely right you're absolutely right this is this is you sort of we're chopping you off at the knees when you climb in the benzo it's a different it's it's necessary for you to see how the the other 99 of us have to live that's right well you're not in that you know you're still you're still a tall guy don't worry but i i you're i just don't want the public to think that i have like a dropped honda civic no no this is a regular stock no class vehicle no your toyota your toyota celica with exhaust is low as hell to the ground it's scraping and it does have it does have lights underneath i will say that my japanese right hand drive supra my skyline that came over on one of the boats three years ago oh god oh god so but it feels i think it's because whatever it was a Saturday afternoon, Sunday afternoon.
9:43Jason Stewart:It's a weekend in California, middle of summer. It's 80 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, listening to some fucking, you know, Elliott Smith B-side or whatever, you know, guided by voices ass song. And then we're just zipping around Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard, you know what I mean? And it takes you back to a Doug Ellens entourage time of LA that is forgotten. Oh, yeah. Yeah, there's nothing like... What are we going to do today? I don't know. Probably get a smoothie. Check out some chicks at the mall. Yeah, that's exactly what we did. You took me to Erewhon and Silver Lake and dropped me off so I could see Katie and her new baby.
10:23It was exactly like Entourage. It was amazing.
10:25Jason Stewart:I went home. I fucking... I hit the tornado and I hit the tornado and played Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 for, I don't know, like 11 hours. Woke up, went to the club. What's the move tonight? Are we hitting LAX? Or like, what's the plan? Yeah, I must have that all in the brain because I did Yassi Salik's Bandsplain yesterday for the Ringer and Spotify Podcast Network. And we were sort of reminiscing about those years and those times that we both kind of came up in. She was coming down from the valley and I was coming up from the OC. Wow, and we've met in the middle. That's actually beautiful.
11:06That's poetic.
11:07Jason Stewart:Yeah, meet me in the middle like Zed, bro. boy you look like a zed song whatever happened to maryn morris being on this podcast she's it i i email the record label have my note my talking notes from when we were supposed to have her on like nine months ago now at this point i i email columbia records probably once every three months to check on that and they're always assuring me that she will come on uh it's just not right now whatever the time is it's not right now it will happen my one note that i have for her is is it true that you are the thinking man sabrina carpenter i don't know why i said that or how that popped into my mind but hopefully she wrote a song she she wrote a song about you so tall guys one of my favorites uh from her catalog you know let's not forget that let's not forget that um we all have a type i had a crazy thing not crazy but i just had a surreal moment yesterday in los angeles at the pool of the chateau marmont period and i kind of go down there and there's the usual mix of like you know euro also russian like wearing streetwear guy burner looking dudes you know what i mean with their chicks no wait i don't know if i know what you mean that was a little too you just there's like a lot there's like two guys and one of them looks sort of like a like a burning man wizard kind of guy with like clothes that unidentifiable clothing and then his homie who's got a hot girlfriend who's he's wearing all pally and like it looks like he shops at maxfield and then more of their friends come meet them and it just it starts to look crazy i think burning man wizard at the chateau pool seems like somebody there should do something about that well i mean like it's too wrong no these burning man wizards got bread baby that's the thing they're they're their check clears obviously just as much as ours does but i sit down on a second row pool chair so i can get a little sun i'm gonna read a little bits end of the day i look over steven dorf next to me and i was i was like this is a real full circle dorf let me let me break this down for you dorf and his homie shirtless with jeans on smoking cigs drinking pina coladas 4 p.m and i was like also 4 p.m on a monday monday i was like does this get is the is there anything cooler than this is there anything cooler than being steven dorf shirt off jeans with solomons on drinking a pina colada smoking four cigarettes in 30 minutes jeans and solomons huh it was a crazy and then there was a couple in front of him that were clearly kind of you know like they look like sort of young uh well-to-do but from austin or like or or charlotte or something and they had struck up a conversation with him they might not have known who he was and they were like are you having a pina colada he's like yeah i got a picture behind in the bar.
13:54You guys want one? Goes and grabs them a pina colada, gives it to him. I'm like, man, this guy rocks.

18:14Cause I'm like, man, I wonder what, what, you know? Um, and, and he was like, yeah, I, I realized that he's from Atlanta.
18:21Jason Stewart:Oh really? Born and raised. We're born. And then I think because he was like a, a pretty young actor, he moved to LA pretty, pretty soon after that. So can we even call him a true forever? I love Atlantean. I don't know if I, I don't know if I can claim peace up a town down. I don't know if I can, I don't know if I can, uh, I can do that. I don't know. Zone six Dorf. I mean, obviously you can't, but I'm talking about him. You know, I, I don't think he's trying. I think he's so, he seems so, uh, you know, he's such a Hollywood fixture that I feel like it feels like he's from the Valley. You know, it feels like he was, it feels like he has to belong to Los Angeles spiritually.
