In short

Two hosts (Chris Black and Jason) trade stories while one is on a “soup-forward” sober-living retreat in Silt, Germany, then they pivot to late-night TV shakeups, streaming/TV culture, and current music/pop-culture takes. They also debate “run club” culture and brand-driven fitness communities, and end with wedding-performance anecdotes and music covers.

No guests appear in the transcript; it’s just Chris Black and Jason.

Guest backgrounds

Not applicable (no guests).

Key claims

  • They can’t claim a specific energy drink makes you smarter, but they argue Storm’s “zero sugar” + “200mg caffeine” + “immunity support” makes you feel smarter/focused.
  • Late-night shows are too expensive and should be restructured or replaced since audiences consume clips/podcasts instead of watching live.
  • Jimmy Kimmel’s removal is framed as a business/network move tied to cost, ratings, and political backlash.
  • Run clubs are increasingly brand-sponsored and socially/romantically motivated rather than purely for fitness.

Notable examples

  • “Spotted Pig” is suggested as an inspiration for a Netflix show’s upstairs/private-party setup.
  • Ben Baller is mentioned as appearing in that show’s “upstairs” vibe.
  • Young Lean covering The Stooges is praised as unexpectedly great; Jonah Hill’s wedding speech is cited as another standout.

0:00Jason Stewart:Legally, we can't say drinking Storm makes you smarter and more focused. But with zero sugar, 200 milligrams of caffeine, and immunity support, you're smarter and more focused for drinking Storm. Storm. Good energy in, good energy out. Energy for life.

0:32dumbass how long gone got him uh it's chris black it's my last day in silt germany um my last soup for dinner maybe for the rest of my life um them jeans how are you feeling good back in cali

0:48Jason Stewart:hot summer days afoot i've also been eating soup you're doing it you're doing it by choice though um i guess it's an elective soup i guess i am too technically i guess i am well i i you i have a kitchen full of options and you don't poor guy no i don't i mean i never want a kitchen full of options as long as i live but i i you know actually i was i was thinking about that where people are like you know what you know with weight loss and everything like i just can't keep anything in the house as long as that happens i'm i'm okay and to me that feels a little a little soft i feel like you're you're quitting when it's a little too early do you do you see my logic here where like you you should be able to push through yeah yeah of course you've given up and at the uh in the eighth inning weirdly if there was a bottle of oxycontin in my house i wouldn't even think about it but if there was a box of oreos i'm fucking scratching my arms really oh totally yeah totally because in my mind there's one thing i just cannot have and that's drugs and alcohol that's like a very clear line but like a couple cookies i know i'm gonna wake up the next day and feel fine i know my life's not gonna be ruined you know i know i'm not gonna do anything i shouldn't do um i'll just feel personal guilt because i hate myself and that's you know that's something i think we all deal with okay well the same way some people are like i have to you know i have to remove all social media from my phone i i have to block the ip address of Pornhub.

2:25Jason Stewart:If I look at the Reddit or if I look at my comment section of my video on YouTube, I will go into a full mental breakdown. I feel like that, you're walking the thin line. It's just one little thing to go wrong and then we're triggered again. So I think we need to start working on, maybe I need to start reading the comments a little bit more just to condition myself hunter style in that in that instance i don't care like i don't really care what people have to say but with my own personal well-being it's a it's a mental challenge it's me versus me okay um and everybody loses i versus i i versus i and everybody loses in that in that okay well this is what i'm envisioning now that you have been uh lanza hofft now you've been hanging out in the Aryan nation of Silt.

3:19Jason Stewart:It's an island and a lifestyle and a mentality. You know when you see those videos where somebody has trained their dog, they'll put a dog treat, they'll put a cocktail weenie or a biscuit on the snout and the dog sits there and stares at it, doesn't bite it, very well trained, very impressive. And then you give the command, oftentimes in German coincidentally, and then the dog is then allowed to chomp down and eat that little pizza combos. That's going to be me at the Dusseldorf airport tomorrow with a Cortado. You're painting a picture that is very accurate to me right now. Very, very accurate to me right now.

3:59Jason Stewart:So you've been laid up in your five-star, minimalist, blonde, wood, chic retreat. Obviously, you haven't been looking at screens or anything like that, so you're just staring at the ceiling no no no no screens are allowed don't worry screens screens are allowed but of course you chose to electively not look at that i just personally i actually when i checked in i said you know what for me i checked in i said here's my phone here's my computer if you guys could just charge these for the next week i'll pick them up when i head out they said mr black of course we'd love to help you that would actually be a great you walk in here's my phone here's my computer here's my ipad i want you to take them into your back room and charge them up for me I used them all on the car ride over here as a long journey from there.

4:49Jason Stewart:And then just bring them up to my room as soon as they're all full. That would be awesome. I forgot my adapter. Chargers are ugly in the room. So if you could just charge it down here. You understand that I wouldn't want them to be in my eyesight. It's an aesthetic thing. They're just kind of ugly. Well, okay. So let's say, for example, you were going screenless staring at the screen the way somebody might be doing over in Alligator Alcatraz or San Quentin. any jail place. There's many jails. But you know all the people in jail got phones now, but I see what you're saying. Yeah, but I mean, I guess, but are the people in jail using their precious phones to look at TikToks of the new Szechuan poutine restaurant?