19:01Jason Stewart:Well, one, one, I mean, the only connection I have to Steven Dorf is I was in a music video with him and in that music video he only wore jeans sneakers and no shirt on top oh so this is maybe his look i'll send you a photo of it a still from the video it's from britney spears every time video and i think now that steven dorf oh yeah this is great or if you know in the in the video he's like a pissed off abusive boyfriend they get into a fight he throws a vase against a wall and then britney spears allegedly kills herself in the bathtub like slits her wrist oh good grief he he jumps in the tub to save her and you know his body is looking good and it's all you know he's all wet oh no did i get blood all over my abs it's a little bit of blood on the abs blood on the abs so i'm wondering if now enough time has passed since you know it's been whatever 20 something, 20, 24 years or something since Britney Spears' every time video came out, is he trying to troll?
20:07Jason Stewart:Is he trawling for Y2K Clunch? Is he trying to get some baddies who are like, is that the guy from the Britney Spears video? Monday afternoon at four o 'clock? I don't think so. That's the thing. I think the timing of that feels like this is just how I live, baby. Every fisherman has their own little secret fishing holes they don't tell anyone else about. That's true. You know what I mean? Then at night, we're sitting in the lobby, fucking Ye and Bianca walk in. Do moi ass over here. Well, the dwarf thing was more, I was like, man, this is so cool. What a guy. That's just for me. One of the greats.
20:42Jason Stewart:He's probably not going to get mobbed the way Bianca will. Yeah, Ye doing anything feels crazy. like seeing Kanye West in any setting even the Chateau Marmont setting which is not a real setting is is it's like he's not a real person anymore to me um and I I was it's seeing him you know stroll through any sort of uh building with four walls is yeah you know what I'm saying it's like staggering to see I know what you mean it's staggering it's like you it's like watching it's like being a little kid and then going to Disneyland and Mickey Mouse is there talking to and you're like, what the? This ain't right.
21:19Jason Stewart:This is not real. But do you think that the Chateau has a code word for when Kanye is in the building? They say HH and then it's like, no, no, no, no. I mean, Kanye's here. Kanye's here. You know, maybe what I think some of them will call him, black mold in the building. I got eyes on him. I got eyes on black mold. He's coming through right now. Some of the older crew, some of the older, wider crew. it was a play on words there's a recent uh funny video going around of somebody claiming that they got black mold at the chateau marmont and we're trying to get their room calm it's really that video is really funny a lot of people seem to believe it and but he said i was there writing the biopic for elliot smith all summer or something like that like i was there for six months i need i got black mold i need you guys to repay me um yes i i saw a pitchfork story today um that's sort of investigating don tolliver which i haven't had a chance to read it yet but i'm very button time right now i'm very interested in this because don tolliver also seems fake to me and then i see him and he's selling out he's selling out arenas okay so what what is the what is the story exactly it's just sort of like it's just sort of like who the fuck is this guy kind of like you know it's sort of like don tolliver is everywhere but why right like he's on the he's on the the the shoes in texas song with drake he's done all like he yeah you're right he's a huge person he's gonna headline whatever night of rolling loud or or whatever the equivalent of that is i couldn't pick him out in a lineup and i don't know if i've ever listened to one of his songs or i've never played one of his songs either no i don't know any of it i mean i know he's affiliated with travis scott and that's he's a cactus jack i'm the president of cactus jack but I forget kind of who's on the label sometimes.
23:11I'm just busy. But I think that he's on the Choose in Texas, by the way, broke the record number one longest running Billboard song ever. Of all time. Of all time. But I think that he's from Texas, so I think that's why Houston, I think that's why he's on the remix.
23:29Jason Stewart:Yeah, I mean, is he known as like a straight up rapper rapper or is he more of like a Dolla$ign guy who does the hook and is like behind the scenes kind of thing. The only thing I really know about him is remember when that picture of him went viral where he looked insane and he was with the chick that looked insane. It was like a Coachella thing. He sort of looked like Jar Jar Binks and been eating good. I remember us talking about it on the podcast. You remember this? It was Coachella. Like a couple years ago, I think at this point. Yes, yes, yes. It was him and Kelly Uchis. Exactly. And he got roasted all over Rep TV.
24:06I mean, he deserved it. He deserved it. I mean, come on, dude. He looks fucking crazy, but it's interesting. I'm going to read this story because I feel like this is, we need more of this sort of service journalism in the media where it's like, man, just tell me what this shit is. Cause like not everybody, you know, like we, we have to keep up for a living and stuff still slips through the cracks. But imagine being like a 40 year old Echo Park father of two, who's like trying to keep up, trying to stay relevant. You're like, dude, one of my homies said, Don, I don't know who the fuck that is. Boom.
24:36I hit pitchfork.com. I can read all about who Don Toliver is and I never have to listen to his music. Because you know it's bad. You know it's bad, but you just want to know who he is. You just want to know what's up with him. What's the deal? Where did he come from? What's his relevance? Why is he impacting on such a large scale right now? And I think that's valuable information.
24:54Jason Stewart:He's like hip-hop's geese. Yes. Yeah, it's everywhere. It's huge. It's everywhere. Most of y 'all ain't going to want to listen to it, but it is beasting in the underground. It's doing quite well. Yeah, exactly. I don't know if I want to learn everything about him, but give me enough so when my son is asking me about it, I don't look 6 '7", you know what I mean? Yeah. Oh, yeah. I know exactly what you mean. I know exactly what you mean. Exactly what I mean. Okay, I'll give that a read. I mean, if I cared about Don Toliver. He reminds me of the type of person who's just always wearing clothes that don't fit his body.
25:33I saw.
Read the full transcript
25:33Jason Stewart:Like he's just always wearing some shit that is not flattering for his particular silhouette. I think the problem is his silhouette is tough to flatter. You know what I mean? No results found on the... No results. Yeah. Well, I saw a guy doing, when I was scrolling my reels as my flight was delayed, of course. I was, there was a guy who had ordered from Vivette, Kai Sinat's brand. And he's like unboxing. He's like, damn, this motherfucker spent some, you know, he's like unboxing. He's like, damn, the packaging is nice. And he pulls out this hoodie and it's just sort of like a sleeveless hoodie that looks, you know, it's in that sort of yay color palette, you know, the dusty sort of essentials color palette.
26:14And then he puts it on and he's like, you know, this fits like absolute shit, but I'm going to keep it because like whatever, you know. And then they sent him, after he paid$160 for the hoodie, they included a journal. because you know kai sanat was famous he was carrying around his his journal his sketchbook uh for months leading up to the promotion so you can get your own vivette kind of journal so you can do collages and all your sketchings and stuff no problem i could start my fashion career it is so awesome it's so this video is so good it was because he was just like kind of like i bought this so you didn't have to and then he puts it on he's like man this feels like shit this looks like shit but it he was complimenting the fabric choice so it's not all
26:58Jason Stewart:bad yeah so i i so at that point is is vivette or vive or whatever is it is it considered merch for kai sanat or is it a clothing company in i mean obviously he he thinks it's a clothing company i would say i would say technically and i i hate to give him uh too much credit of course because he's a stain on society not like my boy i show speed um an athlete but it is it is legitimate it's legitimate it's it's a it's not merch it's not merch it doesn't say his name it's a fully different thing the packaging obviously i was looking at it on on you know uh an iphone but the packaging did look quite substantial you know he's not he's not touching hermes or anything but it looked nice for 160 sleeveless hoodie that didn't fit yeah i feel like the fact that it is vive i don't know i mean like is skims you know kardashian merch is easy kanye merch you know it is and it isn't like if if if it didn't have that the attachment to that person then i think it's a clothing company i think since it's so it's unavoidably attached to them and i think at that point it becomes the same reason why if you if you go to a phoebe bridgers concert and you get a t-shirt it doesn't fit you and it looks like shit you you're still going to keep it because you know it's it's that but if i get a j crew barn jacket and it doesn't fit i'm gonna i'm gonna return it you know what i mean i think this guy was being funny about the returns i think i this is actually a good argument to me i feel like merch is is like if this is the argument that hanover is chris black merch which obviously makes me feel uncomfortable but i think that i've not not to put me in the category i was actually not going there at all but not to put me in the category of these luminaries um but i i think the kaisinats the chris blocks of the world yeah exactly i do not i for just to be very clear i'm a nobody i i would say that it has to have that person's name on it to be merch because i think that i think that is the technical i think you know what i mean i think it's because because obviously if you go i mean you you and i chris it's this is our definition to create you know what i mean that's true that is true that's our definition well so let's just define it now we put our we put our fucking we put our our foot down our we put our size 17 vans down on this one oh yeah i don't care if this is a cool prada pencil skirt if it's if it says you know olivia rodrigo on it it's merch i don't know skim's a good example it feels it feels larger than life it feels like it couldn't even it feels bigger than kim which is crazy even though she's lost weight it feels bigger than kim she has lost a lot but still casts a cast a silhouette doesn't you can see it coming from the front you know you can yeah you can still there ain't there's only so much you can do jason yeah that's right um and then speaking of j crew shout out my modeling debut i didn't think it was going to be that big of a deal but but now you know the the the messages and are pouring in this morning it kind of hit me i was like damn this is you look great thank you i loved it thank you i love that i love that picture and that that sweater is model's own correct sweater is model's own vintage j crew beautiful i know i really liked it i thought it looked cool and i i will say if they would have let me style it just imagine what it would look like well at least you're not chance the rapper it could be worse um i you know i but i do think that getting i i really i gotta say scotty pippen is that's a nice that's cool i gotta say because scotty pippen's a bad boy you know what i mean he's a bad he's a bad boy he was married you know he's he's done some shit you know and i i think that he deserves a second chance he's no lamb lamb let's be clear no no no no i'm not saying he's he's addicted to drugs and prostitutes i'm just saying he's no meta world peace he's no dennis rodman in terms of bad boyery no but i think that's what's cool about scotty pippen is he's he's low-key bad and that's what makes him cooler i think but yeah you look great and i think i think a lot of people look good i saw i mean except for low-key bad i just can we need somebody to do one of these don toliver exposés on ryan betty uh because i i've tried three times to listen to ryan betty because every every like famous female singer and gay guy loves ryan betty and every time i listen to it i'm just like where is it where are the