5:34No, they're looking at TikToks of thoughts. They're looking at anything with titties, but yes, I mean, I see what you're saying.

5:40Jason Stewart:I'm looking at Zara Larson doing the splits, and I'm jacking off to it. I'm not in solitary confinement. I'm not in the whole, you know, with my reels pulled up like, oh my God, they're doing Amaru in Williamsburg. That's so crazy. It looks, I think it's probably going to be just as good. Okay, so you mentioned Cortado at the Dusseldorf Airport, which I guess accidental Bronson lyric there. is there something that you've been dying to wrap your white little lips around i mean any anything really i don't even i haven't even it's so okay maybe maybe maybe that's too wide of a net maybe let's let's go abstract is there a mouth and i'm not trying to make a gay joke or anything that is like a mouth sensation actually for example a crunch or a suck or any you know i feel like you're not being you haven't been able to crunch the way you want to crunch i've only been i've only been sucking as usual i've only been but you've been slurping though be honest i've been slurping i haven't been sucking i've been slurping dinner every night is a different soup but no tonight uh my last night i'm on level 3.1 now which is sort of the final boss 3.1 is the final boss well as the food portion goes you start it you know what i mean okay and it's just It's like a way they organize the menu.

7:02So tonight I was able to have a herbal soup with parsley. It tastes delicious. It's just I don't like soup. And then some broccoli, some of the best broccoli I've ever had. But then for the first time.

7:16Jason Stewart:An herbal soup with parsley. Seven days. The first time in seven days, they brought out some hard cow cheese. And boy, do I tell you, that shit tasted like, it tasted so good. because it was a flavor I hadn't had. I think if you don't restrict yourself, you never know how good that stuff can be. Sure. Honestly, it was unbelievable. It was so good. Yeah. So good. Yeah, okay. I mean, sit in the sauna for an hour. You never thought a cold shower would feel so good. No, exactly. Exactly. It's the restriction. So I wasn't expecting that. Same. I had my parsley soup as my send-off meal. And then some broccoli.

7:59Today was also big because lunch is the biggest meal here. That's the one where you get the most food.

8:05Jason Stewart:It's so important to get the digestion in earlier. I wish I could eat that way. Same. Unfortunately, both of us have built our lives around dinner. Around going out to dinner. That's literally what I've been thinking the whole time. No Stevie. That's literally what I've been thinking about the whole time. I'm like, I realize now that my entire life is about going to dinner. No matter what city I'm in, no matter who I'm with, no matter what I'm doing, that is my North Star at the end of every day. and it's crazy to take it out when you are a sober living real eater who also burns a lot of cows dinner is that's it, that's your north star that's what keeps you going but today for lunch like I said this is the final day full day I was given a white fish steamed white fish and it was again that also tasted like gold it was just unbelievable Just a nice David Cod steamed up.

9:02Yeah, exactly. Steamed right up. But I feel pretty good, but the problem is that every day around now is when I start feeling the best.

9:15Jason Stewart:What time of the day is it there right now? I'd probably say I start feeling good about 5. It's 6 p.m. right now. Okay. So I have three hours to watch The Black Rabbit and then go to bed when I'm feeling my best. I can do some work. I mean, I do a little work. I'm gonna do some writing. But when the sun goes down, that's like mentally when I shut down. It's a bad habit, but I'm not a night person. No Mark Ronson. Okay, you're not a night person. So you're saying just for whatever reason, this time of day, 6 p.m., is when your mental and physical feels the best. Yeah, yeah. I think it's because maybe I'm working out, I'm going to the sauna, I'm having these fucking treatments, and then I'm sort of, I don't know.

10:02I think maybe it's a little bit of like a time difference thing too. Sure. Like my mind still, I don't know. But it's been a very, I will say, difficult experiment for me. And I'm very proud of myself for getting through it with no cheating.

10:15Jason Stewart:No one said the Hoff was going to be easy, right? It's supposed to be difficult. I didn't think about it though, but I didn't think about it. It's so weird. I didn't even think about it I thought about it being really nice which it has been you know what I think I think what the issue was I don't think you calculated it to be so soup forward as somebody who is such a yeah that's part of it you often run away from soups and I have as well in my life and I'm really coming around to soups as long as you know I think it was Chelsea Peretti who famously hates soups and she's like what's wrong with soups like especially we've talked about it a lot is like it's such a female food you know yeah just like i just need soup because you know you have the the subconscious thoughts that the food has already been chewed and digested so you're able to process it easier and blah blah blah blah but i remember she would always say like every bite of soup is the same texture temperature flavor every it's just like a homogenous thing obviously not all soups are created equally but you know like a norm like your pureed parsley soup that you had every every spoonful is pretty much the same right yeah that's that's a that's actually i've never thought of it but yes that's absolutely right yeah so leave those soups chunky you guys i had a chunky soup a couple days ago it's delish but then also you know you know what else is the exact same texture temperature flavor and consistency you know a scoop of ice cream oh well you don't have any problems sucking that down do you no i don't i'll slurp on that shit all day um all right well yeah anyway i feel good i'm going to berlin for a day or two i'm gonna go to the to a restaurant i like there with my with with jeremy and other friends fan and then i'm heading home so i you know we're friend of the show blonde shell is actually playing while i'm there so i might go check out the show in berlin which is a funny what's what's your restaurant in berlin it's called grill royale grill royale okay sounds cute i guess yeah grill grill royal yeah not royale it's royal yeah grill royal it's it's just like a it's like a funny kind of rich person i'm yeah i see it i'm on the website it's uh the kitchen is visible from the dining room i think there's some magnolia plants in there but the interesting part is right above the kitchen there's like a window that you can see into it Like the FX is da bear.