songs i think every every girl i know loves it i know carolyn is a fan i mean ryan if you're listening to this you know shots he can sing his ass off no question yeah i'm just sort of like i just feel like it's one of those things that i hear people talk about in an insane way and then i listen to it and i think my expectations might be too high i think um maybe he seems like the kind of person who's been at this for a while not unlike um role model i think he writes i think he's i think he's written i think he's written a lot he's probably you know he probably has a few albums under his belt from when he was younger so he's like he's been talented his whole life and then you know doing like the solo oh wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait hold on hold on hold on brock hampton affiliate well i guess that that makes i was wondering if he was gay or not but now now we know no he's definitely gay um yeah everyone loves him but yeah i guess the brock i mean somebody came out of brock i mean that's nice it's it seems to be going quite well for him i well i depending on what the the you know what we're what we're judging it on i think he was a little he was like a little baby bieber back in the day i think he was like probably a natural born talent and then you know it's it's a hard thing for a solo male pop star to break through oh yeah he's hold on hold on i'm looking now this motherfucker's done some crazy shit like like he he wrote with blanco and fucking tyler the creator and you know the whole thing this okay well we got a we got a mumford we got a mumford credit can't beat that fred again your boy okay miley cyrus miley cyrus it did the list so i think is i think what happened was he he got old enough and he figured out what to what to write about how to dress you know get a little you know little hair on the chest and now let's not go that far let's not go that far but i bet the chest is still bare in a hot way not that's not a negative i mean it's not music that i have ever listened to and probably won't no shade but i think it's it's more so like some people just have like a talent that is just head and shoulders above everyone else and we're at such a just an absence of that kind of thing going on like you know we hear new music all the time and it's like oh well i mean the singer can't sing but like you know it has like a cool spirit to it or like the energy is frantic or whatever it is so when you hear somebody like when you know like or like when a band who's just really locked in plays together and you're like oh it's just like you know the frequency in the room changes and everyone kind of pays attention look you got you got i'm sure bd got that you got four cuts on cowboy carter that i can't say shit that's kind of that's kind of where i'm at with it i i yeah i didn't i get it no but i the casting was so i mean it's a lot of people to cast that's it was fucking crazy um but i i that's an undertaking yeah my brother was my brother texted me damn cb left now you're a partner with j crew and then you know and then he said anthony jeselnik starting a book club podcast on the ringer i did see that give me all the info i did see that first of all i will say i want to say this on the record i i've tried many times to shoot you for j crew when i was being paid so i want to make that clear um and maybe it was maybe it was too close to you know what i mean it was too close which it was and now is your time and i'm i'm happy for everybody in that situation it's a it's a w for the corporation and them jeans inc yeah i think the team i didn't get like the exact from everyone but it does seem like the team is is kind of relieved that you're gone and they can kind of work with me a little more openly and freely.
34:59They could finally, finally.
35:01Jason Stewart:I mean, like they knew they could do it before, but they just, you know, it would have been like a, like the energy would have been a little funky and, you know, it could have just, it just would have been weird. Jason will be there the whole time. It's just better this way. You know, once we figure out the Chris problem. Yeah. It's just better this way. We finally squashed the Chris Roach so them jeans can get in here. I mean, a bridge is being built and I feel it on my shoulder, so I like it. Hey, bro, as long as one of us is eating, that's all I care about between you and I the NTS subscription gonna get paid every month believe that oh that's on God that's on God I saw that Jezelnik the announcement he was wearing a book soup shirt which is one of the greatest bookstores in the world which I like to support but Jezelnik is all joking aside he's incredibly well read and well spoken about it and I think it's I would say that he's probably the Dua Lipa of the comedy seller.
35:56I would say he might be in a better position to talk about books than some of these other celebrities and brands that are doing so. So I feel like it's the right thing. I agree.
36:04Jason Stewart:And also he's a professional talker. It's cool because I feel like, I don't know this, I like his comedy, but I don't follow him closely, but has he ever had a pod? If this is, as a professional comedian, if your first podcast is with The Ringer and it's about books, you kind of are shitting on your company, you're kind of shitting on them a little bit. That's true. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think he must, he must have had another podcast at some point before, but I mean, I guess if it was that big, then he wouldn't have been doing this, right? We would know about it for sure. You would definitely know about it as, as a person who's.
36:34Jason Stewart:Yeah. I'm into dark comedy. I would have known about this. You got eyes on the space. I was, you know, I was speaking of comedy. I was checking out the new Joe Coy, uh, yesterday. Dear God, why? Cause I, I hate myself. You know that. And he's, he's just, he's at a sold out big venue in Stockton, California, which I think says, uh, why don't you, you know, for the show, I'm going to be a show. those that don't know jason give us a couple sentences about what stockton california is because i i sort of know from context clues but it'd be great to hear from an expert my stockton knowledge not is not huge but there's like different areas near the bay area of san francisco where different asian people live san jose modesto stockton and it's just like a generic regular place i guess i mean it's definitely like out out of those you know between san jose and stockton And I think Stockton is probably worse because it's further away from the ocean.