12:45Jason Stewart:Above it is a. Da bear. Bergheim scarf. Oh yeah. Like you would see, you know, for your favorite football club. I think this is a place. Yeah, there's. A toon towel. Oh no. And unfortunately, like every good place in Europe, there is a neon sign that says capitalism kills love. Of course. Which you can't. We're going to knock a couple points off for that. Yeah, no, that's unforgivable, especially in today's climate. oh god okay well that's great i'm excited for you bro yeah i did i watched the black rabbit i really liked it and i just i'm realizing something for both of us that we're sort of getting to the age now where like things are specifically coded for us like this show all the music is absolutely it's interpol it's the strokes it's the walkman it's and if it's new it's like fontaine's dc but there was a there's a scene in the show the mind of jason bateman where they're robbing jude law's character's apartment and he's they rip they rip a photo off the wall which i recognize and he was like not the fucking mcginley it was on loan and i just fucking i couldn't believe it i couldn't believe we'd come that far where that sort of stuff is getting referenced in like a netflix show but it's it's i mean i want to know what you think about it because it looks like it cost a fortune i watched the first episode of it i think maybe yesterday actually um i i i will end up finishing it but i'm not i'm not throbbing for it just quite yet i think maybe because it is a little narcissism of small differences or it is a little prescribed and too close for us i mean i think somebody needed to tell the spotted pig story you know I think that was a big thing.

14:36Yeah. That was a big thing in New York. And I think if you, but I think it's one of those, I think it's interesting because I don't think that, not obviously most people don't know that story, especially most people that watch Netflix. So it doesn't matter.

14:48Jason Stewart:So is it confirmed that this is about, you know, more or less, Spotted Pig story? Not confirmed, but like it's, what goes on upstairs is very much like a, to me, a reference to Spotted Pig because that's, it was upstairs and it would kind of, you know. You would go upstairs and like, hey, I want to go up there. And then the hotter than should be maitre d' is like, oh, it's actually a private party up there. And you look up there and then Ben Baller's up there. And you're like, oh, fuck, I'm never getting in here. Support for today's episode of How Long Gone comes from Square. 17:17Jason Stewart:Poor guy. Was at the Spotted Pig. that's the first that's where batali that's it was a it very much mimics that to me and i i mean i'd be surprised if if it wasn't inspired someone yeah but but jude law he's more of the lovable you know can do no wrong gets a thousand excuses for his behavior but he's not he's not playing grab ass and and chasing waiters around no no he's he's he's fucking a hostess that's 23 three but like that's technically fine you know what i mean he's not drug but it's giving consensuala it is giving consensuala he's not like drugging a waitress you know it's pretty it's it's above board stuff i mean you would hear the stories of it and i like i was i was literally imagining like mario batali you know like when you would see you're in germany like some type of old children's carousel thing where there's like a fat kid chasing a pig around in a circle and he's like, ooh, I want sweet.

18:19Jason Stewart:It's kind of like a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory kind of thing of a little Batali all greased up with his red ponytail. And the servers are just out of reach as he's constantly chasing them from corridor to corridor. This is a little cleaned up. Yeah, this is definitely. Because you can't have a fat, nasty guy. I mean, no shade. He's lost weight, I'm sure. He has lost weight. You think Batali's on his MPEG? Yeah, for sure. coming he's gonna come through so snatched what if he came back buff just like huge that'd be really funny that'd be really funny he's gonna i mean it's only a matter of time i'm sure he's actually i bet he's doing some shit in the shadows i'm sure he's got money and stuff and you know the usual i had some work done i've really gotten into krav maga i'm kind of like like low-key like a crazy swimmer now i know that's weird dude that that's what that's that's the best possible outcome for him really sure you know because he's got enough he's got enough money he never needs to work again yeah but if he if he comes back looking hot like he finally cuts his hair like oof like she's all that style like hottie reveal at that point do you think the duck culture will finally accept him back into their good graces of course on a probationary phase well i mean the They're reopening Bobo without him.

19:38So I feel like maybe that, to me, that was his chance. If he came back, he was hot, and he took Bobo back, I feel like that, I don't think he can start from scratch.

19:50Jason Stewart:Maybe it's a slow rollout. I don't think he can start from scratch. Yeah, it could be. Good point. Good point. He could do a slow roll. It's going to be a Batali-style bait and switch. He'll be like, hey, come into my office. We need to have a meeting. Uh-uh, whoops-a-daisies. you're going to do coke off my dick. It's kind of like, hey, Bobo's. No, no, no. Totally open without me. I get it. My name attached to it. Doom from the start. Don't even do it. 90 days later, here come Batali. You know, these Porcinis just came in. I think I might, you know, get behind the line. Is that cool with you guys?

20:25The Porcinis just came in. God damn it. Well, did we talk about the Jimmy Kimmel stuff? I don't think we really did.

20:33Jason Stewart:Not really, no. I mean, just in the privacy of our own text messages, but not publicly now. So what do you think is going on? Because I think it's more of a business move. His contract was up in 26. 129 ,000 people were watching that show per night. And I don't think they thought about the consequences, how bad it would look. but I think they took the out the way that like people during COVID would just get fired no matter what because they had an out it feels like that when the FCC threatened look we're we're South Park reruns getting more definitely ratings than our podcast was getting role model and Olivia Wilde on Kimmel yeah sure definitely okay well actually something interesting um somebody sent me a message yesterday saying the fact that you guys called yeah Jimmy Kimmel being pulled in July was crazy and I said do you remember what we said because I don't and he said you guys said Jimmy Kimmel was next this was after um Colbert in July he said you guys said Jimmy Kimmel was next because he's a crier and he's similar to Colbert in that they are both bleeding hearts and then how expensive the shows are and because Seth Meyers is able to be like quote oh all this is going on I'm not going there.

21:56Jason Stewart:Fallon and Myers are going to be the ones left because they don't get the, they don't get in the weeds with this kind of political stuff the way Kimmel and Colbert do. We did it again. I mean, I think that is probably true. I mean, I don't think what he said was particularly offensive or, or I mean, it might've been a little bit wrong, like as far as factually, but yeah, who gives a shit? Yeah. I think, I think more or less what he said, I don't think it was a bad joke where he's talking about the, the fourth stage of grief construction. Like that's a, that's a good and fine joke and i agree that he was they're using any excuse they can the right the the far right to paint this person as a crazy trans antifa person um when it's just a a dude whose dad was a cop and was probably i mean we don't know if he was maga whatever literally just literally just to do if everyone is allowed to throw the word antifa around then you know i think kimball can throw the word mauga around a little bit it's got as much and as little venom to it as you really want it to have i think it'll hurt oh you know overall it'll hurt the network because kimball is so much of a personality there it's not just the show he hosts other things and Well, here's what I'm worried about, Jason, and not to make it about me, but he was the executive producer of the Love Thy Nader.

23:22And I – look, he can – That's a Kimmel joint. His show can go away. It's all good. But Nader is on the ascent. That little tennis slut, we need to keep her on the air at any cost, whatever it takes. Call Bob Iger.

23:37Jason Stewart:Okay, so Kimmel is to Batali as Bobbo is to Nader is what you're saying. Yes, exactly. We can't let, you know, the show must go on in Naderville. We can't let Steven Starr take over Love Thy Nader. It would be tough. Okay, so this does hit close to home, and I do see why you want to bring it up now. I think, you know, I forgot. I think it was, like I was saying before in the chat, unfortunately, an Andrew Schultz reference, reference but he was saying as a comedian this was the first time you know like trump being not even this not even the first time trump was elected but the second term it was the first time in the history of comedy where people did not make fun of the president whether you know whatever side you were on you know kimmel leno letterman fallon every host from from the beginning of time whoever it is yeah you make fun of the president it's just what you do that's part of what those shows and snl especially like that's what they do and now half the comedians will either try to a very obtuse way how to make fun of him you know by doing impressions of him and saying oh he's he's the goat and he rocks kind of thing but you know ignoring the negative parts about it and choosing not to find jokes and humor in that part of it um but i was i was thinking you know this is a bad thing overall for sure but i think the real kind of nail in the coffin is when somebody like um like a gut felt gets a major network i mean they can't you know like once he gets replaced by a gut felt my feeling is that that these networks want out of the late night business desperately because it's loses so much money and no one cares anymore they're locked into these giant contracts and there's a merger in this case there's a merger that's going on that would be blocked it's it's basically like all business and they don't care what it takes to get the business done you know what i'm saying they don't care how it looks they don't care who they piss off it doesn't matter it's always about money and that's what this is about and it sets a crazy precedent but it also gets them to where they want to go financially so they don't really give a shit yeah i mean i think that is a very convenient part of it and it's a real one-two punch to kind of have it all make sense because yeah nobody watches late night television anymore It's just not the way we consume content.

26:07Jason Stewart:And they get paid a lot of money. And they have a huge staff to get it all done. And it's a North Star of the network. These people become the unofficial CEO publicly facing of this giant network. Yeah, you see them every day. Yeah, you see them every single day. So Kimmel is just the company man. He's the Don Draper of ABC, whether he likes it or not. Yeah. And I think you have to figure out how that whole structure gets rejiggered because you're going to have to figure out a way to do it without having that. Once again, let's just recommend Drewski for the job. Whatever the job is, whichever person gets fired, I'm going to recommend Drewski.

26:53Jason Stewart:Well, I think obviously that is a great idea and that'll just work regardless of anything. But I mean, the whole late night talk show as a whole, you know, has to be either restructured or just straight up removed and then allocate all of those resources elsewhere. for the amount of money whatever Kimmel was getting paid what a 20 million a year and a staff of 180 it's costing a lot of money to make this show that gets the same amount of ratings as you know Gordon Ramsay Kitchen Nightmare reruns you can make 10 shows you can make 10 more NCIS's and 10 more if you go it's also a show about firemen called fire Also, you can go on Subway takes.