37:28Jason Stewart:Like San Jose, you're in Palo Alto right now. It's like 10 minutes away. It's very close. And then Stockton, it's a little more on the way to Reno. Okay, yeah, nowhere. On the way to Reno, on the way to Sacramento. Which Brandon Flowers song is that? On the Way to Reno is one of my favorites. Thanks for bringing that up. On the Way to Reno, man. So Joe Coy is doing stand-up. but he does tell a pretty funny story about getting fake teeth when he didn't really couldn't really afford it and it's it's fucking funny it's pretty funny but but what i noticed most is he's and i know that he leans you know a hip-hop uh in his in his taste but he's wearing sort of like a like biggie smalls like a matching set of like a dickie suit almost but it has a joe coy it seems to have a joe coy like logo on like like chapelle style really he's got his i guess martin lawrence did that too And he's got, of course, he has Jordans on.
38:22He gets a pass. He's not white.
38:24Jason Stewart:Are they black and white? Yeah, I'm looking at it now. It's like a cross between a Dickies situation and Sean John velour matching set. But on the shirt and on the pants, there's a screen print, one color. it looks like a like a cartoon anime drawing like a david cho with an e at the end style artwork of a guy sneezing yeah i don't it just it looked i don't have confirmation this is available on joe coy.com right now for you know 150 but it felt like he was wearing something fully custom and it's just really funny when guys with no taste put that much effort in like dude if you're comedians almost always look bad on their specials to the point where i'm kind of shocked um except for like malaney and marybeth barone i'm always like what do you do like why aren't you just put on a suit dude or whatever put on jeans and a t-shirt but it's always there's always something wrong it's always like oh you got the cole hans sneakers on great good choice you know and i don't understand and i have to say this isn't cool but it looks he looked better and more comfortable in this custom look than than he would have if he hit nordstrom rack like the rest to these fucking guys yeah i almost i i don't want stand-up comedians to be dressing well whenever i see it happen it's off-putting and it seems wrong i agree i agree and well is not what i'm saying i think unoffensive is what i'm i'm saying like oh plain but the right plane you know like like there's a way there's a way to wear like a black t-shirt and jeans and sneakers and every comedian does it wrong except for the the the few yeah like if like louis ck like he always wears a t-shirt that's too small for his fat ass that's what i'm saying like seems wrong and you're like but like you're so close ricky gervais kind of a little bit of the same thing but he he wears the the the t-shirt that's too small for him a little bit better in my opinion i don't know why and these guys are all these guys are all rich enough like even if you don't have a stylist you got a homie who's cool you know what i mean i'm not saying you need the a press silk you know i i just i'm saying like there's a way to do this right at uniqlo yeah you know what i mean and there's a and there's a way to do it right at mohawk or union good enough for push yeah pick one and and and do it i was just i was but joe coy i was like man at least this shit fits you like it's you know what i mean at least at least it fits right i mean you're not funny but that's okay that's how dreary it is nowadays where we're we're like joe coy not that bad joe But yeah, I punished myself a little Joe Coy for the last couple nights.
40:58And you know, I like to, when anything is that popular, I feel like it's my duty to check it out and try to understand what it is.
41:08Jason Stewart:And if you make it to the end, good for you. Wildly popular. Wildly popular. Yeah, I know. He is very, very huge. Let me see here. We were talking about millennial music supervisors On the last episode And I watched this HBO show Called Youth Have you heard of this? This is on, where do I see this? It's on HBO The British actress Sharon Horgan You would recognize her She's in a bunch of stuff But it's the show that Shillian Murphy's Oh son is in Yes I did know I know. Well, there's two sons trending right now. Mark Ruffalo's son had a big, I believe it was Vulture. Vulture or maybe The Cut wrote about him.

45:15Jason Stewart:It's pretty good. I mean, it's about it's about like a woman whose kid just goes off to call. She's a divorced literary agent and her kid just went to college and she's throwing herself back into the dating world but it's definitely like a show written by somebody who is like that but we were watching it and in there's like radiohead everything in its right place there's a geese there's lcd sound system amel and the sniffers you know like fiona apple viagra boys not viagra boys we got viagra boys on hbo hell yeah love that love that so like we're we're hearing and it was very similar when um netflix was doing it with ozark i remember you would see these big sweeping like helicopter shots and then you know a radiohead needle drop that cost them you know fucking 800 grand or some shit and you're like is i i feel like the music supervisor they're like your budget is either zero or infinity based on whether or not they think it's going to get an award or not if they think that it has a chance of snagging some emmys then yeah let's give you the fucking all the vivaldi and all the fucking you know velvet underground you can you can suck down brother i mean why it does i i do think it makes a difference i think it's i i do think it makes a difference but nowadays it's almost distracting when the needle drop is too good yeah i mean it does feel i mean i think it's like it does feel sort of competitive like who can do the coolest, you know, but also biggest.