27:46You can talk to Isaac. You can do, there's so many things you can do that get more eyeballs and require sort of less effort in some ways. And I mean, obviously, I don't even, I like late, I mean, we grew up with it. So I do like it to some extent. And I don't, you know, if a clip comes on, I'm going to watch it. It's all good. But I do think that there's sort of -

28:07Jason Stewart:But when's the last time you watched it live? I mean, I get, oh, I've never, oh, years. I mean, I still think it matters for a band. I think it's cool when you get to play these shows. I think it's like a rite of passage and something that was a big – When I was in the music business, it was a really big deal when Cartel played Kimmel. You know what I mean? It was like a big – Of course, of course. It was like, oh, this is sick. This is so cool. And it's still a big deal to play Kimmel. Less so, I would say, that more people watch it in smaller and smaller groups. We got beach fossils on there one day or whatever.

28:40Jason Stewart:like it loses a little bit of sting no shade they're a great band um but you know not on the same scale as a late night band that we would watch when we're kids you know i i think it just needs to be restructured and moved around and just take that you know it's it's 2025 we we consume television differently here's the and that's it here's the problem though they're gonna if it either has to die because i think it should just die because a restructure is going to be similar to what they're doing snl where they just fill it up with tiktokers and like creators you know which is like which is obviously will probably work financially but it's sort of like this has a kind of legacy but i guess that no one really cares about that at the end of the day yeah again it's about money well they could take that all that you know the let's say it's a billion dollars annually that they're spending on all this stuff at the end of the day with advertising and insurance and dental whatever there's two forms of content that are working one of them is cheap one of them is more expensive and just double down on that like take that money and it's long form you know it's your black rabbits types of shows and your you know your your larger tales that hopefully will turn into a game of thrones franchise that'll just you know make you money forever and ever and going to syndication or you know daily chat shows where it's just you know four funny people Drewski and you know it could be a Seth Meyers and a Drewski and an Amy Poehler and you know all of these people but just set them on a couch four cameras and just let them go we have that and then you know another show where it's just top of the pop called the Joe Budden podcast we already have that but I see what you're saying do make five Joe Budden podcasts I mean I do think people talking every day that's what you want to hear you want to hear funny people who are good at talking talking about all this stuff not an actor that you've never heard of before saying like oh what you know how many pull-ups can you do and what's your favorite candy it's it's i mean it's crazy though this shit is crazy people are losing their fucking minds like this is like i haven't seen people lose their minds about something in a long time i mean it's it's obviously crazy like overall but i feel like this is really like ignited something in people and it's not because they like jimmy kimmel you know he's he's merely the like the sort of face of something yeah i i think it's because most people now are podcasters and make their living off of talking yeah yeah and you know if if one of the biggest people or if not the biggest person can get just straight up removed by the government then what does that mean about you and i who are saying potentially much more offensive things yeah i mean i i think that's part of it but i think people i think that like uh what free speech you know quote unquote means and what it's what it's sort of meant in the last five years ten years is very different than what it actually means and i think this is something so like clearly scary as far as like oh these motherfuckers can do whatever they want kind of vibe i think people do not like that i think they like it until it's very real is what i'm trying to say especially i mean it was it was like i said first term trump he would make all these wild claims and then four years later you're like oh he ended up not doing anything he just played golf like every other president he didn't build a wall he didn't cancel all this other shit it's just whatever he just hung out and uh kicked it with jeffrey and then second term he's actually doing he's saying like oh you know all these late night hosts talking bad about me we're gonna do something about them we're gonna get them out of here and everyone's like okay donald and now he's finally like okay you're gone refound you know it's like a jujitsu that you've just been waiting and waiting for somebody to move and give you the end give you their you know get a of an opportunity and you just you just poke an eye out and and Kimmel gone um you know I would be fine if they replaced him with somebody that was a little more um right-leaning I think that would be some actual equality but I think it's only fair if a Gutfeld or somebody like that goes in there as long as they also make fun of their own and they also joke around about Trump the way Kimmel would make jokes about Biden and beyond you know it's like you nobody trusts anything that you say if you're not saying bad things about your own as well it's just I agree I mean that's not gonna happen I think they would rather I just don't know if like I just wonder how far they'll take it like getting rid of a guy that's costing you too much money his contract is almost up and looking bad is one thing but hiring Gutfeld is like a very different thing like that's diabolical yeah because but i mean how you know how how crazy is it because i think he gets similar ratings to these people on a cable network you know what i mean like totally but this is i mean people watch fox news more than any other network it seems outside of no total fire and and police show no totally no you're right you're right and sports so it's not it's not crazy i mean it's not out of the question it's not crazy i don't think i don't think anything's out of the question that's the scary thing they'll be able to save all that money not having to pay kimmel and and the staff for all of that and they could just dump that into you know tick tocky stuff but um i think it'll end up hurting potentially hurting the network because that sends a message that this is no longer the the dream that anyone is shooting for this is no longer the goal like working in government used to be something that people wanted to do and it was a noble cause no and now nobody would nobody wants to work for the government unless you're you know a conservative yeah right winger i mean fascist kind of person no one wants to do anything but be a creator that's the that's that's the real so now well i mean so now the goal of like hey you know the best you know i'm to be a letterman or whatever like nobody wants to be a big star on a big network anymore because they're afraid of being getting fired or canceled so all that is just going to send every creative person musician actor podcast or whatever onto their own quote-unquote pirate ships and i'm going to do it myself where i can control everything make my own money from however i want to choose my own sponsors say whatever i want to without fear of being canceled i think that's already i think that's i think that's been happening for years that's that's already happening but this is just another nail in the coffin of like who gives like who would ever want to do that anymore and now if that becomes something that is stupid and everyone nobody wants to do anymore nobody's gonna watch it anymore it's just everything is defragmented and now we don't have a use for abc anymore so i mean that's real that's real i don't have a use for it for sure i mean i didn't i didn't cancel my disney plus subscription because i don't have one because i'm a real one see all you motherfuckers had to cancel it you're part of the problem yeah it's it's it's just you know it's the it's the it's the rails now it's not the trains you do we netflix is just gonna buy whatever they want that's gonna that's gonna be shows that people want to watch like hey you guys like watching hunting wives we're gonna do another season and we can no problem showed we can show titty and drugs and say whatever the fuck we want and nobody cares like why would you ever want to go and also there's no commercials i like commercials but i see and now every rich tech person is like oh wouldn't it be cool if there was like hunting wives but about my life and then everyone's like no and he's like well i'm gonna pay for it anyway could we do hunting wives silicon con valley do you think that would work coding wives coding wives the coding wives all right this is i want to do coding wives and they're like that sounds bad and he's like i'm gonna keep drawing zeros on this check and you tell me when uh when angelina jolie and timberlake are are ready to come over and and shoot this my wife wants to be an actress so we're doing this thing um absolutely not actually i will do it in better news um friend of the show john summit