46:49Jason Stewart:And Scorsese would, you know, like all just, you know, Rolling Stones fucking on the opening scene type shit. Yeah, we had to start me up in the first 30 seconds of this thing. It's like, how much could we possibly pay? That show, I have heard good things about that show. I have heard good things about that show now that you... It's fine. Yeah, it's worth a watch. It's good to get started. No, we didn't put that in there. I did want to clear it up today that speaking of Mary Beth, it is there is a movie coming out with joe owen um did her team reach out to you still we met and and it's produced by a friend of the show lena dunham executive produced by lena dunham and guess what it's about jason just imagine a young woman at a crossroads who meets a charming british stranger and spends one unforgettable night wandering new york and unfortunately sign me up didn't isn't there isn't that a callum turner movie that came out came and went last month that movie well that movies about the one night people are allowed to have sex okay this is about a one night but a different one night well there's no rules on it i think that the world is their oyster they could they can wander from the bronx to lower manhattan all the way back to cobble hill and with with cameras and it's no problem which seems like a interesting premise for a fun movie and then they figured out how to make it really boring no no shade to call them uh friend of the show i don't think um that movie should have been like a fuck fest right i think that movie bombed on a scale that that maybe should have been starring megan fox and fucking matt reif put matt reif in everything you know how i feel about reif i i said dude you know i saw they did vogue world in milan tonight and uh unfortunately unfortunately mgk did walk the red carpet and dakota's in town so it's you know dakota attended so it's not looking good i saw a bunch of uh robots come out yeah they had that with vogue world bro they had the robots are those the elon robots probably yeah is he the only one that's got robots so far um no this is a genuine question definitely not definitely not but i think he's the the richest man in the world so he's getting the most robot shine but i think there are hundreds of different companies making robots but that's about as far as my knowledge goes i think that i think that the i think the robots that i saw on the Vogue World runway and I'm not an expert, I believe those are the same robots that Kim Kardashian famously posed with.
49:09Jason Stewart:Those are the same robot that she let finger her on that. I remember it. That robot said, I need some more. Let me go to Milan. I heard there's some more hoes out here. There's some baddies in Milan right now looking to get chose. They should have brought that robot over there, man. He said, my life is a Zuby. He started acting different now. He said, Anna DeArma seemed to have been over-served tomorrow. Let me see how she's feeling over here. That, yeah, I don't know if any of these other guys have robots, but these look like Elon's robots, which I'm sure their inclusion paid for the whole thing.
49:48Of course. It's going to be my educated guess. But, yeah, I didn't.
49:52Jason Stewart:Yeah, I saw there was, like, the murderer's row of all the designers from all the big houses. And then the guy on the right, I forgot. with the long hair. He's wearing the green baseball cap. Where? In the picture? Yeah, there was a picture with all of the big people lined up. Oh, I didn't see it. Alessandro. So there was Demna, Pierre Palo, Donatella, Alessandro, Raf Simons. Congratulations to Donatella on her new brand with Revolve. Revolve. Are they making pasta? I like that over Demna's shoulder it looks like adam friedland and uh that's just a uruguayan gay guy but still second row not bad but it would be cool if that was adam this is yeah i i don't know well anyway i was watching a video also alessandro i like those kicks with those jeans it's a nice look but every like the robots came out and they're like we're fashion dancing and then everyone's like clapping and alessandro is is stone-faced in defiance not showing love to the robot takeover so he's like the only good one in the bunch he's like not in my country i mean dude what do you do what do you do if a robot walks out you know like what do you do because it's like i've seen the video of the guys the guys i think it was in china where the robot tries to fight the guy in like the phone store and then you see the robot fingering kim kardashian then you see the then you see the robot you know wearing fucking yeah there's like a robot like tries to twerk on nikki minaj somewhere probably and then smoke comes out of its ears.
51:27It's crazy that these robots aren't wearing Connor Ives or Colleen Allen. These robots are nude if you think about it. They are nude. At a fashion show, that seems a little crazy to have a nude robot when the clothes are all there. You could easily tailor something to fit the robot.
51:43Jason Stewart:I think you're not the first person to think that. You were probably wondering the same thing, but I'm sure they were like, let's put some clothes on the robot and then the result was much worse than a nude robot. And I'm looking at this robot now and it's not a Tesla robot. It's not? It's a different brand, yeah. Oh my God. Well, do you think it's because they're afraid that the robot, if it was, if the clothes were too tailored, you might be able to see the robot chub? If it was... No, I think it would just be like when you see a robot wearing, you know, spring, summer 26, you know, wearing a fucking missoni skirt it's probably like so upsetting that they had to just immediately rip the garments but you think they tried you think that you think they tried somebody somewhere was like let's just do a little draping and see you know what i mean yeah yeah they quickly were like oh this must never the world may may never see this we have a line and it's dressing the robots we'll let them strut and we'll let them finger but we're not going to let them fucking get dressed i think that's a that's a decent line but but if the if the robots are dancing in milan what's going to happen at the vogue world san francisco oh i think it's just going to be all robots that's that i think it's going to be all the humans are going to be replaced the audience as well as the the models and celebrities like what how hard would it be to make a robot look like mgk just paint it or his arms black look they can never make a robot hunter schaefer that's actually true no We don't talk about Bay like that.