37:15i don't know if you saw what he was doing over the weekend when they can't afford diplo with lululemon this is a lululemon john summit you think john summits ever run a mile in his life

37:27Jason Stewart:no shots at the goat yeah yeah he's i think he's an athlete oh is he okay okay okay i didn't know he's a reform like he used i think like a few years ago he was like doing whippets and like having sex with people and you know doing whatever and i think now he's cleaned up his act and he's okay he's in run clubs and he's my question is my question is how far can this go like how how much how much more popular can running get because it's already to me it's already the run club thing has already been clowned like three times and keeps coming back to like a new i just it's crazy that It keeps finding, obviously, the more people exercise, the better.

38:11Like I completely back that. But needing to exercise with 50 people is crazy. And I don't understand. You need to get it together. Like talk about willpower.

38:22Jason Stewart:Well, Chris, you and I famously are, you know, don't speak highly of community with a capital C. It seems, you know, in our generation and older, it's something that you just do. It's not something that you think about and talk about and consider and make presentations about. It's just something that happens subconsciously. With like-minded people with shared interests. You don't have to force it. So I think nowadays there are lots of people out there. Many of them listen to podcasts and develop a great parasocial relationship that we love. Just check out Quince and all that other stuff. but there's a lot of people out there who don't have a community and you want to get one that is hopefully healthy it's not a it's people are trying it's it's people it's young people with jobs trying to get laid after college that's what a run club is actually that's what my love of music is too it doesn't matter you know i i think you're our bff scott galloway says everything is just rooted in in mating at the end of the day i i agree i agree with some of that to an extent but I think that it's just like it's gotten it reaches such a tipping point where it becomes let these runners fuck it's crazy to me though this is where we're at do you think they shower before they fuck?

39:46get that run head? I think it's more the run head ain't happening I think it's more I think it's more Austin based creatives like having flat whites and a donut after doing 10 miles and then maybe they'll link up for oysters

40:02Jason Stewart:later that week instead of instead of getting some head we're gonna take pictures of my dog with different bandanas on that's that's um that's exactly what they're doing that's what it is maybe your beef could be boiled down to the act of running is not niche enough to form a community around there's nothing to grab on to it's like i don't even you're staying collecting you're into model trains you're into crossfit or whatever but just the act of running it's such such a baked in just like community it's something that should happen just naturally it's the most democratic form of exercise it's a beautiful thing and it i i think it's very important to human existence i don't need to do it with a hundred guys that drive new jeep wagoneers and drink coffee out of a yeti like i don't need that like i don't need but what about the goth run club chris it's so ubiquitous now and there's a there's a subsect of the running clubs now no of course and that's look do whatever you want as long as you're exercising i'm behind it i'm just is there a goth sauna i'm just saying i'm just saying that the that it's it's reached a point where i i it's kind of unbelievable to me actually how popular it's gotten what do you think the dark side reasonings could be is this is this to move more vests is this big vest it's big vest it's definitely like i mean i i think the most popular ones are probably organized by brands which as a brand of course you should be doing like of course you should do this you know it's like a great way to to make money and and create you know a wrapped audience i i respect it from all business sides i guess i'm just shocked at how popular it's gotten that it's been like mocked and and comes back and it just it's it's you can't no left hook is going to take down the run club yeah i guess is what i'm saying pickleball you know it gets knocked down and gets up again it only gets bigger it's only it only gets bigger running is much cooler than that but i i see the parallel yes is this from the minds of big goo is it the insole industry the insole union is going i don't know what it is it's the insole union i mean from a brand standpoint it's uh you i if i owned lululemon i'd be like are you kidding me all we have to do is like buy uh like a six by six tent that has our logo on it and then like you know give out like stickers and then we'll get a thousand people to yeah totally all show up wearing our clothes and run around and we get free content no i'm saying i'm saying from a business standpoint it's genius you don't have to buy easy and cheap anything you don't have to rent anything it's just on the street it's something it's something i mean i saw that harry harry styles ran the berlin marathon today or yesterday and i think that also i think all these celebrities sort of you know harry styles and the tracks myth and the and the district vision and you know he like looks cool and it's sexy i i get that part of it but he's running a marathon he's not running with 100 people it's just him and his bodyguard out there yeah i guess when you think when you think about exercise that type of thing a lot of people do it to get away to get silence to get peace and calm and meditation many people run and fish and mountain climb and all this stuff solo because that's when you get to have your meditative time you know doing it with 300 other people who work in marketing well that's what i'm saying when i was with when i was with the satisfied team and those guys were like oh yeah i mean i don't listen to music that's crazy i thought that was extreme like imagine having to make conversation with uh a junior marketing associate who just got her first pair of hokas while you're on mile six and you have to slow down because you're trying to hit.

43:50Yeah, that's the other thing. Your mile time, your pace is going down if you're trying to hit. That's the other thing because you're not focused on the goal. You're supposed to be there to run, and if you're trying to spit game while you're running, you're in zone two. Maybe that's what you're going for, maybe not.

44:05Jason Stewart:Okay, so yeah, if you're a runner in a run club with the expressed interest in having sex with somebody else, you're going to run exactly as fast as the person you want to fuck is running. But the problem is, what if both people are doing that, then we're not going to have any matches. So then all the run clubbers out there, the Lululemons, the John Summits, the Diplos, I'm sure Diplos kind of already in this headspace, but one of the two people, one of the two, there's two teams i'm gonna run you know i'm the chaser and the chasey it's true no that's a good and also while you want this pussy you're gonna have to do 5.17 miles we're doing 10k can you keep up can you keep up well while we're talking about running we should give a a shout out to front of the show lord for having a woodway treadmill on stage on this tour one of the most aspirational things i've ever seen is to have the the treadmill the best treadmill in the world the woodway had my wood on way god damn it um yeah but she um it's cool to see you know in in the world of tours and we know all these people who do stage designs and creative direction for all that stuff and production from small to high level it almost seems like all the ideas under the sun have been taken and used a zillion times it's cool to see some variation and our good friend Lord doing some interesting, cool, funny shit.

45:37Jason Stewart:Something new. Stripping, wet tea contest, all that stuff. Now that it's been leaked, can we talk about Young Lean covering the Stooges? I feel like that video's made the rounds, right? I've seen so many videos of it and I'm like, oh, I have the best video of it. My video of it's way better than all these ones. Well, I feel like that video could have been from like an Italian caterer. Yeah, possibly. or just somebody out there who you know whatever a cousin a cousin of a cousin there are two things there are two things at weddings i've seen in my life and that really put me on my ass one was a jonah hill speech that had me i couldn't believe what a difference it makes when a professional is up there it had everything the second was young lean doing the stooges it was unbelievable i couldn't believe how good it was i loved it it got me hyped i was crashing you know i was i was fading no espresso could save me strangely young lean saved me with with the stooges it blew my mind it was nice to see a shirtless lean getting into his rocker bag i think that his personal brand of of speech impediment and level of english speaking worked perfectly really really worked perfectly with the the cadence of the song and the spirit of the song you know because how do you do how do you out iggy on his own tune it's literally never been done but somebody like him he's like what if we made the fucking grilled cheese with blue cheese instead and everyone's like oh this is you just changed the game fam because he has obviously he has a swedish accent but he also talks in a very odd distinct kind of way yeah so hearing him say now I want to be your dog but with his like monotone Nordic flavor.

47:31Jason Stewart:It really worked. It really worked. It worked. And then also the backing band being so professional and just good at playing their instruments really also kind of helped nail it. I don't know if they got the perfect distortion on that guitar, but you know that piano sound of that, I guess it's one note. It's just, it's funny when you see something like that in a setting that you're not expecting, I guess. Oh, it was unexpected. Like when I go to, But when I go to a wedding, I'm never expecting to double over laughing at a speech because they're always bad. So when Jonah Hill gives one that is like Oscar worthy, I can't believe it.

48:05This is the same. When I go to a wedding, even a wedding like this where there's a lot of talent in the room, I'm not expecting that. I'm expecting something, but I'm not expecting that. It's still a surprise.

48:16Jason Stewart:Yeah, you're like, oh my God, them jeans DJ said after the cake cutting, this is going to be a good night. Oh, I didn't want to cry. I didn't want to cry but I guess I'm going to yeah actually a wedding that I DJed last year this big house in Silver Lake I ran into the bride at McCall's yesterday and we were talking about how that location, it's this huge house in Silver Lake at the top of the hill and it's always been like on and off the market for tens of millions whatever but they're gonna do a Noma pop up there I think sometime next year which is a cool and smart idea to not do it on like a regular restaurant storefront but to take over a grand property that is no it's really nice i know the place you're talking about i've never been there you know the place bro you know the fucking place um but yeah i would say that was that was my second favorite but um maddie healy doing perfect day lou reed that was maddie's dad right yeah yeah yeah he comes out and he he comes out and does a song with the 1975 on stage and stuff sometimes okay so maddie maddie and his dad doing perfect day slow first dance song what a great tune unexpected tune for the first dance because it has such a somber feel to it somber spelled with all the vowels of course um yeah oh no chris wrote a great gq weed pulling i think every year chris writes a story about how going to Europe during the summer for vacation is overrated, and every year he gets better and better at it.