53:18You're right, actually. It would be terrible. You're right. The San Francisco part is just going to be drones and robots, I guess. I saw Lucas Sabat was posting. He was in the gym with Lenny Kravitz. Yeah, I saw that. You couldn't tell who was who. Father, son type shit. And then today he posted in the same gym.
53:40Jason Stewart:Biological didn't bother. Today he posted a story. Okay. And it says day two, leg mode. And he's standing in the gym. And he's listening to Future Weight Up. And he's pulling up his shorts to show off his leg. And he really shouldn't do that. Oh. You're saying the definition isn't there enough yet to start bragging about it? His quad does not know what a teardrop is. And it's also he's looking white as hell down there. Oh, okay. I just pulled it up. I mean, no shade to the queen. but is he also what's that shoe is that a zero drop shoe i think it's i i feel like it's not i feel like it's like a celine shoe yeah i'm sure i'm sure he doesn't oh wait these are what it's given right now i think those might be some sort of nike it looks like there's a check i can't tell this is a crazy picture that was my point it's a crazy it's a it's a crazy image yeah i think that shoe has a reverse swish on it maybe i'll say i'll say this you know the first i would say six months of a gym journey is not shareable that's the problem with it you so you sort of got a beast unless you're doing unless you're like i'm gonna lose a hundred pounds in in six months you know follow along type of thing this is more like i i i mean this guy smokes so many cigarettes i wonder how that's affecting him right now but i just found this image to be particularly interesting i like i like lucas sabat i've only talked to him a few times he's a funny guy and he's a good tweeter very good very good and he has he definitely has a many gifts in the world and i feel like you and him have a lot of similarities i just you know the the mountain valley large bottle of it all i don't know both got nice creamy thighs but yeah i mean proud of you for you know letting it all hang out from the waist down does it look like megan trainer i don't know
55:40it is it is though to be work if you're if your personal trainer is lenny kravitz that is i understand the first post that is a flex you know that is a flex sitting sitting next to lenny on the fucking chest press machine is something that we all wish we could do yeah day three let's get
55:57Jason Stewart:luca and the yeezy little pussycat shorts so we can so show his cookie at the gym with lenny not cookie i've heard cookie in a while that's good jason you brought that one back back cookie came back did it yeah okay i'll be on i'm on notice consider me on notice there was there's this comedian joey diaz who he's been on rogan a bunch of times he's like an old like fat italian guy who's like about to die any day and he's like but he would always refer to a vagina as cookie you know talking about a stripper's cookie or something like that and i always got a kick out of it but i've noticed lately now that it has sort of become i think cookie a little invoked he's respectful and fun i think it's a yeah of all of all the words you could use i heard i think maybe friend of the show andrews steel mentioned it um last week or the week before when we were in new york he made a cookie reference i don't remember what it was i think that's i think that's a fun because it's like it's it's fun it's pretty harmless good for the kids sometimes you have to describe the down there spot you know what i mean and cookie also feels almost unisex oh okay you're on to something now you're so progressive bro i always forget that you're on the front lines you're on the front i was talking about this yesterday with carolyn on the dog walk we're like what how cool would it be if your pronouns were he her like it was it's like the present tense is male and then like the immediately post tense is female and how like if you got really good at talking like um like have you been to chris's house like he's so uh yeah i went to her house yesterday you know what i mean like like flipping guys already do that gay guys already do that that's true that's true they all call each other her it's something i like he posted this leg mode photo yeah her legs were like crazy yeah i see oh i see what you're doing okay yeah that's that's gonna that's gonna take some time to kind of train the brain but i think i could get there yeah it's kind of like paddle shifting you'll get it after a while it comes quick oh jason oh jason you know i can't paddle shift bro every time i paddle shift i'm gonna wreck the car i can't do that really oh yeah i don't i don't know how to do that's ben edgar shit i don't know how to do that well that's okay paddle shifting doesn't necessarily you know get them wet as they say i think my neighbor used to say the vet gets him wet he had a corvette uh i think if you have a real you know real shifter down low then you know it's going to be a turn on but the paddle shifting i don't think is that much of a turn on just in terms of using manual transmissions to get people to have sex with yeah that's that's the lowest form of manual transmission sex attraction he's or hers uh i just did you get your tickets for digger or you you waiting okay i just didn't know i mean there's movies that i want to see that I'm not going to see.