50:00Jason Stewart:Thank you. So I think next year, year after that, we're entering Pulitzer territory. Well, the real goal is maybe to never go to Europe for vacation in the summer. I think that's the real win of the whole game. Okay, well, let's get bullish on it. Let's do the polymarket. What is the new Europe? I mean— Is it Asia? is it south america it's california bro that's what i'm saying to you after we did that trip in california and it was so relaxing gavin newsom's california and so beautiful and there was no headaches and i was like yeah this is i mean look this trip to your strong 5g here i'm still i'm still i've been here for fucking two weeks it's all good i have to come back in a month you know it's fine and i like it but during the summer like even here on on the island of silt the people that work here are like oh in July it's fucking crazy like you couldn't even imagine how busy it is it's a different place I'm like yeah I would rather be here right now even though I can't lay in the sun I'm still getting all the other benefits I can lay in the sun by a pool at a hotel anywhere so much like late night television and network television we don't really need to vacation in the summer anymore when we can do it whenever we want.

51:18Jason Stewart:Nobody has a job where they get time off in the summer and everyone's kid is in a weird different school. I guess if you have four kids at Wagon Wheel, you're probably not going to go to Sicily for two weeks. Anyway, so we can just go wherever we want at any time of the year and spread it all out so it's not all just one two-month period. That's the only point I was trying to make. It wasn't even just the usual sort of run-of-the-mill Italy shade or Europe shade. It was strictly about why are we so tethered to this when the world has shifted so much as far as what you're saying, like what our actual responsibilities and when those take place are.

52:04Jason Stewart:Well, I think now that we're becoming more of an authoritarian government and we're years away from becoming a member of the Chinese-Russian regime, let's just start. Let's make China the new Palermo. I love that. They really have that laid-back lifestyle there that just really, it's so similar to the Italians. I always say that. health care free health great food you know great food some say chinese cookery is the is the basically the jesus and the moses of all the great now that you're culinary arts now that you're bringing this up i think maybe some asian flavors or maybe some uh middle eastern flavors would what is really what my palate is is craving for a tickle okay okay you know like oh man i'm just now now i shouldn't have said it now i'm getting hungry okay so you need you need some curry in a hurry you want some sag paneer well in you want some i believe in berlin there's if i remember correctly there's very good vietnamese food because there's a big vietnamese population there so i could actually get what i'm saying i've i've i've i've definitely been to some delicious vietnamese restaurants there is there something specific that you're really tripling down i don't give a fuck spring roll way spring roll bro's chinese pancake you know i'll take whatever you want a cornucopia of textures flavors crunches i want some herbaceousness oh yeah can you imagine oh man i can't even imagine this is it's so bad i would i would put hot honey in a drink that's where we're at right now that's that's where that's that's where at my my my english breakfast is getting a little teaspoon of hot honey um yeah i'm gonna regret that teaspoon tomorrow okay that one goes straight to the hips i was yesterday we were at the store getting groceries and I discovered a recession indicator I didn't think I was going to get.

54:03Here we go.

54:05Jason Stewart:Got the Harmless Harvest crystal clear. Oh shit. No pink? Not a hue of pink to it. It looked more clear than water itself. That's correct. How'd it taste? It tastes the same but at this point the Harmless Harvest coconut, for our listeners who don't know what we're talking about, it's it's expensive bro we don't have any listeners that don't know what we're talking about but that's nice of you look all of our uruguayan listeners and our chinese listeners maybe they don't have the harmless harvest there but it's it's a high-end expensive coconut water that is delicious oftentimes it'll be a pinkish color which they used to have to say this is you know natural it doesn't mean it's fucked up or gross you know maybe it's good luck and now that deformity and unique characteristic of the harvest it has to be pink or else there's no really discerning difference right i mean that is true i need that paint i mean i love the toothiness of the getting that nice pulp going i get the one with pulp now if i get oh yeah it's nice i'm you want a little cocoa you can chew on it's weird i never used to be into pulp um not the band of course we love them but i mean in orange juice or other beverages but now maturity bro maturity looks good on you brother you're growing up the growth is growth is crazy bro so i'm okay so we're gonna be in austin yeah a couple yeah a couple announcements next week we're gonna be next weekend levitation festival we're gonna be in conversation at the festival both days of the weekend it's a friday and saturday talking to the armed and unknown mortal orchestra i think it'll be around like five or six in one of the smaller tents come to the festival really cool lineup lots of great you know indie rock alternative stuff from the 90s current and crazy metal acts as well and then friday night djing with dj python who's actually going to be in town right before in a couple days gonna get some din with him probably and work out what we're gonna do you know music wise do you have any requests are we going B2B I think what we'll do is you know it'll be segregated at first and then as the night matures then we'll you know two snakes will intertwine eventually after you've had after you've had a 12 pack of Lone Star all of a sudden you're going back to back with our boy.

56:41I'm excited.

56:42Jason Stewart:Once all 12 of my Shiner Box are upside down in the crate. For some reason, I'm looking forward to going to Austin. Maybe it's because I've been in Europe for so long that I need a dose of America, but I'm going to be in New York for one day. I'm dying to take a three-hour flight so badly. Oh, yeah. It's the best.