58:46Jason Stewart:Let alone Digger. I've been walking down Sunset Boulevard for the last three days looking at the Digger billboard. So it's kind of top of mind to me right now. Yeah, I've seen some. Obviously, there was the Tom Cruise interview on GQ that everyone was talking about. Tom Cruise, crazy ass guys, is being crazy. Sounds normal to me. It's all good. I've noticed that people have really sort of turned on him with the Digger and people seem to want it to fail for whatever reason i don't know why because they really wanted top gun to succeed i can't i can't remember who i was talking to somebody who would know maybe it was ryland i think ryland i believe that digger is actually a musical like like it's it's why not but they don't they don't tell you that because they want people to go see it but then obviously really i mean it's i don't think it's like a full-on like you know like right right it's not wicked for dudes no but i think that it's it's technically i think it's technically a musical and that helps them for the awards oh category wise so like because tom cruise famously never gets a fucking award for anything so maybe they're like we're gonna have to there's there's a 30 rock episode about this i think the the egot episode where they're like all right you gotta you know we gotta get a fucking grammy and they're like you can't sing what's it gonna be audiobook you know Just trying to figure out, skirt ways around to get...
1:00:09Jason Stewart:I mean, at that point, Tom, is it even an award? Did you even win it if you're kind of cheating the system, if you bought it? All awards are bought in some way. So it's sort of... Not the Gawnees, of course. No, no, no. I was thinking about Tom. Obviously, the Scientology thing is his biggest thorn in his side. That's going to be the reason why everyone is irked by him. and I realized a good test of someone's character that Tom Cruise seems to fail. I was watching a video. Maybe it was Lil Boozy Badass or somebody. Maybe it was Floyd Mayweather. It was either Floyd Mayweather or Boozy Badass or somebody like that.
1:00:49Jason Stewart:They're walking to the airport. Two of the greats. Some of my favorite guys. They've done well for themselves. Respectful people in the world, but maybe not the most perfect in the eyes of the law, etc. But he was walking down the airport and a little kid came up to him and he was like trying to hang out and like climb on him and he just it was like somebody else's kid and he picks the kid up by the uh armpit scoops him up and starts oh i saw that i saw that yeah and everyone is like you did that in a way where it's okay and i'm gonna let you rock and you seem to be in control of the situation and you had the audacity to lift up a stranger's child in public but everything seemed to go super well so maybe i'll let you cook tom cruise does would you let tom cruise pick up your baby in public oh at the very least he's gonna drop it drop drops the worst the drop is the option that i would choose i i think because i don't think i think that because i saw i i listened to matt belany trying to kind of put the spurs to zach baron about not asking tom cruise about scientology and zach baron was like i actually don't really care about that and i was kind of like i agree bro like what he's not going to say anything so why would you ask him the question that's my whole thing yeah he's never going to give you anything about it and he's he's been famous and media trained and brainwashed for so long so why would you derail your entire interview by asking about something you know he's not going to talk about yeah like i i mean we all i agree i think i think we all do care about it but we all know that he's never ever going to talk about it so you know i would rather hear him talk about something anything versus zero so i was just sort of like what it is yeah man i don't think that his people have to tell you that scientology is off limits because you've seen him try to answer that question before and it's just like well i i don't i don't give a fuck about movies or tom cruise's process but i know that's all he's going to talk about he ain't going to talk about the lifts in his fucking shoes and he's not going to talk about scientology so we got to talk about the art of acting that's the only choice we got you know is there a certain point where we're going to be like, all right, we're going to just leave Tom Cruise alone.
1:02:54Jason Stewart:We're just never going to talk to him because he's never going to give us anything. Yeah, I don't. I would. Do you think we will reach that point? I feel like the GQ, since it's the first thing he's done in whatever, 10 years. You got to do it. Yeah, but if it's just confirmed, is there going to be a point where they're like, we got Tom, he's willing to give you 10 minutes for this thingy. Are people going to be like, I'm good. I don't really fucking care anymore. I think he's too famous for that. I think there's people that, and I think that for GQ it made sense because it's like, no, he hasn't talked to anybody in forever.
1:03:28This is what Zach does. This will work for us. It did what it needed to do for GQ.
1:03:33Jason Stewart:And Zach, him being top of the top, best of the best for doing that kind of work, he's on the starting lineup of people who are going to do that. So something like that drops on your lap. You got to do it. I just, when Matt was asking those questions. For the culture. I was like, I was just like, dude, what are you going to, what's the point? I mean, Matt Bellany is also a shit starter and I get it. Like, that's who he is. But I was just like, dude, that's just a waste of everybody's fucking time. It's not even funny, you know. But that's how I feel. But I don't care. I mean, Tom Cruise could walk by me right now.
1:04:08He does nothing for me. But I guess he's one of the last few movie stars of a generation. And let's see how Digger does. Then we can really judge. Sure. He's no Glenn Powell, right?
1:04:18Jason Stewart:Suck the air out of the room. No, Glenn Powell. That's a megastar. He's no Tinochet. No. He's no Tuhalas. No, he's no Tuhalas. All right, Hal on Gone. Thank you guys for listening. We're back this week with more podcasts, and we will talk to you soon. Thank you. Thank you.
